Quite a beautiful flat beach with soft golden sand. It has a gorgeous view of Mt Maunganui near (on right), sail boats in the middle, & Port of Tauranga by far on left.

Beautiful setting, laid back atmosphere. Can swim,snooze on beach, fish, take a boat ride,play ball with kids, putt putt golf and other attractions nearby. At weekend,food & craft markets a few minutes walk, accessible public toilets & change facilities.

Great lead in to walk round the mount. Great for young families to take the kids to swim in as it has no surf to speak off. Ready access to downtown the mount which is only a block away. Always a great place to watch the cruise ships and other vessels arriving at the port

This place is awesome for watch the cargo ships come in an out of the port . Great swimming spot . Expect alot of people tho. Parking is also a nightmare.other then those couple points this place is superb

A quiet calm beach to simply relax and take in the scenery under the palms, a walk around the mountain if your feeling fit, and don't forget to finish off the day by by having a real fruit ice cream (with whipped cream, fudge, nuts and sauce 😋) at Copenhagen cones on the corner, yum!

Amazing bay to watch a sunset beautiful water and safe

Lovely venue. Heaps of people on the beach. Piano players as well. Saw the big boat leaving and a wedding on the beach.

Beautiful beach & nice day for watching every1 walking up Mt Maunganui. Definitely a must to go and do. Loved every minute. The only downfall is finding a good carpark so I recommend going quite early if you know its a hot day weatherwise. Great swimming and fun day to spend with whanau. A busy beach but plenty room for all ages

Great atmosphere and lovely walking areas. The one thing against it is that it's often hard to find a car park.

Lovely relaxing outing fir the whole family. We saw two otters swimming around. Lovely experience.

Always something interesting happens with kid's, boats and to top it off there is the beautiful Mauao The Mount 👍

Enjoyed a scenic walk around the mount and had lunch under the shade of a palm tree at Pilot Bay. Lovely way to spend a summer's day. Highly recommend.

Awesome Pretty Beach. Inner harbor Safe swimming. Lots of Tracks and walks. White sand beach. Can rent water sports equipment. Toilets available. Small wharf for fishing. Highly recommended.

One of those places you come back to. Picturesque. Links to walking tracks around or up Mt Maunganui. Can be on the receiving end of high winds depending on wind direction. Or can be sheltered and sunny. Road side parking available but busy, esp in peak times. Lots of Tourist accommodation in this area.

Calm beach inlet. Good for young kids swim, kayaking, chilling on the grass. Not much beach space. If you want that, go over to the main beach (5 min walk). Close to good cafes etc.

Lovely place to relax (with kids) great place to enjoy a swim if you think the ocean is a bit to wild for your taste. The boardwalk is nice to have a stroll on and there are enough trees that create shade n between the sunny benches.

Perfect place to watch the sunset and the boats leaving.

It's very vast and clean. With an mesmerizing view.😍 sit and relax. Sometimes its crowded, specially on weekends. You have barbeque machines. Car parking available, toilets also available.

Peacefully place, you can go with your campervan/motorhome, and stay. There is electricity and bathroom.

From sunrise to Sunset always beautiful and lots of activities in and out the water.

A great place to sit on the grass and watch the boats and ships come and go on Tauranga harbour while having a picnic. Beautiful views of the Mount and Matakana island and a nice safe bay to swim in. Lovely wooden walkway that leads to the mount.

One of the best place to have a afternoon beer.

Lovely relaxed vibe. Great sheltered beach for kids, and for the more adventurous a hike up the Mount (Mauao) or around the base track is only a short walk away. The star really, in our local tourism crown.

Safe, gradually deeper, protected (harbour not open ocean) water. Sandy Beach. 800m or so long grass area with Douglas Firs for shade. Amenities at each end and the middle. Great place to watch the sunset, the cruise ships arriving/leaving, or see the Mount. Nice to walk along the boardwalk which runs the length of Pilot Bay.

A nice beach with a great walkway, lots of lifeguards patrolling in zodiacs and on the beach when we passed by. Several BBQs in the area and plenty of grass to sit on above the sand. Sand was white at one end and a dark coffee colour the other. Lots of water sports equipment for hire, jet skis, Hobie cat etc.

What a great place to sit on the beach and sunbathe,eat fish and chips, swim in calm waters, and watch the world go by.

Nice pier to watch the sunset and cheap fish and chips. Along the walkway there are free BBQ’s. beautiful place to chill if you’re visiting or resident of Mount Maunganui.

Relaxing way to spend a weekend. Easy walk around the Mount.

