Such a lovely small botique cinema Would of given it 5 stars if wanaka wasn’t so far away from my home, can’t recommend it enough!

What a great Cinema, warm and cosy with three Cinemas. Lovely staff, a great size screen. A huge variety of seats to choose from, including seats inside of cars which really adds to this Cinemas charm. They even have a half time at this Cinema which is amazing as you can order food to be ready then, Mum and I had hot freshly baked cookies that were amazing. They serve the usual Cinema treats like popcorn, lollies and drinks, along with a variety of alcohol, pizza and other things. All in all a great Cinema well worth a visit

I am in love with this cinema experience. The whole experience is great. The sofas and cinema seats just make it comfy as! When you buy your ticket, buy your intermission snacks too. I recommend the cookie, they're warm and incredible! My only suggestion to the owners if to offer a little blanket you can rent? Make it even cosier 😄

Just the best little cinema ever. Best ice cream with tons of flavour choices and oh my gosh the Half time hot cookie!!!!! Worth it every time.

Relaxed theater that has comfy couches within the theater. Love that they give the chance to get a drink or warm cookies at intermission. Note that not all of the theaters have the cool car. Just theater 1.

Vintage decoration and cozy atmosphere!! Love it so much.... Must try their cookies!! Great sofa seat that you will hard to get somewhere else, super comfy and relax.....

Love It! We have been twice as we made the effort to go again on our way through as we loved the experience. Sofas, hot cookies, an interval, home made ice cream, great staff and a chilled experience. What's not to like?! If you are in Wanaka go and experience this cinema, it probably doesn't even matter too much what you see.

Cool theatre. Has this old Morris minor in the theatre which you (or kids) can sit in to watch the movie. They also have intermission half way through the movie so you can have a break or purchase one of their fresh hot cookies. Great experience

I think this is one of my favourite cinemas in the world. Really wholesome - being able to order wine, sit on a couch and have a fresh baked cookie waiting for you at the interval😊all the staff are lovely and it's just a really awesome place. Thank you cinema paradiso!

Wonderfully inviting place to see movies in a somewhat happily quirky way. Ice creams are a must. You can have a proper meal before or after or have a pizza delivered to you at half time. Good parking around the back. Very nice atmosphere.

Amazing cinema. They have a different attitude for playing movies, it's more like at home. There's a tea break in the middle of the movie with freshly baked cookies (need to be ordered in advance). You can take whatever you want to the cinema (of course you should buy it there), so for example beer and even dinner. Seats are very comfortable or you can even sit in the car.

What a marvellous wee cinema everything you need very comfortable seating.

It's nice! Not "best cinema in NZ" nice as I had heard, but just a small town cinema with the twist of some sofas in the cinema rooms, the front part of the old car you usually see in the pictures, and the cabinet food and cookies you can buy for the intermission. Staff was super friendly too! :)

Seating in cozy comfortable couches. First in, best dressed as they say.. Freshly baked cookies at half-time (yes, the movie stops for an intermission). A favorite spot for our stay in Wanaka!

We've been to Cinema Paradiso a few times over the last 10 years and it never disappoints. Every time we come to Wanaka we make a point of stopping in. Saw a movie and had a light dinner tonight. It was as awesome as ever. The service is great and very friendly. The food is quite good for a cinema and it's always nice to have a glass of wine or a beer. The cinema itself is quirky and we love grabbing a couch when we come. I just love the little cars but the couch is always best! The kicker is the intermission and grabbing a cookie and some ice cream for the second half of the movie. Just brilliant!

A little cute cinema with comfy sofas, car sits, and a warm decoration. Never miss their fresh out of oven cookies. The staffs are friendly.

I had a brilliant time here. The staff are friendly and helpful. The sofa's are comfy, hot drinks in a proper mug!!! The cookies are a must to have, we had the ginger and white chocolate, it was delicious. Would definitely recommend a place to go.

I have to admit that I was a bit sceptical of this cinema after all the glowing reviews. Could it really be that good? The answer is a resounding yes. First and foremost the service is excellent. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The actual cinema is just as advertised with comfy couches and seating. Screen is a decent size, with the overall movie watching experience quite fun. The intermission is a fantastic idea, especially with movie runtimes creeping into the 3 hours or more nowadays. Those fresh baked cookies at intermission are delicious. The overall ambience of Cinema Paradiso is spot on and makes for one of the best movie going experiences I have ever had.

