A must visit in Hamilton. You could easily spend a few hours exploring the gardens. We only had enough time for some of the enclosed gardens. They were outstanding. Kudos to the designers of these. Each different garden felt so unique and fitting their respective styles. Japanese garden was definitely my favorite. It was so peaceful. Right up until a couple of loads of families with kids showed up!

What a beautiful place. I love it how there are different ares with different themes. Even the way you transition from 1 area to another is honestly something else. The place is huge so you do get a decent walk around while enjoying the landscape. Definitely worth the visit.

Stunning grounds but go early & do flowers garden first then do Park grounds as it got very hot fast on our day. Good Cafe with plenty of seating inside & out or take a panic. Great play ground for kids.

A cute and beautiful garden. Best to not go on a very hot day as there is barely any shelter and it is a lot of walking. Lots of spots for photo taking especially if not packed. Lots of parking available which was great 👍🏽

Entrance and parking is free, if you're ever in Hamilton it's a must visit. If you don't rush you can spend the whole day here because there is so much to see. Never a bad day at the Hamilton gardens !!

What an amazing place. Must go back again, hopefully in the Spring so I can see the rhododendrons and other spring flowers. So much to see. Love the separate "rooms" of different types of gardens. Well worth the drive.

The best experience in Hamilton. This is a must to go and explore. This is not your usual garden it's a real experience so spend some time and explore all this place has to offer.

What a wonderful place to visit with the family, beautiful gardens and each one felt so distinct and separated from the others. Looking forward to visiting again and finding all the gardens we didn't have time to explore on our first trip.

Simply amazing! Highly highly recommend, stunning throughout gardens of amazing colour and design. So much to take in, the kids were amazed also.

Going to the steampunk session and was blown away by these gardens. Loads of parking, a great cafe indoor / outdoor and some amazing gardens from different Countries and periods of time.

Such a great day out with the kids. The enclosed gardens were magical and mysterious.... can't wait to go back again

Beautiful gardens with views of Waikato river. Not giving it a 5 because many of the gardens that we would really want to visit is closed for renovation.

The Rose garden part, our utopia all the time. The gardeners always make it tidy and marvelous. The newly built section of Thermal Explorer Highway (Hwy 1.) around the garden is torturous than before, too serpentine to be honest. Slow down and drive safely then enjoy the garden trip

Great place to spend the day, lots of different styles of gardens to walk through, from different parts of the world. It's no wonder that it's a world famous garden.

I was just expecting many flowers growing in the dirt, but I was blown away. Hamilton Gardens is epic and it is free. We spent about 2 hours there and probably could have spent another half hour exploring some corners of the garden we missed.

If you’ve got time, or if you don’t have time - make the time - to wander these gardens! Ideally not during a 29 degree day in the middle of the summer holidays with every other tourist! But do check them out. Looking forward to seeing them expand and extend with new gardens in the future. Something for everyone here.

Super beautiful place to visit please put your trash in the bins and not all over the beautiful garden ground also remember the donation pole at the entrance it helps keeping this place so beautiful... enjoy the view, Café and Ice-cream when you come out🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

A great FREE activity and lots of good photo opps. Lots of information regarding the different gardens. Would definitely take glasses and a hat especially on a sunny day. There is a cafe and souvenir shop and the only toilet is at the beginning. Heeaapps of walking so if youre not used to walking just prepare yourself mentally lol 🚨WEAR COMFY SHOES AS THERE IS A LOT OF WALKING 🚨Wear sunscreen especially on a hot day 🚨Vaccine passport required (we went 31/01/2022)

A favourite place to visit in Hamilton, so much to see and all for free, all kinds of different gardens. The paddling pool in the modernist garden is always a big hit with the kids, so you may want to bring their togs (swimming costumes for international tourists).

A really neat place to spend a few hours on a sunny day. With the added bonus that it is free to explore.

This is an awesome place with so many different, fun and active gardens. Highly recommend for both young and old.

Must visit, kids will love it as much as the adults. Go now while it's still free. Although I completely support the idea of charging a small fee, it's such an amazing well designed, developed series of gardens. So much work has gone in to make this place a wonderful experience. Will go back every chance I get to go to Hamilton.

Fantastic place to come to escape, wander among natures beauty and bounty. The isolated and beautifully crafted areas allow you to pass between worlds and fantastic points of reflection. Recommendation - pick just a few areas and see these to enjoy - seeing it all in one day could become overwhelming and exhausting - but if you are up to the task GO FOR IT ! Wonderful place!!!

Back at the Gardens. Peaceful and serene as always. My son's first trip to the gardens. It was superb. It's a shame the café was closed otherwise a perfect day.

A great place to visit in all different seasons. There's always things that you notice the next time and the gardens are always changing. Looking forward to going back in spring to see the various blooms in the gardens

Great place to drop by if passing by Hamilton. Could spend the whole day here going round all the different gardens. Lots still under construction so will be interesting once it’s all completed, will be enormous!!

Great way to spend the afternoon, with numerous themed gardens to check out, making for a very entertaining and exciting journey. Definitely would recommend the Italian Renaissance garden, Indian Char Bagh Garden and the Surrealist garden. Also free entry!!

Free to access, lovely to walk around at leisure! Plenty of picnic spots.

Such a cool place. Best botanical gardens I've seen in NZ. The enclosed gardens are well worth a look. Have plenty of time to take it all in.

We were there for about two hours. We'll return another time for a day, and even then we'll want to go again. There are fifty-three hectares of wonder, too much to see in such a short time. Today we lingered first in the small but exquisite Japanese Gardens. One is a classic arrangement of rock and pebble. The other is a complete contrast, water and trees. They settle the mind, drawing one into contemplation. Next, the Chinese Garden. This is larger, drawing one through changing vistas and levels. The whole is never visible, you travel through the twisting paths, over bridges, into green cathedrals, past cloud-pruned vegetation. Then, the Surreal Garden. What a trip! Get in and have your sense of proportion challenged, and your sense of humour tickled. You'll come out grinning. We didn't linger long enough in the Katherine Mansfield and Tropical gardens to do them justice, and completely missed the others. No matter. Hamilton Gardens leaves you enthralled and wanting more. There can be no higher praise than that. Go there. Really.

