Reviews of The Vic Devonport
B.
We were in cinema 1 and it was a real treat compared to the standard chain cinemas. Art Deco surround, chandelier, and some couch seating available. The 5 year old and I had a great time. We will be back in the future! I can see cinema 1 working really well for events with guest speakers as well.
S.
It’s important, more than ever that we support these historic theatres’. More recently, I have overlooked the main chain cinemas’ to find escape in one of these amazing places. The Vic always has something on I want to see, the service excellent and pricing competitive. That’s what keeps me coming back….
G.
Recent experiences include great film with small audience, niche film with tiny audience, packed house for the big bike film night, and live rock concert with a packed house. This place does it all with wines and ice cream on top.
S.
Absolutely brilliant. First time experience at this cinema, one word.........amazing. A friendly local service that's a must to experience.
n.
Awesome place, lovely staff who are super friendly. comfy theater seats and decent as ice creams and Gelatos ...
R.
Lovely little boutique cinema with good prices. Could do with some maintenance or facelift soon.
C.
Needs more recognition very lovely place to take your family to the movies
U.
Came here for the gelato, and it was fabulous!
The salted caramel/choco is a good option if you like sweet, and raspberry is a good one for those who prefer fruity sweet & sour kind of flavor
N.
Watched Summer of Soul..no other movie house played it...if you are into music..then S of S.. is a good history lesson
R.
The owner and staff are awesome! Great selection of food and drinks too
P.
Such a quirky place. Thanks for hosting the Dutch movies
Е.
Great ice creams and true old fashioned cinema experience
J.
Love our Vic Movie experience and always helpful staff as we gather the yummies!
V.
It's a proper beach but gets deep quickly. The pontoon is quite far
L.
Went to see rocky horror show production. Had the time of my life. 2nd time going. Recommended for all ages over 18. Need a laugh and some fun attend one of these production
K.
Best cinema - we will be back.
S.
Great historic venue, great staff, a wonderful experience.
H.
Love the old style look
M.
I used to be a patron in the 70s/80s when it was one big theatre. In as much as I would love to see it in all its former glory, I understand how and why it transformed into what it is today.
I’m just very grateful this piece of history (and all the wonderful experiences we had there) are still there to be enjoyed today.
I live in Australia now and this part of my “nostalgia tour” was definitely a highlight. The Vic’s historical information on display for tragics like me was a nice touch. Thank you!
P.
Lovely cinema , saw a few good films the memory of which has been enhanced by having seen them in such pleasant surroundings - the little auditorium with a few rows was especially endearing. It became our Tuesday afternoon treat while we were in Auckland , as we could pay for our tickets at the ferry port and use all inclusive of the fare for the ferry as well - a very good deal. Had quite poor service at the bar once but will let that fly in this instance as great memories of the place altogether !
C.
What a little gem! Stunningly private cinemas, I attended a viewing where I was the only one in the theatre! Bit surreal if I'm honest. Staff were lovely, atmosphere felt like a trip back to the non-commercialised days of cinema. Loved my experience here, I'll be back for sure.
M.
Loved the historical cinema atmosphere. The staff was friendly and informative. Much cleaner and more comfortable than chain cinemas. Very kid friendly.
T.
Love the intimacy of this theater and the off beat films you can catch there. Happy service from the bar staff but the manager on that night was abrupt. A few good IPAs on tap were appreciated.
R.
An historic and wonderful building, plenty of choice of movies. Good value when combined with Fullers ferry tickets. Delicious wines too to enjoy during the show.
D.
Lovely old fashioned cinema. We had a great day here and hope to visit again on our next trip to Auckland
A.
Awesome place and friendly staffs 🙏🙏❤
D.
The best little local cinema. A great selection of movies. Wonderful community facility.
n.
Sit back in a comfy seat with a snack or glass of wine and enjoy one of the many varied movies/documentaries on offer. The Vic has been my theatre of choice for fifty years..and counting.
S.