This could be the coolest cinema I've ever been to. The staff and the building have a lot of personality which really made the entire visit awesome. Highly recommend seeing something when in Wanaka

Must visit if you are ever in Wanaka. This cinema is a NZ treasure, with the fantastic freshly baked cookies, the friendly staff, the unbelievably comfortable theaters with sofas, cars (!), armchairs, ..

This place has such a unique and original vibe! We went there on a rainy day and were caught by surprise. The movie halls are small and quaint, with comfy couches and cushions and blankets. There’s an intermission when you can get hot cookies! The mini restaurant in the theatre has a great and healthy selection of snacks and appetizers.

Quirky and relaxed with a variety of comfortable seating options including sofas and beanbags. Nice central location. Very friendly reception staff and a wide range of refreshments. Would definitely recommend the homemade ice-cream and cookies! Intermission at halfway point of movie added to the ambiance. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Wanaka.

Loved this theater! Not huge but the screens are very large, with great sound. Good comfortable seating with big sofas up front and beanbags for the kids! Snacks are reasonably priced and you have to try the carrot cake! We were in town for just a few hours and had a nice time seeing a movie here. Two thumbs up! #datenight

What a fantastic cinema with loads of character and extra's. Licensed. Two seater couches. Home made ice cream with a huge range of interesting flavours including Fish & Chip flavour! I chose Conteau/Date. You can order home made cookies for intermission and they get bakedbto order. So unique.

Loved our experience here!! Such a cool cinema with couches, even a vintage car you could sit and watch the movie in! Having an intermission felt strange in a movie but was surprisingly nice, ans we loved their cookies (triple chocolate!!) and ice cream (cinnamon & honey). Would 110% go again!

A lovely man at the front desk charmed us into a cookie at half time and a glass of wine that did not disappoint! The food was divine, topped with a warm fire place at intermission! If the weather is bad on the slopes, stop in for a chocolate chip cookie and a cosy couch!

This is an awesome little theatre. There is an emphasis on good film watching experiences at this place. The seats are comfortable and tiered in a manner that avoids views being blocked by tall large headed people on the seats in front. They have an intermission during the film and have freshly baked cookies ready to sell. There is a bar with a couple of tap beers, drinks can be taken into the theatre. A great place to watch a film for a reasonable price in comfort.

Cinema Paradiso was awesome! A really cool vibe that I've never experienced at another cinema. Would recommend getting comfy on the couches. There are blankets if it's cold. They also have food available at half time intermission, including hot gluten free cookies (if you order before the movie)! The liqueur ice cream is amazing too. Will be returning!!

This cinema is unique in the world, and a must visit when in Wanaka. All the comfort of your own living room with sofas and other quirky seating. The owner has an amazing sense of humour and communicates with the audience like you are his personal house guests. And then there is intermission (you know when this is, cos that's when the screen goes black) when you can buy home made icecream and freshly baked giant cookies. Try it for yourself, you'll love it.

Sofa was very comfortable. We were told there would be fresh cookies at intermission and I bought one but I felt it had only been warmed up because it was very dry and not gooey as if just out of an oven.

This Cinema is amazing. Its exactly how cinemas should be around the world. Its small, independent, run with care and plenty of passion. The seats are so comfortable, we even had bean bags to sit on today which were really comfortable. The service is brilliant, so attentive and they are very welcoming. We came 5 years ago, and finally returned to see of it still had its charm. There have been major changes but it is still as fantastic as it was back then. If you are in wanaka for even just one night, i would highly recommend you enjoy an evening here!

Love love love this place. Such a fun, quirky take on what is normally a commodity of an experience in going to the movies. The small theaters, the fun and comfy staying, the intermission, the warm cookies and homemade ice cream, the friendly staff, the small town feel - it's just all great!

I went to this cinema while on holiday 8 months ago and have yet to find a cinema that compares since! The staff were very friendly, theatre was retro but nice, and they have an intermission where they serve freshly baked cookie. This is a must stop when in Wanaka!

Super cool little movie theater in town with food trucks and other restaurants across the street. It was a nice change of pace while in town. They were in the process of doing some renovations but didn’t get in the way. The inside has a nostalgic feel of the theaters we used to visit in the 80s. Oh, and they do intermissions too! I wish more theaters did that.

