Reviews of Auckland Botanic Gardens
C.
Absolutely stunning place! Parks are big enough to take the portable bbq and have a family day out and have your own spot. Cafe is on site and the entire park is wheelchair friendly. Free admission. Though the map and track or not the easiest to follow when you are distracted away by plants of the course.
J.
Gorgeous! Lovely place for a walk, nice cafe and interesting sculptures. It is just a very large park really with some different trees & plants to see. Would be cool to see more variation / things to see and do as well as some outdoor areas with cover from the sun where you can bbq or get a group together.
B.
We stopped by for an afternoon since they had the sculpture in the park going.
They are located just off the Hill Rd offramp going on the Southern Motorway.
There isn't a big sign for the entrance but it does have a magnificent arch as you enter.
The carpark is fairly large and does have quite a bit of parking. There is also a second parking lot further down. The gardens are free to enter. You can head in from the main entrance or just go through the sides. There is a map up front so you can get an idea of what's around.
The place is really big and quite beautiful. There are plenty of places to just sit and relax in the grassy areas. There are a few different areas in the gardens and they are all quite different. We walked into a farm area with edible plants, which was an experience. We walked further along the paths and ended up in the palms area which looked like a bushwalk.
There were some areas that were still being redone but overall it was really nice. We walked for a bit and only managed to walk around a portion of the gardens. It does look like the gardens connect to Totara Park.
There was also a fresh fruit ice cream stall by the entrance which would be good during a hot day.
E.
Always a pleasure. A wonderful space for all Aucklanders, which is beautifully kept. We always thoroughly enjoy the sculptures and art also.
J.
Great place for jogg, run or walk. Dog friendly as well. Good for quite time or family picnics .
P.
Awesome garden.
Good place for a run or just to relax.
Benches available at many places.
T.
Good place to visit, walk around the different areas of the garden, sight seeing different varieties of NZ flora and fauna. If you keen to just have a quiete time and read some books a small library just next to the reception building. Keen to enjoy a cuppa with family and friends no need to worry there's a cafe' inside the reception building.
M.
Organic environment: good place to visit with family and friends. It has library facility as well which comes under Auckland libraries.
E.
A very well-maintained garden in South Auckland. Within it there are some different theme parks. There’s also a large pool that is home for many birds. In there I’ve found white/wax eyes, chaffinch, greenfinch, golden finch, swallows & lots of other common birds. The roses there are very beautiful.
M.
First time my son and I had been, couldn’t get over how much there was to see even on a rainy day we’ll be back as I’m sure we missed heaps
b.
Beautiful massive garden . It has a lot of unique flowers and herbs . For those who are crazy to explore more this place is for you
L.
Nice place for walking young , adults and dogs too. Picturesque place, Wedding photoshoots or just taking pictures for your social media. Friendly ducks too. You can buy duck foods to feed them, your kids will enjoy. They serve nice foods at the restaurant too.
A.
Lovely gardens, saw so many lovely flowers and liked the elidable garden. Lots of space and pretty spaces.
c.
Perfect place to catch up with friends socially distanced etc. Lots of space to wander around and there has been upgrades which are lovely. Open spaces ,nooks crannies to explore. After months of lockdown is was magic!
C.
Never get sick of a walk here. Today is sunny & beautiful altho chilly. There was frost on the grass which u don't see often in Ak. A lot of construction in various parts, I'm sure it will be even better this summer
M.
As a local around the area, best place for a morning walk. Well maintained gardens all around the year. A very nice cafe inside for a morning coffee.
T.
Love this place it's nice an quiet good for walking with there beautiful surroundings and chill out for the day 5+ for me
O.
Beautiful, well organised and huge park. Highly recommended, we visited 2020 (October & November)
Á.
Easy to find, easy to park. The main building has information area and also a coffee shop. The park is huge. Well organized. I think is better to use the map because many ways you can walk around. I loved that is a dog friendly park. Beautiful and clean.
L.
Best place for family picnic and walk in south auckland.
C.
Maintained well and a good walk with lots of variety.
Con is lots of unleashed dogs, outside of allowed areas.
T.
Such a beautiful place, they have plenty of flowers. Love the roses garden. Free access and heap of parking slots…
S.
An amazing botanical park. A gem that Aucklanders should be proud of. Plenty of space, great family friendly and well paved paths. Take your time A morning spent here is not long enough to take in all this park has to offer
J.
Always a great visit, great day out for all
A.
Always compelling sculpture symposium against the backdrop of gardens. Very special
K.
The Auckland Botanic Gardens are just amazing. It's really spacious, well cared of and beautiful. It take the family / kids there often since there's just so much to do and to see - or just grab your own private piece of paradise and enjoy the day relaxing.
S.
Very good place to visit with children. There is a playground for them. Also, my son loved seeing frogs in one of the sculptures. It would be great to have more animals on site.
P.
Great place to go for a walk and just relax and take in nature.
a.
Beautiful place they have ample of parking slots in front .Beautiful fountains ⛲️ in front lot of greenery and different garden of herbs , roses, spring flowers,African garden ,thoughtful sculptures. Potter’s children garden Neat and clean every where .Cafeteria inside the visitor centre , public toilets neat and clean .proper information and guidance boards everywhere must visit place
T.
Great facility. Very well kept gardens. Kids loved it. Cafe Miko was also superb. Gluten free options were limited but they took specific note of coeliac disease which was great. Chip portions are huge. Staff were very friendly. Definitely be visiting again soon.
Y.
Auckland Botanical Garden is located in South Auckland about 20km from Auckland city. It is FREE to visit with plenty of free parking available as well. It is must visit for everyone in Auckland. You can easily spend the whole day with your family. Perfect for day trips, picnics, photography and an opportunity to learn about so many plants including native plants. Yes you can bring your dog. It is a pet friendly. Public toilet and cafe is a bonus. I believe you can also park your motorhome with dedicated parking available as per my photos.
J.
The Botanical Gardens are absolutely gorgeous. Currently there is a sculpture trail, showing fascinating creations by NZ sculptors. While following that trail you go through well looked after areas planted with native and exotic flowers, shrubs and trees. A great experience and one that requires repeated visits to fully appreciate all on offer.
D.
Every corner is cared for and tended and is a pleasure to spend time in. A space for Aucklanders to go and soak in the natural beauty of flora and fauna.
W.
A wonderful, peaceful environment. The Sculpture Gardens is on at the moment. Some amazing creations. So much to see. Enjoyed it. There is a cafe there too.
J.
