Reviews of Kuirau Park
L.
Always a great walk through here. So much thermal activity, lovely gardens and walks. The new footpaths are great and it's all free. Saturday morning market is always fun
C.
Great place to bring the family for a day out. Plenty of picnic tables, natural beauty and a bbq if need. Enjoy a stroll through the park and admire the geothermal mud pools with plenty of hot spots to check out. Comfortable setting to wonder and explore, with a playground and basketball court to keep the kids busy. Highly recommend👌
R.
A very lovely, huge park to visit. It took us about one hour and a half to walk around the park and enjoy the beautiful scenery with those natural thermal water lakes. Might be boring for the kids to walk around though, but they do have an interesting playground just by the carpark area. To sum up, if you are someone who love to enjoy the calmness of nature so much and want to find some quiet, beautiful place to rest your mind for a while and find peace within yourself, Kuirau Park is definitely worth it !
G.
Really good experience
Just to understand what is geothermal activity.
Its for free to be visited as it is a public park.
Have a small section made to soak up your feet and even your self but need to keep you head above the water.
Have a walk around, may be a coffee and a snack on a relaxing sunny morning.
V.
Nice place to walk around and see all the mud pools..
Sad to see some of the places have been closed..
C.
Super experience to walk in a parc like this. Can't believe it's free and in the middle of Rotorua ! Loved it, it's a must see
C.
It is great to see how this park has evolved over the years. But at the same time to see that which has been around for over the last 60 years at least still standing. Still a lit of work to be done in upgrading facilities. But love the play ground area and the newer foot baths .Would like to see a hand rail at the foot baths to help us older folk to get up from ground level though. Like the BBQ zone also
V.
Several walks wind through the park, taking you to the crater lake, mud pools, hot springs, and a free thermal foot bath, all set in a wonderfully groomed landscape.
P.
Nice open grassed area to enjoy along with a big playground public toilets and a basketball court. There is a market in the weekend and it's all within walking distance to town.
Y.
Nice park with wonderful views.
G.
Safe thermal stroll in the middle of Rotorua. Great indoor pool and fitness facility with heartland rugby on hand in season. Weekend market and marae, it's all there.
L.
What a lovely place. A small playground for the children and various hot springs and mud holes as well as Lake Kuirau. There are also several places to stick your feet and an outdoor BBQ. Great place for an hour or two. The paths are well kept and good for running biking and walking. City style stroller friendly.
J.
Kuirau park is a nice easy walk for all. It's a huge area safe for kids to see geothermal activity. It's a free & right in the city centre. There is a playground, toilets, BBQs and picnic tables. Parking is available around the park, there is also a food trailer selling all sorts of food during the day. Great place to stop for a break, lunch or to take photos. Lots of info dotted across the park. You will get a whiff of the famous rotorua sulphur smell here. Thanks to the local council for providing this amazing well kept park for all to see.
P.
- best thing is that it's free - so much thermal activity to look at and explore with plenty of story boards. There were many great parts to this park, thermal pools, bubbling mud, playgrounds, gardens, historic sculpture, parkland etc but the best part for us was the footspa where you could casually let your feet soak in hot flowing water.
F.
It looks so cool here! You feel like you are back in the time of the dinosaurs. Sadly it also smells exactly like this (sulfur in the ground).
Watch out that you stay away from the hot mud pools (they can easily burn your skin!)
But definitely bring your swimsuit and go into the hot and cold river how the locals call it. It's a river where really hot water from a spring and cold water from a river go together and you can swim there. Really nice and you can choose your temperature just like if you take a bath. Really cool!
D.
Beautiful park, totally worth a visit if you’re passing by. There’re a few smelly hot ponds and if you’re lucky you can even see some smoke coming out of the hot water. The park is in perfect conditions and has lots of picnic
tables under the trees. The government gardens are 3 blocks away and totally worth the walk.
J.
Best free place to visit thermal pools in the area. Lots of great features, playgrounds, walkways, etc.
Glad I went here rather than having to wait on a tour someplace for a bunch of money.
Highly recommend for anyone taking a quick visit to the area.
N.
Great free activity for all of the family.
Plenty of free parking.
Good paths for all abilities, prams and wheelchairs.
No dogs.
Fun geothermal vistas.
Thermal foot baths, with plenty of options to soak your feet.
Lovely well kept park. Grassy areas for picnics, flowers, natives and plenty of different parts to explore. A must see!
M.
Awesome place on a sunny day, kids can play in the playground, and I was walking and finding plenty of oppurtunities for good photos.
If you're out of things to do in Rotorua. This place is highly recommended ;)
T.
Park in the middle of Rotorua. It has a lot of thermal activity going on which can be enjoyed by a short walk on a very well kept track. The foot baths are very clean and well kept and close to the parking and kids playground. A must visit if you are traveling on a budget
Gives you a glimpse of how close you are to the thermal activity in Rotorua.
D.
Want a geothermal experience for free? Look no further. This is a must do, while in Rotorua. Lots of geothermal mud and steam to be experienced here. All within a short distance of the CBD too. Excellent parking. Excellent walking opportunities amongst the trees and well maintained gardens. Playground for the kids. Benches dot the park along with epic photo opportunities. Lots of areas to run, play as well as relax also. A place to visit any time of the year. Saturday morning sees the area adjacent the playground turn into a vibrant market offering up yummy food stalls along with lots of art and craft. The warm footbaths are a must too while there!
A.
Really beautiful free entry park with dozens of thermal water and mud pools steaming with vapour and some even coloured orange and green. It's really beautiful to come at sunset when the light is orange-yellow, the mix of colour and the steam is quite magical. My favourite attraction in Rotorua.
K.
Beautiful well maintained Park, lots to read about the history of it. A good walk and beautiful scenery. There's a bit of smell but you'll get used to it within 5 minutes. Central location and lots of free parking available.
M.
First time I've seen any kind of geo thermal activity which I thought was quite impressive. Quite a big park and lots to see and explore. Even has an area where you can safely dip your feet in some geo thermal warmed water. A must see if you've stopped in town.
M.
I came here for an early morning walk and was amazed by the amount of geothermal activity. There were plumes of steam and bubbling waters and mud every few metres. The park is also extremely well maintained and kept in pristine condition making it one of the best and most beautiful public parks that I have ever seen. I came back again in the afternoon and there was nowhere near as much of the steam and bubbling. I don’t know if this is usually the case but if so I would suggest a visit just after dawn.
S.
This is free, fantastic and I can't recommend more! If you wanted to go to a geothermal park but the prices are staggering go here instead! Plenty of parking; I recommend coming a little later in the day when it's cooler, I came back few times over a day or two to really see it all and it's different each time depending on the weather which can change the amount of steam! There is also more to see across the road WITHIN the park, you'll see what I mean if you drive IN to the park rather than park in the little gravel parking stops. Definitely look over every low-boundary-fence-thing too because there is something to see in almost every one!
M.
Doesn't get much better than this..... Your very own beautiful park in centre of town, Rotorua you are so blessed to have this free thermal activity park, pretty ponds, mud, steam pools & gardens at your finger tips 😂
Getting out in nature is so beneficial for your mind, body & spirit.
highly recommend, a must visit at least once a week for all you locals
J.
The park gives great access to sulfur pools and should be seen by anyone in the area. It can be quickly traversed in a matter of 30 minutes or enjoyed over a longer period.
In the mornings a local farmers market opens in the square next to the park where local food is sold as well as some knick knacks and craft items.
B.
