Reviews of Q Theatre
T.
Great venue, very cosy, seats have removable arm rests for comfortability. Has a great Cafe for comfort food, or that coffee to get you on the go.
T.
Accidently bought tickets to pax assadi on the Friday not the Saturday. Staff still let me and my partner in anyway and found 2 seats for us. Was a crack up show at a great venue. We were very grateful and had an awesome night. Cheers!
K.
How could you not like the QTheatre. Great bar for pre show drinks or just to meet up. We recently enjoyed a one person show which ws absolutely stunning. Had a meal in the Cafe after. Not up to pre covid standard with a limited menu but still adequate and enjoyable. Great friendly service.
K.
Loved the theater, such a great spot with awesome meals and drinks as well as great performances and comfortable seating
P.
Always one step ahead of the rest, what a great venue for diversity and to catch the latest drama literally! Also great drinks and nibbles, and a customer-focussed dynamic young team!
K.
Talent spills off the stage in greater quantity than Meera's charm attracts smiles.
Highly recommend to all.
K.
Always a good experience. Great versatile venue for theatre, nice front of house bar area.
L.
Been here for brunch and for a show at night time. Food is great, plenty of option, coffee was great. Was a cool place to come and watch a comedy show. The "foyer"/bar area is big, has heaps of room and doesn't feel as though you are crammed when waiting for a show unlike other places. Pretty sure I read outside that the bar is not-for-profit too which is awesome.
S.
Great venue, loved the bar food before hand, the decore was fun and interesting, and we really enjoyed the show we went to see.
Z.
Really nice theatre. It's pretty small so any seat gives you a good view. I had seats in the 'gods' section, on the side, closest set to the stage and found that it was a bit too far forward ( it was just on top of the stage) so I would recommend getting ones after if possible.
R.
I've been to two performances (this year and last year) at The Loft upstairs of Q Theatre and also been downstairs for drinks. The Loft is great for smaller shows and intimate performances because of the size and style of the room and seating setting. It really encourages the audience to engage and I have found myself enjoying both shows I've attended there. There are stairs and also a lift to go up and down and with the bar downstairs its great to have pre or post drinks or nibbles there too. The atmosphere of Q Theatre is really nice; it has a classier feel than just a regular old bar where you'd pop in for drinks and whenever I've been there or gone passed it, I always see lots of people in there having a good time - just as I did. That's always a good sign that it's a kind of place you wana check out :) I like that there are different seating options too and the decor looks great. The staff are good friendly people too :)
P.
This is a very quaint theatre for our biggest city. It's got very cool vibe to it and has a nice and easy access entrance with small bar and services at ground level.Parking is a real issue but that is a large city problem and no fault of the Theatre. Once into the theatre the seating is comfortable and the layout is good.
M.
This is a pretty cool and intimate theatre with a decent size bar. My only complaint was the poor bar etiquette. The barman spilled wine all down the outside of my glass and onto the bar and didn't seem to mind. I had to mop it up to stop it dripping onto me. Not how you pour a drink. Otherwise, great place!
L.
Awesome place to watch different stuff. The shows here are always interesting and you can have some drinks before.
V.
Fun, Friendly Staff, Fabulous food.. especially the all day brunch menu with excellent coffee. Loads of great shows and festivals on an ever evolving calendar. Highly recommend for a night out.
S.
I was here on two occasions - to watch the NZ International Comedy Festival and Documentary Film Festival. This place has good ambience and a decent bar. The food is good and the staff is well mannered with done good customer service skills. Cheers
E.
Beautiful venue, the spaces are incredible. Always an interesting range of shows on as they have three separate performance spaces. The bar and cafe are also a regular haunt, the staff make you feel welcome and it helps to make Q almost a hub for artists to meet casually or formally, day or evening
E.
Went to watch a couple of doco movies as part of the festival that's now heading to Wellington. Awesome event, awesome movies and a great intimate venue. Would highly recommend. There are movies for young and old alike. Saw Buddy and Cause of Death. Brilliant!
