Reviews of Queen Elizabeth Park
S.
Nice place to hang out with family and friends. Only toy train service was not operating. Kids play area is pretty good. Total worth to spend your time.
M.
Lovely park, varied of spaces plus good seating, sun, shade, shelter a selection positioned for all weather not often found in public parks, well done.
And of course a unique urinal from days gone by but maintained well for today's use
N.
Wow took my great grand son Archer to this
wonderful park yesterday. My out of town family were amazed and delighted at the facilities for children. How lucky that our council has provided this for our locals. Well done.
D.
Awesome place for a stroll or across the bridge & see the deer
M.
Nice park to walk your dog's, or let the kids lose in the play ground. You can even sit and watch cricket on the grass or in the cafe. Try a game of mini golf, boat ride and bowls. This park is a good addition to Masterson and if you have kids or a dog a must go to if in the area. Also has a swimming pool opposite the park.
L.
Lots to like for everyone and enough space for all. I love the trees and lake and cemetery and walking the dogs by the river. I also love to see the eels. Good parking and toilets and just by town. Perfect.
V.
Lot of history. Just great to stop and watch the clouds.
M.
Awesome park to walk the kids or the pupper. Visit the peacock in the aviary or take a ride on the train in the middle of the park. Best time to walk the pupper through the park is early morning when the locals are out with their woofs. Friendly, clean and pretty park. Don't forget to bring peas or corn to feed the many many ducks and swans in all the various waterways and ponds that dot the park. Play spot the frog in the wetland walk or feed the friendly eels where they surface for food. Walk down to and follow the river for a longer walk if you please.
C.
My granddaughter came off the slide and said "This is awesome!" and I would agree - lots of variety and plenty of space. An hour passed much too quickly
D.
Absolutely fantastic park. When it's in season the boat rides are there and the train ride. Really worth stoping there for the kids. Even just for the climbing part.
K.
Thank goodness for this park. Brilliant place to stop while driving up or down the lower north island. The kids love the mini train and pedalows. The playground and mini golf look good too. There are clean toilets, and a New World and cafe across the road.
N.
Great park with so much on offer, from a awesome kids playground to skateboarding bowls & street park. Bird aviary, duck ponds, deer park across swing bridge, mini golf $8 adults, $5 kids, miniature train rides for $1. Nice to walk around everything as a lot to see & do, great for kids & even adults.
J.
Great place for kids to be play and spend some time outdoors. This playarea is awesome. My kids loved it.
S.
What a great place. So many things to do. A skate park, paddle boats mini golf to name a few. Plus a lovely Cafe. I wish Auckland had places like this.
B.
A very nice park. Trains, boats, deer, suspension bridge - it has it all. Great place to take your grandies!
D.
Great for families.
Enjoyed the beautiful park and lake.
WOW so many eels in the water.
S.
What a charming place! It's definitely worth two-hours trip from Welly. All ages and shapes could find the favourite spot there: wooden extra-large kids ground, mini-train for a gold coin, mini-golf and croquet, rowing on boats and 'swans', a rope dancing bridge, picnic areas, deers, eels, real black swans and ducks, 150 y.o. sequoias and plenty of flowers. There is a swimming pool just across the road.
E.
Wonderful place to walk around or spend time with family /friends. Fun playground for kids. Bathrooms clean and tidy. Decent amount of parking.
M.
Large expanse of things to see and do 🥰 the swing bridge to feed the deer, followed by a fun milkshake at Cocos Desert Bar is always a great time.
L.
Fabulous, all the different areas to see, the lovely lake setting with seating scattered around the place, the golf to play, crochet if you choose something different, just wander the gardens, swings, flash new skate board arena for the young and even older people to skate on,big area to watch cricket in the summer, the birds, go across a big swing bridge and see the other animals, deer, etc, ride the train around the tracks, row in the boats, walk under the beautiful old fur trees planted back in the 1820s amazing, that really took my fancy, they are a real incredible site to see, after doing all of that go and have something nice to eat at the cafe, looking out at the beautiful park, it is lovely, see this place for yourself, there is somethink for every body, worth a trip over the rangers to visit.
