G.We were greeted by a very polite member of staff who showed to the outside area as we had two dogs with us. Swift efficient waiting staff brought us delicious food , freshly prepared with a smile and an (unnecessary) apology for the long wait which actually wasn't long at all!
Couldn't recommend this place highly enough.
Will.make a point of stopping in every time we are in the area.
P.Restaurant + Portside Restaurant attached to it is the best: amazing, lovely staff! Food-wise, Highly recommend the mussels and fettuccine!
Accommodation: The building and rooms are very dated but very clean - no bugs or smell at all. It's all shared bathroom for all rooms. The room we stayed in has a sink in the corner - very old school! The doors/windows don't feel too secure but nothing happened to our stuff so I guess it's ok!
Be aware that it is VERY LOUD because of the downstairs pub (it is like the music is right outside our door, no kidding!). It quieted down at 12.30 midnight. Car alarms and beer bottles being disposed woke us up at about 7AM.
It's very warm but they have a communal fan that they will let you borrow for the room.
Come with the right expectations from a very old building + great cleanliness and you won't be disappointed.
Looking forward to coming back to the restaurant - a great way to support local!
D.One of the nicest open steak sandwiches I have had, nice amount of hidden spice in the dressing to keep it interesting, service is good and pricing is appropriate. Thanks team enjoyed our visit.

J.Finally! A great place to eat. The new management is doing a fantastic job. Had the best omelette ever yesterday for my lunch. Have been here many times to eat and yesterday was by far the best. The kids and other adults I was with were very happy too. Thanks Kentish, I'm actually looking forward to coming back.

A.Took my sister on a date here last weekend. Very romantic place. Unfortunately my cousin showed up with my brother and she wasn't too happy to see me cheating on her but the well trained bar staff managed to calm her down.

D.This is for the restaurant only. Can't change my rating from two years ago. Went last week and it was all average. The mussels weren't very nice, the sauce they were in tasted good but was not thickened. The scallops were OK but nothing great about them. The mocha was like a slightly weakened cappuccino with chocolate sprinkled on top. The music was some kinda gangsta rap about money and p*ssies. Just read over my review and I am changing my rating from 3 stars to 1.

C.We were curious to see what this very traditional looking pub was like inside and enjoyed the experience. There is a lot of history on the walls inside and the meals are huge!

A.Hadn't stopped in at the Kentish for many years, but seems like it just could become a regular thing.
The atmosphere is terrific, relaxing in an enclosed veranda, clear roller blinds lifted far enough to cool yet provide shelter, makes for an enjoyable time with friends.
The service is what you should expect anywhere, friendly and helpful and the lunch menu has something for all.
A.The Kentish is a cute country pub. We had booked 10 rooms and the function room for our event. I particularly liked the how nothing was a problem with Gina, the manager, she was most helpful and the event went with out a hitch. The catering was really nice and the sit down dinner we had in the restaurant after was of a good size, tasty and there was a good variety of dishes on offer. The rooms, while the place is quite old, were comfortable and warm and it wasn't a problem sharing the bathroom as we travel for work a lot as a group and stay in a range of accommodation around the country all the time. Thanks for having us!
H.The place may have changed with the times over the years but its always a delight as you bump into friendly locals. Great place for a family occasion.
E.Loved the location, styling. Food was nice but one item, the ribs is very poor. Just boiled and horrible grey gravy. One of our party sent it back as inedible.
We where approached by a lady who said she was management, she turned out to be highly unprofessional and derogatory to one of our group regarding the bad food. Spoiling the whole dining experiance. A pity as we love Waiuku. But will look for other places to dine.
Would love to say this quaint character pub had character and Ambiance. But we don t go out to be abused.
F.Last night 5 adults dined at the Kentish and it was fabulous, from the best garlic bread to I don't know what you put in the sauce for the seafood medley but it was devine. Lamb chops cooked perfectly with the freshest of vegetables, and an amazing stuffed chicken so moist and flavourful. Then we had a waiter who had as much fun as we did without compromising service, and he was great with cheeky Nana. Thank you to the staff especially the chef you will be seeing us again.

W.I am a regular at this establishment, I love going there as the surroundings are wonderful and the staff are EXCEPTIONAL. I had a surprise 65th there recently and the food was amazing. The service from Jamie and her team of girls was nothing short of INCREDIBLE. keep it up guys, we need to support you all for the wonderful service you all provide to us in your incredible hotel. Murray has the restaurant buzzing along and with Jamie alongside him it cannot help but succeed. Well done guys you are all doing a WONDERFUL job.

H.Very old hotel with loads of old charm. We stayed 1 night up stairs and I was not disappointed. Yes it is old by other standards but that was part of the charm. The floors creaked here and there, the bathroom was just down the hallway, but it felt like I was experiencing something like that of the old days, so I really liked it.

S.Animals are predictable, Humans are not ! We tend to always complain when things go wrong but hardly ever say anything when things go right. Today I had a Fantastic Experience as I called in to order a meal for my wife and I. It took me back 12 years ago when I last visited here and had that same feeling, Excellent Food and especially the service. The young lady who served me was great and also the Bar Manageress who I seem to remember had a lovely smile and it was most welcoming .I know.... you have a JEWEL in the Chef, RICHARD, nothing was a problem The food was out of this world and If I had to employ somebody he would be the first on my list . A.Fantastic, loved the eggs benedict with bacon & my 2 year old loved the childrens pancakes. Good size portions, fast service.

S.This place is a GEM! Fantastic staff, beautiful food and some lovely (expertly recommended local wines!). When you walk in you see this proper local (cool but a little bit dank) pub... then walk out the other side and it's clean, open, restaurant space with fresh flowers and fantastic service.
J.Excellent service, greeted on arrival even when busy. Nice vibes here and a friendly atmosphere. Great music, new and old. I noticed it was very clean (even the restrooms) on a busy Saturday night so very pleased to have been there. Great experience and will come again.
X.The food is really nice. Generally a good option and handy location. One of the better options in this price range. Supportive staff can help you with just about anything and a positive atmosphere in general.

R.Did is good. Prices okayish. Some nights they try to squeeze punters in too close. Not so bad if you know your fellow dinners. Need to tighten the screws on some of the tables and chairs.
S.We stopped by on a Monday evening for dinner. The menu had a good range, the lamb salad and pork belly were great, the cannelloni looked like lasagne and the ribs were appalling. After advising the waitress she initially accepted the complaint but returned later to argue claiming "actually everything is perfect". On paying she tried to charge one of our party for my meal despite my standing there, clearly queuing at the till.
We'll probably go back because Waiuku is a nice destination for a midweek ride but we'll check out other options in town first.

A.Reasonable food at a reasonable price, but still kinda rural Auckland traditional - meaning it definitely is NOT a gastro-pub! You'll find the usual selection of standard pub grub here, like burgers, nachos, steaks and such. Reasonably comfy, if you don't mind watching the dogs racing on the TAB channel...
A.Old world atmosphere. Nice place to have lunch after riding the Steam Train.
F.This is a good value for the money and is a historic hotel, being the oldest pub in New Zealand. The rooms are basic but adequate. The bar downstairs is lively but things quieted down after 10 pm.
I.Lunch last Sunday was nice. Staff are pleasant and smiling all the time. Must have a great boss for them to look cheerful all the time.
