Reviews of Margaret Mahy Family Playground
D.
An amazing play area for the kids right in the heart of city of Christchurch. There are a mix of areas for the kids, water play which is great especially on the hot day we were there, sand pits for the smaller kids with diggers, and then the general play area that is just massive with beets to climb and slides to tear down! Kids loved this spot!
J.
For children, this is a very good playground (there is an age limit, but you don’t have to worry about the age limit when there is no one to watch). There are many activities suitable for children. Parents/grandparents/guardians can watch the children play (no mobile phones allowed). It is beautiful here, beside the River Avon, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery, and you can walk to the city center in a few minutes. very nice.
K.
This is an amazing facility in Christchurch, named for one of New Zealands best and most iconic children's authors.. The park caters for children of all ages and levels of daring, with equipment ranging from large spider webs, flying foxes, slides and seesaw, to a high tower with a fantastic spiral slide/ tube. My granddaughter loved the splash pad, with its water cannons, mystery fountains and all sorts of water features. We stayed for several hours. There was food available from stalls beside the park, rubbish disposal and recycling bins nearby, and public toilet facilities on the edge of the park. If you have time to spare, and kids with you, go there and have some fun. They even have talking tunes around for kids to call each other. All kinds of fun. Margaret would have loved it. The only criticism I have is that it should in some way reflect her personality, or the character(s) of her writing.
Go there. Recommended.
B.
Kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves and that's the real rating.
Awesome well maintained clean park with lots of play things.
I.
Been here many many times. Good fun area for children to spend few hours to burn they energy.
A.
A great playground for all ages and capabilities. Plenty of food caravans on the edge of park - including coffee. There is a mini putt($), pump track and basketball hoop across the road too.
a.
Love this. Is an amazing place!!,
My kids had the best time, we spent hours here on our hoilday
O.
I went once there and i am planing to go there more, because it has good place to walk and have some fun
R.
Absolutely incredible. The food and ice creams are available normal business hours, but the park is open 24/7. A lot of people there at dusk, during summer. Great water activity area.
J.
An awesome, large playground with something to occupy all ages. It’s within close proximity to cafes also, a bonus.
R.
Always a joy to come here for adults at night and children by day 😜 things for younger kids like big slides or spinning bucket chances are they may need an adult with them. Giant spiders web that even the most cranky teen will enjoy. Flying fox as a set so you can race your friend if you wanna lose because you didn't get a running start lol. There is a water play section for the summer but not always working with current alert levels. There are food trucks that occasionally are there more than most and are parked under the shade section closest to the street. The time I went was hot chips, hot dogs, ice cream, donuts and coffee (thank God). There is a toilet block with rather fancy and automated toilet set up. Felt very hygienic and maybe a little creepy as I kinda got a bit confused trying to figure out the locking and the buttons for things but happy to use them always now as I swear best public toilets I’ve found. If want to feed the ducks there are many hanging around as the Avon runs parallel to the park with a nice little dock for people to come and sit. There are of course many seagulls so be ready for them. There are seats along the boarders of the play area as well as covered picnic/bbq areas down the other side of the hill between the playground and the carpark. Limited car parks so get in quick or may find it a bit tricky as it’s a very popular spot.
D.
Flying fox, water park, fantastic slides, swings, climbing frames. Everything clean, in good working order, snack stalls. This place is awesome. Supercharging kids sense of imagination, physics and mechanics understanding, and confidence. Wonderful
B.
What a playground! Huge slides for a variety of all ages, swings and in ground trampolines. The best thing is the water park with all of the interactive equipment for moving water around. Parking next door in large Carpark. Coffee and food onsite in a variety of food trucks and public toilets onsite also. If you have children and are visiting Christchurch it’s worth visiting
N.
We have been here many times, always full with people because it’s probably the best park in Christchurch. Plenty of parking. A good place for families with children
C.
Situated alongside Avon river, this more than 2 hectare playground is an endless source of fun and adventure to kids of all ages. It is named after Margaret Many, a much loved local author of children's books.
It has a wide array of play equipment where one can slide swing, climb, crawl, run, glide etc. It has a 4 m wide slide, double flying fox swing, sand play, a crawler's tunnel, a tower, trampolines and others.
There is a picnic and barbecue area, public toilets, car park and food carts serving hot and cold drinks and ice cream.
J.
Many activities for the young and old. Water park theme. Sand play area. Slides and many bouncy areas. Ropes and swings. Car parks at the back. River on the side and don't forget the ducks.
A.
A great play ground for kids age 5 to 15. Not the best for younger kids except the warm sunny days for water play. Make sure that you will visit eels and swans in the stream beside.
a.
Love this. Is an amazing place!!,
My kids had the best time, we spent hours here on our hoilday
B.
Great fun for families just a little sad that there are a number older children ie. Teens who make accessing various playground equipment hard for smaller kids or kids the equipment it's made for difficult, even when little ones are accompanied by a career or parent. Many I saw just moved to other areas so as to not be called a Karen.
C.
What a beautiful playground. Easy access, well maintained.. So much to pick from, for all ages!
J.
This is hands down the coolest playground I've ever been to. Flying foxes, a 3 story twisty slide, trampolines, an amazing rope climbing structure, water features, tunnels, spinners, saucer swings and much much more. Our kids could spend hours here and even us adults weren't immune to all of the fun. I rode the flying fox, braved the slide (getting up there is a bit difficult for anyone over 5 ft), enjoyed the saucer swings, and even jumped for a bit on the trampolines.
L.
Such a cool playground, plenty to keep kids occupied and a great place to have tea while kids play
C.
Family playground. Enjoy with your children and friends. Children can play with water, sand, swing trampoline and many more. Children like to climb up and come on the slide. Parking is a problem since there are only about 30-50 car parks available.
P.
Best way to get the kids to burn off some energy. This place is always busy and parking can be a struggle sometimes. Has a few food carts nearby sometimes but only snack type food.
Has a water play area - but that's best for summer days. It also has a large sandpit area.
L.
Great playground! For all ages.
Slides, shelter, water play. Highly recommend
G.
It is by far the best kid's playground I have been to. The quality of the equipment and the innovation of the various areas was impressive. The water play area kept my grand daughter entertained for more than an hour in winter and she didn't get too wet. Would have been marvelous in summer when it is hot and getting wet would have been comfortable.
I.
Best playground in the world. Period. They really though of everything here. I mean everything. From climbing hills to long and fast slides to water/splash area and zip lines just mention a few. You can literally spend whole day here.
G.
Absolutely loved it..first time seeing it today with my friends. Lots fun things to play on and explore..Definitely worth coming too and having a play, whether your an adult or child..well worth it.
C.
The best playground in South Island. Warning to parents : be prepare to stuck there for 2~ 3hours are quite normal 😅simply a fun place for children from toddler age to early teens
S.
For adults, I rate this highly for the ability to sample the attractions with minimal stigma or shame. The shame comes from attempting to use the toilets which are robotic and far too future for my liking. My only other complaint is that there was no Dr.Seuss.
E.
Accessible, Children friendly, relaxing place for parents.
