The staff was very friendly and helpful, but the hotel as such feels a bit run down. Boutique-y and old-fashioned, yes, but more the dusty side of old-fashioned. The room had a good size, but the carpet hadn't been cleaned in quite a while, the window didn't close properly and the bathroom could have done with a deep clean, too. The restaurant on the ground floor closes at 6pm and breakfast is not available before 8am, which makes it very obvious that this place doesn't really suit business travelers.

Very picturesque rooms with high ceilings. Really great atmosphere of old grand hotels.
Bathroom and room were very clean.
The cafe/bistro offers a nice variety of seating with a gas fireplace and good choice of drinks.
Sadly, it's closed on weekends and in the evenings.
The shower was not well sealed off and the water drained onto the floor on the outside of the shower.
There is usual noise from a city and the single glazed windows let quite some in.
Overall a very nice stay with a great atmosphere and central location and very friendly staff.

Great place to stay. Very old school. Great service

It was my birthday on 20/06 therefore I took a flight to Wellington on 19/06 and a train back to Auckland on 20/06. I chose to stay at this Hotel due to the proximity to train station and could not have made a better choice.
First of all, in a rainy and cold afternoon, I was greeted by a very helpful young lady who gave me all directions and information about the hotel. Even offered to help with some bowls and cutlery for a breakfast on the following day since the restaurant is closed on the weekends.
Then the Hotel itself is pretty cool. My room was great, beautiful and large bathroom, and plenty of snacks and drinks in the mini bar.
The lift is also very nice as well as the reception area. It feels that you are back in the 40's..
Anyway, thanks to you all and this place is definitely recommended if you are in Wellington and enjoy staying in a heritage hotel.

Needs a good modernisation. Many aspects are nice but it is like stepping back in time. A nice place for a quiet business lunch attended to by attentive staff
M.
Brilliant everything! Was awesome to stay in a location that also had history, instead of another motel/hotel that is the same in every town. Would high recommend!!
J.
The coolest hotel in Wellington - great food downstairs and coffee next door. If you want cookie cutter, this aint it, which is why it rocks. And you get real milk in ya fridge - nice!
M.
We booked a deluxe room for a little extra. Whole experience excellent from both check in and out women to the size and style of the room and massive gorgeous bathroom. Also had a sea view and so close to the heart of town. Will come and stay again!

Good experience with older downtown boutique hotel. Spacious bath, comfy bed. Antique elevator is fun. Good location for most of our sightseeing interests. There is a problem if you're here on a weekend with some restaurants closed, but not their fault.
a.
Enjoyable atmosphere. Good coffee. Thai crispy chicken was too fare and the local kereru porter a good drop
C.
Overall an OK experience. Staff very friendly and helpful. Facilities adequate. Room was a bit run down and could do with a refurb.
A.
Loved our night there...very handy for city centre, railway stn, waterfront etc. Great bar area and service

Despite meeting a ghost man in a suit
on the 3rd floor stairway I had a lovely stay. Like having a trip back in time. Staff was helpful and food was great! Will definitively stay again! Keep the memories alive!

The building itself is beautiful and it's in a great location, right in the middle of Wellington. The room I stayed in was spacious, and the decor was very elegant but there was peeling paint and it generally felt a bit worse for wear. Nothing a bit of redecorating wouldn't fix. Staff were lovely, but sometimes a bit difficult to find.
b.
Our favourite place to stay in wellington. Quiet and full of character. Large rooms and bathrooms. The queen beds are actuaally queen beds not two beds pushed together like most hotels
D.
A little bit dated, staff are very welcoming and professional. Ordered a beer and a burger as part of WOAP. Burger was better than average good beer matching. No long waits here prompt service and food came a short time after ordering. Prices were reasonable and area set for eating was not over crowded.

