Reviews of Abel Tasman National Park
C. W.
This natural Park is simply wonderful. You can walk on it's multiple tracks and camp in it's campsites or go for just one day with a taxi boat. You can also enjoy kayaking or simply swim, the turquoise waters welcome you. We just loved it!
H. H.
An absolute jewel. Water taxis make it accessible even if you miss out on booking a DOC hut. Well maintained track that is an NZ must-do. Go to the Department of Conservation website for track information and read all the links such as know-before-you-go. Doable all year round
J. T.
Quintessential New Zealand - pristine Beaches and the walks can be eithereasy or difficult depending on whether you carry your own gear. Would highly suggest starting your tramp early in the morning so you have plenty of time to spend at the campsites which are almost always a stone throw away from the picturesque golden beaches.
S. B.
Absolutely Spectacular!! Words can't describe how beautiful the entire national park is. Definitely be coming back again and again as there is so much to see and do.
R. E.
It's hard to believe that I haven't been here before, but today we've walked a section of the Able Tasman national park. We took a seataxi to Torrent bay and walked to Bark bay, not a difficult but a stunningly beautiful walk I am still realing from the impact of the beauty and the fabulous beaches we came across.
Just go folks mass tourism is on your heels.
W. M.
Amazing place to hike! Tracks well formed and flat, nothing too challenging. Huts are amazing, have WiFi and charging points at anchorage. Top notch for a Great Walks track! Plenty of views at the high points, and alot of opportunities to drop down to beaches for a quick rest/lunch stop!
J. C.
Love going for a Walk and the small beaches on the way last time we were here we saw stingy rays and huge star fish caves and beautiful clean water to swim in
L. V.
Absolutely loved it! Beautiful scenery, I want to do it again
E. X.
Such nice coast walk ! Take us 3 days ! Amazing

The Abel Tasman National Park is an easily-accessible coastal paradise. You can choose to explore the park from land, on the water, or in the air, with tour operators aplenty offering cruises, water taxi services, kayaking options, heli-tours and sailing catamarans.
Whilst summer is a popular time to visit, locals believe that the shoulder seasons are actually the best time to explore the park, as crisp mornings, calm waters and quiet beaches allow you to truly enjoy the peace and serenity.
Those who crave home comforts can stay in luxurious lodges, but sleeping under the stars is regarded as the ultimate way to experience the spirit of the Abel Tasman.
Here, inviting sandy beaches fill the spaces between trees and tide line. Crystal clear streams tumble down mossy valleys to join the ocean. Granite and marble formations fringe the headlands, which are cloaked in regenerating native forest.
At Te Puketea Bay, a perfect crescent of golden sand, a walking track leads up Pitt Head to an ancient Maori pa (fort) site. Terracing and food pits are still visible, and it's easy to see why the location was chosen as a defensive site - the views are huge.
Native wildlife is an essential part of the scenery. Tui and bellbird song fills the forest; shags (cormorants), gannets and little blue penguins dive for their dinner; fur seals lounge on the rocks around the edge of Tonga Island.
K. S. F.
Paradise on Earth. Astonishing nature and well kept tracks all around the park.
M. v. L.
What's there to say.... Breathtaking. Well kept paths. This should be on everyone's bucket list.
L. G. (.
By foot or by Wilsons Vista Ferries a must do for New Zealanders and tourists alike
G. E.
Totally awesome experience would thoroughly recommend it I am 70 and I found some of the hills a little bit tough but the people and the scenery made it fantastic. If you are thinking about doing it go for it. Went with the Wilson's tour organizers and they are brilliant. So packs transferred everyday so just carry your day pack . Wonderful accommodation at nights and best food possible. Our guides so knowledgeable only young fellas but you learnt so much. Plus you get an option if you pull up lame !! You don't miss out boats will transfer you bay to bay. Could not recommend more highly.
P. S.
Amazing national park , nature at its best.
The hikes are easy and great views and scenery to delight.
If you want to really enjoy the place make sure you get on the water too. Hire a kayak and you can get a whole new perspective on the place
S. B.
Fantastic experience! Worth every rupee! It was great right from the beginning to end. Me and wife just planned it on the run time and we will cherish the memories of it for rest of our lives. Tracks were very well maintained and the whole place is very beautiful. I would recommend this to each and everyone who will be traveling to New Zealand.
I. A.
One of the great national parks on the South Island, and in New Zealand in general. We did the 3 day track there and it was very good, except for the last 2 days were it rained, in bucketfuls, nearly nonstop for 36 hours. We basically had to sleep next to the visitor center before the ranger kicked us out the next day. So yeah - be ready for the weather to turn on you.
Also very important - be aware of the tides in some of the crossings - otherwise it will be very difficult to cross places and avoid getting your boots wet.
J. b.
Endless beautiful coastlines and golden beaches. You can do anything from short tails to the Great Walk. We got to do the Northern Circuit but only had two days in this corner of New Zealand so if I'm lucky enough to return I would love to spend enough time here to do this Great Walk.
The weather can change on you quickly here as it started out cloudy and dreary but by late afternoon it was a beautiful, hot, sunny day.
J. C.
The walk from Medlands beach to Anchorage was beautiful. The coastal hike was quite easy, but the views were absolutely breathtaking.
D. G.
Amazing place and so many options to enjoy the views such as walking, kayaking or taking water taxi. I would really recommend kayaking AND taking a walk to listen to all of the birds singing in the bushes (or even see them passing next to you!)
S.
One of the great places in the South Island. It reminded me a lot of the Coromandel. The color of the water is amazing is to see, and the walk through the rain forests is great.
You can do a variety of things here. There is the coastal walk that involves days of camping. If you are short on time, you can book boat tours that take you to different locations where you can walk some trails. This is the best option if you want a taste of the park.
The beaches are cool but do not expect anything fancy. They are small and can be very rocky. That does not mean they are bad though.
Keep your eyes peeled for some wildlife like seals and other birds. See if you can take a look at the split rocks too.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this place. Take some time to enjoy the scenery and ocean.
P. B.
We spent a day in the park. It is truly a natural beauty. Our day started with a water taxi ride where we got to see some of the points of interests and dome seals. We walked part of the stunning coastal track. The track is very well maintained and not difficult at all to walk. We also spent dome time on a couple of the postcard perfect beaches. To top it off we had lunch at the Awaroa Lodge. The great little cafe in the park offered wonderful food and it was nice to rest with a cool drink after the hike. To top it off we had a nice ride back over the water to Marahau. Brilliant day.
W.
Amazing walk around the coastline. During our boat ride to one of the beaches. We had a few stopovers which was amazing like the Split apple rock. Also saw some seals and other animals. During the walk, there are some small walks to see the beaches, creeks etc. Just make sure to bring food along the way and water.
K. R.
Amazing must do hike and camp for 2 or 5 days. Well worth completing the entire park. Stunning views and very beautiful beaches and camp sites. Take plenty of water and water bottles.
