Reviews of Tunnel Beach Walk
K.
Stunning views and a great hidden beach
Make sure to take water, the trail is very steep
S.
We had a really great time here. The ramp to the beach is a little challenging but absolutely interesting. The view is simply phenomenal and excellent.
K.
Amazing views and a nice walk, steep in places but just go at your own pace
c.
Just walk for 30 minutes; that's more than enough to return. It could be dangerous if you go right after raining or when it's too windy.
R.
Absolutely stunning! Steep walk so you do need a reasonable level of fitness, mainly to get back up.
J.
Simply stunning! What a great sight to explore and see the amazing rock formations and beautiful sand beach at the bottom. Go near low tide to get down onto the beach/rocks. 1hr return approx but all depends how long the place captivates you. 😊
W.
Beautiful spot in Dunedin and the scenery is amazing. I would agree it is a bit of a walk and probably not that suitable with a stroller, especially through the tunnel itself. It's about a 30 to 40 mins walk each way and not much shade. The tunnel can be slippery when wet and there is not much standing room on the other side.
R.
This is a very nice and scenic place just outside Dunedin, towards south.
The access to the beach is via a private property, though it is easy.
The walkway to the beach is downhill and can be slippery on a rainy day.
The views from the top of the cliff are majestic and well enjoyed on a sunny day.
The brown sandstone cliffs make it even more beautiful. Certainly there is a similarity between the Great Ocean Road in Melbourne and this place.
Access to the beach is via a narrow downhill tunnel with narrow steps in it. Caution is required while climbing down, due to dampness.
The views and the rocky beach are worth the effort to climb down and come up.
We also got to see a seal relaxing on the rocks, which was a big bonus. It did feel scary to go such close to it though.
Highly recommended place to spend half a day.
J.
Good 1 hour walk down and up the cliff. Bring your hiking shoes. Beach (rocky shore) was accessible at high tide for 15m down a tunnel cut into the rock.
A.
Awesome walk but wear good shoes as was long, steep and slippery in parts.
Well worth the trek though.
N.
This is a steep climb. Take water. The beach is not for swimming at. Amazing scenery, do not climb over the barriers. The return hike will have you wondering if it was worth it, but on reflection in the car, you will decide it was!
L.
A steep walk down, but stunning views!
M.
Loved the views and the tunnel itself. Loads of photo opportunities. The walking track is very good but very steep. Portaloos at the top car park were much appreciated.
H.
The 'tunnel beach' itself wasn't that impressive but the view on the way there is WOW.
Went there early in the morning, I was the only one there and it was so cool. It got way busier around midday--was in the car park for hrs doing some stuff. Recommend to visit early.
D.
Try to go earlier to beat the crowds. The car park was packed so we knew we were in for a treat with it being so popular. Awesome view as you make your way down the steep track. Take water! Picture perfect setting. Tunnel is so awesome. Be careful at the bottom because can be slippery. So many good angles for picture taking. Really nice beach just for looking not swimming. Steep on the way back up but very very worth it if you're in the area
C.
Great walk, pretty steep but worth it even on a cold windy day. Beautiful scenery. Loved it.
P.
Exploring the sea-carved sandstone cliffs, rock arches and caves at Tunnel Beach. There is a tunnel to go down to the spectacular, rocky coastline. And also views from the cliffs above are amazing. This is the finest, gorgeous beach that I have ever seen. Strongly recommended. 👌👍
J.
Beautiful.little spot. The ocean really presents its power at this spot.
A nice little walk down a flight of starlirs that tunnel through the rocks (hense the name) is easy as well as impressive when you contemplate the engineering that it would of taken to complete.
I would recommend this 1 hour return walk for the experience.
J.
A surprisingly intense short walk. Very steep.
Takes to to some great ocean views of sea-sculpted bluffs. Those willing to ignore the warning signs can go out onto the beautiful sandstone bluffs jutting into the ocean.
The tunnel itself is almost hidden, but is a nice treat.
M.
Absolutely beautiful place to take a walk! The path down was steep, so have good traction on your shoes, but it's an easy enough walk. Long, but easy - fine to do with kids. The views of the beach and the cliffs are stunning.
c.
It is quite a long steep walk down, then walking through a tunnel in the rock (with slippery steps), then across boulders to get to the beach. I saw many senior people walking down and back up so it's doable but I found the walk back up quite tiring.
