I've been to a number theaters around the world but I have never seen one anything like this. The Indian-inspired decorated foyer is spectacular. The ornately decorated columns with elephant capitals, seated Buddhas, the star-sprinkled ceiling, and the elephant decorated chandelier are just some of the amazing decorations! If you didn't know you were in New Zealand you'd think you were in India! The Civic theater in Auckland is a must visit.

This was my first time here and wow wow wow. I was in a mouth drop awe. The building inside and out is just beautiful. I went here with my partner to watch Mary Poppins. The show on top of the civic building made my night to perfection. Highly recommending going to visit the building and if you have the chance, then go see a show too.

Watched the "Rock Follies Forever"show late June, I brought my Mom there. Although she didn't know anything from the TV series. She truly enjoyed. I love watching shows in the Civic. The pandemic reinforced my views that how talented Kiwi musicians are - we just need to give them more support.

A wonderful hall, magical acoustics! Thanks to the organizers of the concert, the hall was full today!

Great historic venue with plenty of character. We had a conference dinner at the winter garden section and it was a fabulous night. The ability to set up bars in additional areas was great as well as the ability to keep the venue locked down during set up time. Worth having a look at for any events or shows that you may have on

Such a stunning location for an event. At this event was the Doc Edge Film week. Made such a big difference having the scene set prior for the great space station documentary we watched.

This is one of the most beautiful theaters I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. The ceiling in the main hall resembles the night sky. The stars are modelled after the constellations of the southern hemisphere and is an absolutely fantastic sight. The entrance to the theater dazzles you with it's ornate columns, carved with elephants and other sculptures. The interesting artwork and unique architecture transports you to alter world- somewhere exotic and luxurious. I've watched a couple of performances here and am impressed every time. The quality of the shows is superb and the atmosphere that the Civic creates is electrifying. I definitely recommend visiting the Civic Theatre while you are in Auckland.

Great ambience and location. They put on some really good shows here. The Winter Garden theater downstairs is a delight. Start your evening with a wine at the bar on Queen Street level.

Really cool theatre! Feels like you travel back in time 50 years. Our seats were in the back of the floor level, but we could still see perfectly fine. Would imagine that there isn’t a bad seat in the place. Overall, a great place to see your favorite performances.

Beautiful, historic venue and some top-quality live performers. Every time I come, I’m reminded just how wonderful a night at The Civic is, and vow to return again soon. Fans of the theatre will not be disappointed: great acoustics; a well stocked bar/refreshments area and comfortable seating, with excellent views of the stage from the stalls and circle alike.

Great service and friendly staff. The parking in the Civic carpark is convenient and reasonably priced.

Beautiful theatre. Amazing decor. Elephants and Thai / Indian ornamentation throughout all areas. The auditorium has a starry sky, beautiful balconies and eastern inspired domes. Staff were friendly and pre-ordering our drinks was great. Ready for us immediately in the interval and no queueing. Parking a short walk away at the Civiv (small spaces!) was convenient. Parking cost $10 for our evening performance and pre drinks time (4hrs?). We watched School of Rock which was great. Lots of energy and loud music. Great kid and adult performances. Will look to go to the Civic again soon!

Great venue for a show. Comfortable seating and very well run. Really easy to get to and out of as well. Love the decor inside, very over the top. If the show you're coming to see is here, that's a great bonus.

First time I was going inside the Civic, and I was not expecting that! This is such a beautiful place, huge, so classy! Staff working there for the show Les Miserables were all really nice as well

Watched my 1st live musical show - Aladdin and it was astounding! The Civic theatre was remarkably well-maintained in the inside. The architecture is fantastic. I love the starry, starry sky. The cast did a phenomenal job. Gareth Jacobs, hands down and on bended knees of your performance. AMAZING🤩🤩🤩

Located in thr middle of Queen st you can't miss it. You can park in the carpark underneath Aotea Square. There are bars inside the theatre and also outside. Elliot Stables is across the road in case you want nice food for a reasonable price. I find that the view from Mezzanine is pretty good, even better than from some of the seats at the back on the main floor.