Awesome slice of Rotorua in the heart of the city. This park has a little bit of everything. At the far end there is a fairly serious geothermal area with a large steaming lake, boiling streams and mud, some thermal landscaping where a geothermal vent has been turned into a volcano-lookalike, thermal footbaths which are free to use, a playground for kids, open area for markets every weekend and various other green spaces & geothermal areas. All for free!
M.
Go have a walk here to see the thermal pools and experience the sulfur pool look and smell. Park setting and entrance is free.
M.
Lovely park that has plenty of hot springs and mud pools to explore for free right in the middle of the city.
G.
Amazing place to visit if you want to see (and smell) some geothermal activity closeup. Some excellent photo opportunities and a brilliant outing. Must do if you are in Rotorua.
T.
Awesome park take a walk around the mud pools fresh air foot baths I think there is over 200 pools there go check it out
S.
Pretty amazing site to find in the middle of town, very nicely kept, with a new pair of pools to sit and dip your feet in to the naturally hot water bubbling up from the ground. Looks like more building work is in progress (Jan 2018). It's a shame some litter has been tossed around, but still a beautiful place to explore and take picures of steaming pools and boiling mud. Information placards were interesting to read too.
J.
More than expected! We were on the hunt for something cheap or free to start our day in Rotorua and this park did not disappoint. It wss larger than expected with more walking paths and thermal pools than I thought. There is also a very large geothermal pool where you can stand right out over it and be surrounded by steam. The footbath at the end was nice and warm and wasn't too crowded, even for Easter weekend. We went around 10 so that may have helped. Overall, very family friendly with plenty of warning signs. Nice like playground area by the parking lot as well.
I.
Fantastic attraction! A must visit of rotovegas! Best was the lake!
B.
Nature park with foot baths, mud pools and playground, with parking and tables/spaces to eat/hang out. Ample parking available. Very close to the city centre and free. Highly recommended when in Rotorua cbd.
M.
Interesting walk inside a fenced area.
A.
Free walk with plenty to see and a great park for the kids to play on. Well worth the time to visit
S.
AMAZING as usual..!! Can't believe that this place is ENTIRELY FREE to walk through on your own! Kinda defeats the purpose to paying to do see this elsewhere! The smell of sulphur was fantastic and the bubbling bud pools serene. This is A MUST of you are ever visiting Rotovages..!!
c.
Great park to see mud pools and steam coming out of the ground, and its all for free.
S.
One of the must-see attractions in the centre of Rotorua... a completely free and dramatic park, full of thermal activity and some of the strongest smells to be found in the area!
If my short review and photos were helpful to you, please give me a thumbs up 👍🏼 Thanks!
N.
A great park to stop by if you are passing through Rotorua for a quick soak of your tired legs. Definitely a place to visit and relax with families with kids
S.
A great free park to see the thermal mud and steam pools. You can walk around at your own pace with lots of good viewing spots, including a bridge that goes right across a large steam pool that looks really cool. On Saturdays they have a market. We had the WORST coffee EVER there. The sign said it’s highly caffeinated and the owner said his coffee is four times stronger than any other coffee but it tasted atrocious- couldn’t even drink it all even though I hate wasting stuff.
C.
Huge park with lots to see. Stroll around the steaming mud pools, the thermal pools and enjoy dipping your feet. Do the weekly flea market (every Saturday morning) or just sit down on a bench and sniff the (not so) fresh air. Ample parking and all for free
W.
Where everything is expensive in New Zealand, any interesting free spots are always a welcome. I love Kuirau Park for the hot springs that they have in there. There are even signboards about how the hot springs form. A great place to walk.
s.
Good place to visit, a bit smelly, due to the sulfer, plenty of room for a picnic, coffee truck's, are around on roadside, in various spots around. We were their on a nice sunny day, nice walking around and seeing the mud pools, and boiling water.
S.
Great free park definitely worth a visit - the hot foot spa is just off the car park - the cold one is next to the pond! Really fantastic for getting up close to the hot springs!
g.
Geothermal park where you can dipping your feet and body, they also provide grill station for you to enjoy food there. A lots of parking space and thermal lake
A.
Great experience, in the middle of the city, free for public, well maintained and convinient. Strongly recommended when in Rotorua, nice park with picnic table, we had lunch here too
K.
It’s place live sulphur water and mud. I love this place. I visit Rotorua many times but I didn’t visit this park before. I need to pay for car parking and entry fees. Because in Rotorua now changing many things for visitors. Amazing place to feel the lives. Good fences so it’s safer for kids.
N.
A beautiful place to sit and watch the simmering waters of the lake, where ducks 🦆 and geese swim at their leisure. No words can describe the feeling watching these life forms.
R.
Excellent park, garden and kids play area right in the heart of Rotorua town. This has natural hot water pools free for public. There is also a pool to dip your feet in the natural hot water. This place also hosts a market for the local vendors on Sundays. It has everything for all generations and a must visit for any family visiting Rotorua. What more it’s free of cost.
S.
a gud place to visit in the evening time after the closing time of all the other attractions in Rotorua !! There is small play area for children and ofcourse the other main attraction of this park are the geothermal stuff that can be spotted on and off throughout this park. The other thing one can really enjoy absolutely free of cost is the hot pool where u can just immerse ur feet and get ur body relaxed..kind of a sauna pool.
I wud recommend this place if u have spare evening and have enough time in hand before you head out for dinner. A place to be explored and enjoyed !! It has something for all age groups !!
P.
Some cool different coloured themal ponds. Can soak your feet in the new foot spas. Bubbling mud. Excellent free activity with playground and lots of open space.
M.
A very calming scenery. A place we went in the afternoon for a bike ride and skateboarding. Very quiet and kid friendly. Your kids can enjoy a bike ride in the entire park while enjoying the greenery view. For those who love skateboarding, will also enjoy the same. There’s also a playground which the kids would also love while the parents can have their bond also. There are toilets, benches for picnics.
A.
A free park, there are a few pools to watch the geothermal effect. Bubbles, hot water and even mud. There are some nice landscaping, and even a corner for you to dip your legs in the water.
S.
This park is amazing. So many mud pools. Very impressed. On a tight timeline, this place ticks off on geothermal excitement.
Go here. It is great!
D.
Lovely park with a good exhibit of the geothermal activity. A snippet of all the geothermal parks around Rotorua, but if budget is an issue, this, wai-o-tapu mudpools and free natural hot springs; and kerosene creek would be sufficient to make a good trip! Lovely vegetation in some areas besides the manuka and Kanika surrounding the hot areas, and Lake Kuirau is just BREATHTAKING! Don't stop where you can dip your feet in the warm water... Keep going to the edge of the park towards the large lake where it's steam just clouds the horizon! And head back for another dip to relax your legs ;)
D.
Nice free thermal park, they have beautifully updated at the last few years. Also has a great foot soak and good playground as well.
F.
Mystical, fun and free! I can imagine this place would look amazing in winter! Steamy pools, bubbling mud and an unforgettable aroma! Try the free foot bath that heated by nature! Beware of amoebas so don’t let gives splash around too much.
D.
We went to Rotorua for a birthday party and decided to stay over the night . Didn’t want to spend a lot of money so looked for free things to do in Rotorua. I’m glad we went to this park as it was perfect t for my 6 and 7 year old children . It was a great taster of what mud pools and thermal pools are like . We even walked across a bridge that spanned across the boiling water !! My children thought it was great . There is also foot baths and kids playground and plenty of car parking . I would recommend this park particularly for families with children under 8 .
A.