M. W.
Must do. If you can, kayak to Anchorage and take a water taxi back. We brought our alpacka raft and did the journey no problems, but be warned it was around 7 miles and took us almost 3 hours to complete the trip with stops. They said it would be 4 hours, so it probably depends on a lot of factors. Either way, get over there and enjoy the beautiful remote beach. Don't camp there though, that looked terrible in the summer time.
P. C. K. C.
The Abel Tasman track is deceptively difficult. The hills all along the track may look small but they are steep and to get over one hill u have to climb over 2, sometimes 3 ridges to get across. No sooner did u get to the top of the ridge, u r down a deep gully then up another ridge. The toughest day is (2nd day if you walk from Wainui Bay and 4th day if u start from Marahau), 19.8km if you take the Separation Point route). The scenery is beautiful. If you are fit, it's worth the effort. If you should at any stage wants to give up, u can always catch the water taxi back 👍👍👍😀😀
E. M.
Absolutely stunning. If you can, hike through a section of the park. It's one hundred percent worth it. The flora and fauna are wonderful, there's so much to see. We took a boat up the coast and saw seals and dolphins, which was very exciting. I recommend the company we used, Wilsons, very friendly with good service. There was a discount in AA Traveller but we did have to email them as it didn't work right away when booking online.
L. V. B.
The Abel Tasman Trail is a great experience. Beautiful beaches, lovely forest hiking, estuaries to cross (check the tide charts!), and comfortable huts to sleep in. Camp sites are also available, and there are even places to drive in and park. Carry your rubbish out with you!
D.
Amazing place with so many nice hikes and great scenery. We went over to Totaranui and walked south to Goat bay which was about 20 minutes but over a big hill. Going north was better walking around the headlands track loop which was about 40 minutes. Great location.
E.
Must do hiking trek!!
The trek was not difficult but long.
Here are some info for those who wanna hike this track:
"The Abel Tasman Coast Track is a 60 kilometres (37 mi)[1] long walking track within the Abel Tasman National Park in New Zealand. It extends from Marahau in the south to Wainui in the north, with many side tracks. It is one of two main tracks through the park, the other being the Abel Tasman Inland Track, which stretches for 38 km between Tinline Bay and Torrent Bay off the main coastal track. The coastal track is well sheltered, and with mild weather in all seasons, it is accessible and open throughout the year."
M. C.
Really enjoyable park. We went camping, hiking and kayaking here.
There is a loot to see and do in this national park so you should try out some of the activites you like the most.
It was a beautiful park and easy to feel relaxed in and enjoy yourself.
B. H.
Lovely hiking here for both experienced or beginners. We only did a small walk to amazing look outs and had lunch on the beach! The highlight was Kayaking to the stunning islands and beaches with gorgeous scenery and saw loads of seals!
L.
One of the great walks. We did the coastline part.
Though the views are beautiful it pretty much stays the same, after having walked to beach #3 we turned back. Still very worth it of course!
T. P.
One of the great walk can be found inside this national park, it's a bit difficult to get there, but it's really pleasant once inside.
A lot of beaches and dramatics coastline that can be admired from the forest.
K.
Beautiful place in NZ to visit, must do if you are in the area. There are lots of track options so something for every ability.
A. S.
Stunning views, track is incredibly well maintained, and the colors of the beaches and water have to be seen to be believed. We stayed at both the camping ground and Awahou Lodge and both were excellent. Only slight downside was the water at the beaches is pretty cold! But hot weather makes up for it
I. S.
The park is absolutely stunning. I did a four day hike with a friend all the way up to Mutton Cove. If you're thinking of doing the hike I strongly recommend going south to North. The first part up to Anchorage is nice but pales in comparison to the beautiful bays and beaches in the north. My personal highlight was Anapai bay which is absolutely beautiful. We got to see and actually swim with dolphins that just happened to swim by there. The whole hike was an awesome experience! (Beware of the Wekas though! They can and will steal your food and any items in plastic bags lying arround! That includes food as well as passports and toilet paper, true story.) The park has some of the most beautiful sceneries and interesting vegetation I have ever seen. Definitely a must do!
I.
Amazing hike that can be done in 1-5 days depending how long you decide to go for.
Must book a water taxi back to the location of where you are park once you reach the end of one of many of your destinations.
Beautiful walk that is not too steep ranging from 2-4 hours a day.
Check the DOC site for a guide
P. D.
Easy walk with great views! Huts and Campsites have to be booked, so plan ahead if you want to be there in peak season. All of the campsites and huts are nice and there are even flushing toilets at most of the places. Seals and penguins can be spottet in the park. Take your time and enjoy the views!
S.
Awesome Awesome Awesome! Was a challenge for us on those hills but we made it all the way to kaiteriteri with help of pristine beaches for (sore muscles)and magnificent scenery!! Wilson's staff at all overnight stays were fantastic!
A. B.
Gorgeous hiking area and stunning views. Do use the water taxis to get from place to place. Be careful, there are lots of sandflies on the beaches.
H. H.
A beautiful national park combining forest walks with golden sand and turquoise water. Good for day walks, kayaking, five day treks etc. Best of the parks around Nelson, in my opinion. Definitely worth visiting if you're in this corner of NZ
H. S.
Beautiful location and hike with a wide range of difficulty. The last stages can be challenging. Also be aware of tide crossing as towards the last stage at awora hut tides may prevent crossing. If you are not into hiking you can travel with the water taxi to see the coastal landscapes
A. G.
Worth to make a walk. Not the whole at least like everything looks like the same. Made the walk from Bark bay back to visitor center. Water taxi costs 42$ one way. 7 hours walk back. Great landscape!
M. W.
Abel Tasman National Park is a wilderness reserve at the north end of New Zealand's South Island. It's known for the Abel Tasman Coast Track, a long trail winding about beaches and across ridges between Marahau in the south and Wainui in the north. The headland at Separation Point is home to New Zealand fur seal colonies. Little blue penguins, bottlenose dolphins and seals inhabit the Tonga Island Marine Reserve.
We were here in 2007 and really enjoyed this very beautiful area. you can be dropped off at Bark bay and then walk back to Kaiteriteri. a very nice walk. we therefore strongly recommend doing this. and a kayak tour with a guide is very fun and educational to do. we loved it
T. S.
Words are hard to explain how stunning this wall and park Is. Given the opportunity do try give all the doc hits a go or even better the camp sites.
m. k.
We loved this national park. We were here for three days and spent all of our time hiking around the area. On day one we did the trail from Marahua to Anchorage. It was nice 12 km trail with glimpses of the ocean as you go along. We spotted many native birds and saw silver ferns while hiking. The Anchorage beach was a good point to end the hike. We stopped in between to the Cleopatra pool. I would definitely recommend going here. Day 2 we spent most of our time in Kaiteriteri beach and areas around it. The Onetahuti to Awaroa lodge hike is good too. The sea shuttles are very convenient and they drop you off at the start of the trail and pick u up from the end of the trail. For those who like Kayaking can omit the shuttle and kayak from one island to another
M. B.
definetely a must to for everybody visiting the southern island! gorgeous beaches with professional hop on hop off cruises, nice walking tracks, all good! On the pictures below you see one of those beaches we have been dropped by the boat. Of course you can have some walks on the well prepares tracks over there. Very unfortunate we didnt have the time for the 3 days route with sleep overs at some of those beaches. Wild camping is also possible at some of these beaches!
you should definetely consider some time in that region!