The Auckland Botanical Gardens are wonderful, there is plenty of area to walk with your dog. Including a number of off leash areas. As for the plants and wildlife, feeding the ducks is a must (using the botanical garden bought duck feed). Beautiful scenery provides a range of photo opportunities. The only piece of advice is to pick a solid time and day as usually hot summer days tend to get busy towards the middle of the day.
L.
Absolutely beautiful place to walk around and venture, we've always enjoyed coming here several times a year, especially to the kids potters garden area..
Unfortunately if your unvaccinated you're unable to use the public toilets at the main entrance, they'll send you over to where the labour workers go. Very disappointing as toilets are a basic human right so shame on you for turning people away and sending them to a dingy old toilet bay 100m away. The other toilets in the gardens are not segregated.
J.
Absolutely breath taking! It is much bigger than I anticipated. If you have a very young one, I suggest bringing a stroller with.
However there is a fabulous 15 to 20 minute train ride to enjoy!
A.
Love coming here with the family! Beautiful scenery and several different things to see. Fun for children as well! Enjoy an ice cream when you finish your walk and sit on the grass and get some vitamin D in summer
J.
Great place to spend time looking at the beautiful park like property.
Also bargains at the nursery on Thursday all sales go directly back into the up keep of the gardens .
Big Cafe and playground art shop .
Coffe van .
Very nice
J.
Beautifully designed botanic park! many paths to walk and many different kind of plants and flowers to see. The whole garden is fill with native birds. You probably can see everything in about 2 hours (going very slowly) but the day was so perfect and the environment so nice that we spent the whole day there. Its totally FREE and there is a Cafe to buy snacks in case you get hungry. BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO VISIT!
P.
Great place for family picnic or just morning or evening walk . Great that you can bring your dog too. Has a cafe for a nice quick meal after morning run .
B.
Beautiful garden! Open to the public and free
R.
Loved it! Grounds were clean and well kept. The flowers are blooming right now and it's a beautiful sight. Just wish there were more rubbish bins, otherwise always a good time here 😆
G.
Great expansivev gardens with a variety of areas planted.
i.
This place is different each time I visit. Always overwhelms you with beautiful flowers and greenery along with various exhibits and statues on display. A great day out and a nice cafe to visit with a friend. You get a great workout when walking around the gardens.
v.
Beautiful garden with wonderful collection of flowers (maybe swapping the two adjective words would make more sense, but well...surely you wont mind imperfect English expressions 😉), good place to visit, but it is not common that a place would be so full of people in new Zealand, which was a bit of surprise for me. Anyway, beautiful place, no place will go wrong with such beautiful flowers. Real scene is better than what you see in the photos, as there is no camera is as good as human eyes. My humble prayer is that you will have a blessed time as you go there😊
K.
Clean and we looked after. A beautiful garden with lots of shady spots at summer time under the trees. Lovely walks around the park. There is a pond so if you have toddlers and kids prone to getting into the water, keep a good eye on them. Some great sculptures around the park. You can walk across to Totara Park and across to Redoubt Road side of Totara Park too. Dogs on leashes are welcome. Wheelchair accessible with parking close by. A lovely spot for a wedding or photos. A Cafe on site. Expensive, but delicious food and drinks. Toilets available. Sensory Garden is nice.
M.
Great as always. Stunning flowers.
l.
Top visiting sight during spring & winter. Enjoy an enjoyable stroll but check in your COVID-19 app or manual writing. Free crushed corn bits for birds @ any donation box (next to Giant LED screen. Have a cuppa coffee before embarking either 1-3hr pleasant stroll of colorful & beautiful flowers. Roses prune & will bloom in Summer. May tree big & small plants eagerly showing off their bright colors. Take picture or record in mind the magnificent spread. No rubbish bins & pls bring back with you. However , water station pipes are around to quench your thirst. Enjoy
R.
Lovely day out. Great for kids and dogs as well.
D.
This is a great photography spot for couples, young families, portrait, event etc. the front entrance features a rock wall that is great for family portraits when dimly lit. The major outline for me at this location are the sakura trees or cherry blossom trees as they are large and fit the scenery. Another outline for me are the small patches of trees which are great for people photography since they limit harsh lighting on sunny days - a life saver for portrait photographers! One downside I experienced on all of my visits are that it does get extremely populated especially at the sakura tree making it hard to maneuver for photos.
T.
Always a delight visiting here as the gardens change week to week
H.
Perfect spot for family all year round! Really nothing can complain.
One of most worthy to visit destinations in Auckland. Simply relax and walk through the well maintained gardens. Sit around at convenient benches or the central ground, bring your lunch and mat. Soak in the sun and breath the aroma in the air.
Life is so wonderful. :)
Forgot to mention that there is nice cafe an entrance. Haven’t tried food yet but nice coffee.
R.
Beautiful and refreshing place to be at. A friend booked her daughter's birthday party here and everyone enjoyed the view and its relaxing place.
J.
Awesome service by Mich and the ladies at the office. We organised a wedding at the gardens and Mich was very helpful from the start and throughout the event. Highly recommend 😀
B.
It’s a bit of a drive from central Auckland to get there but well worth making the effort. We did the morning before our flight out, as it’s only a 15 minute drive to the airport.
Facilities excellent, packed coffee shop so it must be doing ok and 150 odd acres of grounds to explore. Our visit was spring so the rose gardens were in full flower.
Lot’s of bird life, bees and insects. Also has a large off leash area for dogs.
D.
Nice place to go for a picnic with your family.Plenty of grass area for the kids to play and walking paths. But, the premices is not allowed bikes, scooters and skateboards.
M.
Some beautiful camelias and magnolias at this time. I also enjoyed the African garden and seeing some proteas. The garden that shows creative ways of using indigenous plants was also worth seeing. In other ways it is a bit disappointing. Some empty weedy beds and several untidy looking areas where weeds have got a hold. Not as well presented as other botanical gardens I have visited. I would have liked to see more seasonal spring planting.
J.
Auckland Botanic Gardens is simply an amazing park and should be a must visit for locals and tourists if you've not been here before. Every season they have different themed areas, it's a vast area but well worth the walk to see all the native and forgein plants. Alot people come here to take weddings photos, spend the day with the kids and have a picnic or walk their dogs. There are plenty of sitting areas all around the park. There is also a specific educational area for the kids called potters park. Really enjoyed my visit here, the highlight in my opinion was the sculpture garden, it was resplendent!
L.
A gorgeous place to connect with nature and with loved ones! It's super expanse as well, you could be walking for hours and not get bored 😁😍😍
There is an info centre with public restrooms and a cafe on site. Some drinking fountains here and there.
