Reviews of Isaac Theatre Royal
S.
A stunning looking theatre, absolutely gorgeous detail inside. Far bigger than I realised it was until I arrived and found out from a staff member it'll comfortably seat 1100 with the two circles open.
Staff were very friendly, informative and accomodating. The seating is comfortable and arranged in an offset style to maximise viewing and reducing the possibility you'll be stuck behind a tall person restricting your view.
The bathrooms are very nice, well maintained and clean at all times I visited them
M.
Iconic building that has amazing music, theatre and dance. You feel special attending a show. Check out the ceilings and chandelier. Often not allowed to take photos during show and ushers vigilant.
Best go upstairs for a toilet. 4 shared down and 11 women upstairs, not sure on men's. Always cues before and at half time at all of them. Good selection at bar and reasonable $$.
Parking areas close but best to get there early. Hope they pave parking soon (not theatre responsibility).
S.
A piece of history. A gem. Perfect for concerts, live theatre and stand up. Great staff, comfy seats and stunning art deco
J.
Saw John Prine here last night and had an amazing time! The theatre is beautiful, so incredibly restored, and there isn’t a bad seat in the house! Such a fantastic and intimate concert, really had such an incredible experience! Thank you!
A.
Grand old theater, beautiful building and worthy the effort of the restoration..
took part of the "Pink Floyd Experience" tribute from the Stalls row S ( balcony above imposed a little bit of the overall view - but otherwise fine )
D.
This is one very old and beautiful theatres in town. It's a huge grand theatre with great sounds for music 3 levels of seating where everyone gets a view of what's going on. there is wheelchair access they also have a bar and come round with ice creams at half time sorry I only had a video of this place no pictures It's also lovely and warm inside .
A.
Magnificent place, high level of service from all the staff members, felt very welcomed and comfortable I went to watch The Piano The Ballet Concert, just fantastic... highly recommended!
D.
Great event, very well managed by all the staff on the day. Felt very safe in there hands. Covid, well done & done well.
C.
A must see. Beautifully refurbished. A trip back in time. 💯
M.
Absolutely amazing place to see a movie. Giant screen, comfortable seats, amazing sound and the place is absolutely beautiful. The staff are very polite and helpful.
A.
Beautiful venue. Very helpful and polite ushers. Bars and toilets on every level
f.
An amazing piece of history, restored after the Christchurch Earthquake, to it's former glory. Posh and elegant looking, bonus is the shows which feature..well done for saving this building and allowing future generations to share with making ongoing use the love of theater.
J.
Gotta separate the venue from the event we attended there(which was five star) The upside .... it is a beautifully restored old building. On the down side - a 20 min interval and sub optimal venue logistics made it impossible to make both a toilet stop and have a drink in the allotted time. Plus paying big money for a ticket and then only able to choose very mediocre wine, served in plastic 'glasses'. Mmmm... Just no. they did have glasses but by the time you queued for the toilet they would only serve plastic because they don't allow actual glass in the theatre. Cited health and safety but other venues don't have a problem so ???
A.
This is a beautiful old theatre which was lovingly restored after the 2011 earthquakes extensively damaged it. Sir Ian McKellen, the English actor, contributed enormously to its restoration by raising money touring all over Aotearoa performing Shakespearean excerpts and telling tales of his life.
K.
The theater is a grand old building (lovingly restored after the 2011 earthquakes). The facilities are good and the staff are always friendly. I've been to a few performances there and have always found the seat comfortable, however the leg room is a little tight.
I recommend going to show here if you can.
C.
Lovely building, beautifully restored. Tip if seeing a show, there are not many toilets downstairs and always massive queues - head upstairs to 1st flr literally quadruple the amount of toilets.
I think wheelchair seating upstairs better as downstairs you are right at back of theatre and very hard to see over other people's heads & if they stand up your screwed.
S.
Your staff was awesome, particularly your doorman greeting people on the street. We had a great night at Tami Neilson. Thank you.
l.
I'm not going to comment on the show I attended but the venue itself - WOW!!!