A. K.
We only spent an afternoon walking along the Abel Tasmin Coast Track - but loved every minute of it. The views are stunning as you wind through the forest and look out across the bays.
We will have to return and attempt one of the longer walks!
There is lots of parking and a few cafés & restaurants nearby beofre you set off.
M. W.
Wow, how do you describe the beauty? We caught an Aqua Taxi to Torrent Bay and walked the track back to Marahau. Well maintained track and sure footing for all ages and abilities. Undulating but not terribly steep. A national treasure.
F. G.
Awesome walk from there. Most of first kilometers are shady (after the few first bridges) and rather flat, definitely ok with kids of 6+ used to walk.
T. Y.
Beautiful beaches and hikes. Go early in the morning and do some planning/research before you go. We missed a hike because we checked the tide table late. Bring water and food with you. There are bathroom facilities.
S. J.
Some parts of the walking track were a bit damaged by Cyclone Geeta and various storms recently. Beautiful scenery and plenty of curious native birds. Still an amazing national park overall.
N.
A stunning park filled with secluded golden sand beaches, bird filled forests rich with life and seal and fish filled seas. Paradise on Earth (except the sand flies!)

One great work in South Island in New Zealand. Amazing view. Immerse yourself in the fabulous nature of the world and experience your personal adventure.

Fantastic place to go, went on water taxis scenic tour best ever, beautiful you don't realize on how big it is till you do a boat ride, stopped at the Totaranui camp site where there are toilets and information center
D. C.
Awesome, did the boattour and got dropped of at Medlands beach, hiked 4 hours to Anchorage and got picked up by the boat. Beautiful!
D. G.
This place is so beautiful. Stayed here for a few days and took a boat trip up to Anchorage beach which is fantastic. If you are visiting the South Island it’s a must place to visit
T.
Abel Tasman National Park is a New Zealand national park located between Golden Bay and Tasman Bay at the north end of the South Island. It is named after Abel Tasman, who in 1642 became the first European explorer to sight New Zealand and who anchored nearby in Golden Bay.
M. J. S.
It was amazing! I loved this park, it has a lot of beautiful sceneries and it's a very easy walk. If you visit for a day I recommend to take the water taxi and then star your walk.
D. W.
This is the dry side of New Zealand where you will find the most sunshine. No roads and foot access makes it a backpacker paradise. Peek out from your sleeping bag at night to see glow worms under logs. Plenty of wildlife, good fishing and a chance to have the solitude of a private beach.
J. H.
Honestly - Wow!! Very easy walk regardless of fitness/age/abilities. Have walks of various distance. Distance shown are one way. Water cove was stunning, for a short period of time I even had the whole beach to myself. I'm sure there is freedom camping near the site too. Location also offers a small cafe. Nice spot after a stunning day.
N. S.
We did the 3 - 4 day tramp and it was brilliant. Even braved the cold waters at cleopatra's pool. The huts were well maintained with great facilities.
M. (.
Don't miss this place. It's paradise ! If you have a half day like us, book a water taxi (Abel Tasman sea shuttles at Kaiteriteri) to Awaroa with a return at Tonga Quarry and you have a 2hour awesome walk !
B. W.
Beautiful and absolutely breathtaking! A few beaches to access along the way, so pack a towel and swim gear too 😎
G. G.
Paradise on earth, a world class walk through beautiful bush and stunning beaches. Quite possibly one of the most beautiful places in nz, if not the world
M. S.
What can I say, it's like something from a travel show, truly amazing and beautiful. The bush, the beaches, the water, all so good.
I. H.
A must do when visiting Nelson. For me, it is the most beautiful national park in New Zealand. I walked the Anchorage-Maurahu track (12 km), the view was stunning. I encountered three wild seals in Swallow Bay, a very beautiful and quiet beach.
江.
The view and the nature is wonderful. Track and the beach is great to have all day fun.
M. G.
We only saw a small part, not being able to do the whole treck but what a beautiful part of the the world. The weather was great, the water very tempting and refreshing.
The drive from Takaka was slow as you climb and descent in a very windy road.
P. Z.
We did a full Abel Tasman Coast Track. Although the campsite prices seem to be expensive, the sceneries and the facilities are totally worth it. Just don't feed wekas!
If you are considering kayaking part of the route, then Abel Tasman Kayaks is our recommendation!
D. S.
A fantastic natural area full of native trees, beautiful beaches and very clean water 💦. Very scenic and unspoilt.
A. N.
Walked for 4 hours from Anchorage to Marahau. One of the best walking tracks so far ☺️
J. v. d. M.
Small part of the track that I walked on from Marahua was beautiful. Thought I'd go for 20 minutes and spent 2hrs. Breathtaking views, frost on the beach at 14h00. Absolutely beautiful.
D. R.
Very beautiful whether hiking, kayaking, using one of the many water taxis or swimming, camping, using the DOC huts....
N. E.
You must hike the Abel Tasman track if you're the South Island. Unbelievably gorgeous stretch of coastline the whole way and the Water Taxi system enables you to go as far or as short as you want.
J. P.
Absolutely amazing scenery, beautiful beaches and great walks.
D.
Nice park with nice hiking trails. Not too difficult but still you should be properly equipped. And you'll see a lot of Wekas 😁
L.
Awesome experience. Will definitely go back in the Summer.
S.
This is not to be missed when visiting NZ. Beautiful beaches and inlets. Ferry taxi to get there and drop off is directly on to the beach. Scenery stunning
Y. W.
Such a wonderful National Park. Take the 12-km-walk and have a break at the beach.
D.
If you love hiking go! If you love kayaking go! If you love camping go! This place is Beautiful! A must do. It is great for all types of fitness
P. A.
We ran to anchorage Hill and back out. Around 21kms. A very well maintained track and one of New Zealands top 10 walks. Excellent camping and the paid pre booked huts are brilliant.
J. N.
Beautiful beaches. Great walks. Amazing views. Just watch out for the sand flies!
R. D.
Amazing sights at all times on this trail, easy enough to be accessible for any age or fitness. If in shape, would recommend doing in 3 days.
B. C. V.
Can you imagine turquoise waters with golden sandy beaches, and lush green forests? Yes, Abel Tasman is undoubtedly stunning. And one of the best ways to see it is from out on the water on a sea kayaking trip followed by a hiking track back to the starting point.
Looks good? That is exactly what we did.
J. K.
Amazing area, have visited by tramping and by kayaking, and have loved it both times. It's a summer paradise, with scenic beauty and warm waters.
C. R. T.
this is truly a stunning place. And for me a must see if you are visiting New Zealand
A. A.
I have taken a very beautiful hike through the bushes and beaches. If you book your huts and tentsites, make sure that you will have enough time to enjoy the beautiful beaches. It's better to plan shorter day hikes.
C. O.
My friend and I took a sea shuttle over to one of the beaches and had a lovely time exploring. The Abel Tasman National Park is beautiful and remote, definitely a must see on the South Island.