Just... Don't... Take cuttings lel. Especially in the edible garden 🤣 🤣
K.
Absolute beauty. Such a nice, peaceful, bright and colourful place to visit with friends and family or your special someone. Very nice cafe on site as well with seating indoors and outdoors (dog friendly outdoor seating) make sure you wear comfortable shoes if you plan to walk around the entire gardens. Plenty of on-site parking as well.
N.
Went here in a beautiful November day. Families were everywhere having their own little picnics, taking photos, laughing. The cafe was full inside and outside and there were two different wedding photoshoots happening and one freelance writer taking photos of families for her next article.
As a family we walked around taking photos after our picnic and taking in all the flowers, edible garden, ponds, shrubs, succulent, cacti and information placed in different spots. The statues we're eye-catching and intriguing.
Toilets, water fountains and rooms for event hiring are also available.
Just don't forget to grab your kids an activity sheet at the front desk 😊 and explore the children's garden.
At the moment they are constructing better pathways so there is a whole segment blocked off but they do have all the detour signs up to help get you were you want to go.
Cannot wait to come back again and hopefully all the construction is done.
More photos to follow.
J.
The best botanic gardens I have ever had the pleasure to visit, and the "Sculpture in the Gardens" art showcase was just an added bonus.
These gardens are magnificent, and I could have spent days wandering the extensive pathways or venturing deeper into the arboretum.
If I were a Kiwi, I would be overflowing with pride at how well these gardens are maintained and that they remain free for the public.
J.
Wonderful place to spend the afternoon. Entry is free, large area with ideas for planting your own garden. Popular for school trips. Good place to bring your family. Park is wheelchair accessible and there are wheelchairs available at the visitor centre should you need them. Went close to winter and found the variety of plants rather underwhelming. Loved the rose garden.
G.
I come here often for picnics and to observe nature. It is great to see some stunning native birds like the Tui hanging about the trees. Very beautiful and worth the visit.
W.
Beautiful garden, fun for kids as well.
D.
January seems to be the month that there is a sculpture trail added to the already purchased permanent statuary.... Always an interesting wander around the installations. The gardens at any other time are varied and interesting with beautiful displays of perennial as well as annual flowering plants. The NZ Native section is a delight as is the Edible gardens. Well worth a few trips a year as well as a delightful setting for family's to picnic and play in. The cafe restaurant is always a busy place with a good variety of food and beverage for all.
R.
Great walk and lots to see
C.
Amazing variety of gardens. We are not gardeners, not do we have much knowledge of things Botanical, yet we loved it and learned so much. We spent about 2 1/2 hours there and still didn't see it all. And, don't miss the cafe. Fantastic.
K.
Amazing place. They have a wide variety of animals from all over the world. Their selection of New Zealand birds and wildlife is spectacular. Got to see the Kiwi keeper talk and it was very informative. Also got to see an alligator feeding! Definitely worth the visit!
S.
GREAT place for dogs, families with kids, and tourists. The Rose Garden was very extensive and the largest I've ever visited (and I've been to a place named "Park of Roses" known for their collection). The herb garden was extremely interesting with the explanations of all the different uses. All the signs were very informative and it was definately a good choice to visit during our vacation.
R.
Beautiful gardens to walk with plenty of seating space to sit and take in the fresh smells and views of the gardens. Perfect for a picnic and letting the kids run around to enjoy the grass and take in some of the gardens that are designed also for kids.
P.
Open to all - Yes
Opening time - always open
Why 5 - very rare do we find an open space with abundance of greeneries. There’s variety of plants, of all possible colours. If you are a sculpture lover then there’s biennial sculpture festival which runs from November till March. There’s one on going at the moment if you are interested.
Accessible to all
Cafe, toilets - yes
D.
Beautifully manicured gardens with lots to explore. There's sculptures, flowers, native plants & herb gardens etc..all set in a stunning location. There is plenty of parking, a cafe onsite, an information centre & you can also buy plants to take home.
D.
During my stay at Auckland, this is what a place in city free of cost and must visit. You can have your lunch packed or may have it in the cafe. Cafe will open till five pm only and garden also closes at the same time. Beautifully maintained and for me, it was nice day spend there. Special area is designated for the pets and you can play there on lush green garden with your kids and pets. Superb greens and off course it includes a walk to forest. My family liked it very much
A.
Great walk beautiful gardens. So clean plenty of parking. Amazing walk great for wedding venues and photography. Gardens are absolutely gorgeous in any season. Awesome for kids picnic or even romantic walks.
J.
It would have been amazing in the Spring time maybe Summer. It was quite chilly, and some of the blooms were gone like the roses.
There were portions of the gardens that were closed off which was disappointing.
We got turned around even with a map and missed some things.
It was free to get in. It was a walking place and there were signs about no skate boarding, biking, etc...
There were so many different things to see. Birds aplenty.
A.
Love this place I did a revisit and there are more gardens to explore. Awesome place to picnic and walk.
H.
Very humid busy and hot
Though a beautiful place for families. If you are going to go here. Plan you trip.
Vehicles are now parked too far away.
I have difficulty walking making it cumbersome if no plan in place
J.
Although the car parks were almost full when we arrived, the gardens didn't feel very busy. It's a huge area with easy walking paths and plenty to see. Love the inspirational garden planting and the children's areas.
J.
Spring blossoms very nice. Place is very tidy. Great for a picnic. However, for special occasions, parking space may not be enough. We have to park at the road opposite to the Garden. The signs said no scooter, but still saw kids riding scooters??
C.
This was my first visit to the gardens and they are simply beautiful. I was amazed at the number of volunteers keeping the gardens in such good condition. You can even take your dog for a walk in the gardens.
C.
Lovely large gardens ideal for a leisurely stroll with the family - like a mini hike without ever being too far from the car! lots of different plants within the garden sections. Make sure to check out the ponds and the very friendly eels and ducks!
R.
This is a fantastic place to wonder round, enjoy the sights, and have a day out in the fresh air. It has free parking and free entrance, a rarity in Auckland. A fully stocked cafe that serves everything from food and beverages to ice cream and wine (fully licenced premisis). So it is very convenient and fairly priced, a cup of coffee was $4.30. They have more trees and flowers than you can shake a stick at with the rose garden being a highlight. It is wheelchair friendly with allocated paths, of gravel sometimes, around the gardens. It has a kids play area with undercover lunch area for them. All in all a great few hours escape available here. Currently it is under refurbishment, so use the side entrance towards the library and be aware that most of the paths to the left of the visitor centre are unavailable .
