One of our absolute favorite beaches in New Zealand!! We have spent about 12 weeks in this area in the last year, and have even considered buying a second home here! The beach is long and wide with soft white sand. The dunes at the back of the beach are beautiful, and they can provide some protection on windy days. It gets really wide at low tide and many locals head out to the waterline to dig shellfish (mostly Tuatua) for dinner. The beach is never crowded, except near the campgrounds on weekends or holidays, so you will have plenty of space to pick your favorite spot to relax. It is also our favorite place for long afternoon walks as the sun starts to go down. There are many access points to the beach with short trails to walk across the dunes. You can park anywhere along Papamoa Beach Road for free, and use one of the many access trails to the beach. Usually, it’s about a 50 meter walk from the roadside parking, but a shorter and easier walk if you use one of the parking lots available. Along Papamoa Beach road there are plenty of restaurants and stores, too.

A wonderful camping ground right on an amazing beach. On a good day, this place is not bettered. There is a new life saving centre being built for protected swimming.

Nice place for a quick pitstop. There is a caravan that sells coffee and food. Not sure if they are here every day. The view is great and there is a public restroom. There is also a restaurant close by that opens around midday if you want to sit down and eat.

Resort? Depends what your looking for. Confined to studio type 1 bedroom with bunks, single bed and queen in kitchenette/dining/lounge area that opens out to spectacular ocean views. Good for a quick escape and close to shopping.

This is a well maintained reserve. That features freedom camping. Allows dogs and provides disposal bags and rubbish bins for convenience. There are also toilet facilities at the east end of the park.

Always great for a morning strol especially when the weather is just right. Always amazing what you come across at times today We found two large shells but you also come across the odd seal or two at times as well. But what we find best of all is the cheeryness of the people we meet walking their dogs and their willingness to be friendly and talk about the world in general. We love living where we do and will keep walking the beach as long as we can.