Thankyou Louise.
N.
Brought back happy memories of taking my son's there.. Lovely park
Z.
Nice area, good facilities, kids loved the playground, toilets, minigolf, flowers, paddle boating, ev charging, lawn areas, impressive trees, train, so much to explore!
c.
Awesome place for kids and adults. Duckies, swans and deers are perfect for all the age groups. Mini golf is a good entertainment to spend time.
A.
So much to do. It has a beautiful woodstained playground, you can feed deer for a $1, ride on a minature train also for a $1 and they have paddle boats. Cash is required for the train. Maize to feed the deer is available for purchase at the paddleboat shed, eftpos available. I have given this park 4 stars because the toilets dont smell very nice.
J.
In March 2021 we visited here in a group of adults and young people and we had a great experience. The park is well organised and has plenty of activities to do. The lake is very scenic and the whole area is really well presented and looked after. There is a great walking track which is very interesting and unique. The mini put was looked very appealing. Local cafes and amenities are nearby. This is a great place to spend the day.
R.
Beautiful park, and the most amazing playground I have ever seen.
r.
So much to do! Park, slides, swans, ducks, train ride, reindeer and river to name a few. The only thing I would change would be to put up proper fencing instead of a chain link at the new kids scooter park.
C.
Lovely park, enjoyed our walk around and stopped for coffee at the Cafe.
G.
My very mediocre pics serve this park absolutely no justice! (the ones of Autumn aren't mine).
The jewel in Masterton's crown with so much to offer. From one of the most picturesque village cricket ovals in Aotearoa, to a lovely wee minature train which ambles around its own private island. As well, there are boats for hire on the lake, a skate park for the older kids, mini putt with bikes for hire, and wee motorised cars for the littlies.
Yet the pièce de résistance is the kids playground which the entire community built with aroha [love], & in less than a week! It has received international acclaim, and we get many out of town visitors that come specifically for it! Come and visit NZ's most beautiful city and its most beautiful asset. You won't be disappointed... 😃
G.
Masterton's Queen Elizabeth II Park is without a doubt the loveliest park I have come across...ever! It has sooooo many nice spots that you'll need a few hours to see just even of them, along with a myriad of activities for everyone to have a go at like; mini golf, bike hire, miniature motorised cars, pedal boats, bike trails, a deer park, a miniature train with a real tunnel (local rules dictate you MUST scream as loud as you can whilst in it!), and a world renowned kids playground that has to be seen to be believed (and it doesn't matter how old you are, you'll eventually find yaself playing in it somewhere!).
There is also a very picturesque cricket oval in the middle of the park, it includes a lovely old grandstand, which has a very real village green feel about it. The late and great Mr Martin Crowe used to say it was his most favourite ground in New Zealand to play at...perhaps not on, but certainly at. Thanks Marty :)
S.
Awesome park. Lots for all ages of children to play. Make sure you find time to feed the ducks and deer!
M.
New to the area and had to stop here with my daughter and her cousin, they loved it has a flying fox, nice big park, and a nice little place to go for a walk or sit on the benches in the sun and watch the birds
Will definitely come back here.
D.
The improvements in the park are certainly great and the current flower planting by the Hosking Garden is so colourful.
R.
Great playground for all age kids. And beautiful gardens and pond to enjoy the ducks and swans and trees for shade
M.
Our 6 year old grandkids absolutely loved the playground, especially the fact that it is made out of wood - a point of difference!
A.
Amazing light display. Looking forward to the next year one

N.
Stunning park, beautiful mature trees, tranquil lake, picnickers peace and serenity Love it
A.
Beautifully man made park to see ducks and geese. Some walking tracks and a skate bowl. Great place if you have children (or consider yourself a youngling at heart) wjth a play ground, mini golf and a mini train. Even a cafe called CoCos. But my favorite thing is definitely just surrounding myself in the nature.
