Wonderfully safe beach, perfect for kids and older folk. Dogs aren't allowed. Awesome activity if a big ship is being pushed by tug boats. For the first time ever I saw people surfing there after the last big storm. Go for a walk slong the Lee breakwater too, just down the road. There's Catch and Co takeaways down there and Gusto restaurant, an excellent place to dine in. During business hours there's White Sails craft shop and Chaddys Bar and Cafe where you can get a good pizza and eat while looking out over the breakwater and fishing boats. You can fish off the breakwater.

Great place for kids amazing playground the beach is awesome and sheltered so the waves are gentle and little ones. There is a shower and changing room. There is a grass area with benches and there is a sand area for amazing sand castle and picnic play.

Great beach shelter by a sea wall this little harbor beach is a great spot for a swimming and a picnic there is shade public changing and restrooms 🚻 picnic tables spaced out along the beach front 😀

Hard to beat on a sunny day, this is a little gem hidden away by the port, but definitely designed for kids, both big and small.. toilet facilities available, decent sized bins to help them not to be overflowing in summer, and our famous black sand beach to splash around in the surf, look for shells or just sit on a bench or picnic table and take in the sea air..something for everyone, just don't forget a coat or jumper in case the sun goes in, the wind can be bitterly cold on occasion here!! Oh, and don't forget to get your ice cream from the van down here too, lockdown hasn't been kind to these sorts of vendors so it's great to see them back and selling the obligatory ice cream on a seaside trip..lets keep them in business this summer..

Ngamotu Beach is beautiful place. To watch the ship come into Port Taranaki in New Plymouth. I when to Ngamotu Beach last night. To say goodbye to some great 4 people's died on the way back from Wellington to New Plymouth .And God bless the family's and friends. Of these great people's .

Last beach on coastal walkway going south. Ngamotu as the names suggest looks out on islands. It provided kaimoana (seafood) and was a settlement for Maori. In 1841 the first settled from Southern England arrived here. Later oil was found right on the beach. Today with the breakwater in front it provides calm water for wind surfers and swimmers. It has less surf than other beaches. There is a port to the south and lots of information signs. Food is not available . Lots of shade and car parking.

Nice beach next to Port Taranaki. If you go for a walk along the beach take a bag. Lots of rubbish coming out of the storm water drains that feed onto the beach.

Awesome family beach,kids have so much fun playing in the little waves,an enclosed beach next to the port.You will often see jetskis,sailing boats,Waka ama,volleyball nets up and so much more.No shops there,but further down their are restaurants.toilets and recycling bins available..on hot days mr whippy shows up!!

Had lots of whanau fun time when my kids were small at Ngamotu beach. A safe beach for swimming for the kids, lovely setting with picnic tables and seating all around. Spectacular view of the wharf as well. You can walk, bike, jog on the beautiful foreshore to Ngamotu beach, enduring all the sea views.

Fairly nice beach, a lot of seaweed in the water and ashore. The beach ist surrounded by industrial areas and the fishing harbour. It's got shower and is quite sheltered which is nice.

Tide was rough but once you got further than the waves beak the sea was calm. Absolutely beautiful. Only one suggestion was they people should be more in control of their dogs,Thier meant to be under control with a lead.

On a rough windy, rainy day watching ships leave harbour because it's too rough at port makes an interesting few hours. It amazes me how those small tugs push/pull those massive ships in and out and remain unscathed. Well done wharvies on such a blustering day.

Ngamotu beach is only small but it's a good one to take the family. No dogs are allowed there the whole year round. It's next to the port so sometimes you see the big tankers. There's a boat club, so there's plenty of sailing done. Toilets are there, there is a grass bank you can have a picnic, play games & it's relatively safe to swim. You can walk down to the wharf if you want, where Chaddys charters are, they take a ride in an old lifeboat to the marina, where you see seals & maybe catch a fish. Very enjoyable for the whole family. At Ngamotu, there's also a market, not sure if it's 1 or 2 x a month but there's plenty to see & buy, some really lovely stuff. Including refreshments with tables & chairs set out. Plenty of parking.

I love this beach. I always come here with my kids. Perfect beach experience without the pummeling by waves you get at other beaches. The depth is great for new swimmers too as it very slowly gets deeper. I could just live here!😀

Love this beach. It's close to home and is a great beach for swimming. Little to no waves which makes it perfect for families and smaller children. Good playground and picnic facilities, with drinking water fountains, outdoor showers and toilet blocks available. Wheel chair access is available to the beach.

Oh my gosh beautiful! Went snorkeling down here today on the right side next to the rocks and wow there was so many fish and all sorts of creatures. The only reason I can think of why I wouldn't give this incredible place a 5 Star is because of how cold and litter filled this place was. Gonna go down another day and try to pick as much of it up as possible. Overall a wonderful place and I would recommend everyone goes down there.

I simply LOVE this beach. The water is mostly calm, it is very safe for kids to bath in and there is plenty of free parking. The beach has an outdoor shower for rinsing off. There are public toilets and changing room, also a kids playground and plenty of grass space and Pohutukawa trees. I often see large families getting together for supper.

This is a great beach for the kids and the new playgraound is great with a bit of everything in the middle of a bright, sunny field. The beach is wide and flat and there are no waves to knock the kids over. Beach volleyball is often here and there is a good grassy area to throw a ball around on. Nice new toilets and an outdoor shower to clean off on the way home. Mr Whippy and other food trucks are also often there.

Sheltered beach inside Port Taranaki, good for swimming, has grassed area and shade trees. Parking is okay but can get crowded. Sand is soft so you may strughle to launch boats at the yacht club.

It's a beautiful spot with good beach facilities and access but a little too close to the port area to call it pristine. Fitzroy and Oakura also have better surf.

Ngamotu Beach is okay. It's not a beauty spot but being near the port, marina, various shops, industrial and historic sites, there is plenty to see.

Went down to Ngamotu to have fish & chips recently but was disappointed with the lack of tables available. The whole area needs a spruce up, including the drive down to the boat ramp where I saw rubbish everywhere - such a bad look for our city but sadly it's the case at many other public places. We ALL need to step up to keep Taranaki beautiful, as it's not just the Council's responsibility! 😔🚮🤔