The Civic Theatre is a jewel in Auckland's Crown. Just the sheer extravagance of the decor is stunning. I went to see Aladdin which was spectacular in the extreme and suited the surroundings enormously.

Awesome venue, very beautiful design. Acoustics are fantastic. Easy location to access with plenty of near by parking right in the heart of the city.

An audience member kicked our drink over before the show started and the service of the ushers was amazing. They promptly cleaned it up, apologized even though it wasnt their fault and even went and got another drink free of charge . Bar staff were friendly and happy to see us in the intermission. Venue was beautiful and well set up with multiple bars and toilets scattered over the place.

Great theatre, has real character and charm. Even the back seats are still close enough to the stage to see everything. Friendly and helpful staff also add to the enjoyment.

Great atmosphere, great vibe! Have seen a few shows now at The Civic and the staff are always friendly and helpful, the venue has so many different spaces for various events and it all works really well.

This beautiful venue is out of this world! As soon as you step inside it is like you are being transported to another location. The theater is exquisite and gives the illusion of being underneath a starry night sky. A must-do at least once! Pictures do not do it justice.

Best theatre in ages and ages. Comfy seats and they have ice cream and popcorn. Its like the movies but in real life. Like a live movie. What will they think of next!!

A wonderful venue for a great show....The Jersey Boys. It's been years since we saw a show at the Civic, but it doesn't disappoint.

The grand theatre of Auckland, love the unique internal decorations. Been here several times for dramas, musicals and film festival, wish to see more world-class performance.

The Civic has to be one of the most beautiful buildings in Auckland. Imposing on the outside, it is grand and classy inside, and purely magical once you get into the actual theatre. I saw Jersey Boys here (which was fantastic, by the way), but it regularly hosts live entertainment and I would definitely recommend going along to check something out in this fabulous theatre.

Beautiful theatre for performances and movies. Many different waiting area with their own bathrooms and little bars, odd choice of ceiling decoration in the waiting areas. Comfortable seats. Circle row A is the best position :)

Beautiful space for performances in central Auckland. We went to watch Matilda which was amazing. Seats are really comfy and its always cool to have an explore around the building.

Show was great civic is absolutely stunning and beautiful on the inside I would recommend had a great night.

Excellent place to watch a show. Beware, the circle (first floor balcony) row A seat 60 (and the same on the opposite side by the looks of it) has a TV screen (facing the stage) purtruding just above the line of the handrail. It blocks a little bit of the stage, not enough that it blocks any view of the action but enough that it could be annoying.

Great venue Teeks Concert was epic. Friendly staff. Reasonable range of snacks & beverages. My seat was comfortable for a seated concert. I would strongly recommend attending any event at the Civic.

Awesome show (Jersey Boys) but the theatre is simply magnificent and always a pleasure to attend - even the wine prices weren't too bad! Does tend to be too hot by the end of shows though (to point towards a minor negative)

Thank god they didn't knock it down. Saw Les Miserables here. The acoustics were awesome. The Civic is a must see for all theatre lovers visiting or living in Auckland.

We visited for Edith Piaf à L'Olympia à Paris performed by Yulia. We were seated at the front most row. The theatre is pleasant and clean, atmosphere was great. Performance was very enjoyable.

Really lovely looking theatre! The architecture was wonder! Show was 10/10 but couldn't see over the persons head in front of me, and the seating was soooo uncomfortable with no leg room!!! Big let down

Probably my favourite theater in the country, beautifully restored to it's former brilliance seeing anything at the Civic or adjoining lounges is a treat all unto itself.

The most amazing restored theatre, stunning architecture, feels like you're stepping back in time. Highly recommend a visit for locals and tourists - well worth it!

The Aladdin Broadway Show was phenomenal what a great experience me and my husband had. Would reccomend this to anyone and hopefully they come back with Aladdin and the return of Jafar because we will be there. Genie was Fab as ever 🧞‍♂️

Always love the Civic. I did notice it was very hard for elderly people to access the upper levels. But we like it and have always had a good view from the circle section.