Nice experience of geothermal activity right in the middle of the city. In afternoon hours little overcrowded by asian tourists, better to ho in the morning. Great thing is that it's free! And you can stare at mud pools, steamy streams amd so on. Little smelly :D
O.
Legendary Park
Thermal activity all over
Public Footbaths are amazing/Relaxing
Great place for a Family picnic, gathering, fun game of rugby. Saturday markets/attractions
Awesome place to walk around and explore.
Located in Central Rotorua basically opposite hospital and close to city center and other amenities
A must visit place. Enjoyed our visit there.
I.
Very nice and beautiful place to walk around. Stunning!! There is a nice place to soak your feet in the thermal pool.
A.
Proper experience of thermal pools and it's free. Open almost any time. Also has two mini pools for a short feet dipping experience.
B.
Great place to walk around and observe the hot pools for free. There are 2 pools that you can dip your feet in but are quite popular, at least while we were there. Tour buses stop to take advantage of the location but the crowd was not overwhelming.
g.
Gorgeous park. Well worth a visit
D.
If you do not make a trip here, then your vacation wouldn't be complete. It's a natural wonder of volcanic beauty that's just hard to put into words. Be awed and mesmerized by nature's creation.
V.
The north end of the park is where you find the more dramatic hot springs.
A.
I love Kuirau Park, it's a very nice place for walking around..
K.
Beautiful place in Rotorua. The garden, flowers, sulphar water and also a park for children. Awesome place to visit. An excellent place to spent time.
s.
Very cool to see and visit. Prepare yourself for the small though! But a definite must when you're visiting around Rotorua
H.
A good place to observe geothermal activity for free. The best is the two footbaths where u can soak your legs for free. Remember to bring a small towel to wipe ur legs. Ample parking space. A cool place to take unique instagram-worthy photos.
m.
Like being in another world. Bubbling mud is amazing to see with your own eyes. All free and open to the public and beautiful
N.
Beautiful way start your morning a nice nature walk and a waimirimiri (water massage/healing) what's even cooler theres plenty space for family gatherings good bbqs playgrounds local pools and it's all free!
L.
Free geothermal park in Rotorua, interesting and enjoyable, smells of sulpher depending on wind directions.
M.
Indoor pool doesn't have much ventilation, and not being able to take our own food was a nightmare as the food available to purchase was extremely expensive and of small portions
C.
It's a very pleasant park for walking along the beautiful garden and soak your feet in the warm pool.
J.
Large park with many areas. We went through a steamy area, well protected by wooden fences. Was the view from the YHA we stayed at.
D.
This is a nice park to have a short walk around. There are plenty of spots for picnics, which is nice.
P.
Awesome free place to visit and see some geothermal activity! Highly recommend 🤠
N.
I have been here twice already. A free and close up view of the hot water/mud springs.
Heaps of parking available
B.
Love it here. Went many times when on holiday as a kid, took my kids now taking the grandies. Always worth a visit and play
A.
Totally free and totally worth the stop! Great mud pools only one meter away of you, great geothermal lake in the centre. Worth it
P.
Nice walk and you can see geothermal activities.
K.
Awesome park & scenery. I have gone back multiple times because it's so cool ☺ Highly recommended to look at. Plus it's free. Would be amazing to wake up to everyday. I don't think I could ever get sick of it!
H.
Park in the middle of Rotorua with heaps of geothermal activity and a small (boiling hot) lake - a great option for a short walk or a free geothermal activity in the city.
P.
Great free park to walk around and see the main attraction in Rotorua, geothermal activity: bubbling mud, steaming vents, boiling pools of water and the ever-present scent of sulphur. Kids new to the town invariably screw their faces in horror and block their noses, but within minutes they're excitedly running from pool to pool, dodging the clouds of steam.
It's fairly well maintained, signposted, fenced and safe, but the area is constantly changing, so be on the lookout for new vents opening up.
K.
Spot to check out the geothermal areas for free. This park had some beautiful spots for taking photos.
R.
A beautiful little park with hots springs all through. A great place for a romantic walk on a lazy day.
B.
Nice to take a quick walk around the park for photos. There is construction around the park and there aren't any hotspring pools for dipping as stated by other reviewers.
T.
Nice little Park.
You can see some hot springs here and have a nice quiet walk.
F.
Free park in the middle of Rotorua with plenty of parking. Lovely place to spend a few hours. The park is well maintained but needs better signage (for example a map and directions to key attractions). The foot pools were cold.
m.
A great, free place to see thermal activity. There is a small playground, lots of great photo ops and some great bubbling hot water and mud pools. There is also a couple of small hot water pools where you can sit down and soak your feet. We didn't walk through the whole park as it is massive, but we wandered around for a good couple of hours
J.
Impressive hot pools for free! Visually beautiful, smell not so much😜
W.
Nice little town park with thermal springs and a place to soak your feet in two thermal pools.
K.
It was a must visit place if you first visited Rotorua, especially it was free of charge and there was a playgroud for kids, love this park.
A.
Simply beautiful... Must visit! You probably won't spend more than half an hour to see all the parts but it's time well spent with the natural springs you can dip your feet in, mud baths, a few lakes and some really nice looking flora and fauna.
N.
Nice place to visit with family & friends. Enjoy the foot soak/spa stations. A lovely tourist spot
A.
Always worth a visit whenever we go to Rotorua!
E.
Lovely foot spa in hot water and some hot mud around
W.
I love walking through here on my way to and from work.
It's so beautiful and peaceful, and the natural hot pools are stunning. 😊
T.
If you want to see geothermal features on a budget, this is the place. It's a public park and open all day.
Boiling lakes, mudpools and a hot footbath; all to see and use.
k.
Very nice and well maintained park with geothermal pool! Absolutely lovely!
A.
Wonderful place to have a morning or afternoon walk or to visit with family.
M.
Amazing place!
If you are in Rotorua you should check out! Right in the city center.
J.
Beautiful views from any angle - we had an incredible weather day that allowed for spectacular views.
S.
Park is lovely and well kept. There are several pools that has some bubbles in them. A definate sulphur smell in the air, if you spend long enough you will taste it on your lips. Nice little hot bath for your feet as well. If you are after a 'wow' factor with the bubbling water there are better places. Worth a visit if in the area but I wouldn't drive over 20 mins just to visit
S.
Good for kids. Wild birds with numbers of species can be seen here. Feeding will birds experience.
S.
Good place to relax and enjoy the natural thermal pools
D.
Lovely place to walk around, really nice playground and picnic areas too. Thermal baths you can soak your feet in
L.
Great park, playground is good, soak your feet in the foot pool! Best part is it's free!
A.
Pretty good place to visit. Free! And there's a pool to dip your legs in.
P.
Very nice place, get to see the mud pool and the hot water bubble, going again this week....
F.
I had been in this place with my friends, such a nice park.
J.
Nice big, free park with lots of interesting thermal features to look at. Now with hot foot baths, sit around & relax with friends, walk your dog or have a picnic!
K.
Nice walk and lovely gardens - enjoyed ourselves.
z.
Easy access to the thermal park. Just walk a few minutes from the road.
P.
Plenty of geothermal activity spots, some quite impressive. Best of all, it's right in the middle of Rotorua so you can pop over whenever you have an hour oe so.
J.
Nice little morning walk around the park. Great to see some of the geothermal so close up and for free. It will be nice when the walkway over the lake is open again. The playground was good but the rubbish on that side of the park needs to be cleaned up and maintained.
M.
#free attraction located in the city centre this beautiful park trails around kuirau lake and tells a myth of a taniwha and how the lake got its name, family fun and great for tourist on a budget :) views of mudpools & geothermal activity ,hotpool experience and a park for the kids to enjoy! Highly recommend.
