Reviews of Avalon Park
L.
Really nice playground with lots of varieties for all ages! Double zip line too!
M.
Attended a kid's birthday party in the Pavilion.
Very good playground for the kids. Huge warning for parents: there is a large, unfenced, water feature/area within the park. It wouldn't take much for a kid or someone else to fall into it.
V.
Great little park. Good playground for the kids, with an interactive water feature. Duck pond is nice to walk around. There's a little train for the kids and a circuit for them to ride bikes around. Plenty of big grassy areas for picnics and playing games. There are toilets and bbq on site too
J.
family picnic 🥰
don't forget to bring any of the following to feed the ducks.. oatmeal, rice, peas, corn or lettuce.. white.bread is not allowed.
S.
as I always say a good place to walk and be relaxed. 😌
E.
Lovely park and lots to keep the kids busy. Will certainly be visiting again. Would be nice though if they fenced off the pond areas to make it a bit safer for kids.
D.
Avalon park is a great place for kids of any age. We have been here many times and it never disappoints.
There are lots of different places for young children to enjoy as well as early primary school. They have an elaborate water pump and dam setup where several kids can play together. There are different types of swings as well as a great flying fox.
There are climbing walls and several different rope climbing structures that the kids love. Even early teens can enjoy mini golf or the paddle boats if they are available.
Definitely take the time to visit and spend a few hours with your family. It’s a great place to invite your children’s friends to make it easier to keep everyone entertained.
r.
Great park for families especially in the heat of summer. It could do with more shade n undershade seating too. Wish we had the equivalent in West Auckland and why don't we Auckland City Council?
M.
Very nice park for the 5year old children and older children, but still worth going there. The only thing you would need to watch out for is the slides especially when they get hot they could hurt the kids
J.
Family friendly, lots of open space for activities and playground areas for the kids. Ducks were friendly and happy to come see everyone also.
Not to mention "Colin the T-Rex" an impressive dinosaur sculpture is definitely the highlight of the park for me.
A.
Love this place! Water play is excellent, little kids also catered for, well built and exciting climbing area too. Go when the Lions train is running - not expensive to ride and lots of fun for the train enthusiast in your family!
D.
We love this park has a good variety of activities for children to enjoy, my little lives water play area , I suggest that you take change of clothes if your child likes water
H.
If its a hot sunny day or a cold day this park has plenty to offer amazing parking toilets are awesome and they even have a water thingy for kids
K.
Needs more shade stations, but great facilities bathrooms, equipment, great cycling learning track
T.
Amazing place, so much to do and see! Take spare clothes for kids, there's lots of water play. Great for tuī watching, too - they get extremely close.

Work to complete the final stage of the Wellington region's largest destination playground park has started, at a cost of $2 million.
Avalon Park in Lower Hutt had a major upgrade of playground equipment and play areas, which cost $3.7 million in 2016.
The latest part of the project will focus on an adjacent and run-down pond area.
The council's reserves planner, Kelly Crandle, has been involved with the project since 2012, when consultation with the public first started. She said part of the latest phase was to make one of the entrances more attractive.
We're creating an entrance that we haven't had before that you'll see when you drive along Fairway Drive. We think it'll be quite appealing for people coming to the park.
So far it's on time - we've had a fantastic time of weather and we're hoping for more so the contractor has a fair chance of completing the work by the end of June."
She said the main job was to replace an old timber bridge that was on its last legs.
R.
Great family 👪 place. Lots of wide open spaces for kids and pets. Need more toilet facilities though, one isn't enough.
B.
Avalon park is arguably the best park in the Wellington area. Great bike tracks for kids, excellent playground, train rides, pond paddlers, minigolf. Our daughter loves it.
T.
Such a great park with water, sand, climbing, swinging and lots of areas for picnics and a skate park area and two little flying foxes all parks/playgrounds should be like this, my kids loved it.
N.
The most amazing place to take the kids, bike track, heaps of parks, water play, duck pond, a dinosaur, paddling boats and kids train, what more could kids ask for?!
E.
Avalon park is awesome. Have been a couple of times over the last two days. Had the scooters in the car but the boys are to busy with the options available.
One of my boys was struggling on a cargo net but a teenage girl found him and even though I was there talked him over with confidence.
The community spirit with young people and plenty of Wilde life makes it that more enjoyable.
We highly recommend this park while in Wellington
B.
Excellent playground and wide parking spaces, with the recent upgrades kids are truly enjoying this magnificent facility. Public toilets are have easy access and they Pavilion for events and gatherings.
S.
What a great day out. We attended a kids birthday picnic. Such fun. Will definitely return.
E.
Loved playing in the park and then some mini golf and then went on the train ride. All these activities in one place .you can easily spent the day there
V.
Perfect place to go with your kids. Enjoy the mini train ride, the slides, the duck pond and many other options. If you enjoy mini golf you're in the right place. Kids and adults will love this place.
D.
I didn't come to use the nice children's playground or the old skateboard area but to check out my favorite dinosaur.
S.
Fun for all ages. Provides hours of entertainment with the bike park, mini put and grass for picnics
J.
Great walk in Avalon, not far from home L4,3,2,1.
