Reviews of Mt Paku Summit
L.
Car park is on Paku Dr where big grass area and playground is.
Walk across the grass upto 1st walkway post and follow it upto the next street above then turn left to the next post then continue to walk up the steps, once you reach the top take another left to next post and follow this track to summit, where you get nice views of Tairua and surrounding area.
N.
Easy climb to the summit, and I really summit of mount Paku. Spectacular 360 view of pauanui and tairua. The last 50 metres can be a bit steep, best to go during sunny and dry day. Highly recommended
D.
Worth it for the view ! Steep-ish hike but relatively easy with a few rocky path at the top. 10-15 minute hike from the car park
C.
Gorgeous view in coromandel peninsula, even better than the cathedral cove and hot water beach. Do not miss the views for such a light hike. If the weather is good you can see a bunch of islands.
J.
The walk takes 10 mins each way. Ignore the sign. Great views.
O.
If you are staying in Tairua, or just driving past, it is 100% worth the short climb. It will take only 45 minutes to head up and down and has some of the best views in the region.
C.
Stunning views from the top. Pity there's a tree in the way or you'd have a complete 360 degree vista to take in. Walk is pretty easy even with kids apart from the last 50 metres climbing over rocks.
D.
Follow the road signs to Mt Paku summit carpark. Then it's an easy 45 minute return walk. Final part of the climb is a little steep but any able bodied person can do it. Stunning veiws at the top. Get there early and have the place to yourself. Well worth the visit.
1.
A fantastic view to be had at the top. Well worth the climb. We walked from the Old Mill Cafe rather than drive, making use of the various walkway "shortcuts" on the way up. The climb up the peak itself is picturesque but a little muddy after rain. The last 50 metres is very steep and will give those who suffer from vertigo a run for their money. The summit has stunning 300 degree views of Tairua, the estuary and the ocean, however it's not an unobstructed 360 degree view. There are, surprisingly, no guard rails at the top, so supervision of children is key since there are rather precipitous drops on 3 sides. There is a car park not far from the base of the peak, and there is a drop off cul de sac right at the base. Sturdy walking shoes are a must, and care when taking photos at the summit. There are a number of interesting historical plaques with photos and text along the way to enhance the experience. The track is very narrow in places so passing groups going the opposite direction is common and requires courtesy and an amount of "stepping aside”. Note that the walk is very popular and the summit can get crowded.
J.
Fantastic walk to the summit and your rewarded with a brilliant view! If you have ever been up to Mt Maunganui this walk is significantly easier and a lot shorter. I would recommend wearing shoes as there is a bit of rock climbing just before you reach the summit, nothing significant but it's a lot more straightforward with the right footwear. Make sure you select the carpark on google maps, dont drive to the summit as you will end up on a dead end residential street. Be sure to follow the signs showing "walkway" see my pics, this way you wont get lost.
M.
Breathtaking view, worth twenty minutes walk from the car park! Little steep but not problem to hike. Enjoy✌️🇦🇺🗻
D.
Great views, pretty easy walk. Parking is an issue for the midway point. Not much room at all. From the bottom is pretty much always available, but a much harder walk. Quite a few seats on the way up with shade.
R.
There's a hike to the top of this hill that takes about 15 minutes (each way) from the trail entrance on Paku Drive. Although the trail gets steep and rugged near the top, it's well worth the effort for the amazing views of the area. When we went we were surrounded by enchanting fantail birds darting around us.
R.
Must go for a short 15 minute walk to the top for an awesome view and a bit of education on the volcano.
L.
Definitely worth the hike! It has some steep rocks at the top for inexperienced hikers but a barrier is present to help with the climb and finding somewhere to park relatively closely is the hardest part
W.
A nice short but steep walk to the summit reveals great views over multiple beaches and the local town there are boards educating you about the geology and history of the area too was a pleasant hike but unfortunately for us the weather wasn't great
K.
The Paku summit is a beautiful summit and you can only get there via a steep climb. But as always it is not only the destination but also the journey...During the climb you can read many educational displays about the history and the trees. You get a 360 view over Tairua and the Shoe and Slipper Island and more
N.
I'm sure I'll go again. It's beautiful
K.
A short climb to the summit of Mount Paku, giving a great view of the Pacific Ocean, Tairua, and the mountains. Definitely worth the climb to catch the sunrise or sunset. Some fitness is required climbing a few rocks.
C.
Fantastic view over the area and sea. 15 min walk up with parking next to a children's playground.
D.
You can drive part of the way to the summit then walk up. Lots of places to stop and appreciate the view, with tree shade for alot of the way. Good pathways, family friendly. You will need to have good mobility and help small children at the upper climb over a short rocky crop to the summit. We took our small dog who coped fine. A fantastic view. (No barriers so look after mall kids at the top. )
K.
Great walk, great views. Just a 15 minutes walk from the upper carpark.
W.
Nice spot, great walk up the hill, fabulous views!
K.
Short steep walk up to the summit but worth the effort when you arrive there. Fantastic views all around!
C.
A must for all those travelling through! It’s a bit steep and the end is rocky so take care. Great views of Pauanui, the Pinnacles and Tairua!
M.
Really nice view from top and worth the walk. Takes approx 45min return and is indeed really steep.
Parking is not possible on that location but on the way up you'll pass a free car park and there starts the walk.
The street is quite narrow and steep. Works for a campervan but motorhomes should park at the bottom.
D.
Great views and great walk (short but steep)
H.
Easy walk from the park with a few steps, about 10 to 15min from the peak. View of Pauanui and the Pinnacles.
R.
Amazing views!
Finding the start of the trial was a bit tricky, head off up the stairs along Paku Drive. There are some steep steps and rocks to climb, but take it slowly if need be as the views are great. Sadly the view to Hot Water Bay is slightly hidden by trees.
C.
Nice easy walk and a convenient car park nearby! worth any walk for them beautiful views!!
C.
This is a very pleasant but very short walk up to the top of the mountain. It has a very pleasant environment and excellent views at the top.
A.
Worth the visit. The walk is short, easy and gives amazing views
B.
Easy walkway and very rewarding view of town, coast and mountains! :)
P.
Lovely walk to the top. Quite steep in parts, over rocks at the end but pretty safe. Great views from the top!
L.
nice view
S.
Great view from the top but the entrance is on 277 Paku Drive. Not on David Mason Drive.