We stayed at the Capri Apartments On Pilot Bay. And took several afternoon constructional walks along the bay. The Bay has excellent flat wooden board walks (ideal for anyone disabled) that go the lenght of the bay. Many places to sit and watch the tide ebb and flow and boats come and go We observed lots of family picnicers and swimmers. The bay is ideal for younger children to swim as the water is not open ocean (the water was like a mill pond for 2 days during our stay) Parking fills up rather quickly

Really nice place to appreciate the sunset and have a picnic, there are parking spaces around.

Beautiful spot near the mount with some great eatery's and pubs but also some of the most beautiful scenery in the area. Perfect for paddle boarding kite surfing and much more

Nice Bay for: young children to swim and play on the beach, stand up paddle boarding, canoeing, public bbqs available, public toilets available. Great for sun downer drinks and watching departing cruise ships.

Great walks. Boardwalk òn both harbour and surf sides. And a must do walk around the Mount. If you have time also walk to the top of The Mount. Then take time to have great coffee or a huge ice cream. Go do it

Great beach for picnic and swim. Protected from waves so good for younger or not confident swimners. Great views of the port, and close eniugh to the Mount for a walk, or the shops for an ice cream.

Beautiful place to walk, snorkeling, watch cruise ships come in and out, eat fish n chips and watch the sun set, or try stand up paddle boarding. Walk 1 block to be on ocean rolling beach!

Serene and calm western side of the Mount. Beach good for swimming although no surf. Nice for a stroll. Shops and Mount base track within easy walk.

We love the place it really is the essence of Tauranga our city would not be the same without it.we love to part up there watch the shipping go off to all parts of the world. Sometimes we like to walk the Mount track that is always enjoyable and the people we meet are always friendly even the ones from other lands. A takeaway lunch from the Kwangchow that we enjoy in the car tops our morning visit off as we watch the local lasses enjoying the safest beach in the country with their little ones. Need I say more I don't think so it really is a paradise to us who were once Jaffas until we found Tauranga.

Beautiful day. Did a trip on the ferry to Matakana island and inner harbor to container wharf etc. Easy parking, full ride. Nice and safe for swimming.

Such a nice place to be. We climb up the Mount Maunganui which we recommend to do and see the 360° area on the beach, the port and the surrounding islands. Pilot bay has a lot of restaurants as well but few are opened in the evening.

Good place to take the kids for a swim and a free hot pool at the mount end. The council needs to invest in parking as it is very hard to get a car park

It's a very nice place to go kayaking 🛶 or fishing. There is a limited amount of parking and is quite crowded on weekends or public holidays.

Fantastic pot on a lovely day. So much to take in and enjoy. Hot pools, a Mount climb, beautiful beaches, great restaurants. What more to say!

A great and safe swimming beach located on the harbour side of the Mount Maunganui peninsula. It's a family favourite location to sit and watch the cruise ships go out with a fish and chip dinner.

Easy free parking, a good starting place to explore. Several companies provide water activities such as sailing, padle boarding and kayaking

First thing Saturday morning is a little cooler at this time of year so not so many people out walking. Thus morning the tide was in, the sun rising in the east and heavy cloud sitting on the hills to the west. Competing weather patterns seen easily from the top of Mount Maunganui.

A great place to walk, swim and revitalise your energy. Thdtrack around the Mount is easy and we'll formed

Better than the Main beach in my opinion! Plenty of grass and shade to sit in, nice calm water for the children or to sail/kayak etc

Something awesome about the place. I have been going there for over 70 years and never tire of it. A run or walk up or around the Mount is usually part of my visit. Just the best!

Pilot Bay is a secluded and incredibly scenic area of Mount Maunganui with the towering Mauao as a backdrop. Along the beach are Norfolk Pines which are truly impressive, it is very picturesque with plenty of photo opportunities especially when the weather allows.Wandered around here on a recent visit and found it relaxing and a good place to rest and reflect after a busy day.

Beautiful bay..good for families

One of my favourites. Always happenings. On a fine day it's all there for safe family outing. Well catered for with toilets plus kayak and lazer higher.

Great family beach, shallow waters to play with the young ones.weather wasn't great but expected this time of the year.

Beautiful part of Mount...always busy subject to tourists and cruise boats. Hopefully its good for the local community and marine ecosystems etc.

All boaters, Be careful on pilot bay boating ramp, people seem to not understand what is road or footpath. They just walk on the road, in between all booties in or out of ramp.. .

Epic sunsets, cruise ships, sandy shores, and waaaaay quieter than the main beach for a family outing. Loved it.

It's a nice place to swim if you like the ocean but you don't like waves.