Beautiful atmospheric theatre that was restored early 2000. As soon as you enter the building you step into the world of performing arts and creativity. The interior of The Civic has a domed ceiling painted with lights as the stars. The design style of The Civic is of a garden at night, with turrets, minarets, spires and tiled roofs and Abyssinian Panthers. It sets a wonderful atmosphere to every show you go to watch. Definitely a venue to be cherished and one to visit for its atmosphere. I recently visited The Civic to watch the amazing production of the musical Mary Poppins. The perfect setting for a wonderful performance with a highly skilled cast who you could see were loving every minute of performing the show. The costumes were wonderful and so colourful. After a crazy 2020 my visit was very much the 'spoonful of sugar' needed.

Had a great experience, as a wheelchair user, I was ushered from the front door right to our seats. Saw The Jersey Boys. Was fantastic, and had a great view of the stage the whole time.

This is the most beautiful theatre in our country... Jersey Boys was great!! More shows should be here, instead of Spark/Vector or whoever the current sponsor is GO TO THE CIVIC!!

Went to Sound of Music singalong. Was awesome, beautiful theatre.

What an amazing theatre visually inside. Saw school of rock and the sound acoustics where great. Definitely go back to the civic theater to see other shows in the future

We went to the Civic theatre to watch the show called Jersey Boys. While we were a fair way back up the back of the theatre, we were able to see all clearly. We loved the stars on the theatre ceiling as we waited for the start of the show, especially watching the 2 falling stars!

It's a heritage site, very ornate and well maintained, you can feel the old style charm

An exceptional venue for viewing any production. Almost all seats provide good viewing of the stage area. Parking at the Civic ensures short walk to the theater.

We went to watch Mary Poppins and the show exceeded expectations!! Such an amazing performance. The interior of the building was unique but didn't appear to be of the same quality of the show still well worth visiting and wandering around!

Such a beautiful venue that can host so many varied events. Really enjoyed the Caboret Festival and the Civic really coming alive.

We went to War 🐎 Horse at the Civic, brilliant show in a theater with atmosphere. Take your own water, $5 for a bottle is steep.

I needed a lift because of a heart condition, but had to walk up 5 flights of stairs because I didnt know there was one i could use until after the show and came down in it. Not sure how, without everyone wanting to use it, but would have been good to know there was a lift i could access.

Was great to see the Jersey Boys at the Civic as the acoustics are amazing. Seats were comfortable with good leg room. Staff were very helpful and polite.

I love this old theater! Took the tour today. Behind the scenes and old stories. Saw some of the Mary Poppins setup and Catacombs dance party in the winter garden. Great old place!

A beautiful historical theatre with the most amazing ceiling. If you ever get the opportunity to see a show there, I highly recommend it for the rich experience. Seats are a little uncomfortable and 25 people have to stand is your sitting in the middle of the line, so good to arrive early if that's where your seats are :)

The civic is a wonderful old style theater. It is a place where you can dress up and enjoy professional shows like Mary Poppins. The seats are comfortable, and the acoustics are marvelous.

This place was great the last time I ever walk in this building was in 1993 i said hello to Donald trump before he walk in this building back then he was a Business man he won'ted to build a casino down the waterfront where the old train station is and now that whole complex is now a boarding house because he won'ted to call it (TUMP TOWER) like he has in New York on 725 Fifth Avenue Between 56th & 57th Street in Midtown Manhattan New York City it Serves as the Headquarters of the Tump Organisation.

A classic opera theatre built in 1929, with Indian/Arabic motifs. Stands beautifully till now, delighting visitors and performance viewers. The star lit ceiling takes your breath away. Must see in Auckland. There are tours to learn about the history of The Civic.

Great show, lovely theatre. They don't make them like that anymore. But getting out of the Aotea Square parking garage is a nightmare!

Had issues with one of our two bookings, can’t rate the staff highly enough for their help and assistance. Amazing theatre, would love to have a better look during the day to really appreciate the details. Book of Mormon a rude yet hilarious show, great night.

Grand theatre, gorgeous sets.

Gorgeous venue, the bar staff are very fast and friendly. Don't buy a bottle of wine as you cannot bring glass into the theater. The ushers are on their A game. Only thing is there is no middle isle so you have to shuffle to get to and from your seat.