A. B.
Whether your planning a walk, or a kayaking adventure, this place is simply amazing. Truly the 8th wonder of the world
T.
Do not leave New Zealand before you've been to Abel Tasman. Most beautiful national park, easily accessible by water taxi for flexible walking, hiking or just enjoying the beaches.
K.

Beautiful national park. Home to the amazing Abel Tasman great walk. Be sure to check out the department of conservations website for everything you need to know. Abel Tasman Aqua Taxi's are also great if you want to only have a limited amount of time to do the hike!

Great place to hike with family.
R. B.
Awesome! Beautiful country, great walk.
T. B.
We spent amazing 5 days in Abel Tasman NP. We did the whole coast track from south to north and got lucky with the weather. Sooo beautiful!!
V.
Perfect for hiking and kayaking tours! Everything can be spontaneously booked on site.
W.
Great NP, very different from others. Nice beaches, nice hikes between them. A bit overcrowded at Christmas season, but worth it
J. S.
Definitely one of New Zealands most beautiful places. Great hikes with the possibility to meet seals and penguins.
R. H.
Beautiful place..see it from the water as well!
E. B.
Probably the most beautiful National Park in NZ, and maybe even the world. Turquoise waters, stunning scenery and beautiful sandy beaches.
G. F.
Beautiful area, fantastic coves and beaches!
D. M.
Excellent place to visit. Highly would recommend for a holiday destination
P. P.
Gorgeous park! Wish I had more time to explore it! 😊👍
J.
Some of the most picturesque coastline in the country. Wether your hiking through the trails or just out for a cruise on the water, Abel Tasman National Park sights are world class
L.
Just beautiful. Just do it. It's amazing. The 3 day pass on the ferry is a great way to enjoy bits of the park without walking the entirety. We stayed at kaiteriteri & it works so well.
H. B.
Beautiful forest with well marked tracks
C. H.
The highlight of NZ in my book! Loved every second in the park...
S.
Beautiful scenery, a must do if you get the chance.
D. J.
Took the walk to the Wainui Falls. Very easy track and well maintained. Plenty of parking and a gorgeous waterfall to top it all off. Take your swim wear. Plenty of places to take a dip.
M. (.
Easily one of the best tramping experiences I've had.
We eventually went for the 4 day hike from Marahau to Totaranui which was the perfect distance for us.
We saw beautiful beaches, mountains and the walks themselves were challenging but very much doable.
T. L.
Amazing hike and beautiful surroundings. The boat ride was fun but be prepared not to get super splashed if you're sitting on the wrong end during bad weather. The hike was very easy, pleasant and very enjoyable. Do yourself a favor and go. Also be prepared of sand flies as usual. The beaches look serene and fantastic but the flies can be a real pain.
H.
The joy surrounded with the incomparable nature Beaty brings me the top life quality.
B.
A Beautiful ride on Abel Tasman sea shuttle, Beautiful scenery to be had,
Shuttle well worth it.
C.
Amazing and fairly easy track along beautiful coastline. We did a kayak and hike tour where we got dropped off in kayaks at the northern end and kayaked about half way to overnight camp and then hike out. This was a great option to combine on the water time with hiking.
F.
Wonderful park with amazing tracks
Z.
Well worth taking a boat trip past and then walking through the national park. One of the longest granite coast lines in the world. Nice climate. Lots of walks and trails down different routes. Also a few beautiful beaches in the park. Well kept and preserved. One of our favorite places in New Zealand. Totally worth it.
T.
Amazing place I strongly recommend it
O.
I really enjoyed hiking here with beautiful view and swim. I would love to go back.
V. O.
Great coastal walk. Anytime of the year. Don't miss the Inland Track, if you have time.
M.
I only wish I could live here. Heaven on earth
M.
Wonderful views! It's a place you can't miss when visiting New Zealand. The color of the sea is fabulous. It's worth to take a long walk in the forest. It's not always easy especially when you have to go uphill but the views are breath-taking. We took one of organized tours with a boat ride at the beginning and a long walk, finished with a short nap on the beach - it was a great experience. Especially interesting and surprising was a ride in the boat but actually on the tractor that took the boat to the sea :). I just wished we took a kayaking trip in the bay, as the views must have been astonishing, but maybe next time :).
A.
Spend a day here at least and look online for activities for doing with kids
J.
Easy trekking, nice walks and some time to relax
R. D.
Fantastic experience from start to finish - worth every cent. Campgrounds and huts were really well maintained, track is in top condition, and the DOC Rangers were really friendly and super helpful. Fellow hikers/campers were also friendly and respectful, both of each other and of the tainga that is Abel Tasman National Park. A truly magical NZ experience.
P. L.
A really accessible park especially suited to those who may not have a great amount of outdoor experience. Beautiful natural forest and shoreline scenery. A great walking track. I recommend taking a boat ride and then walking part of the track, to be picked up by boat from another location if you want a one-day experience of the New Zealand outdoors. Very busy track in the summer, but this place is accessible and beautiful all year round. Very peaceful in the winter months.
J. B.
A excellent park with easy walking track suitable for all ages. Sleeping quarters along the way. Anchorage from the south end is a good day walk. Sea taxis available up and down the coast . Beautiful pristine native bush. Well worth the journey
L. P.
One of the most beautiful places out there. Doesn't matter if you hike, paddle or just relax. You'll always find a spot worth a breath. I'll definitely come back and enjoy the scenery again. Hopefully it will remain this beautiful for many many years even though it's a touristic hotspot.
S. R.
Great place with great hiking tracks, I fell in love...
J. S.
Awesome place. The best beaches in New Zealand are here. I think it's a must in South Island. A great trekking to do it in 2 - 3 days, also you can do it kayaking. Great views and landscapes. Everything is beautiful. Loved this place!
C.
Very pretty national park! Great walk with constant beautiful views and quite beaches. It would be nice if there were a loop option so that you could see a different path walking back. However, I think most people get a boat ride one way and hike the other. Wish we would have done that.
M.
well maintained track. recommended for hiking lover
H.
Beautiful weather great beaches and a great walking track to show the beauty of the south
S.
I have visited Gorgeous and divine Abel Tasman NP twice. First time It blew my mind as I did snorkel and scuba at Golden Bay and I highly recommend doing it. Hired a boat and instructor at Kaiteriteri, a beautiful little town, then to Golden bay. 2nd time when I visited with my mother, we stayed at one of the backpackers in Marahau next to the beach. It was an memorable trip, I highly recommend this little NP filled with heaps of walks and activities.
I have lived in NZ for 8+ years so I am 100%. :)
a.
A special place. Picturesque sceans all the way. This is a most beautiful walk. Camp sites good, huts good. Huts have no gas. Would walk this again in a blink. Down side but only slightly ferries bring day trippers in to more popular beaches 100's.
D.
Amazing place .
If you love the nature and you love to hike and walk, that's the perfect place for you .
Tips: check the tide of the day to cross some parts .
