Love this gardens park. 😃 Lots to see and a lovely bush walk that leads to bridges. Bonus it's dog friendly too. The sound shell was nice and had someone on a saxaphone playing was nice while we ate lunch. Would recommend going here if you like gardens and bush walks, has a small inner city zoo here also.

Amazing park! Lots of beautiful flowers and forest, lovely greenhouses you can walk through and also a 2000 year old Puriri tree!

Amazing place in the centre of town, beautiful walks alongside the lake. The waterfall was a cool surprise.The bowl is perfect for concerts. Will be back to visit the zoo in the near future.

Went here on a rainy day but still loved it! Beautiful walk, lots to see & really peaceful experience. Well maintained & close to city centre. Highly recommended.

One of my favorite places. A beautiful stroll around the lake or a walk up to brooklands zoo. It's a non smoking and non cycling park. There is a small bus that will Take you around if you are not able.

A must do if ever in New Plymouth. The park is stunning of what I managed to get around.

What a Stunning nature walk. Highly recommended. The bird life is beautiful here and every track is well signposted. So easy to feel at peace here with a good number of benches to chill at along the way. New Plymouth residents can be very proud of their beautiful park.

Very beautiful park with lots of tracks that you can do. Many activities such as cycling, walking, hiking, etc as well. There is a nice cafe, too. My favorite spot was the greenhouse, which had a variety of plants and flowers. Absolutely beautiful and very sweet smelling inside!

This place is really beautiful, clean and green, good walkway, and my kids enjoyed the mini zoo.

Quintessentially the park of parks. Walks, sports, natives, exotics, surprises and peace and quiet, then at the extreme end Bowl of Brooklyn entertainment sound shell in open air setting.......many entrances, 100s of car parks, amenities and facilities but nothing obtrusive..

A must to vist and take a long relaxing walk around.

Awesome park! Lovely walks and a nice fun playground, waterfall activated by button and restaurant. You can hire a boat for $15 and row through the pond. Also was a fresh fruit icecream stand as well as a restaurant and iceblock section at the restaurant.

Great scenic Park Bush walks and bird wildlife You can spend several hours here just walking the many tracks that wander around the bush and lake areas A credit to the people, business's and Council of New Plymouth in having a world class asset

We enjoyed the walk. There is so much to see. Love the Cafe inside the park as well. Love the food. Thank you. Our family is grateful for the experience.

If you are looking for a bush walk this is the one. Lots to see with walkways everywhere, crossing bridges over ponds and creeks. They even have a waterfall with lights on it at night. Very spectacular. Oh and I stooped at the tea rooms and had the nicest Kapiti ice cream - 2 big scoops for $6.50 yum

This park has so much to offer, spent few hrs walking around exploring all that was on offer. The beautiful water features and can be switched on via a control button, to the beautiful green houses, the open spaces host events I’m told, festival of the lights and live performances. Annoy wait to return in August 2021

Must visit place, loved the great walks with the family, suitable for strollers. Some very special trees, great playground for the kids and picnic areas.

I find different walkways every time I visit the park. Nice little hidden away spots

What a fantastic park, lots for all the family, great walks under the trees, row boats on the lake, great tea rooms with food and ice cream in a great setting by the lake. The fern house behind the tea rooms is must if you are a gardener, not just ferns there as masses of flowers and tropical plants in well laid out hot houses. An absolut credit to the garden staff and the council.

Always an interesting day out. A tour, a play at the fantastic children's corner, and lunch at the kiosk, with our grandchild (3). He thought it was great fun.

What an amazing place to visit. Do allow for a few hours. I called in for a look, the wow factor got me, left after 4hrs and I sure I didn't see everything. Very family friendly, the management could do more for the disabled whanau to ensure better access everywhere. Mauri ora

Absolutely loved it. We enjoyed wandering all over the park in the early evening. Very peaceful and relaxing. Recommended.

If you visit New Plymouth without wandering around Pukekura Park, you have seriously short-changed yourself. No matter the weather, it is such a beautiful place and the city has so much to be thankful for. I connects to Brooklands which also has much to be seen. There are plenty of interesting information boards as well as play areas, a big concert bowl, beautiful lakes with bridges, a gorgeous Tea House with views of Mt Egmont. The Fernery and Display Houses are amazing - much more than a fernery. The staff there are very friendly and informative.

