Been in different zoo in every country I visited but this zoo is one of best.. It’s a Beautiful Zoo, Management spend a lot of effort in making this zoo as one of the best zoo soon. There’s an on going expansion for the animals to have the best atmosphere as possible.. The zoo is really huge and has lots of space where you can do picnic with family. Animals has also great area to roam around. Even adult will surely enjoy their time there. It’s a perfect place family day out.

Love this Zoo. We got there Early so we got a good Park. Bookings are essential at the moment. Food was OK though they did seem a little stressed as there was a large amount of people. All up the Animals seem happy and healthy and you are more likely to see them out and about if you go early.

Amazing day to go the Zoo, wasn’t too sure of the parking so we parked a minute away on Motions Road which turned out to be the best considering how busy it was. We were lucky to see most of the animals but missed seeing some, probably as it was so hot for the animals. I would suggest booking a time (booking is essential in orange) before 3:30 as it would be hard to see the entire zoo before it closes at 5:30. Looking forward to seeing the new additions.

One of my favourite places in Auckland. The walk in aviaries are amazing as you are able to have some great close encounters with kaka and other native birds if you’re lucky. The flight shows that run daily are brilliant, with macaws and other birds flying directly over your head! You can tell how much the keepers care about the health and well-being of all the animals and other creatures in their care, none of the animals look bored or unwell. It’s worth buying an annual pass if you plan on visiting a couple of times throughout the year as it ends up being much cheaper (Auckland Zoo will extend the pass if there are lockdowns to ensure you get a full year of use)

Great place to spend time for full family specially kids will have fun, many great options to eat inside with quality food. Spare minimum 3-4 hours for visit. It’s kinda all day activity. Toilet, cafe, wheelchair access on site. Staff and volunteers are courteous and helpful. Parking maybe a challenge on weekends/public holidays, but we had found a spot after few minutes wait every time in parking area.

The best Zoo I‘ve ever been to! Thoughtful animal enclosures, free swinging orangutans 🦧 and sooo much to see and explore! This would be the perfect day activity if you are looking for something to do with family or friends in Auckland. The Keas were my absolute favourite, and we even spotted a Kiwi bird!

It's one of the best zoo I have ever seen. Auckland Zoo is spread in a very huge area. And I can see almost all the animals I have heard and seen on television. Also there are many reptiles, birds and insects like spiders, skinks, etc. We can see many species of monkeys from the bigger ones like baboons and black headed to the tiny ones. The tiny ones are really tiny like they can fit in our hands. Though currently there are some renovations going on because of that I couldn't see many animals and birds. But after couple of months we can see more good looking and bigger zoo with more animals 😍😍

Over 100 species present here. Great for family Day puts . Best time to visit during cool , claudy days . Animals doesn't come out during too hot or cold times .

Cool! Better to have annual pass. Hot summer make animals sleep. Cone to see them in cooler weather.

Cute animals , great space . Good to visit with family , kids and friends . Can spend half day here at least.

Had an ok day here late February celebrating my grandsons 2nd birthday. A bit sad that the animals don't get much interaction time like before COVID days when you could feed the giraffes, or see the cheetah and elephant walking around. However it will look amazing once all the new attractions are completed.

Had great fun exploring the different routes throughout the zoo. Kids enjoyed the different animals and their unique enclosures. Spacious with plenty of seats around for a quick rest. Cafe and souvenir shop onsite. Ensure you have comfortable walking shoes on and enjoy the day with curious animals. Good family day out.

It is home to the largest collection of native and exotic animals in New Zealand, set in 17 hectares of lush parkland. The annual ticket is fantastic to access anytime with low cost. I bought it without hesitation. It let me access Auckland Zoo every day in one year. It is home to at least 144 different species, over 1400 animals and has the largest diversity of wildlife in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Such cute animals here. Best for family picnic . Kids would love it . Avoid coming in rains .

During Red Covid restrictions you'll need a vaccine passport and facemask. Bookings are required online prior to turning up. Currently the indoor areas are closed to reduce transmission however this is a mostly outdoor zoo so it doesn't take much away from the place. Some cafes are open. Enjoyed it hugely. Looks like some nice development going into it to keep it up to a high standard and a nice degree of conservation consideration to the way the zoo is run.

Awesome place for the kids, still under construction but will be ready in Autumn!! Can’t wait to see the tigers in their new habitat :)

The animals are great. Can't wait for the tigers and crocodiles to come through next year. I had an unusual experience with the admissions lady who was slightly rude about me buying a student ticket despite having ID and proof. I don't think it was her place to question valid ID. Had a good day otherwise but maybe she should learn to be a little less judgey. Food items are overpriced at Te Puna Cafe so take your own picnic if you want.

Nice atmosphere for a family environment, can take your pram and wheel chair. you can get free wheel chair. $15 for a electric scooter book in advance, Some construction is happening and some of area are closed (kiwi sections...etc) keepers talk is on hold due to covid. Cafes open. generally good for a family reunion.

I was really impressed with Auckland Zoo. It is very well laid out and is really good value for a family of four. The zoo has quite a lot of areas under construction at the moment and I look forward to coming back once everything is finished.

The zoo's makeover is stunning! Looks amazing and really designed with childhood in mind. Lots of jungle to wander through, little streams to cross and a shady spot and a toilet on everything path. It's a child/ big kids dream. There is even a water play feature at the lunch spot so your restless toddler can keep busy while you snack. Oh yeah and the animals are so Wonderful, but that's to be expected. Definitely worth a visit especially if it's been a few years since you last went.

Best we have in NZ, and frequently has zones being refurbished and/or improved. During covid there is a one way system the zoo has mapped out to get the most of the exhibits that are available whilst avoiding crowding (except for Cafe seating by the elephant enclosure). We took 5 children between the ages of 1 and 13 and it was still enjoyable for all of them. Wear comfortable walking shoes, take a hat, lather on that sunscreen and carry water. A good way to spend a couple of hours!

Love this place, go everytime we are in Auckland. There is so much to see at a reasonable price. Take your food and drinks and stay the whole day.

One of the nicer zoos I've visited around the world! Feels a bit more humane, well set out, nice areas for the animals. Only giving 4 stars as a lot of the enclosures were empty / closed

I can go every week just to see the animals playing with the nature around. The zoo is well designed and i cant wait for south east asia one to be opened

Very quiet at the moment but wonderful to see the orangutans high up in their rope area while we drank coffee in the new cafe. We said goodbye to the elephants, off soon to Australia and hello to the tiny baby Galapagos turtles. A baby orangutan is due soon 😘 A lovely lovely day.

A good and fun place to visit for family with kids.

Mew exhibits are amazing. Staff and volunteers are friendly and helpful. Food isn't too overpriced to be honest, particularly the kids meals. Animals really seem to be happy as well.

There aren't many animals to see. no tiger, no bear, no male lion, no KiwiBird. Long paths to get to a section and then you see some small cages. Also, constructions going on with some sections are closed. All in all, a good experience which could be better: for example, allocate less area to restaurant and playground, and more areas to animals, bring more animals, and please update on your website which sections are under construction and closed. The zoo is still awesome even after all this time. They are doing major upgrades for the tigers which look awesome. All the enclosures look really nice and the zoo itself is a lovely walk around. Our daughter is two and had an amazing time she was entertained for hours , easy day out.

What an excellent zoo! They have some of the best access and designed enclosures I've seen. Lots of unique animals, with possibly the Galapagos tortoise being my favorite. So immense! Fairly easy to navigate with signage at key places. Three options of places to get food that were open the entire time, with food above par in quality. The prices were merely high and not exorbitant like I've seen at other zoos. Went with two young children and there was plenty to keep them engaged throughout the entire day at the zoo. Toilets were clean and well placed to never be too far to the next one. Staff and volunteers were friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend for an outing if you're visiting Auckland and into animals.

Brilliant. The new lionesses and some.new baby tamarins were the highlights. Really comfortable seeing how well run the vaccine pass check etc were run. The team were great.

Easily on par with some of the best zoos in the world in terms of layout, viewing platforms and enclosure designs. Very modern with continuous improvements being made. Stroller and wheel chair friendly. Children friendly. Water bottle fill stations. Informative zoo keepers. Free parking. Number of cafes and toilets. Easy 2-3 hour outing. Bring good walking shoes, a sun hat and water bottle in summer.