Nice to collect fish n chips and have lunch or dinner at one of many tables in the park, then let the children run off some energy! 🏃🚴🤸
J.
One of Wellington's best playgrounds, we often travel across town to get to it. The playground area is will spread out, with a selection of kit for all ages, and is very pleasant for parents to hang around in also.
T.
This park is easily the best in the wider region. Our kids love it and easily spend a couple of hours playing. If it is a day that the train is running even better! (Cash needed for the train) There is lots of water play so if they are a bit younger a change of clothes might be in order. Bikes and scooters are great to bring too as the field next door has the added bonus of an amazing track with road signs. Caution though - you might have trouble dragging your kids away! Ps - never fear mr whippy has food and coffee 😉 unless you are like me and forgot your wallet 😭
J.
It's quite nice me and my kids can stay there for at least 2hrs minimum lol 😆😂
On Saturdays not 💯% on Sundays but yeah they have a kids train $2 per person
And there's also a duck pond
R.
A popular spot with so much to do and just hang out. Great for the entire family and ample parking as well.
B.
Lots of great things to play with and has an area for bike riding. Has picnic tables too. Lots of fun to be had here
S.
Very good park but when you have 2 toddlers its hard to watch them both. It needs a small fenced off play area for under 5's.
A.
It is such a big park with a huge playground for kids. It is very well maintained. Big pond with ducks. We went for a fair that happened here. Nice place to go picnic and spend the day!
J.
Avalon park has enough kids equipment to keep a whole classroom of kids occupied. It has two flying foxes from memory. It also has a miniature railway run by the local Lions club. I do know for a fact that there is a Hillman Hunter engine powering the train. For two dollars a ride they do a great job.
E.
Avalon Park is really very good place for kids.
There's a lot to do.
R.
Park with lots of room and some cool areas for the kids. Playground for the kids is awesome. The park also has a lake for model boats, a skate park, a bike park, petanque court, train rides and plenty of space to kick a ball. Well worth the venture out to Avalon.
N.
Such a great place to go with kids of all ages. Great climbing for my kids who are under 5, they also love the fly g fox!!
A.
Awesome playground, spread out over a large area with equipment to suit all ages. Flying fox, climbing web and frames, water play, slide, swings, and more. There is a bike park at one end with paths and give way signs, etc, and a duck pond and small skate park at the other end. There are sometimes paddle boats on the duck pond, and sometimes the train is operating near the bike park at the other end, usually in the weekend, both of these cost money to ride.
a.
Avalon park is a spacius modern park equipped with all facilities keeping a natural look intact...multiple play areas with swings for varied ages, walking track, a mini train, cycling tracks , place for bbq, beautiful pond full of ducks, community halls for events...doesn't that sound awesome...yes indeed :).... bonus: Multiple entrances and huge parking area...
M.
Sprawling activities and well maintained facilities.
There's a flying fox, toy train, paddle boats and even t-rex!!
R.
Avalon Park is well known to be one of the best recreational facilities and has been upgraded over years.
c.
awesome. extravaganza fair on today at Avalon Park. free admission. crafts stalls
bouncey castle.
food . great activities for children. too 10 am to 5pm Sunday. also
A.
Wonderful for all ages lots of green grass picnicking areas
c.
Our kid loved it ✌️ lots of seating for having lunch too.
M.
My children love this park. It has so much, excellent quality playground with two decent flying foxes, lots of climbing equipment to really test the climbing skills, awesome marked bike track with signs, a train through the park which runs each weekend (I think!). Lovely place for picnics with good shady areas if too hot. It also has a skate park as part of it.
F.
Awesome park just a short drive away from Wellington. Apparently it cost $6m to build the play area which was very impressive and featured a mini "driving" area for kids with roads and road signs and roundabouts. Lots of different playground attractions including climbing structures, water play, sand play and even a mini golf area ($3 for 18 holes) to go with the usual swings and slides. My kid who is 4 yo had a blast in the playground and almost refused to leave.
A.
Great park with heaps to do for the kids. Massive new playground with slides, flying fox and water features. A track to learn the road rules on and a train to ride on top this off. After dark the park gets super seedy with the occasional drug deal being seen but during the day its great.
J.
Was an awesome place for kids to play, had so many different things for the kids to play on.
M.
Brought my niece to this place and he absolutely adored it. Lots of places to play. There are picnic tables everywhere. Trees provide shade. The only downside was the train. All the kids hopped in and were all excited to go, but then they told us train was not working. Kinda heartbreaking for the kids. They should have told us first about it. But anyway, that’s just one part of the park, so the rest were perfect!
a.
The best park in Wellington for kids and long tracks for adults to run too
K.
This park has a great range of play equipment for a wide age range of kids. water, sand and sound experience areas as well as your standard swings, slides and climbing apparatus.
It does get very busy here though, and there isn't a lot of shade over the play area.
J.
It's a nice quiet place for kids to relax or run about. My highly disabled challenging clients love this place as its quieter on the weekdays. They enjoy the swings.
T.
Clean well presented I enjoyed it
Y.