A credit to the city, well laid out and maintained, enjoyed our visit.

An easy walk or bike, good for pushchairs or wheelchairs too..really well cared for and has some spectacular mature native trees, flowering plants and blossom trees in season. Walk through your Brooklands Bowl and up the hill to the Brooklands zoo and extended gardens. There's an ice cream or hot coffee etc at the kiosk as a reward for your efforts. Dogs ok on a lead.

Not so hidden and not so unknown, but a must to go see. If there are festivals on like the lights or womad... The park is a busy place. The iconic tea house has that Instagram shot you need...

One of the best yet underrated parks in New Zealand. Definitely worth a visit if you are not from New Plymouth.

Went to the FOL2021 What a lovely place for a night walk. Busy with excited children and happy parents. All ages were enjoying the evening. Found the giant that used to reside in the trees maybe 20yrs ago..

Beautiful ground framed by a gorgeous entryway. Also the gateway to the lovely gardens, extensive kids playground and a quaint tea house

Beautiful and tranquil Park. The waterfall is a short distance from the main lake, and the teahouse by the lake is a lovely sight. A great place to jog or walk your pets. The bowl lawn is good for picnic gatherings. Plenty of parking available.

Such a beautiful park to walk around. My 1 complaint is the lack of rubbish bins And unfortunately there is a number of lazy people who just throw their rubbish on the ground but it a park the people of Taranaki people should be proud of

Beautiful park, quiet oasis in the middle of town. There is lots to do here in the summer, yet there are still plenty of quiet moments and corners to be found. The cafe serves good coffee and decent food.

Pikekura Park, New Zealand has the festival of lights with live music and performances till 10pm in the evening..One of the most spectacular lighting displays at different locations which everyone from kids to adults enjoy. Food stalls cater for the hungry and to digest the food walks around the park..it's all fun and happening this time of the year. We had a good time and was fun.

Very friendly kid and adult atmosphere. Lots of ducks and occasional Swan hanging around. Coffee tasty too

Just a wonderful place to be. Great paths and trails throughout the park and the festival of lights was a real highlight. Definitely worth a trip to, can't recommend it enough such a nice place. You can even rent a rowing boat on the lake.

Most amazing place. Good size clean lake and beatififul waterfall. Nice little walkway around the lake and the forest.

Have been going to the FOL (Festival of Lights) for 33 years now, (I'm now 38) It has definitely come along way since then. Still an enjoyable night out and I like that they bring in new/different lights so every year there is always something new/different to spot.

Park was perfect for a day of rain and shine. We walked in from a choice of several locations that had easy parking and or interesting walks in . We meet up for lunch at the cafe by the lake. We had a talk from the friends of Pukekura Park about the park. We could have had a ride for only 5 dollars but wanted a walk . Lots of variety. It is where Womad festival is held The photos show the variety found there. Pleasant afternoon and good playground for children and light shows every evening in summer. You can start waterfall if you want for free.

Perfect place for a lovely relaxing walk - especially on a lovely sunny day. You can walk all the way to Bowl of Brooklands and the free zoo up above that, and back to the park entrance easily, with a place to stop for coffee and a snack on the way.

We attended the light show. It was spectacular. So sad we didn't have time to visit the park during the day. We hope to return soon.

The park is beautiful during the day (and contains Brooklands Zoo) and stunning at night during the festival of lights. An amazing night. Recommend hiring a boat (after dark) and having a row in the lake as another perspective of the lights and it's just good fun!

Beautiful park with loads of natural NZ bushland, as well as some nicely cultivated green spaces. Tea rooms were good too, with a view down the "pond" to Taranaki. Great coffee there too.

Always nice place to go for a peaceful walk ....but would be nice if they kept the festival of lights going through to Feb instead of ending at the end of Jan....but still a lovely walk

Beautiful park, Cafe needs to have more options...toasted sandwich options, simple hit foods sausages, American hot dogs, sugar free options also...