I have taken pictures of the walk, the tunnel and the boulders so you get an idea of what you are in for 😁
It's definitely worth it to see the rocks and tunnels. I also loved the beach. I didn't see any seals but apparently there were some hiding.
A.
If you go there (you should), ideally drive or cycle. The walk to the start of the official beach walk is not really nice (very busy street). The views however were totally worth it. What a niceb and impressive place. Just sit there and watch the waves hiring the cliffs!
S.
I would highly recommend this place. The scenery reminded me a lot of the Great Ocean Road. There are different areas you can go do for viewing, but please be careful as it can be very windy. Also, certain areas are very muddy that you would not be able to notice.
Also, keep in mind that the walk back is very steep but it should not be too difficult.
s.
Very scenic spot. Half a km down hill is all that is required to witness the beauty of the shore line. The strange created rocky patterns give a very naturally artistic back ground any image. Requires some effort to climb back. Beautiful place.
D.
Fantastic place! Not difficult to go down. You can take your time and enjoy the great view of the cliffs. Good maintenance of the place. Worthy of visiting.
M.
Very steep and we found a lot of sand fly on the cliff above the beach but Tunnel Beach it's self was unique. Taking the steps down you feel you are entering a secret space. Make sure you visit at low tide and take time to wonder at the rocks towering above you. Take water with you from the car park, you will need it on the way back up.
B.
This is a great place to go for a walk along with awesome views. You can even walk through the tunnel cut into the cliff face to walk down to the water below. The walk down the track is nice and easy on the well maintained track but it is a little more hard work to walk back up.
S.
Great walk, quite steep walk in places. If walking down to the beach beware of seals which rest on the rocks. Our 3 and 5 year old did it!
R.
Amazing view at this place. Good place for hiking too. Just make sure to bring a windbreaker and proper walking shoes as it's an easy way down to the end of the path, but a tiring, leg cramp-inducing walk back up to the car park.
J.
A lovely walk and very scenic. The tunnel steps were rather slippery but great to see the seals.
R.
Well worth a walk to view these beautiful cliffs and tunnel. We had a great view of a seal swimming around.
S.
Beautiful beach!! Parking a little sparse but if you get one it's totally worth it!
I would suggest trying to go earlier to beatvthebriff Raff and get the beach for yourself, the empty beach with its imposing cliffs on every side is a sight to behold.
I almost consider this a must see if you're in the area, really loved it.
J.
One of my favourite quick tourist stops in the area. Get a 3 for 1 with the stunning coastal cliffs, unique sea formations, and the cool tunnel walk down to a secluded beach.
Highly recommend stopping off for an explore and some great photo opportunities.
J.
Killer walk down and back up from this beach, do not advise to do if you're not fit and healthy. At the bottom there is a tunnel craved out of the stone to reach a small beach and some impressive sandstone features.
R.
Amazing view.. The walk up is way more tiring than the way down but worth it!
M.
Beautiful beach and splendid hiking for hill walkers. Takes half hour walk downhill and half hour walk uphill. One of the many awesome places in Dunedin New Zealand.
N.
Amazing. Awesome. Breathtaking. NZ feels.
P.
Great view.
Walk way is pretty steep.
Takes around 1 hour.
Should go at low tide.
S.
A really scenic place to visit! It was an easy hike down but it took a bit more effort climbing back up. It was totally worth it though for the view! We managed to walk down a narrow tunnel down to the beach. It was low tide then. We took many beautiful photos there.
R.
Beautiful walk, beautiful view. In my top 3 places to visit in Dunedin.
A.
Pleasant 1 hour walk roundtrip ( faster if you are young or fit ). Track is paved despite the steep incline with a rewarding view of the coastline and the roar of the crashing waves against the cliffs. At the end you will see a 20ish meter long steep man made tunnel leading to the beach. This is also a place for Aurora Australis sightings. No loo in this area and please do not bring any rubbish.
G.
An interesting walk, but steep in places. Well worth the effort though.
S.
Beautiful walk, rather steep so not for faint hearted
J.
Hate to press the 5 star as it was a love-hate situation. Taking the trail down to the beach was a breeze because it is a down slope all the way. But walking back from the beach to were we started is a tiring upslope! Do be prepared to sweat when walking back up. Once you reach the bottom, there is a cave leading you to the beach. Do take note on the time you reach there. If it is high tide, you might not be able to get to the beach. Overall this is a must-see in NZ! Love this place! #J2ACE
T.