O.
A (literally) breathtaking part of New Zealand's seemingly endless beauty, the bubbling mud springs are utterly incredible, don't let the smell take away such a fascinating part of Mother Nature's wonder.
Besides, you get used to the smell rather quickly, especially if you STOP associating it with rotten eggs and remember it's just sulfur. 😜
P.
Excellent free park. Geothermal area is very interesting. If you are going to other areas it is not a must do, but a great place to go in the evening.
J.
Really cool free park. Lovely gardens, mud pools and thermal activity. Foot pools to soak your feet.
Playground for tamariki and the Saturday market with delicious food, plants and other stalls.
C.
A free geothermal park, a real gem in Rotorua. Bubbling mud pits, steaming pools and cocky pukeko make for a entertaining wander. It's flat throughout, so fairly accessable for all.
R.
Naturally underwhelming, you may see a bubble if you look closely. Referred to as the “fenced in putrid swamp” by my family. Can’t say I would bother.
F.
Nice promenade for family. You can discover thermal activity for free...
P.
Beautiful place close to town center
G.
Nice enough but was shocked to find signage on the way out stating no dogs , since we walked them in from the other side we missed the signs . Otherwise ok but looking old and run down. Clearly not expecting tourists.
E.
It is free and cool to check out. Lots of walking paths.
D.
Nice walk. Complimentary look into rotoruas mudpools and geothermal activitie
M.
A wonderful, free, insight into Rotorua's volcanic legacy
P.
Best free thermal attraction in Rotorua. It's got mud pools, large version of the champagne pools, and foot hot pools to sit by and dip your feet in.
R.
Very pretty spot for a nice walk.
F.
A lovely place to visit but the smell can be quite strong.
B.
Religiously stop here when ever in rotorua or passsing through. Has great and informative walks around the small mud pools. Toilets and playgrounds for the kids. Lovely spots to picnic at, a lovely lake to walk around, foot spa to relax in or the town Aquatic centre just across the fields with is good for the dog to stretch their legs also. Love Kuirau Park, good all rounder👌
P.
There's a dearth of signage explaining what there is to see. It might be good if you have young kids or want to dangle for feet in a hot bath for free but, overall, you are getting what you have paid for.
H.
Great park for chilling out
I.
Interesting place. Right in the middle of Rotorua. A few trails, steam everywhere. Unique features.
T.
Beautiful park with geothermal activity here!! And there's no entrance fee! It's a must to visit at rotorua!!!
C.
Great place to visit and it's free
K.
Best market food ive had home flyig home to nz. 😋😋👌👌👌
M.
Great place to have a market.. Great area to for the kids.. great area to chill lax
B.
Nice walking track with plenty of geothermal wonder in this park. Beautiful view.
R.
Something unique. Smell not so bad. Please tip the guides.
M.
Under L4 today was a very busy day in the park. Other than that KP is always family friendly
R.
Beautiful park to visit in Rotorua. Very cool story behind the incredible lake and geothermal activity all over
J.
It was great and free. How can you go wrong?
V.
We were absolutely stunned at the beauty, the beautifully.laid out gardens, the quantity of thermal activity. We had no idea and loved the 90 minutes we spent there. We took a take away cup of tea and snacks to have as well. Wonderful place to visit.
S.
This is a lovely park to visit while in Rotorua. Cool playground for kids, easy walking paths. Great places for picnics. Was access to other facilities
Make sure you make time to soak your feet, or sit in the free thermal pools. The y let down are the public toilets which are pretty gross, considering how many people visit this park I would think the council wild upgrade and clean toilets more often
J.
This place is highly recommended such a great park for kids & plenty of walkways with lots of geothermal activity this is such a cool place i enjoyed every part of it. It is also a excellent place to take photos please do visit this place.
N.
Amazing place where you can see some geothermal wonders for free. Was the most impressed by a hot lake
A.
Great way to see geothermal activities in Rotorua, without the big price tag!
M.
Good park for kids and family to hangout.
L.
Lovely little park with a great Saturday morning market for breakfast or lunch.
R.
A great spot to visit, easy access for all ages. The pools you can dip your feet in are fun and quite popular. When the wisteria is flowering over the pergola it is just stunning. Loads of good photo ops here.
F.
Very nice park with fascinating sights. It smells of course due to the geothermal activity, but it is well worth the walk. Especially considering your accommodation is most likely within 20 minutes away. It's also a free alternative to the paid sights here, like the Thermal Wonderland.
N.
Didn't get to see whole park but it's cool great walks
Y.
Great park for experiencing some sights and smells of Rotorua for free. Plenty of parking.
Z.
Amazing place, lot of pools with hot water and steam 😁😎
T.
Always lots of fun seeing the free mudpools . Good play area for the kids too
L.
Really impressive spot. Worth a quick stop if you are passing by
A.
A fun walk around the park. A must visit, if you are in Rotorua.
B.
Free hot spring to dip your feet in (not for swimming). It is a bit smelly but no more than the town. Has steaming pile to look at as well.
S.
Great park ...Saturday markets are great ...hot food fresh vege and other stalls ...most often with live entertainment
R.
If you want to take in some free public thermal activity then this is a great place to go. You wont see the vigour of the some of the other parks but it's still great fun for the kids and the foot bath is a nice treat as well.
P.
Surprising park in the middle of Rotorua with so many geysers and boiling mud areas. The children's play area is a bonus.
B.
I love the fact you can come here at no charge and soak your feet and wonder around the thermal springs. My feet thanked me as well!
R.
Amazing free park with great walks and so many awesome sights. Could benefit from a permanent cafe although the coffee cart parked up was great. The only real negative was that there was too much rubbish in amongst the mud pools which detracted from the great sights
s.
Free location to visualize geothermal activity. But sometime sulphur smell can distract you.
Check out the natural boiling, bubbling and steaming geothermal action throughout Kuirau Park, New Zealand’s only geothermal public park. It's free to visit and located within an easy walk from the city centre, just off Pukuatua and Ranolf streets.
Several walkways take you through Kuirau Park to see the crater lake, mud pools, hot springs, and a free thermal foot bath, all set in a beautifully manicured setting dotted with flower beds and native flora.
Kuirau Park is also great place to play and picnic, with barbecues, picnic tables, children's playground and toilets. If you visit on Saturday, you'll be lured by the wonderful aromas of the food vendors and the beautiful fresh produce at the farmer's market held every week from 6am to 1pm – perfect for breakfast or lunch!
C.
Really nice to enjoy the scenery and dip your feet in the hot pools, play at the park and almost every weekend they have a market. Its a pity the homeless use this place to live or beg, besides that i give this place a 5 Star.
R.
It had an amazing aground for kids here and plenty of winding open spaces for wandering in amongst gardens.
V.
Early morning walk in the park was a great experience for my sister visiting from South Africa
K.
Nice Park in the city center, easy free access and parking! I definitely recommend to check that Park
M.
Went on a foggy day waiting for the fog to disappear. It didnt, so wasnt much of a visit. Foot spas have been emptied I think due to covid, but that's understandable.
T.
Nice well cared for spot
A.
Nice smelly puddles. Needs some TLC. Potential but used condoms on the sides of tracks and plastic bottles chucked in some of the pools really made the visit so much more than just answering questions about hydrothermal vents with the kids.
T.
Not a lot of geothermal activity here anymore, seriously recommend Te Puia, Volcanic Valley, and the Wai-O-Tapu mud-pools if you truly want to see awe-inspiring thermal activity. Though grounds are nice, good playground, and there are some feet soaking pools.