Must to see. I have visited a large number of gardens but this one was far beyond my expectations. While Chinese, Japanese and English gardens are typical, the rest were absolutely incredible. Worth to spend half day to explore the beauty. Free entry with plenty of car parks. Highly recommended.

How cool is this place?! Amazing. A bit of culture, nature and fun. Clean and perfectly easy to “walk around”. The information building is good ... you can buy souvenirs. There is a small waterfall around the lake and also a coffee shop. I loved it and I highly recommend.

Wow. Absolutely stunning! When the weather is good I would highly recommend! Go early as possible to get a good park as it does get busy but overall fantastic photo opportunities and a great thing to do for anyone visiting the area! We were blown away!

Great place to spend a few hours and really, you could spend the best part of a day here. They've made a lot of effort with the gardens, which are amazing. There's also good parking, plenty of space for a picnic and a good cafe.

Free, extremely popular, well located….but…. 1. Many parts of the gardens need some love and maintenance. For example, there is a lot of stagnant water with algae etc. growing on; weeds growing a lot; some hedges not pruned etc. 2. The ‘enclosed gardens’ are generally good but open only from 10-5 pm, even during summer holidays. Last entry is at 4.30 pm, and requires vaccine pass. The highlights for me were the Indian and Italian gardens in the ‘Paradise gardens’ collection.

Great place to visit. Can see various garden designs all in one big place. There are still more new garden designs in construction stage so am looking forward to another visit in the coming months. Highly recommended.

Amazing variety of gardens, well maintained, cafe onsite, and a great place for a day out

Oh wow! This place is amazing. Even 4yr old was happily distracted while we got lost looking for the playground. The themed gardens were the highlight. But even the playground was amazing to walk through. (with a secret garden to explore) We come from the Garden City, and felt the Hamilton Gardens are so much better!

What an absolute gem! Well worth the visit and I’m amazed that it was free! I really enjoyed the themed enclosed gardens, you can’t skip the Italian Renaissance one. Bring your walking shoes for sure.

Hamilton Gardens is a go to for my son and I. Wasn't sure about hygiene in the café yesterday. Cutlery tasted of the dishwasher. 🙄 Gardens are spectacular. Great place to visit.

Mostly foreign nationals visiting which is a deep shame. If you want to enjoy someone's company, child or adult, bring them here for a walk around. It brings peace. Natural beauty nourishes the soul.

These gardens are amazing and so many different cultural one to see as you may notice it is scooter (which You can Hire) and wheelchair friendly. Allow yourself a couple of hours and even take a picnic if you want. just loved it

They are developing new gardens so looking forward to it. The existing ones are great too but will be so much better in Spring/summer.

Theme gardens are awesome. Good for family visit.

Spectacular garden designs. The only let down, as expected, was the modern American layout.... This is an absolute must-do if you are in the area. Allow yourself about an hour and a half to gently walk through each and every garden and take time to take in the beauty.

My favourite garden in New Zealand. There are still some part that still on construction. I don’t think I will get tired of visiting Hamilton Gardens once in every season it just has natural beauty.

Beautiful place with many different areas. Super entertaining to see all the themed gardens. Entrance is free, bathrooms are clean and parking was easy even on a busy day. Would definitely come back and recommend.

What an amazing place. I went with my 10 and 12 year old sons and we were all blown away. They loved the enclosed gardens - so so cool. And the café is lovely too. Can't wait to go back.

Been here a few times. Some nice beautiful rare plants, the only thing is that the paradise section were made be bit too simple(maybe because of the season?) and some plants region were put into wrong place(doesn't really matter though lol). Overall it was a pleasant place to visit when there aren't too many people :)

Absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, many of the flowers, trees etc aren't flowering in Winter, so the gardens were at their full potential. Still a great place to visit despite the season.

Have visited here for several times, still as good as I remembered. Took some pictures of those newly opened theme gardens, amazing! Saw the signage saying there will be more new ones to come in near future. I'm very looking forward to seeing them again. This is one of the must see tourist spots between Auckland and Hamilton.

Wow. Wow. Wow. 😍😍😍 The first time I ever visited this place I couldn't help but gasp. Every inch of this magnificent garden was spectacular. So many different themes with history of each design. Memory lasting scenery in every section. Big open feilds of colors. Ponds of grace and statues with such designs. A flawless creation I believe. I know big words...but in my experience I have throughly enjoyed my many of visits. So have many family members. I have honestly thought of many wedding scenarios. But to be honest who wouldn't 😊

Second time i go there, i am surprised of how well mantained this gardens are, no rubbish, everything clean and tidy, and so many gardens to visit, definitely a must visit, even if it's just a stop by while going from or to other places!

Free entry, massive park. Lots of different themed gardens! Can spend half a day here. 100% recommend

Visited Rose garden, very beautiful with large range of roses in bloom. This is a definite visit in mid spring when so many beautiful colours are bursting out! Well worth a visit for a stroll or picnic. Parking and public toilets plus an excellent play ground close by. Grass is softer and paths not the best wheelchair accessible situation, something to keep in mind ;)

This beautiful garden is super clean and fresh. I have a lot of fun, walk around all areas in silence alone and just allow birds to sing their songs as a background. So peaceful and wonderful. I fall in love and happy to get lost in this wonderful garden❤️

This visit was an absolute delight and the gardens at their very best - new gardens are totally amazing and a functioning steam punk air blimp - that would look great in the Dr Grordbort universe - WOW! We were gob smacked at the beauty of the gardens and unique displays. Hamilton turned on the weather to boot. These gardens should be on the 'to do' list for all - visitors and locals and do your city proud. Loved it 100! - triple AAA+++ rating.

Beautiful Gardens to enjoy with the family. You will need at least 2hours to visit it. Unfortunately dogs not allowed. Otherwise I would give 5 stars

Loved it 😍. It's one of the best themed botanical gardens I have visited. I visited with my parents and they loved it. It was a relaxing and an amazing experience. It's got many cultural gardens, italian gardens, indian gardens, it's got a rose garden, tulip garden, indoor flower and plant garden, succulent garden. It's a wonderful place to visit with your family and with friends. Toilet facilities available. You can have a picnic and has so many huge lovely trees and picnic areas. Ample parking available. It's also free to visit. There are souvenir stores and you can purchase something for memory. I recommend you visit if you are around hamilton.

