Reviews of Queens Park, Invercargill
Great park for walking, having time to spend with kids, nice playground, animals, I loved the peacock 🦚 there. Beautiful garden as well.
A fabulous park..we meandered around for 4 hrs! Lots to see..Aviary, Farm Park, Winter Garden, Chinese Garden, Japanese Garden, Rock Garden, NZ Garden, Rose Garden & the Jessie Calder Garden is attached with another Rose Garden. Very beautiful 😍
Very nice park with cafeplay ground and splash pad. Dogs allowed but must on leash. Beautiful maintained gardens and hot houses
Walked around with the dog on a leash for over 2hrs . Took turns going into the inside garden and animal area where the dog could not go . But a good day .clean toilets available .
great to find a santuary place in this area only covered a small part...People of all ages enjoying the place and no cops
Huge space, lovely walks on sealel walkways, great Playground for Kids. Beautiful Tree.
Fantastic, beautiful park right in the middle of the city.
An oasis of peace and tranquility for the wary traveler. The gardens are beautiful as were the birds in the aviary.
Excellent park for the family to explore with plenty of different areas tucked away and pockets of shelter.
Nice park with trees, big playgrounds, cafe, botanic gardens and an animal enclosure. Not bad considering the cost (free)
A great park to take a walk through. It is massive. Very relaxed atmosphere amongst beautifully landscaped grounds. Worth a visit whether local or tourists, handy to other amenities.
Love walking in this park went to take photos of the animals. Tui, peacocks, roosters, pigs, goats, ducks, and lots more.
What a wonderful asset for Invercargill, we had a lovely time walking through the gardens. Our children especially enjoyed splashing through the paddling pool and water playground in the children's play area.
Queens park is a perfect lovely park here in Invercargill. Great for absolutely everything! Including taking the kids, walking your dogs, going on a run/exercising, being a tourist, whilst being full of boredom as a local from invercargill you can go for a walk. A great carpark on gala street perfect to meet up with your friends. There are loads of statues and hidden quirky things all around the park. It is great for any weather because of the massive old trees that give you shade if its sunny and shelter from the wind and rain. It is maintaiend perfectly. There is an animal park and an avery also. An awesome playground which includes a water play area. Many picnic spots and endless opportunities for fun to be found. The list could go on. A great assest for invercargill which is otherwise rather dull. It is beautifully maintained and abundant amount of rubbish bins and toilet facilities meaning you can spend your entire day here and you will not be struggling. Recommend to visit here as a tourist too.
Nice garden to walk around, good for families, couples and even has a golf course for golf lovers. Were some cute ducklings there when I went and lovely cherry blossoms. There is also a part with animals with an electric fence, did not expect to see a couple of wallabies and some goats.
Loved these beautifully cared for gardens
I watched the Matariki display which started on the 1st of July. It is a celebration of the Maori New year. Tuesday night was the last night for the display. It was really beautiful with coloured light sculptures, sounds and Maori chants and music, from loudspeakers. The only thing is it can be very cold this time of year and it was cold this evening. So good to have very warm clothing.
Beautiful gardens! Quite extensive and worth a good wander around. Really enjoyed the experience. The stumpery was like an elephant graveyard but with wood. I've never come across one before and found it fascinating!
Stunning place to visit, hours slip away and every season is so different
Great place to spend time with family and a great playground for the kids. A peaceful place with good walks to do, animals to look at and some amazing gardens. You can really spend alot of time here and it's just a nice place to be
World class level park.
AMAZING... beautifully landscaped, you can find an aviary, a mini zoo, ponds, Japanese garden. It is Huge and extremely well kept and clean.
Not bad park my grandsons enjoyed it could do with Xtra stuff to do like a shareable gym and maybe update the play ground like brighter colors expand it.
Great place to chill or lots to view
Great park with something for everyone...playground, tropical house, sculptures etc
Extraordinary, so much more than the basic park. Gardens, exercise devises, children's play area, golf, Frisby golf, scenic, well formed paths and many more unexpected features. Allow as much time as needed to relax and enjoy. A repeat visit to discover more gems.
It's peaceful an has a zoo part an lots of beautiful things to look, like the rose gardens are one of my favourite, an I like to call it feiry land, next to the duck poud. An don't forget to take some bread. As the duck are super friendly an come right up to you, also there's the rock hunting is great fun for the kids. They have to hunt for rocks. Keeps them busy. An not only that. They also have the playground.. Great place to take the kids an a picnic.
Great place to do walks and exercise. There are flower gardens, ducks in the pond, an array of tall trees and art sculptures. A quiet place perfect for meditation or performing yoga.