Issac Theatre Royal was all but completely destroyed in the events of Feb 2011.
But WOW - what an amazing restoration/rebuild job - absolutely amazing. This city has a concert venue they can be proud of.
D.
Fantastic night with showtime Australia again.I Never miss on of there tribute shows
J.
Awesome venue every time we go. Great vision and great acoustics.
Great range of drinks for half time. Easy exit when the show finishes.
T.
Comfortable seats and temperature. Gallery has good view. Acoustic very satisfactory. Loved the performance Marriage of Figaro
A.
Place is great but they need to work on preventing late people constantly coming in and ruining the first few songs. You know in most other places they don't let people in during a song and hurry them in when the current song has ended? Please try it
L.
Stunning renovations make this historic building a Christchurch treasure. A beautiful setting for a wedding and shows.
J.
Brilliant showing of Rocky Horror movie. Poor cleaners have a big job tonight
P.
First live music here in six munths grate to be up running again
B.
The theatre is really wonderful and immensely suited to the shows it hosts.
The technology & performers of this event wete really great, but i felt the sound mixing timbre, tone made the presentation rather flat, uninspiring.
c.
Lovely inside the building. Such a shame the seats are so close together, and there's basically no leg room, so you have to stand up everything someone wants to get out.
L.
Stunning restored theater. Been here for a few concerts and find the sound accoustics very good
S.
Such a beautiful theatre. We are so fortunate to have it so well restored following the earthquakes.
D.
Excellent theater has had recent refurbishment that is top of the line for a heritage building I was very impressed with the quality of the finish.
Combines new with old very well, with bar on each level means wait time to be served is very short. Pleased with the air conditioning under seats is a very nice touch.
Fantastic shows and high level of volunteers on board as well, always seemed to be someone there to help.
P.
Beautiful theatre but you really need an Isle down the centre for both convenience but more importantly safety. I am really surprised that this is not a health and safety issue. If someone were to experience a medical emergency in the middle rows, it could be a disaster.
L.
This place has been beautifully restored after the quake, always glad when an act I want to see is at this venue
K.
Such a beautiful building. A definite must see if you are in Christchurch.
D.
This is such a beautiful building, the perfect venue for my first opera, the marriage of figaro. Amazing performances too!
G.
What an amazing venue. We were late getting our tickets to the Swan Lake Ballet, so we had a seat right up the top. Surprisingly we didn't feel like we had missed out on anything. The acoustics were terrific and we could see everything.
It was a wonderful experience
I.
Just the right elegant and comfortable setting for a beautiful setting of the Marriage of Figaro. Full house of appreciative Opera fans
P.
Superb Theatre set in the heart of Christchurch. Good views of the stage. Welcome to the 1910s
M.
What a great place! First time patron. Loved the vibe. Loved the show 'We Will Rock You'.
N.
What a great experience a performance of New Zealand Ballet....so so good. What a great venue Isaac Theatre refurbished and excellent service and staff. Bathroom facilities very good for disabled people.
M.
Absolutely amazing theatre great all the hard work to save this beautiful building for people to enjoy has paid off.
L.
Lovely building. Saw a film there for the NZIFF
P.
We had a wonderful evening, "The Shows Must Go On" was fabulous. The Isaac Theatre Royal is a wonderful place. The only negative was the cramped seating, rather difficult when people needed to get past.
G.
If you are in Christchurch you have to see this theatre. Totally rebuilt to its original splendor.
T.
Great little spot for some amazing performances. Enjoyed seeing a few things recently. Seats are comfy, but we were a bit cold when we were in the front row.
Some staff are amazing - entertaining kids in a line while waiting for the doors to open, some seem to think they are working in a very high class establishment with a snooty attitude.
K.
What a fantastic night - keep up the theme nights team - oh and that's for the opportunity to get the crowd to sing along lol
N.
Beautiful old building, comfortable and warm. The theatre is well equipped and stage was easy to see. We didn't enjoy the story line of the production we saw but everything else about the experience was wonderful.
P.
Great venue, fantastic staff
S.