Such a great day out. Always love seeing all the animals. With COVID-19 there have been some changes to layout and some parts are closed off but still plenty to see and do.

Liked it. Has been a few years since I've been here. Can't wait for the new enclosures to open. Sad to see that some of the enclosures had no animals with only one with an explanation. The Orangutans new enclosure is amazing and great to see them use it on our visit.

New tiger enclosure being built looks amazing - can't wait til it opens soon. The baboons area was also really cool how they can climb up the cables outside their enclosure and go round the zoo from above.

Exceptional day out. Very quiet despite the long weekend. Staff very professional and well organised. Lots of animals to see at the moment despite their being a fair degree of construction. Love the set up in so far as there is a clear direction and path to follow which makes it easy to cover all the ground and see everything.

I'm sorry to say, it was dissapointing because of all the work which is being done. I am very pleased they are upgrading the zoo for the animals! I don't mind paying full price but the zoo should inform people before they visit. Was lovely seeing the animals and the enclosures were very good. Staff were all nice and helpful. We still enjoyed the day :))

Loved it. Visited with family.... The visitor hosts so helpful.. Some of the animals were sheltering out of the heat. Great day at the Zoo. Bought stuff from the gift shop.New enclosures still being finalized

Usually a great experience! (Make sure you bring a hat/fluids in summer as it gets super hot). The new Cafe Te Puna is great! Has a wide variety of food to choose from! The enclosures keep updating which is awesome to look forward to but meant we really did not see many animals. Will come again at the end of the year to see the changes and hopefully see all of the animals we missed 🙏

Auckland Zoo is a 16.35-hectare (40-acre) zoological garden in Auckland, New Zealand, situated next to Western Springs park not far from Auckland's central business district. You can bring your own food for a picnic and there are plenty of beautiful areas to sit and eat. Auckland Zoo also has a cafe, and the food there was delicious. My best experience going to zoos is on cooler (not cold) and cloudy (not stormy) days. The combination of slightly colder weather means most animals are still out but are more active.

What an amazing place. We will 100% be going back. We got there a little later in the day so had to rush half the zoo. Make sure you get their early in the day so you can take your time at each exhibit.

Lots of new exhibits under construction, so many animals currently not on display. Red light restrictions mean very limited number of visitors, which makes viewing exhibits easier.

A wonderful experience. They have planned the layout really well, it's roughly 5 sections and should take you a comfortable 2 hrs to complete. It's roughly 3.5 km of walk, fairly straightforward flat road. If you prefer stopping and enjoying certain few animals or birds then account for at least 3 hrs. I am assuming you will stop for a quick bite in the middle too, they have 3 restaurants in there, the elephant restaurant is definitely worth trying.

The best zoo I've been to in over 10 years. The first zoo I've been to where the animals were in pristine condition, looked healthy and weren't depressed. A huge congrats to the team at Auckland Zoo !!!!

Great place. The new enclosures are a treat. Took my small family there, and kids love it. Also the food is reasonable and yum.

very nice zoo which is a treat for kids and grown ups, I did feel as though there were lesser animals on display but then again covid did stuff up alot of things and it is totally understandable! clean utilities and nice ice cream & food.

Had the best time. Although it was raining, Auckland Zoo provided all the children with raincoats. Excellent service. Heaps to see and learn. Very educational and so much fun!! Go check it out.

I have always loved visiting the zoo but this time around we visited the zoo at night and it was amazing! Such a different experience almost surreal and we loved the Keeper Talks, feeding times etc. Always worthwhile visiting and contributing. The many cafe's had such nice foods and bites for in-between and the zoo shop offered many different beautiful things and memorabilia. There are currently work sites for expansions going on but what I loved about it is how transparent and open they are about the project happening at the zoo. The keepers have been super friendly and helpful as well - knowing my clumsy self if I ever get lost at least I can rest assure knowing that I will be helped at any time. My favourite part was the Bird Training - where they showed us different birds in different sizes and their adorable but impressing talents!

The staff throughout the Zoo were very lovely and very sensitive to the animals. Mobility scooter was great too thank you for the pleasant day!! Email in advance to book or hire there prams, umbrella or the Mobility scooter they are free at the moment. You have to pre pay your tickets on line and there are limited spaces each 10 -15 minutes. I was late but they held the scooter and there were no lines.

Felt sorry for many of the animals in smallish enclosures. The zoo staff very friendly and helpful. Construction under way, will get better for the animals. Still much better then the earlier years. Monday was a good day to go, small reasonable numbers

I'll be great when it's finished but the last 3 times we've been it's just been under a huge amount of construction & its really killing the experience. Also the limited number with COVID made it feel a bit dead. It didn't have a lively vibe.

I have mixed feelings about zoos. I don't like caged or space restricted animals or birds as they should be in their natural environment but I realize some of these animals probably wouldn't survive in the wild. It is fascinating to be able to get up so close in complete safety. The zoo has gone to a lot of effort and expense to make this an enjoyable place for the public and the animals and more areas due to open later in 2022.

Haven't been to the zoo for so long and was so excited to go but I felt quite let down once there. There is hardly any animals that I remember being there. There is alot of construction going on, maybe too much, because it felt very messy. Had (an expensive) lunch at the cafe near the monkey enclosure and the food which should've been hot (pizza and ribs) was cold...I kinda think Hamilton zoo is better tbh.

Loved it, animals out and seemed happy. Lots of construction to make awesome new enclosures which is cool.

Its always neat place and great with all the volunteers but its def a big walk ....they do have pushchairs n motorized bikes which I should of got lol ....still my fav place .... the zoo shop should have afterpay or zip for payments to buy alot more .... loved the zoo

Always great, such a good Zoo and the continental layout is inspired. I highly recommend planning your visit around catching a few keeper talks. Despite the construction the Zoo isn't lacking in anything. The only downfall is the quality and price of the food at the Te Puna Cafe, part of the earnings goes to the zoo hence the price but the quality needs to be much better. I strongly suggest taking a packed lunch. I also recommend you have a good look around the shop on the way out, it's got such good variety, something for everyone.

Lots of different habitats and cute animals to look at! Loved the aotearoa section especially with my favorite Saddleback bird. Highly recommend! Looking forward to what they have in store after they finish construction! :D

Love the zoo. We’ve had annual passes for the last 18 months, so handy to entertain kids, fantastic enclosures (s as good s you can ask for from a zoo) good facilities, friendly staff.... couldn’t ask for more. Even pre-kids I’ve taken people visiting NZ here for a great day out.

Decent zoo. Huge and lots of animals to see. However, we couldn't see any lions since it was under construction.

Busy day for Aucklanders. Perfect day for the zoo. Loved the new Orangotan home and new eating places.

I didn’t even take much photos because we were so busy looking at those beautiful animals! An almost complete zoo - no lions when we visited… Unfortunately we missed some animals because it was almost closing time as well, so sad.

Very very cute and very nice. There are many species of animals and the store at the exit has some beautiful products to buy. The quality of the puppets is really high. Highly recommended for families with small children, bars and shows inside.

It was a great day for majority of the animal's to be out when we actually were there, took quite a few great pictures too. Not bad for my first time though. Amazing staff. Animal's were Lovely and entertaining.

Great price for value. Love they are doing up the place. Although the animals aren't really too exciting since they just sit there all day, the walk around the park is really good and lots to see

Beautiful gardens but still lots of work going on so many areas of the zoo closed. It will be brilliant when they finish. Covid precautions exemplary.

Normally this is a 5* experience. Currently has significant rebuilding activity so several areas are closed. Still worth a visit. Have lunch at the main cafe. Food far better than expected. Good value with ok parking. Good extra carpark just passed the main one.

This is not the traditional zoo we have seen in other countries. There are no concrete prison-like iron cages. All the animals live happily and freely in the beautiful nature. We saw lots of them today that we only learned from books and you could even interact with some of them closely. It was a lovely day especially with your kids together. We will surely be back again when the weather gets warmer.

Immersive and new experiences around each corner. Amazing habitats and pretty engaging for people as well. Cafe was clean and busy but enjoyable.