J.
Fantastic place for small and big kids. Heaps of play areas and activities with varying level of difficulty.
If you are wondering who can fit in the blue tube, any adult can as long you can climb up.
Also for people who aspire to become a ninja warrior, you can try climbing the wall there.
A.
Fantastic! Good location, plenty of parking, great activities for all ages
A.
What a wonderful place for families. My kids loved every single minute of it. Fun for all children big and small. Highly recommend. Another excellent free activity to do whilst in Christchurch
Q.
Awesome place for kids and parents to enjoy. Superb facilities. Huge play spaces. Have a cuppa or yummy ice cream while your kids playing. Enjoy outdoor BBQ on good days😎
O.
I went once there and i am planing to go there more, because it has good place to walk and have some fun
H.
Great playground, heaps fun for kids, good to ride Neuron scooters 🛴 around
L.
So much fun! A fantastic experience for my 3 year old and also for hubby and myself! 🤭 Just loved the happiness 🥰
P.
Looks good, lots of kids having fun, but I went to pick up the one who hurt himself lol
S.
Absolutely amazing. What a fun playground for all ages. Highly recommended even as a tourist with kids.

Always a great time with the kids at Margaret Mahy Park. I would highly recommend you visit before leaving Christchurch :)
T.
Is always a good time my son enjoy it very much
R.
Great place to take the family out and can have a bbq and picnic with the family
L.
All I can say I wow, the kids loved it..... can't believe it's free, don't forget a change of clothes for the kids because there's water for them to play in
E.
Great playground. Plenty of fun things for kids to do. Water activities, slides, swings and ropes
J.
Personally didn't have a go on the playground sadly, think it would be highly frowned upon if i had bowled a child over. Would bring kids here if on babysitting duty and they'd be sorted
N.
Always a great time with the kids at Margaret Mahy Park. I would highly recommend you visit before leaving Christchurch :)
M.
Wow! This playground is something else! It's very large wirh a good variety of play structures, slides, and water features. My 4 year old loved it, and there was definitely a good mix of activities for older and younger kids. There were public toilets on site as well as a sunscreen dispenser and a small food truck. This is an excellent place to let the kids run around.
V.
Wow!!! What a wonderful park. Must visit if you have children. Lucky people in Christchurch. Must try to eat foods from the mobile cafe. Ummm tasty!!!!. The car parking space is not big, and only 3 toilets for this busy park.
M.
Awesome playground, all sorts of different apparatuses for the kids to play on. Even water play and sand etc 💗💗💗
R.
The kids had an awesome time. So much variety. It is a well through out playground for all age. There is also water play area and a sand area.
M.
Great park to take ur kids and get out for the day. Spend some time with your children. They deserve it.
N.
I do like this playground because of the level of enjoyment it brings the children. The parking available however is lacking. I like that there are food caravans and ice cream on site. It is a huge park so you do want to keep an extra eye and most likely follow your child around it. The sandpit and water area is my childs favourite part!
B.
Everything was great and fun, not tamed down, a giant spiral slide, a high drop slide, flying fox, tunnels, trampolines, swings and more. Many mums and dads playing too. If you don't take your kids there when in Christchurch, you are down right cruel. And it is FREE.
C.
Very cool place to play. My younger brothers really love it. I’m the summer the water part of it is great. The food and drink trailers are very good as well.
E.

Wonderful the play ground was packed with alot of kids and parents we brought lunch of hot dogs and chips $8 and Bacon and egg roll both were very nice and a candy floss on a stick $3 well worth it and kept the kids happy right down to playing in the water very happy children and grandparents
A.
Our two sons are too old now, but they would have loved the Margaret Mahy Playground if it had been around when they were at Primary School. I met Margaret Mahy a couple of times when she was alive and she had a mischievous spirit. I think she was such an amazing children's writer because part of her had never grown up. It would have been a great delight to her to see kids having so much fun in a playground named in her honour 😍❤
M.
Great family park for the whole family, great range of playing equipment for the children to enjoy, swings, flying fox, climbing web, slides, trampolines , water play& much more, lots of benches to set on, lovely picnic & BBQ area also change room & toilets.
J.
Great spot to spend some time with the family.

What isn't there to like, such an amazing playground, bbq's available, coffee caravan, perfect for families. Margaret Mahy would have loved it, she was such a character

D.
A great place for the family to spend the day
L.
An absolutely amazing children's park... what a delight to find this while on vacation...
J.
A stunning play ground. Well designed and executed. Lots of challenging activities if all ages. The water focused areas are very engaging. Remember to bring a change of clothes especially in the warmer months as the will be wetness for those that really get into the water play
A.
Beautiful day to be at this wonderful park, only thing to let it down was the toilet facilities, as some were in a terrible state. When the park is that busy someone needs to keep them clean.
H.
Best park we’ve ever been to, hands down! We could’ve stayed for hours. Nice shady spots for the adults to relax and don’t miss the donuts! SO GOOD!
C.
Epic playground! One of the best I've ever seen with lots of different high quality equipment to keep kids entertained

Excellent time here. Summer is great with the fountains and water activities being active. Lots to do here. A real asset to have in the city.
J.
Best playground. Ever! Nothing more to add.
R.
Went to the new Mini Golf across the road so much fun a must to do while in Christchurch
S.
Love this play ground, the water features are the highlight of the park :) even older kids love playing with the water guns and using all the mechanisms that move water. But can get very hot and there is not enough shade cloth up so take sunblock, there is a water fountain but suggest bringing your own water. Theres food and coffee carts so affordable snacks and drinks there too :)
R.
A perfect park for children ! And even adults especially with the water features as well
R.
Very beautiful playground. Great for kids and adults too
S.
Best playground I've ever seen. Free entry to the public. Sets a new standard for parks worldwide.
C.
Biggest playground of New Zealand. Very good place for kids.
A.
Nice play ground for the kids with some good swings.
T.
Awesome place! Great way to kill a couple of hours with kids. They love all the different activities you can do
S.
My 6 & 7 year olds absolutely love it. They gave it 5 stars. Favourite area is the water area and a spinning thing?
K.
Best playground ever!!! I wish we had one like this in Australia!
M.
This was an amazing play ground.... The only thing i will caution is that it's located next to a rather large River ... Which can give you a fight as a parent if you lose sight of your kids for a moment
B.
Fantastic park! Awesome for kids and parents alike. We had a blast, but should have brought a towel for the water play area.
D.
Amazing,so safe grandies had so much fun.👌👌
D.
This is the best kids park in New Zealand. Prove me wrong
A.
Amazing, good families, young adults anyone who can play. Well done Christchurch you deserve an award for looking after your people so well.
L.
great playground with crazy slides, waterplay and flying fox. donuts and icecream snacks also for sale there. toilets and BBQ and skate/scooter track.
G.
Amazing place for kids ,lots of fun 😀
A.
Not just a playground- a family park! This is the best playground or should I say park in the world. Always open, lots of stuff to try, and it's so fun that even adults get satisfied to try it! Has a very big public washoom. And ever hungry or thirsty? You can buy coffee, ice cream, doughnuts, burgers, ice cream, biscuits- and a lot more right beside the park.