Everything a cinema should be. Good size screen, quirky seating, homely feel and movies are always better with beer and a cookie.

My favourite picture theatre in the whole wide world. Feels like you're watching a movie at home and I love the mid movie intermission. Must get that cookie... so good (vegan ginger omg).

Perfect for a date night or going out with friends! The sofas are super comfortable and can fit up to 4 people at a time. We ordered the vegetarian Nachos (really big portion size with lots of dips and toppings!) to share and one of the friendly staff members brought it to us fresh from the kitchen just before the movie started. There is a break in the middle of the movie where you can stock up on snacks and drinks or get fresh cookies that you can order when you buy your tickets (they were really tasty and not too expensive so I‘d definitely give it a try!) Seating is non allocated so if you want to have a good sofa or seat I‘d recommend being there at least 10-15 minutes prior to start!

Great atmosphere. Loved that you could order food and your table would be set ready with food at interval. All seats have an unobstructed view of the screen and there are a variety of seats, armchairs and couches to choose to sit in.

I’d say this is the best cinema I’ve been too! Such a great part of this town. I really enjoy every visit and although I’ve never tried their food it looks great and the smell always makes me hungry. I always try and leave myself some space for the cookies though!

It's a quirky cinema with a wide variety of seats from sofas, plane seats, recliners to dentist chairs. Theatre 1 has the car seats, while Theatre 2 doesn't. Also, it could get a bit warm inside, so dress accordingly. Try reaching early so that you can get in early and choose your seating. Also, place your food order before the movie so that you can get hot meals during the intermission. The famed Cookies are baked fresh and available during Half Time only. Food is just about alright. We had Nachos, Bean Burger, Popcorn and Cookies, all which were just fine. The overall experience was uniquely novel. The tickets and food are quite expensive for the experience, but yes it's worth trying if you have spare time around Wanaka.

This place has a quirky hipster feel to it with comfortable seating and a good range of food options. It is also less expensive than the other cinema in Wanaka. The owner seems like a very friendly chap. The younger lad not so much...appears very sarcastic and made some inappropriate comments when serving. Also, the film started late.

What a great cinema! Covers all the basics well, good video and audio quality, aircon isn't too hot or cold etc, but then adds much more quirkiness. The cinema we were in was furnished with lots of old armchairs and couches with pillows, and a couple of vintage car bodies which you could sit inside to pretend you were at a drive-in - kids loved this! As a bonus the home made ice cream is superb here, and the friendly service just a cherry on top. Note that this cinema inserts a halfway intermission into films - useful if you have kids with small bladders or large stomachs, but may be an annoyance to some others. Will definitely visit again next time we're in Wanaka - awesome!

Really cool cinema love the retro decor and cinema seating. So cosy and relaxing like watching in comfort of your lounge. Only thing was Pinot Noir was not nice bit disappointing when in Wanaka all other Otago options were out of stock?

this place is awesome! coolest cinema I have ever been to! the theater has very comfy couches to sit on and relax, they stop the movie half way through and you can get fresh baked cookies and home made ice cream and whatever else on their awesome menu you want to try. we watched an indy flick and after the movie the writer/director of the movie cane in and let us ask questions and talk story. coolest movie watching experience I have ever experienced!

This is my favourite movies theatre in the world. Quirky and cool decor add to the experience. Legendary cookies and home made icecream complete the experience. Knowledgeable and helpful staff. Loyalty card with free cookies and free film! Gets my top vote every time. Love it!

Perfect little cinema. Where else can you watch a movie, sit on a comfy couch and eat delicious fresh food at the same time? Food can be eaten at a table anytime, or enjoyed during the movie. You can preorder and get it delivered during the intermission. I absolutely loved the fresh cookies just out of the oven (you can even ask for vegan or gluten-free ones). A great variety of drinks (soft, hot, alcohol), lot of snacks and meals, and vegetarian and gluten-free options. Staff was very friendly. As for the movie experience, the screen and sound were great. I have been to a lot of cinemas around the world and this one is without a doubt one of my favourite.

Cinema Paradiso is great. There are 2 theaters, both have comfy seating but the big one has an eclectic selection of couches etc to choose from. Coffee, beer, wine and food is available and they fresh bake cookies for the halftime break!