K. B.
One of the most amazing places in the world. We did a 5 day hike staying at 4 different campsites. Stunning beaches and native bush. Good on you DOC for taking such good care of this gem so that we get to enjoy it. I can't wait to come back!
張.
Good place so much tracks
G. L.
Wonderful beaches with forests right beside them! Can be a bit busy with the waters often full of kayakers, water taxis, and tour boats. Still a beautiful place, especially when you get a bit off the beaten track
P.
Beautiful picturist stunning views
S.
This is a stunning & beautiful collection of elements one would love - green/blue sea, thick forest with ferns and beaches. Trail path is amazing well maintained and you will meet wonderful people on your way.
E.
Beautiful! You could easily spend several weeks exploring the trails and secluded beaches here. Unfortunately, we only had 3 days. Jump on a water taxi or sailboat at Kaiteriteri for easy access to the park. Trails are well maintained, and the beaches are amazing.
N.
AMAAAAAZING PLACE! So pretty and easy to get around with cars, kayaks and water taxis.
M.
Great... first time I saw fernhills here. Beautiful views from the tops and beautiful bays
P.
Even under the rain this is one of the best places on Earth.
Whether you hike it on foot or get dropped by boat for the day this is really a beautiful, serene place, where you can see if you are quiet multiple species of flightless birds that are endemic in the area.
M.
Awesome park great walk and great DOC hutts
D. M.
Very cool national park offering a variety of tours and tracks for everyone. Saw dolphins twice and a lot of birds. We camped on DOC grounds and carried all the gear with us - can be easily done in 4 days
J.
Absolutely amazing, there is no word to describe Abel Tasman National Park. We went on the Wilsons Abel Tasman 3 day guided walk and kayak tour. We walked from Marahau up to Totaranui Beach. Your feet and back may ache but it is absolutely worth it.
A. M.
Only went for a short walk here, but it was amazing. The walkways are very well kept but the park itself retains its wildness. The wildlife is amazing; some can even be friendly if you're quiet enough.
R.
Another great trip into the park
C. C.
At Easter camp sun sets and Sun risers are jast wonderful
M.
We had a awesome afternoon with Paul our guide in the water taxi. He was very knowledgeable and accommodating, going above and beyond to make sure we got to see the best of the Abel Tasman park coast line. We would recommend Abel Tasman Aqua Taxis to everyone.
Marion & Mike B
C.
It's pretty but so very busy, full of tourists coming and going. This is not the secluded park the pictures would lead you to believe it is. On a boat trip we probably could have counted over one thousand kayaks and the beaches were as busy as an average city beach. I doubt we'd go back
C. B.
WOW !!!!! What an absolutely beautiful piece of nature. We did a 17km walk and loved every minute of it. We were dropped off by boat at Torrent Bay and walked back to Marahau. We walked down to beaches on the way. I do suggest you take lots of water and something to eat. It's a long day and just you, nature and all the other people enjoying the beauty on offer.
G.
Golden sand estuary and beach amongst the coastal forest, in NZ's sunniest spot. We got dropped from Marahou to Anchorage on the aqua taxi to do the Canyoning - highly recommended - and walked from there, staying at Anchorage, Bark Bay and Awaroa Glamping (very cool). The DOC huts are great - remember to bring your own food, places and cooking gear. You can camp or stay in the hut dorms. Very tidy and nice facilities. If you want to enjoy the walk - put your heavy gear on the aqua taxi to drop off at your next stop, they do this all the time for a small fee.The highest elevation is only about 120m, the track follows a contour between the beaches and about 60m most of the time.
j.
Wow! A major tourist destination that is well worth exploring. We travelled by water taxi to the top of the reserve and hiked back 2 hours through beautiful native bush to be picked up by taxi again and returned to Kaiteretere. Excellent service that runs up and down this coast twice a day so you can hop on and hop off where it suits you. Reserve has well maintained tracks with various challenging walks depending on your ability. We stopped in the water taxi on the way to view seal colonies and other interesting natural wonders. We had a 4 yr old and 8 yr old with us and they coped well with the walk. Weka's come out of the bush to check you out. Beaches are magnificent so recommend you wear swimsuit under your comfortable hiking gear. Wear good walking shoes and take a camera.
e.
This is a trecking, boating, kayaking park. And completely worth every cent
T.
Spent a day spend a week paradise dont forget your deet tho
M. N.
I went on a boat tour of the park before going on a hike, and this is a beautiful park, especially on a gorgeous summer day. The boat tour let me see a lot of the park that I would have missed just from hiking, so I am glad I did it.
I hiked from Torrent Bay to Bark Bay yesterday, and the views were incredible. I only saw two people hiking in my direction, but I saw quite a few going the opposite way. The trail was fairly easy and well groomed. It says the hike will take 2 hours and 10 mins, but if you are a fast-ish hiker, it may take you 90 mins or less, even with breaks. I would recommend this park to everyone.
N. K.
Beautiful beaches, not too many people, and something new to discover every time we visit. Glow worm caves at The Anchorage, magic beaches and swimming all day. A must-visit if you're in the area.
M.
Brilliant viewpoints from hiking. Loved the varying beach sands (black, golden, white). Water was so crystal clear. We could see the stingrays. Pristine and breathtaking
S.
Amazing place . Just loved it. Take the boat trip if you can. You see so much more.walk to your hearts content. Hop on hop off boat
K.
Travellers or locals will enjoy this place. There is so much to do and see. We went sea kayaking and saw seals. Talking with the local guide he also sees dolphins, turtles and whales. If you love the outdoors this is a great spot for you!
F. S.
Beautiful national park, amazing regenerating native bush with wildlife including seals, birds and penguins! The water is warm and clean. Amazing to kayak, walk or swim.
N.
This is a wonderful place but don't expect to be able to drive to the beaches. Coquille beach is probably the furthest you may wish to walk from Marahau (3.5km) Otherwise use a water taxi. Walks between some taxi drop of points may be upwards of 10km so if you are not reasonably fit this area may not be for you. If you are you will be rewarded with some stunning scenery.
A. T.
We walked a day and a half along Abel Tasman shoreline and stayed at Awaroa lodge for one night. Experience was so enjoyable. The staff from Aqua tours were so well organized and staff at lodge were friendly and very helpful. I highly recommend doing this trip.
n.
Did the full track in December, it was a spectacular hike! Perfect combination of exploring tropical nature, wild animals (beware and be amused by the sneaking weka!), countless paradise beaches and easy hiking.
J.
A true national treasure. Walks are well formed and many parts are friendly for kids. Walk as much or as little as you'll like.
L.
You can basically hike for a few hours or few days and anything in between. Access is only by boat so you can choose one of around 8 drop off and pick up points along the parks coastline. We used Wilson's who were excellent but there are several other operators. One of the advantages of bost access is that you get to cruise to your destination, which usually includes a commentary and opportunity to view and photograph Split Apple rock.
C. C.
One of the best places in NZ. It is a must do once visiting. I've been here a few times and in my opnion the best way of doing it if you have only one day is to walk up the track to Anchorage and come back by water taxi. The track is 11.8kms long and it takes around 3 hours if you go straight there but give yourself some time to visit the other beaches. Leave Marahau early and try to book the last water taxi which is at 16:00 pm if I'm not wrong. Go and have a great day. Best to visit in summer too. Winter is nice but you can't go in the water
S.