The venue is very good! Watched the best foods comedy gala here, and it seemed like wherever you sat, you'd have a great view of the stage! Seems like most comfy seats would be at the bottom, about 17th row back(close to the back wall at the bottom), seats were comfy enough to sit on comfortably for the 2 hours!

The civic was beautifully historic. My parents went there so many years ago. The show, Book of Mormon was too funny and very well done and I say that as a 6th generation Mormon whose family has been in it from the beginning. I respect my heritage but can appreciate good humor.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, the Civic theatre is quite beautiful. Exquisitely detailed and brimming with character. All the seating is great, and the shows are usually of amazing caliber. An absolute must for any lovers of theatre in New Zealand

Venue is breathtaking a truly amazing building. Went to see book of mormon and would recommend seeing it. However I was sitting upper row R the lady in front was restless and keep leaning forward forcing me to do the same to see the show. I would suggest sitting in the lower rows if you can.

Absolutely fantastic theatre with good seating, atmosphere, acoustic!

A grand theatre which creates a magical ambience and speaks of grander times. I love coming in here and watching shows. We were seated in the stalls - a slightly cheaper option when purchasing tickets, but we had a perfectly uninterrupted view of the stage. They also have booster cushions for children or shorter adults, to enhance your view.

Stunning theatre! If you have the chance to see a show here, make sure you take it! Such a lovely theatre with great seating so there really isn't a bad seat. Really great views of the stage from all angles. Because it's a smaller theatre it does get busy when big shoes are in town but this just adds to the whole theatre experience. The staff ate helpful and informative as well which helps. Definitely see a show here!

Stunning location inside. My main issue is my fear of heights but when I was at Aladdin and couldn't cope with the height the staff members were amazing and brought me down lower. I couldn't have been more grateful. Now that i'm more aware I was able to select lower seats for The School of Rock show. Lovely place.

Awesome night watching the comedian Ben Elton haven laughed so much in a long time , worth going to see , the Civic is just as grand as I remember

The Civic theatre is AMAZING. With a roof that makes you feel like your outside in the night sky, the Civic theatre is really quite fantastic. There is plenty of seating and no matter where you sit you have a clear view of the stage. The lighting is awesome and the acoustics are wonderful. It's definitely my favorite theatre in New Zealand.

We saw Aladdin at the Civic. We extremely loved it and blew our minds. Love the seating there, and staff make it easy to find your seat. Stage is great and the orchestra played underneath it hidden away which was ingenious! Great place to see a show!

Love watching shows here, it's a beautiful historic venue. Nice and romantic. Just be aware that the high up seats are VERY high up and not vertigo or phobia friendly

This theater is awesome. The details of the building is very classical from outside to the inside. It has a good space but the seats are not too spacious. They serve drinks and snack but not enough to choose from. Every show has merchandise and a bit pricy.

It's always a treat to watch a play at The Civic. She's a grand old dame; there's just something about all that Gilt, and the starry sky above! The only challenge is narrow access to the circle - make sure you arrive in plenty of time to get to your seats!

Nice venue with plenty of public transportation around for easy access. A good lineup of musicals and events is always on offer. I recently watched School of Rock the musical and was very happy with the experience.

This has to be the best nostalgic theatre in New Zealand. Always a pleasure to go to show here...old world magical.

This is great venue, lots of cool shows get put on here and there is a bar on the outside and inside. It is also a historic building so there are lots of cool historic facts about this place. Keep an eye out for art shows and performances at the civic, there tends to be quite a few throughout the year.

Love this place, always have an awesome experience when attending events here. Nice comfy seating and good views of the stage no matter where you are sitting. Bathrooms are always clean and tidy and staff are always friendly and helpful. Alcohol drinks are reasonably priced.

A real treasure - beautifully restored. It transports you back to when one got all dressed up to attend the theatre - a step back in time.

I never tire of this beautiful theatre. Ear Horse was all I imagined it to be. As a single older person it was easy to get a last minute ticket and because I only needed one got a fantastic front row circle seat. I felt very safe by myself.

The most magical theatre in the country

I love this place. There is always an excitement anytime I go here, due to the shows. The theatre is wonderful and one can have a reasonable view from most seats. On the downside, food and drinks are really expensive here, so I don't usually eat anything when I'm here. Love this place. Best theatre possibly in the country.