So much fun! We went on a rainy day in Wanaka and I’m so glad we did. A cinema with so much character, real sofas and an intermission so you don’t need to sit through dying for a pee or dreaming of all the snacks you didn’t get.

The theater is great with it's unique seating (couches, recliners, VW bug). The cookies are excellent! The ice cream was not so great though. If you're trying to choose between a cookie, popcorn, or ice cream, get the cookie for sure! There is intermission to buy snacks half way through the movies.

We stopped in here spontaneously during a rainy day - and they got us in to a sold out show on some last minute no-show tickets. The kitschy seating was awesome and cozy and the cookie intermission halfway through is the best idea.

Excellent night time activity to wind down after a hard day on the slopes. Be sure to try their freshly baked cookies.... divine! I struggled to stay away awake in their super comfy couches... definitely beats gold class cinemas!

The main hall is decorated in a very original fashion, and next to regular cinema seats, there's sofas and even a vintage car to sit on and enjoy the movie. And: There's freshly baked homemade cookies served during the break. Awesome!

A must place to visit in Wanaka. How can you beat wat thing a movie from a comfy sofa and wine and beer if you wish! Good old fashioned interval too! The sound was amazing and the vibrations felt as though they were right underneath the sofa!

This is an iconic venue in Wanaka which is well worth a visit. Cookies in the interval were delicious. Kids and adults had a great time.

A fabulous independent cinema with a great little cafe. The quirky seating in the auditorium made this a memorable visit, watching a great kiwi movie doubly so. Best to phone ahead to reserve you tickets and remember to 'leave space' for the intermission cookies.

Fantastic theater. It is cosy not pricey and the style of each room is greatly added by small cut car. It is the kind of theater you really want to get to to enjoy your movie. Friendly, you can eat and drink and you can order beer if you want to. This is how theatre should be.

Lovely little cinema with two screens, comfy seating and good selection of movies. Great cookies. We ordered food after the movie, a burger and a pizza. Unfortunately the pizza was served with onion despite being ordered without, a real shame. Burger was nice

My wife and I really enjoyed this cinema while staying in Wanaka. We visited it 3 times while there for 2 weeks. The theater is a fun atmosphere with couches and comfy seats. But more importantly, their cafe is great! We both had the lamb burger each time we visited, and it was absolutely amazing! The romesco sauce and the spices in the lamb were delicious, unlike any burger we've ever eaten. We also enjoyed the cookies at intermission. Enjoy it when you go!

A quaint, cosy and quirky cinema with so much to offer! The sofas and cars are as comfy as they are unique and the food is affordable and delicious. The owners make you feel right at home, and the intermission periods are perfect for stocking up on food and going to the toilet without missing any of the film. A must for everyone who visits!

Best cinema ever! Choose to sit in armchairs, sofas or first class aircraft seats and enjoy delicious homemade cookies and locally produced ice creams while watching the latest released movie! if you are rather into salty food, order nachos or pizza and have them delivered at your seat!!

A delightful little place with old style couches and even an odd old car thrown in their theatres. There are 3 screens playing the very best of cinema (mostly English) . ... Garett is the friendly man who serves freshly baked cookies at the interval and asks if everyone is in before he restarts the movie. A delightfully homey affair. The cafe serves some good food and the Hot chocolate with liqueur is a little piece of heaven (I tried mine with Baileys)

Nice cosy place to catch a movie with interesting seating arrangements and decorations. My first to have an half way break/"pause" the movie and everyone can go grab some drinks + foods (pizzas & home made cookies).

Best movie experience I have had in my life! After a rather sad start to my birthday morning as we had to change travel plans due to extreme weather on the west coast, we ended up filling in free time by going to the movies - and it ended up being a highlight of our whole trip! The cinima has such a retro and authentic vibe, with intermission where you can go out and purchase fresh baked cookies (which I would highly recommend you do because they are amazing). The most friednly staff that really added to the atmosphere of the whole place. Would honestly come back to Wanaka just to go back to the movies!

Best cinema ive been to, a very cozy friendly place. Quite small but has nice comfy seats and couches. Theres an intermission where you can get warm cookies and refreshment's. Really a good way to see any movie.

Such a fun experience! Make sure you get there early to get a good couch near the front. This way you will have a good comfy view, and can also be the first in line for cookies at intermission! ( when we were there they ran out!)