It's a short, steep hike down past a spectacular sandstone arch and towering cliffs to find a secret passage hidden under a bush, leading down through the rock to a cute, sheltered beach with a waterfall and Best enjoyed at low tide. Swimming is not recommended due to dangerous currents.
R.
Amazing views to start off, after a steep walk down to the cliffs there is an interesting tunnel to a beautiful beach with an intriguing history.
A.
Absolutely breathtaking....doesn't seem like it can even be real, we were blown away. Nice little hike to, epically all the uphill on the way back 😋 also there are no toilets...so just be prepared to hold it.
H.
Worth the walk for the photos, even on a dull day.
Among the best free activities in the Dunedin area — if you’ve got the time. The sign says an hour, and this is a reasonable estimate even with plenty of photos, so long as you don’t want to linger. Do allow for more time if you’re less fit, bringing children, or otherwise might struggle with the solid uphill slope on the return.
R.
It was a steep treck. Wear shoes with proper grip. And note that trecking back up is not easy if your not fit. Went down the tunnel.. but not much of a beach.
V.
Great place to come and see really good scenery. If you fit you can make your way down in 10 min. Up about 20. Good stopping points along the track.
J.
The greatest and most epic hike. I enjoyed every second of it. Be aware that it is very steep and not recommended for elderly or unfit people. Walk walk walk.
G.
It's a short distance from the peak to the beach. But the road was a bit steep, we are all very tired after climbing up back to the carpark. Golden field and blue sky and sea. Amazing 😍
Y.
Tunnel Beach Walkway, a sandstone tunnel cut in 1870 by Edward Cargill so that his family could get down to the pretty beach below (this walk is closed
from August
S.
Beautiful view! Very steep on the way down so be prepared for a bit of climb on the way back.
C.
Quite steep but very worth it we were there for sunrise it was sooo nice
B.
Superb! Great swimming too! Fun all around to walk around, climb around, and super easy to get to from Dunedin.
D.
Went early evening was a lovely walk down. Climbed down to water. Walk up was steep but well worth it
m.
Great place to visit not far from Dunedin City. Steep track, but in great condition and easy to walk. Make sure to go down the tunnel onto the beach. Stunning coast, a must see when in Dunedin.
R.
This short walk goes through an excavated tunnel kids will love, to a secluded beach and a spectacular, rocky coastline.
M.
Great little walk! Be sure to go to the actual tunnel beach (through a little tunnel) - its a bit hidden but well worth the visit.
The walk back up is a bit steep so take some water!
C.
This was a nice walk! It was awfully steep going back up, but worth it. Excellent views and a fun tunnel to walk through to get down to the beach/rocks.
R.
This is one of my favourite places in New Zealand. Such a beautiful spot with amazing cliffs dropping straight down into a cold southern ocean. A must do for any trip to Dunedin.
G.
Spectacular!! further off the road than I thought. be sure to take your camera. A steepish climb back up, good practice for the steepest street.
d.
Not a long walk, but the way back is hard and up. Great spot for photos!
m.
Easy walk cool place, not too windy either, bit slippery if it's wet
P.
Nice place for a short walk, return trip down to the beach should not take more than 2 hours. May be quite windy here, so be prepared for that.
C.
Highly recommended, one of the best walks I've done! Phenomenal views and scenes that are one of a kind!
M.
very steep walk but some nice views and a awesome little tunnel down to the beach. would not suggest swimming
C.
The pictures speak for themselves! The sheer power of nature artistry at work here. Regret it if you didnt visit this amazing area. However be really prepared for strong winds and a really challenging climb after all the ooo and ahhh along the way down!
M.
Loved this rugged cove / beach, does require some fitness to get up and down to the tunnel but it is worth it
M.
Visit at low tide. The beach is completely cover in water at high tide. Good fitness level required there is all uphill walking on the return.
s.
Nice walk for 1 hour with beautiful views. The stairs can be slippery.
K.
Extraordinary place with great panoramic view at the sea.
M.
Low tide, sunrise and calm weather made for a memorable visit.
M.