I've watched a few musicals in the Civic and have not been disappointed. Awesome place to watch your favorite live performance shows. The seats are comfy, and the space is just enough where even the audience in seats in the back can still enjoy the show. There's a bar in both the upper and lower floors but not always open at the same time. The staff are friendly and will help you find your seats. Musicals sound great in the theater almost anywhere ypu sit. If you're into selfies, the interior design is great woth a lot of detailed figures everywhere. Though most of the time taking videos or photos of the shows are proibited and the staff are quite good at catching anyone hoping to record the shows. My only complaint might be the lack of cup holders for the seats. But that's not a big deal since I normally don't drink during the show.

No visit to Auckland is complete without a visit to this great fantasy themed old-time cinema/theatre. Swoon at the star studded 'sky', marvel at the magic and imagination of it all.

A classic building. Rich in history. The beating heart of Auckland theatre and film. More often used to host stage performances, but whatever brings you over its' threshold is a venue of pure delight. As the lights dim, you are treated to a star studded night sky. The red eyed lions carefully guard the stage should a predator dare approach. The pelican curtain delights the eye with a 1920's flare which accentuates the anticipation to come, after the curtain has lifted.

I had a great time watching school of Rock. The ushers were very friendly. Especially Ayla, who kindly reminded me not to sit on the panther, despite the immense temptation. I feel like a different person since entering the Civic. I will forever be changed, and the better. Live long and prosper!

Saw Rock Folies in Wintergarden, was great fun, would recommend, especially if you like 70's music :)

My favourite theatre in the world so far. Entirely ornate from the theatre to the bar in an Arabian Nights theme, stars twinkle on the ceiling, seats are staggered so you can actually see. The holding area is decorated in the same them with grand staircases and multiple bar facilities. I love this theatre and go to as many shows as I can, whether a show, film or rock concert it is the perfect venue.

The Civic. No one venue for shows bar none. Seriously great atmosphere and I remember it from when I was young.... albeit with updated lighting etc. Just an amazing part of Aucklands history preserved for generations to come.

Really nice theatre. The sky detail in the ceiling is amazing as well as the gilded facade around the stage. Nice selection of treats and drinks. Well serviced with carparks and bus stops.

The Mighty Civic is a remarkable experience. Whether watching a show or a movie or attending a fabulous function, it's like nowhere else. Utterly memorable in its splendor, style and theatrical extravagance. Just go - you'll love it.

Went to see William Shatner at The Civic. It is a wonderful old theatre with the lion's eyes still sparkling. One man show for two hours and the sound was perfect as was the lighting and effects. Nice to be able to take wine and cider in and, while the seats are small and not the.modern armchair they were comfortable. Enjoyed ourselves immensely.

We just watched the Irish Celtic show which was amazing but I've got tell you...being in a wheelchair, the Civil was the best experience I've ever had. Hospitality was great and they have very wide spots for chairs as well as a companion seat next to you. We'll watch many more show's there now that I know my way around. Enjoy!

Superb venue for concerts and awards ceremonies. Its a beautiful building inside and out. A an old little little gem in the middle of a modern city

The good: The show was outstanding 5/5 for that aspect, and the venue looked amazing. Seating was comfortable and the sound and lighting were all fantastic. The ushers also provided great, friendly service. The not so good: At half time the ladies loo lines were about 60-70 people long, so clearly not.enough of those to cope with a sold out show. As a man I was fortunate to be able to fly through the mens. On the hydration front, there were cups stacked in various places indicating free water to be had, however there was no source of water to be found anywhere. Luckily the bar was happy to provide water (and anything else). All in all, good but not perfect by any means.

A beautiful theatre with an Arabian theme with lots of mingling room in the foyer. Seats are comfortable as far as theatres go. Thoroughly enjoyed seeing Matilda the Musical - a splendid show that blew my mind away. ‘Sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty!’

Omg, go upstairs and look at the art work! It is stunning! The ceiling is lit with stars and I can imagine kids finding it magic let alone a 27 year old! Staff are helpful and let you know where to sit! Always a great evening and show!

