Great campsite, plenty of space. Access to some beautiful walks. Dog friendly, pays to check info regarding recent 1080 drops before you go.
No cell service (Vodafone) but that adds to the beauty of it!
Camp caretaker was friendly and helpful, often seen out and about so easily approachable if you have any queries or issues. Did check for vaccine passport, in line with DOC guidelines.

Had an absolutely awesome time camping here with friends with tons of lovely walks to be had around.
Amazing campsite and extremely well priced. Highlight was being able to use the firepit!
10/10 would come back in future.
E.
Wonderful bush walks, swimming holes, and camping areas, facilities and toilets. Beautiful bush back drops. Will certainly go back again 😊
R.
Awesome relaxing weekend. Plenty of bush walks, cool river to cool down in, friendly Ranger. What's not to like
K.
Cool place to camp at, has many walking trails to choose from, however our “20 minute” walk turned into nearly an hour so i don’t know whether we read the sign wrong (or took the wrong trail) or the time on the sign was inaccurate 🤷🏽♀️ but we had a good time. The drive from Masterton to here is short and there no 10 million kilometres of gravel road haha choice!

Wow. This is an awesome camp site. Sitting alongside a river with walks and close buy swimming water holes. Also being a doc campsite it is cheap. About 1/3 the price of commercial campsites. Please note: there is no cell phone reception. Also missing is showers, but if you go for a swim each day its fine. Also no power. Toilets and fresh drinking tap water are dotted around the campsite. Took our family of 5 with another family of 5 and loved it.

For a DOC camp it's great the walks are different grades. We did the shorts walks. Easy and peaceful. If you love birds there are plenty.
I.

Great place to visit.
We took our caravan there and really enjoyed ourselves and our stay there.
Well worth coming to see and stay.
J.
Great camp site, good place to switch off and enjoy your camping experience along with options for many walks or a dip in the river right there.
B.
Very big campsite. Few bathroom and picnic tables. Perfect for one night. Must be really good but busy during summer time. Start of the track to Powell Hut or Jumbo Hut.
E.
When I think of this place I think pain. But that is because I usually only come up here to go on duke of Edinburgh tramps. That's the point of tramping though right? -the physical exertion. It is a super cool and gorgeous place that I do love-despite the fact I cry as soon as I get to those rocky look out stairs. You definitely should take your family up to ariwhakatu hut

Didn't stay at the camping ground, but it looked like a great place to stay. There was a river for bathing, a long drop, proper loos, and a lodge.
The climb to Holdsworth Lookout is for intermediate to advanced trekkers as the climb is quite steep. We continued a little further along the path and we stopped to watch the beautiful fantails and finches singing and dancing in the trees nearby. Would definitely go back to take the big 5hr, 1498m climb to Mt Holdsworth :)
C.
A nice walk in Masterson. There is a river near to camping ground. Good condition path to walk till Rocky Lookout. (I didnt go further😊)

Thoroughly recommend Mt Holdsworth for all fitness levels. Loads of great flat walks to the river and to the lower huts. Good challenging walks up to Rock Lookout (quick) or for a bit of a workout try Powell Hutt.
E.
This is a great camping ground. No cellphone reception so can completely escape. Its still only a hop skip and a jump into Masterton if you forget anything or your air bed goes flat!
B.
Rocky lookout is a worthwhile walk 👌