A beautiful place to walk around and just enjoy the peace and quiet. The animal park is good with a variety of animals but the flower garden is a different amazing wonder in itself. Must visit if you are in the area.
Great gardens so tidy. Great playground, nice animal section. Pity fountain wasn't working
A lovely park to wander around. Something for all ages to enjoy.
Always a good experience. A great sunny day with lots of young families enjoying playground, duck pond, farm animals, aviary, rose garden, stumpary, walkways and open space. Just some attention to picking up lollie and icecream wrapping etc and it would be perfect.
Another great nz park. One of the best, variety of gardens, birdlife, and the stumpery. Only in nz. Well worth a visit, the kids playgtound water features is amusing
Large green oasis on the fringe of the city that's great for photography. Parking is plentiful for all sizes of vehicles. There's plenty to see and do... kids play ground, frisbee golf, cafe, duck pond (don't feed them bread as it's bad for them, Google what's ok to give them), various themed garden areas, stumpery, bird aviaries, glass house, animal park, golf course, fitness circuit, statues, and a double layered fountain out front. Treasure hunt for hidden painted stones, or hide some for others to find!
The Invercargill Museum and information center was here too but sadly the building has been closed. A great loss.
It think this place is amazing! I put so photos of the animals there. They have a really nice cafe called The Cheeky Llama, with is super nice. I also think the playground area is great for kids of all ages, as there is things children that are older would enjoy! I love this place and I totally recommend!
Nice park ever! We come here to feed ducks, watch birds and take our boy at the playground. This park has a cafe as well where you can have lunch
Great place for the kids lots of lovely flowers, and the kids paddling pool is awesome in warmer weather
This is a super fun place to go with your family, friends or just for a stroll. There is an animal reserve, a bird aviary, an amazing playground and lots of other fun things to do and see.
Lovely setting, gardens, play ground, tree lined walks, adult fitness equipment
Queens Park Stumpery in its uniqueness is something I never really seen before in a almost arty nature kind of way. If you like the outdoors and happen to be in the park when the weather is favorable I would recommend adding it to the list of many other cool areas spread throughout. There's no entrance fee and can take less than 10min to see the Stumpery end to end and that is if you rush through it, just follow the signs if you having any trouble, better yet try obtain a map of the park. From a tourists perspective I can at least say been there done that.
We only had time for a short break in the morning and visited the animal park here, we were really lucky to see many animals being fed. It was around 9:30am on a weekday and would definitely recommend the experience.
Lovely park in the centre of Invercargill. Lots of grounds to walk through, all beautifully maintained. Great kids playground and animals to view.
Great park, the kids playground is superb. My daughter loved it.
Gets more awesome by the year. The castle depicted here doesn't show it in a good light though!
I love the park. My favourite place to walk. So many nooks and crannies.
Beautiful park. Worth stopping in. Lovely rose garden. Lots of space. Public toilets and a cafe.
Amazing park - the best park in New Zealand. Great for walking and exploring. Check out the animals corner and aviary. Hot house and cactus 🌵 kingdom were my absolute fav. Well done Invercagil for creating and maintaining such a beautiful park in the center of the city.
Excellent park, well maintained some very old trees, great areas for the kids to play and lot's of birds.
Lovely spacious gardens, a credit to the council. Interesting collection of chickens and rabbits
Great place for a relaxing walking no matter the weather. Something for everybody to enjoy for bird avairies to a Winter garden. Perfect for a photo backdrop.
A beautiful place and a gem of the city. Whether it is for a lunchtime walk, jog or playtime for the kids, it's such a joy to be in. It has many different gardens and pathways to explore and enjoy the stunning landscape architecture. I remember it fondly from my early school days.
Well worth a trip here no matter where you come from. Local or tourist this is one of the most beautiful parks in NZ. Plenty to see whether you like the gardens or the playground, the animals or the birds. This park is massive. A great place of serenity for a walk or a run. I'm pretty sure if your dogs are on a lead they are allowed too. Stunning place!
This park is really spectacular, in terms of being ornamental. It is divided into sections that you will enjoy walking around, and see some seasonal planting. I love walking through the rose garden, following and using fitness tracks. It's a family friendly place, it has a cafe near the children's playground.
Our favourite place to go too in Invercargill as we are from Dunedin. My kids love the park and the animals and the amazing art work around the Queen's Park..also the castle, always a novelty for us when we come down.
Great park lots to see and do wonderful playground for kids very beautiful
The pride of Invercargill is Queens Park, a magnificent public park in the heart of the city. The park sprawls across 80 hectares of beautifully kept gardens, wildlife habitats, and sports areas.