“It’s just like staying in a murder mystery” is what a friend told me prior to my first stay and they were not wrong. Bar the murder and mystery mind. Fantastic old building and lovely finishing touches. I have stayed here a few times now and it’s the first place I call when looking for accomodation in Wellington. It’s not all quaint and old though, the room is in great condition modern enough with heritage features rather than battered old junk. Try this place out, I think it’s the only place I know where you could feel under dressed in a suit and tie at breakfast (not in a bad way), with such a beautiful dining experience
V.
Nice warm and Spacey room. Big and clean bathroom with good tub (deluxe). Love the room but no view and free wifi is not good. The old style lift is a bit scary but fun to use.
A.
Good place, I wasn't too impressed with the food and at first I felt the place to be a bit run down. It is very cosy though and has a boutique vibe that is hard to find at that quality
A.
Really good hotel!
Love it.
If we go to Wellington we try book accommodation there.
The location is perfect for us, not on the busiest street in the Wellington cbd, however not far from the city.
Easy access to all Wellington can offer: cafes, restaurants, bars....
In a walking distance from Te Papa and other tourist attractions.

Like walking into the set of "Shining". We came late and walked into a well-lit but beautiful old building, picked up our room key from an envelope left at the empty checkin counter, stepped into an early century elevator, got out of an even emptier floor and went into our room.
The room itself was well appointed. There was a claw-foot bathtub in the large and clean toilet. Bed was large and comfortable.
In the morning, there was a friendly lady at the checkin counter, the only person we ran into throughout that stay. I have no doubt it is a nice hotel, but we could not wait to get out of there!

The first night we stayed there had one of Wellington biggest Earthquakes. They sure know how to build these old buildings. Other than the lamps falling off the side table and some paint chips coming off in the passage way. In this old building I felt safe, we were in the top story. The night manager Sam was calm and knew what to do for our safety. I loved the old 4 claw bath, was a dream to soak in one. Everything was so clean and I felt I had gone back to another time. Staff was so friendly made our few nights the best we have had in Wellington.

Recommended. So different than your run of the mill (big brand names) hotels. Small number of rooms on an old floor plan means massive rooms - the bathroom was as big as some hotels I've been in and included a lovely old freestanding cast iron bath.
Worth a look in the foyer and cafe/restaurant if you are just passing by too.
R.
My 2nd time staying here. I love the old world charm of the rooms and the building, the history and the claw foot bath! So close to the city and the water.
O.
i have Started my day with a delicious breakfast, enjoyed a satisfying lunch and a cup of great coffee with one of scrumptious in-house baked treats. In Wellington one of the best hotels. Thank you for a great time.
L.
Lovely old fashioned rooms. Very comfortable.
P.
This is a lovely old place retaining much of its charm. There is a small cafe just inside where you can grab a coffee and snack. Slightly run down but the old character compensates for this. Central and close to Lambton Quay (the shopping mile of central wellington). I like going here when I catch up with people in wellington for coffee.
C.
Like time travelling to an amazing building in the past but without the hassle of needing a tardis. Beautiful hotel 🤩
G.
Accommodation is quirky, historic and well priced. Attached cafe has excellent latte and takeaway salads. Highly recommended
J.
Really nice place to stay. Large room and enormous bathroom. Very welcoming and accommodating staff.
R.
It has a wonderful ambience and loads of character, but I felt it was let down by an unmanned front desk after 4 pm Saturday so that we were forced to leave on Sunday without formally checking out
V.
Loved it, excellent location and cool old hotel with fantastic coffee shop
S.
Only planned to stay a night but ended up with a few extra days in Welly. The staff at the hotel were great and very helpful. Would recommend to friends and family.
F.

M.
Charming "old style" luxurious cafe. Full of old people in suits (MBIE is near here as are a lot of Govt Ministries) but don't let that put you off
P.
It is a good place to go for dinner, the staff are very nice and the food is ok for the price, but not fantastic. The hotel itself looks really good.

(Translated) What a strange, anachronistic place, where one would think that time has stopped. Go through the door to the reception, then above all take the elevator, open the door of a large bedroom with living room, very thick carpet as always, and you are in another time space. Then go into the huge tiled bathroom with its double showers, sinks and large bathtub. We sleep well there, it's calm. Downtown, very close to the port and entertainment, shops too. 10 mins from the Ferries. Unlike so many others, a place that we never forget.
(Original)