V.
Amazing place to go with the whole family. Parents, kids, uncles, aunties and friends will have so many options to play. From the water splash area, to the jetty boat, the playground and the picnic area. There are public toilets, plenty of parking spaces, food trucks, ice cream, coffee
R.
Went to the new Mini Golf across the road so much fun a must to do while in Christchurch
k.
My granddaughter enjoyed her time playing with her friend. Lots of fun equipment installed.
In time trees planted will provide more shade. Remember to get the kids an ice cream before you head off home.
K.
Amazing playground, water play, golden sand pit, flying fox, trampolines and giant slide to name a few of the attractions
B.
The playground I found was very fun, there was lots of fun things to do for the whole day. I found that there were a lot of Lime scooters going around which were possibly a danger to the kids but I think that as long as parents are supervising there kids that they will be alright. There was only one other thing that annoyed me that one of the food cart owners were shouting at the little kids running around who were just trying to have fun but that wasn't the parks fault that is more the Cafe place. Overall the park is a really fun and enjoyable place for friends and family to hangout during the day.
T.
Is always a good time my son enjoy it very much
M.
Great place to take any child. Has fun for kids with disabilities - water play etc, tramps, big and small slides, heaps more.
Toilets are clean and large, food stands are good too.
R.
A very popular playground for parents to take their kids to. Newly built with a large variety of interesting playground equipment to keep kids entertained for hours. The parking is quite limited and is usually full on a nice day. Right next to the Avon, located in the city center.
A.
Really -really good and mind relaxing park, I really enjoy there every time.
K.
A fantastic and very popular family playground nestled in the heart of Christchurch, walking distance to the city centre. Massive playing area with lots of facilities for everyone to enjoy. Public toilets are available including wheel chair accessible toilets.
There are food and beverage options like coffee, slushies, donuts and ice cream. This playground features a beautiful water play area as well as your usual climbing frames and even trampolines. I recommend a whole day for this playground, theres plenty of seating, its right next to the river and there is even free barbecues that can be used to cook lunch.
Bring towels and plenty of sunblock!
C.
Our son really enjoyed the place especially the slide. .
M.
A W E S O M E. #THE BEST PARK EVER. EVERY POSSIBLE THING IN YOIR IMAGINATION. OMG SOOOOOOOOO MUCH FUN!!!!!!
C.
Amazing and very fun park for kids.
B.
Thank God for this playground. We take the kids there EVERYTIME heading back to CHCH. Never failed to entertain; both summer and winter.
All the equipments are also maintained and cleaned well too!
D.
If you have young kids its a must to take them.
This Christchurch playground is without doubt a great asset for the city understood to be perhaps the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.
A must to visit if you have children as it has plenty to do a lot of it you can join in with them as well. If your looking for a rest whilst you look on no worries it will keep them occupied using up plenty of energy.
Being a central location is a bonus as the city comes to life and adds something special to the area especially, as apartments start to appear and more visitors come to the garden city. There is food and coffee close by as well.
Named after Margaret Mahy, ONZ who passed on the 23 July 2012 and was a well known New Zealand author of children's and young adult books. Mahy won the Carnegie Medal twice and was recognized as runner up a third time.
D.
First time going to Margaret Mahy Playground.
Was awesome. I suggest definitely going and checking it out. ☺☺☺☺
J.
Margaret many playground is a such a great place for the children to play in a safe playground. It has BBQ area which is well supported and used.
L.
Fantastic place for kids. We set up in the BBQ area which was amazing .let the kids have a play then they all come down for some tea. 10 outta 10 for families
G.
Really a great playground, for families and kids of all ages. Also, river is nearby, and shopping just around the corner.
B.
Loved it. Lots of great experiences to be had. Slide a bit fast and painful for my 70yr old husband. What on earth happened to any decent shade... Sails that are there are only a token. Come on council, you can do better than that.
N.
Amazing playground recommended for kids has lots to play on so will be entertained for a good hour or 2
B.
Great playground for the kids. Plenty of options for kids/adults of all ages including a dedicated sandpit and water play area. If you ever in Christchurch it's definitely worth a visit
O.
I definitely think this is the best big playground in Christchurch. It will keep both kids and adults entertained for hours!! main parking lot have limited parking spaces but right behind the river opposite picnic tables and bbq area there's another car park area😊 few food trucks/ice cream truck around the water splash area which is also near the toilet facilities.
M.
The best playground for Kids I have ever been too by far !!!
T.
Amazing playground for kids and adults alike. Plenty of different options for kids of all ages. Can get busy due to its size and central location but its an amazing playground. In summer it has a pretty good water play area which the kids spend hours playing in.
P.
Never seen anything like it. Kids paradise. Hats off to the team behind this.
飞.
Amazing play ground
D.
This is a modern, high quality playground with lots of fun and challenge from toddler to teenager. The hand cranked water pumps and water features add to the fun. My kids all teenagers insisted on returning for a second go.
L.
Great for kids of all ages.
J.
Best playground. Ever! Nothing more to add.
B.
Brillant park. Plenty to do for the kids. Convient and clean toilets. As well as several food stores.
H.
Great playground! So much to do and so fun and educational too!
K.
What an amazing playground. Definitely take your kids here :)
M.
Great fun on a bike

Ok wee playground for the kids. I think I may have built it up in my brain to be bigger than it was. It will be great at the peak of summer with the water play area though. (as long as council can keep it clean from debris). The toilets and food trucks are a good addition for parents needing to get the kids out of the house for a few hours. If you find yourself in Lower Hutt at any stage, I'd suggest visiting Avalon Park as it is the park we're used to going to.
S.
A wonderful playground with lots of play equipment.
D.
Amazing playground but marked down a couple of stars as some of the kit is already showing signs of wear and tear - needs some urgent attention to keep everything in good working order. Also a desperate need for more shade and some healthier food choices.
C.
Good all round playground to keep kids entertained for hours. Alot of thought and effort has been put into almost everything including the toilets which are very high tech for Christchurch.
J.
Great spot to spend some time with the family.
G.
A very large spread out playground with plenty to do for small to bigger kids.
Climbing, bouncing, sliding, swinging.. this has got it all!
Y.
Great playground with plenty of high quality equipment and activities for kids. Good clean facilities. Must do if you visit Christchurch. Could do with more shades for the summer months.
S.
All hours day or night you will find someone here playing be it the late night drunk heading home from the var reliving their childhood or the child who freshly entered the world whom wasnt even bron when the park was built we have spent many a times playing here both with our children by day sometimes even by night byt also with our own friends for a midnight caper bored and unsure what to do in what omce was a dull less vibrant city maragret mahy was the perfect place to go and exert some pent up energy as a young kid at heart adult would love to do. Go and check it out and enjoy the free play dont get stuck in the cargo nets or the slide though. Have heard many a stories.
D.
It's an amazing place to visit with the whole family
V.
This is the best playground I have ever seen
H.