This is an amazing calm and cool park. I simply love it. I would recommend this place for picnics, events and fun games. The most attractive places in the park are the pond and waterfall. In summers even you can visit this place till late night. The lighting of this natural and wildlife like place looks great in night time.

Great park for a walk. Close to the town. Nice Cafe serves a good coffee and nice cakes, snacks or a full all day breakfast if your hungry. Come in the evening in January and see the fantastic light show.

A great park to walk through, catch a game of cricket or listen to music. Went for the light festival and it was great. Well worth a visit.

A very lovely park having features not seen in any other parks. It’s more educational park and children loves science must required to visit. It’s must visit place in New Plymouth Taranaki area. The lake is so beautiful and attractive that you would stay looking all the parts, the water wheel is good leaning for kids as well as water dam demonstration is also a great leaning. Evening programs are additional beauty of this place.

Large park in the center of the city, this vibrant park mainly surrounds a series of lakes and streams. Many features are included throughout the park, such as fountains, waterfalls, greenhouses, etc... A good place to bring your family, especially during the famously known festival of lights event held annually during the spring and summer, with more added myriad of attractions.

This was the reason why we came to New Plymouth and we were not let down. The entertainment was amazing and the lights just brought a specialness to the evening. Plan ahead and park your car down a side street as to not get mixed up in the jam that will ensue at the end of the evening. If you are going to see the entertainment, take some nibbles and drinks. There are food trucks there however they run out of food pretty fast due to the sheer volume of hungry people. Enjoy the lights, they are amazing

Really wish we have something like this in Auckland. A must visit at night when FOL is on. Taking the kids for the boat ride is essential. Two music stages were on at the same time during FOL, bring a chair and enjoy it on a clear night. The glasshouse was interesting with poinsettias and ferns and UV lights, wear something white, you’d glow. Food trucks at the entrance for those feeling peckish.

A feast for the senses. The festival of lights is an amazing experience that is worth so much more than the entrance fee of $0.00? Thousands flocked to the park to enjoy and experience the park by night.

Festival of Lights is awesome. Quite crowded, people need to keep left. Also use some insect repellent, lots of hungry sandflys there. #protip

My partner gave me a tour on our last day in New Plymouth, 100% recommend . Would love to visit again whilst one of the events are on , unfortunately I missed womad. But still plenty to see as you walk around the park

This park and its many facets is always a joy to behold but looking forward to the 'lights' coming back on.

The waterfall is absolutely stunning, all the different elements of the park are beautiful, especially the fernery. Overall my most favourite park in the entire world- I don't think I could ever get sick of it :)

Beautifully maintained and designed. Wondering about the sign at the entrance that says it was created in on unwanted land in the 1870s. I'm dead sure local Maori would have 'wanted' it after the land confiscations of the 1860s! About a million acres of prime land ... taken!

Huge space with nature walks along acres of tree covered hills. The Brooklands Bowl is an entertainment area. Just massive.

My parents brought me here 50 years ago: Always enjoyed it - Attended the light festival in 2019, & it's still a great venue to visit!

Awesome place to visit with family. The have light trail which kids will surely love. It can be really crowded at night tho.

Loved this park, it has a something for everyone... From ambling paths to a kids playground with ok toilets. Boats were not out when we went as they were not sure if it was going to rain. The light festival currently running is lovely and with a visit (even with kids) if they can go late (the lights are supposed to start at 8.30pm).

Wonderful park day and night. Full of lush greenery and beautiful scenery which comes alive during the Christmas period with festival of the lights. Highly recommend!

Festival of the Lights, I missed the Bridge feature from last year, the sleeping Giant and the abundant outdoor uv lights, but still a great effort from staff. A very enjoyable New Years Eve.

Never seen anything like this. I was here during newyear 2021. It was all decorated and there was some festival going on. You can also find colorful falls, glowing warms and much more. If you are coming to newplaymuth must visit Pukekura park.

Magical park with lots to see and do. Would definitely recommend a visit if you're passing through the city. Just setting up for the WOMAD festival when I was there so quite a large area was out of bounds. Visit the tropical gardens, very beautiful.