Perfect place for a family day out. My kids enjoyed this zoo!!! One of the best and well planned lay out I have been, with different animals that I actually never thought even existed. 🤣 The animals seemed to be well taken cared, loved how spacious it is for them. Highly recommended! Don't forget your sunscreen and hats with you! Also, there's another cafe on the back part (old elephant house), ive seen people are all lining up at te puna cafe!

Such a great Zoo There's a real sense of animal conservation, respect and genuine care. All the critters have lovely spaces to spend their days with privacy and comfortable shelters, considering it is a zoo. There are extensive educational chats throughout the day and loads of interactive learning as you move about the areas. I'm from Wellington so this place is like a Hilton Hotel in comparison. I truly feel that the animals at Auckland Zoo are well loved and cared for. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

GREAT felt like I was 10yrs old. No cages have improved the experience. My 2 grandchdren Girl 13 Boy11 loved it. For all ages ❤❤❤❤💯

They are sorting out alot there, still a great place for the monkeys I mean kids. Take your own food you're go broke if you got more than 2 kids . But massive day out for them.

The new exhibits are awesome. You can actually see the animals this time & not just their habitat. More interaction with the animals. An awesome day out with family.

I booked a visit online due to level 2 covid which was easy & fast. Greeted at the entrance and scanned in with no hassles. Had a great visit to the zoo, can not wait for the lion enclosure to be completed.

Really enjoyed my afternoon at the Auckland Zoo. There is alot to see and will be going back to see the Tigers. Four Stars

Auckland zoo has some great new features, revamped cafe dining area, more bird enclosures, a dome activity room area good to visit on the way out, to unwind and relax while the kids continue having fun before you leave. Always packed during school holidays had to park further around the back roads. So it pays to arrive early if you want a good park, around 9am or earlier? Perhaps have brekky ready on the go to eat in the car on early arrival and a packed lunch with snacks, drinks and everything ready the night before. Would have been nice if there was a back entrance ticket booth especially for older people who end up parking further away with grandkids. Prices and family passes are great. Cheaper than the movies, rainbows end, Butterfly creek and Chipmunks.

Lovely pleasant walkabout at the zoo. If you want to spend 3 hours or so leisurely walking around the zoo looking at all the different animals, birdlife and species then this is the best place! Clean and functions well... Good job!

Incredible range of lovely animals. Relaxing and nice as always. Animals obviously are very well taken care of by the fab team. Also so excited to see the new expansion under construction! Can't wait to visit again x

As a member of the Furry Community ®, I found their "collection" of animals very... entertaining ;) It was my step brothers birthday party! Was so glad their staff celebrated with us!!! <3 I RECOMMEND!!

Lots of the zoo is under construction but still very enjoyable time.If your thinking of going and don't have a massive budget I'd wait until the construction has finished because it will be worth the wait

The creatures in the Auckland Zoo are magnificent. You can tell they are very well taken care of. The staff are incredibly friendly and well informed. I was slightly disappointed at the fact that the Kiwi house was closed due to the Level 2.5 Lockdown but all in all it was a very good experience.

OK visit. Can't see much of animals because of warm weather. Was much better couple of years ago but still enjoying atleast something after lockdown 🙄🙄🙄

I haven't been to the zoo in maybe 15 years, but what a great place! There's a lot of upgrade work going on right now, but still plenty to see & it'll be fantastic once it's all finished. Could probably use more parking out front, but otherwise a great family day out.

This is a very pleasant day out for the family, and the exhibits are very engaging for the kids. There s a nice cafe for a break and very friendly staff throughout the zoo.

Auckland Zoo is really awesome place, kids enjoy a lot. Ticket price has been dropped from $28 to $24. Enjoy the summer with friends, family and kids. Elephants, Lion, Giraffe, Rhino, Zebras are the main attractions including other animals. Highly recommend to visit Auckland Zoo.

Upgrading is progressing but still a big disruption. Baby flamingo was so cute. The elephants won't be leaving until Autumn and put on a great show of sunblocking last weekend It was lovely as visitor numbers are being limited.

Always fun with friends. Also a really good experience for children. You can tell the animals are well looked after.

Always a good place to visit no matter how old you are. There was lots of unfinshed enclosures due to COVID but its starting to look fantastic and more like a world class zoo.

Great place if you like watching animals. All are looking healthy. Great for kids too. Also at the playground. Yummy French fries for lunch, and an ice cream.

There is a lot of displays "coming soon" but what was there was awesome. Food and drinks were way over priced! Next time will bring my own water and nibbles

Once in a blue moon visit with the last visit being 6 years ago and back then I was impressed, this year I was more impressed. It is good to see that staff are ensuring the welfare of animals is improved upon year by year and judging by the enclosures attempting to maintain a natural habitat as much as possible for these amazing creatures. Also taking away the walls make it a more seemingly interactive and close up experience with some of the enclosures. The most impressive is the Orangutan playground which is about 20+ metres high which we saw these amazing creatures traverse even above our path with nothing between them and the public below. Absolutely amazing and a must see. I don't mind paying the entrance fee knowing that it is to improve their lives and the quality of their habitat. It was very busy having got there at 9am with the car park being 80% full and good to see parents with their kids. The Zoo staff are doing a great job and I'm sure they love the animals here. A very educational experience for the public hoping we all become aware that we are not the only inhabitants of this planet and that we must share this home a become more responsible and mindful of their welfare too.

LOVE the zoo. Annual pass is worth its weight in gold, we have been known to come more than once a week. All the upgrades are cool, cant wait for the dome!! Volunteers are all amazing, very friendly. Cost of coffee and ice cream are good, food is a little pricey so we take a picnic and just get treats.

The Auckland Zoo is a great zoo. Very fun for the wee ones with lots of different animals for them to look at. The new Orangutan and Siamang exhibit is spectacular. The cafe inside is delicious and reasonably priced. Love it.

Always a great outing with the kids. We are loving the new developments! Allow for at least 3 hours, bring water and sunblock.

Visit yesterday late afternoon around 4pm maybe not the best time, animals looked over it lol well the animals we did get too see, let alone the construction taking place so we wernt to sure if we wer looking at a construction site or to visit animalzzz. Elephant was put away, no lion or baboon no serval so hence the 2 star! But have to give bonus star/Credit to the lovely lady that served us thank u!

Such an amazing conservation-led zoo. Great habitats for the animals. Very informative staff and volunteers, with regular talks throughout the day. What a great day out and very good value. Even the food is priced well and is very tasty, so no need to bring your own food.

Love all the trees and plants. Beautiful. Was a bit disappointed that there were not many animals to see. Was a great day anyway.

It's ok not much variety of species and the animals are very far compared to Wellington zoo where you get quite near. I went on an overcast day in summer and didn't catch a glimpse of cheetah, tiger or lion as all were relaxing in den with pina colada probably.

All in all a very good place to go to see and learn about these little creatures! Lovely to see the animals have enclosures that are actually suitable for them as not many zoos pay enough attention to that. Loved seeing the volunteers walk around and chat to people and tell little fun facts about the animals too.

What an awesome experience, very open and you can clearly see the animals are well cared for. The staff and zoo keepers are very passionate and helpful. Well priced at only $24 per person or $19 for a student. Can happily spend 3 hours here walking around. Cafe was yummy and not over priced. The zoo is a nonprofit so admission also goes straight back to helping the animals. Definitely worth a vist for all animal lovers.

Love this place. Spent nearly 4 hours wandering around it and still felt I could've stayed longer. Some amazing things to come with the new ape/monkey enclosures. And a few new eateries opened too. Well worth a visit for locals and not so locals.

Great family afternoon at the Zoo. Loads of new changes to keep things fresh. Looking forward to the proposed development. Much more than just animals, landscaping and buildings are also well presented, staff doing talks about the exhibits and animals was a treat also. Well done Auckland Zoo.👍👍

I thought the zoo was small, but I was surprised that it was bigger than I thought. I think I watched it for more than 2 hours. There were so many New Zealand birds and there were a lot of things to see in animals! Especially, it would be very interesting if young children go here.I'm really upset I didn't see the kiwi bird, but I'm going to visit it again next time. Thank you for making a wonderful day🤛🏻✨

Came on a Saturday when animals were going through training. Was very entertaining and we'll kept facility despite the construction. Friendly wonderful staff. Would definitely visit again.