Awesome place to unwind with friends and loved ones. Extra careful though when going down and up the tunnel since the steps might be wet and slippery😊
M.
Amazing views, definitely worth the hike!
D.
Fantastic views and something free and a little bit different.
The walk back up is not easy but it is well kept so no rough ground to traverse.
m.
Jesus, I thought I was gonna die. The walk is steep! Wear good footwear!!
K.
Awesome walk. But best not done in 29 degrees as we did. It's a bit of a killer but the views and beach at the bottom is worth it.
M.
beautiful even on a foggy day!
Prepared to climb up hills and hills. But it is an easy track
D.
A bit of a steep walk down and then back up....track is awesome... wouldn't say no to more seats on the track.. awesome views ..lots of people there...a seal on the rocks at the bottom of the tunnel made my day...
R.
Amazing. Well signposted. Amazing views. Do not underestimate the steep walk back to the car park: it can be challenging for those who are not physically fit, but there's plenty of seating along the way.
M.
Have to be fit to go down to the beach from the carpark then up again. Apart from this, the views are insanely beautiful
S.
Wow what an amazing place, a bit of a walk down to the beach but its worth it. The views are breathtaking and worth the walk down. Must visit when in the area. There are seats on the way down for people who want to rest in between. Great for kids and family.
R.
She's a hard walk back up that cliff but then as AC / DC says.
"it's a long way to the shops if you want a sausage roll"
well worth the effort. Low tide and calm seas for added awesomeness ness
R.
It's amazing, and worth it. However, it's a heck of a walk. You might think it's a long way from your car to the start of the path, but that's just peanuts compared to the walk down to the beach.
Make sure you have grippy shoes. And drinking water. It's not a terribly long walk, but it's steep, seriously steep. It's tricky going down and hard work going up. You don't have to be super fit, just pace yourself, but it's quite hard. The walk up took us around 20 minutes, so it's not long, but any steeper and you would be wanting handrails or crampons.
The car parking is a struggle because the best time to go is low tide and everyone goes at low tide.
The tunnel is quite small, I am tall and broad and it was quite claustrophobic. It's very much one-way in there, and easier to ascend than descend, particularly if you have large feet.
There was a seal near the bottom, just chilling, and it's a nice spot down there, no question. Tricky walking over the rocks down the bottom, too, not slippery but technical.
r.
Amazing views. Great little piece of Dunedin history. Very accessible.
M.
Beautiful And picturesque. The walk towards tunnel beach itself can be trying. The slope is steep and can be slippery.
D.
About a 20 minute hike down to a pretty beach with really cool rock formations. Worth the stop!
h.
A brilliant view and well worth the effort to walk down. But be prepared with good walking shoes as it is quite steep.
Fantastic scenery and sealions amongst the rocks. It will take about an hour to walk down and back, allowing for some rest stops on the way back 😂
J.
Beautiful views. Love the beach through the tunnel. Watch for high tide as beach is inaccessible if it is.
J.
Don't get me wrong. Absolutely beautiful once you get there.. but the walk is sooooo steep and basically punishes you for even attempting to see the famous 'tunnel beach'
C.
Beautiful place, not too busy due to challenging walk to and from.
C.
Didnt go down, path too steep for elderly unless fit!
s.
Great views and definitely recommended to visit..
V.
The view is stunning. The walk there and back was physically challenging because I am asthmatic . However it was amazing and rewarding all the same. I loved the whole time I spent there.
Definitely a place not to be missed while visiting Dunedin.
Incredible.
R.
Nice short walk.
M.
A great place for a walk. About a10 minutes walk down (15 up) to the tunnel from the free car parking.
Wear sturdy shoes, as it can be steep in places.
Dogs not allowed.
C.
If you are walking the first part.. You are probably thinking about going back up when you see the distance. Don't do it! Go all the way, you will not regret it!
P.
Lovely spot to see. It'll take you about 20 minutes to walk down and may be up to 30min to walk up as it is quite steep for some people. Today was a calm day with little drizzling and the steps inside the tunnel are wet but nog slippery. I just wish the council or whoever is managing the tunnel beach to add a rail inside for people to hang on while walking. Apart from that it's a beautiful place to visit and the view is wonderful.
阿.
Awesome view! It's worth it for 30 minutes walking
C.
