The optometrist Kendal, at Bailey Nelson was excellent. She explained what she was doing really well. She was thorough and professional. It was a good experience. I had clarity around the options open to me. The receptionists, on the other hand, beckoned me inside and then ignored me while they chatted about weight loss. Kendal asked my name and checked me in which is surely their job. The 5 stars are for my eye check!

Very happy with the choice of frames and the helpful staff. My only criticism is that the receipt you provided does not specify the model of the frames I purchased. It just says a generic "frames". For insurance purposes I needed to specify the model.

Brilliant, so customer focussed. Polite, always checking we were ok whilst waiting, as we were early. Took time to explain why we didn't need our vax pass. Same with testing, everything explained well and questions answered patiently. Always checking I understood what was being done and why. Have worn glasses for over 60 years and Bailey Nelson take a lot of beating. Very professional. Great environment and well set out if you needed new frames. From the optometrist to the shop clerks that assisted through the process of finding my two pairs of prescriptions was absolutely a pleasant experience. I went into the store to pick up my glasses on Sunday and the great service I received from the female clerk(unfortunately I did not ask for her name) was completely out of this world! The products are a great price, although I have to wear my glasses for a while to access the quality ... so far so good. They even straightened up my old frames perfectly which for some reason my previous more expensive Optometrist had not been able to do. I didn't get the store text that my glasses arrived so recommend email instead ( as those advertising text codes can be blocked which I had done prior not thinking I would need some later)

Me oh my how good is this place! Awesome range of fantastic glasses at reasonable prices. Staff are super friendly - especially the optometrist, Kendall - and really helpful. Looking forward to getting my two new pairs. It can get expensive if you need a greater than ~1.5 prescription like I do, but still cheaper for designer frames and lenses than many other places.

I'm delighted with my Bailey Nelson experience. My glasses were $175, including the lenses. Other shops are more than that just for the frames, or require you to buy 2 pairs to get the deal to make them lower cost. Bailey Nelson feels to me like a middle ground between expensive like OPSM, while still having the customer service and optometry assistance you can't get with cheap online stores like Zenni. I ordered on a Saturday, and they were in store Wednesday the week after. That included 2 public holidays in that time period. The staff were very helpful when I was choosing my glasses, without being too over-bearing. I like the range of styles, it was so hard to pick one!

The optometrist Kendall is lovely and gave me a fantastic eye test! The selection of glasses are fashionable and reasonably priced. However, I am disappointed with the process of frame selection and fitting process. This is my first pair of prescription glasses, and I did not have any experience regarding how to select and test frames for a correct and reliable fit. I selected a frame that I liked and that seemed to fit, but when I got the final product I noticed a big difference. Whereas the sample glasses were really light and sat nicely on the bridge of my nose, the delivered glasses were much heavier, they could not stay on the bridge of my nose (continually slipping down my nose and not staying in place) and the lenses sat uncomfortably close to my eyes. I had to return to the shop and ask for an adjustment to install a nose pad (which should have been recommended and installed originally or advice to choose another frame option). The privilege of adjusting the glasses required a payment another $30 and waiting an additional week for completion. I really feel there could have been much more care and advice on how the completed glasses would sit, and recommendations for any alterations of adjustments to suit my needs.

Really appreciated the Optometrist's warmth, clear instructions, pace and full explanation of health of eyes and vision. She laid out the options and encouraged my agency and questions. It was an excellent experience as there was no sense if time pressure. I also appreciated the conversation with the staff member who adjusted my glasses and who took time to have a real and caring conversation with me. It was 'an extra mile' moment which allowed two peopke to care for each other and depart with both feeling encouraged and knowing that we had each been gifted with a listening ear and kindness. For someone living on her own it meant a lot to me. Thank you.

They helped me find new glasses and was patient with me even though sometimes I not understand. Excellent optometrist at super affordable prices right in the heart of Ponsonby! They offer a free yearly eye test and two pairs of glasses for $300 deal which is what I usually get on top of my contact lenses. Clean, tidy store with lovely, easy-going, professional, non drama staff. Forget about the other places that suck every last penny out of you, Bailey Nelson has literally saved me thousands of dollars over the years and I'm not the only one who has mentioned that, no hyperbole! Highly recommended.

My husband and I were both looking for a pair of sunglasses and I also needed a script for “driving at night” glasses. We had such great service and easily selected 4 pairs for $600. My script glasses were couriered too me as soon as they were available. Such a great range to choose from and totally affordable.