The zoo is a great place to have fun with the kids. The space is very good. I think that could have more different species of animals, but they keep the animals in a good environment. The plants and rivers around get a good idea of forest. The bird space is a good idea to keep them in a way of freedown.

Absolutely love the new extension!!! We went in the afternoon and there were tons of carparks and it was nice and quiet compared to the morning rush.

My kind of excellent day out. Meandering "around the world" -from Africa to South America and closer to home in Oz and S E Asia- the habitats are well designed and the creatures well cared for. Plenty of info is displayed and viewing opportunities have been well catered to. Great to be able to help conservation efforts by supporting the Zoo.

The Auckland Zoo is a must-do experience if you're in town. Visited for the first time in several years and spent five hours there. We could have easily zipped through quicker but we doubled back to have another look at the big cats. They make great use of the space and I'm looking forward to visiting again once the renovations are finished. I think my highlight was the amount of aviaries within the zoo. You're no longer looking at birds behind a wall of glass or wire, but walking amongst them. It's not often that you hear the swoosh of endangered birds, such as Kākā and Orange-fronted Kākāriki, flying past your head! I also really liked the new Orangutan enclosure, although that's probably not the right word as there are long ropes that allow them to climb overhead! Definitely want to get my hands on a yearly pass to support the important conservation work they do.

The Zoo is under reconstruction and so some animals like the seal and the tigers weren't available to see but all the other animals birds and insects were out to amuse our kids. The staff are always very helpful. Plenty of clean toilets around the park. There's a big Cafe near the playground which serves delicious food and beverages. They have easy to read maps and also carts if u wish to ride around the park. Theres a kidzone aswell I think where they have pigs and sheep there. They have a souvenir store and a photo booth where u can have your picture taken and ready for you to take home at the end of your day with a price. I would suggest bringing a packed lunch as the food at the Cafe is expensive. They do however have filtered water tlaround the park and also a for filling your water bottle up.

First time back after 17 years, and had a great time with the family. Zoo also appears to be working on an expansion so it's only going to get better.

It is always a pleasure visiting the Auckland Zoo. The animals always look to have a high standard of care, the different experiences are informative and exciting to watch. My daughter just loves trips to the zoo and saying hello to all the animals.

Always a fun day when visiting Auckland zoo, especially if you can get there on a "not so busy day". The upgrades at the zoo appear to be going well, very excited to see the end result. The highlight of my last visit was watching the bird training with the keepers and finally getting a close look at the cheetahs! (Cats big or small sleep so often, im usually not lucky enough to get a good look at them). Fantastic job auckland zoo and all of its staff.

Awesome Zoo with a great trail to follow. Great straff and facilities. However, as we were there they were rebuilding the SEA part of the zoo which looked pretty good on the pictures, just gotta see how it turns out. Most important yes you will get to see the kiwi birds at the night time facility!

So much has changed since we were there last, you really need the whole day to check out the new homes for a number of the animals but it's wonderful.

Had a wonderful day with the family visiting the Auckland Zoo! There are so many animals to see here, they are all well cared for and seem very happy in their well maintained enclosures. I recommend coming in early so you can watch all of the feeding times throughout the day. The restaurants and bathrooms are well located and serve pretty good hotdogs, chips and burgers.

It was a great day when visiting the zoo - the weather was awesome. I was up in Auckland visiting and had some time to spare. I was quite impressed with the zoo and the variety of animals. It's well laid out and a nice walk to visit the various enclosures. I thought it was exceptional being able to hire mobility scooters for people that require them - it's a great option - there is quite a walk ahead. I spent about 4-5 hours walking around, watching the various shows and taking photos of the animals. A great way to spend the day.

Great place with adorable animals - was great to be back here. The downsides at the moment however are that some places are closed due to Covid, with only one way access in some sections, as well as the current ongoing construction. Besides that, lovely place ❤️

Most amazing, friendly and knowledgable Zoo o have ever been too. Even the Volunteer helpers were full of passion and knowledge. The conservation that they are doing is so very vital bot just for New Zealand but for the World! Even if you never get around to going I would urge you to donate to them! Just gonna dump all my photos and vids and let you take it from there.

Haven't been to the zoo since I was a kid, some 50yrs ago. I'm not a fan of zoos for obvious reasons. My grand kids want to go so we went. I was pleasantly surprised. Everything was done extremely well. Food a little expensive but all for a good cause. Kids love the day. Great assortment of animals kept in a humane way. Very pleasing.

Good and bad. Ongoing improvements taking shape. Some animals well catered for, others in sub optimal enclosures. Kids enjoyed regardless.

The zoo is well maintained and has variety of animals to watch. It takes like 4 hours to watch everything in the zoo. Sessions hosted are very informative.

Great family day out. As a Brit, of course I loved the Kiwi house. Primates were playful and fun to watch. A massive array of animals to observe and appreciate set in beautiful surroundings. Being able to book a Mobility scooter for a family member in need was a nice touch.

Went to theAuckland Zoo and spent a glorious, fun 4 hours there. Sadly not many exhibits, Keeper Talks etc are operating at the moment due to Covid-19, but the zoo is the efforts to go and enjoy.

Quite a good zoo. Had a learning experience and enjoyed watching animals though most of them were asleep.

Although under construction, loads of animals out & about on the zoo late night's $15 per person from 4pm to 8 pm. The animal keepers are around & more than happy to answer any questions that you may have its extremely informative. Highly recommended.

The kids and l had a wonderful time exploring the Zoo. Even in the rain, there was plenty of shelter and indoor activities for the kids. We're certainly getting good use out of our annual passes.

Great place and good diversity. some enclosers seem small for the animals, but some are quite spacious. Has good places to rest and have food.

Went to Zoo only to find that we had to book. There were no times available so we decided to catch the tram to motat. But the tram driver refused us entry. We had to walk to motat buy a ticket online to look 5hrough motet and catch the tram back. It is ridiculous that you can get off the train at the zoo but cannot board the train at the zoo. The signage is poor, there was no information at the station and the tram driver was more focused on the arbitrary rules than using his common sense.

Great day at Auckland Zoo! The new attractions for tigers and the orangutans promise to be an amazing addition too. It was very busy due to it being school holidays but I would recommend staying for the last few hours of the day as it really emptied out and I had many of the exhibits to myself.

Come before 9:30, can easily find carpark. New cafe in zoo was perfect, nice environment. Beautiful food. Friendly service. Must try

Such a wonderful place to take your kids and catch up with friends and family. My daughter loves the zoo. We come here weekly, sometimes multiple times per week. In comparison to zoos I've visited overseas, the Auckland Zoo is right up there. It'll be amazing when all the construction is complete.

Great fun for kids and ocean of knowledge for adults (if u give a damn). Some part of zoo is under construction. Atleast need 4-5 hours to see it all. Managed to catch Zoo keepers talk which was worth a listen. Lion though was too lazy and only got a glimpse for few seconds when both decided to lie down 😊

I liked this zoo, it is small, but it is very beautiful, it has playgrounds, it is very clean, they sell food near the Playground, the animals have a lot of space, the volunteers and zookeepers interact with the visitors when it comes to feeding the animals, I really enjoyed it, put on blocker and get ready to walk. You can learn a lot from New Zealand.

Wow. I love animals. 😍 I loved the experience that I got in this Zoo. Actually, it is the best zoo experience I have ever had. Even though, animal is in protected area, but it feels like it is near just like in forest. They are taking care of animals a lot. Salute to the people who are maintaining this zoo and taking care of animals.

Great zoo with lots of various animals. They have areas designed with themes that suit the animals natural habitat. Make sure you have a hat, sunscreen and comfortable footwear as it's a long walk to cover all the areas. Buy your tickets online so you don't have to get stuck in the queue.

Auckland Zoo is totally awesome ! It has a great collection of animals and I love the design and layout. Its easy to navigate and so beautiful. It’s definitely worth visiting especially if you have little kids. They have so much fun here. The place also has some cafes in case you want to grab a bite or rest up for a bit. This place is highly recommended.

Really good zoo. The animals are very well taken care of and their welfare seems to be a priority. Quite a number of interesting animals that we have not seen before such as the Tasmanian Devil, Kiwi and varieties of local birds.

It’s great to see all the animals areas are clean and spacious. And you can tell the people working there love it. The free zoo talks were fun too! Definitely one of the better and environmentally friendly zoos.