The place itself is beautiful. Definitely plan to come out when tide is low so you can go down the tunnel steps to the beach. If you're not too fit like me you might take a while to walk back up the big hill. Also, note that parking is tight on busy days to be prepared to park a bit further back.
There are signs not to walk off the track when on the rock formations, so as not to disturb the flora. It was sad to see everyone ignoring the signs. Maybe they could put some more railing up, so there's a path that goes on to the rock formation but protects most other areas. Also I don't remember seeing any signs to keep away from the seals. I'm sure most people know but might be good just in case.
S.
Short steep walk to a very interesting spot.
N.
Top pick for Dunedin, stunning. VERY STEEP. You can go down five minutes for nice view without going all way down.
J.
Steep track
Well maintained
Worth it
Like a lost cove for smugglers 😉
U.
View was awesome.. didn't expect the hiking though.. but once you reach it's worth it..
A.
It is beautiful, but it is exhausting when walk back to car park. It is good for you to burn calories.
M.
Cool view but steep steps to go downhill and even more steep when you go back ;-)
M.
A bit steep on the way up, but worth it
M.
The scenery is so awsome although the way back is a bit tired. Good Walk!
L.
I was in MIQ for 14 days and had beautiful room at the Airport Novatel. If I had to be quarantined it had to be here. It was a lovely sunny room on the corner of the hotel so I had 2 different views. I had a bedroom and a lounge with a lovely modern bathtub which I frequently used.
O.
Great view to cliffs nearby the sea. A small Beach is also available for swimming but the waves are a bit strong.
S.
A mazing views track in good condition to to track down to the beach
A.
Beautiful attraction. Walk is hard when returning.
A.
Wow, really worth it. Good for kids and possible seals as well
L.
The walk down is tricky. The beach is amazing. The walk back up is challenging!
A.
It was nice walk good vibes
T.
1 hr return track. Going down: no issue. Coming back
Up? >.<||| very tiring ~~~~~
There's no toilet, so be prepared.
W.
Beautiful coastline. A strenuous walk but worth going all the way to the beach. (low tide only) And keep clear of the cliff edges.
S.
Lovely place..very steep walk..but nice path!
U.
Good service and good collections I'm happy with bantia
M.
A gorgeous walk that is minutes from the city. The walk down has breathtaking views, and it is a beautiful space for some quiet contemplation. The walk back up may be challenging for some, but the incline is gentle (just persistent) and it's well worth the visit.
M.
Some amazing scenery. Great walk (note: you do want a medium amount of fitness due to the incline but slow and steady works as well). Impressive tunnel and very novel. Keep the kids close on a windy day as there are exposed ledges
B.
Just fantastic. It was very windy and it is quite a steep walk but the views of the cliff and surrounding area are fantastic. It's worth the walk. Try and time your visit so the tide is out and then you can walk through the tunnel down to the breach itself. The beach and rocks are amazing.
M.
Great sights, the tunnel is very cool and unique. The beach itself is perhaps a bit underwhelming, it's really just a small bit of sandy beach like you'll find anywhere.
Note that it's a fairly steep walk back up to the carpark, and it can get quite windy. Not the best experience when it's cold and raining, but really nice when it's dry.
G.
Good walk on a well formed track through private farm land, but it is quite steep. Great views. The beach itself is accessed through a steep stepped tunnel and I think that you would not get on to the beach at high tide. At the top of the beach there are many slippery rocks to climb over so a stick would be helpful.
It's a small beach sheltered by towering cliffs, absolutely awesome!
A.
Great walk, great view!
M.
Amazing Place, wonderful, quiet
T.
A Beautiful beach with excellent photo ops. Our kids also enjoyed a swim at the base of the tunnel. I wouldn't recommend for pushchairs, or people with low fitness as the hike down is quite steep, and very strenuous back up.
J.
Beautiful walk, as long as you don't mind a steep climb back to your car! The beach itself boasts some impressive scenery which is good for photos, and children should enjoy the tunnel and cave (keep a close eye on children due to exposed cliffs).
A.
This is a must do
H.
You must go here I highly recommend this breathtaking place.
L.
I love this walk. Definitly worth it. You can meet a seal like me. :)
R.
Fabulous and beautiful walk and scenery on the way down to tunnel beach. But for those building up the years be slow and meticulous on the way back up. It's a great cardio workout but may be a bit much for some. Stop and take rests.