J.
I've lived here all my life & have never seen the park do well kept & beautiful as it is now.. love it
P.

Beautiful big park, perfect for having a day out with family.
It has got a kids play area, boating in the lake there, few animals to see and big play grounds.
Additionally a cafe and some food carts also there if you wish to have food and snacks from outdoors.
Last but not least, it's near to city market so we can grab a necessity from there if we need.
W.
Peaceful Great place to sit with coffee and people watch
K.
Beautiful park. So much going on. You can hire boats on the lake, which has a island in the middle of it. And island has a miniature train running around the edge of the island. Great playground. Bird aviary with a peacock.

P.

T.
Awesome extensive wooden fort with adjoining flying fox, hamster wheel, gondola swing and a bunch of extra features like musical installations. Great condition, well looked after. Go here.
K.
Fabulous park with so many options for walks and other things to do. Get coffee at the Cafe in the park. Don't get coffee from cafe across the road, they charge 40c for a takeaway cardboard cup and coffee not so nice. Great takeaway sandwiches etc at New World, kiosk just inside their store entrance.
M.
Great place for walking and exercise in beautiful surroundings. Complimented by playgrounds and other activities for the younger ages.
r.
Awesome playground especially for my 2yo most parks are best suited for older children but was very impressed with adventure play growing heaps of places for my boy to run around and enjoy.
He loved the train ride too and all the walkways, lake/moat. Awesome stuff Masterton
K.
Byo our lunch sat under trees lovely spot
R.
Great little park for the kids to run around
A.
So beautiful and something here for everyone. We had a great family time. We went on the miniature train which at $1.00 each was well worth it. No eftpos though.
The Paddle boats were fun but they are disorganised and it was frustrating to see families arriving after us get boats before us as they had forgotten us. The staff were apologetic but the manager seemed to have no system in place.
We had afternoon tea in the cafe in the park which was great, friendly fast service and good food.
C.
Great Park for kids and adults, clean and pretty
D.
Always a popular stop in Masterton with lots of things to do and an excellent kids environmental focus. The playground is something else!

Oh my where do I start. There is always something to do in this park my recent visits included a yoga session under the giant historic Redwoods it was a perfect day so I walked through the park admiringly looking up at the diversity of exotic trees. The cafe in the park called Cocos (built in 1912 as a tearooms and was known as Coronation Hall to commemorate the coronation of King George V) is well worth a visit where you can drink your Latte and watch both adults and children paddle a giant Swan around the 'lake of remembrance' all the while a miniature train circles on an island. There are real swans aswell a short walk and you will find most at Henley Lake. If you stop in at the isite there is a map of the historic trees. As you cross back into the part directly opposite the isite you will see the restored urinal, Yes you heard me right but this is so cool you just have to see it! Also next to this are the Hosking sunken gardens always fun to look at with its floriforous plantings ( originally the Christina and Alice Hosking Baths) you may want to picnic in the park New World is directly across the road they serve excellent takeout coffee and food looks delish. For the children there is a great playground also mini ⛳. I could go on and on but I'll stop here and say my last two words 'Deer', 'Eels'
S.
Great place to walk round, or just sit down and look and listen to the sounds around. They have a great lake with pedal boats, a ride on train, sports stadium, as well as a bowls club. You can feed the ducks, swans and other birds. At the front of the park there is a playground for the kids, good size grass area for kicking balls, mini golf and a flying fox. Just over a bridge there are some dear.
A.
Great gathering place families to get some outside time. Good playground, mini golf and miniature railway. Lake walk great off-leash exercise area for the family dog.
R.
Wonderful place for all people. Great for kids, with the amazing playground, flying fox, mini train, waterfowl to feed (remember not with bread, use bird pellets, frozen peas, corn etc), paddling boats and a fantastic wheel circuit for bikes and scooters etc, plus the walkway around the outside of the lake. Only thing missing was a drink & ice-cream cart :)
J.
