Reviews of Memorial Park
R.
A wonderful open park with a wonderful view of the water and a cute little water fountain. Has a great playground for kids plenty of space to sit and picnic plus Mr Whippy is there in the weekends!
A.
Such an awesome park, designed for kids of all ages and there's a 18 hole mini golf course too. Oh did I mention ice cream??
n.
Awesome spot for the whanau
If you get sick of the salt water hats arms length away or its not doing it for you then there's heated pools next door (not sure if it costs)
The park is amazing .. something for all ages !! Does lack shade for kids though but hei aha there's plenty tress to post up under (:
Water fountain to chill in aswell ..
Bonus....Mr.whippy is there aswell lol
T.
Massive vert, pretty quiet park to practice on. Had live music as it was public holiday and nice spot for picnic or swim too. The mini in the skatepark though small has a steep gradient.
G.
Stayed in Motorhome for the maximum of 2 nights. So much to do and see at the Park. Loved the 18 hole mini golf course!
I.
Beautiful and relaxful or full on energy blaster. Glorious for a picnic. Nice safe beach so long as you watch your kids around water.
So many family memories to be made here. So much to do or just find your own space to relax and unwind.
The treasured gem of Tauranga.
J.
Great place to walk the dog or let the kids play. Bring your picnic blanket, some food & a few lawn games & make it an enjoyable day out by the water.
We bring our dog here often & he loves the ice cream truck where he sits & enjoys a treat.
A.
I went to memorial park for skateboarding. It's a great place for skateboarding they have a small half pipe in the main skatepark but also a huge professional half pipe next to it it's amazing. And the location near the bay area is perfect.
W.
Excellent park for kids and handicap parking near the pool and carnival. Is limited. Lots of rides and fun happening right now due to summer holidays, massive slide and fast teenage rides. Not for the epilepsy person.
J.
A Park with so much for little kids.
Everytime I've gone there a ice cream van was parked up ready to serve.
There's toilets down the end, a fountain and the water too.
The only problem you will have is keeping up with your young child running all over the place wanting to use everything!
J.
A pleasant park to bring lunch to and enjoy the scenery.
H.
Great place for families. Lots of fun things for them to do together. Taking lunch break and a walk in fresh air is energizing and helps to cope with the rest of the work day. Noticed that dogs are walked to the sea side of the park and it's really interesting watching the varying breeds, how obedient some are off the leash, well groomed, the relationships between dog and owner, some dogs and their funny antics makes for a great day.
C.
Memorial Park has been a favourite of mine for many years. So many locals have grown up with this park being a weekend staple in their lives. Beautiful views, large playgrounds, wide-open fields, there is something for everyone here.
C.
food was really good but had to catch it myself so only 4/5 sadly, beautiful place. luckily I brought spear-length sticks and there was flint readily available.
E.
One of the best parks in Tauranga.. Situated by the beach.. 2 main entrances to this park.. Plenty parking.. Very spacious.. Perfect for all ages, various play areas.. Huge water fountain, BBQ area, public toilets on-site, ride on train.. Great place to take the family.. Lots of seating.. Awesome place to take a walk too..
I.
Something for everyone at Memorial Park. Swim in the sea, the fountain (kids only!), or the public pool. Lots of play opportunities in the many playgrounds or bring your own ball. Ride the little train on Sundays. Take up rowing with the city club. Or take a picnic, chill and watch the birds. Fabulous place.
M.
What an amazing park, for kids of all ages and tastes. There is this tall slider in a rocket form, monkey bars and heaps of other things to play with. For toddlers, there is the small car circuit, where they can drive jeeps, fire trucks and have fun for around 5min. For skate enthusiasts, a giant half pipe and a circuit will make your day. There are bbq places and decent toilets. Also, miniature trains go on certain Sundays. Attached to the park, you can play tennis table and practice futsal or volleyball as well. Forgot to mention the 18 holes mini golf course, worth trying. Looking forward to come back in the summer and enjoy the pools.
B.
Grandchildren enjoy playground, estuary to explore, grassed area can be used for ball games etc. Train rides (Sundays), children car circuit, pay for both.
D.
Great park, plenty of equipment for the kids to play on, heaps of vehicle parking, toilets were functional but you don't wanna spend extended time in them and they are drafty cold.
And in general, every time we've spent the day, the wind gets up late in the day, and the kids turn to icicles.
Ice cream trucks are handy for bribery.
The equipment is well maintained, appears safe and the kids love it.
So it's become a bit of a regular visit.
H.
such a great spot, something for everyone. big trees for shade, pool, mini gold, awesome playgrounds and little Train, lots of grass area. just choice
S.
Nice place to hang out with the family, large playgrounds and fields, barbeque grills open to the public. Also other activities for kids and adults alike, such as miniature train rides, mini golf, skate park etc.
V.
Memorial park, known by all the local Tauranga'ns😁 has so much to offer on days when we need to download the energy bunny's ⚡😂 or Birthday parties🎂 train rides 🚂, swimming 👙🏊♀️a bit of footy🏈 with da boys & gals or even a few selfies📸👩❤️👩 or two😎. Hey, also don't forget the gas BBQ incase the puku starts screamin😂. Honestly said. Life is short. Invest time with them mini me's don't spend time.
Enough said
Cheers