A.
Beautiful walk. With a forever stretching horizon coupled with grand cliff faces, and crashing waves it makes for a beautiful site. The walk down is a bit treacherous, with slipping rocks, and the walk up is quite tiring so just be aware of that. Would recommend this spot at sunset.
A.
Tough walk back up but worth it to see seals when you make it through the man made tunnel to the beach
A.
Stunning View !! You may see sleeping seals.
G.
This is a phenomenal place to visit! The walk down is very steep, but the path is well maintained. When you get down to the bottom by the cliffs, you'll see why this is 5 stars. Don't miss out on the actual tunnel leading down to the water, I almost walked right by it because I was so focused on the cool cliffs.
T.
Nice walk with a great view over the Pacific Ocean. Approximately one hour return from Tunnel Beach.
L.
Great place to visit for a brisk hike, the pano views of the rugged coastline, and the namesake tunnel. The hike can be a strenuous one coming back up as it is steep incline on a dirt path, so allow an hour to fully do the hike down, enjoy, and the hike back up. The “tunnel” where the stairs take you down to the actual beach can be slippery when it rains and you have to climb over several large rocks to get to the beach from the end of the tunnel, which can be a bit perilous, especially in the rain.
You do traverse private property, so there are signs everywhere stating to not stray from the marked trail. It is a pretty easy place to find via GPS and there is not really designated parking, so I just pulled up along a fence in front of the entrance and did not have any problems.
A.
It is a steep walk and can be slippery on loose stones/gravel depending on footwear. They suggest a 1hr round walk but allow longer to enjoy the view and surrounds at the bottom. There is no water or toilets at the bottom. Take your own water and use the temporary toilet facilities at the start.
I.
Fantastic place and you get a leg workout for free
A.
The view is breathtaking. Please make sure you actually enter the "tunnel" that goes down to the beach. Seems some people are confused and believe it is called Tunnel Beach due to the many "tunnel" rock formations. The tunnel itself is short and steep but should not be a problem. Going back up the steep hill can be challenging. Overall should go.
E.
If you are here, is nice to see...
E.
Really amazing creations. U shld pay a visit if you have drop by Dunedin.
G.
Good path down to beach but very steep. Have to time your visit to low tide or you can’t get onto the beach.
A.
Nice place to visit
S.
Wow... A bit of a hike, but we'll worth every step. Shown up by the 3 year old grandchild who walked there and back by herself.
B.
Worth it. Nice walk.
D.
Beautiful on a sunny day. Gorgeous views but would recommend good walking shoes, drink bottle & camera. Very steep but well worth the hike!
A.
My son and daughter loved this experience well worth exploring
K.
Absolutely gorgeous. It does take around an hour round trip and its a bit more than a walk. But we loved it. Would 100% go again.
H.
Rate this place big time. Definitely no place for a picnic unless you feel like taking your time to get back to the top. Awesome place to get a decent leg work out trying to get back to the top without a few breaks on the way
M.
Steep walk, do your stretches beforehand!
J.
Epic views, a very steep walk so do not try it in heavy rain or in jandals. Great little private beach with a very cool carved walkway down. Portaloos at the top of the hill.
J.
a hidden place you would forget all the matters. Just close to the natural
C.
It was really beautiful and breathtaking view. Takes about 1 hour for the walk and there was a seal down the tunnel
S.
Tunnel beach is most beautiful beach of south NewZealand. It is not very far from city centre. A bit far but walkable from center city. It is really worth of a visit in a clear sunny day. With blue sky, the beautiful of tunnel beach is stunning. Don't forget to use a hat and sunscreen while walking through the tunnel. If you come to Otago, must visit the place. Cheers!
J.
Walk was a bit difficult but worth it!
K.
Love this place.
J.
An hour walk. Have to be careful of loose gravels going down. It's a little challenging walking back up. However, it's worth it! The view was breathtaking!
A.
Perfect for pictures but I would advise to go in the afternoon due to the sun ruining pictures. The walk was rough because it was very steep.
R.
Nice place to hangout on holidays and a perfect beach destination
B.
What an awesome natural MUST SEE visit! BEWARE ... no-one EVER tells you about the walk back up the hill. Be prepared to walk up a huge hill that pales in comparison however to how awesome Tunnel Beach actually is! :)
L.