Great wee “garden” for a day out, pity 95% of the plants are artificial. Great to advertise yourself as a garden and all but to come all the way from Auckland expecting to see real plants and encounter a cleverly disguised patch of plastic was a bit of a shock. Not to mention the impact on the environment this polymer paradise has caused. Good ice cream though and also I shan’t forget the “duck encounter” in which I paid a couple dollars to swim with a group of ducks in the turtle pond, great scenes.

A well maintained facility with gorgeous gardens and lots of variety. Great space to have a picnic and spend the day. Highly recommend if staying in Hamilton

The Hamilton Gardens are a place that you have to visit while in Hamilton. The gardens are well maintained and almost made you feel as if you were in another city or country. It’s good to have information about gardens under construction and what has newly been opened. Excellent day out, will be back.

Showed a friend around Hamilton and I think this was the only thing he was very impressed with; the gardens. The areas are split up into segments with their own themes. The Japanese garden of contemplation was my favourite, I wish I had a rake to play with the sand but I don't think that's allowed. They also had a kinky pine tree or something. I recommend reading the signs they tell a very interesting story every where you go. Highly recommend it and please resist from pushing the instagram.

What an awesome place to visit and forget about the world for a while. Great for kids to explore. Easily can spend 3+ hours here if it's your first time.

Really beautiful and well kept. The Italian garden was my favorite. Some areas where you'd expect something fanciful and bright was kind if a let down, the Japanese gardenespecially, since I've been to an actual one its doesn't compare, the surreal garden could use a little something extra too (but by no means bad!). Keeping in mind it could also be different the time of year you visit. I definitely want to go back in spring.

Stunning experience and gardens. Be prepared to spend the whole day there. There's also a pretty awesome cafe to get you through the day.

What an amazing place to go:) Perfect to walk and take a look at all the beautiful gardens including the sustainability concept garden. There are some hens as well in the sustainability garden where children can get interested in. Beautiful fruit and vegetable garden. Hamilton garden has added new sections over time and a new bike track is also being constructed between Hamilton and Cambridge - Te Awa River ride! The cafe in the garden is fantastic with freshly made food. Awesome!

As a plantaholic, this place is the perfect escape for an hour or three to wander through the gardens and admire the plants and birdlife, especially when it's not too crowded and no kids screaming their heads off. A photographer's paradise too. Also great for families, picnics, exercising, etc. Plenty of interest, especially now there are a few more new gardens to see. Cafe open longer for summer hours so that's great. Free entry, but donations welcome and worth every penny. Downsides: the way the newer gardens are currently set up, you have to go through one garden to get to the next one and so on which takes a lot of time. Would be nice to have alternative entrances to bypass this, if you don't have a lot of time and/or just want to see a particular garden. Only saw toilets up around the main area near the Pavilion and No. 1 carpark, so not so user friendly if you're at the far end of the gardens. Hopefully there are some further out or maybe they'll build some into the gardens still under construction. Occasionally somes gardens are closed because of weddings, events etc, so a bit frustrating at the time, but a good excuse to make another visit. Definitely recommend any time of the year, but mid Spring is stunning as everything looks fresh and inviting with all the new plant growth and birdsong.

Around the Corner we didn't expect such a lovely well looked after flower paradise. Amazing flowers, a lot of different themes. All together just Brilliant 😍

Wow! We knew this place was going to be gorgeous but it really was amazing. Each themed garden was so fun to walk through the entrance to be revealed. A definite unique NZ experience. The kids playground was fun and whimsical too.

A great place to visit, gar more interesting than I had expected as their enclosed gardens are full of architecture and landscaping which makes it far more interesting to me than just a bunch of well organized plants.

We didn't really have a chance to wander through the beautiful grounds, plan to go back soon for a more leisurely visit. Had lunch at the cafe which was very nice, fabulous & tranquil setting. Looking forward to our next visit.

Beautiful gardens, very creative, felt like I was overseas!! Camellia gardens are very serene and we sat there for a while taking it all in, enclosed gardens can be quite busy!

A Well Managed and Groomed area with something for everyone Young and Old a few new gardens add to the attraction and extra new ones in the process of being developed .. All in All a nice day out for Family and Friends , or/and Young and Old Loves

I’ve been several times, and always come back. The gardens are very pretty and well maintained. Very enjoyable and lovely place to visit with friends and family. There are some gardens that are under development. I look forward to coming back to see those gardens

Definitely worth a visit on a glorious summer day, or any day. We didn't stay long, but the 2 hours spent wandering around we're amazing and inspirational. Lots of ideas for the vege garden when I get home.

Pretty amazing place ♡ Friendly staff and very nice Chai latte. Some parts not so great for pram but mostly good. Take your time do it over a complete day or over a few days so much to see

A fabulous garden suitable for all ages. They have 2 mobility scooters for those less mobile enabling older folks etc to see as much as possible.

Very beautiful place, a fun place to visit with family. There are many places within one park that people can visit, like garden of india, china, english, italy n so on. The list is so big and every inch is detailed so well that you are going to be amazed. One thing to note... a full day is needed if you want to see all park. Loved it.

My first time going to the Gardens and won't be the last. Have been wanting to go there for years and wasn't disappointed. Even though I just parked and went to the Pavillion for the Bonsai show I was really impressed.

These gardens are so amazing. One of the best attractions of Hamilton. Would definitely recommend and runs definitely go again.

Hamilton Gardens had been one of my favourite places in the country since I first went about 15 years ago. I'm very grateful for all the planning, hard work, and love that goes into this wonderful place of creation for all to enjoy. Thank you

I have only recently heard about how great these gardens are and it shouldn't be such a well kept secret! The enclosed gardens are exceptional and more are coming. We couldn't find two of the new ones. The signage is very diagrammatic but too vague and not helpful. I guess we should have bought a $2 map. It is a really big place and was a highlight of our trip. I am not sure if the cafe is independently owned but the food choice was excellent, the macaroni cheese was divine and the service very good. It seats a lot of people and is right beside a lake. Very pretty.

Great botanical gardens with themed sections. Really love it even now in winter. Free entrance. Enjoyable place for whole family. They are still enlarging the gardens with future expansions. Most notable and beautiful sections for me were Indian, Italian, Maori, English fantasy (Alice in Wonderland). They are hosting events during the year so make sure to check the calendar.

Amazing gardens and free entry. This is a good place to stop on a road trip or if you want to see somwhere new with the kids.