N.
I really want to fault this place just for fun but I can't. From the service to the food to the cleanliness...it is perfect. Not high class but doesn't need to be, it's classy enough for the purpose it serves. My work team loved it, my family loves the place. Very welcoming.
K.
I have been here a few times to see a comedy act.
This theatre is always busy and could do with more tables or stools. It's a cool bar and theater. The bar staff are good so your not waiting for long.
M.
The Manager had wonderful hospitality! She made my night even happier. :)
The show I was watched was "Don Juan" It was super hilarious!! I would love to go again! Oh, and the dinner at their restaurant was great, too! So, overall, fantastic night! Thank you!! xx
K.
Sinarella = awesome family show.
S.
Went there to watch a documentary and the theatre was really good. The seating is not similar to the commercial theatres and they have seats on both sides of the they're at the top.
Tasted the coffee at the cafe. They had only 1 size when I went. Honestly it was either bad coffee or the person didn't know how to make a Mocha.
Y.
Good theatre, always a great range of interesting shows. Fantastic bathrooms.
Not nearly enough seating in the bar/wait area though, so be prepared to stand around if you arrive early.
R.
Great venue for theatre AND food/drinks. We've never eaten at the restaurant but we often go early to have a drink and appetizers before the show. Prices (and tastes) are great. (We also love the Silo Theatre shows that are sometimes put on at the Q Theatre.)
P.
We had dinner before watching Orchids. The food was so delicious and the wait staff were friendly and efficient. They set the scene for a great night. Loved Orchids too of course.
W.
This was the first time I have ever been to this theatre. I was impressed, Very well laid out & thought out. A good variety of food available over the main bar, with a second smaller inside the theatre itself for quick refreshments.
Being located at the top of Queen Street, means access is too easy either private car, public transport, taxi or Uber.
. Ample seating in a spacious foyer also makes meeting guests preshow a breeze. Likewise this area doubles after the show, to become a pop-up for your shows merchandise memorabilia.
The particular show I attended had great sound and visuals, but don't know if that was down to in-house team or part of the tour. Either way they did a great show, making for a seamless show with transition of scene sets etc
E.
So much fun. Great staff .great show by the comedy festival.
T.
Excellent show (Briefs) but the bar service needs some refinement. You are encouraged to preorder half time packages but then have to queue up and wait anyway so seems little point in the prepurchase. Theatre (table) seating was great and there is a bar available inside the theatre itself, depending on the show I presume.
M.
My absolute favourite theatre in Auckland. Easy parking close by, and the fabulous food and bar staff make our theatre experience even better. My whole theatre club are always excited when it's a play at Q on our agenda!
A.
I really enjoy coming to this place. The vibe is very theatrical If one can capture it. The bar is great and the toilets are done in red with dimmed light...you'll like yourself in the mirror:)
K.
Brilliant black box theatre that always looks different whenever we go.
ATC used to have this as their home theatre. They don't any more but the place still hosts lots of brilliant shows. There are two theatres, Rangatira and Loft, where Loft is a tiny little space, super cosy.
Nice food available in the restaurant and the bar is a beautiful spot for a drink too.
R.
Great show..nice place for a quick meal and drink..good service! Seats for show were not that comfy after a hard day at work...big people would be challenged.
R.
Relaxed atmosphere with a neat cafe / bar... grab a wine and watch the show.
Car parking nearby. Allow plenty of time to soak up the ambience of Aotea Square too.
D.
Wow what a fantastic experience having a meal here. Great coffee by Mel & awesome service and recommendations by Timmie. Highly recommend popping in and will be back next time I’m in NZ again.
K.
I've seen many great theatre performances there - both in the main auditorium and in the loft space. The bar on the ground level is a great space to enjoy a drink pre show.
J.
Saw trinity roots here, was seated in the gods front row center. It was amazing , thought we could have been to far away. But no chance it was a great seat. Venue would also be good for some sort of ring action, e.g. boxing, ufc
I.