Gorgeous wee cinema. I've watched both movies in the small and large cinemas and shows in both theatres. They sell really yum gelato here which is worth a trip for that alone and the staff are super friendly. I've had a good experience during all of my visits, highly recommended.
R.
I took the family here yesterday and it was a real outing! We were in screen 3 which is a grand old dame of auditorium. I love this place and am so glad that it exists 106 years later - charming, warm and friendly!
L.
Really nice place to go.
C.
Great old school theatre with a variety of art films and blockbusters... Also a great destination, arrive early and spend a bit of time wandering around Devonport.. just makes the whole experience so much more that a trip to the movies!
C.
Fantastic movie theater...old school with modern technology. Very comfortable seats the best icecream selection. Staff is very friendly and helpful. 😁
d.
I love to goto the movies at the Vic.
My family and l go regularly
We buy a glass of wine and have a super relaxing nite
Its a special place
T.
Quaint movie theatre in Devonport village. Great selection of films from festival to mainstream. Lots of parking options around. You can take your wine or other drinks and food into the theatre with you. It's not the most modern or biggest screen you can find, but it's lovely and has lots of character. I always have a great time when I go here.
B.
The Vic is a quaint, homey cinema in a lovely old Devonport building. I love the rustic feel of the place and the quality of the cinema itself as well as it's products. The staff are friendly and professional, and the bar next door is a great place to kick back afterwards.
M.
One of the most beautiful buildings in Devonport which is a reminder of a great era of building design. Have visited Devonport many times on holiday but must next time enjoy a film.
C.
Lovely two young men at the counter, one of their names was Tim, can't quite remember... Went to see LaLa Land, great film in the quaint cinema 2 which has a very cosy feel. Only critique would be a dark haired man who I assume is their boss, seemed very stressed and stern towards his workers.., overall, great cinema, great experience, will definitely be back.
B.
Very nice art deco cinema with a bar adjacent. The oldest still used one in the Southern Hemisphere! Quite a trip to get to but you could have a scenic ferry ride from Auckland CBD. Sometimes movies are slow to start or even break. But don’t worry you are on Devonport time :-)
R.
Cute movie theatre. It's old - which is it's charm and it's disadvantage. It doesn't feel very clean but it has a lot of character. However, seeing a movie at the Vic is part of the perfect evening in Devonport, after a walk along the water and a meal at one of the great restaurants nearby.
M.
Awesome theater, great atmosphere, really nice staff and the owner is gr8 to chat with.
F.
Went to check movie times and they have all adult movie times on eArly in the evening and children/family movies on later on around 820 and 845pm Doesn’t make sense lol... I am also editing as A reply to vic cinemas ( first of all if this is how u talk to your customers maybe u need to rethink your job) beware of misery shopper btw!! And it was the school holidays when this happened. And I have recently gone back the customer service was good but there was one staff member on a very busy Tuesday afternoon and the cinema smelt very musty.. so star rating I guess I could put as a three for the poor guy and his good customer service that day
g.
This place is sensational old world brilliant
A.
Charming and old worldy.
Slow service due to all services in one area (coffee, tickets, everything seems to have to go through one person). Not sure how they manage when it's busy.
m.
Was easy to book ahead. Comfy seats, delish ice cream, clean toilets. Super friendly staff.
r.
Ladies in Black is a very entertaining film. Good character portrail. Excelent acting skills. Nostalgic look at at 1958 Sydney. Does not depend on violence or sex scenes, just good storyline and good acting.
J.
During the week so had cinema all to myself, loved it going again soon as out of lockdwn😉
D.
Good selection of the latest movies, comfy seats, the oldest operating cinema in the southern hemisphere. Quaint, charming, c'mon what more could you ask for. Ps being back tangy fruits
F.
Great and comfortable venue. Staff were very nice as well.
M.
Seniors alert! This cinema offers the best prices on the shore, what better reason to support the Old Vic. Plus we are contributing to the upkeep of the wonderful old building!
C.
Love the simple yet historical nature of this theatre. Only 3 theatres.
L.
Best cool movie theater ever. And best ice cream! What a great experience. Oldest theater in the southern hemisphere!
