Having lived with my haircut from French Revolver for the best part of 4 weeks its time for a review. After moving to Auckland I was in search of a new hairdresser/ salon, and came across French Revolver. The other positive reviews on here are on point and these guys do not disappoint. After making my appointment with Brad he was able to transform my lockdown hair into the exact style I was after. I was after a simple classic haircut (short back and sides, with some texture on the top) I have a rather annoying cowlick in my fringe, and 1 and a half crowns. This has made it difficult to get a haircut that i'm happy with, until now. Brad has made my hair the easiest thing to style each day and I'm looking forward to coming back again. Thank you very much to the Frenchie team!

Love getting my hair cut at French Revolver. Great premises, friendly helpful staff. Josh is a truly awesome hairdresser and always cuts my hair exactly to what I'm after (I almost don't want to write this review in case that means he gets too booked up I can't get an appointment! - but he really is a pro and has been cutting my hair perfectly for years). You won't find better.

I've been coming to French Revolver since it very first opened. Firstly with Brad and now with Josh. Over the years I have constantly changed my mind with my hair, cut a fringe in, grow it out, go lighter, go darker, go longer, cut shorter. I've never had a bad experience, they are so accommodating in being able to give me a fresh look when I need a change, while still keeping my hair in tip top condition. But most of all they are just all round nice guys - as is the rest of their team. Genuinely nice people who provide a relaxed and chilled experience while being excellent at what they do. The home colour kits over lockdown were a lifesaver and an example at how they just go the extra mile for their clients. Would totally recommend !! .... Lisette

A massive thank you to Keegan who transformed my ratty lockdown hair. As I'm sure many other people have experienced over this time, I'd look in the mirror and feel deflated at the state of my split, frizzy, lifeless mop. Keegan worked his magic (and was a great conversationalist to boot) and I felt like a million bucks. I've had several compliments on my hair since. Huge self esteem boost, thank you!

The team managed to fit me in for a colour post-lockdown when my own hairdresser decided not to get vaccinated and shut down. I had booked for January as that was the first time available, but they had a space for a colour open up due to a last minute cancellation. MY GOD my hair was looking terrible when I got in there, five months of grey regrowth and brassy brunette colour fade, and they could not have done a better job!!! As well as being super welcoming they spent a long time understanding exactly what I wanted and deciding how to achieve the result with my hair in the state it was in, and their colour specialist then spent several careful hours working her magic to highlight and tint my hair to a very natural looking multi-toned blonde. I’m still waiting for my cut appointment (as they couldn’t fit me in for that on the same day) but the colour work has made me look 5 years younger, and feel so much better about myself. I can’t wait to come back for my cut and of course my next colour too!! Thanks team, very much appreciated.

Need a hairdresser who goes above and beyond? I did, after veering between #1 and shaggy mum-bun over two decades. I needed curing from homemade bad haircuts – and I wanted a lot from a hairdressing experience. French Revolver positions as a hairdresser-cum-design space. It promises a lot, over-delivers on everything – and handled this hairdressing virgin with thought and care. “Do you own a hairbrush?” Chandra asks. Tasked with cutting my hair, she is figuring out what she is up against – what I want, and will I look after it? This is a legitimate question, looking at me, but she asked with humour and tact. I needed an overhaul. I wanted to look ‘on purpose’ but with no effort. I wanted undercut (inner punk) but sophistication (professional, almost 50). Oh, and to be convinced that my undyed grey is – great. Once she had voiced the hairbrush question I felt she saw the real me, so could really relax. “People come here and spend money on your colour” says Chandra. She has already massaged the cares out of my head, sorted my looking-in-mirror issues, designed a blended plan of my sketch plus her (much better) ideas. I arrive sceptical and soon trust her utterly. The whole place is an adventure – parked at the Civic and did some city explore. Climbed the stairs to have my head transported to imaginary New York/Melbourne fusion. Bare industrial space, divided with apparently random but definitely on purpose pieces - this is how I want to look... Yes mirrors, but high ceilings, lots of natural light, plants – and a complementary teapot as you wait and unwind. In short – French Revolver is great. What was going on around me was great. What happened to me was great, and occurred with grace and style. Chandra never rushed me, as I worked through anxiety, indecision, choice. Chandra cut my hair; I made a successful transformation, which a month on is as easy-care and professional as she promised. After an hour in her hands I could have been upsold anything (colour! Product! Rebook!). In fact she encouraged me not to interfere with what she had achieved, the price was reasonable, and I promised to return for a complementary tidy to the (surprise) fringe. And was gone. Thanks Chandra and team – they will sort you out, cheer you out – and add all the hair care you are looking for.