G.
Love this little walk. Short but steep, wear decent shoes, not like the slides my mate broke up there.
M.
Nice steep but short walk up to the summit. Would prefer to have a carpark closer for aged people.but so worth every step.
C.
What a stunning view. A must see. Only a 7 minute walk from the car to the top. It's mainly steps with a few rocks at the top
L.
It was a steep climb even before we got to entrance of walk! Where you park you then need to climb a hill, then some steps and walk a bit before entrance. When you get to top of grass hill from parking spot, turn left to find walkway sign. We went right and missed it. You can easily stop along way if needed. Once you get to natural rock steps on walk you are almost there...it is definitely worth the effort. Absolutely stunning views of vast ocean, surrounding islands, Pauanui & Tairua harbour. Just beautiful. Highly recommend.
L.
Lovely place. The view is awesome and just a 10 minutes walk.
H.
Wonderful view after a 15 minute walk. There is a carpark halfway up the hill. Must-do if you go down south.
P.
Great photo spot. But you can't get to the top like the map suggested.
C.
Beautiful view on a beautiful day!
J.
Great walk up. A few steep rocky inclines, but nothing too extreme. I struggled coming down due to weak knees, but the view is totally worth it. Its truly breath taking and peaceful. Theres a chair up there to rest.
S.
The view is definitely worth the small walk
K.
The view to city is marvelous and also Sunset is amazing
C.
Stunning view from up here, along with an excellent display showing the direction and locations of the various islands and peaks you can see on the horizon.
Driving up and parking on one of the residential streets can sometimes be a bit of a challenge for parking, but there are plenty of walkways through to the various surrounding roads so that this isn't too much of an issue.
T.
Beautiful Summit.
L.
Easy to find.
About 45 min. Return. We took longer because we wanted to enjoy the view. There are several benches to stop and rest along the way. There are many steps and you will have to scramble to the top over exposed Rock.
M.
Great, quick, vertical walk to a 360 degree view of the peninsula.
A.
If your traveling through Coromandel peninsula you should definitely visit Mt Paku Summit. The view from the top of the mountain is breath taking. With this 360 degrees view you can see magnificent sea scape on the east and astonishing mountains on the west. Right at foot of the mountain lies one of the cutest towns in New Zealand. Would definitely recommend!
F.
Nice little peak in a gorgeous beach town.
a.
You can drop off people a minute away from summit.
J.
Great lookout point with almost 360 degree views of Tairua and beyond. There are plaques listing geological information, history, and a topographical map identifying all the islands that you can see. The route is a little steep at times but not for a length of more than 10 to 15 steps. The path from further down the mountain takes you through some private backyards, but if you follow the signs you'll make it to the summit.
T.
My legs will never forgive me! But the view was amazing!
M.
Really nice vista of surrounding area
R.
A perfect spot to get a perspective of a unique part of the Coromandel. It is very step along some of the sections so only for sure footed people. For those who are fit it is about a 10 to 15 minute climb.
S.
One of my favorite places
J.
Neat little hike with good views.
V.
The climb up is easier than it looks, and is completely worth it. The parking was difficult to find, as it's mostly residential areas - don't try to drive as far up as possible, the designated parking zone is near a small park and playground.
S.
Great view of Pauanui. Always a go to when I'm down that way!
J.
Offers a nice view from the top where the trig station is, fairly easy walk up from the parking area near the playground. Some tricky rocky steps near the top but well supported with railings on the side.
O.
If you are in the neighborhood, give it a go.
R.
The local residents have clearly gone out of their way to make this hilltop beautifully green and scenic. It's a wonderful place to go walking! You can also take the walkway down to the beach
B.
Bit of a climb near the end. Took about 15 minutes from the car park. Best to visit about 30 minutes before sundown to get some amazing views
J.
Great walk and views.
E.
My friends suggested we should stopover at this place while we were on our way to Coromandel.
I was sceptical at first, but after we parked our car and just a short walk to the summit.... I was delighted! The view up there is AMAZING! Well worth it.
D.
40 minute walk, steep in places. Stunning views. Lovely quiet place to sit in the park, out of season
M.
Awesome hike. Great views showing the town and distant islands. There is a park half way up where you can park. At the end of the road you can only drop off.
H.
Amazing view and not to hard to get to the top either
T.
Beautiful yellow sand beach with quite environment.
s.
Awesome view and well maintained easy going track.
G.
Very beautiful point to watch the view of Coromandel Paneinsula
J.
Worth to give an hour to paku summit
A.
Steep but short walk with amazing views. Well worth the effort
D.
Great view from the top and well done educational signs about the history of the area and mountain. Last little bit of the track isn't really formed and may be hard for some to make it up/down.
R.
We have a motorhome and allowed to stay overnight in carpark
V.
This is an amazing view when you make it to the top, fairly steep climb and lots of steps but worth the effort !!!!
m.
ALWAYS a beautiful time with family here. Beach around the whole summit with a park at the top. Unforgettable views of God's own.
S.
Stunning views. One of the best 360-degree views I've ever had.
A.
Gorgeous walk through native bush to get to an amazing panoramic view of the sea, mountains, towns and beaches. Highly recommend
O.
Beautiful views 360° of the east coast and the beautiful bop. Watch out for seagulls when flying drones up here they are viscous and do attack!
B.
Loved the walk up here. Wasn't sure how far it would be, but it was definitely worth the hike to get right to the top!
T.
Lovely place, we came here for watching the sunset. The way up was about 20 minutes and quite arduously, bit it's definetly worth it!
J.
Great views, but you have to access through Tirinui Cres, not the way the directions are currently! The path starts at the end of Tirinui Cres.
J.
The view over to Pauanui is worth the short up hill climb
S.
What spectacular views and Tairua was so much more than we expected. Lovely stay and will definitely visit again!
C.
walked up here a few years ago on a small detour , was amazed by the Views from the top , a full 360 of the surrounding area was simply beautiful
a.
Beautiful experience to climb up 163 meters high and get the breathtaking view of Tairua
j.
Great views. The hike up was not that hard, so a great hike.
T.
A pleasant hike quite steep in places with a few rocks to negotiate before the summit
L.
Not too challenging to the summit but what a view to make the climb rewarding
M.
Beaut little walk to some great views 😎
J.
Very well worth a short but very steep climb. Surround views of Pauanui and Tairua rom the top.
T.