J.
Wonderful way to spend a hot summer day in Auckland. Currently, there is an exterior art exhibition which is well presented.
J.
Really beautiful place. Well kept gardens and sweeping, nicely clipped lawns. Definitely a great place for an evening family walk, or perhaps a picnic lunch. Complete with a cafe, this is an idyllic getaway from the urban sprawl. You can even host birthday or Christmas parties here. Be sure to visit the Potter Children's Garden for all sorts of fun for the kids.
B.
This place is nice. Every year we have a Christmas gathering with the father in laws side of the family in honour of his mum and dad as they loved coming here for years.
T.
Lovely! Great for family outings. Check the weather before visiting, the gardens are pretty expansive, if rain catches you, there aren't much areas to shelter right away.
a.
We kinda visited at what seems to be an in between time. It was beautiful but I'm sure it's really spectacular to see the rose gardens in full bloom! Easy walking and nice picnic/recreation areas.
F.
Great park to chill around with plenty of Arts and flowers as well as theme gardens. It's free entry :) with water fountain to refill ur drinking water. Remember to respect d environment not to step on it and keep clean 😉 my favorite places once in free for visit ! After exploring still can chill in the cafe just near d entrance hall !
D.
Beautiful gardens. Great for kids and scooters/bikes as big wide paths.
Cafe nice but very over priced
M.
What a beautiful slice of heaven. We loved our stroll through the gardens. You can easily spend a whole day there with the family. It's pram and wheelchair friendly, the cafe offers a range of food and drinks and the gardens are very well maintained. We shall be back :-)
S.
Once you ignore the sounds of the motorway, you really get to enjoy the walk around the gardens. There's a cafe, small gallery, themed gardens, sculptures, walking paths and a pond. Great place to have a picnic.
A.
One of my favorite places in Auckland!
R.
Always a speculator showing anytime of the year, the work that has been done especially the past 5 years or so, has made a great Botanical garden into an amazing spectacle, really beautiful. This quite large area of gardens and bush is a huge asset to South Auckland and New Zealand, anyone can see why visitors from this country but also large numbers from overseas enjoy these world glass gardens. You can visit here many different times in a year and there's always something new to see and enjoy.
L.
The sculpture exhibition every summer is fabulous. Remember to get your vacc passport ready for your entry and wear mask in the garden.
J.
A huge botanic garden with free entry. Very nice view even in winter time. Some places were under maintenance that were not accessible. Nice front desk staff. They also provide guide info in Chinese.
The cactus and succulent are in huge size here. I was so shocked. Haha. A lot of birds and ducks live in botanic garden.
We added this stop at last minute on our way to Hobbiton and it's worthy doing it.
J.
A nice regional garden. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and need to relax somewhere.
L.
I was super impressed this this free garden in Aukland. The property is very large and well maintained, they allow dogs, the plants are marked with their name and where the are from and it is just beautiful. I also talked to one of the people inside before they closed and they were able to help me identify a tree that I was curious about. It was a great visit.
T.
fabulous place for family particular in the tine of pandemic.
tranquil for adults but educational for kids.
N.
It offers beautiful garden with some picnic spots, great for family having a picnic. The cafe is also great if you are too lazy to prepare your picnic basket from home
G.
Tranquil oasis lay hidden around each corner.
Explore the sculpture trail (limited time), and be sure to pack a picnic lunch.
G.
The botanic gardens is well laid out with plants from across the world. The African section and edible garden was my favourite. There are great sculptures to see and cool sculptures for kids to play on. Bring your dog! Look out for the eel in the ponds! The cherry blossoms are beautiful during October.
P.
We only usually use the dog park section. Plenty of room, places for the dogs to run in the open and places to swim.
S.
I love this place love to be among the trees and flowers and green grass. Would be 5 star if there has a nice play ground for kids or if kids has a place for them where they could at least play with their scooter.
I.
Perfect for a picnic. Excellent family day out so allow a few hours so you won't feel rushed. Lots to see. It can get hot in summer, so bring hats and sunscreen. Good place to visit in spring and autumn if you don't like the heat. Cafe is good too.
M.
The Auckland Botanic Gardens is always a lovely garden to visit, loads of flowers, walkways and ponds to visit. We brought bird feed to feed all the ducks around the park. Lots of space for couples, picnics, and schools to take the kids.
C.
So pretty. Cherry blossom season is so stunning. Sometimes parking is hard to find when its busy but there are a lot of side streets
M.
The dr said to walk so I'm walking, winter may not be the best time to visit the garden bloom wise but still plenty to see and do. Parking at the main entrance is a little tight but work is under way to resolve this. Several out prices to explore to explore and a whole kids section for adventure and exploring. Toilets are also available and a cafe at the main entrance. The paths are nice and wide but comfortable shoes are still recommended as you could clock up a few km of you wanted.
V.
Always changing with different plants appearing every day clean safe walk and great coffee
A.
Some plants were not cared for well and had signs for renovation.
Beautiful space and location for a walk.
R.
The location is very convenient. Staff are lovely and very knowledgeable. The gardens are nicely manicured too. There are lots of sculptures around the gardens. There was also couple of weddings and photos were being taken around the park
J.
Amazing place for all age groups. Heaven for photography. Got a lot to learn.
P.
Went a few years ago but only explored the first part of the garden and was s little disappointed but decided to have another go. Again first part near entrance was a little boring but the areas to the right and gojng further back near the lake were spectacular and this is autumn on a gloomy day I can only imagine what summer might be like, something very special I suspect. I tend to like detailed intricate gardens so Hamilton Gardens would still be my favorite but this I'd a close second. Highly recommended
J.
Real nice peaceful and relaxing place to go. Great wee entry area with loads of info for what is going on. Nice cafe, reasonable prices and menus, good food and drinks. Have been a number of times now, great to see the new areas after construction, some real nice sculptures there too. Really good calendar of events, nice to be there post lockdown.
P.
Its a nice place to walk and also get exercise by walking around while enjoying the beauty around....
L.
Beautiful place to go too I'm definitely going there again I like the Botanic Gardens very much.🙂
G.
cherry-blossom was awesome to see between spring-summer go and have fun take a selfies😁. enjoy the view. best time to go before 12 noon and enjoy the coffee shop on the top😉
S.
Excellent outdoor activity during these times. Always enjoy the sculptures too.
M.
Natural beautiful place to visit, large negative space, flowers and green landscape.