I love a zoo as much as anyone and this was a great experience. Not only are the animals amazing but it's fantastic to see the zoo so involved in conservation and research. I'll be extremely happy to return when they have completed the new exhibit!

One of my favorite places cuz I love animals. But one thing I might say they should have canteens inside the zoo as well or a small restaurant so that people don't have to starve like roaming you get so tired, you have to sit and eat as well. So they should have some some sorta place to sit n relax while roaming too hard. Otherwise the zoo is favorite ♥️

Auckland Zoo is always wonderful to visit. Coming from Hamilton, it really highlights how great this Zoo is. While I believe Hamilton Zoo is great for its size and the renovations happening there will make it an amazing, the Auckland Zoo is truly world class and facilities are great too. Absolutely amazing zoo, animals are visibly happy, with no stereotypic behaviour witnessed over a 5 hour day. Enclosures are very adequate in size, for some anomals even luxurious compared to many other popular zoos. Very happy with the standards of care, level of commitment and enthusiasm from the staff and also the happiness and health of the animals.

Went with a class of 5 year olds who thoroughly enjoyed it. Some areas are under construction at the moment but there is still a lot to see. We had an educational session with one of the staff and he was very good with kids and made learning fun for them. As expected with attractions like these, food is expensive so, if you don't mind carrying it around with you, pack lunch.

I really enjoyed my visit to the zoo (a really big one!) we get lost, almost don’t finish it. But really enjoy noticing that a lot of animals over here have baby’s or are taking care of their eggs which I haven’t see on any other zoo in the world. The insect exposition was stunning and amazing and the coffe and snacks were really good. Don’t forget to bring your student ID to get a discount!!

Very good hygiene, has a lot of space for animals and also for visitors. An amazing place, they have a kiwi bird and you can see it. Highly recommended to make small stops and eat a rich in the Paradores inside. There is also room for children to play and run

Amazing Beautiful animals in safe enclosures, cafes nicely spaced with higher prices than normal to help them fund the zoo to its best and water ready available in spaced spots. Come with snacks enough to keep you walking. 😜😅 Bring a pram for the little ones.

Enjoyed to see a lot of animals there. All the explanations are so informative to know more about unique animals there. And I like Emu the best amongst all of them. A bit scary looking, but its eyes are so adorable.

Really helpful staff and the animals were amazing. Will be better when the South Asia part is completed but still a great day out. The food at the old elephant house restaurant was a bit more pricey but worth the money and was very high quality.

When they have finished the new exhibits it will be great, andat the moment there's no hippos and no tigers. The elephant talk was interesting, the lions were sleeping so that was a bit boring too.

Lovely place. The animals seem pretty well maintained. The walk around the park is quite good and it sort of put everything in order. However, I think they could use better signage and instruction, cause I’ve walked past too many (seemingly) empty parks not knowing what I’ve missed. But all in all, a pretty worthy experience. And I saw kiwis!!!!!

This is the first time I have seen a zoo so big and it has amazing artificial ecosystems for the animals. I hate the concept of being caged but this was not exactly a depressing cage rather it felt like artificial ecosystem which mimics natural ecosystems, so that these endangered animals get help and the same time feel home. Hopefully If they increase in population, they can be transferred back to their natural habitats.

My family and I bought annual passes here at the beginning of the year, extremely good value. We have visited now so far in excess of ten times. Everytime we visit we spot more and more, my daughter loves coming here. Looking forward to the new area opening up, lots of fun to be had in a nice safe clean environment. Friendly and helpful staff are very knowledgeable with regards to the animals.

Fabulous for both animals & the flora. Plenty of shady spots to get out of the sun or rain, with several places for food & drink scattered around the park. Lots of Water fountains & bottle filling stations.

I had a ball of a time here. It was clean, all of the animals had heaps of space and entertainment and food, they seemed happy, the food places were really environmentally conscious, there were plenty of things to do - keeper talks etc. I really rate this zoo!

Cheap entry but expensive photos. Always having renovations when I go there and feel like I miss out on seeing a few animals. Today there was a keeper growling a kid for being too close to the parakeet which was in an open cage where there wasn't anything seperating the bird from visitors, there was a sign to not touch the bird but nothing about being 'too close' I just thought it was really rude the way she told off the little girl, could have just politely warned her instead. Other than that it's a really lovely place to go for any occasion with lots of cafes to choose from throughout the park.

Went there on a Friday and the weather was amazing. It definitely had that Summer Vibe going in. It had all the animals on that lazy Sunday mode, sunbathing in the sun and resting. For a Friday there was alot of people there which surprised me. Just a heads up that they're upgrading the middle section on the zoo so you'll go around in a wide circle and the main cafe is closed. You have to go to one of the other cafes/ice cream stores.

Zoo is a good size, variety of animals, kept my granddaughter entertained. Not a lot of subtantial food in the zoo cafe but decent range of snacks. Staff seemed off their feet busy however so be prepared to wait. Overall value for money.

A lot of the animals weren't even there and there is no way of telling if they're just not there for the day or if they are hiding away or tucked away somewhere out of view. Overall, a great experience for all animal lovers.

It was a bit busy when we went there but it was still a very fun and an enjoyable day. We purchased the zoo entry and the exhibition entry. It's worth the price but the bug exhibition was quite small still but the bugs details were amazing and there are a lot of interactive things to play with. The prices of food in there was not too bad but there's not a lot of table /chairs to sit on. The animals were adorable and cheeky haha. It's definitely worth going there and spending the whole day there, the shows were amusing. There was Nothing boring about this trip

Nice recreation place with friends and family, some animals are not showing, probably because the weather at time I visit was raining. So we almost spent whole day at the park cause the weather, some area are under construction so there are animals missing. Good experiences and fun if you really want to join the zoo keepers talk with the animals.

Brilliant place to visit with the family. At the time of our visit the place was undergoing some renovations. It was a jotbdayband some animals were sleeping so we couldn't see then.

A great experience and exceeded my own expectations! I was surprised how Auckland has such a comprehensive and complete set of animals they were taking care of. The zoo was also very clean and tidy, and the other patrons respected the rules. I also enjoyed the shows that they had set up! There is some construction happening right now (they are expanding!) so just a headsup for those who will be visiting!

They do a great job with the animals here. You can tell they are well looked after. We could attend a talk about the seals and the speaker was amazing. He knows a lot about them and explained us a lot of stuff. At the end he asked if someone had any questions but no one did because he explained everything very well. His passion for these seal is amazing. You can find here giraffes, rhinos, elephants, lions, zebras and a lot of different type of primates. They also teach you a lot of things about the care of the animals. I loved it!

I only rated the zoo a 3 today because there is still a lot of work being done..am looking forward to going backwhen its all finished , no doubt it will be a 5 then.

The Auckland zoo is amazing! The zoo is clean and well maintained, and there's such an a great variety of animals to see! I love finally seeing a kiwi bird. The elephants Burma and Anjalee were such a treat! And I love that the zoo is actively engaging with volunteers to help keep the animals happy and the experience for the visitors a very memorable one. 10/10 would go again.

Great family day outing, kids enjoyed it, staff were friendly. I was expecting more animals, but otherwise everything else was great.

Our group of 4 adults, 2 toddlers and 1 infant had a lovely time getting up close and fairly personal with the animals. Highlights were the big cats - we were fortunate enough to witness the tiger being fed and to see both the lionesses and cheetahs on the prowl - and the elephants. There was also what looked to be a great playground for the kids, however, naptimes intervened. Recommended for anyone visiting Auckland.

This zoo like so many places in Auckland and new Zealand is so parent and kid friendly. I know it's a zoo and its assumed that it will be for kids and families I love the extra care they took in making it so perfect for families. We are american and this had been a very welcome surprise. We highly enjoyed the zoo!

The zoo is very spacious and houses a large collections of animals from all over the world. The animals are well looked after and kept in an open zoo concept (no cages, rather kept away on an island seperated by water). Overall a fun half day visit!

Fun day at the zoo today. Lots of different interesting animals. Parts of the zoo were also under construction so I look forward to going back when works are finished. Place is also huge with toilets, cafes and places to rest and eat situated all over the place. This was very handy. My favorite part was checking out the tamarins! They were so cute and adorable. Check out the emperor tamarins most especially! 😁 I recommend bringing a hat and putting on lots of sunscreen on a hot day. Lots of open spaces.

