This is an excellent cinema; they curate a great selection of films that are often hard to find screening anywhere else - not necessarily the place to go for Hollywood Blockbuster films. The seats are comfortable and the drinks/snacks available to purchase are great. Perfect spot for a date night and conveniently located centrally with lots of nearby restaurants etc.

This is such a wonderfully unique, cozy little cinema. I've been to many movie theaters, but this just might be my favorite...too bad it's halfway across the world. The atmosphere is so warm and inviting, yet it also feel like a hole-in-the-wall. We just happened to stumble upon it one dreary evening and had a great time there. I'd love to return for a date night. Great concessions, excellent selections of film. Intimate, enjoyable atmosphere. Two thumbs way up!

Visiting the cinema's Iconic building itself is already an experience. This Cinema is the best definition of the affordable luxury.

The Bijou bar at the top of the stairs at the Lumière cinema is a wee 20s delight. Romantic spot to meet a date before the film. Not much in the way of non sugary non alcoholic beverages, but that's pretty normal. Real atmosphere in the old University.

This would be the most well presented theatre I have ever been to. They have decorated the foyer and the theatres with plants and stylish modern decor which brings on a very soothing ambience. The chairs were also very comfortable. I felt very priveleged to be in a cinema which respects the art of film making by not only showing a variety of niche films, but also by ensuring the audience has the most comforting stay possible. I would love to come back here.

Amazing location, friendly staff and good movies $12 on Tuesdays, $13.50 for students and $17 for adults. Call to book seats, and make sure you tell them your preference for seats otherwise they might give you the side seats. Happened to me so now I call and tell them I want the middle seats in the back row. You can book then pay before your movie, very convenient indeed.

Amazing experience. Saw David Byrne's American Utopia there. Incredibly comfortable chairs and a bar where you can get wine (or water) in a glas and take it inside with you. Top Gun Maverick this time, with the Experience. Wines, a cheese board and 2 tickets for $65. Great value

This is the most wonderful, comfortable cinema imagineable. As you climb the stone staircase outside to the entrance, your experience has already started. Look over to the Botanical gardens and museum with their soft evening lighting. Comfy plush chairs, plenty of space, great films, good prices and downstairs the most incredibly decorated ladies toilet await you inside . It is a fantastic venue. Friendly staff too. Buy the 5 visit tickets to save and if you are over 60 it's even cheaper.

Lumière is one of the highlights of town. If you're a cinema lover like myself, it will be no surprise to you that Christchurch is a gem for movie watching. Lumière is the best for an elegant outing, followed by a drink at Cellar door. + They have Rollickin ice cream = winning They also host a multitude of international film festivals which are simply sensational - might not be the spot to turn up in your joggers and jandals... Nonetheless I've done it without judgement from the staff ;)

They are all good the little theatres in town but this one is cute quaint.Anyhow l like it with it's yuppie ish bar lift veiws of the old University ....yeh the popcorn is ok too the seats hmm can't remember so they can't be bad Lumiere sounds nice once l got hang of saying it might have been on the third visit.

When we went back in February it was our first time there and we’ll definitely back. So quirky and cute. I was mesmerised with so many little things, for example the lamp shades. Aww, so many things. And the movies most importantly, they’re not your usual cinema movies. A great way so support kiwi movies

Am loving this place, a fabulous new cinema experience within the Christchurch Arts Centre. Super comfortable seats in both theatres, friendly knowledgeable service and a great selection of films to choose from every day. Have been to 6 films in the past couple of weeks, chosen from this year's Film Festival programme and more to come. Enjoyed a very good latte and savoury pinwheel while watching one recently, from a very tempting array of sweet and savoury treats at the counter. I see there's a great-looking bar with views across to the Peacock Fountain, which would be a good spot to meet for pre-movie drinks, or to buy a glass of wine to take into the movie, side-tray provided. Highly recommend Lumiere, and great work on the fitout.