Very well made for all ages experience for the kids will be memorized with the many levels and maze like play with the room for a very full day to picnic play an walk with surroundings of great trees standing front of cafes bowls by lake or the path heading toward averys or the pools across the road and the skate park is all about safe play and love from rhe city for the city
L.
An absolute rippa of a venue. Your kids will spends hours in the sprawling playground beaming with smiles. Be aware they may not want to leave. Kid free?,You can also wander the mature gardens taking in the sights. A mix of garden walkways and open areas make this park a must visit for all ages.
J.
A great park for all.

There is so much to do there. Feed the ducks and deer, hire a peddle boat and go around the lake, or have a ride on the miniature train.
A great place for families with young children, as there is a skateboard park, fabulous playground and mini golf. Plenty of picnic tables makes the park a great place to spend a couple of hours. The pool complex is across the road, too.
T.
This park is just a short walk from the main buisness part of Masterton and it provides an oasis of sanity for me. The trees are magnificent and the gardens wonderfuli
D.
Beautiful, green park with a huge playground area for the little ones. Big ones will have fun on the flying fox, roller and giant swing too. So many activities to try around the lake: pedal boats, electric cars for kids, miniature trains. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Masterton.
T.
Beautiful in Autumn. This park has been well kept for decades.
A.
A really cool park with lots of cherry blossom trees, good for families with the playground, a skatepark, a Avery, a river with ducks and swans, and some may say a nostalgic swing bridge. Definitely a highlight of Masterton.
K.
Loved this place!! Amazing playground for children. A train for children and adults to ride on for $1. Paddle boats for hire at reasonable rates. A lot of picnic tables scattered throughout the grounds to enjoy a picnic with family!!
T.
Fantastic duck collection. Haven't had a single kid get covid from the playground equipment. Redwoods that wood make make tane mahuta insecure. (See what I did there)
E.
really were impressed. there is a lot more than just a playground for kids. take the time to walk or ride around. the train ride is only a $1. the paddle boats are just $14 for 20mins.
we read about the deer. we will go back hire bikes and see if we can find deer farm.
H.
This awesome playground and parklands is definitely worth checking out. As well as the great wooden playground itself, which has multiple levels and activities included, the park also has its own railway with a very reasonably priced ($1 for three circuits) ride-on train that goes around its very own island. There is also extra play equipment, including a great flying fox. Also including in park area is a deer park and other areas to explore. You can also play mini-golf (for a price) on their mini-put course. If you are traveling through the Waiarapa with you kids this is a great place for a break with your kids. Highly recommended.
R.
Fun place for kids to play.
e.
Great place to take kids for the day. Lots to do and see from animals to a really well equipped playground for all ages. You can easily spend an entire day there so take a picnic
C.
Fantastic play area for kids. Boating, mini golf, train rides, a Deer Park, some beautiful scenery and you could even feed the eels in the water next to the kids zone. Well placed for a run around either before or after a swim as the public pool is across the road. One of the Wairarapa's gems.
C.
Such a beautiful place to visit!! We took a day trip over from Wellington and spent the whole day at the park, there is something for everyone. The park is so clean and well maintained. Paddle boats are a must!
D.
Love this place, the grounds are well maintained and there is so much to do here.
A skate park, a miniature train, an amazing playground, putt putt mini golf, a fernery and an aviary, a deer park across the bridge and a bmx track behind that to name a few things. Plus you can walk along the river and it joins up with Henley lake so plenty of paths for walking, running or biking!!
G.
A great place for kids to explore and enjoy. A good walk around or boat paddle on a nice day while waiting for the car to charge.
R.
Lovely park. The walk around the lake with the paddle boats is very relaxing. Then there is also the mini golf and the croquet lawn as wel as the cricket pitch and the lawn bolws green. Children are catered for with a playground with a zip line
A.