Attended a great concert recently. We booked online and found it confusing to book seating as the online booking system was tricky to navigate. The venue is gorgeous visually and the sound was clear. Will try and avoid the top circle on the second level too far away from the stage. Hope to attend more shows there.
J.
Fantastic staff. While we were at the Postmodern Jukebox tour, mum felt very sick. The staff were very attentive till end of the show.
The venue is wonderful but the seating is very tight. You end up rubbing shoulders with the people beside you.
K.
Went to see Bread and Circus.
Beautiful venue.
However the lighting director needs to be sacked. Why ? Because we spent 95% of the evening blinded by the row of spotlights at the back of the stage shining directly at us, especially the 3rd light from the right. It affected many many people who spent the evening covering their eyes. The acts sounded great, just couldnt bloody see them! For a show like this it is crucial that we can see.
Despite multiple requests for this to be rectified it appeared nothing was done.
The lights could have just been pointed straight up then there would have been no issues at all.
So very very disappointed. I'd like my money back.
E.
Enjoyed Les Misérables and Nutcracker with Isaac Theatre Royal before.Definitely will come back.
J.
This venue is great for musicals and I go quite frequently. It's a lovely old theatre beautifully restored. The facilities are good (wheelchair access. They have a lift), and located close by are a number of eating places. Parking is also available in nearby streets along with paid carparks.
C.
Beautiful place! Easy to get around, great service and comfortable seating.
A.
This place is stunning both inside and outside. It's so cool we managed to preserve this in Christchurch.
S.
Amazing historic building. Thoroughly enjoyed the ushers help & great customer service.
m.
Lovely old fashioned style but with up to date features. Beautifully decorated.
C.
Beautiful theatre and great acoustics.
I.
This is a beautifully restored theatre and I have been here numerous times since its reopening; I was inspired to after attending Sir Ian McKellen's fund raising tour for this theatre in 2012 that he so enjoyed performing at previously.
The engineering precision taken to achieve optimum seating plans for viewing, on three tiers, are quite remarkable and, similarly, hide earthquake proof construction behind the scenes, to safeguard the building for many years to come.
With excellent access for wheelchairs, a new lift system and bars available on all three levels, it is a gem of a theatre.
I have enjoyed every type of show here, from large scale West End productions, to comedians and musical concerts - the latest being Elaine Page and her jazzy band, just two days ago. Add wonderful acoustics to the mix and this theatre deserves every touring show it can attract and all the patrons it can possibly muster.
T.
Just so beautiful 😍 seats are soo tight fitting though.
J.
Great place to watch live music or theater 🎭.
R.
Love this venue for live music, dance, and theatre performances. Plus recently saw a full length movie on a big screen as part of the film festival. Beautifully restored after suffering major damage in the 2011 earthquakes.
J.
Great shows, great location and fabulous interior decor
N.
Lovely theatre, bigger inside than it looks from out
R.
As we all know the theatre is great a city treasure...the Waratahs and friends were good as the standing ovation recognized go there it's a good experience
D.
Wonderful classical theatre, beautifully restored. Great for musicals, ballet, general theatre productions. Worth a visit just to the see the architecture
S.
Stunning atmosphere for films and live shows. Make sure you know what seats you're booking as a few in the back of the stalls could have limited viewing. The majority of the seats have a fabulous view and the ushers are always helpful - right from the gentleman who has greeted us at the door through to the lovely people who show you where your seats are.
C.
The Isaac Theatre Royal is an Edwardian performing arts theatre. She was lovingly restored after the Christchurch earthquakes. A grand old dame, she's worthy of a visit for her own beauty.
V.
Very nice theatre. My only gripe would be lack of leg room between seats. Make sure you have gone to the toilet beforehand, otherwise you won't be popular when you have to make 20 people stand up twice halfway through a show.
J.
Excellent presentation, beautiful inside and out. Lovely staff and fantastic facilities. High quality movie presentation as well as stage shows. A must go for any visitors to Christchurch aswell as locals.
A.