Im not a garden fan but making this a must do every season. Fabulous to see so many people and families enjoying the spring flowers.
The variety of plants in flower this year was awsome.
Great distraction during a cruel covid lockdown
A.
Gorgeous way to spend the day. So much to see and explore here. Beautifully laid out, lots of space to have a picnic or bring the kids to run around. There is also a cafe and library next to main visitor centre.

I enjoyed the view of the cherry blossom trees and other flowering plants. It’s so relaxing and calming.
I also like the walk from off street parking (due to lockdown).
T.
Great walk, it's a lot, lot bigger than I realised. Well worth a visit especially if you go and see the sculpture exhibits.
D.
A beautiful garden with large variety of plants. Didn’t get the chance to visit the whole because of the weather but whatever we saw it was amazing. A nice place for an evening jog or you can walk instead with a nature vibe.
B.
Great place to explore especially now there is new tracks that have opened since the last time I was there approximately 18 months ago
P.
Auckland Botanic Gardens is one of the must-dos if you come to visit Auckland City. It's conveniently located on Hill road, Manurewa, just short distant from Southern Motorway SH1. The best time to visit is in the summer, either in the morning or in the afternoon. I, personally, prefer spring or autumn as it's a bit cooler. But flowers thrive best in the summer!
L.
Need a break?? Then go for a walk 🚶♀️
M.
My favourite place all the time, I find peace and a part of my soul here at the gardens.
M.
Very big garden.. nice for all age people..
I have attended one event there denosor event was amazing for kids
B.
We took a walk but didn't get to see everything as it started to rain. The gardens are beautiful and well maintained. Lovely displays and plenty of information through out the gardens. Good pathways which meant it was easy to push our pram around.
L.
It was pretty nice. It was very relaxing being here. It's a perfect place to chill and have a picnic or bring your dog out for a walk.
S.
Gardens looking beautiful. Also have sculpture trail. Little disappointed with cafe as no smoothies available.
C.
The Auckland Botanic Gardens are a fantastic place for a quick stop or a long visit! If you're using Google Maps to navigate here, make sure to select the Visitors Centre. The gardens are free and showcase beautiful flowers and plants as well as informative signage.
B.
A short drive from city of Auckland. Visiting from Escondido, California, USA. BEAUTIFUL! Wonderful path ways.
So happy we made the drive out to visit.
A.
Magnolia trees are absolutely stunning around this time of the year, a must see if you are visiting botanic garden.
F.
Lovely place to visit and just walk around. You can walk from gardens into the bush tracks to Totara Park. Plenty of shade and seating around.
N.
Beautiful gardens and wonderful areas to explore and learn. We all loved the edible gardens as well as the children's garden. Lots of additional paths to meander off into. Will definitely be coming again soon.
J.
I love walking through the gorgeous rose garden, herb garden and they even have a dedicated children's garden as well. Highly recommended. Family friendly.
M.
The gardens are looking well maintained with much new planting that in coming months will fill garden beds with colour. So much variety around the entire park. The special sculptures are creative and inspiring.
A.