M.

J.

(Translated) The trail to the top is a little hard to find, hidden in a residential area. Specifically, go up the wooden steps next to 277 Paku Drive, follow the stone pillars of the Walkway all the way to the top, and climb up for about 10 minutes. The scenery is invincible
Stunning View at the top! Must go~
(Original)
登顶的小径有一点点难找,隐藏在居民区里面。具体在277 Paku Drive旁边的木头台阶上去,一路顺着Walkway的石头柱子上去就能登顶,爬上去10分钟左右。风景无敌好
Stunning View at the top! Must go~

(Translated) A superb viewpoint over the bays of the Coromandel peninsula, fairly easy to access, just sloping for the last tens of meters.
We park the vehicle at the end of Tirinui cres and the path goes straight towards the slopes of Mount Paku reached in just fifteen minutes
From there, a magnificent 300 ° panorama over the port of Tairua, Slipper and Shoe island, the Coromandel coast from north to south
The small orientation table helps to locate the majestic land and sea sites that can be observed.
A very short walk that will blow your mind!

(Translated) The trail is very short and interesting. The way to the top of the mountain is the unicorn rock. After the summit, the scenery is very shocking. It is recommended to sit for a while, look into the distance and think about life. If you have time, remember to watch the sunrise early in the morning, it must be beautiful