Nice playground area surrounded by green green grass an the view of Tauranga moana harbour just right there at your tip toes.. 😍 beautiful place too have a picnic with the whanau.. 😊😍
B.
Lovely place for morning walk
D.
Waterslide was awesome, kids played in the water fountain ⛲ and used the playground. Great family location. There is a pool there too
C.
Good place to walk the dog and have a picnic.
Playground for the children! A revamped Humpty Dumpty. Massive ground space for all the Whanau!
B.
Awesome place to take the kiddies and the rest of the family. Just be careful in the water as we found a broken bottle neck in the sand where all the kids were running around barefoot. Apart from that it was loads of fun.
N.
Quick stop. Enjoyed a nice stroll with a great view of Tauranga moana. Lovely fountain and playground for the kids. Awesome place to have a picnic. We'll definitely be back 😊
P.

D.
It's a great Park as it caters for everyone, including our 4 legged best friend. Off leash area for 🐕 is along harbour front, which stretches along for km's.. One of the main attractions for renting an apartment opposite for my very elderly best mate. There is a children's play area designated not for dog's which is fair enough as they have plenty of free area to swim and roam. A fountain to play under, laned outdoor swimming enclosure, rowing club, and so much more. But the best of the best is that there are numerous car parks which include maybe 6 or more double disability parks (I will count them next time)when I have wheeled out of mine.
Doggie do bag's to pick up after your pooch. Disappointed thou that no water bowls attached to poles for your best mate to have a drink.😯Seen metal bowls attached under water taps that you can flip over to clean water, so a suggestion for here. There may be a harbour but not everyone wants there mate to drink that water or may not want a "wet dog" (aah come on😕no fun there). For my first 3 weeks in Tauranga, I am impressed. Next report, outdoor pool, from an enquiry told too old to be wheelchair accessible, come on, am I "too old" to still be in a wheelchair....
Congrats Tauranga so far I am pretty impressed and others will be too.
Updated Google Review Of Memorial Park.
Sitting in my car at present, about to get wheelchair out and venture out. I was lucky enough to get a disability car park, rowing club end of park. School holidays and rain stopped, sun shining and lots of families venturing out. Low tide so too far out for "my boy" to swim. Of course if you can walk through the mud to the water you will be fine, but not wheelchair friendly, except for my 6 wheeler all terrain chair, which I can't transfer into on own now, so sadly not used as much as I would like.
Going to post some photos and a video I took yesterday here at the park. They tell there own story.
P.
It's a lovely place to sit and relax let your children 😊 play
D.
Our kids always have a great time here running around, making sure they have at least one go on everything on offer here. The fountain at the edge of the park that kids can paddle in on a hot day is a huge bonus. Our kids loved the ride on cars by the mini golf
D.
On a sunny Sunday, you can ride a mini-train around the tracks for $2 a ride (or $20 for 6 rides). Kids are play at the playground. I am not sure if they allow the kids to swim at the fountain again - but I have seen kids having a good time splashing in it. Food carts would be around if you feel hungry.
L.
On this visit, very disappointed in young locals. Leaving alcohol and other containers lying around carpark. Throwing rubbish out of their cars and kicking it under their cars. Rubbish bins within a few steps. If there are security cameras here, maybe council can fine those culprits whenever this happens, Registrations can hopefully be captured.
A.
I have loved this place ever since a young child, now being almost 23 I love being the kids down to this park its huge and just an overall amazing park for children :)
A.
Went to the Cannibal at the memorial park.
Seems like all the children in Tauranga were present here
We had a lot of fun
J.
Beautiful setting with plenty to do. Take a picnic lunch or fish and chips. Train runs on Sunday. Kids and adults love it.
D.
Great on a sunny, warm day for fun with the family. Good sized playground with lots of options for little kids to bigger ones. Good sized grassy area to run around on and even a large fountain which you can swim in. Swimming pools are nearby and there are barbecue facilities available. Plus, there's usually a coffee car in the parking lot.
J.