Attended NZtrio concert. Such a wonderful time and experience ❤
V.
Recently visited the Q Theatre to watch the production Burn Her. It was a brilliantly performed piece of theatre and highly recommend it. The performance was held in the Loft, which was perfect - an intimate space which was ideal and well utilised.
D.
Great theatre. Excellent play, acting superb. Welcoming crew who really got patrons involved. Very pleased we went.
J.
I've been volunteering at the DocEdge film festival and had heaps of behind the scenes interactions. This is a committed and professional team and venue. Use it, enjoy it, and support it. It deserves every little piece of support it can get, from a coffee to a corporate venue booking or a theatrical season.
A.
Great place, offers a wide array of pre-show food, beverages and comforts. Is also a nice place for a meeting or just to spin some yarns with friends over some brews or coffee.
J.
Used to be 5 stars...dropped in my estimation with a lot of grumpy rude people working alongside a happy bar and box office lineup. Need to get 95% happy again. Shame cos its a brilliant setup.
T.
Amazing Venue with stellar service from outstanding staff. Food just right for a quick bite before a show or a fab meal to discuss the show at length. Highly recommend. Love, Love, Love!
S.
The building is modern and organized. Bar looks great! I went to watch the play called "Homos" and it's a great experience. Beautifully performed!
S.
First time patron and VERY IMPRESSED by the courtesy, politeness and helpfulness of all the staff working there..! Dessert was spot on and you can't go wrong at the bar! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! 👍😀
k.
Nice small theatre. Show was briefs which I highly recommend. Only downside is lack of room between rows of seats. As a tall person I felt very constructed.
D.
We stopped into Q for a meeting and ended up having an amazing lunch! Who knew - we got a selection of Tapas between the two of us. Lamb skewers, Crispy Pork Belly and Crispy panko tiger prawns - prawns were so good we ordered another plate of them and fought over the last one!
Highly recommend these guys - great to stop in or have something to eat before you go to show!
J.
Visits daily for doc edge film festival. Good, convenient cafe. Lovely staff. Fine, small theaters. Great selections of documentary films.
D.
Great modern theatre space. Three theatres with a bar restaurant. Can get crowded before. a show but staff are very efficient. often spills out on to pavement.
Q.
The show I saw was brilliant, the toilets were impeccable, never ate there but other the patrons' food looked delicious, service very caring and personable
B.
This is an awesome little bespoke theatre. The steps up to the loft are quite steep so may be a challenge for some but well worth the climb. Saw Ithaca which was acrobatically incredble
J.
Went to see Laura Daniel & Joseph Moore in Two Hearts Winery Tour. The show was fabulous and the staff were great - very helpful!
N.
Great place to meet up with friends. The outside bench is a good place to waste away the time people watching. The staff are friendly and helpful.
J.
Good modern venue with several theatres. Spacious bar area downstairs and tickets to many events sold on site. Right in the CBD.
E.
Comedy Festival always a good thing, Q Theatre has more intimate spaces then any other theatre and therefore can take risks in the entertainment industry that you won't find another places
T.
Always a great night out at Q Theater. Good food, friendly staff along with awesome shows
I.
An amazing venue, staffed by extremely hard-working, lovely people, and showing very high quality performances and shows from some of the NZ and the world's greatest artists and creative thinkers.

Really great facility - good entrance and perfect theatre setting. Only downside was the seating in the 1st two rows, it was sub-par compared to the back-row seating!

C.
LGBT+ arts space, awesome shows and ultimately great place to be 🌈
U.
20Jul16 A favourite theater venue of my wife and me because of its small size, the frequent changes in offerings, good visibility of the performers from any seat and good acoustics.
C.
Great theatre. But their bar has a mediocre selection of NZ beers and extremely overpriced food and snacks when compared to other similar theatre's
B.
A great theatre, one smaller and one larger, still with an intimate feel. Good bar and kitchen too.
