A.Nice little hiking track to the top of Rocky Mountain that provides stunning views of Lake Wanaka, Glendhu Bay, Hospital Flat, the Matukituki and Motutapu River valleys and the surrounding mountains including Roy's Peak, Treble Cone and Black Peak. Parts of the track can be rather slippery in cold weather with icy patches on frosty mornings and muddy sections after rain.
Well worth the hike for the amazing views.
R.Beautiful track. Very treacherous in the winter after snowfall with most rocks covered in slippery thick ice. Take your time, but would highly recommend for intermediate to advanced hikers depending on the weather.
N.Nice track with nice view/walking time ratio. A mini Roy's Peak for those who don't have time/motivation. Previous comments mention going up from the East track and down through the West. I cannot say that one was easier than the other when I went there in January. I'd say East more exposed, dryer and west more in the forest and more slippery. Anyways it should be fine if you can accept a couple of more difficult sections but overall the tracks are OK.
Also you can stop at one of the viewpoints on the way and decide to come back when you have enough.
C.Great 3 hours hike to the top of Rocky Mountain with 360° views. Quite strenuous so be prepared.
There's a loop at the top, you can follow east or west bound track to get different views. I recommend west track to climb and east to descend. West track is going through a small stream and can get tricky descending.
D.Very nice hike but take the west side to the summit if you are not an experienced hiker. The east side is quite slippery and the path is sometimes not really intact anymore. I would say the east side climb is a T3-T4. If you want to see both sides I'd recommend going up east and going down west.
J.A challenging hike off the beaten trail. We saw about 5 other people the whole time, and if you take the eastern track up and the western track down you get an awesome diversity of views and hiking environments. My girlfriend and I kept up a pretty good clip and we made it to the summit and back in 2 hours. The views from the summit are absolutely spectacular in every direction and the hike is quite challenging on the way up. The trail can get a little sketchy at places so proper hiking footware is a must to do the whole thing. Definitely would recommend.
M.Short hike with beautiful views of Lake Wanaka and surrounding mountains. Took the eastern track, which was steep in places but definitely doable for any fitness level. A must do hike when in Wanaka.
C.We really enjoyed this hike to Rocky Peak Viewpoint. Just make sure to use the Diamond Lake Trailhead as your GPS destination to get to the right car park. When walking up, you'll pass diamond lake first before the path splits between Eastern and Western route further up. We ended up taking the more scenic Eastern route up which offered terrific views over Lake Wanaka. Both routes include some rather steep and slippery sections, especially after some brief rain. Once on top the view are just stunning. Overall it took us 2 hours and 15 minutes round trip.
M.A slightly challenging 90 minute climb to the summit of this 775m peak is richly rewarded with incredible views of Lake Wanaka. Well worth the effort, and nowhere near as busy as the Mount Roy track.
A.Go here! Views are gorgeous on a fine day. The hike is not very demanding/ long but if you also go to the Wanaka viewpoint it is a nice loop for a morning or afternoon. You will need a car to get to the start and just like Roy's peak the carpark can get busy.

A.Great views from the top. Doesn't seem to get much profile on the tourist information but a great place to see Lake Wanaka if you don't want to go with the crowds up Roys Mountain. The path has a couple if steep sections towards the top so use walking shoes or boots.

N.About a 3.5hr trip to the very top and back, and quite a difficult track in some places, especially if you take the western track - expect a lot of steep, rocky parts. But, the breathtaking views from the top are absolutely worth it all, especially on a sunny day. We've done the track twice now, everytime we come into Queenstown. The first time we only went halfway, which was still great, but I would definitely recommend going all the way to the top of you can, won't regret it.
A.Awesome walk with some great views and spots for photos and a picnic. The climb to the top wasn't too difficult and trails are well marked. Recommend taking a light jacket as the wind can make it a bit chilly.

m.Fantastic views of Lake Wanaka and surrounding area. Challenging yet manageable walk to summit. Decent sized parking lot but not massive at base. Preferred East track up and West track down.
J.Gorgeous views across lake Wanaka, up to Trebble Cone ski field and up the Motutapu Valley. Great alternative to Mt Roy if you're tight on time.

L.Worthwhile going here if you're in the area or as an alternative to Roys Peak if you're on a tight timetable. Absolutely gorgeous!
P.Bring a wind jacket. East lath was much easier than the west path. Go up and down the east side for a moderate hike