A.
A popular family park. Has a lovely fountain that children paddle in. Train rides. Safe and well kept. Up to four running when busy. ( Very popular). Tidal swimming for youngsters. Large slide. Nine hole putting. Great picnic areas.
A.
Memorial park is pretty good and there are usually all sorts of things to do here. There's a Rowing club, half pipe, skate park, swimming pool and a fountain next to the playground at one end while at the other end there's the QE2 centre, Daniels in the park, mini golf and a mini train. So definitely plenty of everything for all ages. Definitely good to go check out on a Sunday. Or any day that's nice out. Even good to just pull up in front of the water and take in the views across the habour.
W.
It's a perfect park to take all ages of children. It has it all! Miniture train rides, several playgrounds, mini golf, mini cars, swimming pools, a water fountain for paddling, a large half pipe for skateboarders, a basic skate park, plenty of grassed areas and bbqs dotted around the park.
J.
Great place to take the kids! Two skateboarder areas, large playground, mini golf, outdoor pool, and a sit on train runs summer weekends and holidays! There's even a bit of a beach and a formal park area plus field where pop up events happen. Plenty of parking at both ends of the park and roadside up on the hill.

Awesome park so much to do. Skate boarding, swimming at outdoor pools (until code brown evacuation) but very nice staff gave us a voucher to go back another day. A.
Water slide there was excellent, good laugh although only 1 slide going, no queues. The park is always awesome, fountain was at full swing, plenty of youngster's in there. Pool was busy too. Lots of shade where you need it. Keep coming back.
B.
An absolutely amazing place, can't wait for the Gypsy fair to come around again. Be good to see more festivals there.

Looking towards Maungatapu from the park during Level 4 lockdown.
Yes, you can go there if you live locally.
I left the house for the first time since L4 and took my bike. Am now feeling the effects. 😎
t.
It was a place of my childhood where I played sports & my Parents & Uncles, Aunties & Cuzies played sports. It is also a wonderful place to bring your family down for picnics, walks, swim at the beach or just watch the kids play at the park so what you come check it out you'll love it.
R.
A lovely beach with plenty of seats to sit on and have a spot of lunch. Toilets close by. Plenty of parking. The play ground is full of some fine things for all ages to play on. They have trains for all ages, and adult too, to ride. Mini golf. Swimmi g pool. A big sports centre to use.

Sunday $2 Miniature train ride, followed by playing on the playground for the kids while adults rested under the trees, then wading in the ocean at the beach was awesome. Will definitely go there again.

Only grumble is the number of visitors parking on the grass despite there being plenty of parking available.
G.
A great place for a picnic lunch or a game of touch rugby or to ride the train or play on the playground! Beautiful scenery to take in.
T.