Nice park very close to New Plymouth city center. The cafe inside the lark is really nice. Plenty of tables outside, perfect on a sunny day.

It's a big park in centre of city New Plymouth!! Nice place specially for kids, specially during the festival of lights...LED lighting with different theme also boating for kids and small zoo just inside park...means a perfect way to spend your day ..!! Kids will love it...!!

Festival of lights is a great time to visit. The kids are awestruck and had a blast.

Fantastic experience, we did the ride on tour and the kids loved it, great learning the history as well. Also visited the lights.

Very well done and worth seeing with and without the festival of lights

Love this park. I grew up here and I never got sick of going, every time I go home which is usually around Christmas we take our kids, they have Christmas lights through the park, you can hire row boats which is always fun. I have to say the Christmas lights back in the day where better than they are today but it's still an awesome night out with the whanau. Something the younger generations might not realize is some scenes from the last samuri where filmed there.

I walk through the park every weekend. What an awesome place where you can easily walk 10km without leaving the park. It does not matter what the weather is like. We are very very fortunate to have such a great venue near the centre of town.

I love Pukekura park! it is very fun and it has a mini zoo, a massive playground, and a cafe. the reason it rated it 4 stars is because the water wheel at the playground doesn't work sometimes

"Do Not Enter." The sign made it clear that they didn't want anyone around. That wasn't going to stop Jack. Jack always lived with the notion that signs were mere suggestions, not actually absolute rules. That's why the moment Jack looked at the "Do Not Enter" sign, he walked past it and onto their property. It really shouldn't have mattered to Betty. That's what she kept trying to convince herself even if she knew it mattered to Betty more than practically anything else. Why was she trying to convince herself otherwise? As she stepped forward to knock on Betty's door, she still didn't have a convincing answer to this question that she'd been asking herself for more than two years now.

We visited Pukekura Park for the TSB Festival of Lights. This place is gorgeous whether it's by day or by night.

Pukerua Park, The Tea House on the Lake, New Plymouth, NZ Who would know this serene view with Mt Taranaki in the background was the other side of the car park and sports ground. It is such a beautiful setting and service with a smile. Coffees were only lukewarm when they reached us but everything else was lovely.

Beautiful new lights but not as many as a few years back. A relaxed family outing.

Beautiful gardens a must if you visit New Plymouth

One of the best gardens not only in new Plymouth but the whole new Zealand! It's an amazing garden , with beautiful trees, lakes, waterfalls and walking path!

Excellent and beautiful park, One of the highlights of The Last Samurai filming location, starring Tom Cruise.

Absolutely stunning park. A must if your visiting New Plymouth. A bit tired, take a break at the tea house. Great reasonably priced food that is right next to the lake. Were even some buskers around creating an even better atmosphere. The park is so well developed and clean. Beautiful.

Visit here for the TSB light festivals while on my two weeks holidays. Free entry, yet the effort they put into each theme and creation was so amazingly beautiful. I love it so much that I visited three nights in a row. The waterfall display was my favorite! Family and kids friendly. Beautiful!!

Visit during December to February for the festival of lights. Apart from the crowds, it will not disappoint.

Fantastic light show. Really enjoyed it. Walked around twice. Once before the lights came on while still light . Then again with the lights. Great setting, fun for all age groups.

Had our wedding there, was magical. Staff at Tea House on the Lake were fantastic, loved every moment.

Had a great time at the TSB Light Festival. There was a lot of crowd even though it was after 10:30 pm. Cafe was open and so we're candy floss/icw cream/hot dog stall outaide. Loved the light tunnel <3

One of the stunning parks in Taranaki! Gorgeous place to walk or run through. Loved going to the light festival!

This is one of the most beautiful parks I have ever seen. It has an artificial waterfall, and the Japanese flower section is absolutely beautiful. It also has a sense of peacefulness deeply ingrained. It is absolutely brilliant and a jewel in the crown that is Taranaki.

Its always a pleasure to walk through the park. There's an info table at the entrance to the park that provides a map of the trails and lights. A few little light balls etc.. for purchase. The boats are available to rent until almost closing which is cool.

