Reviews of Mount Tauhara Car Park
L.
Very easy to find turn onto Mountain road directly off of SH5 and follow it all the way to the end where car park is, 15-20 car spaces. The walk starts off on farm land look for tall posts that have yellow markers until you reach the top of the farm which has an awesome view, then carry on up past the tanks and the bush walk starts from there its a ruggered track and can be narrow and steep in places, once you get to the little stream you are not to far from the summit. Once you get to the summit the views are spectacular also be careful on your way from summit to the rock lookout as track is near cliffs edge in couple places.

Mount Tauhara is a spectacular mountain to climb! A steady and steep incline yet the views of the Sunrise and Lake Taupo is worth the climb!

Reasonable level of fitness required for the climb but well worth the effort. Great views. Hour and a half to the top at a relatively easy pace

Tauhara has become a regular part of my fitness building. It's by no means a manicured track which is something I like. The stream 5 minutes from the top gets a longing glance on the way up and splashed in on the way down. The view from the trig and other lookout points at the top is fantastic! If you're fit and in a hurry you'll do it from the carpark in 40 minutes, I'd imagine an hour would be a nice stroll without a stop.

Nice place to see 360° Lake Taupo view. Great hiking.

Very beautiful views from the top. The path is well formed and steep and can be muddy. All you need is a good pair of shoes and possibly extra layers in case it’s a bit cold at the top. Takes about an hour to get to the top and 45 mins to come back if you jog/power walk. Would definitely recommend!

Fantastic uphill walk. No bathrooms around that I saw so please use restroom before going. I saw way too many wet wipes off in the Bush. If you go super early in the morning or late in the evening the sunrise/set is spectacular.

Start of an amazing hike. Car park is very small, might be difficult to find a parking spot on holidays or weekends. The hike to mount Tauhara is rather tough, not suited for everyone. Most of the trail is basically just an old streambed and can be really narrow and overgrown. It is definitely worth as the top of mount Tauhara has been cleared of trees so one has an amazing view in every direction. On nice days Tongariro is easily visible from up there.

Tricky but fantastic bush walk with a very rewarding view at the summit

The car park itself is but a necessity to get to the summit. You won't get an easy start with some steep bursts up. Fit people will take about 75 minutes to get to the top but the rest of us need about two hours. Start early during a hot day and you'll get the benefit of the forest cover when the sun gets started. Cooling stream on the way up but have something warm, even on a warm day, for the summit which can be strong and cold.