We love Auckland Zoo ! It’s fabulous for young and old . We have been been going for quite a number of years. Always find something new. The animals are very well looked after the grounds are very clean and tidy and well maintained. Lots of different lunch options. Great fun play areas for the children. Came to New Zealand for vacation. Near the end of our vacation, we decided to visit the zoo and it was a good idea! Took about 2-3 hours to view everything. Finally saw a Kiwi bird, not one but two! The zoo have a nice layout. There was some animals that wasn’t on site but it was fine. It was a great day at the zoo. We had lots of fun.

For all I can say it's completely Worth a visit! Very touristy but very much recommended. We got tickets at student discount i.e.$19 but regular is $24 I believe. The animals are taken care of and the place is clean, tidy and perfectly what a zoo should look like. Downside, there were a few animals n insects we did not get to see for e.g. The Tarantula but everything else covers up for that. Good show and we'll maintained. #nzmustdo

We came during school holiday, it was easy to reach, i took bus from Victoria st and the stop only 2 minutes walk away. The zoo area was under big construction, but it didn't affect the fun of exploring the zoo. Can't wait to see the new exhibit they are trying to put up with this renovation. Eating areas located in some places, food prices is ok, not cheap but not pricey for a place like this. If you are a coffee person like me, better bring your keep-cup or tumbler, they don't do disposable cups here, environmental reasons, which is good. If you forgot to bring your cup, they can borrow you cups and you can return it at any café in the zoo.

Go early when animals still not hiding from the sun. Otherwise it is hard to find some of them as there are many in the shade or sleeping in their dens. No shows to explain the animals. Looks like they are really understaffed but there were a few volunteers to share about their animals. A real low key places. It is really well maintained. It is a short 20 minute bus ride from CBD and a short walk to the entrance.

The bug lab was awesome! First time back to the Zoo in 19years, with children & grandchildren in tow & it still turned me into a big kid full of awe! Again! We All loved it! Being Spring made it interesting also lol! We took snacks for the 4 hours we were there as we found food for 5 people was a bit costly! Overall a brilliant day!!

Lack of animals at the moment and just very barren throughout. Monkeys were the best spot for the kids.

Went on Mother’s Day with my family and had such an awesome time! The zoo currently have renovations going on but that’s no hindrance to the fun we had or to the animals we saw. They had a range of animals, put together by geological location e.g they had an Australian part of the zoo where there were wallabies, Tasmanian devil, Aussie lizards etc. and then they had the African part of the zoo (which is my favourite) with the giraffes, lions, meerkats etc. The staff are also really nice and interactive which is awesome. I’ve come here a few times in my life and I’ll definitely keep coming back.

Had the most amazing day today. Not many people were practicing safe distancing and probably only half were wearing masks but everything was out and zoo staff were lovely explaining things about the animals:)

Seems to be a lot of attractions missing and some of the new habitats that are built limit visibility quite a lot. Was pleased to see a tākahe and the baboons. But the absence of the lions and tigers makes a huge difference.

Went back to the zoo for the first time in about 20 years! It's as good as I can remember. You may not get to see everything due to the fact there are some large enclosures and animals may be at the back. But it's great for them! The zoo staff are knowledgeable and provide great talks about the animals, we saw the ones about several animals (they are well spaced and logical so you can flow from one to another). Hopefully it won't be another 20 years till I visit again. Cost of entry is very reasonable to maintain zoo and put funding into international conservation.

A 5 star as they recently dropped the price and we paid $12 each for entry. That's very good for a non profit organisation. Everything is good people are friendly except parking is a very very pain. Don't you even think about parking there!!! You will never get a park, never!

The 1st time going to the zoo. It was clean it was clean the animals had very clean enclosures and looked well fed and enriched. Lots of educational opportunities were scattered throughout the zoo with various keeper talks to help people learn about the various species in the collection. The grounds were very well maintained and clean and the staff were friendly.

Varied and we'll kept exhibits! Good amenities too. Whether going with the family or just your partner, this Zoo is a great time! Very helpful and friendly staff as well.

This has been my favourite zoo trip, even on a rainy day. I loved all the Aviaries and getting up and close with some of the animals. The only downfall was that the coffee cart closed very early which was a shame.

Even on a busy day zoo-wide access was easier than it has been in the past and getting views at the different animal stations was also easier. Looking forward to opening of new Tiger enclosure!

This is one of the most fascinating journeys of my lifetime visiting the zoo and watching the zoo caretakers, who are the real hero's of this place. Be it cleaniness, serenity and the variety of animals, birds , mammels under one roof says it all about Newzealand govt. I have no words to express my deep regards and love for the fellas who are working day and night to serve the animal kingdom and ensuring safety of everybody including visitors by being utmost courteous, professional and respectful. fantastic. a place for kids as well as adults. takes about 3~4 hours to look around. its more like a well designed park than a typical zoo. i was impressed by artistic touch and natural design. book advance online and get a discount!

great ZOO, perfect for a day out during a sunny day. lots of interesting animals that looked well taken care of. some of them were sleepy and did not get the chance to see them - maybe next time :) there could be more signs as i got lost even though i had a map.

Auckland Zoo is very tidy, beautiful and a happy place! The animals are healthy and the kids enjoyed it alot!

Buy tickets online to fast track access at the gate. Lines can get long. New upgrades, enclosures are really well thought out with access to view animals up close without disturbing them. Love the overgrown and natural tree coverage across the zoo. Nice new eateries give plenty of options for the hungry or thirsty. Keen to go back when the latest enclosure is finished.

Very cool Zoo. Tidy and well set up - very commercialized. Lots of construction during my latest visit so hopefully exciting things to come.

One of the better zoos ive been to. Clean and tidy public areas. Enclosures are managed well. Love how the cafes use cardboard food trays.

We have been friends of the Zoo for 10 years and each and everyone of our kids has loved exploring the Zoo wether it's a quick hour visit after school or a whole days adventure with picnic and all.

A fabulous day out for the whole family. Great fun seeing all the animals. It is great the zoo is constantly changing to improve and evolve with the needs of the animals.

Best zoo I've been to in a long time! Love the animal encounters they have throughout the day so I could learn more about different species.

Nicely mapped and walking path. Visiting it is beyond expectations. The price of photos they take at the beginning should have separate price for locals. We end up paying for the same amount that tourists do.

A beautiful zoo with world class enclosures. I was visiting from Australia and found that the climate here suits a lot of animals in the zoo hence they seem to be thriving well here... highly recommended on a trip to Auckland

Went to zoo on my daughter's 2nd bday. Gladly was a pleasant sunny day. Well the zoo is a standard zoo and decently priced tickets for 24$. They have different zones like Africa, Australia, South America. They are now building a new region South East Asia. There are few shows which we missed out on. For that you need to enter the zoo early. There are nice eating outlets in between. Only animals on missed out on was some snakes and also I couldn't find Lions. But the most my daughter enjoyed are various kind of birds, which are in plenty. My benchmark currently is Singapore Zoo and frankly this zoo falls short of this benchmark. Nevertheless its a fantastic place of kids and there are playzone as well for kids. Go enjoy !!

Cool place. Lots of quirky little bits & pieces around the Zoo, some around others in animal enclosures to add some substance to the enclosure. Some building work currently going on but I'm sure it will be sweet when complete

Very nice, picantic and well kept zoo. Some congestion, but we were not in a hurry, so didn't bother us. Waited for the lion talk, which was worth it. Saw a kiwi, which made our day.

Modern and well organized exhibitions suited for families with young children. The staff and volunteers were outgoing and friendly, full of information and ideas. Good coffee, too! Thanks!

From Japan:) There are many lovely animals in the huge zoo. I strongly recommend to choose sunny day to visit there. When we went there it was raining in the morning, and there are no animals outside.... In the afternoon, we could see animals moving around as sun luckily came back. My teacher told me when is the best time to see kiwis, and it seems to be afternoon. In the morning, they sleep and not move around. I could see living kiwis for the first time ever, but they were really cute!!

I've been to San Diego Zoo and I can honestly say New Zealand zoos are much, much better. Better habitats/bigger habitats and the general welfare of the animals because of that seems far better. Auckland Zoo was a fantastic day spent with the family. Look forward to going back when the new exhibit opens.

