Reviews of Wainuiomata Mountain Bike Park
D.
An awesome day out with family and dogs in a beautiful region. It would be enhanced if the/some of the plentiful picnic tables could be covered to avoid excessive exposure to the sun... a situation that curtailed our visit due to it being a cloudless/stunning day.
T.
Great for running and mountain biking around. However when it's wet, the rocks (that are exposed up on the top of the hills) are extremely slippery. Great views and definitely an awesome challenge. Recommend for people with a moderate level of fitness, however there are some gentle trails by the entrance of Waiu Street. The trails can take you from Wainui to Lower Hutt (via Te Whiti riser). Take your camera on a nice day, there are great views!!
R.
One of the best in the Wellington region. offers the widest range of tracks for small children, family friendly tracks through to grade 5 technical rides. Stunning view from the top and outstanding down hills.. many to choose from.
n.
Was a good ride for a beginner took snail track but thinking it could be wider in some areas
M.
Great park, the volunteers do a great job make fun trails.
A.
Great trails in a handy location. Best ridden when it has been dry for a day or two - can get interesting after a big rain.
J.
Great park. Cool to have something so close to home
N.
Awesome selection of tracks for beginners through to experts, and a bit of a skills area at the start. Usually an awesome bunch of people up on the tracks (bumped into a few fools yesterday, but they were certainly an exception to the rule).
Seems to be bit of work going on with some of the tracks, which had turned into a bit of a mud pit, but am sure that'll be sorted come summer.
Easy access from the park to adjacent fire breaks and loads of other rides. Definitely recommended.
C.
Suitable for all skill levels, easy flow trails for beginners to classic single track for the more advanced rider, heaps of parking, bike wash area and skills area with picnic tables for apre ride refreshments. New tracks being added, with some suitable for shuttling. Five stars.
R.
Great place great tracks fun for all ages
M.
How do you describe awesome in less than 2,000 words ..
M.
Don't bother with Makara- Wainui all the way!
k.
Great tracks very well designed , but some of the maintenance on the tracks is not well thought out making for some interesting corners that I am yet to encounter at any other mountain bike park noted by some people as being bloody awful so I guess the best option is to join their crew and help.
C.
Beautiful tracks, there are a couple not on the maps, but there were some great loop suggestions. Spoonhill tested my skills well!
C.
Incredible great tails great flow super friendly locals some big climbs and gorgeous descents
S.
Been coming here for years, gem of a place. So much hard work has gone in here, and it shows. Some amazing tracks that feel like you are much further in the bush than you actually are. Lots of good tracks, but Freewheel has a bit of everything and amazing views. Much better not the bridge over the road has come in to access Rata Ridge and Super Plus safely. Little bit of something for everyone.
M.
Great mountain bike tracks for kids, and adults from beginners to experts.
J.
Good range of beginner to experienced tracks. Small a play area near car park for kids to play and practice one. Most tracks are well maintained however Spoonhill has extremely deep ruts not suitable for the uncertain and Labyrinth extension has started to show a bit of washboarding. Would recommend Freewheel for the moderately experienced keen for a fast run.
R.
Great variety of trails, awesome bush.
T.
Was great I definitely have the bug now
H.
Biked up to spoon hill hub and came back down 491 only hit one tree on the way down had a great time. Track's are well maintained definitely worth going for a ride there.
p.
Ive hiked through a few of the trails on this park - very pleasant place to hike, albeit the trails are supposed to be for mountain biking so i try to allow bikes right of way. V steep and slippery in places for hiking but still quiet and pleasant. Random benches interspersed through the park which is pleasant. Great views on the ECNZ track over to Wellington Harbour, Petone, Lower Hutt and Wainuiomata valley.
J.
Good tracks, good variety. Some good obstacles to ride over. Some exposed roots making some parts dangerous; but that's mountain biking..
C.
Great ability varying trails . Well sign posted. Great piece of nz bush.
M.
Great afternoon's riding, plenty of trails to keep you entertained for a couple of hours. 491 was my favourite, pretty natural, rooty poppy tech. Would be tough going first up in the wet. Signage is excellent, plus trailforks app and navigation is super easy
M.
Great place to ride.
M.
Good tracks for all abilities.
S.
We come here regularly for adult and family rides. Love it! Great tracks lots of variety
J.
One of the best little collections of trails in the Hutt valley, the Wainui trail project is a great place for a ride. If you've got an hour, or five, there are a bunch of loops that are fun, with a good mixture of flow and tech.
In general, the park trails tend more towards the more intermediate end of the scale, but there's always Rata ridge (off mount Lowry) and Morepork if you need a bit of steep.
J.
Awesome park with a fantstic mountain bike track. Great views all round
K.
Normally used by mountain bikes so have to be on the track early.
E.
A great park for both biking and walking. Because it is behind a hill, there are a lot of spots on trails that never dry out.
C.