The theatre is beautiful inside with all the embellishments on the ceiling and so on. If you are going to a show that relies heavily on visual elements then it can be a bit hard to see details from the grand circle, so book your tickets earlier rather than later.
J.
We were seated in the grand circle up near the top of the venue.
Everybody felt it was far too hot with no airflow.
I love this theatre but something needs to be done.
Paid big money to quietly sweat through the performance.
A.
Saw "The Marriage of Figaro". Brilliant performance, in a venue that had excellent accoustic qualities and great ambience
C.
It's a beautiful theater, an iconic venue in Christchurch. Unfortunately, the leg room between seats is very small, there is no air circulation and if you don't pick the right seats, you will have a very limited view. From the stall (row U in my case) the ceiling blocks the upper stage and there are huge speakers that block as well the view. Next time, I know now where not to get seats.
The musical, Les Miserables, was excellent, totally recommended.
S.
Visited the ITR to catch up with some mates in a touring band playing there. Its great to see this beautiful venue working again. Seating is good, views are great, and the acoustics are really good! Parking handy too.
Y.
Beautiful building. Must visit some day if you haven't.
Avoid the upper rows of seats if you have vertigo. Some seats up the very top has obstructed views. I could only see the front 1/3 of the stage.
Not much space between the seats either. Your knees almost touch the person's head in front of you and everyone has to get up or get out into the stairs to let you in and out.
A.
Love the IsaacTheatre Royal, what an incredible job everyone did restoring it to its former glory. Don't need much of an excuse to attend an event here, its so beautiful and always have a great time.
J.
We saw The Mousetrap here and that was amazing. Absolutely amazing.
The theatre is lovely and there are good facilties there.
BUT....... THEY HAVE MADE A MISTAKE WITH THE NUMBER OF ROWS THAT HAVE BEEN SQUEEZED INTO THE STALLS/THE WHOLE DOWNSTAIRS PART.
Far too cramped..... let's hope there is never a need to vacate the theatre in an emergency.
Apart from this problem it is a lovely theatre.
S.
The Issac Theatre Royal is a superb venue, one of the cities top places to visit. The restoration carried out post earthquake damage has been outstanding and provided visitors with a brilliant theatre viewing arena. Every time I visit, I am impressed by the high standard of presentation and helpfulness of the staff. For a small theatre, there is ease of access and movement between levels for all visitors via lift and two sets of stairs. The theatre is ideally situated in the city CBD near the Tram Arcade with a multitude of shops and cafes. Well worth a visit.
K.
Had a great evening here seeing comedian Chopper, we had excellent seats and a nice wine.
C.
A wonderful old theatre. So happy it was restored after the earthquakes.
A.
For the Grand circle: if people sit back in their chairs the sight lines are perfect and all the stage is visible, though if someone in front of you leans forwards it becomes difficult to see. as a taller guy ( 6 ft 2 ) i find the seats get quite uncomfortable after half an hour, though this could just be me.
the shows are generally excellent
r.
The queen tribute band was just 1 of the best concerts ever
J.
Great convention friendly and helpful staff
K.
Lovely restored theatre. Suitable for plays music etc. Downstairs public area can get crowded so try upstairs for the bar and toilets. Recently went on a warm night and it got very hot and sweaty in the Stalls area.
K.
Love this place, was really looking forward to visiting it after all the refurbishments had been completed and it didn't disappoint, I went to see a stage show and found the atmosphere & ambiance of the place truly unique. Had a really enjoyable evening.
A.
Very good views of productions from the Circle.- particularly so if you get the more forward rows. Upper circle is OK though obviously a more elevated view. We prefer these seats over the Stalls even though they may be closer to the performers. The sound quality has been disappointing on a couple of shows with quite obvious distortion on higher frequency output (read "S" sounds). During intermission it can be difficult to obtain service at the concession due to fewer than required service staff. It's a throwback to older days see an ice-cream salesperson walking through the circle area negating the trip to the stand if that's all you need.
B.
This place is a Christchurch icon. Warratahs concert was brilliant and a great set of memories for all us oldies.
w.