Beautiful walk to a kind of secret beach. It is steep so no flip flops. Then enjoy the view view and the sound of the waves hitting the rocks.
J.
If you want touring dunedin all day, don't planned this place at first point, the walk way isn't easy to walk, but the view is best in dunedin, it worth to climb the slope
D.
Definitely a must see place the tunnel down to the beach was beautiful! Was a steep walk down so a great way to get some exercise!
D.
A great walking path leading down a steep hill to the cliffs over Tunnel Beach, then down through the eponymous tunnel down to the beach itself. Beautiful, and a great photo spot.
V.
cool and steep
M.
Great walk, but beach doesn't exist there, so name is wrong.
However, great views there
L.
It was an awesome walk and view going down there and safe too. Coming back up is quite hard unfortunately.. as it's only a steep and no steps.
A.
Yep, we've been here, very beautiful place you smell the fresh air from the sea and nice sceneries
R.
It's one of must do in Dunedin region.
The walk is easy and beautiful and to get to the beach, you have to cross a small tunnel. It's incredibly beautiful.
D.
Beautiful place close to Dunedin
S.
Awesome place. The views are excellent. The walk is a bit steep but worth it.
D.
Really enjoyed this walk. Spetacular part of the coast. Beware of the hill back up though!
N.
Absolutely loved it even tho it os veeeery steep going. Definitely worth checking out tho.
h.
Gold on a nice day. Clean sand, good spaces for pictures. The walk back requires either time or being sufficiently fit (I took the first option)
A.
You walk down a steep path to the water which is around 500 mtrs from the car park. It's the climbing back which blows you.
R.
Superb views and loved the steep walk back.
Good workout
Some appeared to struggle.
b.
Walking down was easy Walking back bit difficult. Worth doing the walk.
j.
Stunning and the tunnel is fascinating
Z.
Awesome walk, hard work but amazing view
B.
Girlfriend thinks the walk isn't worth it. I thought it was cool though.
A.
Long walk! Breathtaking views. Take some water with you! Youll need it when you go back up the hill.
d.
Wow love this place steep walk down I suggest doing this early in the morning or late in the evening when it is not so hot but it is well worth the walk loved it could even do this again

M.

A.
very beautiful landscape, great place for a photo shoot
A.
The view is spectacular. But the safety barriers are a joke. Found my daughter standing on the edge of a cliff
O.
Definitely worth to visit. Beautiful cliffs and ocean. Fure seals are sometimes on the small stony beach under the tunnel.
S.
Awesome place, awesome experience. Worth the effort and time. You will know what I mean by effort. 😆
K.
Need to wear proper shoes (i.e. sport or hiking shoes) as the trail leading to the beach is pretty steep
M.
Good & 1 hour walk..m
A.
It's 150 vertical meters down to the beach, so don't attempt it if you don't like climbing or are unsteady on your feet. Well worth the effort though.
J.
Must do when in nz, skip eg cathedral cove (this place was garbage). Very nice views pit it on your list...
y.
Beautiful hike! Going downhill is alright but you will feel it when heading back
S.
Beautiful place to visit. The hike back up the hill can be a little painfull though
j.
It's an awesome view. Be prepared for an hour walk. Still worth going.
H.
Didn't do the whole walk but loved going far enough to plan next time!
M.
Visiting during summer is good. You can do swimming. The water is warn and feels like you are in an island.

Amazing, well worth the steep walk
C.
Nice walk along the path leading to the beach and tunnel. The sea breeze really cooling.
L.
Great walk, great scenery although gets strong wind sometimes.
S.
Great walk to a great location. Make sure the tide is out for best experience on the beach at the end of the tunnel.
C.
Beautiful and amazing hike down to the beach. Steep and hard hike back up. Worth it!
V.
Beware the walk to the tunnel beach from carpark, shoes are highly recommended. Tunnel is to the left when you have just arrived at the bottom of the 🚶
M.
So beautiful to walk! Definitely a afternoon trip worth!
E.
Tought steep walk back up, but absolutely worth it, stunning views
P.
It's a must if you visit Dunedin. Peaceful place when there are not too many people around, just you and the waves
K.
Fantastic views. More of a medium difficulty walk with the steep hill walk.
R.
Good walk and exercise when there is not windy. Nice place to visit.
M.
Amazing!
V.
