S.Lovely cosy theatre. Great if you don't like going to the larger cinema's. Discount for seniors and students. Very affordable.
Great parking.
D.Enjoyed the film. But charged $26 altho a senior as Andre Rui is a Special Interest film.
Lights were very slow to come on at interval and at end of film also.
R.Nice staff. Good size cinemas for a more intimate movie experience. They need to keep the temperature at a comfortable 18 to 20 degrees year round as it's almost always too hot in cinemas whether it's winter or summer.

C.Love the movies they play. Nice cosy and intimate interior. Heloful staff. Usual issye at movies: you have pre bought, have your code ready on your phone to get your printed ticket and you get stuck behind people buying coffees. Should be a line for pre bought tickets or technology which allows scan and print which customers can access without waiting for staff availability.
V.Very friendly, warm, inviting & quaint cinema. Quite busy for a Friday afternoon. A lovely treat or my friend and i with a nice 🍷 to add to the treat.The lady serving us was very chatty. Love this local!

L.Lovely and clean. However, for people coming from out of town who do not know the area, the signage to the theater is terrible. We walked along Colombo St from our hotel and then went into the mall entrance. There was no signage in there at all to tell us the direction and the weird honeycomb map on an outside wall was simply confusing. Also, they allocated the patrons seats without allowing for social distancing.
B.Just watched "The Father" starring Anthony Hopkins. This would be one of the most moving films I have ever seen. Academy has the cream of movies, friendly staff is compact and very comfortable. Highly recommended.

M.Quaint theatre. Small cosy theatre. Leave top part of ticket on car to avoid ticket. No popcorn but great ice cream. Arty films. Great staff.
C.Great little boutique cinema. Great selection of cool and art house movies and a neat atmosphere. Spacious and relaxing foyer with leather armchairs and wooden tables. You can also get craft beers, great wines and wee luxury items like hand made fudge and cookies, hand rolled ice creams etc. But don't go looking for buckets popcorn or post-mix fizzy on tap, this is a classy joint for grown-ups.

L.Great size picture theatre - not too large and over-whelming for my 5 year old daughter. Seating was comfortable and spacious.
Would have liked a larger variety of snacks to buy; next time we will come prepared.
K.If you prefer movies that aren't in the blockbuster category then this is the movie theater for you. They always features a wide selection of "indie" type movies that are popular with the older generation - which is fine with me as I probably fall in that category. The theaters are small with very comfortable seating. The usual range of refreshments are available in the foyer and bookings can be made on line.
J.A great wee boutique cinema.nice goodies to buy such as lovely ice creams and coffee but even better 3 boys craft beer. Very nice seats a perfect date night !!

J.Great overall with art house and some main more stream movies, and great choices of drinks. Wide seat aisles also appreciated but wished that NZ seat backs could move some to ease back pains.
N.Nice venue but food offering was not great. I would suggest taking your own food (cheese and crackers perhaps as they sell wine)
A.Comfortable seats and very clean cinemas. Great coffee and wine. We went Sunday evening and the staff were great, service fantastic, the lady was very knowledgeable about the movies and sent us to a great movie. We will be back!
W.Very comfortable, with carpeted foyer and lounge chairs whilst waiting, and cinemas with cozy large seats, good lighting at foot level. Helpful assistance was given to elderly, less mobile patrons. Ground level access straight from carpark is helpful.
E.The boutique cinema is good, but beware the parking: can only park in the 120 or 240 minute spaces (near the Belgium beer place) and have to display the top 1/2 of your movie ticket in the car so you don't get in trouble.

J.This is a very good cinema. Not huge but well appointed. 3 screens. We enjoy going there.

B.Drove around a bit to find the cinema behind Colombo St. Very nice setting, atmosphere, seating, facilities are standard, drinks and snacks nice but limited. It seems strange that parking is 1_2hours, when any movie is longer than that. Maybe this is due to demand during the day. Seems parking is not enforced at night as there were lots of people in a nowhere near full large car park.
M.For me Academy Gold Cinema is one of the best little secrets Christchurch has to offer. Great choice of films (not your run-of-the-mill shoot-ups or sugared romances), small intimate cozy theaters, good choice of wine, coffee, and/or ice cream, and great service! A great pick-me-up! Ah, and what about Met operas and London National Theater programmes? Art series? Thank you, Academy Gold!
J.Comfortable, spacious seating, friendly helpful staff and prices are very reasonable, especially with Gold Card discount. Also a really good selection of movies.

T.Very cozy place for catching a movie. Not the place to get the latest and greatest image and sound quality and the theaters themselves are also quite small. All of that doesn't matter too much if the movie is good, though.
V.Have to agree with Kate. Would like to give you 5 stars for ambiance and move selection, but the booking system is 100% rubbish like Kate says and doesn't work half of the time. It has taken me 30 minutes at times with the system timing out etc. I now live and work nearby so usually I just go to the box office in my lunch time to get tickets. There must be a better system you can use, or ditch online booking altogether and allow phone bookings instead. I like going there but the experience is always tainted by the annoying booking system. I hope you are going to do something about this soon.
C.Very nice, boutique cinema, I like how small it is, it feels almost homely, you can even buy a beer on site and drink it in the cinema 😁
T.Not the greatest service in the world. The doors opened 10 minutes late without indication whether the cinema was empty or not. It was very average for an upmarket movie theatre, except that it had the movie that we wanted.
s.I loved the movie and the theater. Sound was not to loud like the bigger places but with people drinking it smelt like a brewery.

K.The cinema is great but their booking website is useless. I have tried so many times to book tickets for the architectural films. I only managed to book one out of 6. When I went to look at my booking history nothing came up so that doesn't give me any reassurance that I actually have booked seats

r.Home of the “British Gems” i.e “any movie starring Dame Judi Dench & Maggie Smith. Loved by the Oldies so book tickets early, they pack it pretty quick!
