Reviews of Hamilton Zoo
K.Had a great time with the kids. Not too crowded. The animals were surprisingly interactive, especially the monkeys. I put my hand up to the glass and a baby monkey climbed all the way up and put his little hand on mine. The outdoor aviary is a great way to learn about indigenous plant species and spot NZ birds. I've been to a few zoos and this was the most seamless trip I've had. Make sure to bring a water bottle, hat and sunscreen. Snacks if you don't want to buy. It was a great day:)
R.Fabulous day out! Upgrades to facilities are great. So much to see and do for families and very reasonable cost for entry.
Plenty of areas to get out of hot sun and sit to rest.
Highly recommend to all.
M.Had an exciting day at Hamilton zoo! It has lots of cool animals including cheetah, tiger, rhino. We missed the giraffe and gorilla tho (for next time!). Two adult tickets cost $52 and my little one (below 3) got in for free. We went around 12 o'clock and the zoo was not fully packed and pleasantly there was naturally shaded walks so we weren't burning in the sun. Overall had a great day, took us around 2.5 hours to get through the enclosures. I recommend this Zoo to people visiting Hamilton

T.We visited the Hamilton Zoo today for the first time. It was a really warm day - around 31⁰C when we arrived, climbing to 34⁰C by the time we left. Because it was so warm, and there was very little breeze, a lot of the animals were snuggled in their dens/burrows/houses, and we missed seeing well over half of the zoo's animal inhabitants. It was so hot that the poor Tui were open-mouth breathing, and had no energy for singing.
Seeing "empty" enclosure after "empty" enclosure lent the zoo a very Jurassic Park feel, hehe. Nobody's fault of course, but a little disappointing all the same.
That said, we were super impressed with the rhino enclosure and how close you could get to these incredible animals. They were just gorgeous.
It is a very pretty zoo with beautiful paths and a lovely walk-through aviary which was full of native trees and quite beautiful.
Outside the aviary, seeing a tiny peacock chick with his proud and protective mum was pretty special, too.
A pretty decent way to spend both your time and $26 😊
M.Awesome spot. All wheelchair friendly. A few steep spots that may require help with. Can be hard to spot some animals on hot days. Lots of spots for a picnic.
R.What an absolute amazing zoo! I live in Auckland and I don't think I'd ever go back to the Auckland zoo in comparison! So many great viewing areas around each enclosure. Able to see all the animals, spacious, kid friendly and lots of shade/coverage while walking on a hot summers day! Thank you for such a great day team! Xx
D.Im not a huge fan of animal prisons but if you would like to see some African animals up close this is for you.
I thought the walking tracks could have been designed a bit better too many dead ends.
R.Great zoo, lovely and clean enclosures, animals all look well cared for, easy walking zoo.
Only downfall is there were a few enclosures closed and animals not viewable.
M.The new entrance way is very flash and makes going into the zoo itself a big event. Love the variety of animals and that the ground is mostly flat. The new slides by the chimp enclosure are great for kids and adults alike! Would love more shady places to sit for picnics etc around the zoo with view of the animals though.