Highlights of this New Zealand Garden of National Significance include a stunning rose garden, a rhododendron dell, an azalea garden, a Japanese garden, bush paths through a selection of native plants, rock and herb gardens, and a stumpery. An indoor Winter Garden features tropical and flowering plants, and a range of cacti are displayed in an adjoining structure. The park also houses an impressive bird aviary, farmyard area, and animal enclosures.
Queens Park is perfect for families with children. There is a popular playground, a waterpark, and plenty of space for running around. Bring your own picnic or visit the café in the centre of the park.
The extensive sporting facilities in the park include an 18-hole golf course, a disc golf course, tennis courts, Cricket, Croquet, and Bowling Clubs, and a 4km fitness trail with twenty exercise stations.
Whether exploring this botanic wonderland, working up a sweat on the fitness track, walking your dog down dramatic tree-lined paths, or picnicking with friends and family, Queens Park has something for everyone!
Note: Dog access is allowed if the dog is on a leash. Go here for more dog friendly walks and areas in Southland.

Great large family friendly park with lots of trees, themed gardens, animals, aviary, playground, and cafe.
Fantastic botanical garden, huge rose garden. Playground is absolutely huge with so much for kids to do.
Cute park with an awesome aviary. Plenty of different species of birds to go and see. The walk through part was very cool!
Very large well curated gardens. A lovely place for a stroll. A good coffee can be had at the Cheeky Llama cafe within the park. It is frustrating that many of the plants are not identified by labels.
Lovely park for a walk. Beautiful rose gardens.
All way worth going in to the park for a walk ,maybe get a drink from the coffee or soft drink and food from the little coffie restaurant and support them .
Love this place, loads of space for the kids to go mad on bikes and scooters but also great interaction with the animals and birds
Great time for the wee kiddies and oldies alike. Lovely to see the animals enjoying the spring sunshine
A great place to walk and relax. Loved the Chinese area, and a great sense of humour with Humpty Dumpty sitting on the wall 😀
Absolutely beautiful and well worth a visit. A credit to the gardeners who look after the gardens and lawns
Was a very wet cold morning, but we enjoyed our walk around the gardens. The animal park was lovely. The aviary was well done and educational. Queens park is a wonderful place to visit if you are in Invercargill.
Since my last visit 2020 the aviary and zoo went downhill. Even the plant hot houses isnt what it was.
Incredible park one of the more appealing parts of Invercargill many things to see and appreciate inside don't skip this delight,
A spectacular place to visit at any time of the year. We always go for a walk through the park when we visit our son and family. We live in Cambridge and never get fed up with these gardens, as it has something for every one's interest, young and old. It is a vast area and again a credit to the local council and gardeners for the splendid upkeep
What a park at the heart of the city! Walking at the park is such a leisure. We will be back for more time!
My favourite park and our sanctuary during lockdown. So many walkways.
Such an awesome place to visit. So many things to see and experience
What a fabulous gem! We loved the gardens and the hot house had an impressive array of plants. The playground caters for a wide range of ages from toddlers up and was large enough to absorb wuite big numbers today. But I particularly enjoyed wandering among the animals with our grandson - chickens, rabbits, pigs etc. Will definitely visit again.
Lovely afternoon. Great water park for kids!
This park is amazing. So much to see and do. Amazing playground, amazing walk ways, lovely Cafe. There's a golf course, animals, different scenes throughout the gardens. Something for everyone. Pack a picnic and stay for the whole day

Great large park filled with a museum, bird sanctuary, playground and even a golf course. Would definitely recommend spending a few hours here if you're ever in Invercargill!
Well maintained, lovely tress, and lots of very happy ducks
Fabulous park. Reminded me of Central Park in NY but far more tidy and up to date.
The park is large, well maintained. Lawns were immaculate on our visit.
Great place for a walk, picnic or just to tire out your kids like we did with our 1.5 year old which resulted in a smooth drive back to Queenstown.
One of the best parks I’ve been to in NZ.

Best awesome park in invercargill with water park and mini zoo! My family always come around here before, lots of great places to be having fun when you have kids around with you.
They also offered venues for people that wants to hire for events like birthdays or weddings. Just contact the city council and surely they are more than happy to give you quotes
Cafe was great and the animals were good to walk around and view after.
absolutely stunning, kids loved it
The most beautiful park in every season. Plenty of space for everyone
Gardens great ,unfortunately with covid some of it was shut, couldn't see why the birds were shut as they are outside.

