Reviews of The Wall and Basement Cinema
R.
Excellent location on Hinemoa Street. Great service. Where else can you relax in a cinema with a glass of wine (or RTD) in Rotorua. Often shows indie films that are hard to find elsewhere. Comfortable seats. Check the schedule, some nights are cheap nights or there are specials.
D.
Throw back in time for real!! It was like when I was a kid! It is cheaper to drive here from Tauranga and get a feed too than to go to the mount for a climb. You can climb ALL day! The coffee is better than coffee club and the size of the wedges for 10bucks was so large we had to take it home! We will be coming everytime we go to vegas. Next time we will check out the cinema too! The guys are friendly and welcoming! true manaakitanga! thank you!
M.
First time there great staff great atmosphere...my son and I loved and are definitely going back!!!
M.
What a great way to see independent movies. Small intimate theater. Great coffee, good service. Down to earth and friendly. Visited twice while I was in Rotorua, would definitely go again.
F.
First time I been out to a cinema since '018 , so I was a little skeptical, about, what kinda place it would be, the movie , what was it about? It was my brothers choice , so hey he is my older brother and its the bros birthday, so what? Well I'm very glad I did venture to this clean friendly, personal place, I think my brother knows the place through his wanting to get more skills in the rock climbing field, everybody knows who he is, so to the movie we go, not before we got coffee in real cups and saucer, delivered by the manager themselves. Ok the cinema was intimate, very cool. there was just us, i think about the first time I ever kissed a girl. Jennifer, we were sitting near the back of the movie theater, i don't know why mention this, perhaps because I was kissing my second girl, also in a cinema, this cinema !!! Its a special place for me now. I will ask her on another date, a 2nd date , hopeful a new movie will come to town we both want to watch. I ❣ stuff about art. This place feels like an artisans movie art house. We Love It
J.
Lovely seats and a cup of coffee, a good film, what's not to like.
R.
Great experience, friendly and welcoming staff...I used to live in Rotorua, but now live in Auckland and it kind of reminded me just how genuine and honest customer service can be - great job guys... will definitely be visiting again!
R.
Small climbing gym with 20m climbs. Has three autobelay devices. Great for everyone from beginners/kids to seasoned climbers.
s.
My daughter does rock climbing, she loves the place, and her friends climb as well
N.

T.
Staff are lovely, coffee was awesome. Showed us all we needed to know to gave a great time climbing. The wall is amazing, huge and brilliant for all ages and experience levels!
G.
It was a cool place to visit , I myself don't climb but two of my son's do .
J.
This place is like an extension of my living room. I turn up with a thermos and a rug at times. Sometimes I order a flat white or glass of wine there. The theatres are small and intimate, the seats are comfortable.
The films on offer are often outside the mainstream movies usually seen in theatres. The basement offers locals and visitors a slice of culture that is wonderful to have in a town the size of Rotorua.
S.
Small and intimate atmosphere. Very comfy couch type chairs. You can have drinks and eats while you watch the movie. Hot chocolate was yummy.
E.
Always a lovely experience
Happy and helpful people ...
w.
Pretty cool little cinema, you can order your drink the staff brings it to you while you wait for the movie to start. I went to watch "the public" tonight written by Emilio Estevez 👍👍 I like the space and its comfortable. The customer service is great too!!
S.
Everyone friendly and helpful
Wonderful picture theatre. Small viewing rooms that seat about 12. You can have ever beverages served to your seat and a nice glass of wine too.
L.
Loved the tiny and charismatic cinema. Very comfy seats, small movie theater and friendly staff. Way more personal than all the chains. Support the independent people! :)
G.
A small intimate theatre. Food and drink delivered to your seat for a "at home lounge " experience. Diverse selection of movies on offer.
M.
I love our local boutique cinema. High quality films, delicious hot drinks and biscuits. Snacks... and wine if desired. Comfy seats and films throughout the afternoon and evening. The adjacent climbing wall adds to the energy of the place. The stuff are courteous and helpful.
H.
I've only been here to go to the movies, which is lovely. But while waiting it's nice to watch the climbing activities going on there
P.
Very different! Small cinema with very comfy seats and it was lovely that the gentleman at front of house brought coffee to our seats.
C.
Great climbing wall full of tricksy problems. Selection of lead climbing, top ropes and auto belay, as well as some bouldering routes.
A.
A little gem for those who love festival films, tucked in the centre of Rotorua. Don't be alarmed that the entry seems to take you down to an indoor climbing centre - they share staff and reception. Quirky seating, tiny cinemas. Friendly staff, coffee & snacks - it's all here.
l.
Love this little theatre, intimate, easy access, great helpful staff, love the coffee table by the bottom row of seating, and the easy chairs, thankyou
J.
We took 2 of our grandchildren there this morning- they had a great time.
There is a large range of climbs available - from those for SOME nanas( not this one :-) to Sir Ed. Hillary devotees (I imagine).
The staff there are very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly- thanks Rex and crew.
S.
Awesome service staff are very polite and very helpful especially with kids. Great place for all ages, the kids loved having an adventure on the walls thank you very much 👍
M.
A quaint and very comfortable little theatre with great armchairs with drinks table , excellent sound . For a special occasion for the people you care about .Next time will try the climbing wall ,,🤗
L.
Nice small climbing wall. Some cleverly set routes. Solid rock playlist as well. Two minor quibbles, some holds were a bit lose and it would be great if the walls themselves had a bit more texture.
A.
Good range of difficulty levels. Easy to use. Friendly and helpful staff. My 4 year old nephew loved it and made it to the top of the beginner walls.
R.

Very small theatre but shows great movies. No surprise that it’s in the basement. Worth checking the program when you’re in Rotorua. Reasonable prices too. Good seats.
Z.
Thanks for a good time. Family fun, Shane did a great job of keeping the family entertained with mini bouldering challenges. Will be coming again.
M.
Excellent gem hidden away. We make an effort to see movies here when we are visiting Rotorua. More of your festival type movie's rather than Hollywood pics.
R.
Children really enjoyed the experience. Great customer service. Will visit again.