This was my first time being back here since the earthquakes. The restoration work they have done is very impressive. I missed the backstage open day they had a couple weeks ago. That would have been interesting.
I.
The decoration is a sight to behold but more importantly the sound and production on stage was fabulous. The increased level of security since my previous visit was noticeable but at the same time unobtrusive, yet reassuring. Pre-show and intermission drinks were not overpriced and a pre-order service was in place. The only negative would be that two broad shouldered patrons are quite cosy when seated side by side.
S.
Beautiful theatre. I've only ever watched shows from the ground floor so I can't comment on the view from the other tiers but I think it's best to pay a little bit more and sit near the front.
L.
Incredible venue for singers. Great acoustics and beautiful decorations. Super helpful staff, and more than enough spaces for warm ups and rehearsals.
P.
Fantastic theatre it is so grand hope to go to a lot more shows there
G.
A fantastic renovation. It was so lovely to see a full house. Dont miss out on going there
M.
Great theatre, pleased it was restored after quakes
S.
Good seating plan. Easy to find. Well lit before and after show. Friendly staff everywhere that can help you with anything. Bars on all three levels. Enjoyed my visit as havent been for years.
D.
The show was great and the theatre looks fab. However we were upstairs right at the back. It was stifling hot making it hard to breathe and looked like we been for a run! With all the money spent on the building...air con could have been factored in!!
C.
Excellent theater. Bars on all floors with resonably priced drinks. Elevators to the upper levels for those unable to take stairs. Steep tiered seating at the top guves unobstructed views to the stage. Sound travels resonably well here too.
A.
Beautifully restored theatre in heart of city. Have attended many great performances here.
S.
Fantastic venue, an absolute marvel of old Christchurch still surviving in the heart of the city.
The high angled seats in the upper section leave you feeling like you're floating above the crowd below.
You find yourself seated under a grand ceiling that is so captivating you can get distracted from the show you are there to see by purely admiring the grandness of the whole building.
Highly recommended!
J.
Most beautiful place! Perfect venue.
S.
Beautifully restored.....but the lack of toilets is a disaster! Plan to spend the interval queuing....
M.
A beautifully restored Edwardian Theatre.
A.
In my honest opinion this is the most beautiful theatre in all of New Zealand for so many reasons. From the moment the Isaac Theatre comes into view as you turn into Gloucester Street you know you are in for a special evening. It looks stunning lit up at night, and the layout is simple yet effective, with a fully stocked bar conveniently located to your right as you walk in the door.
Entering the theatre itself sends chills down my spine every time, the decor is simply awe inspiring. As time progresses so does the theatre, with the lighting improving show upon show, and the acoustics are second to none. I have experienced concerts such as Lorde through to Comedic evenings with The Topp Twins, and of course live theatre performances, with all of them suiting the venue superbly.
The seating is comfortable enough, and the ushers are all equally helpful and their passion for theatre is prominent as they guide you through to your seat, you can tell they all simply love working there.
Such a wonderful asset to this city, I truly hope this remains for many more generations to come so that we may all continue to enjoy the best theatre in this country, The Isaac Theatre Royal, Christchurch.
T.
Beautiful Venue, great acoustics, inspiring show by CSO. Or only suggestion - Could have done with more than 1 person at the Dress Circle door checking tickets as the queue was very long, was moving at a snails pace & we had already waited for ages (then we were told by the man over the loud speaker to get to our seats within 7 mins or we would be locked out! Yikes! not a very nice welcome unfortunately) but otherwise we enjoyed the night
P.
We were at the New Zealand Film Festival Herbs movie. Sat in the Stalls. Good veiw and sound was very good. Seats comfortable. Very enjoyable evening.
D.
Beautiful old hertiage building saved from the wreckers ball after the earthquakes of 2010-11. I remember being a young boy with my dad watching 'Robert Bruce' in a wrestling match here in the early 70's. Also saw The Rocky Horror Show here.
A.
Fabulous venue. Saw Les Mis here a couple years ago and it was unreal, could not believe the talent.
C.
