I can’t speak too highly of this place. I am in Nelson on holiday and as usual, the lens fell out of my glasses. The expert at Matthews fixed them on the spot and amazed me by saying there was no charge. What a great impression of Nelson to take home. Aileen Crayford

This morning I had my first consultation with Dennis the optometrist at Matthew's Eyecare.
Dennis was through and respectful in his examination of my eyes ,explaining each step of the process. He then clearly explained in simple terms his analysis of his findings.
In all the years I have had eye examinations I have never had anyone examine or explain their findings in such depth.
My account was not cheap but certainly worth the cost for the diligent examination I received.
I would highly recommend Dennis at Matthews for an in depth assessment of your eyes.
The other staff I dealt with were also friendly and helpful.

I have visited Matthews twice in the last month, with my son and then for my own eye check. Dennis both times did very thorough, gentle eye checks. He explained everything very well and is extremely polite. I highly recommend going to Matthews in Nelson for any eye care needs.

Ordered a pair of glasses for -10.00 myopia and astigmatism right after lockdown.
Neil was super kind and helpful, was very happy with my experience.
Came back to have loose frame tightened. Lady optometrist made thousand of minor scratches on lenses by scrubbing while chatting to her colleague about how amazing her local regular customers were. My vision got glittery, full of halos and glare.
Came back to get it assessed they didn’t seem to care too much. Another lady optometrist explained the process very flatly; the pair will be sent to their lab, they hear back in 3days and contact me. Agreed and left my pair to them.
On the 3rd day (fri) afternoon no news. Popped up in the store. Told me looking a bit annoyed that they’ve got nothing yet, courier would come around 2-3pm, they’d call me after that. Asked them to ring me even if there’s no progress they promised to do so. 17:10, 5mins till they close, still no call back. Rang them, lady said sounding annoyed ‘nothing yet, was just about to ring the lab then ring you.’ Sure they were. Not to mention, after 17:15 nothing is heard.
Long weekend is here, 6days without my glasses, only with contact lenses, my eyes are so dried that they irritate and give me headaches.
Don’t understand why I needed to be treated like an annoying unreasonable customer while they were so nice to local regular customers.
If it was $10 reading glasses I wouldn’t have cared this much. I care because my prescription is complicated, I need my glasses to live my normal life safely, and it fairly costed me.
If my glasses gained scratches after 5yrs of use by me, fair enough. It hasn’t been even a year since purchased, always cleaned lenses only with warm water and a bit of detergent, rubbing very gently, just let the cloth absorb water, never scrubbed. radical change from comfortable clear vision to glittery vision with halos and glare in one day by someone’s mistake is not agreeable.
Felt like they care when you’re local not a backpacker, and when they care they’re definitely amazing.
There was a moment that they reconfirmed my address, and they mentioned between them that it was a backpackers and gave me a weird look. Ever since then felt like they were not taking it seriously.
It is disappointing that it got to a point that I needed to express my opinion here not in person.
Just hoping to get away from all the fuss soon.

Excellent customer services from front line to the Optometrist "Gina", beyond my expectation. They tried to swap both of the frames and accidentally damaged one and took full responsibility to replace it without any question and any charge. We will definitely go to see them when time due for check up and new glasses. Thank you.

Today I had a screw come loose.. no not in my brain but my sunglasses.. went to Matthews eyewear and asked a very gorgeous young lady , could she fix.. smile .. not a problem!! Mentioned my gross glasses were wobbly and nose bits broken !!! Not a problem.. so all fixed.. no charge WHAT!! Wonderful service, lovely lively person.. going back✔️