Margaret Mahy is an incredible playground with so much for the kids to do.
My youngest loves the waterplay area!
I would give it 5 stars but because it's located in the city, surrounded by busy roads, and has no fencing, I have dropped one star.
I wouldn't recommend taking the kids here if you have more than two children under the age of 10 and are on your own.
It gets very busy and it can be hard to keep an eye on the children when they're lost in a sea of others.
J.
Wish we had this in New Plymouth
Absolutely Fantastic
must go if u have children
J.
Excellent place for the kids to play. Easy parenting.
M.
Awesome park! They've thought of everything, and the kids are all having a fantastic time every time we go! A huge asset to Christchurch.
L.
Great playground that has lots of things to do for young and all. Safety flooring to make tumbles a soft landing.
V.
What fun for the kids. Water play, zip line, huge slide and rope climbs
M.
One of the best playgrounds in New Zealand.
K.
A great play space for children. We took our 2 and 4 year old grandchildren. They had a ball. There is play equipment for a range of ages so they were well entertained. All though it was busy it didn't seem crowded with lots of space for all.
M.
Awesome park, good for all ages, recommend taking togs and towel for kids as the water features are so cool and the kids get real wet. I wish this was here when I was a kid it’s so cool
T.
Amazing playground for the kids
D.
Nice to see kids playing and having fun in the playground.
K.
This place is amazing! No wonder it gets so crowded. It's so great being so close to the city. Can't go to Christchurch with kids and not come here
B.
Great place to go to and it's such a good playground
V.
Nice and large great place to take the kids hughly suggest it if your looking for something free to do with the kids during the summer time. But get in early if your not up for alot of people i suggest from 9am till about 11 is quietish good parking area reason for the 4 is it does need a bit more cleaning in there.
S.
Beautiful park with a huge array of slides, climbing things, water play etc. Good for toddlers all the way up to older kids (and let's be honest, a bit of fun for the parents too!)
C.
The coolest playground in the south. Gets a bit packed though.
S.
Kids love it on a hot day, do need becareful hot spots on slides though. After playing in sand, in the water area can sit down enjoy drink and kai in shade.
J.
Great place for the kids to burn off energy
N.
Great playground, my 3year old had so much fun
E.
Wow.
Playground technology has improved in the last 30 years. This place is an amazing public facility. I'm stoked for the children of Christchurch that get to use it.
It's very large, incredibly well designed and full of cool things to play on. My 5 yr old niece and 8 month old son were both able to enjoy it. As were the four adults.
What an great investment in public happiness.
M.
After hours so water was turned off but still an amazing place
S.
Fabulous mecca for children and their whanau
Y.
Kids love this playground. They don't stop zooming around for hours. We keep coming back amd still they love it. Theres also Waka rides on the Avon river, right next to the park that look like a cool way to see the city.
N.
Awesome place to go with the whole family. The kids love it and can spend hours here. There are some nice shady spots to rest in summer and cool water features. Lots of space to run around and play. I you want you can bring your own picnic and use the free BBQ to cook your food on! Perfect for a fun family day out or a free kid's birthday party! Nice clean toilets too.
R.
Huge playground with good learn /play equipment.
R.
An awesome family friend park for everyone and all ages
D.
So impressed with the set up of the play areas and the vendors on site selling their food are extremely approachable and add to the atmosphere of the whole environment.
C.
Great playground! Especially in summer too as it has lots of water play. A few cool slides, trampolines, swings, flying fox etc. Quite busy in weekends but it's fine. 👌
G.
Best park in Christchurch by a long shot lots of space and options there's clean toilets, security and water a free bbq area too we love it here
M.
A must to take children. Water play, trampolines, zip lines and more
L.
Love the amazing water areas. My wee one can still play here even though she isn't fully walking yet. It's a great multiple age playground.
C.
Excellent playground with a decent slide tower and a giant rope pole but still safe and fun even for an adult. Plenty of area away from the playground for picnicking. Has a reasonable amount of car parking. Short walk away from coffee and shops.
A.
What an amazing park! It has everything you could ask for. Space, for kids to move, space for parents to sit, space to picnic. The parks activities were interactive and children could really learn through play, learn about team work, their strengths, how to push themselves a little further, to challenge themselves in a safe setting. The water play area was no exception, cause and effect, and how water can be used was a strong theme. The park also had a great many loos and a food cart that had lots of delish food at a very affordable price. I would thoughly recommend this park to a family with children.
D.
Amazing playground. First visit and had a great time. Masters 3 & 4 loved the Flying Fox and UFO. Splash Pad only half working. The public facilities were good and clean just the hand dryer was very loud. Christchurch is ver lucky to have an amazing park. We need this in West Auckland.
L.
Great place to take the kids all Year round. Best be prepared for sand lit and water play, spare clothes are necessary for kids to change.
M.
Great play area for kids, and the big slides are just as fun for adults. Definitely get a coffee from the Kea caravan and the beef cheek chips from Crosby Fries while you're there!
H.
Absolutely amazing place to visit and explore. Fun for all ages provided you aren't 'too cool' to join in. The kids are able to run free like the old days and I felt safe to not have to watch them. It was the best first weekend out in spring that I have had in a long time. The slides and many climbing areas are great for the kids to test their motor skills.
D.
Fantastic place to waste kids energy .
Loved it
A.
What an amazing public park something for everyone.
My children loved the settings and the different slides.
The trampolines in the hill top are amazing.
Summer water play area. Wow those is fantastic.
Thanks so much CCC for this amazing park
J.
Great space for the kids to play.
So much to do, including water and sand play.
Caters to all ages.
Only downside is lack of sunshade for warmer, sunnier days
J.
Fabulous place to take your children. Although very crowded in the school holidays.
A.
Great place for the children to be entertained. Wide range of activities across the playground. Plenty of parking at the back or near by. There are often cues Toilets over holidays and summer. Limited choices of food (predominately sugary treats) available on site. Limited shelter from the elements. Great bbq's and picnic space, but not able to keep kids insight due to them being over the back.
N.
Great space for family activities, especially for the younger ones! Not sure if there are any public toilets available thou!
R.
Kids had a fantastic time here, as expected!
Water features similar to Avalon Park in Hutt City and the playground is very spread out so it's a case of 1:1 parent:child ratio if you have kids under 7 or 8 (maybe even older).
Lots of activities and various features to take advantage of, plus some food trucks on site, and a splash pad! Good idea to take a change of clothes. Toilets on site.
K.
An exceptional park with plenty of variety catering for kids of all ages. This park is a great asset for Christchurch and easy to recommend. Flying foxes, slides in many shapes and sizes, seesaws, swings, a sandpit and se water feature are all present. Also a short walk from new Regent Street and right next to the river. Fantastic and well worth visiting.
O.
After having escaped
the corporate "rat race",
I enjoyed so much running
in the what I call "rat wheel"
- Loved being playful again !
J.
Amazing playground! Fun for kids and adults. One of the best I've been to
D.
Amazing playground. Even a coffee cart for the big people
h.
Family get togather with kids and barbeque stand installed near the playground
Rveryone could do the barbeque
A.