A big well built zoo with good signage and pathing, very helpful staff. Definitely a must visit if you're in Auckland. There are a wide variety of animals and the docile vegetarian ones are given alot of freedom to interact with visitors although they prefer to keep to themselves. The carnivores and bigger animals are kept with proper viewing areas and in well maintained enclosures all through. The winding path requires a map which really makes the experience like a jungle adventure. Each day has a different schedule for talks given by the zookeepers on the various animals. Do visit the howler monkeys at lunch time. They get very loud if you respond to them with a cry of your own. Sadly when I visited one of the tigers had passed away so the son was very depressed and didn't come to greet us. The zoo is constantly expanding and I would love to visit again.

Absolutely loved it! Got a discount as some work was happening and some animals weren't available to see but we weren't bother super stoked for the discount 🥰 we managed to still enjoy ourselves and look forward to coming back to see all the improvements that look amazing! For both animals and humans alike. The service was great, the staff were very helpful and polite. The animals were so beautifully looked after and well loved. We look forward to coming back in a few years when back to Auckland.

It's a little confusing to find your way around and some of the enclosures feel a bit sad due to being small with no where for the animal to go, and others are just empty. There are some cool up close experiences to take if you want to spend the money, but these should be booked in their website ahead of time to be sure they're going to happen.

We had a great day out at the Auckland zoo. Auckland zoo is great to take kids to, there are lots of different animals for them to see and activities to do on the way. The facilities here are great and plenty of them. You can get a decent coffee in several locations and there are several food options including a restaurant. The zoo takes great care of the animals and the enclosures are world class. Highly recommended for a day out with the family.

Good place to know about different creatures of God, need to have patience to walk, however you can cover entirely in three hours. Tickets are bit expensive so look out for offers. Need to improvise in toilet cleanliness

Recent upgrades are great, it's is still under renovation so part of zoo is closed off.

This is always a must do in Auckland. The staff are down to earth and care about their charges. Lots of open space and beautiful surroundings being right next to Western Springs. And we had great help from staff in finding a carpark. Our Hawaiian family loved their time here.

New refreshed layout. Constructions are still going on (July 2020), this means there are NO tigers, some routes are one way in and one way out only...no loops/cut throughs available. The items in gift shop are really expensive. A hand size soft animal fluffy toy will set you beck $28.00. There are no more visitors from overseas so The Zoo should really be kind and consider to lower the prices for local, domestic customers as we are there to support the Zoo too.

Visited the zoo with my almost 2 year old daughter and she is now obsessed with animals. She asks me every single day to take her to go see animals. Glad they have a huge playground area for the kids and glad they’re making it bigger.

Great time. Lovely hot day. Pity the orangutans weren't there as was my main reason for visiting. Will have to return when their new home is ready!

Like many zoos, your experience of Auckland Zoo will depend on the day - and the hotter it is the less animals you will see. In general, the enclosures are nice and the animals seem well looked after.

Zoos + young kids are a great combo. Plus plus the trails are great for toddlers to toddle. Yearly membership is fantastic if you live nearish.

Love the zoo, can't wait to see what it looks like after it's all fixed up.

We love Auckland zoo! It's undergoing renovations at the moment but still a great place to take the kids. We bought the annual zoo pass and it is well worth it. The shops and cafe's within the zoo give a discount for pass holders. Great day out!

Went back to the zoo with my family, it is still a great place to have a fun day out and my kids enjoyed talking to some of the keepers about the Animals (especially the Galapagos Turtle). Only downside is a lot of construction and less animals at the moment. Can’t wait till it is all completed and we get the animals all back - especially the Siamang Gibbons and the Orangutan’s.

Really nice, but some part still close for work...hope next summer will be all open without work around

Great!!!! A wonderful, compact and beautifully kept zoo where the animals are very well taken care of. We love learning about the native NZ wildlife there especially.

The lady who does the face painting was nice she was telling us about the new tiger enclosure that's being built.

There were a lot of animals in the zoo but most of them were sleeping😂 and theres specific times where the trainer/zoo keeper comes to feed the animal like lions or sea lion and we can watch them and listen to them explain about the animals

Such a fun day! We were lucky enough for the weather to clear up on our last day in NZ so we could go to the zoo! Definately reccommended! We got up close and personal with so many animals, and were lucky enough that the tasmanian devil came out of hiding for us! Awesome day, and I highly reccommend finishing your day off at Western Springs, right next door, with a bag of bird seed! The geese and swans will eat right out of your hands! Just watch your fingers.

Seems to be in a transition phase currently with a lot of construction going on. Tiger enclosure is ready but tigers don't arrive till winter unless covid causes further delay. No lions either. Lots of walking with glimmers of some animals

Great place to come and spend the day, have a picnic and a play, the amenities need an update, and maybe a few more food stops or coffee carts might be nice, but it is a place memories are made. The Dragon in the playground is a part of my dearest childhood memories , and both of my children's aswell.

For example what attracts me..they helped and save penguins that are almost die from predators. There are many penguins that only have 1 fin left. Sad :( They also care about sumatran tiger that they didnt use soap contains palm oil. They also have those unique giraffe. I forget what its called 😁 They set up a natural habitat for crocs There are giraffe. Zebra. Sumatran tiger. Rhino. Love bird. Cheetah.little joey. Crocs. Penguin. Seals. Bugs. Kiwi (very hard to see). Otter. Peacock. Deer. Orang utan. Monkey and a few more. The view is good too. The zoo is huge. Love the view They have kids playground

Auckland Zoo is pretty impressive. It is home to the largest collection of native and exotic animals in New Zealand. It is just minutes away from central Auckland. Little tykes would surely enjoy watching the animals in the enclosures.

Nice time exploring and seeing if the animals are out and visible. If not the first time round, often the second time.

Good zoo with a fair variety of animals, some construction underway when I was there so good to see its expanding and improving habitat for the animals. The café was ok, better as a stop off for families and to escape the rain the day I visited - bringing a picnic would be better! Enjoyed the animal talks, especially the red pandas, and the parrot flying display too.

Amazing place to visit on weekends but it is good to visit motat and zoo together , just exited to visit zoo again after construction done to see more amazing animals like chimpanzees and tigers😍

Nice zoo. Few empty exhibits as work is being done. Couldent see any kiwis in the kiwi exhibit but overall had a good time. Took about 3 hours to get round it all and watch a few shows

Auckland Zoo indeed a lovely place ti escape from the city. Had some amazing times volunteering to help prepare the new Lion enclosure. Staff is extremly froendly and helpful and animals look well looked after. Will be back.

Always lovely to see the animals and support the zoo. We go every year and park in the large carpark area across from the zoo then walk through the Lakeside Park where all the ducks are.

Well maintained zoo. It gives an experience as if we are in their natural habitat. Uniquely divided into various geographic areas of the world. Got a chance to see the inconic Kiwi bird of new zealand as well.

This is a good zoo, though not very big, but can be around for a long time. But when we go to the park and garden in decorating a gorilla, saw pictures of their future, are looking forward to it. In the zoo there are many volunteers, they help us introduce animals, this is a very good behavior, can help us better understand the zoo.

Auckland Zoo is a good place to bring your young ones for a short visit or a weekend day trip. You can walk through the whole zoo in roughly 2~3 hours, they are busy constructing the South East Asia section and I rckon it would be an eye opener for 2020. There aren't much place to buy food inside the zoo, if you are planning to stay in the zoo for lunch, I suggest you BYO and if you go early and decide to have lunch outside, I suggest the St Lukes shopping centre, which is just around the corner.

Zoo is great but the main cafe ‘Te Puna’ is the most expensive disappointment of a cafe ever. We went at 2.30pm and there were more staff than food options in the cafe. They were unable to keep up with the to be expected demand. There was minimal food left and what there was to choose from was overpriced and had been sitting for far too long. My favourite was the boring kids pizza for $6.50 that was smaller than a child’s hand. Surely you can do better than this Auckland Zoo..

Good place in City suburb. I like specially big animals in the zoo.

Even with the remodeling work going on it was a great afternoon out for everyone. Although there could be a few extra vending machines scattered around the show for drinks.

Thy are doing a good job educating public on conservation and sustainability. Definitely worth a visit. Time it so you can make some of the educational shows.

