Reviews of Karioitahi Beach
R.
The less popular Auckland west coast beach but definitely as beautiful as the other well-known beaches in the west coast. Toilets are a bit old but still usable and lifeguards are on duty (limited hours). Be careful with the
rip currents as it can be unpredictable at times.

This is basically the same as Bethell’s Beach in the Waitakeres without the long drive, if you live further south in Auckland. You can drive onto the beach itself. Water can be rough as per any west coast beach. Views are beautiful and loads of space for everyone.

Honestly, I am in love with this beach. Only down side is that there's no water fountains etc. But that's easily sorted. Oh, and maybe the toilets could get a revamp 😊

Always love our west coast beaches as you never know how its going to be, today it didn't disappoint stunning blue sky, light wind, warm water. But if going swimming please becareful as very strong rips. Meet a couple of Fishman who had there nets out & caught a good feed of mullet & even offered us some to take home.

Quite hidden beach spacious scenes

I love this place! Such a perfect get away from Auckland. Very little service so it makes you take in the scenery and off your phone and back into nature.
You do have to have a council permit to drive on the beach which is on their website & free of charge.
Beach can get quite busy with vehicles, especially dirt bikes and 4 wheelers. So awesome to see families out there together having a nice day together.
Also a great place for people who want to get married, there is a little place at the top of the hill called castaways.
Great spot for paragliding etc.

Fantastic swimming area like Piha. But still need to swim safely. Loved it. No reception or cell service.

I did photography for an outdoor education class at Kariotahi beach, we went through the lifeguard shack for demonstrations, looking at equipment and vehicles as well as CPR exercises. The beach itself was great, warm sun warm sand, cool water and nice breeze but one thing that I didn't find pleasant were the small blue jelly fish all over the beach. If you stepped on one of these, you would feel a stinging sensation like stepping on a tall lego. Other than that the black sand, mountainous terrain, 4WD, paragliding, surfing activities surrounding the beach were amazing.

Talk about a diamond in the rough.. this place is magic! Assuming you enjoy the non-stop hum or roar of dirt bikes and engines everywhere..
Lifeguards on duty, public toilets, and it's just a huge beach so there's a lot on offer here.. worth the drive from wherever.
