Reviews of Hauraki Rail Trail
H.
First time to bike the trail and it was a busy holiday weekend. We only did a small part but it was lovely and for these 50+ we look forward to doing it again.

Thames to paeroa leg. Well worth a stop at Convenient Cow Cafe for fantastic ice creams. On the 25/12/2019 I posted 16 photos of the Karangahake gorge leg. Kopu to Pipiroa leg very little shade so on hot days best to go in the morning. On the 15/12/2020 I posted 16 photos of Kopu to Pipiroa leg.Ray's Rest to Kaiaua 16/12/2020 padded bike seat needed, shelly track, very scenic. See photos

What a beautiful, comfortable family ride. The entire track throughout multiple sections has something for everyone. The trail is completely flat and gravel making it a very simple, yet easy ride. Scenery including dense bush, expansive farmland, a large waterfall and coastline view take your breath away throughout the journey. There are many activities, dining and accomodation along the way making it a multi-day experience. Highly recommend to all ages and all abilities. No dogs on the trail, the Karangahake Gorge is the only exception with dogs on leads allowed. The expansion of the trail through to Matamata is very exciting, creating a link between The Coromandel and Hobbiton.

Google map shows the distance from Paeroa to Waihi was just about an hour. However it took us 2 hours to get to our destination. Anyone who is not a cyclist cycling often like me, should mentally prepare for longer journey 😆

Lovely outdoor space with historical views and information

Great path from Waihi to Waikino. Did it with our three kids 4, 6 and 10. Well earned swim and icecream at Waikino.
E.
Interesting but mostly in ruins. Not much to see here but visit the museum further up and enjoy a train ride if that excites you.