Visiting Bailey Nelson was the best optometrist experience I've ever had. I was served at the BN in Ponsonby by Cassey and as soon as I walked into the store she greeted me with a enthusiastic hello and asked me if I would like some help with anything. Within 10 mins she had found me the glasses that actually suited me! For the first time in a long time I was actually excited to need and have to wear specs. Within 15 mins after she had struck gold for me, she had me getting my eyes thoroughly tested by the eligant and beutiful Surekha. It was as if I had a professional physician taking all necessary measures possible, which I initially was stressed about, but Surekha made me feel relaxed, calm and insured that I was in good hands. These two lovely ladies weren't the only welcoming and kind people who chatted with me. There was also a kind hearted, fashionable young Ruby, and strapping gentleman who made me feel at home during my experience at the Ponsonby Bailey Nelson branch. I would 100/10 recommend shopping here if you have poor or average vision. They not only helped my vision, they gave me a fresh, new view of how specs can be a fashion accessory rather than a pain. If you work at B&N and you are reading this, This team is the dream team! They should at least be shouted a lunch or pair of specs! Best shopping experience I have ever had! After about 6 months of purchase one screw of my spectacles came off and went to Ponsonby outlet to fix it. Even the girls at the shop couldn't fix that. Since it was still under warranty they offered me a brand new spectacles of the same model but with a different color. I am not much worried about the color and was glad to have the new one. I really appreciate the service offered.

Affordable, nice frames. Professional and well informed optometrists. The free eye exam is what made me make appointments for both my partner and I initially, however I did feel pressured to choose a pair and pay for them within the first visit. Had lovely customer service during this consultation. I experienced some issues with my glasses when they arrived and asked if it was anything to worry about, I was invited to make an appointment to discuss my concerns with the optometrist. I went this Saturday and dealt with an assistant who was abrupt and didn’t seem interested in us. didn’t take my concerns seriously, made me feel uncomfortable when they whispered with another optometrist just next to me, and seemed intent on getting me to leave without actually seeing the optometrist. I was already struggling to explain what didn’t feel right, and I hit a point where I decided I’d leave. I asked for my glasses back so I could go, to which the assistant looked clearly relieved, and will not be going back. The manager was lovely on both occasions, but the assistant made me feel silly and unimportant.

I have moved out of town and shop with another company that I’m also very happy with, and when I asked for my prescription they were prompt in sending it and still super friendly. I found the experience at Bailey Nelson Ponsonby really awesome! Immediately greeted when I entered, the staff are suuuuuper involved in finding you the right frames, and the optometrist was really knowledgeable and friendly. I do find it odd that two of the testing machines are basically on the shop floor, so if you’re shy it’s a bit weird, but that’s down to the layout of the shop and nothing to do with the staff. Your first eye test with them is free and their frames + lenses are very reasonably priced (mine were $175 + 60 for the addition of a blue light filter) considering they’re amazing quality and really cool. You can also choose their sunglasses frames for your seeing glasses which is amazing. BN is a breath of fresh air to an otherwise quite stale glasses industry and I’m super excited to collect my glasses in a few weeks!

Awesome prices and excellent customer service. I went there just the other day and Taylor was very helpful. Not only did she help find a pair of glasses that suited me, she also consoled me as my pet hamster had recently passed away. I'll be sure to visit there again when I need a new pair. Positives: Good-looking and fashionable frames and friendly service at a good price. Negatives: They don’t have sports frames or sports sunglasses. I have been going there for last three years and had 4 pairs of glasses and 2 contact lenses done here. The staff keep changing yearly, always friendly and helpful but their skills in adjusting the fit of prescription glasses really need improving. The sunglasses I had made 2 years ago never fit right after 2 separate adjustments and the new pair of glasses I got recently also doesn’t fit well after repeated adjustments. I think the staff need better training in this area. I eventually had my sunglasses adjusted at OPSM Remuera and it fit perfectly after one adjustment. Their pupil position measurement method of placing two dots on the lens by looking at you directly seems less accurate compared to the digital method my mother experienced at another store. I would recommend this store if you are not fussy with the fit of your glasses and want fashionable glasses at a good price. They make their own glasses and can only put lenses in their own brand frames. I think it would be ideal if they can make Asian fit frames.