The park were so vast and the playground also has numerous tools and toys that support multiple outdoor activities. If you lucky enough, perhaps you can spot a Spinosaurus while navigating a small boat on the artificial pond
L.
Great park to take the kids, has climbing walls, flying Fox's, slides, swings, bike park, skate park, miniature train rides, water play area as well.
D.
My family love this park. Great stuff for kids, usually an ice-cream van and coffee truck parked nearby, ducks in the pond too. My 2 year old gives it 2 thumbs up 👍🏻👍🏻
A.
This is one of my favorite parks around Welly. It has many things to offer. Huge play grounds for kids with varieties of play equipment for climbing, sliding and water games. The flying fox is amazing. The track for bikes, ski boards and scooter is fun and the lake is fabulous. The toilet is clean and new. You can hop in the train for a short tour. I love it.
P.
This park looks very well made! From soft ground for safety to water fountain for drinking and lots of other activities for kids. But probably bring sunscreen if its sunny because there's no covering
There's also public toilets and lots of parking .
Too bad I didn't get any pictures because I went there for a engagement party buts its worth the look!
A.
This park is massive
Well maintained
Good picnic spot
Massive carparks
Lot of playing equipment, mini zipline
Got a little pond and a bridge
There is a mini golf on the far left of park
M.
Wonderful park and a credit to their council!👍 went there today with our child and there were about 30 other parents there but there was still plenty of room and it was a lovely atmosphere😊 so many things to do and so well set out!👍👍👍
The Lions Club had the train ride running which was so great for the kids (and a few adults 😂). $2 per adult and kids for free!
Can't express my admiration for Lions! 🙏💗
P.
Wonderful. Although we live in Naenae we hadn't visited the playground until last Sunday. My 16 mth old grandson simply loved the water features as did the grown ups too. We'll now be regulars. It us such a world of fantastic adventures for kids. A great asset to the Hutt Valley and surrounds.
Y.
This location ticks all the boxes. It has everything kids and families need, from well built play grounds, bbq areas, good facilities, train rides, boat rides and even small take away caravan that sells delicious food. Must visit destination.
K.
Awesome park. So much to do for all ages.
D.
Feed the ducks seagulls and pigeons some dried oats. My granddaughter loved watching them eat. Walked over the bridge. Very cold day but still enjoyed the outing.
M.
Watch out for the grass eaters...
D.
Not bad! I guess could be great for local families; one of the biggest playgrounds I have seen in the Hutt Valley.
T.
Changed so much since I used to play there as a kid. Lots more to do now, always busy. Plenty of open space and plenty to keep kids busy. Mini golf at one end by the pond.
A.
One of the best throughout Wellington. Well maintained and big play area... Kid's heaven
L.
Lovely park, lots of different spaces and things to play/do
B.
Went there to check out the suitability of the pond for sailing my model yacht. Excellent environment.
j.
Thought maybe could be more in the babies/toddlers area n some shaded areas needed
I.
If a child wants to ride a bike, we always go to this park. Everything is well organized. If a child is tired to ride a bike, he can go to the playground. You can also take a ride on a little train. You can also have a picnic. Nice place to hang out with Kids.
e.
So much fun on the paddle boats today the man was lovely!
A.
Excellent family and friend catch up for every age group
A.
Lots of of fun for the kids with rock climbing walls, big slide, swings, rope climbing, interactive water toys flying fox and a big area for bikes, blades, scooters etc even has a train ride going on the weekend! This place ready is a great park usually very busy. Would highly recommend a visit.
S.
Very Good Play area for children. Nice place for weekends. Well Maintained Place, and lots of fun for kids...Some of the play equipment is designed to be enjoyed by children with disabilities. You'll find more adventurous activities like The Helix and Red Spaceball climbing frames, the Super Mega Swing, a bird’s nest swing, the Amazon Tower slide, tunnels, climbing walls and a twin flying fox.
R.
My boys love playing here there's lots to do and play on 😀
R.
Beautiful park with lots of unique options for the kids. Minigolf, water pumps and channels, a climbing tower, bike area... You name it!
S.
Great place for kids to run around and play. I've never seen a kid who's not enjoying their time. There's every type of activity a kid can enjoy. There are generic slides and swings etc but kids can also enjoy wall climbing, sandpits, rope climbing, trampolines, flying fox, a dedicated bike track and much more. Toy train for $2 is a must. Must visit if your kid loves spending time outside.
L.
it's a great place for kids.
M.
A very educational play ground for the children
R.
Good park, lots of activities for the children.
A.
So many families enjoying the park, and the sun.
J.
What a nice place for kids to enjoy slides and rides. Real central location and nicely designed.
C.
There was a dinosaur sculpture!!
D.
Such a great place for the children to play. Different aged items of play equipment for each group of children. A awesome bike park for you to teach your children how to ride using the road. And a awesome train on the weekend and public holidays can definitely fill in hour's
C.
Plenty of space and lots of different equipment for the kids. Clean and plenty of parking
A.
Great fun for kids of all ages
R.
my little girl loved this, so many rides for kids of all age groups😀
V.
Great park with sheltered picnic benches and grills. There's also playground, and a few water features - a pond and an artificial but very pretty waterfall.
D.