What a magical place! I'm not a flower person at all.. roses, sunflowers, tulips? thats my knowledge exhausted. Yet this place is amazing! Every garden has a theme; Italian, Japanese, fantasy etc doing it with the family is so much fun. There's also now a playground, which was great for the kids as well. However did make me question my relationship with the wife.. On the third visit she suggested skipping the theme gardens, since "we seen them already, nothings changed." No way José, every garden must be seen again, so I can decide if my favorite theme (Japanese garden - I know controversial) is still my top one or will italian gardens make a comeback? 5/5 - would defend the hamilton gardens again

Get there early and enjoy exceptional grounds.....this is really such an asset for Hamilton, both the enclosed gardens and the larger park. Hats of to the Council and volunteers who suport this great facility. Long term benefit for the community.

No words. It's beautiful, calm, quite and eco-friendly. There's lake, river and gardens for the fee of true nature. You can spent time with kids, parents, friends, just anyone. Just go and feel it. Lots of areas to see and enjoy. Spent some beautiful moments with your loved ones.

What a treat to spend the day wandering around the Hamton Botanical Gardens. There is no cost to enter, but a donation is encouraged. All the mandated safety measures are applied. Masks required and Covid Vacine Certificate is required to enter the covered areas.

I just wish I'd had more time to see all of it! I only had time to visit the enclosed gardens area, though having said that, that area was still very large & I would imagine it is the highlight of the entire gardens. Each enclosed garden has a different theme or is representative of a particular country or region. And there is going to be more to come with another three enclosed gardens being added in the near future. My two favourites were the Italian Renaissance Garden & the Indian Char Bagh Garden, but also special mention to the Tudor Garden. I also would liked to have seen the Kitchen Garden when it was at it's best - it was a bit empty when I saw it, but that was probably to be expected for the time of year. Make sure you allow plenty of time if you want to see everything. The enclosed gardens are all grouped together & you can just move straight from one into another which works very well. But there are also other large areas of parklands with Rose Gardens & Camellia Gardens & all sorts of other areas which I did not have time for. Now there is lot of parking space for each sections. Thinking to go once there and visit some more things from there.

Beautiful. Like being in another world. Huge gardens. Suggest taking a few hours out of your day to visit here. So many different gardens inspired by different places and points of time. Easy to get lost in wonderment. Take your time to stop and smell the flowers. Literally.

Have a day with the family in December 2019, couldn't forget the green grapes hanging on the gazebo. Keeps on improving, more area to view in. Best to come in the place early in the morning (cool breeze). A great place to spend the day with family.

This is a really wonderful place to visit with family and or friends, especially during spring and summer (there are less flowers in late winter 2019 when we last visited). There is no fee to enter, however, it is encouraged for visitors to donate; and you should! It is so worth it! You will have a glimpse of various types (and other famous designs) of gardens all over the world - as well as different plants and colorful flowers. It is perfect for money shots for your social media accounts (or photography collection) and a good place to relax and take in the wonders of nature with your loved ones as you can also have picnic in some areas. There are also ongoing works on additional gardens (medieval, Egyptian, baroque themes, etc.) for 2020 so it’s something to look forward to.

Lovely place with multiple gardens arranged amd designed to themes such as countries (India, Italy, English, Chinese, Japanese etc), contemporary, tropical and vegetable gardens! They added new gardens in another wing and they were all themed, well maintained and beautiful. Also, free for public visits! (Donations are fine btw)

Beautiful place. Well worth the visit! We had a stroller and accessibility is great, but you have to pay attention to the signage as there is often a different entrance to the gardens.

Hamilton gardens is always a wonderful place to go , forever changing and always free. With great events coming up with the summer months just around the corner. An there are Turtles in Turtle 🐢 Lake, real live ones, if you're lucky you will see them when walking over the bridge by the waterfall.

One of the best gardens I’ve visited. These combinations of conceptual gardens are uniquely different to each other and carries out their own theme and story. There is a café in the garden which was fantastic. It is a relaxing place and you will have plenty of photo opportunities. If you want to see more photos catch me @volarphotography

This was beautiful! We enjoyed the garden i think you will need like a couple days to truly see it all. It was a very popular place. There was loads of visitors there. Plenty of resting spots through out the gardens. We also enjoyed the waikato river boat tour which we enjoyed with our young baby. It was very informative and affordable. The captain and his crew were so lovely. They have a lovely cafe/bar on board. We enjoyed a cheese platter with crackers and all. It was a very beautiful location and i recommend this completely. Great for all ages.

An outstanding place to visit. Lots of different themed gardens where you can spot many different flowers, trees and plants. Provided lots of ideas for our garden at home--sustainability garden was super. And lots of fun photo opportunities too!

Wow what a lovely place to spend time. There are so many different gardens that take you through a journey back in time and around the world. It's way better than I expected. Hamilton Gardens is well-worth a visit. We ran out of time which means we will be back again!

Wow!! What an incredible experience and such a great effort by people volunteering. It is surreal walking around and makes you feel like you are in a different country in each part of the themed gardens. Would absolutely recommend this to everyone.

They seem to have new things here every once in awhile, always good to come pay a visit at least once a year with some friends. It's a nice stroll, and you get to enjoy all these beautiful scenery. We went here during spring and it's beautiful because all the flowers are blooming and the grass is extra green. There are so many types of gardens here to explore, it'll take your roughly 2 hours or more to see all of them.

Awesome place! Shame some gardens can't open due to COVID restrictions but a definite recommend when you're in Hamilton.

A good place for the whole family, regardless if you just want to take a short stroll or wander around and enjoy the scenery. The place could easily take at least a couple of hours to cover pretty much all of the themed gardens. The set-up of the gardens might look confusing but there are signage everywhere, also maps are provided. I was here during winter and right after some showers so the place lacks in colour but come spring or autumn this place would be lovely.

It’s one of the best places to be at this time of the year where you can feel so energetic and wonderful by the glorious and beautiful flowers and other plants that are growing in such a lovely way.

Amazing place with fantastic gardens. Every garden has been cared for and crafted with very precise actions. Only disappointment were the visitors, local and foreign. Not controlling their kids and letting them run through the gardens or splash water out of the water features. Maybe the Gardens could use a security team to limit these occurrences or something.