Great park for the whole family. Good playground areas, a water fountain that the kids love to play in and plenty of grass areas for picnics, birthdays, gatherings etc. And right on the water front! The main attraction for us is the Miniature Trains that run on Sundays from 10am until 3pm and only $2 a ride. The kids absolutely love it! 😁
H.
plez empty ur bins more tables with bbqs dotted everywea thanku
C.
A wonderful park with lots of amenities and open spaces. A real pity that users drop their rubbish, break glass & generally abuse what a facility like this provides for so many. Come on citizens...do the right thing!
T.
Massive Park with ample parking. Good up to date playground and toilets and well maintained throughout
A.
Great free space for families and children!
K.
We went to the mini putt, I loved it (it could have been because I won maybe...), na was the best one I've played, clean and tidy, rang before hand , call answered pretty quickly and my questions answered well.
J.

J.
Nice open areas. Cool little trains which don't cost a lot to ride on
i.
Love going down there looking out to labour has a calming effect
K.
I took my granddaughter to the playground. I remember going there as a child myself. It is at the edge of the harbour with a large fountain the kids can swim in and a wide variety of play things. Take a picnic and sit in the shade. One of the best free things to do. A decent bathroom would give it a 5
J.
Very good day for children could be tidy up abit more
S.
First time going there, what a awesome place big play ground ,pools, trains, skating ring, big rocket slide, mini golf, big skating half pipe, and BBQ .have a great time if you go
v.
It's beautiful Parker everyone and kids can play some games here as well. Toilets and beautiful sea view.
J.
Good flat open area.
An area for field sports, an extensive small kids playground, big slide. Half pipe for skaters and single hoop for b-ballers. A fountain for the small kids (can swim), that lights up at night. Close to the estuary for sea breezes.
The memorial swimming pool is a good pool for lengths or a cool down.
Is mostly for kids, though not a bad dog exercise venue.
Would be nice if there was more adult park activity other than free BBQs.
(Parents like to play! As well as supply the food)
K.
Beautiful park on the waterfront with lots of space and an exciting playground for kids. Shady areas to sit and enjoy, it's close to the CBD as well. There's miniputt, pools and weekend mini train rides which are great fun for the whole family. Always seems to be well enjoyed by all!
H.
Fabulous place for kids and families. So much to do. Waiting for grandson to visit to go there again. I would highly recommend this park, you have pools, sea, trains, okay equipment and a fountain, as well as picnic areas.