Amazing!
This is a destination park. We drive over the Haywards Hill to hang out here and explore the installations.
The play area is newly built and well thought out. It flows from an area suitable for toddlers to an area for bigger kids in an interesting and natural way. In the middle there are water play, nature and sound areas that are a lot of fun. The water section in particular is ingenious.
At the back of the park there is a bike track, complete with road signs snd a miniature train ride. At the front there is a pond - with a dinosaur sculpture and a bridge. And a mini golf course too.
There is an ice cream and coffee truck that sometimes parks here. But i would recommend bringing your own.
Its been fun to watch this place grow over the last few years. The designers have poured love and imagination into it and it shows.
H.
Great for the kids. So much to do.
G.
Great place to have an outdoor play experience with a child/ren. For purpose, play equipment, the waterplay unit is particularly good. Picnic under shady trees, watch the ducks at the lagoon or checkout out Colin the TRex - ultimate Dino.
G.
Very well laid out kids area
C.
Very good place for all specially for kid.
T.
Great place to let your kids run about. They can also bring their scooters and bikes. There a small sand pit with a slide on it. Theres also a see-saw and other stuff to keep the kids occupied.
G.
Great experience for people across age groups.water experiences very good indeed. SWING area for youngest ones excellent. He could see others swinging etc.Nice.
C.
Exceptional park facility. Water play, sand pit, lots of climbing frames, flying fox, duck pond and water fall, skate park, miniature railway, and many many more. Adventure plus here for all ages. Really you can't find a better place to bring the family for a really fun fun part of the day.
F.
This is our local park & its lovely just wish the barbeques were closer to the park instead of on the other side by the pond and toilets
R.
The kids loved it, definitely on par with Margret Mahey's in Christchurch. Would advise a change of clothes if wanting to try the paddle boats, my leg cramped during a tour of the pond with my son, and much to the amusment of those onshore upon tryng to adjust managed to partially swamp our boat.
J.
Avalon Park is amazing for kids. They have a wide range of activities suited from pre school to much older. There is sand pits, a water area (pack a change of clothes just in case) ropes, a duck pond, a flying fox and my kids favourite a scooter track. Also a skate park very close by. There is plenty of parking, only downside is there is no food available at the premises so best take your own.
C.
Great park but needs a fenced in section for little kids to run around in without worrying they will escape. Toilets were dirty and not enough changing stations. The train was running and that was a nice loop for $2 an adult.
J.
Avalon park better than ever, so much to be had now !!
E.
A great place for family time.
T.
The "go to" park in the Taita/ Naenae area. Massive grassy areas to run around, plenty of room to walk the dog, rides & swings & climbing apparatus for the kids...theres even a little train that runs on the w/ends.. Highly recommended for families to enjoy!!
E.
Hadn't been here for years and WOW what a massive change the park has had such a great makeover it is wonderful! Very scenic and great for kids
D.
Great big park with lots of fun stuff. Kids bike riding area with mini intersections and signs to practice road rules. Big playground with a whole water toys area. Model boat pond with ducks (don't feed them bread). Mini golf. Lots of open green space for other activities.
L.
Great area to bring your Bikes or Scooters. Big playground area for all ages. Nice spots for a picnic under big trees. Mini train ride is always fun on a Sunday.
G.
Great place, brilliant activities for kids of all ages with lots of opportunities for learning experiences. All the equipment well designed to give good balance between safe and fun. Very easy to take toddlers and young children here and consume 3 or 4 hours without noticing the time go.
B.
Excellent playground for kids of all ages.
T.
I like taking my mokopuna here. So much to do
C.
Wow! This place is really impressive. Could go here with a large group of kids of varied ages and they'd all have something fun to do. As we were there with a toddler we checked out the younger areas and were particularly impressed with the water and sand play areas. I'm just surprised there weren't more food/coffee trucks about...
K.
Grandson loves it. Always something to play on but skate park and road track is the favorite at the moment.
C.
Amazing park. Something for all ages.
K.
Incredible park for kids (and adults). All of the usual items are better than normal but the additional educational items are stunning- Archimedes Screw, water pumps and wheels, sand diggers and more. A Tyrannosaurus meets you at the lake gate - could you ask for more!
k.
Awesome park, playground and bike track for kids. Only wish they had a good cafe there.
D.
Awesome awesome park!! The playground is out of this world amazing with a wicked sand pit area and extraordinary kinetic interactive water feature!! We stopped here after a trip to the Hutt hospital it was really amazing!! The only thing that wasnt 100% was the skate park area, it could do with an upgrade. Apart from that a super duper park!
R.
Great for kids! Probably best for ages 3 to 9 but our 11yr old also had fun.
D.
I wanted to have a swing. So disappointed. It's set up all wrong. The height of the frame the 2 swings are on is way too high. A long pendulum takes way more effort and still, I had to ask my husband to push me 🙄
J.
The upgrade has proven very user friendly, with an emphasis on safe kiddies play areas, a mini put cse, a duck pond with a bridge across it or a walk around track, may even have a user pay bbque facilities.
G.
Great playground for kids, and caregivers.
In a strong NW wind, a bit exposed.