H.
No parking but it's worth a small walk. The historic theatre offers nice seating with grand rooms, and it's nice to support local businesses.
L.
Lovely seats and a great theater, good selection of food, well worth a vist
A.
Not the best Cinema but they are a lot closer if you live in Devonport and saves me having to go to Takapuna to watch a movie. They usually have the movies I want to see but occasionally they don't but It's not a big deal.
C.
Great movie theatre with very helpful staff.
E.
The best gelato in Auckland!
E.
Old style cinema. Stay in Auckland, take the ferry to Devonport, eat fish and chips on the front, go to the cinema - have an ice cream whilst there, watch the film, have a beer on the way back to the ferry. Need more?
A.
A full of character independent cinema in the old town of Devonport. Parking can be challenging in this area. The recently decorated interior lift up the ambience.
l.
Our local theatre, great place, we get all the current movies and also live music, many local groups do fundraisers. Keeping it local.
N.
Beautiful old cinema. Independently run and well worth a visit. I think we'll make it our go to theatre.
E.
I love this old historic building.. The only downside is there is no parking... If you are prepared to walk then it's well worth the effort.
S.
Saw the film 'Poppy', work out for yourself who is really 'disabled'in this film,it may not be what you are expecting.
A.
Absolutely delicious dairy free chocolate gelato that I will think about probably forever.
G.
Great little theatre. Good screens. Good sound. Comfortable seats. Pleasant and helpful staff

J.
Nice and cool on a hot day. We had cinema to ourselves.
J.
Great local movie theatre. Food and beverages available. Ice cream superb. Service always with a smile.
J.
Watch the curtain go up to watch your movie!
If you don't want to pay into big corporate movie theatres then go here!
Everything a normal theatre has so go check it out and support the locals!
T.
Great spot for a retro night out. Only 4 stars instead of 5 because the limited wine - list is also uppish in price.
P.
Great little cinema. Friendly staff. It's the oldest in the southern hemisphere. Gives a great olde worlde feel.
B.
Great local cinema, except they've replaced comfortable seating with hard new stuff
V.
Yes it is an ideal place for locals and visitors for unwinding and enjoy a movie experience!
J.
Another excellent experience of The Vic. Just seen '1917'. Great movie and good coffee.
E.
Edgy movies all year round good for fundraising
P.
We saw the movie The Post which was a bit hard going we thought greatly helped by the quality of the actors. Unfortunately there was a party going on downstairs at The Vic and we could hear the thumping music.
r.
Disappointing. Seats not good. Bridgeway and Hoyts Whangaparaoa better cinemas. Also took a $1 donation without any mention of it
K.
Beautiful vintage cinema, shows the best of indie and major films. Great date location imo
B.
Lovely place with such kind and friendly staff. Really beautiful building.
M.
Relaxing character filled theater with Devonport heritage - there's no wheelchair access which is my only criticism.
J.
Auckland coolest movie theatre with an old school feel. Great deals combining movie, food, drinks and ferry.
L.
Didn't see a movie but the Gelato is fabulous 👌
D.
It was fantastic, like watching a movie at home
A.
Quaint theatre. Not sure this is an accessible venue--theatres are all up several flights of stairs and didn't see an elevator.
G.
Good vibes and great movie selections
R.
A truly wonderful place. My favourite picture theatre.
A.
Charming old cinema with spectacular homemade ice-cream which is worth the trip to Devonport alone!
k.

S.
The dairy free chocolate gelato is nect level
M.
Nice small cinema. Bit of a change compared to big brands.
S.
Part of our history, so liked it, the cinema 4 was very old and noisy...you can hear reception noise....
T.
Lovely old cinema with great character. Also get a ferry + movie deal with Fullers.
r.
Best value for seniors on the shore. Good coffee and ample parking
T.
Such a cool vibe to this old theater.

Very cute little cinema, perfect for a quiet romantic date 😊

Too many advertisements before film. Chairs in back row need replacing seat cushioning.