H.
It's one of the modest parks in auckland ..its always green and clean! extensive collection of rare plants, including, at one point, some different kinds of fruit trees, flowers, plants...
Most people come to have a relationship with nature!
D.
Lovely big park with smaller sections with different themes. Has a great edibles garden, orchard, kids garden and African garden. Cons: moderate motorway noise.
A.
It's such a cool place to walk around in, lots of beautiful flowers and things to see. My boy loves to find rocks that have been painted around the place, and spot all the different bugs and birds. The cafe is also really nice as well. We love stopping there for a hot chocolate and fluffy before we do our winter walk around the park ❤
C.
I've never seen such a huge botanic garden. The area is unbelievable huge. We spend like 7 hours there and didn't see everything. The whole park is super clean. There are benches everywhere.
The park itself has several areas like gondwana land, roses, herbs (you can try all of theme), a child playground area, a desert area, a jungle with a small river, etc.
There is also a visitor center with a restaurant and parking.
A.
Most enjoyable place to have a picnic lunch and walk in beauty and colour. Joined a major throng of others but plenty of room for all.
E.
Always love to go here always something new happening. Cafe very busy.. But nice to have your own picnic here
G.
This is one of my very favorite places in Auckland. Beautiful areas, a variety of gardens so obviously cared for, and the food at the cafe is very nice.
L.
Nice enough.
Great walkways.
Nice cafe.
I was hoping for more 'world-specific' gardens
Was not wowed, but had fun.
Granddad and the little one enjoyed the area on Pacific people.
R.
Time matters for a visit to this place - ramanan arampamoorthy
Gardens is spaces but some parts are too close to the roads and house, which doesn't give that secluded feeling. Its a nice walk and I think the time of the year matters alot. I went in Sep and there were some nice winter/early spring flowers. However, you would probably get a better experience in late spring and summer I suppose. For example I could not see any roses in rose garden. The entrance and cafe was nice and I saw people were playing with kites at some places which was unique. Most importantly, its free, so why not go and try. arampamoorthy ramanan
E.
You can drive in the gate before 8pm and you can actually stay as long as you want. The 6pm closing time is only for the information center, but the garden is accessible regardless as long as you get through the main gate by 8.
Nice place. Still under renovation but plenty of space to move around. We went during sunset and there was no crowd and the weather was so pleasant.
P.