On weekends has Lions Golf Miniput and Lions Kids Train. Good fun and cheap fee.
E.
Great park and play ground for kids of all ages
F.
really nice now the park refurbishment has been completed. please take a change of clothes and a towel as the water play will result in dirty wet children! there are bbqs you can use otherwise pack some food and enjoy your time. No shops in the immediate location however a few fast food joints down the road.
H.
My son was in heaven here. We came back every day of our 5 day stay.
D.
Amazing place for outdoor fun, specially for kids and families.
B.
Avalon park is so beautiful and a great place to spend with family/friends. There is so much to do as well!
S.
This is a great park and well worth a visit, particularly if you have kids.
S.
Awesome but miss feeding the ducks.
V.
Awesome park, with a ton of different types of things for the kids to play on. Couldn't get them away when it was time to go.
A.
Great park for a romantic stroll with partner, great place for a picnic and take the kids our for a couple of hours. Has a pond where you can take your little yacht for a sail, and really, Avalon park is a great place for adventure and relax under the trees.
N.
This is our 'go to place' with the kids. Awesome park with big playground, got pond/ducks and next to a mini golf park. Kids love using the bike park. Great place to let the kids and family run around or relax under the trees.
S.
A great place where kids don't only get to play, but learn as well.
There is also an awesome bike track for the little ones, where they can get used to riding on the road as it comes with little speed humps amd resembles an actual road very well.
Scooters are of course also welcome on the track.
The grounds are well maintained and you can even have a picnic if that tickles your fancy.
Parking is ample, however since it is Wellington, expect parking to get snapped up on warmer days.
C.
Great place for kids and family to enjoy. Love that this park is huge for everyone to share. Great for picnic as well.
J.
A wide variety of what I would consider to be very creative play devices and not the same old same old. I'm too old to be doing that sort of thing now, but clearly the many kids there were making active use of everything. I'm tempted to say it's almost like having sturdy modern sculpture built with kid safety in mind. Very cool. And me and my wife just kicked back on a bench to relax.
m.
Great playpark with some water features and lots of different play thing for little ones and older kids too age range toddlers to about 8 to 9 years old but that's just my opinion. with public toilet and shaded areas to have morning tea or lunch
B.
Can be a busy or a quiet place to wind down and enjoy the outdoor reasonably large park and surroundings. Lovely mature trees dotted over the park and pleasing to the eyes, for shelter or for privacy. Large modern playground for the kids, mature and young.
H.
Very nice park for kids
L.
Park has had a revamp. New kids playground which is great. Hours of fun for the kids. Nice bike track for them as well as mini golf at the weekends. Take my grandchildren and they love it.
Z.
Fantastic place to relax and enjoy the kids been outside in the fresh air entertaining themselves for a easy couple of hours
A.
A fantastic park for children of all ages. There is a playground that has just been renovated which includes a small water play area (make sure to bring a change of clothes for the warmer days). The train ride is always a hit with the younger children. There is a fantastic area for children to ride their bikes and scooters. Don't forget some bread to feed the ducks too.
E.
I would say I'd go to this park for my son. But I could easily leave him at home and play here all day as a big kid. Looks of water toys to play with (sluice gates, pumps, archimedies screw) and heaps of rope climbing swings, flying foxes. Common sense play equipment instead of over the top safety. Would 200% recommend to kids young and old.
T.
We heaps of fun and enjoyed homemade lunch and kept playing.
K.
Awesome playground, loads of activities for all ages, all well maintained equipment. Really couldn't work out why no coffee cart or cafe though, so many parents there... (-1 star because a coffee would have made it).
G.
Huge play area for kids with so much wonderful activities everywhere... kids would easily spend few hours without getting bored. Bike/scooter track is a big plus. Ample space for picnics.
m.
Great for kids. Lots of mini adventures
C.
It's a great place for children to play around. It's enjoyable
C.
Excellent park but starting to show its age. Fun none the less for the kids. Need more shade installed
J.
No better park in all of greater Wellington. Even in the middle of the school hols, there is loads of parking (you just might need to head round the back--which is closer to the playground anyway.) If it had a splash pad for summer it would be perfect, but let's face it... That would only be useable for about 3 days of the year anyway in Wellihutt!
E.
Amazing park for kids. We went during the school holidays and I've never seen a more crowded park in NZ ever before. Just a shame there's no shade on hot sunny days and toilet facilities are minimal on such crowded days so be prepared to wait.
D.
A blast. Best experience of a playground kids and adults can have. Come early before 10 AM and it's quiet and you can make beautiful pictures of YOUR kids. Has also a bicycle Parcours to practice.
B.
Very good Park. New play ground, BBQ fasilities. Need more public toilet, though.
T.
Avalon park is an amazing place for the children to play. We went twice in one weekend. Such an awesome playground! We loved the water play facilities. A must visit!
S.
So much for the whole family. Coin operated BBQs, a great bike track with road signs abd roundabouts, cool playground for all ages, small skate park, mini golf and a small artificial lake. Easy way to use up a few dollars for very little money
C.
Lots of different things to do for children if all ages, including a mini train, water play, climbing frames and flying fox. Lots of car parks available and public toilets which were clean.
