They tried hard but unless you like under cooked meat or over cooked fish give it a miss. Have to say they were open to honest criticism. Friendly helpful staff though. Will try again once

Highly recommend Essex Arms for Accommodation and meals. We were treated to some fantastic meals served from the kitchen here that were fresh, delicious and hearty for the winter. The staff were always friendly and as we got to the Venue quite late they were very accommodating. Rooms were quaint, had what we needed, very clean and tidy. Booked for a second and third time for trips to the Waikato area.

Delicious 3 Course Meal for $35. Love the food! Especially the Warm Brownies with Ice Cream and Whipped Cream, sorry I didn't take a photo of the desert, my sisters were in a hurry 🤣. Next time I'll add more photo to this review.

Have been here previously (almost 2 years ago), and waited far too long for the meals to be served. Went there again this evening and was very happy with the quality and quick service. Much better than last time. Will be back again because the $35 3 course meal is special and the food is dangerously good!

The meals are actually quite not that bad. The steak was actually huge (camera skills were not on) The bar and gaming side is OK too.

Visited the restsurant, lunch menu has a variety to choose @$15 it's worth stopping in. The service was great and food was fantastic. Our table had a variety of dishes and throughly enjoyed the lunch..if you like chicken and cambert cheese or the pork belly ...are my "go too" and recommendation!

It's useful to make a reservation and put your order in in advance. Nice place to take children and the fare was excellent too. Our waiter was friendly as, our food was delicious and at $35 for three-course meal with a huge variety of entrée, mains and desserts to choose from, it was Devine.

A decent 3 course meal for $40?! In Huntly?! The boy had the lamb main and I had the steak. Both perfectly cooked and delicious. The staff were so lovely and incredibly accommodating, allowing us to order late. The Essex is a nice quiet place to dine with surprisingly good food. Go there.

Had a 3 coarse meal for $35 any entree, main and dessert off the menu really descent meal size nice clean ambient environment really enjoyed the meal my husband has a good appetite he was full had buffalo wings, steak meal, lamb shanks and pavlova and sundae...really yummy...

Ended up here by pure chance. Absolutely 0 complaints. The showers are worth the price of the room all by themselves and the staff are frickin rockstars who really went above and beyond (you know who you are😁). It's the little things that really count 🤗 (btw I think the fridge in my room is on it's way out lol it's making some very strange noises)