D.
How was Memorial Park you asked?? Well, a park is a park is a park!! Green grass, play area for the kids, a lot of shade to get under with all the trees. It's a really large park, with a pool and even a miniature railroad that you can ride on weekends. It's got a fountain which you can splash around in to help cool yourself down, also easy access to the water with steps and sand bottom estuary. Bring the picnic and blanket, watch the kids play and sit under the trees to keep cool!!!
H.
Parking wasn't that plentiful, especially as they are doing works on one side of the park and have cordened off some of the parking. There was a few tables with shade, although there could be a few more. There was lots of playground equipment for the kids which is the main thing. The equipment and grounds in general seem well maintained. The views are great and the kids loved it and didn't want to leave.
w.
If your not from around Tauranga, the kids are bashing your brains against the car door, or you just need to take a break.. Stop! Take a break and stop in at the Memorial Park! Taurangas best park by far. With a range of activities and playgrouds for kids all sizes. Free bbqs, playground, car parks and walking tracks that are well spaced and even wheel chair friendly. A good number of attractions can be found here, from mini putt, swimming activities, outdoor basketball, the light up fountain, monuments, an indoor sports center you can hire equipment and play sports. Big field areas to kick or throw a ball or a frisbee, big enough to have a picnic or partake in your hobbies without much disturbance from others. (Ride on trains on Sunday mornings!) Not to forget mentioning the war memorial for our brave and fearless soldier's and comrades lost in battle. There's to many things to list. Check it out!
A.
We loved the big water slide. Kids loved the different playgrounds and fountain. Trains on sundays are fabulous for young and old alike. Mini golf great for families too.
L.
Great park for children of all ages..with a good playground and separate slides...miniature train 🚆 and lovely big trees and fountain
S.
A real family spot with plenty on offer for adults and kids. Large park area to kick a ball or fly a kite. Miniature train, playground, and toilets. Great place to play, picnic or barbecue, all with a free sea view!
D.
Nice way to unwind in the park to relax
J.
Love the colourful park for children, paddle at the beach. miniature train at weekends.
Swimming pool. Lovely fountain. Have visited this park my whole life! As a child and then with my children, then with my grand children.
t.
Its got everything! Its big, its got bbqs, its got mean as playgrounds, its got a skate park, mini putt, pools, water fountain, beach heaps of grass and shade and a cool as miniature train ride that goes around the park with bridges and tunnels. Its a pretty cool park.
J.
Went to the two day kapahaka event at the QE2 and must say the set up for the event was the best I had seen in the venue, big ups to the Mataatua Kapahaka Committee. The friday secondaries was hugely successful and great to see the Wharekura o Mauao qualify for nats.
My fav though was the whakangahau day of entertainment on the saturday that started with the Nga Pakeke o Tauranga Moana (the oldies) then te Paringa Tai o Matakana with Tutara Kauika our Tauranga teams opening the show with 4 generations of whanau performers entertaing the crowds. This set the tone for the day and was an excellent programme that was open on a koha basis.
Some just gave gold coin but my wife n I emptied our pockets was awesome
Lucky for us there was eftpos at the food stalls lol
J.
Our all time favourite park to go to. Very safe in all aspects. Love taking our grand kids there for a picnic lunch or dinner.
S.
Okd school fun. Big playgrounds. Working mini train s that kids and adults can ride. Lots of green space. Pools open in the summer. These are a great low cost way to spend the day with kids. Dog friendly. Parking can be an issue
S.
Great park for the kids and right by the water front! Has a pool and a massive "free" pool/water fountain that all the kids were swimming in. Skate park and free BBQ area
S.
Has everything. Trains running every Sunday. Sometimes more in the summer and school holidays. Pools open from labour weekend to end April. 2 sizes of playgrounds. Skate ramp, half Court, barbecues, mini putt, 2 x public toilets, 2x fields for activities. Ice cream van usually parked up.
M.
Great for kids of all ages. We have 3 under 4's and they had a fantastic time. Especially running by the fountain
M.
Love going there with my grandchildren, and the miniature train rides on a Sunday add more joy to the park. The rail is so well laid out, it is a credit to the volunteers who run it.
G.
Had our dinner down there the park good & clean BUTtwo picnic tables should be more so families can enjoy a place to take kids for family nite picnic elderly find it hard sitting on grass
R.
Great park with something for everyone. Great in summer as has separate pool facility & water fountain in the park which the kids can splash about in.
P.
Primo picnic spot and when the model trains run its a great spot for big and little kids! Fountains and various playground arenas with mini put 18 hole golf course. Ice cream van at times. Toilets.
A.
Love to place. Various sports facilities and a pool. There's a beach right next =)
Playground is fun! I fall in love with this place at first and still.
Good for people excercise in the morning, good for kids for daytime for fun and activities. Good for couple in the evening with sunset. Best for family on weekends!

