Purchased my son an amazing acoustic guitar for his 21st
Loved every minute we spent in the shop and my boy now has an amazing hand crafted Singing Wood work of art.
Highly recommended

Walking into this place is taking a step into a time when people cared about what they were selling. First experience five years ago Bill, the owner, sat me down talked guitars, had me play a few then suggested one for me. It was great and perfect for the time. Flash forward, I'm clearer about what I want and Bill helped me fulfil that vision. Worth visiting for the integrity and the history on the walls.

An Auckland institution run by an absolute gent.
Bill sold me my Rickenbacker 4100 sometime way back around 1990 and it was the start of a wild and beautiful journey.
So good to meet Bill again after almost 30 years and to see Bungalow Bills is still part of upper Symonds street.
Rock TF on!

I had a very good buying experience from Bill's Music Shop recently. It was my first time to meet Bill but it seems like we were friends for so long. He is a friendly man. No matter how many questions you asked for about things related to his products, he is more than willing to answer you. If you are looking for vintage guitars or not old ones, don't hesitate to visit his shop. Excellent instruments with reasonable prices too.

Met Bill the legendary store owner today and it was just so much fun chilling in the shop, looking at the beautiful guitars and sifting through vintage vinyl records. The store is straight up gorgeous.
I'm naturally introverted but I felt like I could speak to Bill forever and not feel the need to crawl back into my shell. He's the epitome of being larger than life and his love for life in general is definitely infectious.
While my friend was trying out the guitars, I got to speak to Bill and it was just so nice to hear him talk about his beautiful family, life experiences and his recording studio. Overall an amazing experience. 16/10 would recommend if you need some good secondhand instruments or if you just want to chill with Bill, or both cause' why not?
Also, blessed birthday, Bill! :)

Great shop for second hand guitars and other bits and pieces. Bill is a delightful man who brings a wealth of knowledge in music and has a great ear for a riff!
I’ll be there again sometime real soon!

Bill is the best! Stumbled across this place on my way home from work today and popped in in a super impulsive mood. He wasn't pushy at all and really knew his stuff. Places like this are such a rarity these days. Will definitely be back!

I loved going to Bill's shop. He was so welcoming, knowledgable and fun. When my bass guitar arrived he took the time to talk me through everything I need to know. I would 100% recommend Bill to anyone looking for anything musical.

Guitar shop with a soul! I've had so many great finds and even more great conversations here.

What an awesome shop, very glad I came in! Bill is really welcoming and willing to share his knowledge and has a really interesting range of instruments. I thoroughly enjoyed my guitar-buying experience and I will be back :)

love this shop so much! got my dream guitar yesterday, Bill is passionate about what he does and so welcoming, he spent about an hour getting to know me as a musician and helping me choose the perfect guitar. every instrument was beautiful and had its own story, I would reccomend this place to any aspiring musicians, bungalow bills is a magical place!

Fantastic shop. Feels sooo good to talk to a music lover first and the salesman second. Bill is not after the quick buck but wants you to be happy and all equipped to make your own music. A safe haven in the rough sea of chain stores and online speed traders. Keep rockin‘ Bill!
Charlie, Sue and Matt from Germany.
P.S. There is a lot of guitar playing in our camper van now :-)

Over the last few years I have bought a lot of gear from Bill, ranging from strings and picks to guitars, pedals and amplifiers. All of which I have been greatly pleased with.
Bill's extensive knowledge and his efforts to pair musicians with the right gear for their needs and budget has been greatly appreciated by myself. His customer service is top notch and second to none.
As such I recommend him, and his store, to musicians of all playing levels and budgets.

I have been buying gear from Bungalow bills for nearly 30 years, the service is awesome, the gear is always top quality and if its not in the shop Bill will try and get it for you anyway. Bungalow Bill's is more than just a music shop, its a NZ music Icon, the walls and photo's on them tell stories of the many national and international musicians that have been in the store, from Hank Marvin to Neil Finn and many more. I would not go anywhere else, its a little touch of NZ Music History still alive in Auckland and if your a musician then you owe it to yourself to go and check the place out, sterile it is NOT... Rock n Roll ? it sure as hell is. !!!!!

Bungalow Bill's is the consummate independent music shop - think Manny's on a small scale. Star crossed, heaps of history, fab inventory & prices not to mention Bill's wicked sense of humour. There's always an element of surprise in his shop too - you never know who or what will walk thru the door…
Whether you're after a set of strings or a vintage piece of NZ history, a visit to Bungalow Bill's will prove refreshing & fun in this age of corporate cookie-cutter clutter.
Highly recommended!

I was looking for a second hand acoustic and found Bills on the internet. I went to the shop and it was incredible, it felt like the guitar shop that Johnny Cash walks into, in Walk the Line and Bill also showed me how all of his guitars were in tune on the walls. Worth a visit, even if you don't end up buying something, but I walked out with a neat vintage Aria.

Had the absolute best experience at bungalow bills! I went in as a total beginner, traded in an old guitar for a new one. Bill is seriously knowledgable and helpful, without being pushy in the slightest. Highly highly recommend bungalow bills to any guitarist no matter what you're after

I bought my first guitar and many other things at Bungalow Bills. This is by far the best place to purchase music equipment in NZ. Bill will help with advise and a quick story or two. You will be made to feel welcome and comfortable in a relaxed and bullshit free environment. Give them a go and release that inner rock star.

Bungalow Bill's is a great place to visit and has a bunch of interesting stuff on display. He's normally helpful and informative and has a whole lifetime of recording experiences, anecdotes and opinions about an enormous range of guitar players and musicians, both local and passing through. Check the photo wall. Ask dumb questions, he seems to love that.
This is not a megastore experience, just good, old fashioned, individual service......... and he also sells stuff !
He has always suported Ganz ( NZ Guitar Association ) members.

For me, a city’s greatness is not measured by its street lit glamour or the size and girth of its most phallic tower. Nor is it the tacky muffin break stink of malls or the soft lit purr of up-market high street boutiques.
The especially great things about a city are often small and usually involve special people. Characters defiantly doing their own thing with little fanfare or flimflam, largely unsung and un-noticed by the masses yet embodying the very damn thing that the city planners strive in vain to manufacture.
They are found in the cities nooks and crannies, down alleys and back streets, a tip from a friend, serendipitous discoveries made in passing, unexpected pots of gold at the end of an urban rainbow.
Bungalow Bill’s Music Shop is one such pot of gold. Bill Lattimer is one of those special people. Both are gems all Aucklanders should be very proud of!