I love the ITR but found the ushers a little over-zealous with their torches! The walkway is lit so I don't feel like they needed to be turning them on every time someone went out or came back! We found it very distracting!!! Still a beautiful theatre tho'!!!
B.
It is hard to be critical of Issac Theatre as it represents one of the last original live venues in Christchurch.
We recently saw the Queen Experience here. Staff where friendly, and the venue offered good stage views from all seats.
I am critical of few things, it was incredibly hot up in our seats and at intermission the lines to the toilets where ridiculous due to a toilet being out of order.
4 stars from me
J.
A night out at Wicked. This is not to be missed. Isaac Theatre put on another stellar show. A great production. Fantastic stage and scenery. Well done to the cast and crew.
P.
Had a super fun and spontaneous night. Amazing old theatre!
C.
This venue is, and always has been, my favourite!!! The ambience is 2nd to none. The staff are friendly and very willing to assist in any way they can. I can't recommend it highly enough 😁
P.
Absolutely amazing theatre venue. Beautifully refurbished after the earthquakes. The show "we will rock you" was also fantastic
P.
Really good refit after the earthquake.
Gin Wigmore In concert tonight was great.
Seems to be more leg room there than places like the Horncastle Arena. Very nice
A.
It's so wonderful to have this beautiful old theatre restored. Thank you, Sir Ian McKellen, for all your fundraising efforts. If anyone deserved a knighthood, you did!
A.
The theatre is beautiful and ornate with a dramatic marble staircase. There's a small bar downstairs to get a glass of wine before the show. There's a Wilson carpark directly across the street from the theatre which was $5 for the whole night. I went to a film festival movie at the Isaac and tickets were $19 each, so relatively an expensive movie venue especially when you include parking, compared to Hoyts.
W.
Great venue...plenty of room and all good seats
M.
Very classy theatre, well worth the visit
M.
The Isaac Theatre Royal opened in 1908, and is New Zealand’s only operational Edwardian-style theatre. It replaced another Theatre Royal on the same street, which had actually been built in the same place as the theatre’s first incarnation. Along the course of its lifetime the Isaac Theatre Royal has undergone various refurbishments and renovations, including a massive post-quake restoration pursuit which was completed in 2014.
D.
Incredible architecture in this place!! Just don't book tickets for the Grand Circle if you suffer from vertigo or are scared of heights... It is way up high and very steep looking down to the stage...
M.
Saw Jordan Peterson here today. Amazing talk and great location for it. This incredibly well polished building is as beautiful on the inside as the outside. The staff were highly professional and friendly.
t.
Dress up night at The Rocky Horror Picture Show movie. I'm always surprised they let us throw rice, toast and toilet paper in there.
e.
i have seen multiple shows here and it never ceases to amaze me on how beautiful the vibe is, as well as the helpful and friendly staff, it’s always a good theatre experience not matter where you sit 😊
N.
Enjoyed the Tami Neilson show & her guests. Great seats & a good interval time
S.
Beautiful theater, however i have been here for 2 seperate concerts now and wouldnt be going to future gigs here. Seated and cramped = not a good time.
S.
The Isaac Theatre Royal is a great example of post earthquake restoration in Christchurch. Faithful to its roots, but with excellent modern facilities.
My only small gripe is the relatively tight seat configuration, which combined with a lack of central aisle, gives the place a slightly claustrophobic feel. But it's a minor quibble in what otherwise is a beautiful venue.
R.
Looking wonderful, comfortable seating, loved being back for the first time since the restoration.
D.
Beautiful venue. Amazing range of high quality shows, music, theatre. Lovely bar and seating area on first floor. Check out The Royal Supper Club for something special
G.
Beautiful theatre, well restored after the earthquakes. It's even better than it was before. Easily the premiere theatre in Christchurch, attracting high calibre international acts.
n.
Beautiful theatre very nice staff well worth going here to watch a show...parking easy in the evening right next door
H.
A great place to go. Always enjoy the experience
b.
Rebuilt and refurbished after the massive earthquake here in Christchurch, this Iconic Theatre has been around a long time. We just saw the production of Les Miserable, all we can say is brilliant.