This Park just gets more amazing every summer, the Festival of Lights was amazingly beautiful. Huge crowds and in the middle of the week on a Wednesday, so many very happy children being extremely well entertained with the thousands of lights displaying this incredible park (must be one of the best parks in the world) in all it's splendor, so very much making it a fantastic destination when visiting Taranaki.

So many different walks you can do and beautiful throughout the year.

Awesome park, wonderfully setup. On a fine day from October through to November you can see a backdrop of the snow capped Mount Taranaki. The man made waterfalls inside the park, the lake, the bridge, boat rides on the lake, the cafe and evening lights make the experience a memorable one.

Fantastic light show at no cost in a lovely garden full of native plants and water features. We spent all over 1.5 hours waking around. It was crowded, but never uncomfortably so. Well worth an evening visit.

Great display this year. Good to see more options for food and ice creams to lessen the wait times. Excellent band tonight too

Fantastic urban park. Once you're inside the park you completely forget that you're inside the city. Beautiful large trees with some great man-made lakes. A wonderful spot to go for a walk.

We went to the Festival of Lights starting in the early evening, interesting displays overall but some were underwhelming. Live music in a couple of places too and the usual food vans were there too. The gardens would also be a pleasant walk during the day too.

Must visit to see the lights. Awesome amazing...... what can I say. Seeing is believing.

NP is really lucky to have this in their city centre. Cool place to wander about, watch cricket etc.

Festival of Lights was CROWDED even on a Tuesday - didn't have time to see all light installations although we were there for 2.5 hours.

I definitely have some childhood memories in this park, this place has been somewhat of a symbol growing up in new Plymouth and I have had so many humbling interactions and experiences within this park. I’m going to remember a lot of things from here for the rest of my life and in some sense has shaped me for who I am today because of the experiences I’ve had here. I’m so grateful to have grown up close to this park, the concerts I’ve seen and the animals I was able to watch. Thank you for the giant, thank you for the hypnotic lights, thank you for the gorilla and thank you for the waterfall. Now that I’m all grown-up and I look back at this place makes me nostalgic.

Very nice spacious park to explore beautiful gardens a play ground for the hildren as well as a pond and a fountain. There is a tea room and shop to buy an icecream as well as boats to hire. Fun for all the family plenty of parking and free to get in.

Speechless!! My beautiful lady and I and our new puppy spent the afternoon with a picnic on the hill of the bowl...after a picturesque walk through the amazing grounds which all 3 of us loved. Being dog friendly takes it to the next level

I thoroughly enjoyed this park, we were there during the light festival and did a day walk and came back that night to walk it again. Amazing atmosphere, great for families. The zoo was lots of fun even for us 4 adults. Recommend going here as a nice free day out for the family!

Such a beautiful park. I worried it wouldn't be tranquil or peaceful as it is right in the centre of town, but it was just beautiful. We went during the day and had a lovely walk around the park, admiring the scenery and the water. I love that the water features have to operated by you in order to see them (the waterfall and the fountain) such a eco friendly way of managing a park! We also returned in the evening for the festival of lights and this is just spectacular. So well done with some really great use of light and colour. It's also free!!

I love how this park make you feel like you are in a forest instead of a park, more like a forest with a park. The trees are old and there are a lot of tracks to walk through. The zoo next to it is also a bonus for the kids. There is a lot to see in this park..there are cafes and fountains and a waterfall. A re-knowned concert hall where famous celebs has performed like Elton John and the likes. Must see when in Taranaki.

Beautiful park full of little books and pathways - very beautiful even in the winter.

The local council and Tranaki TSB sponsor the local Festival of Lanterns in the Park. This is magnificent if you are anywhere in the North Island, it draws in Many visitors. Each night there are bands playing, the park is lit up with lanterns but in a park setting.

Beautiful park and definitely worth a walk around and especially when the night lights are on, also the council run zoo is free where on earth can you get a council giving you something for free!. We are from Tauranga and we wish our council would spend money on something decent and do a family friendly and anybody area . Something for everyone in New Plymouth.

You can't beat this park. Every year for a month and a half they have the festival of lights and almost every night they have entertaining for adults and kids. Bands activities ect. And best of all it's free.

