Yes, the walkway is sadly closed. Hopefully not forever. It is not privately owned or permanently closed. It is still publicly owned and publicly managed, but is closed temporarily to protect kauri from kauri dieback disease. You can still do the first five minutes or so of the track, up to the bridge, which is a lovely (if very short) walk.