D.
Good place for a walk. Free for everyone
N.
Absolutely worth a visit if you're in the area. It's probably not as good as the paid parks, but it's well taken care of, has plenty of variety and great facilities such as new pools you can soak you feet in, and best of all, it's free!
D.
Very pleasant, even in the pouring rain. Go soak your feet!
T.
Great place to just have a short walk through the gardens and thermal activity. There is also a top notch swimming facility with warm pools. Also a great kids play ground with very safe variety of new age stuff to play on. There are adequate toilets there not the best but ok. But no baby changing facilities.👍🏼😀
H.
Great free place to bring the kids for a run around the steam, mud pools, foot baths and playground 👌
C.
Great park with great food bath and the best, it’s for free!!!
G.
Always worth a visit on Saturday mornings
l.
Our walking group went through the park, it's looking really cool, apart from the dogs running around off lead. Disappointed dog owners cant read signs, we walk in no dogs areas due to some people in our group are scared of dogs.
N.
I always love coming here. The free splash pools are a great touch and the kids loved the play equipment. There are lovely walks that wind around the thermal hot spots. It's a great, free alternative to the big parks.
P.
Rotorua is geared up to fleece it's visitors of it's money, so to have a a place to get a taste of geothermal Rotorua for free is as welcome as it is rare. The council has put a lot of our money into improving this park and it is working out well. If you have kids and need a driving break, bring them to the playground. The park itself has bubbling mudd, stream, and a small boiling lake. Well kept lawns are the place for a picnic and walk it off by walking around the park to see at and read the information boards.
A.
For any international and out of town visitors this is a must see. A huge natural and free geothermal area with several good viewing spots, hot and cold mineral pools you can paddle in or take kids for a safe experience. Several great picnic spots and a good playground. Not a place to go after dark though.
D.
Nice free activity. Short but interesting walk. Couldn't find the car park very easily unfortunately.
K.
Beautifully upgraded, lovely walking tracks and awesome BBQ facilities. Playground isn't what it used to be, but the kids love it. The foot pool is great when it's actually open. Overall a great little spot for a summer day
F.
Its a great park to walk around and see the geothermal activity inside the city and all for free. There are however the mudpools towards taupo which mid be funnier for kids to look at but if you have time take the brake;) this park misses a map especially as the very end towards the lake is most interesting to me but lot people turn around before as they think they saw enough...
R.
the update to the park amenities has improved the walk to no end and the Saturday craft market remains a must visit to stock up on fresh veges and food as well as have breakfast as there is a wide range of market foods available really enjoyed the morning visit.
M.
Cool to see the vents and water pools, we even found one with bubbling mud (we heard sometimes they're more common, but the drought this year has affected the mid and dried it all up). There's one spot they've made safe to put your feet in some thermal heated water.
M.
Was a better place runner in 1970s to 80s toot and whistle the tank dinosaurs in the ponds but not a bad place for a walk and see the geothermal
A.
Really good free place in Rotorua to check out all the smelly boiling hot pools! Love the foot pools where you can sit and rest your feet in the hot water, super relaxing. Big playground for the kids and lots of space to have a picnic or it is close to town to pop in a eat there. Really cool spot.
B.
Bomb pool was awesome. Pricing needs to be clearer regarding the "spa" areas, bouncy obstacle course and river which are all extras. Locals were super friendly and taught us a few tips with our manu's!
H.
Very good park with geothermal activity. A place to sit and dip your legs in hot water and relax.
M.
The Rotorua food market its great, plenty to choose from all types of food, kebabs, rewana burger, fry bread, dumplings chowder, fresh veg and fruit, and so much more, any one coming to Rotorua on any Saturday the Rotorua market is the place for you if love food
M.
A amazing place that allows you to see the geothermal activities of the town for free.
You can put you feet in Rotorua thermal water in a small pool and admire the gardens and birds.
You also see bubbling water and mud and sulfur ponds.
Nice to walk around.
M.
Don't visit the Polynesian Spa in Rotorua. Visit the park instead. It's free to the public with plenty of thermal activity holes to explore. The park has a public area for you to sit down relax and place your feet in the thermal heated water and soak up all the nutrients.
The park also has the bubbling mud and it's free to view for the public.
Highly recommended on your trip/visit to Rotorua.
A.
Turned my opinion of Rotorua around. Great little park, the Farmers market on Saturday morning had amazing looking vegetables. The kids thought the playground was nice, and even despite the rain, we had a good visit. The little public hot water foot pools were clean and very nice. Chatted with a few colorful locals that were lounging there, good times. I'm glad we came.
8.
Needs some signage so you don't walk around in circles and get to see the main attractions. Hot lake, hot bubbling mud. Great tree next to road that the kids love to climb through
J.
What an amazing free venue in the middle of town. It was our first time to Rotorua so we weren't yet used to everything hissing and steaming, and we were completely gobsmacked with this park in the middle of town. It's an eerie spot on a cool morning when the steam is up and you can't see a meter in front of you on the boardwalk. It was great to see the variety of volcanic pools.
J.
What a lovely place, right next to Rotorua's city center! It gives you a good look of the geothermal activity in the area. It is very accessible with willing tracks and ot is free. Streaming, bubbling pools, mud pools, free foot bath, cute bridger with flowers, great for picnic, toilets...
S.
Nice public park that doesn't charge any entrance fees.
K.
A little run down in parts but I see the council are putting in some repairs. VERY interesting though to see the mud pools that have naturally appeared all over the place and lovely to have free a foot soak in the covered or uncovered pools. Also a playground and shallow kids' pool (warmer months only).
R.
Lovely park in the centre of town. Thermal pools throw up eerie steam and mud pools bubble away. Free to walk around, unlike the other geothermal sites in the area. Plenty of parking.
v.
We had a great visit to this beautifully maintained park with free parking and a thermal foot bath to soak in. We would like to warn people of the abusive local teenagers who are targeting tourists trying to steal wallets and cell phones.
If you encounter these teens please phone the police immediately to ensure this park remains safe for all people.
R.
Excellent free park in centre of town with thermal foot baths and fenced off free viewing areas of thermal mud pools. Nice playground. Good parking. Had a coffee van.
A.
This place is great. Playground has something for all ages. The steaming lake is spectacular. Hot spring foot bath. Even some boiling mud. If you're on a budget, or just want get away from all the tourism operations (nothing wrong with these btw) this is a great place to come.
R.
A very nice park which has a variety of geothermal landscapes... best thing is it is free. Well worth a visit, especially if you want to experience Rotorua on the cheap
C.
Beautiful park during Autumn
E.
Natural and free! Footpaths are fun and relaxing
S.
Free public park. Bubbling Mud pools, geothermal pools (not swimmable) but great to marvel at, playground, Saturday food market and foot pools. Great for a stroll with the kids.
A.
We went to the Saturday market, loved it, plenty of food stalls to chose from with reasonable prices, not many stalls had eftpos tho
N.
The surface of the big pond swirls with steam! Small park but a lovely walk first thing in the morning when the air is cold. Plenty of free parking and only a short walk to city center and lake front.
T.
What an amazing park that everyone can come and visit for free! It mostly has mud pools and other geothermal matter on the site. Wonderful!
B.
Interesting geothermal lake and mud pools
B.
Nice place to chill...
A.
Very great place to experience geothermal area. Free for everyone. U can smell sulphur all around the park. Every Saturday there is a flea market (+food trucks, veggie stands too) Every 1st and 3rd Saturday, book sale too. No footbath available. Maybe bc its summer?!