The gardens can entertain you for ages. There is heaps to do and see. The ground are well maintained and pretty. A lot of space to sit or lounge around.

Excellent day out. The enclosed gardens each have a special feel about them. Feel like you are walking around the world. They are maintained beautifully and designed to give you a wow factor. Some works underway on new gardens and i will especially be excited to visit the fantasy garden’s. Some open spaces aswell for a get together and the river is visible as you walk around.

As always try get there early or during the week to miss the crowds. Take a book or listen to music in the peaceful bliss gardens. Bring a picnic or use the onsite cafe.

Beautiful gardens from different theme and time. It’s winter and the gardens looked amazing. We couldn’t imagine how it amazing it is during spring. Good to spend a couple of hours here. Absolutely free of charge.

You have to visit Hamilton Gardens! Even on a rainy day we had such a great time. As world travelers, it was wonderful to be able to go from one part of the world to another in such close proximity. Each garden area is beautifully crafted - we saw people working all over. Our favorites were the Indian pavilion and the Chinese garden (though others were great as well). The gardens are still expanding. If we come to New Zealand again, we will surely visit again. Oh, and please remember to leave a donation for whatever you can afford to support them.

Absolutely beautiful gardens! Free entry but was so good we would have gladly paid. Many themed gardens from around the world and also fictional themed gardens (think Alice in Wonderland style). A lot of still still to be opened when we went in June 2018, but will be even more amazing when the rest open.

What a beautiful place - Kindly recommended by our local AirBnb hosts. Excellent forethought to turn what was an area of waste into one of such beauty with gardens from all cultures and walks of life. From Chinese contemplation to traditional English there is something for everyone. The cafe and kids play area add to an excellent place to enjoy an afternoon. Guided tours seemed popular but certainly not essential.

Wonderful selection of gardens and themes from, China, Japan, India, Italy and many more. We really enjoyed exploring the different themes and plantation from different countries. Great place to simply go and walk around, you could easily spend couple of hours exploring the gardens. Take your time and enjoy your walk and admire the great scenes.

Some of the most beautiful gardens I have seen.. very well maintained. Kudos to the management for building such a beautiful place. I just wished the ponds and lakes were cleaned up a bit.. you could use a filter or even a net.. it would really improve the experience..

Great place for family day out with very interesting gardens. Also a walk around a lake as well as toilet facilities and cafe food restaurant which looks out across the lake. Have many place to sit and enjoy your lunch or just take a rest/break as you explore the multiple gardens available for you to enjoy. Not all gardens can be enjoyed by all as there are no ramps/accessible places for push chairs and wheelchairs. Overall a good place for you and the family.

It's been a couple of years since we were last at the gardens so more new gardens have opened up. It's always so relaxing walking around the gardens. Expect to spend a couple of hours here if you want to see everything.

The gardens were absolutely stunning! My favourite by far was the Italian Renaissance Garden, it was the most beautiful and perfect garden I have ever seen. And the fountain in the centre was incredible. For a free activity I'd highly recommend going to spend the day looking at the massive variety of gardens all with their own different theme. Also, the staff on site were very friendly and helpful directing us around the gardens.

A wide range of gardens based on different themes. It is a very beautiful and peaceful environment. Free entry and welcomes donations. They are currently expanding one of the gardens. Perfect for a day trip!

Probably the best attraction in Hamilton and defiantly the best gardens in New Zealand and it's free! They are constantly making new gardens with different themes so it is always exciting to visit again and again. Personally, I loved the gardens based on different countries. They do it so well and keep the gardens immaculate! Well worth a visit.

Spectacular gardens, especially the international enclosed gardens which can make you feel as if you are in an entirely different country. Absolutely worth a stop, even if you only have an hour or so to spare, as I did. Will definitely be back to explore more of this jewel on the banks of the Waikato River.

A must visit place of Hamilton. Especially when the season or weather is good. The garden is so spectacular compare to other botanic gardens. If there is one reason why you should visit Hamilton, then this is it! The Hamilton Gardens is an incredible sight to behold! It's free, fun, spectacular, and enchanting - all rolled into one. Young and old alike will appreciate the beauty of these gardens; the themed gardens are especially amazing! I spent several hours here as the sun was setting, but still didn't even manage to capture half the beauty, let alone see all of the gardens. Perfect for birthdays, weddings, Instagram-ing, spending time with family, or just somewhere peaceful to hangout. My favourite garden is the newly opened Katherine Mansfield one, closely followed by the Italian one. My photos don't do the Hamilton Gardens justice - definitely visit it yourself to behold the majesty or it all!

Spent a lovely afternoon walking my dog through the rhodo/azalea gardens, chatted to staff, had a lovely tasty lunch and super Chai latte at the Café then put dog in car and strolled through the inner gardens. So peaceful with loads of seasonal interest and great displays. The Katherine Mansfield gardens look particularly lovely, the Hollyhocks, the Rugosa roses, just wonderful while sniffing the perfumed air (alive with bees enjoying the sun too) !

Almost perfect but... No any information for each plants.... and also the nz native garden and the Maori culture building no any information and tales!!! :( I can see the information just only at the kitchen and herb garden. They will have new garden in next year 2020... This place anyways is never missed!

A beautiful garden involves lots of planning and design. The planning is still going on, looking forward to all those new areas. We are lucky to visit at the best time of the year, spring season with all the flower smiling.

Really hot day heaps of people car park was full but everyone parked on the grass in designated areas over all nice place to visit.

This place is outstanding! If you can go mid week then less people... however even at busy time still absorbs a lot of people. Take a picnic. Food purchased on site is excellent but expensive.

By far the best gardens I've seen in New Zealand. It's worth spending some time in the enclosed gardens. The italian garden is fairly accurate, so i guess the others are too. The Japanese and chinese are common in other NZ gardens, but the Parapara and indian gardens were a pleasant discovery.

If you’re passing by Hamilton, definitely spend a couple of hours here. That’s what I did yesterday. It’s winter so we didn’t see too many flowers but gardens were gorgeous! The cafe inside had quite large selection of gluten free food at reasonable prices.

Beautifully maintained with lots of individually themed mini gardens that flow from one to another. Very clever. Varied enough for all the family.

Very beautiful place. Very nice and clean. They have a kids play area and the trials branch off so you can definitely see more of the beautiful area and the pond. I went with friends and we talked about life since we havent seen each other and this is a great area to do such. Go with friends or kids to have a beautiful start of your day I would say.