Awesome cinema. You can watch the movie on a comfortable couch while eating a freshly baked hot biscuit or order a pizza or some hot drinks. It is worth to go there just for the experience.

A must visit when you’re in Wanaka! I had such a nice time here. The theater is super cozy with sofas and plush chairs, the food is yummy and the cookies are freshly baked. And the staff are awesome!

We came across this cinema by accident. We loved the vibe in the place and had wine and popcorn, scoring the couch at the back (seriously why didn’t the first few people grab the couch??). The room was small, maybe 20 seats all up, and the movie screen and audio was spot on. The best bit was the interval - the movie stopped at the end of a scene and we shot out to the foyer to buy hot homebaked cookies. Only the best damn cookies I’ve ever eaten!! I should drop a star in this rating because you have ruined movie theatres for me! Kidding! This is how movie houses should be run.

The sitting arrangement there is unique, you can sit on sofas, airplane chairs, a folding chair or couches. The price isn't the cheapest, 15$ for each. The cookies in the mid movie pause were good, but didn't live up to their hype.

what you can said about this unique Cinema?? it's like sitting in a home just a bigger home, super comfortable. there is 10 mins " smoke " time for those people who needed to toilet and won't be missing any excited moment for the movie

Great quirky cinema, you get to have a sofa all to yourself. It's a bit random that they stop the film halfway for a break, although good if you want a snack or toilet break. Head over a watch a film on the big screen.

We decided to get out of the rain for a couple of hours and saw this place. Really enjoyed the hot triple chocolate chip cookie and americano at intermission. Wish we had one of these back home.

This was one of the coolest cinemas I have been to. We were in Cinema 1 where the seating is mostly couches, and a VW with raised seating. The movie was about 3 hours long, and they stopped in the middle for intermission break with fresh baked cookies. This place is the best. (Be sure to book ahead of time)

Comfy seats, good quality screen and Audio. Tickets are pricey, but for a small cinema they are reasonable. Only downside I see is the intermission during the screening, takes you away from the movie.

Wife and I were on vacation and friend said this is the best cinema in the world. With those comment we had to check it out. And we were not disappointed as the seat is with and the fresh baked cookie at intermission is one of the best and reminds of the UBC Bluechips cookies. If theatre is this comfortable in Canada I will be in theatres much more often.

Lovely atmosphere and comfy couches in the cinema. They need more couches though! ;) A few of my friends also got turned away from a movie because they said they were fully booked, but the cinema was far from full!

Really cool theatre with big comfy seats. Real hipster vibe. I didn't really like the staff. I found them to be a bit rude and unhelpful with the customers ahead of us and then with me when I was asking questions about the food. Great place and feel, not loving the customer service.

Cool cinema in the actual cinema rooms however the foyer looked a little like a canteen. None the less the staff were amazing and I had a good time... TRY THE COOKIES!

Ahhhh. The movies. Has to be the best way to experience watching a flick. Comfy and homely. Then there's the beer the wine the amazing food, the ice cream the cookies....Going to Paradiso is not just going to watch a movie-it's an event. Love it!

The cosiest place to cuddle up for a movie. Reminds you of the old drive in experiences, and of local cinemas that would ask the audience if everyone's in, before beginning the second half after intermission. Definitely recommended for a one-time experience when in Wanaka!

Great wee cinema. Reminds me of when I was a kid n how the movie is paused while you go get somthing to eat and drink and they play the movie once everyone is back in the cinema. The large fresh baked cookies were yummy to. Highly recommend going here. We will be back.

It’s a nice cinema but the tickets are not numbered thats’why after door opening the people are jumping over the seats to get the best seats. In developed countries this problem could be handled by numbering of the seats.

Get your ticket early! We got there 30 minutes before a show and it had booked out 20 minutes earlier. Place looks great when you get in. As long as you grab them in advance, you’re good.

I never leave reviews anywhere but this completely exceeded my expectations. The service, venue, decor and place overall is my favourite thing i’ve done in the south island overall. The chairs and couches are extremely comfortable and the staff make sure to form a bond with every person who walks through the door. The freshly baked cookies at intermission are a must have! Never been anywhere like this, and our cinemas at home will never compare to this. Thanks so much guys :)
