D.Haven't been to the movies in years, no major changes that I could see. We went in the middle of the day so there wasn't much atmosphere, but all in all it's a nice comfortable venue. Not sure why they have the volume set to 1000 all the time though, it is ridiculously loud. I don't mind it so much but If I hadn't brought my noise canceling headphones for our 5 year old I don't believe he would have tolerated it. Turn it down a bit.
N.My wife and I used to visit two or three times a week but with cellphone usage by arses in the theatre we gave up. Just go when we feel a movie requires a big screen and surround sound. It's been awhile but we thoroughly enjoyed our experience viewing Maverick, Topgun. 💥💥💥💯😇
R.The cinema seems way too hot at the beginning of every movie. Makes you feel sick if you don't have anything to drink. Paperbags are being used for popcorn and it makes heaps of noise during screening if everyone is eating. Can't book tickets in advance unless it's a first screening of a new film.
V.Good cinema. Move was very good. Price of snacks not as bad as I wad expecting

J.Nice place to watch the latest movies. Although on our last visit the sound was way too loud. I’ve always found staff to be friendly. They offer a discount on Tuesdays, there’s a Mums & Bubs movie once a month and there’s a ladies night with a movie and bubbles as well! There’s s Pizza restaurant within and yummy popcorn and snack options. If you’ve got time to kill before your movie there’s also a games room below. The Cinema Is in a great location in the heart of Nelson City, close to everything.

S.Went to Stephanos pizza for dinner before the movie. They messed up with the order because the waiter miss heard what we wanted. They made us the correct one immediately which we finished and we were still in time to see James Bond without rushing our food down. Thanks Stephanos.

N.We don't go often... as it is an experience that we think shoukd be seen for particular movies. The sound is a bit over the top. The experience (vibration and big screen) makes it feel you are in the movie. Not very busy at the times we go. The seats are dirty with black marks.... almost a dirty feeling. They shoukd clean their seats.
M.Great small town cinema, comfortable seating and great friendly service. Also, they have Stefano's Pizza on site for a pre-movie dinner - you can even get a glass of wine to take into the movie with you.

A.Great little cinema and have been going for years. But now I can buy vouchers for tickets via Vodafone Rewards but I still have to queue to choose my seats. At other cinemas for example in Wellington, you are able to select your seat in the booking process. Would be nice to be able to do the same at my local cinema when using the Vodafone Rewards system.
M.Great Cinema Complex , Nice New Toilets just completed and they're on the lower level with easy access for Wheelchair Toilets. There are a couple of stairs to go down to the others. Great Staff , Yummy Popcorn and Ice creams.

Staff pumped as there had been a fire alarm with the previous sittings. But they were on2it. Crazy for them, but they were real pro's.

T.Friendly local cinema, not a big chain cinema. Prices are reasonable with discounts for students and pensioners. Shows arthouse films as well as mainstream.
L.The state cinema is a great cinema. There are a bunch of cinemas ranging from big to small and the sound is good. The seats are incredibly comfy and have cup holders. The screens are good and large (depending on which cinema).the staff are very friendly and want to make your experience great. The prices of movies are average and food prices are average for cinema snacks, there are a lot of choices of snacks. The Stefano's pizza above is incredibly good. Overall a great cinema 10/10 would recommend
B.If you are an out of towner like us you'll love this place for movies dinner or arcade games. Coming from Auckland we're used to a busy or packed cinema so experiencing a quiet and small theatre was nice for once. The movie we watched only had about 10 or less people in it and parking is off street, I believe free after a set time so it's a bonus!

P.Great little cinema complex in Nelson. There's a bunch of cinemas and a cafe/restaurant all together. We saw an old horror flick on Halloween which was very cool. It was clean and tidy with quirky decoration for Halloween which added to the night. Staff were very friendly and welcoming.

Ticket prices are OK, but the food is quite pricey. Pizza and bar restaurant upstairs. All in all, a quaint wee cinema complex.
M.Nice cafe upstairs...which has no signage downstairs...so we walked ages for a cold drink. Very comfy seats. A large bug on the screen. The recording of film faltered several times at the beginning. But apart from tbat very good!

H.Walked in to a massive que, but quickly discovered their self service kiosk, which was brilliant and quick, as all we were wanting was tickets. The theater got hot and uncomfortable towards the end of the movie, but it was sold out, and after advising them, they are looking into the issue. Other than that, really good experience!
I.It's a fearly good cinema. I was on theater 4 it has really good seats, good audio, the screen it's small but sharp and curved. You can buy drinks, pop and all that nonsense. 10 dollars the large combo. 17 the ticket. 3 stars because compared with other cinemas its small and not to impressive.