Can do better with information signages, like about the trees, or their significance, etc. Otherwise it is a well maintained park, with unique spots in each corner e.g. playground, ice cream place, that all offers a lovely stroll overall.

Lovely grounds. Lots of places to explore. Take a picnic and enjoy the day. Highly recommend the 45min buggy tour, well worth the 5bucks just to get the stories.

A beautiful park, with ample footpaths leading to secluded swards of lawn. The Festival of Lights is a delightful display of art and technology, allowing free wandering through the park for people of all ages and accessible to those with disabilities. A delightful tearooms face the lake and offer a wide variety of cabinet food s well as hot and cold beverages.

Great place!! Parent note: I don't recommend anyone using the four double wheeled strollers as the gravel/stones in places gets quite hard to push them along with child in the stroller (strollers/prams also can't go through the fernery *won't fit)

Awesome, day and night, especially during Christmas period to see the Festival of Lights. One suggestion for parents, go to $2 shop or Warehouse to get glow sticks.

I went with my Grandkids and My son and daughter-in-law. It's is a lovely little Park. Lot's of parking. There's also good toilets with wheelchair access ☺️. Also there is a lovely walk way there suite able for pushing a pram. Will worth the visit ☺️

It's a great New Plymouth attraction! For families, friends, extended families, couples and travellers! It's beautiful scenery! A cafe when you want to take a break for the afternoon and look at all that there's to see while grabbing a delicious snack/meal that hits the spot! They have whatever tickles your fancy! At night there's wonderful lighting effects put around the park! To excite parkgoers! All round a fantastic way to spend the day/evening!💭🤔🙂👍👌

Absolutely wonderful Festival of Lights.The park was beautiful and the free use of a Mobility Scooter was great,a shout out for the ladies helping with the Scooter, they were a delight. Thankyou to the N.P Council for a job well done 😁

Pukekura Park in New Plymouth is a huge park with lots to see. Definitely go visit the Bowl of Brooklyn. There are lots of trails through planted areas with streams, lakes and other water features. There is also a playground for the kids. Pukekura Park also contains a sports ground which hosts cricket and rugby games at various times of the year. One of the must see parts of any visit to New Plymouth.

The lights at night were amazing even though the rain set in we had a good night and its a great park during the day too with the Brookland zoo there also

Walking through this park is such a delight, situated in the heart of the city it is a tranquil haven. The natural beauty is stunning with waterfalls and bridges with Mt Taranaki in the background. There is a cafe on site beside the lake where you can hire a boat. Once a year during the month of January there is a light spectacle to behold during the evening. Day and night this is a peaceful haven. There is a playground and toilets around the park.

Great place to take the family or dogs for a walk, have a picnic, see the Festival of Lights, have a coffee or go for a jog or bike ride. Beautiful gardens, a great place to recharge!!

An absolute gem for the city especially in summer when the Council holds the Summer Scene program in the park. Free entertainment for the whole family and there is something for everyone. A must do when coming to New Plymouth.

Very nice large green space at a stone's throw distance from the city. The gardens are very well curated and maintained. The open air theatre is very beautiful and seats a lot of people. The lakes are awesome and well maintained. Walks around the lakes are also amazing. The waterfall in the park is nice. There is a small cafe and ice cream shop to catch a breather on the way. There's something for every age group. Lights festival on the nights was one of best things I experienced. Very highly recommended.

Great for a stroll on the bush track or around the lake. There is a lovely cafe there with yummy icecreams on offer. My grandsons love the playground a bit before the park. On top of the hill is the small, free entry zoo.

Peaceful bush walks from a quick stroll to a couple of hrs walk. Lots of bird life especially on some of the more remote tracks. Great for the kids to feed the ducks in the lake and if you're lucky maybe even see some eels lurking below. Great cafe and takeaway icecreams. Plenty of wheelchair access. Just a short walk from the town centre, but normaly parking can be found in or around the park.

The gardens here are very well kept and I provides for a relaxing calm setting for a nice walk and a great little cafe to have a little something after.. A highlight for our visit to New Plymouth.