This is a magnificent playground for all ages. Our 4 year old loved that she could climb, the choice of slides and the trampolines. The big obstacle climbing ropes are also very stable, making it fun and achievable for young ones. The ziplines were fun too having two meant we could have races.
Anyone with kids should definitely pop by to let off some steam
D.
Such a great spot to take the children, my 4yo and 2yo both love it, water play for warmer weather, plenty of things to do for children right up to young teens.
Plenty of space for wheelchairs and prams, good parking beside the play area.
Grassed areas are great for parents to set out a picnic blanket and relax, have seen many babies kicking around the blankets.
So many things for children to do, even when busy, there is no shortage of entertainment for the children.
There are shade cloths to help with the summer sun and planted seats so there is always a seat out of the wind if needed.
Having trailers selling hot and cold food and drinks are mostly good with a down side good for cold or hot days for something to help warm or cool you. Down side is the children ask for a lot more than just play and that costs. (My advice, bring snacks and drinks 😊)
J.
The biggest playground in New Zealand
V.
Great playground, but needs shade!
j.
Superb playground in the middle of the city. Lots of fun equipment for the kids.
B.
Playground with all the bells and whistles. Kids had a great time and us parents enjoyed ourselves too. We went at around 10am on Saturday and it wasn't too crowded until around lunchtime and then it filled up quick. Great place for outdoor fun!
W.
What a cheerful and busy playground. Seems like it's almost always busy even during weekdays. Well designed and not your ordinary playground. Some food stalls selling ice cream, coffees, fried stuffs on the side.
D.
Great place for kids to run wild and burnout. Soft ground so kids won't hurt themselves too much but the maintenance on some of the equipment is not been done. Some of the equipment has been dismantled or just fenced off. Not a huge amount of options for the space on offer so you'll probably be waiting around on busy days. Good fun but has way more potential.
A.
Awesome place to let kids and adults get some fresh air and let off some steam! Slides smell like wees but that's fine
R.
Awesome activity for families with young children. Tends to get very busy during holidays and weekends.
e.
Great for kids and adults!! Loved it
J.
Kids loved it. Heaps of space and awesome structures .
M.
Suitable for both adults and children, has a big metal slide and some water play areas, right in the middle of revamped Christchurch city.
S.
One of the most amazing playgrounds I've ever been to. Something for everyone, no matter your age. Clearly designed for adventure, exploration and learning with safety (rubber flooring) in mind that doesn't kill the fun. Huge slides, climbing ropes and structures, flying fox, water/engineering play. Some sun shade. Not sure who had more fun, us or our 2yo. Wish we had similar adventurous playgrounds of this breadth in our area in Melbourne (closest equivalent in Melbs would be the Royal Park Nature Play Playground)... Definitely shows there's a focus on helping all kids grow. Oh, and it's free!
M.
Lots of things for the kids to do. Mostly for younger children.
J.
Great place to take your kids and big kids to play. Not easy finding a park but once you do it's awesome. Parking is standard city fees but it's cheaper than the cost of chipmunks or the aquatic centres, even a movie ticket costs more per child and you can take a full car load of children to the park to play for six dollars per parking for two hours. Worth it for sure. Bring a packed lunch.
A.
Cool playground bit doesn't cater well for littlies and when it's been wet the surfaces are really slippery.
K.
Great place for kids, of all ages
C.
Great fun for the kids. We visit every time we are in chch ☺️👏
J.
Massive playground for all the family. I was so excited to go I'm 48 and my daughter is 29 we both went down the huge wide side, it was exhilarating. So many fun activities, plenty of room, and places to have picnics and soend the whole day. WOW! . WOW! WOW!
S.
I'm a grandparent... none of this stuff d around when I was a kid... Action aplenty for everyone under teenage years in a safe environment. Serviced by a couple of mobile food and drink vendors. Did not see anger or violence...
G.
Kid's love it, my boys go to place when we visit CHCH.
K.
Very nice and one of new playground in the Christchurch City Centre. Kids are love to go every time. All facilities are well maintained so your kids can enjoy the all facilities as a new condition. And also just behind of playground, there are BBQ facilities so you can have BBQ party as well. Nowadays city council has added the new facility for the biking and riding a scooter. It is really good for the kids to ride a bike and scooter.
M.
The ultimate playground. Suitable for children under ten mostly and csn get crowded.
B.
Amazing playground our grandchildren love it. So much variety from water experiments to skyscraper slides, a great place to learn and gain self confidence. We look forward to seeing more places for children like this in the city.
H.
What a fabulous morning we had at this childrens treasure of a playground. Great playing areas for all ages and sizes.
Had so much fun with our 3ye old granddaughter.. also feeding birds & ducks along the Avon river is a must do experience
D.
Excellent playground and nice place to relax. We could see this from our hotel room and immediately decided we want to go!
Can get very busy as it is a popular spot for families to take their children, but isn't overcrowded because there is plenty of space and areas.
R.
Wonderful fun for the whole family. From 13 months to 11 years and even adults. We all had a great time. So handy to town and the food trucks where great to have on hand.
Z.
Perfect for all ages! Baby changing facilities in the wheelchair access toilets. Ice cream, hot drinks, potato snacks are sold at the playground. There are picnic benches and bbq facilities with the parking bays close by. The Türanga library and Quake city is within walking distance from Margaret Mahy playground. Lots of fun for children!
D.
Best children's playground, great place to spend the day, picnic lunch or use the BBQ. Very popular with families, a must if visiting Christchurch with young ones
T.
This playground is amazing. It has water features, slides, nets to climb on, sand play and a flying fox. The place is huge and there are vendors for food and drink and even public toilets. Lots of space to relax while out is situated near the beautiful Avon River.
R.
Pack your suncream, bathers, and get ready for fun!
R.
Great place for the kids. A decent little coffee cart is also here for the parents. Stay clear of the communal BBQ facilities however, unless you like the idea of cooking and eating whilst ankle deep in sea gull poo.
T.
We have been to this playground so many time. It's the most massive and fun playground we have visited in Christchurch. My son and both me and husband love playing in this playground. There are both water and non water activities and both are interesting. The parking is also free.
R.
This stunning cleverly designed playground is a must visit for all children. It caters for all ages babies up. It is safe but I strongly suggest supervising children. The soft surfaces are brillant and protect young bodies. There is much to explore here. It gets busy but ive always found a park. Fantastic sandpit for the very young. it even has a tiny water feature perfect for the exploring toddler. Take a change of clothes.
a.
One of the best play grounds and so close to Christchurch city
L.
A nicely designed playground, with a good balance of safety and challenging facilities for the children. Facilities are catered for both younger toddlers and bigger kids. The toilets are modern and convenient, but a few are closed during off peak hours
P.
A great place but much of the equipment is old and unmaintained. An example of this is the trampolines which have much less spring than when they were first put in. Still very good fun and a nice experience.
D.
Lovely place to bring kids in all ages! I highly recommend!
C.
