Reviews of The Organ Pipes
R.
Amazing, we even climb to the top.
Amazing views.
S.
A good walking track, but nothing exciting once you reach the organ pipes..
T.
Very nice spot for sightseeing and looking for fantails. It's a shame about all the graffiti, though.
H.
Great place for adventure and walk, awesome view on a sunny day.
C.
A great shortish walk which provides fabulous views and interesting geologic rock columns.
H.
As a walk this is pleasant, but a word of caution, this should only be done by the sure footed.
The track in is dirt and stone and has some steep parts, so even with a little precipitation this track is quite slippery: wear good shoes.
Secondly, the very last section to the organ pipes is a steep climb over stones and rocks: not for the faint hearted or kids.
Parking is very limited at the start too, maybe for 4-6 cars only, depending on how they are parked!
R.
Beautiful walk through bush to the base of the rocks. Lots of native fusha. Short scramble over some fallen columns and you are there. Dunedin is one of only 4 places in the world you can find this awesome type of rock formation, also known as ‘columnar jointing’. The Organ Pipes were formed as lava from an ancient volcano cooled, with fracking (shrinking and cracking) of the rock occurring vertically, creating 6-sided columns. Terrific views of Dunedin. A must visit spot.
B.
We had a great walk. Stopped at the top for lunch and watched the details flit around with the stunning views in the background
V.
The Climb to the top is really scary, be careful and wear gloves if it is cold.
But it is worth it. It’s quite the work out, so be prepared and don’t climb up the rocks after the track ends if you are not comfortable because it can be unsafe.
The view is amazing. About 1 hour return.
P.
Way more steeper for the first 15 minutes than described, slippy through the bush walk and a scramble up the rocks at the end. Loveky views from the top. My knees were not happy coming down though!
H.
Beautiful, even on a foggy day!
L.
It’s really nice place! 👍🏻👍🏻
Actually I’m not sure what are that stone things 😂😂 anyway It’s nice. You can also climb that organ pipes then you can see nice view😆
Be careful it’s steep and there is not path. Just climb up yourself. After this pipes you can keep walking mt Cargil as well
C.
Beautiful vistas- but woah you better not be scared of heights!
e.
This is the best view of Dunedin you’ll get. Looking from the city centre right out over the beautiful Otago Peninsular. Not a long drive to get up there but be prepared for it to be much colder up there.
J.
Great walk for all levels of experience. Stunning views from the top over Blueskin Bay. Not wheelchair or buggy friendly.
E.
Quite a steep hike but rewarding, not good with kids and families.
R.
A good day hike for the family, be prepared for a lot of are we there yets, the view is definitely worth the effort
R.
A great walk so choose to town and great views
S.
Great short walk through lovely bush. Fabulous views when you get there.
J.
Great views of Dunedin! It's a gravel road up the top and is quite dangerous in the winter as the road freezes over
B.
Great views. Can drive up the whole way.
V.
Beautiful view, quick hike to the top.
A.
We almost skipped this as I wasn't sure how interesting this would be but I'm so glad we went! It was one our favorite things we did in New Zealand and we were there for a month. The parking lot isn't large. The way people were parked, only 3 cars could fit. We initially started hiking down the other path and then realized this wasn't correct. The path is in the parking area, not across the road.As someone mentioned, the path is well-marked. We consider ourselves decently in shape and we were sweaty from the hike. I had also read somewhere that it was a 'short hike' and perhaps in the grand scheme of things, that's the case but it's not a mere 10 minutes either.
D.
These are amazing Basalt Columns that were naturally formed and seem to be 'falling off' the face of the mountain. You can walk on these huge rocks and get some pretty amazing photos. If you are going to hike the easy hike up Mt. Cargill, Organ Pipes are a must see.
P.
Great walk. Lots of steep steps but the views are worth it. Make sure you go on a sunny day.
Y.
During school holiday, we went for a walk from the bottom of Mount Cargill, Bethune's Gully to the top. Left just after lunch time and had a break 3 times on our way up and took probably 2 hours since we had three kids including 8 year old. Fantastic view and beautiful bird sound in the bush. On a way down way faster so took 3.5 hours in total probably.
K.
Brilliant views towards blueskin bay, and only a short walk from the road! If you're a little more adventurous you can carry on to the top of Mt Cargill and add in some great views back toward town and the harbour.
G.
It's a great hike from Organ pipes to Mount Cargill. Parking space can be problematic if you want to start from Organ pipes. Good opportunity to take landscape photos. Atop Mt. Cargill, chilly winds prevail so a windcheater can be of help. Great view of Port chalmers and Dunedin city from the top.
M.
The Organs look OK. After a short stop you can go further up and have 360 view.
A.
This is definitely a must see place in Dunedin. Reserve 2-3 hrs for a hike there. You will end up on a summit of a volcano with an awesome view on Dunedin and the Otago peninsula. Hike is very worth it.
G.
What amazing rock formations these are! Incredible views. Lovely bush track with some fun scrambling.
M.
Great experience. Just make sure to check the rocks before you step or hold on to them. Some are loose. Don't go if it rained the night before, it can be slippery.
A.
Awesome views
P.
Every time we come to Dunedin. A great walk but steep on the way up if you're not a fan of hills.
P.
Great view of Dunedin and Otago peninsula
C.
Awsome
G.
Not easy walk to arrive, a lot of step and Steep in some point. The view from the organ pipe is amazing. The organ pipe rock are up to the access point and you have to climb in the middle of Brocken rock.
C.
Awesome walk. And the last steep bit is totally worth it. Amazing views of the whole city and harbour from the top
F.
Wild area with great views very close to the city.
B.
If you’re in the Port Chalmers area this is a great convenience-to-view raitio. Only took us ten minutes to drive to the trailhead and less than twenty minutes to reach the pipes. Trail was stocked with lush vegetation including fern and flax with a beautiful panoramic view of Mt. Cargill and parts of Otago Harbour.
G.
Beautiful place to relax and find your inner peace
p.

M.
A nice walk but most of the pipes have fallen.

(Translated) About 15 minutes by car from Dunedin. The entrance is a little confusing, but you can easily try it because it is close to the city.
(Original)
Dunedinから車で15分程度。入り口が少しわかりにくいけど、街から近いので気軽にトライできる。
E.
(Translated) Compared to other nature tours in New Zealand, we found this less fascinating. But a nice view from the top.
(Original)
Vergeleken met andere natuurtochten in Nieuw-Zeeland vonden we dit minder boeiend. Maar wel een fijn uitzicht van op de top.