L.
Nice enough, good parking, good coffee from the cafe! nice little walk but nothing spectacular. Be nice for a picnic on a sunny day
D.
Visited during a weekend to the Botanic Gardens in a sunny weather. It was quite busy, but still enjoyed my time. It was also the period of sculpture in the gardens, so there was more to see. A huge range of plants, also had themed areas such as the native area, rose garden area, herbs area, home vege garden area, and even has the worm composting area. Loved how some areas gives you ideas.
p.

S.
Beautiful space for walks or picnics
C.
Nice paths and great walks. Great hidden places for kids to enjoy and interact with nature.
D.
Called in here Wednesday 12 September for a bit of a walk. Love all the different types of plants here. Magnolias would have to be my favorite. But also love the Bush walks in Totara Park too. Cant wait till my next visit.
T.
Lovely place to visit. Great area for the children to play with puzzles just as you walk in, walk through the gardens, check out the worm farm by the edible garden side, wet your feet in the flowing water path, feed the ducks (buy a pack of duck food at reception), play in potters garden or search for the skulptures they usually have on display.
The cafe (Mako) onsite is delicious, fresh and reasonably priced but if you'd prefer to pack a lunch you're more than welcome too.
J.
Incredible park. The roses were stunning and the native section, including endangered species was very informative. A beautiful way to spend a day.
D.
Beautiful flowers plants trees, lots of free parking available, good place to take kids and dogs 🥰.
S.
Always enjoy a good walk around the gardens. It just seems like the wrong time to be going when there isnt much going on, and that maintenance work is happening and have to walk the long way. But part from that its always nice
D.
Beautiful place to walk. Great section to bring your dog. Beautiful plants even in the winter.
N.
It was my first time at the Gardens this morning with a dog I have been temporarily looking after.
Got there at 8.45am ish and seemed pretty quiet.
I asked a few lovely people where to go, just to be sure - a man with two beautiful big dogs (maybe staffy or mastiff or similar?) helped immensely, suggesting the best tracks to follow (if you see this - thank you!!)
The Gardens were awesome - set out similar to the Hamilton Gardens with different areas for different categories of plants
Definetly would visit again!
L.
A great place to come and relax or take a walk through the beautiful gardens
J.