One of the best playgrounds I've been to. My 2yr old neice was going nuts in and out of the new structures exploring and finding things, our parents use to take us here to the duckie pond and minitrain I'm so glad it's still around making children happy to this day. There's parking and a cafe opposite 😊
B.
Good playground for kids a couple of items have been removed ( tractors) which had been there for many years
The kids miss these only one or two people thought they were unsafe
M.
Fantastic park and very clean. Love the flying fox!
P.
Fantastic park. Has everything a kid would need. A great wooden Castle play area, paddle boats, ride on train, it's amazing. There is also a nice flower garden to look at to.

Very cool park. Mini train, row boats, paddle boats and children's motorised cars, aviary with gorgeous peacock and other birds. This combined beautiful grounds for a lovely stroll.
J.
Amazing park! It truely has everything, a lake with ducks and swans, a giant wooden playground with a flying fox and mouse wheel, it has a mini deer park, an aviary and a fernary. It also is located right next to the skate park and the town pools. Honestly almost the perfect park.👍
B.
Awesome place for the kids. Playgrounds for different ages. Awesome safe fenced play area. Cool train for the kids. Awesome pond to feed all the ducks. Great place. Big fields to play. Water activities. Really great place for families to spend time.
L.

J.
Real cool saw steam train.
E.
Nice park. Relaxing atmosphere nice lake and riverside walk. Good playground for kids
E.
Slow service, not all meals came together, finished out meals before our drinks came and we only ordered juice. Thought it was a little odd that the chef was delivering food to the tables. Nice mochas and breakfasts. A little more hollandaise needed.
T.
Very cool park.
T.
Fantastic being away from the hustle and bustle.
J.

A.
We spent yesterday afternoon in Queen Elizabeth Park at Masterton, enjoyed the paddle boats on the lake, then on to the children's playground... what a wonderful place for children to spend time... fantastic, I know the history of the building of the complex, children said what they wanted... only way to get a good place for them, let them decide what they want... my granddaughter is 4 years old. great afternoon had by all thank you.
100%!
w.
Kids have fun here train rides and can hire boats to paddle around the lake
T.
Really amazing park. It has an awesome wooden playground, minature train, swan boats, bird house and more. Strongly Recommend stopping if you are passing through but we didn't really have enough time to explore it all. Will definitely be coming back.
R.
Great place for young kids. Lots of options including feeding acorns to the deer across the bridge and a great flying fox
C.
Wonderful park, great playgrounds, great walking areas.
The trees and the lake take this park to the next level!!
A.
Queen Elizabeth Park in Masterton is a stunning civic facility. Such a beautiful place with so many things to do, especially for families and kids. A brilliant playground, mini golf, croquet, a lovely cricket ground, a miniature railway, huge redwood trees, places to wander, a zipline and much more . All well maintained and beautifully landscaped. An absolute treasure in a small town.
F.
Entice Cafe has lovely and friendly staff. Love the Iced Chocolate.
A stroll around Queen Elizabeith park was great. Nice to sit beneath trees for shade away from scorching sun at 32 degrees! Deer park to view the animals was deightful up close! Great day out!
D.
Great spot to wander around. The model train rides (weekends, public & school holidays) don't break the bank at $1 per person.
There's a good range of climbing & play equipment at the playground. There's also a flying fox that smaller kids (<7) will need some help with but bigger kids will love.
Even if you don't want to go in the rowboat or paddle boat on the lake, visit the shop there for some corn to feed the deer across the suspension bridge (ask for directions as it can be hidden from some angles).
R.
It certainly is a great spot. Nice gardens etc with an amazing playground
V.
Best Park for children and the pools are just over the road.
N.
Pretty amazing place to spend the afternoon with the kids. From a playground (for all ages), miniature train, and boat rides, mountain bike track to feeding deer(!) - this place has it all
A.
Love the ducks and swans, shame though they have sparrows in a cage. They see the other sparrows free on the outside and you can tell they are terrified. It never used to be like that.
