What a fantastic venue. The interior is superb, sound was excellent, easy to move around it. Loved it!

31Jul19 1810 Four stars but nearly five because the snack bar took ten minutes to find the wine my wife ordered and the men's toilets despite being very clean needed more disinfectant. A small and beautiful movie theater built in the 20th century the Avondale Hollywood is a wonderful, cosy, venue. The space-restricted reception/foyer/lobby is ideal for meeting friends a few minutes before the start of a movie. Extremely clean inside the theater itself, the sound quality is very good. The seats are original 20th century movie theater furniture so prepare yourself for thinnish arm rests and spacious seat squabs. Tonight my wife and I came here to see an Auckland Film Festival movie. It was awful. But the friendly theater staff, awesome popcorn and tasty ginger ale were top class.

Great place, cheap wine, good movies. Seats aren't comfortable but hey that's expected at an old cinema!

It was amazing loved it so much, love the old architecture loved the atmosphere, the staff were amazing ill definitely be returning, thanks Hollywood Cenima and Haunted Auckland for the experience

The ticketing process isn't terribly clear if you've purchased online. Queued at the counter for 5 mins before getting told we didn't have to. Not being allowed to bring your own snacks or drinks into the theatre seems a bit mean spirited, especially being told to throw out my bottle of water. But I guess they want to sell you there stuff at inflated prices. It's the one really sour note in what is otherwise a great place. The theatre itself is great, many original features. Visual and audio is pretty good, and it's fun watching all the old trailers while waiting for the main feature.