A.
Lots of of open space. Playground with swings etc. Clean loo. Pond with an iron sculpture of a T-rex🦖. Paddling boats available with life jackets. BBQ equipment available. Dog paths. Really good place for the family.
D.
Enjoyed the kids bike roads and swings and slides.
S.
Fantastic playground with much to play on for all ages. Safe playing areas with cushioning around all the apparatuses. Extensive bicycle area with road signage to teach road rules. Well laid out.
n.
Great place for kids as the playground is large and varied. The tennis court is old but fun and free. There's a big field for other activities like touch or soccer etc. Usually there is an ice cream truck there during the day. Also a fun place to play spotlight at night, although I recently heard that an acquaintance was beaten in the park at night, so go there with caution. Also a friend of mine was bitten by a dog in the playground while at the park, all dogs must have a leash but not all owners follow that rule so parents look out for loose dogs.
H.
Great outdoor place for the kids and adults alike. There is lot to explore for the little ones. On a good day they have the kids train as well, that costs $2 per pop. Usually Mr. Whippy truck is around for drinks and ice creams as well.
J.
Stay all day! Great spot to take a picnic and let the kids run around. There’s plenty on offer with an adventure playground, water play, sound funnels, summer train rides, electric BBQs and a mini-golf course on weekends. Kids can ride their bikes around the mini-street course and even see a 12 metre T-Rex in the pond. Hoping we might see a few more to make it a little Jurassic Park-esque!
I.
a good place, a lot of interesting things for children.
P.
The Bike pathway is great place to bring your grand-kids to learn how to ride their brand new bikes or scooters. The traffic signs/centre lines/roundabouts are a nice touch but totally ignored by the kids which is fine in my books. And when they get bored (which happens often) they climb in and over the train tunnel close by. 2 hours well spent!
N.
Really nice park. Good place to take young children. Would be a nice place to have a picnic while your kids can go off and play in the large playground. There is also a kids road where they can take their push bike and try out the road rules
A.
Great place which is well maintained and the playground is refreshed every now and then.
J.
Excellent park for kids. The play area is designed very carefully to avoid any injuries. The park itself is huge and keeps the kids engaged for along time. The park is also well maintained.
S.
A place where you can find a miniture railway that you can ride, a mini put hold course and on a fine day paddle boats you can hire. The adventure playground is brilliant for kids off all ages, including a toddler playground to a water play area. There rope adventure address is fun to climb or try your have at parcour! Come for a visit, bring a picnic and make a day of it. If you want bring your bike and come and try out the cycle and scooter tracks, there is plenty to do and usually had a Mr Whippy van on site for coffee and I've creams!
C.
A great day out for all ages.
A.
Glad to see that the duck pond is still there & ducks are as friendly as ever. However, while the council has upgraded the park, & done a great job with the big kids part, if you have a toddler - best go in 2s. The toddler play area isn't fenced off & is right next to the water feature ... so prepare for a soaked toddler! Old toilets are currently in use & the park is generally very busy on weekend, public holidays & school holidays. Still a great place for fun adventure.
M.
Great place for small kids. Lots of activities. Pay for paddle boats or mini golf. OR have some free entertainment. Excellent playground for little ones and bigger ones too!!
M.
Our kids had a ball tearing around Avalon Park. We drove to Petone and then cycled to Avalon. Played for about an hour. Then rode back to Petone. An awesome Wellington day out for the family.
Next time we'd take a picnic, we couldn't find much choice for food at Avalon.
s.
The new park is real cool the kids live it
Y.
Nice playground to take your kids to
T.
Loads of things to keep little (and not so little) people busy. Swings, slides, a sandpit, flying foxes, a bike track, an amazing water play area, and things to climb and make noise with. There's also a narrow gauge railway that runs on Saturdays, Sundays and during the school holidays from 1pm-4pm. There's not a lot of shade here, so be sun smart during summer visits here.
S.
Great park with a variety of activities for the whole family. An awesome new playground for all ages, a skate park, a lagoon, mini putt, kids road and tons of grass to setup you own cricket or touch game. There are also bbq facilities to make it a day event.
Get there to check it out.
S.
Great place for the kids lots to do from playground for the big and little kids, water play, kids bike section. BBQ and picnic table with toilets close by
D.
Great fun for the kids and Family. Money well spent upgrading this park.Highly recommended!
A.
This park is honestly amazing. I have been coming here since I was 5 and in the 30 years it's still a highlight for me. Is has had amazing work done, it is incredible .. definitely worth the visit for kids
D.
Great new playground along with a kids train that runs in the weekend and really cheap minigolf run by the Lions Association.
There are decent fields to run around and a learn-to-ride track with give way intersections, etc.
Unfortunately it doesn't have any barbecue facilities.
A.
Great family location, the new park is fantastic and there is plenty for the kids to do. Parking is excellent and you have a pretty good view, as a parent, across the entire play area so you can keep an eye on your kids.
V.
Best playground for kids imaginable! Trampolines, zipline, slides and swings galore, water play, duck pond, T-Rex, climbing walls... Hours and hours of fun
R.
Lots to do and very well kept
C.