Amazing place for a picnic or a stroll. The area is huge and there are numerous different styles of gardens (e.g. Japanese, Chinese, Renaissance, etc.). There was some construction work going on in some of the gardens and they were closed, but since the place is so big, the remaining gardens were enough to keep me occupied for a few hours.

The Hamilton Gardens are a calm and beautiful place with lots of different garden settings, flowers and natural creations. It’s definitely worth walking through!

Most of the park is unremarkable but the themed gardens are what make this place amazing. Each of the themed gardens is unique and is created to emulate the gardening style from different regions and time-frames. Schedule at least two hours to explore and know that no garden you visit again will compare. Unfortunately the city of Hamilton doesn't have much else to offer travellers and I can't say the gardens are solely worth going to Hamilton for.

I decided to visit the gardens because it was on my way to Auckland airport from Waitomo I and had some time to kill. So glad I did it and only wish I had more time to visit. The gardens are very well kept, very relaxing. I visited mainly the Enclosed Gardens and was really interesting to visit so many different styles of gardens. Recommend the visit and go with time to make the most of it.

Must go if you're in the area. The best would be to do a nice picnic and spend 2-3 hours exploring different parts. There's a lot to see there. If you are short on time, you can visit and checkout main lawn and the pond. The parking is plenty and free and entrance is free too.

I've been there a few times, the gardens are beautiful. I love the themed ones cant wait till the new developments are complete. Takes a long time to complete the whole gardens but if you have the time and in the right season it's worth it.

Such amazing free attraction. They are building it bigger. We have driven down from Auckland a few times just for the day to come and enjoy these gardens. Allow 2 hours or more to see everything.

Very nice place to spend a few hours in. It's for free, but I recommend leave at least a lil donation. It's very nice, you can visit Europe, Japan, Maori Garden there and much more... I really loved the Lewis Carroll reference.

The gardens looked beautiful! Most of the plants looked healthy but I did notice some flowers that looked a bit chewed up. In the Japanese Garden there were ducks and welcome swallows that looked happy there. We also went to the cafe. The food was really good! Their smoothies were delicious.

This place is amazing for all ages, very well twnded, a lot of of different ethnic gardens but some were closed for maintenance allowing gardeners to do it safley. Good for families as there's plenty of space to picnic or dine in at the cafe. Plenty of parking but it fills up fast!

Hamilton gardens are one of the best gardens in the world. Mostly forms of the gardens are covered in this. I visited this during the winter and it was raining as well. Summer is said to be best time to visit there. It may be more beautiful during that time.

Grown up in Hamilton and the gardens are always a beautiful place to go connect with nature or friends/family. We went in the rain today and it was actually more beautiful than usual! Good upkeep of toilets and well maintained gardens. Just love this place.

Always a must do on my road trip.... Is a stop at the Hamilton Gardens. Such a beautiful place all year round, exploring all the different garden sections, while getting lost, is all part of the fun. Also recommended taking the second parking entrance and walking through the rose gardens, while entertaining the kids at the playground. A must do in Hamilton. PS: Finish (or start) you trip with a coffee or ice cream at the Cafe.

We absolutely 💯 love the gardens! They were out in full bloom today which made them so beautiful. A map is available for $2 at the information shop and a colourfull children's sheet (free) to fill in as you go around...it is a great way to look at everything and learn with the children.

These lovely gardens require several visits to really enjoy. Take a cruise on the river and have lunch while you meander the Waikato River.

Beautiful all year round..but go for autumn colours, spring blossoms and rhododendrons, rose time, tulip time and go to see the individual themed gardens. The gift shop is full of lovely things that you can support the gardens by buying and the cafe is very good too

Absolutely loved strolling around Hamilton Gardens...to us its the best thing about Hamilton! Loads of parking & easy stroll with minimal hills,big no hills. Beautiful lily lake & that rose garden was immaculate. Smelt devine! So picturesque!

An absolutely gorgeous set of gardens. You need at least two or more hours to do it justice - we spent an hour and a half wandering around before the kids became hungry and we then had to sprint through the culinary and cosmetic gardens. If we're ever in Hamilton again or even driving through, we would definitely return.

Very picturesque and peaceful gardens. Loved the enclosed gardens. Cater for everyone's tastes. Roger's Rose's was a large open area and look forward to visiting again in spring when things are in full bloom. A credit to Hamilton. I would say there will have been a wedding or 2 there. Suggest taking a picnic lunch, pack up the kids, send them to the playground, kick back and relax. We have older boys and the fantasy gardens would be a piece of them.....

Really interesting formal gardens in a number of different themes. Wheelchairs and carts available to borrow (for a small charge) and you can book them in advance. Great gardens and location. Lots of parking.

A lovely spot for anyone to explore. Gardens vary across different themes, across different time spans and locations. Paths are mostly concrete and would be accessible for a pram, but more difficult to access some areas with a wheelchair.

Must visit place, worth your time and if you haven’t been here your missing a lot. Amazing place to spend 4-5 hours with kids, family and friends. Wont regret as you have more than 10 gardens to see and mesmerise. Will love to visit again, need to plan it well in advance.

Its so convenient as you drive into Hamilton. The gardens cater for every type of gardener and lover of gorgeous colourful flowers, trees and shrubs. The cafe has a good selection of food to stay longer at the gardens.

I never tought that this garden was so beautiful. There are many types of garden with different themes, I finish one day here because all my kids was so excited to come here. Other activities was cancel due to this visit. Thank you Hamilton Garden because preserve this park. ☺️☺️☺️

Best part of Hamilton. Verdant. Beautiful in the summer, unique themed gardens, landscaped grounds, free entry (as of Sept 2019), continuously developing (new gardens in 2020, 2021).

Located in Hamilton city. Easy access and plenty of parking. A lot of green grass areas for picnics. A lot of theme gardens and. Good and clean facilities, cafe's. Plenty of benches to sit on. There are a some improvement on theme gardens so I couldn't visit everywhere. I will definitely re visit again. Dogs are allowed except cemetery amd enclosed areas.

