Reviews of Mornington Park
C.
Just a few items to play on but enough to have fun for the kids, skate park further down which is great , plus the old tram that you can see if open or though window if closed. Toilets by park..and shops across road and countdown within walking distance
p.
Perfect for dog walks with a view. Great playground and areas for eating. Coffee shops, take aways and Night n Day right there.
Tonight was magical as you can see :-)
E.
Such a fun park to play at. Public toilets are close so that's a bonus when you have toilet training children
R.
The cable car museum is very interesting and would be a great addition for Dunedin when the cable cars are up and running on high street. I wish them all the best in getting this project done.
G.
Nice wee park at the top of High st,popular with Saturday morning soccer for the young people but also a nice spot just to relax and maybe have a picnic or eat your takeaway’s from the food shops which are close by,very clean and relaxing.
L.
Daisy and I enjoy the tidy semi fenced dog friendly area.
S.
We like this playground. It provides confidence and stretches our grandchilds ability. It's handy for parking, toilets very handy. It's a sunny spot. Seating is available. Sports grounds next door. Good area for small children to play on equipment and large area for kicking a ball or running around
C.
One of two skateparks in Dunedin. This one built in the 80s I think so getting a bit tired looking.
B.
Nice wee playground. If they get the trams and frisbee golf developments completed the place will take off. Great adjacent shopping centre and Grid Coffee across the road is superb.
K.
Cute little place to go if you just want a little stroll. There's a park af skate park too, though it's a little small but good for skaters just wanting to mess about on their board😊
s.
Good park open and clear bit exposed on cold windy day
M.
Great park for kids and to have something to eat in the sun
B.
Nice but going up the hill on foot you need to get left a whole heap to safely get over the road
J.
Good open spaces for kids and gr8 equipment to play on...

Mornington is the home to several sports grounds and teams, and was the site of New Zealand's first golf course, opened in 1872. The Zingari-Richmond Rugby Club is based at Montecillo ground in Eglinton Road. Montecillo, the city's home for war veterans, was moved from Eglinton Road to South Dunedin in the 1990s. Immediately above Montecillo ground is Unity Park, which is a venue for Mornington Football (soccer) club. Unity Park affords panoramic views across the central city, and is the site of a statue of Antarctic explorer Admiral Richard Byrd, commemorating the 1928 departure for the southern continent from Dunedin by Byrd's 1928 expedition. Landmarks within Mornington include the suburb's former post office in Mailer Street, a distinctive building completed in 1905 with small a mock-Byzantine domed tower above the entrance.

This is a nice park! On windy days it's sheltered behind some trees, which also provides a partition from the road- much more aesthetically pleasing!
It has good equipment and plenty of room which makes it good for kids. It also has a nice big football field that is rarely in use which is great for people going on a run- I know I've used it for this purpose!
Other handy aspects are the very nearby public bathroom and 24 hour dairy just across the road.
My only worry is that some strange and vaguely unpleasant seeming folk seem to live/spend a lot of time in some of the trees, which does make it a little less safe. Not advisable to let kids be there without close adult supervision.