Avalon Park is much improved since the Council upgraded it. The playground area is very busy and always full of children and their caregivers, young and old . Laughter ripples around. The facilities are very good and tidy too.
S.
Nice place for a walk and relaxing.
S.
Great playground for the kids, with an impressive, imaginative water feature. It's very exposed to the sun though. Plenty of tree shade at the edge but it could use some shade sails over the sandpit's, water pump, etc.
J.
Perfect place for family day out
P.
Great place to take the grandkids!! 😁
V.
Amazing free entry park. Lots of play options for lots of age group. Nice T Rex statue. Good metal bridge with Lake and ducks. Great place to be.
E.
What an awesome park. So much to do regardless of your physicality. 2 x flying fox's? big and sml swings and slides, mini-tramps, poles, bars, climbing walls, percussion instruments, water pump/fountains. Just a lovely place to be.
P.
Beautiful park and a beautil day. We had a picnic by the duck pond and was lovely. Nice and clean and it is a big park to explore.
S.
Great park lots to do, good for all ages but a bit spread out and tricky to keep an eye on more than one young child.
If you have more adults, older children or only one child it's awesome.
j.
Such a cool park!! They have covered the size of a football field with new swings and jungle gyms and slides and swings as i have never seen before. Included are a sand Pitt, water play area, swings large and small, rope climbing tower, and a double flying fox. :)
l.
Avalon Park is lovely and suitable to all family members. Once construction around the Pond is complete, I would definitely give 100%. Great place to take the kids to and no money needed😊😊
C.
Great Park to entertain the kids ... the playground is fantastic fun for children with a great selection of equipment, there's plenty of parking and open space to run wild, an awesome bike track for training children to ride their bikes and a motorised train offering rides for just $2 ...
C.
Amazing set up, well kept and perfect for a break away from the daily grind
S.
love bringing the kids here. its a more modern style playground.focusing more on ropes and climbing. has a water feature that the kids love playing with. Only downfall is the water gets splashed into the surrounding gardens and turns them into a mud pitt. not so nice. the train runs on the weekend unsure of when but info is on a sign next to where they keep the train. has a lovely big pavilion that is able to be hired out by the community. can get quite packed and busy with alot of families and kids.
H.
Amazing Park with waterplay area, incredible bike Park with roads, miniture train with tons of walking/ riding tracks. Fantastic climbing frames for older kids. Flying Fox
, Mini golf, duck pond and much more! Highly recommend!!!
R.
I love this park best place to have family outtings ! Good decent sized park ! Thoughtful on the layout of the park so it's easy for children & adults to enjoy as well
Best place to unleash your inner child
J.
The best playground that my family and I have ever been to. There’s so much to do for kids and it’s a beautifully crafted space.
J.
Nice venue. Huge park outside of the hall so it's good for the kids.
A.
We had a great time at the park. Then the Lions turned up to run the train and that was a sequence of ridiculous errors. First they didn't have tickets and couldn't see another way of running the train without them. Then they got tickets and subsequently locked the keys to the office IN the office, so then still couldn't run the train. Eventually it all happened, but wow, we could have made a day out of it waiting for the train to run!
C.
Avalon park is a great place for kids of all ages, especially toddlers. A recently revamped playground has areas designed for kids of different age groups. The duck pond doubles as a model boating area. There is also a cycle track set up with road signs to help teach road rules.
N.
Love the new park, it's so interesting and the shock rubber flooring is great. However, would avoid sundays if you can as there are so many people there it's hard to get on anything. Otherwise great park.
J.
Best playground in Lower hutt the kids spend hours there. Would be good to see the skate park brought up to the same standard it's pretty tired
B.
What a wonderful park. So much to do.
R.
Fantastic range of things for children to enjoy, from climbing walls, flying foxes, sand pits, water play, slides, train rides and still so much more. Wonderful place.
t.
We took our holiday programme here. Awesome day for the kids that were aged 5 to 12.
A.
A great space for families with lots of playground equipment and a scooter/bike track.
C.
Great park very large area for kids to have fun in very busy but big enough for everyone to have fun .has small kid area, water play area, rope climbing area, fling fox skate park, paddle boat hire in small lake. Great place for pre teens
k.
well laid out park with plenty of variety
R.
Large destination playground and park. Lots to explore, catering for children of all ages. Mini golf and mini train operated by the Lions club in the weekends (I don't know days or times and wish this was easier to find out). Large cycle track for kids to practice racing around on bikes, skates, rollerblades, scooters or skateboards on.
A good number of rubbish bins but could do with more, certainly need emptying after weekends when the weather has been good and lots of people have visited. Bathroom facilities could do with an upgrade.
Looking forward to stage three of the project (Avalon Park upgrade) being completed.
G.
Great place for kids to meet kids and run around for ages (big kid here did most of the activities too)
C.
Excellent park for children. Well thought out with challenges that make children think and engage. Great place to let the kids release some energy, have a family picnic or take a train ride.
M.
Lots for kids to do, has a bike/scooter track, large duck pond with bridge. Always a good time and is very popular.
G.
Great place. Lots of fun for family, but needed more shaded areas
T.