This place was amazing. They have a whole collection of character gardens that you can explore which are created after a certain theme. Our favorites were the Indian one and the Japanese contemplation garden. But they're all awesome. And they're adding more so we'll be back in a year or so. Also they have a little $5 paywave donation thingy which was easy to use. Highly recommend people use it if they like it cause it is so worth it. Cannot believe the land used to be a dump.

I wish 'Hamilton Gardens' would have directions with pictures as well as more gardens but it's still really large land and it's very adventurous. I visit every year it's really creative and cultural to all cultures I recommend this place to others. Also I didn't take many pictures sorry for any inconveniences in this Review. ✓

The gardens are huge! I like the Paradise garden collection the most, the Fantasy gardens have many of them under construction...and that lawn and the lake are just wonderful!

Such a beautiful place to not only visit but also to take beautiful pictures! Having varieties of gardens with "themes" is so great! Also having no charge to see and wander around is great. The only toilets are at the main entrance of the gardens so make sure you go first before getting lost in different gardens!

This is a large park, but the main attraction is an area they call the Enclosed Gardens, sections containing themed gardens. There are 3 sections--The Paradise Collection, the Productive Collection, and the Fantasy Collection--each with several gardens. Each garden has a theme and contains plants, water features, and structures to make it seem as though you've traveled back in time to a place that would have such a garden. For example, the Italian Renaissance Garden is filled with fountains, pools, statues and even an Italian Villa. The Japanese Garden has a path that winds around a large pond surrounded by Japanese maple trees (gorgeous in the fall), bridges, stone features, a tea house and a pagoda. The Modernist Garden feels like visiting a Los Angeles celebrity home in the 1950's. For the moment, the Paradise Collection has the most gardens, but the Fantasy collection is adding new gardens. In all, we loved the enclosed gardens at the Hamilton Gardens. My only complaint was that two of the gardens were closed for maintenance, one garden simply getting a touch-up on a bridge's paint. Some of us come from very far away to see these gardens, and it would be nice if they could open at least part of a garden that's getting work done, or do all this sort of work on days this area is closed.

The whole place is a gem, great walks, views a real credit to the council and local groups. Always lots going on there at different times of the year, a highly reccomend place to visit.

These gardens are absolutely beautiful. They are not just flower gardens but real works of art. Young and old can enjoy. It is completely free. There is a donation box at the entry if you would like to donate.

Hamilton Gardens is our go to place for a quick day trip, its magnificent feature gardens are divine and we take a special trip to see the rose gardens in bloom. Highly recommend.

Well maintained and always a great experience. Certainly a lot busier than a few years back but it is a big attraction for Hamilton now. Would recommend for an easy activity on the weekend and it's free! Although you can donate which is $5, paywave payment as well just at the entrance.

It's a lovely place to be. Lots of spaces to sit down and hang out for some quiet time with beautiful sceneries of plants, flowers and trees. Great for children to know about plants or about botany.

This place is fantastic! It was just so much more than I was expecting. It is expansive, exceptionally well done, and free! You would be doing yourself a disservice not to stop by for a couple hours if you are nearby. Just go for a bit and thank me later.

Different playgrounds for different age groups, beautiful gardens to look at, loving scenery to look at while you are making your way around Lake Rotoroa. Always a highlight to visit. The gardens changes noticeably as the seasons changes, so there is always variety. The surrealistic garden is our absolute favorite.

Wow - I mean proper jaw dropping wow. This is an amazing garden. In fact it's so much more than a garden, it's a cultural experience transporter and an art gallery too. I'd love to be able to visit every month to see how it changes with the seasons. Well done Hamilton for making this available to everyone!!!

The Hamilton Gardens lives up to its title of world garden of the year 2014. This place is absolutely huge. There are a multitude of themed gardens ranging from tropical, Maori, Chinese and Italian renaissance to name a few with each one being meticulously cared for and kept. Outside of the themed gardens you will find walks through the massive rose gardens and native forest, a botanical greenhouse filled with orchids and other tropical flowering plants and of course the beautiful large lake with waterfall. With toilets and a cafe onsite as well as a generous playground for the kids and ample lawns for a picnic, the Hamilton Gardens make the perfect spot for a full day out. I’ve visited throughout the year but springtime is my favourite because of all the new growth and blossoming flowers.

It is a very beautiful place to go to. We have been there 3 times within the last 4 months and there are still places we haven't visited yet! Very educational, or just recreational if you choose. WELL worth your time.

It's an amazing place to come with your family or lone. It has a cafe by the lake, beautiful gardens built on lands which were once a dumping ground for the city's waste. Ample parking space!

Absolutely amazing and beautiful place to hangout with family and friends. The Paradise and Fantasy Garden collections are the best place to visit. My favorite was, Indian, Italian and Japaneses gardens. They also have information center, Lake side Cafe and single and double bikes for rent to enjoy the ride along the big garden. Must place to visit if your visiting Hamilton or passing through it.

For garden lovers this is a place for you. It offers variety of flowers grouped and arranged accoring to its garden types. Should you want to see tulips, the best time to visit is between mid september and early of october.

The Hamilton Gardens is a magical place, fantastical museum style gardens with differing eloquent gardens of different eras and cultures from an Indian Char Bagh Garden to an American Modernist Garden or an Italian Renaissance Garden. A maze of beauty and surprise around each corner. I felt like it was a magical kingdom of fairytale dreams. Definitely a hidden gem of Hamilton.

A really beautiful and tranquil location. Hamilton Gardens was voted the international garden of the year in 2014, and rightly so. There are so many unique garden styles, from Japanese gardens all the way to medieval styled gardens. There are also a few cafe’s here if you want to grab a quick bite. If you are having a stay in Hamilton or just passing by, I would highly recommend visiting.

A wonderful place to visit, huge place and very well organised and expansion still going on. Gardens of different countries makes it more attractive place. Huge area and lakeside view makes it an idea and romantic place. Huge parking space and ease of access.

Lovely garden right beside the Waikato river. They have different region themed gardens and worth the visit. On a hot summer day it is the best place to cool down, right in the Waikato river.

It is the most famous place of interest in Waikato Region. Located at south part of Hamilton near the river, this botanic garden contains one area of enclosed gardens and many other themed gardens around, and amazingly, it was transferred from city rubbish dump in 1960s to the delicately designed award-winning garden. Arrived in the late afternoon, we just visit the enclosed gardens, which also been subdivided into three collections in which several specialised small gardens demonstrate variety of themes. The Productive Garden Collection represents different aspects of life style and household plants, while the Fantasy Garden Collection contains fantasy stories and spiritual concept of life and earth reflected in garden designs. The Paradise Garden Collection is the highlight, that demonstrates some of the most significant garden design styles of both the East (Chinese, Japanese and Indian) and West (Italian, English and American) world.