A hidden gem that could be easily missed by visitors. It is a free park, well maintained and we believe this is one of the biggest and adventurous playground in South Island. There are many interesting and challenging activities that will keep any child busy for hours. There is also a water and sand pool for those who prefer less adventurous.
S.
The best playground ever. There is so much to do here 2 hours wasn't long enough. From water play to slides and swings to balance obstacles and flying foxes. This was fun for the whole family. A few food caravans on site to for those much needed snacks.
H.
Great place, very entertaining for kids 3+. Not heaps for the smaller ones if you don't want them to play in the water part of the playgrotund. Packed on sunny weekends, you might have to stand in line to get a go with things. We had no trouble finding parking 120min limit right beside it on a sunny Saturday at 10:30. Presents of coffee and ice cream vans varies, depending on weather and day of the week. Public toilets on premises and sunscreen dispenser in the middle of the playground beside water play area.
E.
Great fun for our 3yo son, such variety in the ways of play, climbing, sliding, water play. Great public area too. Excellent safety flooring around the climbing / running area very soft
E.
Great variety of things for the kids to do. Needs some more shade (the trees will take some time to grow). It is a bit hard to keep an unobstructed view of the kids when there's more than 1 of them to watch.
C.
It's an AMAZING park. Must go if you have kids!
a.
awesome play ground for children, heaps of staff to amusement, just please some parents need to put their children under more control,
F.
Kids love this playground everytime we go there. When we drive through Chch that is a must stop for us 😁
B.
One of the best family fun spots in Christchurch city. The zip lines and water play zone are probably the highlights. Never a dull moment at MM :-)
S.
So much fun and challenging for kids, bit of everything and the water features really get them thinking, so more fun in the summer
E.
Incredible play space! We'll definitely be back!
K.
Awesome spot for a play & picnic. The playground is amazing but be prepared to have wet kids if you venture into the water play area. My 4 had a brilliant time.
J.
Awesome. Clean, safe, and well managed.
T.
Kids love this place! Adults love this place! My only wish is they enclose the playground with fencing as one side is on the river and 3 sides are roads/parking. It can be very busy on weekends. Take care to watch your kids!
B.
Great place lots to do children loved it
M.
This is an awesome playground in the central city. Lots of varied play equipment, a sand area, and a great water-oriented area with water cannons, pipes and the lot. Plenty of seating for parents, and good food stalls. The only gripes are that there are no covered areas at all (so not good in full sun) and I believe the slide can also get far too hot in the sun as well. There could also be more for really little kids.
M.
Very busy place. Lots of family's having fun. The equipment is very well made and safe. Will be back once my daughter is a little older. Needs some more parking. Good place for a cafe to gets a coffee while the kids play.
K.
Lovely place that keeps both adults and kids entertained for hours. Definitely the best playground in Christchurch.
C.
Awesome place to bring the grandchildren!
T.
Fantastic playground with loads of children's attractions. Only downside was how slippery the sand play area was. Saw one child slip and hit his head on a massive boulder. Nearly every kid in that area slipped over.
T.
Fantastic park with lots to do for kids of many ages. Water features, big and small slides, climbing structures, trampolines, sand pit, and barbecue space to boot. It really needs more shade, though.
I.
I love this playground. It's based on stories of Margaret Mahy and was designed by kids. There are also different sections; and a large playground. Bring togs on hot day as there's a water part.
L.
Something for every kid -water play, sand area with hut, insane climbing nets, insane slides (plus some less intensely steep ones, and a mini one for the little kiddies), climbing holds up the hills, flying fox & more. BBQ area, places for parents to sit, a few food trucks (icecream, spiral potatoes, chips, toasted Sammie's, drinks, packet muffins, that kind of thing). Bring plenty of water, the kids get dehydrated easily here. Better on a cloudy day as little shade over play area.
R.
Very enjoyable, with a lot of options to chose from. My only complaint would be the amount of people and that most things are metal, so on hot days, you can't slide down the slide without it hurting a bit.
Other then that, very fun place.
J.
Fun for the whole family! It's a huge and amazing park with parallel zip lines (so you can race your friends), super tall slides, a water parkish area and more! They also have flat top grills open to the public to use. I had a lot of fun here with my family! Good for anyone!
D.
The mother of all playgrounds! Awesome variety of equipment for both kids and young at heart to play on. Bbq/picnic areas and food trucks make for a great day out. Wicked vibrant colours in the heart of the city makes for true enjoyable time.
J.
Excellent fun, free 2 hour parking
A.
It is a wonderful park to visit. A family play ground with having BBQ facilities. Children will love it. Adults can take rest and be in a picnic mood there. Awesome place.
A.
Amazing. Best children's playground I've ever seen. Has giant slides, giant sand pit and extensive water play areas. Wear sunscreen, not much shade.
J.
Awesome park!! Something for all ages.
E.
A good place can have so much fun.
R.
Something for everyone. A great space with lots to do. Gets a bit hot on equipment on a very sunny day. The water area is neat.
G.
Wide variety of play areas, suitable for kids of all ages near the CBD. There's also a small street with a gelato joint and some cafes just down the road. A skate and bicycle park is across from the main playground. The toilets are clean but you will have to remember to lock it by pressing the button when you're inside and they do not provide toilet paper.
M.
Such a great playground. Well thought out. Very entertaining. Only reason I didn't give it 5 was ther cost of parking 😳 and it was hot and the metal slides were a bit too hot.
C.
A great place for all aged children. A massive playground designed by kids. Slides, trampolines, rock climbing hills, flying fox, swings, huge water play area. A Coffee kiosk for Mums and Dad's!
I.
Well thought out playground. The water play area is awesome and offers bit more than normal playground. Don't go when too busy. Limited parking when busy. Great donut stall on site.
V.
Great park, the whole family have fun. I especially like the water play area. Yay Christchurch!
N.
Always a fun time with the family. Especially with radio randy out there swinging around like a mad hatter on the table tops
J.
Again, another visit to this wonderful playground. On a particularly hot day the water features are a must! Great to see so many people with their shoes off, cooling down in the water, fantastic!
A.
Amazing playground! There are swings, trampolines and sand pit for smaller kids, the rest is more suitable for older children 3+ years, but it's worth a visit.
E.
Most amazing playground ever! Great for all ages so much variety of equipment could spend several days here. A must visit if you’re passing or staying in Christchurch with kids!
M.
Great free activity for the family. Plenty of play equipment and space. Lots of different types of play equipment for different ages. Alright parking, some free parking but other options available if they are all full. Food and coffee vendors on site, walking distance to Central city.
m.
Awesome park for all ages, great place to bring your kids, also has barbecue area if you were wanting to spend a few hours here.
Just needing a bit more seats and shade for the adults, while looking and free their kids
s.
Great outdoor playground in the heart of the city, suits kids all range. Easy care and toilets nearby. Can be very crowded during weekends and holidays. Ample parking in the area. Great place to take the kids out in a sunny day.
J.
Lots of things to do which is so nice so kids really love it.
Need to bring extra shirt if you want to play in the water park area..
M.
Fantastic playground! So much for our 2 and 4 year olds, they particularly loved the interactive water and sand play areas. One visit was not enough.