Great place it has it all take a bike and picnic. Only downsize is the toilets are tucked away when you have a few small children to keep your eye on at once
E.
Love the park and model boat pond. Im a regular user of the pond and often take my grandchildren to play at the park. Fantastic work Lower Hutt City Council money well spent.
C.
Awesome playground with so many fun features
D.
Awesome park for the kids. Such a large range of playground equipment & water works. Ideal spot for birthday parties & looked like there was bbqs for hire.
I.
Avalon park is AMAZING for ages 1-10. Not so much up, but it has a skatepark, train ride, sandpit, playground, paddle boats, a pond with ducks, and carnivals are often held there.
D.
The revamp of this place has made it the absolutely perfect spot to take the kids in hit days! Remember a sunhat and a bottle of water because they will want to stay for hours! Bring $5 for the paddle boats or an ice cream too
C.
Great kid day out👍😊
L.
Must visit family park. Or leisurely stroll or picnic or kick ball whatever, Aotea lagoon Porirua could learn alot from this Park, even Queen Elizabeth Park.🤷♀️
s.
Brilliantly designed, room with a heaps and heaps of families. Multi-leveled so appropriate for any age group. Highly recommend
A.
Great place for kids. Large park and bike track for little kids. Check when the train is running too
Z.
As an American, this park amazes me. Even as a thirty year old, I want to go run around. Also the faux street set up is really nice if ur kids are learning to ride a bike.
E.
High quality improvements have been carried out in Avalon Park making it an excellent place to visit for the whole family. Easy accessibility, good parking with lots to entertain all ages.
L.

D.
It is a very nice park
J.
Great place for the kids, the renovations are amazing, the sand and water toys are so cool, I wish were this fun when I was a kid and they still have the Lions train running on weekends for only $2
S.
My kids love it, especially the water section. Would be nice if the bigger kids shared a bit more though.
L.
We love this park but we'll only ever go with 2 adults. We have younger children that are great at running off 😅
We're disappointed at the lack of shade on the playground itself.
S.
Awesome place, need more toilets/change/feeding facilities. Older kids had a great time, but fed and changed the baby in the car.
S.
Avalon playground is by far the biggest playground I have been to yet. It has something for kids of all age groups. I especially love the wall climbing bits there, it's something that's very rare in kids playgrounds. Also love that there are two small trampolines and two flying fox. Children can spend their whole day here.
Apart from this there's a model train! Choo Choo!
The grown ups can sit and enjoy near the pond. Small children love to see the ducks as well. Just pack a picnic and enjoy your day out in Avalon park.
A.
Fantastic update to this park - tough to drag the kids away!!
P.
Best kids Park in Wellington. Water play bouncy play, ropes, miniature railway, scooter skate road sign Park, skate park, swings, poles, climbing frame, see-saws, Lake, ducks, mini golf, tunnels, gardens, walking, jogging, running, biking, skating scooter's, tire climb, flying fox, basically everything your imagination doesn't supply.

Some parts are still under construction (23/5/2019) but this is a great play park - kids train, flying fox, water play, sand play, tunnels, scooter/bike track - you name it, it's got it.
J.
Great combination of adventure and play

C.
Wheelchair friendly, awesome park for the the kids. Has gold coin donation train rides. A hall that’s available for hire and public toilets and picnic tables

Big kids parks awesome, little kids not so, and adults... Uhm. Nothing much other than rip off prices at a Mister Whippy trailer...! Big kids, including this adult at night time once everyone gone, have great fun on big range of climbing, tunneling, sliding, swinging and flying apparatus
R.
Great range of play equipment and nice setting. So many play activities that even though lots of people were there, it didn't feel overcrowded or cramped at all. Mr Whippy was there when we visited. Some water activities for the littlies as well as a flying fox for the biggies
T.
Amazing park. Trampolines. Zip lines. Water features. Climbing. Sliding. Spinning. Everything. Also a great little set of mini roads for kid biking or scooting.

Impressive park, with great options for babies to teens. Some really cool slides, play equipment and a flying fox. Would be nice to have have a bit more shade.

Great playground and mini roadway for kids learning to cycle. Just needs a cafe (more than one caravan with a mile long line).
G.
One of the best open space park with lots of things to do for kids at all ages, but it can be slightly unpleasant during windy day.

Great park for kids. Lots of activities and interactive features. Bike ramps, mini lake, train rides and a bike/scooter park with its own lanes, roundabouts and intersections.
k.
An okay family park the forts have been removed and foot paths have been run through lots of the grass areas to stop you from playing family cricket and volleyball etc otherwise it is no too bad .
T.
Great place for kids of all ages! Vast playground with varying activites for kids to keep them entertained.
B.
Average park. Good for older kids. Children easily lost 🤣 and no fence on toddler park which is a shame.
J.
Does the mini golf still operate
V.
Large play area with various play zones such as water, sand pit, swings, toddler area etc. On Sundays there is a miniature train as well.
N.
Avalon Park is the best park in the Hutt. Not only that but it is still being upgraded. It is going to be amazing when it is fully completed. Always busy when the weather plays ball, but that adds to the fun. :)