Incredibile beaches and walks: simply beautiful!
Bring your own food/drinks and bring back your own trash.
Lots of water taxis and bigger boats are a tiny spoiler compared to the beauty of the park.
P.
A wonderful place, peaceful and beautiful!
C.
Best beaches, golden sand, clear ocean, best walks, nature in all is abundance, nothing quite like it really...5 + stars! (pro tourism operators too make for an awesome experience)
A.
The water, the natural beauty will makes you fell great.
Z.
🥰
S.
Able Tasman national park is a must visit place for everyone travelling to new zealand! Everything is just impressive. There are so beautiful beaches and bays. The forest is awesome as well. Infact everything at this place is wonderful and impressive. It´s so a wonderful nature.
You can walk so many paths with the duration you want to. Or even make a more days walk...
L.
The track is very easy going and not technical at all. A few good views of the bays along the way. Hut are kept very well and are in great condition. Overall a good experience. I would o my recommend to beach and ocean lovers. It's similar to the Thornsbourne Trail on Hinchinbrook Island in Australia.
m.
very nice view, beach with very clear water ..just blue. u could have tour around with ferry that provide by tourism department. i recommended you dont miss this tour ..there is shuttle bus will drive you to go. the price is average $$...
H.
Super nice beaches and walks. Tide crossing and trail walks was really fun! Not as "out in the bush" as I thought it would be but never the less astounding! +for the watertaxi guy having humour
D.
This park offers an opportunity to people of all fitness levels to get amongst some stunning natural bush and beach environments with easy access in and out and opportunities to do single day or overnight stays in DOC huts or camping.
K. s.
The park was founded in 1942, largely through the efforts of ornithologist and author Pérrine Moncrieff to have land reserved for the purpose. Moncrieff served on the park board from 1943 to 1974.[2]
The park was opened on the 18 December 1942 to mark the 300th anniversary of Abel Tasman's visit.[3] Those in attendance at the opening ceremony at Tarakohe included Charles van der Plas, as personal representative of the Netherlands' Queen, Wilhelmina. The Queen was made Patron of the park.[4]
The idea for the park had been under consideration since June 1938. The Crown set aside 15,225 hectares (37,622 acres), comprising 8,900 hectares (21,900 acres) of proposed state forest, 5,809 hectares (14,354 acres) of Crown land and 554 hectares (1,368 acres) of other reserve land for the national park.[5] The Golden Bay Cement Company donated the land where the memorial plaque was sited.[3] The area's primary historic interest was the visit of Tasman in 1642, D'Urville in 1827, and the New Zealand Company barques Whitby and Will Watch, and brig Arrow in 1841. The site was also of significant botanical interest.[5]
S.
There are so many options to explore the Abel Tasman National Park, from day trips to multi day overnight stays in huts and campgrounds. There are also a variety of ways of getting to the Park like self drive, water taxi, or organized coach trips. The scenery is stunning right around the whole 60 km. The highlight was Separation Point where there is a small seal colony. Just watch the track down as it is a challenge and only recommend doing in fine weather.
G.
Incredible place to visit! Our group kayaked from Marahau to Mosquito Bay and camped there for two nights. We used Abel Tasman Kayaks, they were excellent. Take lots of food and wear gloves while paddling.
T.
Great location. Too many campers traveling in opposite directions along access road. People are coming in at 9 to 11 am. People are driving out mid afternoon. Either sort it out or ban caravans or bike carriers. Campers can register as early as they want. What about safety and access rules.
S.
Great place for Kayaking, camping, swimming and enjoying the Bush walks with golden sand beaches and Crystal clear waters. Great experience, lovely journey, amazing scenery.
J.
Great beaches and rock formations with plenty of local flora and fauna.
Multiple fur seal colonies and decent camp sites.
I would certainly recommend a kayak trip along the coast.
H.
Acessible scenic beaches and good sea kyaking options but it is busy, especially at the southern end of the Abel Tasman track and the camping area at the northern start point of the track.
C. M.
Beautiful place to be. We drove into the Abel Tasman National Park via watertaxi and hiked "back home". Such beautiful views and lovely to walk. We went for a swim here and there, just like a dream!
T. P.
Beautiful place - plenty of tracks, nature information, facilities and fab beaches. Plenty to do - hire a kayak and hike some of the trails. Don't forget to take insect repellent and sunscreen.
T. B.
Beautiful walks and beaches
A.
Went on one trial but most definitely will come back and do a few more. It's stunning and highly recommend.
R. S.
Peace and quiet out in nature listening to native New Zealand birds. Easy paths with good signage. Toilets and Department of Conservation huts for those who want to sleep in Able Tasman or houses that can rented. Water taxi service regularly arrives at various beaches. Flexible options to get off water taxi and walk and catch later taxi.
J.
Mother nature on all her majesty. Must see if you're travelling to New Zealand. Very nice idea renting a Kayak in Marahau Beach and coming back doing the coastal track
P.
Beautiful area - stunning scenery, whether walking along the paths, or from a boat trip. Unspoilt beaches and clearly marked paths. Definitely worth visiting.
A.
This place is beautiful and the coastal track is a must do if you've come all the way to New Zealand. Probably one of my most cherished hikes. If you're choosing between Heaphy Track and this and you're short on time- definitely choose this (I did both, one after the other but loved the abel tasman coastal track much more)
P.
One of the best national parks in NZ. Beautiful beach (can't swim) and amazing hike. If you stay in a remote camp site, you will have a vast beach by yourself.
T.
We went to Totaranui Bay to see the beautiful beach and such a beautiful untouched golden sand beach. We traveled over the mountain on a well graded road thru a beautiful forest. You could catch glimpses of the ocean and beach as we drove. On arriving at the beach a collanade of trees lines the entry. Walk on the beach and it seem to extend forever. Beautifu.
M.
Amazing hike! We did a three day hike from Totaranui to Anchorage (previous day we did a 4 hour hike north to Anchorage). The views are stunning, the ocean was extremely calm (great swim if it was warm).
C.
It's a beautiful place however it's not a back country hike. Car camping with your back pack and very busy. Buy beautiful and lots of wonderful beaches. Try Mutton cove to get away from the crowd.
N.
Peaceful , calm and well preserved. You can walk, paddle, observe pinguins, birds and seals! Great place for tourists who enjoy natural forest, and animals. Beautiful beaches.
C.
We did a 5day hike from Totaranui and down to Marahau, approximately 34km with an additional 16km of detours for a total of 50km of walking, using Wilsons tours. It was a lovely hike, highlights being the constant mix of beaches, mountains and lush vegetation, Cleopatra's pool and watching stingrays and orcas. Would highly recommend to anyone, hiking difficulty is probably 2 out of 5, some inclines but the distances are not long and the track is decently well maintained.
C.
Spectacular! Amazing! Breathtaking! Priceless!