The Civic is a theatre that has an almost PERFECT atmosphere for Aladdin. It has a ceiling covered in twinkling lights that they actually turn on and off as a part of that particular production- almost creating an effect like that is a part of the set. The walls are covered in structure and relief like an Arabian nights. It was pretty magical night!

Theatre in the central city where all of the musical performances mostly held. Great décor and interior; feel and look very posh. Though it's not a must, dressing up with your evening attire will keep with the ambiance.

We had the best time, the production of Aladdin was amazing, only downside I suppose is that they let you buy a bottle of wine but you have to decant it into 4 cups. Bit is so we were left trying to find a space for them on the floor.

The Civic is amazing! Fantastic venue for live shows. Aladdin was wonderful. Colorful professional polished performance. The guy who played the genie stole the show! A must see at a great venue.

Beautiful place. Alot of stairs though and a pitty there's no bathrooms on the lower floor so you have to walk up the stairs but besides that awesome

Place is beautifully designed. Really nice theatre. Seen Aladdin and other awesome shows here. Just watch your step and use the hand rails. You'll see what I mean.

I grew up in Auckland (started 52 years ago) but have lived 10 years overseas. I have attended several live shows over the years and all are good and the Civic theatre amazing. This time I was there with my Wife, Daughter, and Mother, to see Cats. The show was great and the sound perfect. We recommend this theatre for any show, especially live shows. We visited September 2015.

Attended a film festival here - it's easy to get lost but staff were very helpful and guided you to your cinema hall. Beautifully decorated on the interior as well, pity my phone did not have enough battery to showcase this!

The show we saw "Beatles Abbey Road" was amazing. The group was soooo good. The theater was great.

Every thing was magical and beautiful, the ceiling and stars and decoration until dinner time when you could smell the food from surrounding restaurants. I think that beautiful place needs a better air ventilation.

The Civic Theatre is still amazing. Such a grand theatre which I miss now living out of Auckland. The next door under ground car park was a bit of a nightmare. Several pedestrian entries were locked which meant heaps of people trying to go to a few entrances to go downstairs all at once.

One of the most unique and beautiful theatres in the country. It's Atmospheric style means the auditorium feels like you're sitting outside at night, complete with a night sky and stars. It is one of the few theatres like it in the world, outside of the US. If you have the opportunity to see something here, do!

Auckland's premier performance arts arena. Always loved the interior decor of the place and cleaniless. Easy to purchase or pick up tickets. Service is always top notch. Food and drinks are expensive, but that is to be expected for venues like this in Auckland.

As a Cinema watching films the experience is ordinary. Seats are uncomfortable. Too narrow so late comers are annoying if you're sitting in the middle. Otherwise as a live entertainment venue there's not many places in Auckland that can match the Civic's nostalgic atmosphere

Civic is an Auckland icon and should never be destroyed like the St James theatre was. Great architecture and an amazing venue whcih used to be a movie theatre. Also featured in Peter Jackson's movie "King Kong". Has been restored to its original splendour including the night sky which some claim they saw a shooting star. A bit far fetched until I actually saw it, have no idea how they did that but you knew you weren't the only one that did from the "wow"s the crowd made. Anyway saw Warhorse production which we enjoyed!

An important part of Auckland city! This theatre has held many big name musical productions over the years. They have maintained their audiovisual equipment very well. Acoustics and size of the theatre is good enough.

The Civic is a wonderful theatre, which is technically an atmospheric theatre. It's one of very few left in the world! What this means is that it is very heavily themed in the decor in a way that is designed to enhance the experience of theatregoers. There is also the most incredible ceiling in the theatre with stars (and thd odd shooting star) which is turned on prior to every show. Underneath the Civic are function rooms which are available for things like weddings. These are beautifully decorated as well. You can book tours of the Civic if you're into that sort of thing where you get to go backstage and into all the extra bits and pieces, and these are super interesting and tell you lots about the history of the theatre.

I have gone to a couple productions at The Civic. I think it is a great venue-intimate and full of character. I would love to take a back stage/room tour sometime.