A.
Seen Chris Cornell, Seether and Gin Wigmore here from the ground floor - the acoustics here are fantastic. Listened to Jordan Peterson from upstairs - the leg room, or lack of make it awkward having to stand to let people pass, and uncomfortable. The building is beautiful.
J.
Beautiful venue...looking forward to using the other rooms!
S.
The theatre is beautiful. The show was fun and amusing. Go the Topp Twins!
J.
Absolutely phenomenal, what a glorious building steeped in history and glamour and style and just so grand. The staff were outstanding. Thank you for a truly memorable day.
T.
We attended the Imperial Russian Ballet this week. Row K, seats 8 and 9. Next to us in seats 10-12 were three teenaged girls who, while interested in proceedings brought in with them, after the first Act packets of chips and slurpy drinks which they noisily consumed. The rustling of the packets was intensely annoying and they were told off by several patrons. Apart from their immaturity the fault lies with the theatre for not insisting on food being consumed in the foyer and with the ushers in not blocking their return to their seats until they had finished eating. Pse f/up and let me know. You have my phone number.
N.
Fantastically restored. Great place to watch a show
S.
Beautiful building. Wheelchair access available. Comfortable seats, though difficult to move through once people are seated.
D.
Just saw Les Miserables. Fantastic venue. Beautiful theatre with amazing acoustics. Make sure you take some cash for an ice cream at half time!!
B.
Beautiful old theatre and excellent venue for the Les Miseráblė production. Only down side for a sell out show is not enough women's toilets.
K.
First time going to the Issac Theatre today and seeing a NZ film festival film. There is a bar selling alcohol and non alcoholic beverages. Ice cream and pop corn. It is a nice atmosphere and warm.
V.
Beautiful theater very helpful ushers it's always a magical experience I went to plays there in the school holidays and opera and the messiah and last night the absolutely fabulous PostModern Jukebox
z.
Beautifully resorted theatre. Was damaged by earthquakes but they have done a great job of restoring it. Has a variety of different shows and concerts held here
M.
Absolutely amazing.....have not been there for a few years.....!
JUST OUT OF THIS WORLD.
We thought it would be an enjoyable show....how wrong we were....it was SIMPLY OUTSTANDING.
A.
It was a great show and the theatre is beautiful with great staff, however, we sat grand circle and the seats are small with very little leg room which was making people very uncomfortable.
B.
This is a great venue. The staff make this place. Just so friendly and professional.
G.
Been here many Times, always a Great experience no matter what amazing artistes are performing The staff in every department are so helpful, courteous & HAPPY too.
B.
I loved the johnny cash show, but didn't like the seating( the stalls) having to try and see around peoples heads
C.
Film festival movie this evening. Before the movie started we were in awe of the magnificent and truly beautiful interior. It was like stepping back in time to an age of grandeur.
R.
Great place to see a show or musical. Staff are nice. The theatre itself is just as much a work of art as the performances
R.
This is truely a Christchurch icon. It's been wonderfully restored following the 2010/11 earthquakes. Beautiful theatre and a great venue.
D.
Fantastic We went to see Wicked Great performance fabulous singing Only problem was the seating We were in row U and Speakers attached to floor above were in way to see some of stage at times
M.
Superb venue and staff, go to a show here
A.
Stunning theatre. Well organised and deep stage make for a delightful stage show with all the bells and whistles but still set in a classic style decor.
A.
Great show, wonderful ushers, no problem as to where you sit most places get a great view of the stage.
N.
Beautiful old theatre and exceptionally restored. Love going here to see performances.
P.
Been to 3 gigs there.
Last being the Warratahs.
Excellent venue.
T.
It's fast becoming the heart of Christchurch, puts on a huge variety of great shows, catering to all ages, plus it is surrounded by some lovely restaurants and cafes, all within walking distance. Until the square/cathedral is back up and running, it's a lovely area of chch 😘
D.
Amazing Fly My Pretties concert, first time at this venue and will be going back for more.
T.