K.
I can't believe that I can enjoy this beautiful place for free. New Zealand is blessed.
T.
Expansive areas of lawns with beautiful lake views. Wonderful place to spend some time before our flight leaves.
Take care on the entry as the front entrance is easy to miss and it is a bit of a lap to get back to it in the afternoon traffic.
A.
Nice place to spend time. Open and just off the motorway at Hill Road.
N.
It's a very beautiful garden filled with not only flowers but also herbs/vegetables which is so amazing.
Q.
Great place to walk around during weekend.
S.
Pack a drink bottle, sunscreen and maybe a few coins for the tour train ($2 adult & $1 child, at time of writing). Due to poor signage and so many paths you may end up retracing your steps a little to see everything, but if you have a significant chunk of time and don't mind meandering it is a wonderful / peaceful slice of Auckland where you can relax and just enjoy your surroundings. I saw many with picnic blankets and snacks sitting in the giant fields, so if you do the same don't forget to bring something with you to take your rubbish home! There is a cafe on site at the very beginning too :)
D.
Beautiful. The hard work and time put in is obvious. One of my favourite places to go for a walk and just enjoy the day taking it in.

Extensive gardens for walking but rides available
Sculpture walk added interest
J.
This place brings all the community together. Whether you're a tourist, a local going for a jog or a walk, a botanist who loves meandering amongst the plants, or an artist looking for inspiration, this place is an absolute treasure and well worth your time coming to visit. For horticultural students, this should be the place you visit at least once a fortnight for plant identification, especially if you are working with native NZ plants. The staff here, from the cafe, to the information booth, to the gardening staff, are all excellent. We have a world class facility here. Enjoy!
A.
Beautiful artworks. Nice flowers and nature. Lovely landscapes
D.
Came during the Chinese festival. Had a variety of cultural displays and activities. Felt very open and inclusive. The facilities are currently being upgraded with additional Parking and garden features, and you can really see the investment in the gardens continue to improve the experience.

We take our dog for a walk there a few times and week and she absolutely loves it! So many friendly dogs (and people) to interact with! A nice escape from reality wandering around enjoying the outdoors!

The gardens are well maintained, and even during busy times it does not look or feel busy at all due to its size.
Kids had a blast but be prepared to walk if you really want to see all that this garden has to offer. Be sure to take lots of water bottles as well especially if planning to walk through the forest.

K.
Auckland botanical gardens are beautiful - not quite as good as the ones in other NZ cities but that's to be expected as they're a lot newer (started out in Auckland domain and then moved). It's well worth the drive south to get to them. Bring a picnic. They've recently opened a new carpark so there's plenty of space now even on a hot summer day.
The events they do are great, I especially love Sculpture in the Gardens which happens every 2 years (not this year). The cafe is nice too.
N.
Lovely place, fantastic gardens and really beautiful walks. Loved the experience of walking through the vegetable gardens and learning about companion planting! Great learning experience for younger kids too.

We live in the area and regularly walk through these beautiful, we'll maintaining bed gardens.
There are many footpaths, plenty of grassed areas to Linux and seating throughout to rest and enjoy the gardens. We especially love the off leash area where you can let your dog mix and mingle with other dogs. It's a popular spot for dog owners.

Map available so you don't get lost or are looking for directions. All in all 10 out of 10. What caught my attention was the entrance and the gardens sculptures. Must go!

Sculpture in the park is on so much to see. Always a great place to walk and take the family. Most of the paths are accessible, just great for little ones with bikes.

Ample parking, tranquil forest walks, paved walkways for children to cycle. Certain areas are dog friendly, on leash and other places off leash. Beautiful rose garden, lush waterways and well maintained gardens. We loved our day out. Families welcome... bring your children, wheelchair friendly in most areas and heaps of benches around to relax and enjoy nature.
R.
Grandparents got to ride the accessibility bikes and made the whole trip a lot more enjoyable and memorable.

The Gardens are stunning and a wonderful way to get outside with family and friends.
Unfortunately the cafe leaves you wanting. The food is mediocre but what is totally disappointing is the length of time it takes to receive. It was an hour for us to get our meals, all were cabinet food just heated in the microwave. Overpriced for the service and food.
A.

The Gardens is a great, wide open space for everyone (and their dog) to roam. The new gardens are especially well done and provide something for everyone. Currently some of the water features are not running but the garden and its associated cafe is good to go.