L.I liked being able to type in reference number at a screen and tickets printed if you had prebooked, saving having to queue and wait for a customer/ ticket service. Range of films. On a wet holiday day very busy and more serving stations for popcorn and drinks would have been good. Women's toilets way too few although there are more accessed through the cafe.
W.A great range of movies, good snacks for the movies and very friendly staff who are always very helpful. The cinema is always very clean and well maintained. But a little overpriced.
J.Went to see Rogue One. Good size screen with good quality picture and sound, also had comfortable chairs. No problem with keeping cool however there was only another 5 people in the room, so I can't comment of what it will be like when it is full. Had to pick a seat which isn't my thing, prefer a first come first serve basis.
I.I loved it. I haven't been arround a lot of cinemas in New Zealand so i can't compare it locally but generally it is just a great cinema. Watched 'Joker' (awesome movie btw). Very comfy seats. I don't know what else to say, it's a cinema.

P.Nice place, great booking system, elevated ticket prices but atleast popcorn is reasonable though. You need to improve toliet facilities though! A single male toliet is not acceptable for such a large place!!!
M.I go here regularly. Staff is always friendly. The Restaurant is pricey, but for the food you get its totally worth every penny! Over all just a great place with a great atmosphere. 100% recommend it!

H.This is the most authentic pizza I have tried in New Zealand. The base is thin and crispy. They use great quality ingredients for toppings and they serve them abundantly and in the right balance and perfectly seasoned. I was born in a country with a huge Italian colony, and Stefano's Pizzeria reminded me of those little pizza restaurants in my city run by an Italian family where you knew you will always get a massive serve, with abundant toppings and abundant and great tasting cheese, and proudly homemade pizza base and tomato sauce. The pizzas in Stefano's are simple and with that taste of homemade with love, as a perfect pizza is suppose to be.

M.I made a mistake with my original review. Sorry everyone at State Cinema. It was my lack of skill with the Google Maps reviews. I think you rock and always look forward to being carried away to another place and time when I come to see a well chosen movie! Had a great lunch recently at the cafe , a pizza pocket stuffed with artichokes and mozzarella cheese yum. Then that night I was back to see Oceans 8. Loved the new theatre perfect size for a social club function 😁😁😁
A.Staff is nice and friendly. Popcorn is pretty good. Although food prices are quite expensive and still rising. Nice maintained cinemas, very comfortable and clean. Good quality in general. Overall a pretty good place.
j.Had great time seats very comfortable and nice man gave us free refill when we drop our full drink. but gaming room gone is sad and a spider keep crawling across projector which was distracting from movies
M.The lines can be pretty full at times with not even enough room to walk through without being a little pushy. Some times it's fine but more then not the line is huge before a screening. Everything is well maintained.
D.I like the small cinemas as it's quite cosy. But they kicked up such a fuss that I bought in some candy floss from next door. As a vegan, if they don't sell anything I can have at the cinema, why am I not allowed to bring in something I can have?

K.Clean, tidy, well presented cinema, with helpful, and friendly staff. Went to see a 3D film, unfortunately the first 7 min of the film was out of focus and had to find an usher to alert the projectionist. Problem was rectified promptly.

M.I booked online for a movie and it was really really simple. They have a separate desk for online ticketing and just prints the ticket right out. Place was clean and excellent.
A.Well priced popcorn and drink, cinema is great. There was no aircon, and it got uncomfortably hot. Found it hard to focus on the movie it was so hot. Might of just been a temporary thing.
B.The guy came me change from when I paid $20. I thought that twenty would cover my drink and movie instead of me paying 3.50 after for my drink. He gave me change to do that. I'd dint ask for that.
G.A great facility. Plenty of parking nearby. I really appreciate being able to buy tickets online and pick up tickets without needing to queue.

W.Well considering that it's the ONLY cinema in town you're not spoilt for choice. Saying that, it's great to see a concerted effort to make the experience as enjoyable as possible. Not only that they are always up to date with the latest releases.

P.They have a monopoly here in Nelson but they don't let it get to their head. Go early and grab a pizza and craft beer on site and you'll have a good night out.

A.Please go see Bohemian Rhapsody. I saw it yesterday and was taken into that place where you get lost for 2 1/2 hours of pure entertainment. A must see.