G.
Rotorua Council are doing a great job of making this park top notch, great basketball courts and great tree lined park, very impressed and I've lived in Rotorua for 49 yrs and never seen park so tidy
F.
It's nice to walk through and not have to see all the homeless lying around giving Rotorua a bad impression. Definitely safer and Less threatening.
S.
Beyond worldly. This is a free thermal park with all the features we love! Bubbling mud, steaming vents, black pools and even a boiling lake! Which has multiple viewing platforms and a boardwalk bridge over one side. A must see for all visiting the area.
T.
Great way to see geothermal springs and mud pools for free in the centre of town. Many of the fences are run down but nice to see money has been out into renovating the free foot spa pools - hope they continue to upgrade the rest of the park.
D.
You have to feel this atmosphere when in Rotorua
R.
Awesome park. A must visit in the city. The entry is free. Showcases a wide range of volcanic activity in the region. Very easily accessible. Lots of parking. The foot pools are a major highlight, ideally used after a stroll in the park. Very well maintained. Highly recommended.
I.
Beautiful, nice place for a stroll. Too bad I was there while it was raining. Otherwise, it would be such a lovely place...
B.
Have always enjoyed this park. Even decades ago while a child it was fun.
Children and Grandchildren both now enjoy this park.
We enjoy now the steam pools and new walkways where we can almost become one with the environment for a true in-depth experience.
M.
If your visiting, this place is a must to see & better still it's free. Beautiful walk with mud/hot & foot pools, childrens playground & markets every Saturday.
S.
I didn't know about this place until I got to Rotorua but there are maps in town that point you to it and all the guides and locals will tell you about it. It's an absolutely fantastic spot to see the geothermal activity of Rotorua. It's free, there is heaps to see, and it has a few pools constructed to dangle your feet in naturally heated water. It also has a playground and water fountain for kids. There is so much to do and see here it is an absolute must if you visit Rotorua.
A.
Great place with lots to see for free
g.
Lots of hot pools, over a large area, good variety of features very interesting
D.
Cool place to visit to get a taste of how volcanically active the whole area is. Some well manicured gardens and hot spring feet baths. Perfect place for a picnic or just eat fish and chips as the kids play on the monkey bars.
B.
Such a relaxing place to go and soak your feet in the foot bath, and just chill, also nice hot geysers to go and enjoy free and a stunning walk over the bridge as you enjoy the stunning heat from the largest geyser at Kuirau Park. 😊
Also you get enjoy reading the history behind everything at Kuirau Park. 😉
M.
Loads of mudpools and thermal activity holes throughout the park. A must visit.
N.
Visited Kuirau Park this afternoon & was amazed at the steam from the thermal activity just rising out of the ground along the road! A really unique place where you can watch mud pools bubbling away & steam vapour cloaking the native bush in mystery!
Truly beautiful ☺️
M.
Free geothermal park. The walk around the big lake is amazing.
C.
Great place to take first time thermal visitors on a budget, because its free. Even though there are no spectacular pools, you get a sense of the unleashed power under our feet. Dozens of boiling pools.
N.
The bubbling mud and steam here is better than any of the local paid attractions. More activity and so many more sites. We have been here a few times and will stop by every time we visit Rotorua. Amazing for a free park.
M.
A fantastic, FREE space to view steaming hot pools. Every Saturday morning there is a market where you can pick up some fresh veg and taste some local cuisine.
D.
Something you normally won’t find in any other city.
Natural steam eruptions in the middle of the city
A.
Lots of beautiful flowers and ponds. Lots of birds. There were really cool food market tents, too! But, make sure you bring cash, as most don't accept eftpos.
E.
Easily accessible geothermal activity, and it's free!
Lots of different sites all linked by paths to keep you safe.
There's a great kids playground at the southern end of the park.
E.
Great place to stroll and see active thermal springs and mud for free. Well maintained. Nice gardens and a popular children's playground. Take the opportunity to soak your feet in the mineral foot pool. Pnly missing a playing geyser.
W.
Great way to watch my grandchildren burn energy, race around each obstacle. To watch these kids talk to themselves as they climb or swing always puts a smile on my dial.
R.
A great and free place to see thermal activity. Love the foot pools where you can sit and rest your feet in the hot water, absolute amazing.
Rotorua in NZ is an awesome place to visit.
P.
Unfortunately the thermal foot paddling pools were under construction when we visited. This was the main reason for our visit so that was unfortunate. The rest of the park, especially around the lake, is lovely though and we had a nice relaxing walk around while there.
B.
TBH we were a lisle disappointed by Rotorua, but we very much enjoyed Kuirau Park - one of the main reasons for visiting Rotorua is to see some geothermal activity and we found plenty in a very pleasant hour wandering around Kuirau Park. There's lots of places which will charge you to see geothermal activity and maybe some of the locations are better than Kuirau, but for a simple, interesting and free of charge experience simply wander along to Kuirau Pro which is joust by the town centre.
D.
Amazing displayed ereas /spots of natural wonders
R.
Want to see some geothermal action without paying through your nose, Welcome to this park
The bridge section offers some breathtaking views of geysers, boiling mud etc
Reliving the scenes from Volcano movie!!
J.
Good playground, easy sights of the thermal pools.
S.
Must visit this beautiful place, it's free
G.
Nice park and some fun equipment for the kids. You can also walk around some free open geothermal activity (hot pools and steaming vents). Only shame is its used by many people to eat out and the bins are overflowing. Rubbish was blowing everywhere.
M.
Great place to stop and enjoy a walk, stretch etc... also, great free parking giving access to the upper end of city. Great way of seeing something of our thermal environment without spending money.
T.
This park surprised me with lots of Thermal! If you are looking for free place to see you should be here! Also very nice to have a foot bath after walk 😬
T.
Rotorua lakes council have invested heavily in improving this space, great work. Get place to visit that give you a free taste of the areas geothermal wonders 👍
P.
Very lovely park. Nice park to walk around. Nice to put your feet in the lovely hot water
P.
Beautiful, with BBQs and toilets.
D.
Great tourist attraction geothermal guysers, heated foot baths, shallow paddling pool, great playground, free BBQ Area, lovely gardens, town across the road & aquatic center nearby. Definitely stop here for a break or let the kids have time out.
R.
It's a nice park but thermal activity would be underwhelming for tourists. I think the part where you dip your legs in the water may only happen at night time.
E.
Great free place to experience geothermal activities
L.
Lovely place to spend the day, good park for the kids and fenced off few thermal pools. If you're looking for the full hot thermal spa experience go pay for it at a tourist place, but this is where the locals are
G.
Must see when in Rotorua, totally unique and best if all, free!
K.
Good park with a lot of warmth
N.
Fantastic opportunities every Saturday... entrepreneurial talents on show"
T.
It's a open park, not far away from the town center and the lake of Rotorua. You'll obviously notice it by the smell of the sulphur and the smoke bubbling up in the air. Enjoy a walk early in the morning or on the evening. You can even take your shoes off and soak in the hot water.
V.
A great, free park if you wanna see and even experience the kiwi geothermal activity - there are public hot spring pools where you can soak your feet with strangers (yaaay).
H.
Lovely gardens and park for the kids + hotpools to see.
P.
Right in the center of Rotorua township, it's right by Ranolf and Pukuatua street.
Most parts of the park has been defined for visitors to see it for free, with the natural spring pools, there's also a playground and a lake which is quite good to walk around.
Lots of people just parked their cars and enjoying a free foot spa, it's right behind the Maori structure pillars.