J.
Probably the best play area I've seen. Huge variety of play equipment. Keeps kids occupied for hours. My kids love it. Coffee and ice cream vans. Toilets. 2 issues: 1. Not much shade. 2. River is nearby and no fence around the play ground.
B.
An absolutely amazing family playground, kids here could have fun all day with parents in the water park, climbing section, slides, zipline. There is also a lunch area and bathrooms
D.
Probably the best playground the city has to offer... Gets very busy though, sunscreen dispenser is handy too, although I forgot to use it on my entire neck and still left sun burnt! haha.
River right next to it, go feed the eels or watch the ducks if you get tired of all the children screaming and crying all day long. Food available there too, three stands to choose from. Public toilets with electronic locking systems too.
P.
Great set up. Mainly for the under 10's though. Flying fox would have kept my kids happy a little bit longer but both of the sliders had nothing for the kids to hang off. Look like they had been broken for some time.
黃.
Very nice place for children!
S.
Excellent place for kid and folks young at heart. Can get a bit rowdy on weekends with lotsa screaming from kids. There are also a few grills for a nice family BBQ outing.
C.
Awesome playground but very crowded and when you have a younger kid you really have to watch them getting pushed around by crowds of other kids. 4 to 6 Yr olds are probably better off at Sumner. Alot more they can do there by themselves.
M.
Fantastic free playground for young kids in the centre of Chch. Great water activities which is perfect on a hot day. Various food trucks are often nearby if you get hungry. There are free carparks next to the playground which is often full.
C.
This is our favourite playground in all of NZ.
R.
My grandson absolutely loved it there
J.
Big Park with diffent different facilities to entertain the kiddies. There's ice cream and cafe stand which is good for the kids and the adults. Plenty of modern toilets and plenty of carparks. Picnic and bbq area as well as the river and ducks to go and feed. All round a fantastic park!
J.
This place is O for Awesome!
My sister and I took her kids here during the school holidays and it was packed out but still retained enough space to give all the kids something to do.
Her kids are 5, 3 & 1 1/2 years old.
There is coffee and snack food facilities here and with a packed lunch you could spend a day here during the summer.
One note though is that I would NOT recommend you let the little ones, under 5, go up to the top of the spiral slide by themselves. I went with the 5 & 3 year old boys and it is mayhem up there with little visibility for parents on the ground. I counted, on 2 occasions, 6 kids in total crying when they got to the top due to getting jostled about on the hectic climb up.
R.
Good playground the slide gets a bit hot for the kids in the summer though
S.
The best playground ever been to. So much for kids to do and experience from big slides to water play, climbing nets and sand pit. All with the latest safety surfaces.
A must do for any family (despite the busyness of it).
J.
Love this park, LIME SCOOTERS need to banned within the kids playground area. We are here right now at 9pm on 2nd Jan 2019 & there are 6 lime scooters driving through the kids area high speed with little kids running around. Get some signs up asap before an injury occurs or more so a death! Other than that, the water features and playground itself have been well designed.
J.
Our favorite Christchurch park. We love it. There's a water park part. And heaps of different obstacles for all the family to play on. Wheelchair friendly also a sandy beach and bbqs, with eels u can feed in the nearby river. The wind can b a bit cooler there but the kids never care. Amazing park. Highly recommend to all.
l.
I obtained a review from my son.... "lots and lots of fun, it's the best playground ever! There are lots of buttons to push that squirt water out of a wall, flying foxes, water pumps and water screws, a big wide slide, two tunnels, and a spiral rope walkway"
A.
Such an awesome park! If it's hot, though, you really want to bring clothes that can get wet and spend your time in the fountains and water works area - the other equipment can get pretty hot to the touch in the sun!
L.
Such a amazing place for the kids to go and play. Must be one of the best parks in NZ if not the best .
L.
We ayed on play ground then did Waka on the Avon, very interesting and informative and also very patient with an active 6y old that had to do it himself lol
A.
Our 6 and 7 years old kids really like this place
S.
Really nice. Lots of variety fun for kids even parents enjoy the the swings and slides also very clean
R.
Love this playground so much! Visit ever single time we are in Christchurch even if just passing through, great for all ages!! 🤣
M.
The punt dock on the riverbank is a great place to see birds (seagulls, several typed of ducks and the odd goose or swan) eels and trout. The eels will take food from your hand sometimes, if you can out out-manuovre the birds.
M.
The best playground ever
B.
Not to busy today uv index was low, a perfect place to kill a few hours and wear the kids out, scooter park across the road, ice creams a little expensive but meh all i all a good family time
C.
I have to be honest, I was a bit underwhelmed. It's supposed to be the biggest playground in the southern hemisphere, but there's not really much there. I preferred the big park in Napier on the North Island better. If you're a traveler, it's not really worth a special trip.
A.
Great fun for kids! Worth getting there a bit earlier in the day as it heaves when there sun comes out. Nice cafe a block up the road
K.
Beautiful family friendly park right in the heart of town.
Love it
R.
Fun playground....even for adults!!
D.
Lovely spot handy to the city centre and always seems popular with parents and children. Coffee and ice cream Van's often on site and if not hen close to New Regent St if a drink or snack is needed. Parking can be a bit tight at times but it is at he end of the river walkway so worthwhile parking a little distance away and walking the last bit to the park.
M.
Great place for kids, will forever recommend. Constantly busy even at night time. Well respected as far as I can see. Definitely need to be patient in warmer weather though as it becomes one of the busiest playgrounds in Christchurch
G.
Very busy but a great place for kids with plenty to do.
J.
Very fun place to bring your kids on he weekends and the school holidays. Heart to have a picnic, barbeque and etc lots of places to eat near the area.
C.
Such a great place to bring kids of all ages!! I especially enjoy the slides!! 😉 There are also a good few food stalls around in the weekends... not sure about week days though....
S.
Amazing playground with equipment for the whole family! The water park is our favourite. Gets incredibly crowded at times so be prepared to battle for a carpark. There could be more drinking fountains and rubbish bins though...
E.
Wonderful place for families and kids.
H.
Amazing park, kids had a ball, wish we had known to bring spare clothes - water section was too tempting for the kids
B.
Wounderful place to hangout with family in the heart of city.. Enjoyed the activities around park...
K.
Great fun! Interesting climbing apparatus and a flying fox.
D.
Large play park, but lots of the elements were being fixed on the day we visited, not sure how quickly they fix them. Very busy so not totally suited to the less adventurous child.
J.
Simply the best playground I have ever visited, with many reports saying it is the best in the hemisphere.
The playground is very vast with many, varied activities. Everything is very well designed and thought-out, with safety a key feature.
Activities include a giant slide, rope-area, towers, trampolines, sand-pit, zip-lines, swings etc and a fantastic, interactive water playground.
More activitis and structures are continuing to be added. If you take your kids there, it will become the benchmark that they measure every other playground by. And no other will come close.
Includes toilets, picnic areas (with gas bbq's) and, during daytime, coffee and ice-cream stalls.
S.