I've shopped at BN at this location since 2016 or so and have had a pleasant experience both times. This time was also pleasant before and during the eye test appointment but when it came time for sales - I truly, (unexpectedly) felt a bit like I was being hustled! I was clear after the exam that my prescription hadn't changed and I was clear that I only wanted one new pair to add to the 2 pairs I have already but I was kind of strongly pushed into the 2 for $300 deals, as well as blue tint coating etc. It felt like the old fashioned mall shoe shop experience where you end up leaving with the thing you came for PLUS 5 shoecare products you just got pushed into! It should be noted that the optometrist and the junior sales person were really very nice & exactly what I’d come to expect of BN but there was a senior sales person constantly looking over the shoulder of the junior, whispering, suggesting, that made me quite uncomfortable on behalf of the junior member. In the end my $175 (or 2 for $300!) glasses and a free eye exam cost me $235 which I politely questioned at the register, and was given an explanation for, but still don't understand. But my complain is not about the money at all. I'll keep going back because I like the setup, their proximity suits me and their frame designs are choice but I'd like BN to understand it can put people off when you dogpile them with oversell.

Staff are excellent to deal with, friendly and very professional. I ordered 2 pairs of glasses, one with transition lenses. Unfortunately the package got caught up in customs due to some damage on the box (no products were broken or anything though). Because these took a week longer to be cleared they gave me a free pair of prescription sunglasses. I was originally going to get Ditta Folsom frames but these were vastly cheaper but as good as or better quality, and pretty much the same style. Would definitely recommend and will be going back in future.

As a first time patient I was a bit apprehensive however the excellent staff put me at ease and thoroughly explained everything to me. I am sorry I did not get the name of the consultant that dealt with me but her professionalism and pleasant manner was second to none as was the optometrist that did the eye examination. Superb Service. I wasn’t expecting to be so enthusiastic about an eye test (I mean, who really enjoys an eye test..?). However, after finishing this eye test, I immediately sent a txt to my wife and told her she should head to Bailey Nelson to get checked. The optometrist, Kendall Johnston, was fantastic. Very clear instructions and explanations. As a result I have a very good understanding of the current state of my vision and (importantly/reassuringly) what to expect in the coming years. Despite the fact that this was a free test (which is usually the hook for a sales pitch), there was no “hard sell” whatsoever. I’m in the service industry, so I know and appreciate excellent service (as much as I can recognise poor service). I throughly recommend you get an eye test here (ideally by Kendall!). Whether you then choose to buy anything or not, you’ll be happy you did.

Great selection of modern frames at a reasonable price. This is my second pair from this shop. Had a problem with a charge for an extra eye test charged but found Taylor to be very understanding and interested in maintaining good ongoing customer relationships. Definitely a company that values its customers.

I had a great appointment with the Opthalmologist, who gave me some good advice. I am really happy with the prescription sunglasses that I ordered and I think that B&N have highly original products. The shop floor service was a little indifferent, which may put me off ordering another pair. Prescription glasses are not cheap, and since they send them off to Thailand to be made up, the mark-up must be huge.

Excellent service and very helpful. I bought a pair of "Lincoln" reading glasses with clip-on's. After about a 3 weeks of use, I noticed the lenses of the reading glasses and clip-on's were coming in contact and scratching each other. I took it back to BN - they were super helpful and apologetic. They offered to replace both the glasses lenses with a flatter (more expensive) lens and give me new clip-on's - free of charge. They turned it around in about a week and were more than happy to do this. I've had glasses from Specsavers and other boutique optometrists but these guys blow them away at a fraction of the cost. 13/10 would go again :)

If you asked me to rate the store a day ago I would have given it 5 stars. We’ve bought all of our family glasses from here for the last few years (6 pairs and counting...) We bought a metal frame for our 10 year old last visit in Feb 2018 - I was nervous about them breaking with normal 10 year old wear-and-tear but the sales staff assured us and said any issues you can bring them back. Unfortunately the frame broke yesterday so I brought them in to see our options. The manager immediately had an aggressive and unsympathetic approach. My perspective was that my daughter would have used the frames like any 10 year old and I saw it was something that happened through wear and tear over time with the frames finally compromising. I already acknowledge that they were out of warranty and that they wouldn’t fix them. I guess she had a bad day because she immediately jumped into reactive mode and insisted only excessive force could have caused the frame to break and that I was wrong to suggest it was a slow break overtime due to typical 10 year old wear and tear. My lesson - don’t buy metal frames for a 10 year old - even if the sales staff insists it will be ok and don’t go back to Bailey Nelson when/if they do break. I essentially had to agree with her to de-escalate which leaves me reconsidering whether to shop there again. (I do love the frames and the price though...) A side note - I also told the manager we wanted to buy a second pair of frames and lenses today but as she was more interested in being cross with us we left. UPDATE: Went to the Takapuna store and they were super helpful. We bought a new pair of glasses and sent the existing frames off to be repaired. They even swapped out the existing lenses while they were being repaired so our daughter had a backup in the meantime.