J. E.
Such a lovely walk along the coast with glorious views of the numerous beaches around each corner. The path is shaded and easy to walk although attention is needed as there are raised roots and rock along the path.
N.
My husband brought us here to have our first camping together. We stayed one night in Marahau and started walking in the morning.
The track was well maintained. Of course, some was not easy especially when you had to climb up with your backpack. We had our 12 year old daughter with us so we chose not to walk more than 9 km a day.
We stopped at Observation beach for the first night. It was only our tent this night. Only us at the beach. We saw a seal early morning. Wow, amazing moment. Only one toilet here and quite smelly. The facility here was not good but we liked the place. You had to filter the water before drinking.
We spent the other nights at Anchorage, Torrent bay, Bark bay, Onetahuti, Awaroa and Totaranui. (One night each) There were flush toilets every where except Torrent bay.
We crossed two low tide, one from Anchorage to Torrent bay and another one from Awaroa to Totaranui. You had to check the low tide schedule at each campsite. They would put it on the wall. We did bring our water shoes so it’s more convenient. We had a great time here. We took a water taxi back to Marahau after Totaranui and then a bus to Nelson.
I.
Beautifully maintained walking tracks through beautiful scenery with plenty of lodges, huts etc to stop at, don't miss Awaroa Lodge, great pizzas, restaurant, loverly food and accommodation, dinner tonight was accompanied with an acoustic guitar player who was very good.
P.
Very nice national park. We took a "water taxi" and hiked back (6 h). Highly recommended!
P.
A beautiful coast with fantastic beaches. The boat dropped us off at Awaroa beach and we walked up the bush track past the lodge to the pizzeria for a very enjoyable lunch at outside picnic tables with weka wandering around eying up our food then swimming in the clear sea. For overseas visitors, the weak is a native flightless bird also known as a wood hen. They eat most things and steal others.
L.
I’ve used this company twice now to do the Marahau to Bark Bay trip! All the skippers are fantastic, welcoming and knowledgable, the boats are brilliant and the whole experience just perfect. Would highly recommend.
T.
Wonderful walk from Anchorage to Marahau. About 13 km, but allow extra time to visit the beautiful beaches on the way back. Great.
S. M.
Such a peaceful place.
J.
Beautiful sandy beaches, good campsites, the color of the water is amazing. The Staff from Aqua Tours is well organized. The water is crystal clear. A National Treasure.
F. D.
Great place to stay for a few days walk. Tidal crossings and cayaking are great experiences and if you manage to spend a night alone on some remote campsite on the beach, it is amasing.
The only think that spoiles the visit a bit is, that a walking track has been turned into 1m wide flat "turist highway" by heavy mechanisation, especialy in southern part, so you feel like an intruder in the nature.
G.
There is a reason the Abel Tasman Coastal Track is one of the great walks. I hiked in to Bark Bay from the trail head on the first day and then hiked to Awaroa Beach the second and caught a water taxi back. One of the best hikes of my life, no question.
M.
This is a beautiful place to hike. The trails are good, but a recent storm has washed out some areas. The trails are still open, but narrow in places. Still, a beautiful place!
L.
The most popular National Park in New Zealand for good reason I think. Because the track obviously magnificent beaches wonderful bird songs, but watch out for Wekas trying to steal your food!😅I also did part of the Inland Trek which is way less filled with people and far more technical compared to the very easy going Costal Track (for this one I would recommend proper sturdy boota, as I did it in my trainers and even though that was a very light feeling on the feet, it doesn't have as much traction as you want for that root-filled and pretty muddy path, at least up to Castle Rock Hut).
A.
Great hikes, beautiful beaches.
The sea can get quite rough though, so you may want to prepare for that before you go on a boat.
N. B.
My favourite part of New Zealand. You can walk it, kayak it, boat it. We enjoy walking in and out, but the three day wall looks amazing too.
J.
AWESOME ACTIVITIES IN ABEL TASMAN!
T.
Fantastic hiking and kayaking area. Despite warnings of it being overcrowded during new years we found it less so. Great variation of terrain and views.
B.
Beautiful park, my family has roots here. Somewhat ruined now by water taxis, helicopters, and over zealous park rangers, but still beautiful. Try the natural water slide at Cleopatra's Pool.
A.
I loved our hike through Abel Tasman. It was absolutely gorgeous, and there are regular flush toilets. Make sure to book the water taxis ahead of time.
E.
Definitively bring lots of sun screen and water. If you like hiking and swimming this is the place for you. Try Bark Bay and Tonga. Also they have a seal colony. Try Wilson tour company.
A. T.
Beautiful track, viewed several Weka and more fantails I've ever seen, plus bellbirds and tui. Wow! Great cafe at the start/end too tho closing for the season next week.
D. Z.
It's a MUST visit destination at Tasman region. Recommended route: starting from Kaiteriteri, book Aqua water taxi or sea shuttle to get onto one of the bays then do hiking (depends on your ability and needs), then get picked up by the shuttles services back to Kaiteriteri.
D.
A 10km winding dusty dirt road takes you up and over the hills then down to the beautiful coastline at Totaranui. Suitable for 2WD vehicles.
There is a great swimming beach here.
Public toilets and drinking water are located at the Totaranui Doc office.
No shops or cafes near by.
You can also access it via water taxi from Marahau.
K.
The Able Tasman National Park is MUST do if you are in the region. Leave plenty of time to enjoy the walks & stunning golden sand beaches.
A. L.
Glorious sunny weather, great boat trip and kayaking out to see the sea lions, much busier than we thought, good fun watching those doing long distance walks though...
M.
It's beautiful, in case you don't want to walk along beaches a couple of days and get a great mixed experience of Tasman you can start a round-trip from Totaranui to Wainui Bay and back (you can pass the hill top as well).
P. T.
The most beautiful National Park on our trip to the south island of New Zealand! Take your time and enjoy the beaches and waterfront as well as the nice Costal Track!
J.
For international visitors....there are two places you must visit in NZ - Milford Sound and Abel Tasman park. If you only have one day....take a boat/taxi tour from Kaiteri inot the park, eg Totaranui or Awaroa, walk part of the track (eg Awaroa to Tonga Quarry) , and take the boat out. Unforgettable. The beaches along the track are unparalleled - dense native bush, richly clothed in a hundred different textures and green colours , folds down to golden sand and clean blue water. Much of this track can easily be walked by anyone, very young or very old, and it i well worth it. Totaranui at the north end of the park is simply stunning campground, with a natural beauty and isolation unparalleled in NZ - you have to have a tent or a campervan/bus, there is no power, but there is fresh water and decent toilet/washing facilities. It's very busy holiday campground Dec and Jan, but after that...and even in the winter...it is a stunning place to visit and to use as a base for day walks, kayaking, or just reading and soaking up the park's ambience. ENjoy
A.
Fantastic place to go went on water taxis scenic tour best, beautiful you don't realize how big it is till you do a boat ride, stopped at the Totaranui campsite where there are toilets and information center.
e. r.
Amazing place to visit. Beautiful beaches, clear blue water, flora and fauna. DOC have done an amazing job maintaining the track and facilities.