J.
Has a brand new look and more stalls, good place to go in the weekend.
K.
Disappointed to see so much rubbish inside the thermal area vents. Beer bottles and plastic! Then we soaked our feet in the foot bath which was great, and a bunch of Japanese tourists left their tissues that they had dried their legs with, where they were sitting in piles leaving a mess. Did they think someone was going to clean up after them? Hey tourists, clean up after yourselves!! We enjoyed our walk around the beautiful park but not the rubbish.
A.
As pleasant as a covid testing station can be.
P.
Beautiful little spot to add into your trip.
J.
Nice open park with some geothermal features to check out. There's also 2 small warm pools for the public to soak their feet.
M.
Amazing nature at work, nice to have public foot spa pools, some nice walking tracks , easy parking, be nice to see new fences & fallen branches etc & litter removed from thermal pools etc ( sick people littering) always a adventure & education walking around Kuirau Park
M.
Glad it was on today love the steam dumplings
K.
So many things offered here, from a large playground to quiet walks through gardens and thermal wonderland. Footpools for tired feet, or just to sit relax and enjoy. Little surprises around every corner. And on Saturdays there is the Market.
Z.
I thought the walk around was interesting with the different geyser spots the foot baths were GREAT
D.
A good place to watch natural Geothermal activity and hot springs. There was lots of smoke and smell of chemicals mostly of Sulphur. There was designated pathway made to go around. It was dangerous to walk on other ground, because hot springs could erupt anytime any place in that area.
C.
Had a ball here, the fumes make for extremely nice photos and excitement! Now here's a challenge that I underwent, eat a mcdonald's quarter pounder while walking through the sulfur 😫🤢🤮! Definitely worth the visit!
B.
Always a great place to visit, sadly there was quite a bit of litter around the park and the walkway over the water is still closed.
S.
Great place to show off one of NZ's peculiar natural wonders to your overseas friends! Bubbling mud and steaming water is so cool.
There are barbeques, but they're not well sign posted. The toilets are also rather dirty and don't look very well cared for :(
D.
One of the few places in Rotorua your wallet won't get raided outrageously just to see some geothermal activity. Good playground for the kids, foot spas, and plenty of seats.
C.
A surprise for us to discover this place and we don’t have to pay to visit. To take note that there are two different parts to explore. One spot comes with free hot pool and another spot have beautiful and misty hot springs.
M.
Saw the the kiwi bird the first time in nz!
S.
Really cool park with free geothermal pools to walk around. There's one large one that creates alot of steam and has a boardwalk through it, pretty sweet.
T.
Always a great place to stop with the kids. Nice big modern playground plus a whole bunch of geothermal springs and mud pools to look at.
H.
Beautiful park..... the only negative is the one toilet there is a bloody mess and that's with human waste. Make sure you go to the bathroom before you venture out here because unless you go bush there's not a bathroom for miles.
A.
Cute. A couple of big playgrounds for the kids, community center, lake, sports fields and of course the natural hot spots where you can see steam coming through (if u font feel like paying to see them on a bigger scale) and they also have naturally heated foot spas which are great for helping relieve the stress of a long day.
J.
Excellent for wonder around the thermal pools.
E.
Good first stop around Rotorua when showing some tourists around. It's free and they'd get a feel of what the other paid attractions have to offer.
N.
Lovely place to take the kids. Would be better with more dining tables and shaded areas near the playground. But we love it and always visit.
A.
Great little spot to check out some of Rotorua's famous thermal pools. There's even a wading pool to soak our aching feet once you're done walking around the park.
J.
A great free place to introduce our boys to geothermal bubbles, boiling and gallooping. Worth a half hour wander around the north eastern side of the park.
J.
Upgrading foot pools. NO food/bev until Saturday market. Watch out for parking wardens - instant fines for supporting local BOP enterprise & searching for bargain price top quality produce! Beautiful scenery & wildlife. Lock cars, keep valuables out of sight, CLOSE WATCH on children please THERMAL ACTIVITY.
R.
There is a morning market on every Saturday morning. There are stalls selling asian vegetables, fruits, popcorn and some local art works. There are also food stalls selling mainly Chinese breakfast like dumplings, barbecue bun and Thai food.
Kids enjoy there playground here.
There is nice foot paddling hot pool here.
A.
Really excellent place to wander around. Great thermal areas, picnic spots and grandkids thought the playground was a lot of fun.
L.
Love the foot spa went every day during our 4night getaway, the last day one of the foot spas thermal valve was turned off or something so the water was cold like drinking water but the other two were good. The other two could do with more shelter when it rains too
K.
Great free place to visit
M.
Nice public park, full of geothermally active spots showing off contrastingly different acidic and alkaline pools all in the same area. Well with a visit.
W.
Always cool to see the geothermal activity! The gardens were nice and a wide space to roam around.
7.
A geothermal park located below hospital hill. Has features such as foot baths, picnic tables, a kids playground, public toliets, BBQ area. Has a variety of tracks throughout the park to wonder around and explore various mud pools and hot boiling water pools which on a good day are crystal clear. You can bike thru the park on the green corridor cycleway linking town, the lake front, sulfur point and the redwoods. Every Saturday kuirau park holds a farmers market. With a variety of foods and produce to purchase. The Rotorua city council keeps the park maintained well.
J.
Really cool park. Great to take the family and hang out for the day. Nice thermal pool to put your feet in
J.
Really enjoyable walk and scenery for the kids. Very tidy grounds. And great spot to dip your feet in the thermal pools..
T.
A fave from my childhood. Well maintained and free. Has a market on weekend too. Fun playground for kids but fun for adults too. Nice natural foot spas.
H.
We actually visited the Saturday morning market NOT the playground! We hadn't been for a while but the kai was absolutely delicious! Yummiest kai on a Saturday morning, in Rotorua, is at Kuirau Park Markets! They have dumplings, rewana sandwiches, kebabs, fried bread and more... Check it out!
C.
The hot water foot pools were cold. The park has a lot of thermal activity to walk around and enjoy, especially the smell...
N.
Free geothermal Park in Rotorua. Some nice mud pools and hot springs. Be prepared for the smell.
B.
Free look at geothermal wonders in Rotorua.
J.
Great little park to see some steaming ponds and bubbling mud pools. Free alternative for kids that get over it quickly 😉
M.
We spent most of the day there. Plenty of space. Can bring own food in. Cafe is missing from amenities but you can easily bring your own food in
P.
What a great, FREE thermal place to visit in Rotorua. Lovely walkways around the fenced, thermal areas. Lots of car parking and easy walk.
A.
A must see in Rotorua. A free access large park with hot springs, mud pools and foot bath pools. Good for a walk, to experience the magic of thermal activity, seat and relax under a tree.
Y.
Free thermal pool,Great!
w.
Awesome park thermal wonderland
V.
Beautiful to visit on an early sunny day especially on a Saturday morning when the market is on. Great place to have cuppa and breakfast and have a stroll at the geothermal mudpools afterwards..
O.
It could do with renovations with one side of the park where residents reside with interesting paths maybe going over the mud pools and more signs with info about the history and geological info as well.
S.
Awesome and for free... put your feet in the hot water under cover or walk around the large lake of hotwater.. very cool photo ops.
M.
Go to the large pool at the end near the road, away from town- it’s a nice walk, wooden boardwalk and fascinating pool. The rest of the park is interesting and could use some upkeep.
R.