N.
Great park for a walk, fabulous playground. Children's train on the weekend, a lake with paddle boats, and plenty of trees and flat ground.
P.
A hidden gem, I've been going to Masterton for years and never knew about this place. Took my 5 and 7 year old grandsons and they loved it, so much to do there
H.
Great park and area. Lovely gardens and cute wee train. Nice shady areas as well.
P.
Good spot to stop off on your journey. Children's play area. Toilets. Mini golf. Around the lake are picnic tables. Take some bread for the 100s of ducks
T.
Great place for the whole family, with a variety of things to do and see, reasonable free parking available.
L.
You like quiet restful parks? Then this is the place for you, paddle boats, cricket, boules, fine trees, waterfowl, fantastic child's playground, and fine dining, all in the centre of the town voted NZs most beautiful in 2017.
A.
Beautiful gardens and tall trees in a Victorian style park. Includes a dam with ducks and swans, mini train for children and the most awesome playground. Also home to the cricket oval and croquet club.
C.
Saw some nice perch in the lake I wonder if you're allowed to fish here? I do practice catch and release did not see any signs of no fishing as well. If anyone knows a little bit more let us know.
s.
A lot of work at present..Higgins workers are doing a great job doing the pathways around the lake etc..
Once the work is completed, and the grass has grown also, I think its going to look absolutely stunning!!
m.
I have always, for 40 years now, loved this park. Wonder about ongoing management and the idea of growing a food forest or at least replacing trees that need to be culled for whatever reason with walnut and other suitable nut trees and natives.
P.
Awsome place for a family day out , huge play ground for the kids pools just across the road , an island with a ride on train for only a $1, bikes for hire , mini gulf , ride on boats around the lake , picnic areas , skate park , swing bridge that leads to a deer farm that you can feed aswell as a bmx track . So much to do all in this one area even walk , jog , bike around the park , a bird enclosure with peacocks , doves , rabbits , an so many othee different birds
A.
Giant and lovely, tons of benches but couldn't find a picnic table for lunch (just bring a picnic blanket), ended up sitting on a giant stump in a gazebo with cool timeline on the walls, nice bathrooms including a unique antique outdoor urinal, looked like a very well maintained children's play area and there is a mini golf among other activities
B.
Great place to relax and feed the ducks or go for a paddle boat or kayak trip around the lake or go for a miniature train ride, play mini golf, take the children to the children's playground or skateboard park or go to the athletic park across the swing bridge or opposite the athletic park is a deer park back across the swing bridge to the main there are many pathways to walk around the park gardens visit the bird aviary. THE ONLY DOWNSIDE OF THIS PARK IS THERE IS NOT ENOUGH TOILETS THEY ONLY HAVE ONE SMART TOILET AND A MEN'S VINTAGE STYLE URINAL.
A.
Lovely place a picnic
G.
Just another great place nz is full of places like this soooooo lucky.
J.
Nice park, cool gardens and activities all around.
H.
Well maintained (No rubbish), a massive playground for children that includes a large flying fox. Nearby is the well sized skate park with a small basketball just behind that. Also near the playground is an island with a small train ride that does a several circuits of the island. Behind the island is a storage shed where you can hire several paddle boats and kayaks/canoe. In the center of the park area is a large oval that is often used for sports related activities.
B.
Great park to take your young ones throughout the day. Can be full of riffraff at night.
S.
Great place to stop for lunch under the trees, good for kids to, plenty of free off street parking.

G.
Excellent service had breakfast which was served hot and delicious and we did not wait too long to be served at out table as well clean and tidy facilities and plenty of car parking available
K.
This park is well above average public amenity for the size of a town such as Masterton. As well as well appointed childrens playground, it has a lake with an island and boats for hire. The island has a miniture railway. There is also a cricket ground surrounded by tall trees, a golf putting course which also hires out bikes. There is a suspension bridge, which leads to a deer park with two species of deer and an athletics track.
D.
