Quite a beautiful flat beach with soft golden sand. It has a gorgeous view of Mt Maunganui near (on right), sail boats in the middle, & Port of Tauranga by far on left.

Beautiful setting, laid back atmosphere. Can swim,snooze on beach, fish, take a boat ride,play ball with kids, putt putt golf and other attractions nearby. At weekend,food & craft markets a few minutes walk, accessible public toilets & change facilities.

Great lead in to walk round the mount. Great for young families to take the kids to swim in as it has no surf to speak off. Ready access to downtown the mount which is only a block away. Always a great place to watch the cruise ships and other vessels arriving at the port

This place is awesome for watch the cargo ships come in an out of the port . Great swimming spot . Expect alot of people tho. Parking is also a nightmare.other then those couple points this place is superb

A quiet calm beach to simply relax and take in the scenery under the palms, a walk around the mountain if your feeling fit, and don't forget to finish off the day by by having a real fruit ice cream (with whipped cream, fudge, nuts and sauce 😋) at Copenhagen cones on the corner, yum!

Beautiful beach & nice day for watching every1 walking up Mt Maunganui. Definitely a must to go and do. Loved every minute. The only downfall is finding a good carpark so I recommend going quite early if you know its a hot day weatherwise. Great swimming and fun day to spend with whanau. A busy beach but plenty room for all ages

One of those places you come back to. Picturesque. Links to walking tracks around or up Mt Maunganui. Can be on the receiving end of high winds depending on wind direction. Or can be sheltered and sunny. Road side parking available but busy, esp in peak times. Lots of Tourist accommodation in this area.

Calm beach inlet. Good for young kids swim, kayaking, chilling on the grass. Not much beach space. If you want that, go over to the main beach (5 min walk). Close to good cafes etc.

Lovely relaxed vibe. Great sheltered beach for kids, and for the more adventurous a hike up the Mount (Mauao) or around the base track is only a short walk away. The star really, in our local tourism crown.

Safe, gradually deeper, protected (harbour not open ocean) water. Sandy Beach. 800m or so long grass area with Douglas Firs for shade. Amenities at each end and the middle. Great place to watch the sunset, the cruise ships arriving/leaving, or see the Mount. Nice to walk along the boardwalk which runs the length of Pilot Bay.

A nice beach with a great walkway, lots of lifeguards patrolling in zodiacs and on the beach when we passed by. Several BBQs in the area and plenty of grass to sit on above the sand. Sand was white at one end and a dark coffee colour the other. Lots of water sports equipment for hire, jet skis, Hobie cat etc.

Relaxing way to spend a weekend. Easy walk around the Mount.

We stayed at the Capri Apartments On Pilot Bay. And took several afternoon constructional walks along the bay. The Bay has excellent flat wooden board walks (ideal for anyone disabled) that go the lenght of the bay. Many places to sit and watch the tide ebb and flow and boats come and go We observed lots of family picnicers and swimmers. The bay is ideal for younger children to swim as the water is not open ocean (the water was like a mill pond for 2 days during our stay) Parking fills up rather quickly

We love the place it really is the essence of Tauranga our city would not be the same without it.we love to part up there watch the shipping go off to all parts of the world. Sometimes we like to walk the Mount track that is always enjoyable and the people we meet are always friendly even the ones from other lands. A takeaway lunch from the Kwangchow that we enjoy in the car tops our morning visit off as we watch the local lasses enjoying the safest beach in the country with their little ones. Need I say more I don't think so it really is a paradise to us who were once Jaffas until we found Tauranga.

Such a nice place to be. We climb up the Mount Maunganui which we recommend to do and see the 360° area on the beach, the port and the surrounding islands. Pilot bay has a lot of restaurants as well but few are opened in the evening.

A great and safe swimming beach located on the harbour side of the Mount Maunganui peninsula. It's a family favourite location to sit and watch the cruise ships go out with a fish and chip dinner.

Pilot Bay is a secluded and incredibly scenic area of Mount Maunganui with the towering Mauao as a backdrop. Along the beach are Norfolk Pines which are truly impressive, it is very picturesque with plenty of photo opportunities especially when the weather allows.Wandered around here on a recent visit and found it relaxing and a good place to rest and reflect after a busy day.

All boaters, Be careful on pilot bay boating ramp, people seem to not understand what is road or footpath. They just walk on the road, in between all booties in or out of ramp.. .