The Hamilton Gardens are stunning. I have driven past them so many times and never stopped in. I'm not going to post photos of the actual gardens because they need to be experienced. It seems at every turn there is a new hidden adventure. The gardens are immaculate and a credit to the gardeners who care for them. An experience both young and not so young would enjoy. Throughly recommend stopping in and taking a wander.

Good freebie! They have more new areas to be developed... worth to get a $2 map so that you can get around easier. We did not go to all gardens but it could take up to 3 hours

I was just about to pass from Hamilton on the way to Auckland from Rotorua when my wife suddenly searched on Google regarding worthy places to visit in Hamilton and I guess this place topped the list. And trust me you wont be disappointed. The reviews said that it will take an hour or so to visit the whole place. But trust me even after 2 hrs we cudnt finish the whole garden. Its that engaging and intriguing !! There is one separate section of enclosed gardens within which there are many types of gardens like the Indian Char Bagh, Chinese Scholar Garden, Japanese Garden, Italian Garden, English Garden, Kitchen Garden, Tropical Garden, etc. Each one is quite unique in its set up. But the most interesting ones I found were the Indian Char Bagh and the Italian Garden. Even the Kitchen Garden I found it to be interesting. I also found people to be arriving there with their picnic setup so I assume that the other section of the garden would be more casual garden where people can go and chillax. Since I was getting late to reach Auckland we decided to skip that side of the garden. Hamilton Gardens is a highly recommended place to visit if haven't been there e before !!

About 2 hours drive from auckland. Hamilton garden is a must see place as it takes you to different garden concepts, landscapes and backyards of the world - all in one place. What used to be a landfill now boasts off a sanctuary for plants and flowers.

We always enjoy a walk at Hamilton Gardens. There's so many different gardens to choose from. This time I took the dogs who enjoyed socialing & swimming with other dogs down by the river. 💚

Having lived in Hamilton for a long time, this was our regular weekend family time place, we moved away and had our first visit in 3 years, and we were not disappointed, fully recommend this as a must see, when in Hamilton

It's picturesque on a sunny day. There's a lot of exhibits to look at, so I'd recommend spending a day looking at everything. The gardens are immaculately manicured, it's built beside the Waikato River and you can see this in a few of the exhibit verandah.

Now this gem of a place had many little surprises. My morning walk along the Waikato River, ended up to be an enjoyable surprise and to hear one of my favourite birds the Tui in full vocal musical sounds.

Great walks around serene, man made lakes. Plenty of ducks plus a couple of turtles seen in the lake on occasion

Beautiful place to stop on our way to Rotorua from Auckland. Lovely gardens, okay food from the cafe, and a cool kids playground. Glad we found out about it, as most tourist sites we visited about the area didn't mention it.

Public and free garden. Enormous, beautiful. A lot of places to relax and walk. Enclosed gardens are amazing. Absolutely recommended.

Free entry!!!!! They are doing quite a bit of remodeling and things were shut down for maintenance when we went but even with all that we had a great time ambling about taking in the sights.

What a eonderfull place to visit! Firstly it is a free garden ( donations are welcome though don't forget to give a little) . I recommend getting the map at the counter for 2 dollars, it feels a bit like a labyrinth inside. The inner gardens are beautifull and themed, they are situated right at the edge of the river which makes for beautifull photos. It is a peaceful place you can visit if you are wondering what to do in hamilton. Definitely worth the while. Thumbs up to the staff that maintains these gardens they are absolutely breathtaking. Perfect for a family outing too!

It's only my second time here and I didn't get to have a good look around this time either but what I saw was wonderful and I would recommend it for a space to: Let the kids run wild. Quiet and reflective wandering. Escaping from the daily. Enjoying some fantastic gardens. Giggle and coo over some cute stuff. Find your inner child and let them out to play.

A scenic drive from Auckland to Hamilton Garden's-Tulip festival. Green meadows is a big treat for eyes. Worth to spend a day. Floating population on weekends. Photo lovers can enjoy their best shots during morning hours.

Pretty average. And for a tourist attraction, they're not very good at communicating with the public about private events. Drive for an hour to Hamilton to visit the gardens and they were closed for some event they didn't post about on their website.

"what to see in New Zealand?" Then my answer would be, "The Hamilton Gardens." The Hamilton Gardens consist of over 20 individual garden areas. (More and more are added over the years.) So you can stroll through country-specific gardens or take a look at the extensive vegetable, herb and rose gardens. There is also a Maori garden and several green meadows with a large lake and a small waterfall. If the weather is fine, you can spend hours at Hamilton Gardens. And you can visit the garden as often as you like, as admission is free. Damn right it's free!!! Hamilton doesn't appear on everyone's note when you think of a tour of New Zealand. But I was positively surprised and can only recommend the trip there.

There are number of Gardens in side it like Indian char bagh, Italian , Japanese, Chinese , English flower and modernist. While your visit you will also see cultivar collection and fantasy collection. This place can be hired as venue for events details are available on their website. If you are lucky you will encounter a marriages ceremony there. They soon opening new section in this park.

We took our teenaged children and had a great time. We loved all the different themed gardens. We'll be back in a few months time to see the seasonal changes.

It's a must visit in Hamilton. There is a big parking place. There are places for children to play. There is a cafe besides lake. The cafe is quite nice. There are beautiful gardens. The theme parks for India, China, Japan, England etc. are really good ones. One can easily spend half a day in the park. Worth a visit.

These are beautiful gardens, with summer in force the flowers are in full bloom. On weekends there are special events that are a plus. As well as the opening of the new kids playground.

Hamilton Gardens is a unique concept of putting garden themes from various Nations/ heritages at one place. Secondly there is no entry fee. Only generous donations are expected from the visitors/ garden lovers.

One of the most amazing things I have ever seen in my life. A pity we didn't have the whole day to explore it all in its entirety, but from what was seen, we were absolutely blown away. A must see if you're in Hamilton. Even more incredible is that 50 years ago, the space was a rubbish dump!