The interior looks amazing. Watched Aladdin with my family. Has a real magical feel to it. Sometimes I feel very squashed in and cramped up in thearters but wasn't the case here.

Delightful trip in to History. The Civic Theatre was built at the beginning of the 20th Century and the decor remains as true to the original as possible. Her trip through time has included clubs to entertain visiting American Servicemen, Traditional Stage Shows, a Movie Theatre, a Dance Club and More. The famed Sky Ceiling was part of the original decor and has lowered many artists up and down to or from the stage. Well worth a visit. There is nothing quite like seeing a show at the Civic Theatre. It doesn't matter if the show is good or Bad, the promenade, the waiting bars, bring us back to another age. As you enter the Theatre from the stairs you glance up at that magic sky and you are transported to a world of fantasy!

Seeing a show in this magnificent theatre is always a great experience.

Atmosphere and history. Great venue anf a fantastic performance of Jersey boys

I have been to The Civic 4 or 5 times. In all cases it has been a pleasing experience. The bar tenders seem to be from some temp agency or something which is not a bad thing if it provides jobs. If they are employed directly by the venue then I would say there is room for improvement. The ushers in my last experience have been the best so far. Circle C on the 14th of Oct. Also the door people were a pleasure. The best thing is that the atmosohere is so good. Its so old school. But its modernly designed that way. Where many theatres actively tried to rid the image of traditional atmosphere in favour of modern minimalism, The Civic was remodelled to look ridiculously snobby... and i love it.

Love this venue. No matter where you sit you usually have a good view of the stage. They always have awesome shows on here and the sets are very impressive.

The Civic is a world renowned example of an Atmospheric Theatre. Decorated throughout with exotic Turkish and Indian style plaster work, the building is a destination in itself. As an added bonus, this stunning building is a well equipped theatre which hosts the biggest touring and local stage shows in Auckland.

As always a great experience. Unfortunately like always the hospitality ques are soooooo long. Hard to be happy with a 20 min wait to get a Coke. So many people asking questions as pricing for items not visible.

Staff very helpful. Access very good, seating even better. Great show, not enough superlatives to express the brilliance of the performance, the cast, and those behind the scenes.

Love the place. Fond memories from my childhood. Had to wait too long to buy a drink and overpriced ice cream. Go to convenience store around the corner to buy your half-time ice cream. Half the price and no wait. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars

We came to The Civic today to see Priscilla with my 94 year old Nana in a wheelchair. We were greeted straight away by the friendliest staff member who explained exactly what we needed to do and took us to the best place to wait for our seats. Then we were led to our seats by another great staff member, who was kind and patient, as was the woman who helped us at the end. It's so hard taking an immobile person to a show with crowds etc and the staff made it such a breeze, treating her with kindess and respect. Thanks Civic peeps, you rock!!!

An iconic theatre that I love to visit. One of only two theatres of its tour left in the world I believe. If you have the time, and are lucky, try to do one of the theatre tours that are held occasionally.

Saw Matilda here. Brilliant show. As for the theatre, it was beautiful and stately and the staff at the box office were very friendly and helpful and gave us tips about where to go on North Island.

Went to Matilda... OMG, it was amazing. The Civic is a fantastic venue, the sound and lighting were flawless, I felt comfortable and engaged throughout, never distracted by the fittings - sign of a good setting.

Went to see NY dance company. Had fantastic seats. Show was outstanding. Theatre staff polite and helpful. And it is such a beautiful theatre.

A thoroughly excellent venue utterly on point in every way, and in addition, as a fairly tall person (6'5") I found the theater very comfortable too!

The civic is eerie... In a good old Timey way... And super magical still... As a child I was convinced I could see the night sky. Love coming here whenever I can because its so special.

Some seating with poor view of the stage. Programs are too expensive. Just returned from UK , where we saw Miss Saigon and the similar programs were £5 which would be about $10. The Civic is a lovely theatre though.

A bit hard with a busted knee with all the steps (chose seats before I hurt my knee) as there is a lot of stairs but a beautiful venue to watch a show.

The Civic theatre itself is worth the visit, but when you add live orchestra to film in that setting it is amazing

This building is an example of amazing architecture that has been meticulously restored. Really worth a visit.