Lots of different species! Can be crowded during the weekends but the park is way bigger than expected so you don’t really feel the crowd. Very good experience and well organised!

Absolutely wonderful place to go whether you're a big kid or little one. Fabulous that they take a photo of you as you go in and you can buy them as a memory/souvenir afterwards.

I love Auckland Zoo. It's a fabulous day out for old and young. Lots of animals, the enclosures are modern and animal friendly, yummy food and friendly staff.

Was a lovely experience. You can see elephants, meerkats, seals, zebras, snakes, spiders, lions and much more. Nice spot for a family day trip, make sure to have a hat on and sunscreen for the kiddos on a hot day.

Lots of beautiful animals in large and well thought out enclosures. Not too crowded which is great. Way more variation than I thought. Plenty of places to sit and relax.

Auckland Zoo is really good. The enclosures are getting better every time I go. Great facilities, and friendly staff. Mid-2019 there is new construction taking place, but it doesn't detract from your experience.

I am a "friend of the zoo" and its well worth it ! Can't wait till all the constructions done I just hope it's before my pass runs out!

Disappointed because of the reduced number of animals. They need a Noddy Train to take people around. Lots of construction work going on.

Amazing experience, went while the bug lab was on and it definitely was worth it! Unfortunately there is only index tiger and no hippos currently, how've the new lion are so cool and especially the cheetahs. Our tour guide Sarah was also very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about everything she talked about. Would highly recommend the zoo as everything is being maintained and worked on, definitely worth going to!

Went along to see the new additions at the Zoo which were great. I felt $40 for myself and a child was expensive especially being a ratepayer. Probably would avoid school holidays next time.

Great zoo in the heart of Auckland. It's surprisingly bigger than you'd think! The Safari zone is a huge hit and easily the best section however they are slowly renovating other areas to make this zoo a better experience. Good for visiting with little kids aged 12 and under, maybe too boring or small for anyone older (or if you've been to places like Australia Zoo).

Currently under renovation but I love the new bird enclosure. Isn't it great to be able to walk with flying birds next to you? Sad the lions are no longer with us but there are still plenty of other cute animals. Went also for the bug lab which is an interactive lab with videos, no real bugs.

Hugely busy and parking was a nightmare! After circling both car parks we found a space on the road. The zoo is under extensive changes and we thought the map was difficult to follow. The cafe was so busy and crowded but the sandwich was tasty, full of filling - at $10.50 It was expensive. Just to see the animals was wonderful. The enclosures are so improved from years ago. A lovely visit despite the parking.

Always fun to visit the zoo. A lot of construction going on at the moment to build the new area and the farm animals are no longer around but it looks like it will be exciting once finished.

Construction at the moment can be a little annoying but will totally be worth it once its all completed animals are very well cared for and always seem happy.

Had a blast!!! This was one of our last stops on our month long holiday in New Zealand. ❤️ We got to see so many interesting critters. Giant Tortoises, lil tortoises, meerkats you name it. There is something for everyone. The exhibits are well presented & easy to navigate. They are set up well so even the kids can see the critters easily. Lots of places to take a break & just relax. The gift shop is packed full with all kinds of great gift & souvenir ideas....we came home with a bunch...😎 Stopped & had a Mince n Cheese pie 🥧 before we left. Facilities were spotless & the no hassle parking lot was a breeze. See you next year.

Beautiful. Wish all the animals had been there. Sunburned my scalp. Alligators nostrils moved. There were bats. Lemurs were not raccoons and I liked that. The golden tamerins and emus peed and pooed next to me which means they liked me and were comfortable next to me. Emus have weird necks and like water, specifically sprinklers. I was a kiwi whisper, but actually don't say anything near them because they are sensitive to sound. Ostriches are funny. Random chickens. No otters or squirrels.

They have done an amazing job with all the enclosures it is like you are actually walking through the jungle or the African plains absolutely beautiful! There was a variety of animals and also native flora and fauna. Plenty of things for the kids to do hidden little playgrounds inside. You can buy a cheap activity book at the start and when you go around to different exhibits you can find the stamp and stamp your activity book.

Best place in Auckland for taking kids along on a holiday. Heaps of animals & food joints.

Lovely place for a day out on a family outing, upkeep is good and facilities are great. Pending upgrades to the zoo should make it even better.

Without a doubt best membership deal. I like coming here for breakfast early weekend. A must! Just don’t come too early so I can find a parking space. Membership includes discount at their cafe 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Recommendation: 10/10

The zoo has transitioned in to the 21st century with great gusto! Still areas cordoned off being rebuilt, however so many new enclosures for everyone to experience and enjoy. Always loads of fun here with my family and friends!

The zoo is great! Easy to get around and the staff gave us an umbrella when it started raining. Red pandas were definitely a highlight.

Really nice zoo with a lot of animals I hadn't seen in other zoos! Good layout as well. Also lots of informative zoo staff around the exhibits!

The layout is maze like and for children that's great and adds to the adventure of a day there. But it's not an affordable option as affordable day out. The food is disgusting at the canteen, I suggest you take your own to save and spend the extra on the local beach buying an ice cream.

So much better than we last went, which was probably 8 years ago, or more. The orangutansl enclosure is fantastic, cant wait for the new section to be finished, will be amazing!

Always entertaining, no matter what age you are. I went two days in a row a couple years ago and I go at least once a year! Great, entertaining and interesting shows and super informative. Elephants are a must see! Cant wait to see the new area and new additions!

Always great to visit. Can't wait for the new enclosures to fully open but love what they have done so far. Wish there was a wider range of animals. It's been a long time now but I still miss seeing the hippo.

This zoo is incredible. It takes a good 2 hours to see all the animals on the map which is great fun for a family activity. It was pricey but nothing compared to Australia zoo. I was so impressed by the animal enclosures which were spacious and filled with wildlife. I would highly recommend the spider monkeys. They were such a laugh. Would 100% go back!

The place is great, and the temporary Bugs exhibition was mind blowing. They even have kiwis! The only reasons why I don't give them 5 stars is because: a) too large area under redevelopment at once, b) the map/schedule is too confusing, it's difficult to navigate, I got lost many times and it was the map's fault, it's not well done and the indications are poor.

Nice experience. Animals are treated well. But there seem to be a lot less these days than they used to be. Great commitment to the Sumatran tiger breeding program. Food prices are expensive. Admission is fair. Much better quality zoos overseas for less though.

Nice displays and environments for the animals. Was disappointed not to see the rhinos as their habitat was being adjusted. Also missed seeing the crocodiles as they preferred being completely underwater at that time 😂 The children really enjoyed the playground whilst we ate our packed lunch. Definitely worth another visit.

Thank goodness there entrance tickets have been discount while they build a new exhibit. Worth going with very young children.

Spent an easy 4 hours here with family. Detailed description of all wildlife. No big cats as upgrades being done. Cafe a bit on the pricey side but satisfactory. A great afternoon. Recommend.

Always a great place to spend a relaxing day chilling with the animals! I've been to a lot of zoos around the world and rate Auckland's as one of the best. Looking forward to the new Asian enclosure 😆

Great zoo.. natural habitats for most of the animals.. lots of enrichments.. knowledgeable approachable staff

Great fun. Go early for close parking. Lots of places to eat and tables for picnics also. Volunteers helping and directing are a great asset. Kids loved it.

Last time i visited the zoo was 10 years ago. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit today. Love the cafes available with a wide choice of food. Animals are beautiful especially the baby white rhino. Great to see it out n about. Loved how playful the otters are, very entertaining.

The pace is amazing. Compact yet many animals. Great fun for the little ones. A lot of it was closed due to construction. But u can imagine how much more awesome it would be in the coming time

Very informative and good layout. A nice outdoor activity enjoyed by young and old. Auckland is doing great work to protect animal species.

Amazing place to relax . Animal enclosures are constructed similar to their natural habitats. Good to get an yearly pass.

Beautifull place, took us a good 4 hours, very clean and animals well looked after! Whole fam enjoyed it! A definite yes!

Was pretty good. Bit upset that I didnt get to see any otters though 😕 Otherwise nice day out with plenty to see. Not much in the way of parking though.

Very nice outlay. Heaps of animals to see. Grand child enjoyed it heaps.