A beautiful national treasure to stroll though and dogs are welcome on a leash. Also a great little cafe here where you can feed the ducks by one of the lakes. The lights festival is also worth coming to each year. This park is beautifully maintained. Really worth a view if you are visiting the area.

This is one of the best parks I have been to. It is huge and a wonderful lay out has an old feel to it but surprises around every corner something for everyone.Easy to walk but also hills if you want a workout lovely play area for children and a lake with paddle boats a free zoo just above the park l highly recommend

Beautiful historic park. Dogs allowed on leashed outside the light festival hours. Seems like a local favourite for dog walking.

An exceptional park to visit in the evening. Saturday night saw live music, food and a great atmosphere. There is plenty to keep kids entertained, playground, fountain and lights throughout the park.

What a beautiful park. It includes a free zoo, which unfortunately was closed the day I went. It has a waterfall, boats to hire on the lake, and a cafe as well as hectares of park to walk through. Well worth a look if in the area.

Lovely gardens & walks (some are steep so be warned!) Recommend not trying to do it all in one day but savour it in parts over your holiday so you can appreciate all it has to offer

A lake, teahouse, waterfall, hire boats, Japanese style buildings, a zoo and stunning gardens. Make a day of it, there's plenty to see and so many walking tracks.

Light show worth the visit

Amazing park - particularly incredible during the Festival of Lights (December to Feb, usually). Good spot for runners and walkers. Excellent kids playground. Enjoy a spot of rowing on the lake, and don't miss out on seeing the Fernery!

Such a cool place. Very well maintained. Grass, flowers etc were great. Saw a monkey...that's always nice. Kids had a play until one of them hurt themselves...carpark well designed for a quick exit.

I have been coming to this park off and on for 70 odd years and for a quiet place to walk my dog and relax amongst the trees and look across the lakes it cannot be beat. I have travelled the world and am yet to see its like in the heart of a city anywhere I have been.

Beautiful park

This park is amazing! We were shown this park by family we were visiting, and we were blown away with the incredible kids playground and the beautiful scenery and walkways. Some months later we were visiting again and had the immense pleasure of experiencing the park again during the Festival of Lights. Honestly the most awesome (and FREE) event I have seen in quite some time. Well done New Plymouth!

Went to the festival of lights with my family was brilliant. Beautiful setting and lovely lights to see. My favourite was the waterful by the lake as in the pic. Great for children as the playground is lit up and has entertainment. On the hatchery lawn a band played.was a lovely free night out. Lush and green, this park has lovely pathways to following leading you to lawns, lakes, a beautiful fernery, children’s playground and a spacious picnic area. Plenty of shade on a hot day and a cafe with ice cream shop, Pukekura Park is a must see!

I absolutely love this place, I've come here since I was a little girl as I was born in New Plymouth. I now live in the the king county but always love to come home to the naki and now bring my children to visit this amazing park where I shared so many happy memories with my family growing up. Fantastic park for families to enjoy.

Nice park located in a residential area. You wouldn't think there is so much to it! Multiple easy little walks around are possible. There are indication of the # of km. The forest itself is well preserve with mature trees and a good variety of plants. If you enjoy nature, it's a good little escape from the city life.

Visited the Festival of Lights here. What a lovely park, particularly lit up at night. If you are in town when this is on (every summer), you must check it out. Free movies, free bands, free entry! What more could you ask for? Easy paths to negotiate, nice place to stretch your legs and take in some fresh air.

Stunning place for peace and quiet and a gentle stroll, take a picnic

It's time for the evening illuminations. I was surprised how popular this was with families. I was there on a particularly lovely summer evening. We listened to the welcoming Taranaki Harmony Chorus singing carols and Christmas songs as the sun went down and lights came on. The lake house was open for cafe style refreshments and queue formed for hot nuts or ice creams. The park had a happy festive vibe and it was nature enhanced beautifully. So why not 5 stars? I've just returned from the UK and seen the Wisley Park lights. They are bigger and better but then they charge plenty for their trail. Pukekura Park is free.

Have stayed in New Plymouth a couple of times in the past few years specifically for the Festival of Lights. Well worth the visit to see such intriguing installations. If you're not from Taranaki make the effort to go and explore this beautiful place.