Brad Lepper and the team at Frenchies are undoubtedly some of the most talented hair designers/stylists in New Zealand. Exceptionally cool and friendly people and one of the finest interior spaces around. Thanks Frenchies!

100% trust my hair with Brad and the team.... it was a last minute google to fix a bad haircut that found me at French Revolver, when I was in Dunedin for 3months Brad recommended his friend... then I boomaramed back once in the 09.

I had my hair cut and coloured in French Revolver Studio by Chandra a few months ago and I felt like I really needed to share my experience here. It was amazing ! Very reasonable and affordable prices but fantastic service and incredible outcome. Moreover, I have to talk a bit about the layouts and atmosphere of this place, because it brings out a vibe that not many hair salons in town can do. Shiny wooden floor; luxurious leather chairs; elegant plants and fancy chandeliers;... everything is just so nice, so high-end feel and they matched perfectly together to create an unforgettable visual experience in a hair salon. Walking in here, you will feel like you are some celebrities getting your hair done in a super fancy and expensive place. Bravo to the people who done the interior layout designs for this studio, I appreciate your work very much :) Customer service is awesome, I love how Chandra listened carefully to what I wanted to do with my hair and did exactly the same (even better than I expected). Layered haircut looks great, ombré brown and blonde colour: cannot praise enough. 5 stars for the service and 10 stars for the reasonable price point. I highly recommend this place ! P/s: To Chandra: I’m amazed by your vibe and I did enjoyed your company very much. I really like your giggles, they sounded like crystal bells on a summer day. Chandra fixed my hair ( I had a terrible experience elsewhere) and gave me a stunning colour that I am in love with! Had my first cut with Keegan and it was very good. He taught me how to use a hair dryer diffuser to create natural waves at home. I will definitely come back to him and I highly recommend him.

Can't rave about this studio enough! Josh and the crew are superb at what they do. My girlfriend walked out of the hair studio looking a million dollars so we are both very pleased with the results. After Googling what the best salons in Auckland are, I came across this hair studio and booked an appointment in to see Jack. I was very nervous to see a new stylist as I have been travelling extensively And unable to find someone regularly. Jack immediately put me at ease, answered all my questions and gave great professional feedback. After my salon experience, my hair is looking and feeling so lovely! What an amazing place! Always leaving with a big smile on my face. Keegan is the haircut magician and in combination with Chandra they are the perfect cut and colour duo. I highly recommend this place, lovely people, great atmosphere, always great experience!!!

Jack is an absolute delight and has the best banter! Had my hair cut and coloured post lockdown, earlier this month and it was a fabulous experience. While I normally live overseas, I found French Revolver on Google and was not disappointed. Jack set me at ease straightaway. His communication is amazing and he takes the care and time to explain everything he is doing. It feels much more like a collaboration, which is rare these days. Super happy with the balayage which looks incredibly natural and just what I wanted. I’ll be sure to come back if I find myself in Auckland in the future, needing some hair loving.

Its always a nervous moment when you go to get your hair cut somewhere new, especially if it hasnt been cut for some years. The reviews I read prior to booking were so good - and after having Jack cut my hair I give 5 out of 5 as well. So professional, a good discussion as to what would be the best steps forward and a great outcome, I will be back.

Had my first appointment with Josh, I have to say I've never been so satisfied with a haircut. Josh was very friendly and super talented. Will definitely make it a regular go to place. Slightly on the higher price end, if you care about that.

Josh is amazing. He can read between the lines and interpret my vague brief into exactly what I never knew I wanted. I always walk out with the prettiest hair and the cut is so good it grows out really well between cuts.

Absolute gem of a place - Jack is so lovely and easy to talk to, and delivers great results. He took me from blonde to brown and somehow knew the exact colour I wanted, even though I showed him about ten different photos with different colours (lol). I was waiting for a few cuts before I could write a review. Josh blows my mind whenever I step out of their door. Very creative and very patient, this ever smiling stylist gives a great style keeping in mind the texture and life style of his clients. And BTW, a great refreshing beverage while you wait :-). A must go place to enjoy your favourite coffee while Josh makes you look like a star!

Kazia is AWESOME!! I have been like Goldilocks going to different hair salons trying to find THE BEST hairdresser for years and I finally found her, she is amazing! I have never had my hair as long as it is now so I'm a bit/very protective of it and Kazia takes care of it so well! I get blonde highlights and every time I go in with a rough idea of what I want she gives me her thoughts and I am always happy with the end result. Great studio, great people, great talent! I would give the hair design aspect a 5. And a 2 star for the pre-appointment experience- expect to wait 4 months for a response to your email. Turned up for my appointment only for it to have been moved to the following week (not by me) without any notice. Arranged my whole day around this appointment, waste of time.