S.
Super area for a longer hike! Really impressive landscape...
(Quick hint: book the campgrounds in advance)
R.
Flat easy old people hikes. Not as much wild life as I thought I'd see. A little over rated. If you're not going to the north west side of the South island don't waste your time.
C.
Absolutely stunning scenery. Recently spent three days and two nights in the park kayaking and hiking. I rate the trip 11 out of 10 ;-)
O. S.
Sweet walk and beautiful beaches along the way. If you don't have time for the 4 days hike, just ask for a taxi boat.
S. T.
Amazing walk, beautiful beaches. Only downside was that there were way too many people on the track as it is easily accessible by water taxis.
S.
If you do 1 thing while in Tasman, make sure it's to go and have a walk in the Abel Tasman national park. It's such an amazing place with beautiful beaches and the odd friendly Weka. A must do for everyone.
B.
Little piece of paradise. Amazing place, with great homes, small beautiful besches (often accessible only by boat or kayak 🛶). A must place to stop
C.
Beautiful coastline and beaches. Good for 1-2 days, but then it becomes repetitive. Also note that some parts are accessible by car, this more busy.

Abel Tasman National Park is situated at the north end of New-Zealand's South Island.
Area of it 22530 hectares.
It is renowned for it's golden beach, sculptured granite cliffs with a scattered presence of limestone & marble and world famous coast tracks.
It is the smallest national park of New-Zealand and was established in 1942.
Rich varieties of plants are found here. The more common forest birds like Tui and Bellbirds are seen here and there. Cormorants, gannets and seals are natural habitat of this coast.
At least for 500 years Mouri lived in Abel Tasmanian Coast and used to live basing on sea foods/fishes. The first European visit was on 18 th December, 1642, when Dutch seafarer anchored their two ships in the aforesaid Golden Beach.
Permanent European settlement was started from 1855.
Key activity of tourists here are walking along the golden beach, viewing plenty of variety of plants present in ancient beach forests along with natural waterfalls, birds and coastal animal specis watching, sun bathing, sea kayaking and swimming in crystal clear sea.
If you want to visit please remember that dogs are not allowed, firing in the island prohibited and you have to carry all the rubbish when you return to keep it pollution free.
Keep it in your must see venue in near future.

Awesome bike ride in Abel Tasman
S.
Come on, it's ABLE TASMAS ...
How does it not rate 5 stars! Seriously; Kayaking great, walking great. Our weather was perfect, perhaps that plays into it, but unless it's raining "cats and dogs" it would be hard not to enjoy. And sandflys not that noticeable (though as I said it was sunny & clear).
L. B.
Very nice day and view around area!
D.
Everyone talks about walking the Abel Tasman. It is way cooler to do it with a sail boat, aqua taxi, a kayak or Eco Tours. There is so much to see that you won't get to if you stick to the beaten track. 🐬
N.
One of the most fabulous places on earth. If you visit Nelson don't miss it.
Golden beaches, pristine bush walks and clear blue seas.
Paradise!!!!!!!
G.
Beautifull park, recommend using the water taxi at Marahau to Barks bay, on your way up they will show you the sealions and then you can have a beautifull 4h walk to anchorage where they will pick you u again.
J.
Special place
D.
Beautiful place to enjoy. We drove into the Abel Tasman National Park via watertaxi and hiked. Such beautiful views and lovely to walk. I Loved This Place!

Beautiful scenery. Great hiking. Beware that when you come in by water taxi, you are not alone on the trail.

M.
Most unbelievable place in NZ! Had an entire beach to myself for several hours one morning, check out Aqua Packers for a great accommodation alternative!
C.
Many absolutely beautiful spots. Don't hesitate to take a boat ride, walk, kayak or any combination.

C. M.
Amazing , beautiful scenery, well maintained tracks. Everyone should visit.
F.
Amazing national park. Long distance to walk and kayak, both really worth it. Beautiful.
P.
I would go as far to say this is my favourite place I've visited. Stunning. Best to go in September/October on a sunny day(s), nice and quiet!!
S. S.
I can sum Able Tasman up in one word- paradise! Kaiteri is comercial so you need to get out on a boat or kayak to ser its beauty. Golden sands, beaches, islands , wildlife: absolutely beautiful. It is a relaxing place, not a party destination. If chance get up to the Fat Tui cafe and be blown away by the burgers. I challenge anyone to have had a better burger in New Zealand 😎😁
D. O.
Took Wilsons Abel Tasman water taxi dwn to Awaroa. Had an awesum day.
L.
Beautiful place to hike. Not for the unfit, a lot of hills put the pay off is worth it.
P.
I liked the place very much but people/visitors should be a little bit friendlier, I mean majority of the hikers don't even say "hi" when passing...
C.
Very good walk we take our 4 kids tramping here often and our 3 year old is able to walk it as the track is in very good condition
T.
No roads get dropped off a boat and walk for miles not to be missed a trip on the wild side take plenty of water, last boat home 5 o🕔.
A. A.
Very nice DOC site lot's of activities great tracks to walk or bike great views nice clean bathrooms cold water only road up is long and winding and very dusty but we'll worth the trip
F.
It's more a highway than a walkway because 2 billion people tramp there... but it is really worth a look. One of the best NP of NZL.
G.
Wilson's delivered one of best holiday package. Hike kayak eat and guided talks where exceptional. Many thanks to our little chief
M.
Everything is very well set up, safe and a pleasure to experience everything. Just fabulous.!

M.
Marvelous forests. A scenery behind every turn
M.
One of the best places to explore. Very lucky to live in Nelson with this place in my back yard.
N.
This is a wonderful place but don't expect to be able to drive to the beaches. Coquille beach is probably the furthest you may wish to walk from Marahau (3.5km) Otherwise use a water taxi. Walks between some taxi drop of points may be …
M.
Amazing hike! We did a three day hike from Totaranui to Anchorage (previous day we did a 4 hour hike north to Anchorage). The views are stunning, the ocean was extremely calm (great swim if it was warm).
J.
Words can't express how enthralled we were at Tasmen. Turquoise water... sharp granite... peace and serenity. If you're on the big island - GO HERE!
M.
This is a beautiful place to hike. The trails are good, but a recent storm has washed out some areas. The trails are still open, but narrow in places. Still, a beautiful place!
n.
Did the full track in December, it was a spectacular hike! Perfect combination of exploring tropical nature, wild animals (beware and be amused by the sneaking weka!), countless paradise beaches and easy hiking.
m.
very nice view, beach with very clear water ..just blue. u could have tour around with ferry that provide by tourism department. i recommended you dont miss this tour ..there is shuttle bus will drive you to go. the price is average $$...
C.
It's pretty but so very busy, full of tourists coming and going. This is not the secluded park the pictures would lead you to believe it is. On a boat trip we probably could have counted over one thousand kayaks and the beaches were as busy as an average city beach. I doubt we'd go back
M.
Absolutely fantastic hike along the coastal path. Fantastic views.
D.
One of the best places in nz, chill out in nature, easy walks even in hot weather, sheltered by trees.enjoy