Kids always love this park for bike riding and the play area. I love it for the wide open spaces and beautiful ever changing plantings and wonderful trees big and small. One of Invercargills true gems.
A great asset for Invercargill, we spent several hours over two days here.

Absolutely beautiful! Lovely to walk around, the playground is one of the best we have seen (even for our older kids!) and the cute animals were the icing on the top!

Lovely park. I'm not really a park person but this is very good, beautifully maintained and well worth visiting. Well done Invercargill.
Perfect for a walk, run, or whatever floats your boat.
Lovely and quiet with just the bird song filling the air. The tall trees with their haunting energy. Coloured flowers a sight to see.
Beautiful garden with special roses
Wonderful place to go for coffee. Staff are so friendly and always great service. Great cabinet food and meals too. Couldn't recommend it more highly. I go there at least once a week.
Absoluty a great experience wonderful for kids
We come here often if we want to eat Indian food and lam curry. However the lunch took a while to prepare.
I love queen's park!! great plants shrubs trees. well maintained. beautiful walking paths. nice cafe.
walking distance to centre of city
Beautiful old gardens with so much to see, birds, reptiles, gardens, trees just everything to keep all ages entertained. Loved the Kaka bird.
We all enjoyed it. Grandparents could be in the cafe with a great selection of food and friendly staff, while we had a good view of the children playing in the wonderful playground. The highlight of their week long holiday was playing on the hampster wheel. We went twice and they begged us to take them back again. We have played in the fantastic water park during summer and that's great too, with fun equipment.
Awesome park, especially in spring when all the flowers are out. Theres a rose garden, animal park ( goats, ducks, chickens, rabbits and more), playground, picnic tables, ponds and even a cafe. Good for the family or a romantic picnic.
Lovely spot for a stroll, or picnic. Plenty of little nooks and crannies to explore. Bring the kids, bring the grandparents.. fun for the whole family!
Nice garden for walking around
Great place to spend with family, kids or pets. Amazing park. I love the rose garden.
What can you say above perfection. That is it.Credit to Invercargill
Great place all round ether your there having fun with the kids or just looking some solidarity and tranquility or even a round or two of golf with or without clubs Queens Park is a must when traversing Invercargill ✌️😉
Nice place to visit when in Invercargill.
Not good cafe kitchen closed 50 minutes to early so we left . Grandsons were hungry, but rest of queens park was good
Me and my husband were just observing by the aviary how nice it was to see the birds been rotated in different cages. The animals are so well taken care. Maintenance is well kept on the premises.
A great place to walk a dog, picnic with your children, explore the ever changing gardens, play golf, if you are so inclined, or just soak up the atmosphere. We enjoy going here regularly.
Very big beautiful park, could do with more signs to the different locations within the park.
Good relaxing place in middle of town
Great place for a walk with the little one
Great place to spend the day.
Such a beautiful place, amazing gardens, trees and ponds nestled beside a great golf course.
If you take the time to walk around the whole gardens you may come across the Alpacas, Ostrich and Sheep
Great place to wander around. The playground has the space to add additional activities. Child friendly
Lovely Park, great place to take the Grandkids for play in the grounds and a pleasant walk.
Cool area the stumpery. Today was a rock sharing day with the little people.
Beautiful place with several stuff made with wood.
Big park in the centre of Invercargill. Has a playground and an area with lots of animals (inc ostrich, wallabies, sheep, goats, rabbits, pigs, ducks etc) which is good for kids. There is a cafe called the Cheeky Llama next to the playground. Also has lots of trees and flower gardens.
Queen's Park is the jewel be crown. It's huge, loads of lovely areas to visit, gardens, animals, playgrounds and cafes
Absolutely stunning... sooo much to see and do, love it everytime I visit. .. a real credit to invercargill 😊
Other main cities need to promote their public parks
Awesome family park, gardens, bird aviary, winter garden, playgrounds, golf course, walks, fitness track and Cafe. There really is something for everyone here.
Always been a great park
No matter the weather a great place to walk with the kids, the dog or with a special someone. A nice place to sit and watch the world go by. There's something for everyone here.
Its a pretty decent park. A little small for bikes but still fun to ride. Only downside is most good days its pack with scooter kids until around 9pm. I'd really rather not run into them
There's so much to see, you really could spend all day here. Lots of animals, birds, play ground for the kids & lots of plants too.
I didn't know what to expect when I saw Queens Park on the map. There were plenty of parking. Afterwards, I decided to wonder around, then saw alpacas and emus just chilling in the same enclosure - that was one of the oddest things I've seen during the visit. It turns out that the centre of the venue is full of animals across the Tasman - sort of like a zoo.