Kids loved it here, been a while since we had seen a nice warm sunny day so we took the opportunity to come down. A great time was had by all!
L.
Would highly recommend going on the playground at night when the children aren't around - especially fun after being in town. Lots of adults using the playground on a Friday night. So much fun.
R.
The best play ground in New Zealand! Fun for people of all ages with plenty of opportunities for learning through exploration and play as well as entertaining play equipment. It's close enough to the centre of town that it's an walk even with kids.
R.
Wonderful for children and adults alike. All the equipment is extra solid to support everyone for many years to come. Two flying foxes, and a mini water park. It really is a destination, though it does get very busy during school holidays.
k.
Fun in summer time as theres ground-fed water blasters,Trampolines,Slides,Flying foxes and so much more. A real fun place esp at night time in summer...Less kids more fun lol.
z.
Cool playground with plenty going on. Only issue is at night plenty of teens hang out drinking etc and leave a bit of a mess sometimes. But they have guards on to keep an eye on them so usually not too bad
H.
Awesome playground for kids off all ages. Water play area for hot days. Only lost a point because bathrooms need better maintenance
P.
Actually not good, kids had too much fun could not get them to leave. And it wasn't just me with that issue. Easy parking in the east carpark. Water park as well as educational activities like giant slide down a gradient marked hillside.
J.
Fantastic playground! Our 14 month old really enjoyed crawling about and exploring the equipment. A very popular place and big enough to avoid tripping over other kids.
B.
Fun for all ages.
S.
Wonderful playground with loads to do for children.
M.
❤ this playground so much - kids never want leave! Very popular on a sunny day in school holidays. Recommend 1 adult per child when busy if kids need watching. It is hard to watch them with one pair of eyes if they don't stay together.
d.
Amazing had a BBQ and was amazing lived it
l.
Great children's playground located in the city. Make sure to take swimming costumes and a change clothing - the water play area is awesome.
S.
Always lots of fun for the children. Grit around water areas needs redoing, slippery it spots
G.
This is a great playground .so much for the kids to do.has neat slide.water play.recently added a scooter/bike track of several different abilities.zip slide for older children.has coffee, icecream etc stands there as well.on bus route.must go with kids
E.
Amazing playground for all ages. Food stands right there for a coffee. River just next door to see ducks and swans. Ample on and off street parking.
M.
It's a great space and can accommodate all ages. Let's hope council can keep it in good condition.
M.
Best place for the little ones! you'll have a nice area for the tots to sprinkle their tiny little feets and get wet under the sprinkles also a sand area and a playground for the bigger kids... you can feed the ducks and eel in the river. good place to relax.
P.
This is a new modern play ground in the centre of Christchurch built after the earthquake which has become very popular. Can parks can be hard to find as families stay a long time so perhaps put a 2 hour time limit on the signs so everyone can enjoy the play ground. There are several toilets here as well as some food stalls.
S.
Lovely outdoor activity to engage children with the surrounding nature in the urban setting also make children move quite often and healthy (rather than with the gadget), family friendly park as well.
A.
Place for the kids and families to enjoy.👍👍👍👍👍
L.
Phenomenal playground, and deservedly very busy
K.
Amazing playground. Lots to do for ages two to adult. Water play, ropes, slides, towers so many options. Toilets and picnic spots as well.
J.
Stuck for ideas for getting the kids outdoors? Tired of the run-of-the-mill reserve playgrounds? The Margaret Mahy playground is built for all ages and can handle the crowds, it's never too full. The giant slide is, well, giant and slidey. The water park is very watery. The sand pit is, yes you got it, sandy. But it's great. Don't worry parents, there's even a decent coffee kiosk too. If they get tired of the equipment then check out the eels and fish in the Avon from the handy pier before you leave.
J.
Ever child's dream playground. Safe, clean, and fun
G.
Surely one of the best, most complex and busiest playgrounds in New Zealand. The water area kept our family's preschoolers engaged for some time. Half a dozen coffee, ice cream, donut, gelato caravans present, as well as plenty of Litter and Recycling bins. Nice educational features like latitude, altitude, Archimedes screw, sound tubes... strategic fencing seemed to keep kids away from the roads, and avon river.
S.
Such a great place to adventure kids love and and there are so many different things 100% reccomend
T.
Must see Christchurch attraction..
One of the most impressive play grounds I've ever seen. Well looked after and made from sturdy materials that have stood the test of time and thousands of kids.
L.
Awesome place for children up to intermediate ages
R.
Rain or shine, night or day, always good for a play! ❤️
M.
Super range of play equipment for kids of all ages, great for a picnic or buy a coffee/hot food at the vendors on site.
M.
So much fun to be had, if it's sunny remember a towel for the water playground.
i.
It's beautiful day Nice and clean around the area
D.
Great playground especially for New Zealand.
K.
Needs more shad but a beautiful place, kids loved it especially the water part.😁😁

Playground during the day, peaceful walks during the night with a scenic river route.

Super range of play equipment for kids of all ages, great for a picnic or buy a coffee/hot food at the vendors on site.
K.
Best place for both little kids and big kids
A.
I love this play ground. Great entertainment for kids. Only negative would be the state of the toilets is unpleasant. Given the foot traffic they need more regular cleaning.
k.
Great playground, lots of picnic tables and even bbq to grill on. Kids loved it.
O.
Wow, visited shortly after opening and already a favourite place for a family trip. Huge playground with loads to do - bring change of clothes or togs for water play area. Hardest part is not losing the kids! Lots of food and coffee stalls popping up, especially around lunchtime.
S.
Amazing park and a must do for any family that lives in or is visiting Christchurch. For us, the highlight was zipline and the slide. We kept at them until we were fully exhausted. And all of this was for free!
R.
Hands down the best playground ever. Lots to do for all the kids. Toilets onsite. Can stay for hours and take a picnic. Water park attached to main playground. Great for all the whanau.
A.
Amazing playground. Everything there you could imagine. For all ages young and old. Plenty of parking there or near by. Toilets. Food stalls too. So much fun.
M.
Bit dirty think ccc should cleaning up lot more often
M.
A fantastic playground for kids, although the adults might be tempted to have a go themselves!!
J.
Some work being done when I was there but still plenty to do for kids. And lots of potential!
m.
It was a very great playground our daughter had a lovely time she enjoyed all the slides, swing and the flying fox xx if we ever visit again we will be back again.
K.
Fantastic area for adults and kids alike. The playground is massive and has loads of room for sunny days, with nice sitting areas, and toilets close by. Great place to bring people together and is yet another reason to come into Christchurch's CBD.
D.
Very fun park. Our four and five year old got a bit shy on the high slide but after a bit of coaching they were scaling it well on later attempts
K.
pretty decent, was having fun there at like 4am till I fell and broke my arm, would definitely recommend it to families with small kids as they would love it.
t.
Great place for both adults and children. Just disappointed to see two cars driving at speed and the second one had to break suddenly behind another car.
H.
Fun times by all
S.
It's a total experience for kids and adults. Your kids can challenge themselves or just chill in the fun water features. Food available and good parking.