As a teacher in Rotorua I take a group of L2 students there every year to learn about life in an extreme environment and develop their knowledge on volcanism and tectonic plates in NZ. The staff are friendly and if you ask the koroua (elder) will tell you about the history and significance the area has for Maori. I would recommend a visit for all ages to get a sense of the beauty and raw power of mother nature
B.
Totally free thermal park in Rotorua with mud pools, steam vents, and thermal lake. After your walk around the site rest your feet in the paddle pool. Totally awesome place.
V.
My fav park in Rotorua.
L.
Peaceful surroundings and well maintained
P.
Great park where you can see small geysers for Free. Lot of space to go around and a nice space for kids to play. Similar places have entry tickets. So this is bonus in Rotorua.
N.
Amazing place, flowers n trees are beautifully maintained. The geo thermal ponds are awesome
M.
Beautiful walk, parks for kids, foot pools, pools nearby but also is a hang out for homeless mostly since covid.
F.
an amazing experience for the family. Food stalls on Saturday mornings.
J.
Good park to go to. Some nice geothermal vent dotted around which is cool, the playground in fun also.
L.
Go to Thursdays 7 am - 1 pm Farmer's Market for sure. There's fruit, vegetables, cooked meats and more. Go early before the best is sold out!
K.
Many upgrades done and art features added. Great to see families and individuals of all ages using the park for their leisure
T.
Take some time to explore the whole bit. Feet in the pools (bring a towel), play at the park, and walk through the trails at the northern end. I felt like I was in "The Land Before Time".
D.
Definitely worth a visit. Really good walkways across the geysers. The footbath is also really good after spending sometime walking around the park.
D.
Kind of disappointing. Homeless people sleeping under trees, 2 junkies ticked off because there were too many people in the park for them to find a secluded place to get high, and trash all over the geothermal pools.
w.
Good playground, lots of space to run around. Nice walkways to checkout the geothermal pools in the area
A.
So beautiful and very relaxing. Nice fun park and playground for children and lovey walking tracks
C.
Market day,do everyone is our and about, great assortment of stalls and food to choose from
T.
Nice park. Easy walk around the thermal areas. Nicely landscaped.
T.
Centre of Rotorua and has been upgraded to first class park. Good for kids cycles walking, and has first class sports fields and a thermally heated public Aquatic Center.
M.
Nice tracks to walk around and look at hot pools, stinks like sulphur
M.
Love this place, you can enjoy the ponds -hotsteam rising from the ground. Fresh Maori kai on a Saturday morning at the markets, secondhand book sale was a highlight.
R.
Good walk around park amongst the gardens, mud pools, foot pools. Great kids playground. Great place to eat at on Saturday mornings when the market is on.
A.
Cool park with a big playground at one end and bubbling thermal vents at the other. Uniquely Rotorua!
L.
If you don't want to pay to enter one of the thermal parks then you can definitely experience thermal activity here on a smaller scale. The Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland was $29.50 after 10% discount from my hostel and is definitely worth the money to experience the hydrothermal system in the Taupo Volcanic Zone.
H.
Amazing place to witness a variety of geyser activity for free. The northeast section of the park is most active so make sure you make it up that far.
M.
Nice place to have a picnic. The boiling water are fun to watch too
U.
28Sep16 Been coming here since 1988 when our son was born and his grandmother, my beloved mother-in-law, decided that the little train here (in those days) plus the climbing equipment and jungle gyms would be fun for her grandson. Stopped here 28Sep16 for a break and lunch for our Salvation Army Otahuhu Corps church party of 16 en route to Wellington for 2016 Territorial Congress of Salvation Army Territory of NZ, Fiji and Tonga. Very safe here for families and children.
E.
Nice flower garden
T.
What a beautiful park. Hard to believe it's right in the city and is such a sensory delight. Great market each hereSat morning hosted by Rotary.
D.
Definitely worth checking out
C.
Green And Blue and may other lakes. Walk run or ride. And water sports on the Blue Lake. Safe as boat craft and swimmer separated. A must see. And doesnt break the bank account. Serenity

Amazing place, great that it’s free.

Great park, good place for a walk. But only 1 bbq and lots of tourists from tour groups on weekends. Plenty of parking for vehicles. Perfect for families.

S.
Must experience this place and its FREE!!
C.
If you don't mind the smell it's a nice place to spend some time. If you can't afford the time and money to visit one of the commercial geothermal parks this one will give you a bit of an idea.
J.
Good free place to take kids to experience the geothermal area

Well looked after, gives a good taste of rotorua geothermal stuff. Playground nearby for the kids too.
Bubbling water and mud pools, a large steaming lake.
R.
Nice place for short tracking while watching the geothermal spring, especially on saturday. There are fresh and food markets in the park on Saturday...
S.
Perfect for a day out for my kids as well as an ideal picnic spot.
M.
Geothermal playground. .. Hot mineral water foot baths, geothermal activity throughout park, beautiful gardens and walks, and a well equipped children's playground. Farmers market on Sat.am.
D.
As you get to Rotorua for the first time, maybe the best first geothermal spot to look at, to get a glance of what is all about. Free and within walking distance from town centre.
F.
Miss the wee train ride with the dinosaurs coming out of the mist, but well kept park. Great for kids of all ages.
A.
A cute easy walk with some small geothermal features great for a stroll with children. Though not much excitement as they aren't the biggest in the area.
S.
A little difficult to navigate around the park as we were trying to find the free thermal foot pools. We got lost few times. They should put some signage up to the help people out.
G.
Great free thermal park. Don't need to spend money to participate in all that Rotorua has to offer!
J.
The Jewel of the Crown in Rotorua, free thermal wonderland what more could you ask for and right in town. Then there's the bonus of the thermal foot pools to soothe the weary traveler 😍 highly recommend
S.
Good to walk around and when the markets are there. Foot pools are great when theres not somebody washing themselfs in them..Park is pretty dumb so thats a let down.
B.
Ok spot to stop and stretch the legs
R.

T.
Awesome place to come visit even tho it might smell bad but beautiful place to visit while you are in rotorua it would most definitely come back here when I come back down
D.
It was our first time in a geothermal park and we enjoyed it.
Clean and the path leads to good spots. Nice for a walk.
k.
Lovely park and a great chance to see the thermal pools and bubbling mud in action. Great playground and climbing structure for kids.
N.
A great place to wander or have some lunch on the grass. You can also ease your tired feet in a geothermal spring for free!
D.
Good park with lots of steam and mud pools, within easy walking distance of the town center and it's free!
B.
Nice park with some thermal activities. They have foot baths you can rest your feet in. Nice and smelly due to the sulphur but you get used to it.
S.
Very pleasant. Pool to dip legs are new feature.
J.
What a great FREE alternative to the very expensive thermal parks in the area. Good place to stroll about and enjoy the thermal activity.
S.
Very good park and good to know that you have parking nearby.
f.
Good for a walk around but no signage.Maybe some signage about the different pools or possibly names? Alot of available parking
A.
Neat park with thermal pools, a large playground with lots of hardware and a scented garden. The scented garden is in no position to compete with the "Fresh smell of mountain volcano".
P.
Nice walk and the free foot Spa was a nice touch
J.
Was a good surprise seeing a free attraction in the module of town. A good time spent just looking at all the hot pools, some as good as what you would pay to see in resorts.
J.
Amazing, can't believe it's free. So much to see and nice to soak your feet after going for a walk around.
B.
Very pleasant place to go and eat lunch. They have barbeques available for use and an area for the kids to play. B
M.
It's a rather weird place it smells so bad of rotten eggs sulphur but it's quite bizarre right in the middle of Rotorua volcanic mud bubbling up from the middle of the Earth amazing