L.
Nice spot to meet friends with kids
S.
The staff set up a great play area for a kids birthday, good location, great parking, kids loved it
M.
A family friendly relaxed place to picnic with plenty of shade. The kids love the 'rocket park', it's their favorite in Tauranga!
S.
A great place for you and family. Playground thrills for your kids while you relax and chill.
S.
Nice park with good amenities
S.
It's always a great place, you dont need google to tell you this !
P.s. @Google if I dont rate it, there is probably a reason, I really dont need you to remind every time I log in, thanks. I would add a photo but I'm guessing the finger wont go down so well 🤣🤣🤣 so here's my photo ✌
H.
Great place to meet up with friends
K.
Daughter absolutely loves this park ❤
T.
There is bark all over the grass so leave shoes on at all times. Bring a towel for the kids if they end up swimming in either the fountain or the estuary and on a hot summer's day the metal slide is too hot for bare skin!
M.
This wonderful park on the bay has so much for families to enjoy. There are fountains, a you train ride, lots of grassy lawns and good parking. The park is used for lots of community activities, small fairs, circuses, dawn services, etc.
B.
Great park for lots of running, road biking and mountain biking. There are a lot of trails that are well marked and interesting despite being in the middle of the city. There are a lot of dog walkers, however and many people let their dogs off the leash the day I was there.
S.
Cool fun park for families
S.
Easter Sunday 2021 train ride with grand daughter. Excellent value for money at $2 a ride. Recommend.
R.
Neat park to take the kids to. So much to do. Free and Paid. Safe place to let the kids splash around at the estuary/fountain or you can take them to the pools next door. Also has a little skate area and Mini Putt. Plenty of shade to relax in. Nice family location.
j.
Awesome park, free barbeques, great kids play equipment, boardwalk by the sea with easy access steps, public water fountain (for drinking) public fountain (for paddling). Overall just a great park. Most weekends the miniature railway runs which is fun, similar to the one in Taupo. Also a minigolf on site but that is a separate business with separate charges obviously.
J.
Memorial Park is soo good! Plenty of space for a game of bat down, soccer, touch or rugby or even half court basketball. There's a skate ramp along with a small skate park and even a swimming pool next door. Toilets are near by, the sea is just steps away and the kids can jump on a train that goes around the park (Sundays only I believe)
A.
Great train rides, amazing playground including access to toilets (which are a bit of a walk away). Drinking fountains, often ice cream or coffee trucks parked there. Seating and bbq available. Lovely setting.
t.
Beautiful park, very clean and family friendly. Lots to do and also has a ice cream truck
L.
A great place for families
J.
Ive been going to this park for over the last 30 year's, I took my own children there when they were younger and now I'm so looking forward to taking my grandchildren to this park. It brings back so many wonderful, happy childhood memories.
V.
Nice open spaces to relax on a lovely day
L.
A group of us went with young children between 15 months and 4 years. We all enjoyed the two mornings spent there. The playgrounds offered opportunities for exploration, physical exertion and fun. On Sundays, the train rides provide an enjoyable experience for both adults and children - there are tunnels, level crossings, toots and whistles. Great value for money! The setting by the sea provides a sense of open space and tranquillity and the fountain and the puddles it produced proved an attraction for the toddlers! There is a concrete enclosure for children to ride bikes, scooters and skateboards, and mobile coffee and ice-cream vendors are around for those in need of a pick-me-up!
Z.
Kids love this park, love the train rides most sundays
T.
Memorial Park feels very kiwi to me. There is so much to do here. Bring a picnic. Great playground. Its large and spacious, near the water and near mini golf.
C.
Needs another toilet facility on the train side perhaps. The current 1 is quite a distance for little legs to run to. In comparison to parks found in other cities Memorial Park is lacking greatly.
C.
I went to a Holi Festival there. It was 4xcellent fun. The park itself is swt out well and abuts the harbour. The childrens play areas were well recieved by my grandchildren. Swimming pool, skate park, train rides , sports building mini gulf all well utilised. Loads of families picnicking. Children xould rin around safely.
R.
Tauranga has many parks. But this park is special as the name states. It is really a memorial place. Nice beach walk with small pool for kids to have bath. Variety of play activities for kids. Slides, swings and fun activities. Sunday train special ($2 for ride) is awesome. Huge train track across the park. Ice creams on Sunday is also special. Plenty of parking places. Nice time you will get it for sure.
C.
Very well maintained, safe and clean, and a highlight of Tauranga Central. Very popular for families and lots of room to do your own thing while the kids hit the playground or the fountain. Minigolf course is a great attraction too.

Great for an afternoon walk or to being kids to play for the day. It's fully equipped with a kids playground and toilet facilities. Its got a cute train ride for kids to go on as well as a giant slide. The park also features a skateboard park. You will find many seagulls here during daytime and many pohutukawa trees along the water providing shade during summer with beautifull red flowers during December trough till Feburary.
A.