Then, walking further north, I realised that the northern part of the park is actually a golf course - don't accidentally go in, otherwise you're gonna get hit!
Furthermore, there were several themed gardens you could visit, but I think some can be done better, especially the so called Japanese garden.
Overall, it's worth a visit. It has plenty of parking, free, and many things to experience.
Incredible park! Something for everyone for sure! Playground for the children, situated near the Cheeky Llama Cafe. Rose Garden, Museum, with a cafe inside. Tuataras. Birds. Golf. Yes, something for everyone. And, plenty of space and walking! Other then some individuals visiting an smoking where the playground is (non smoking area), and dogs in the playground (no dog area). It's a great place for friends and family!
It's beautiful any season of the year to go for a stroll or to do the exercise circuit. Great playground for kids to play and a walk through bird aviary.
Best park and gardens in NZ
Great way to spend time with grandchildren.
Nice relaxing place. Lots of things to look at and do. Duck pond. Rose garden. Winter garden. Bird aviary. Animal place. Cafe. Playground. Walking/running track with exercise stations. Different Other areas too.
Of all of the things we saw in Invercargill, Queens Park is what we'd definitely come back for. The place is amazing. I was totally overwhelmed by the remarkable presentation of so many different gardens and lawns in the park. They were all impeccably designed and maintained. The whole place was incredible. The aviary area also was excellent. Deserves more than 5 stars. This place is a real credit in particular to the groundskeepers but also all of the citizens of Invercargill.
I always like biking and walking around Queens Park.
Beautiful gardens very nicely set out. A nice cafe, bird aviary, small animal area and playground. A wonderful asset for a small city
Great family park.
A wonderful variety of activities.
And well used.
Such a beautiful and peaceful park. Has something for young and old.
There is a golf coarse, beautiful paths, statues, animals, play park for kids, a art gallery and a coffee shop. A must if in the area.
Very nicely maintained
Wow, what a great park. So many things to go and have a look at. Will definitely head back for a look when we are down that way next time.
Some of this park were great while other were not. The play ground was awesome
Great place to visit with the family. Amazing playground facilities, animal park and Avery. Great selection of plantlife if that's your thing. Highly recommend walking through this tranquil place.
Stunning! Just so beautiful, I wish we'd had more time to spend here. Loved the animals & tulips were spectacular. Definitely worth a look if you're in the area.
What a beautiful asset. Simply wow!
Beautiful park, great place for all the family.
Great park for families. Playgrounds are great for kids. Beautiful gardens as well.
I loved these gardens. So much to do and explore.
Fabulous place to wander around and plenty of smells for dogs to sniff out. Very artistic and cleverly done. Spoilt that day by some young lady with their bikes taking over the place.
such a beautiful public garden. huge asset for Invercargill.
Beautiful place nice walking area and lovely atmosphere
Nice tidy park great playground and area for the kids and not a bad golf course aswell
We are so happy we stayed close to Queens Park for our month in Invercargill. Every walk entails a new discovery. Incredibly it integrates flower gardens, golf course, exercise course, frisbee golf, open zoo, aviary, tuatara exhibits, cricket stadium and a sculpture of Bert Munro.
Well looked after, very nice to walk through and see all the different things Queens park has within
We are totally spoilt with this beautiful place. The Cheeky Llama Cafe has very good food and Coffee. The people who walk round this park are so friendly.
Amazing kids playground, mini water park, rose gardens, tennis courts, even have golf course! This place really live up to its name as the Queen's Park
Built from park trees that had come down or taken down from storms.
Interesting art forms but some images that could scare young children.
Also children need to take care of pieces of sharp timber.
Great place to see most farm animals in a town and great for getting a snack or coffee at the cafe but I wish the pool was running all year round
Take off your shoes and walk through the roses's garden
Ots always been a favorite for my family to visit. Even more so now that junior the big orange cat frequents there.
Lovely big gardens to walk around and enjoy some fresh air. Popular place for dog walkers, so plenty of floofs to say hello to.
Looking great with Spring flowers and blossom.
This has to be one of New Zealand's best city parks, there's stunning gardens but most importantly for the kids there's a plaground area and splash zone which kids went crazy for. Also a Woodland animals area with everything from rabbits to Wallabies - totally unexpected also there is a museum and two cafes and kids play castle there is also a "fitness track" that allows you to enjoy all kinds of physical activities, including machine assisted ones. On a nice day a must see.
This Park is a beautiful place and a credit to the City Council staff that maintain it. It has so many treasures for all ages and it is so accessible for everyone
