Reviews of Wānaka Lakefront
J.
Get an ice cream, sit and watch the ducks, have a paddle in the clear waters of the lake and visit thatWanakaTree. We decided to do a small hike up to the peak of Mount Iron and were rewarded with stunning 360° views of the area and out across Wanaka and the lake. Awesome 👌
J.
Nice and long lakeshore around the Wanaka town, although there may be many tourists around, we still find it peaceful and relaxing here. Nice scenery especially during autumn time. With many parking space, restaurant and public toilet nearby, it is no wonder even the locals love it here.
S.
What is it with road closures, detours and major 'upgrades' here, Queenstown and elsewhere ? Makes navigation a bit hairy but good on them taking this rare, uncluttered opportunity to make improvements with minimal disruption to their regular tourists. The shops lakeside brimming over with artistic talent and originality and nourishment for the soul just to look.
D.
Serene views during spring... love the wanaka lakefront. Went for an evening boat cruise, beautiful sunset behind the snow mountains... would like to go back in summer for a swim in the lake :)
R.
Nice place to sit and chill and gaze at the mountains and lake.
Plenty of seating and parking and there's decent toilets by the boat ramp.
Just across the road are the shops and eating places.
The bakery with the best pies and doughnuts drew me in...
L.
Absolutely gorgeous, worth a visit at any time of the year. The lakefront on the town side has a beautiful new boardwalk where you can see grebe birds and walk along the marina ⛵to beautiful Eely point. 🌲
Or you can walk from the town to the famous Wanaka Tree in about 15 minutes. You're passing lovely trees (stunning especially in autumn), have a sit on a bench or the beach and definitely don't miss a swim here in summer. Very refreshing ☀️ enjoy Wanaka!
S.
We visited Wananka regularly as kids to stay with our grandparents, its so busy now but the views are still spectacular 👌
J.
Stunning. So picturesque. Nice flat walks around the lakefront
L.
Gorgeous, family friendly, cool Dinosaur Playground☆
K.
One of our favorite destinations. Yet still more to see. Such as just the best ice cream shop, and an extensive walk beside the lake toward Frankton Arm.
Unbelievably there was a large brown trout cruising under the wharf by the Earnslaw
R.
Absolutely stunning.
We were out of season so loads of parking, including for our camper, but no over night stopping.
Plenty of places to shop and eat.
PS. Don't miss out on feeding the the ducks and the fish. Food is available from the i-site over the road.
G.
Stunningly beautiful lake surrounded by naturally contoured hills.
M.
Nice place to visit, near Queenstown.

What a lovely spot Wanaka is, beautiful lake with snow capped mountain background. Walking, hiking, biking, sking activities abound!
D.
After a meal at the restaurants, take a stroll along the beautiful lakefront.. The waves and wind is truly therapeutic, and food for the soul. Will love to catch the spectacular sunrises and sunsets the next time I am there.
D.
Great walks around the lake, flat and well maintained
W.
"Wānaka Lakefront" visitors from around the world liked this spot in Wanaka. It seems that the local government chose for cars as attraction in the near future..

g.
Good food, great service even though they we low on staff the night we went. Didn't notice as the food and atmosphere was great. Will be going back
г.
Nice view of the lake. Lots of parking. There were lots of people here when we visited. Toilets are clean. Parking spaces are just at the front of the lake. The lakefront is clean. All you need is your beach towel then enjoy the rest of the day.
C.
Such an amazing place and one of my favourites. 30 degrees or more this day in January which is such a contrast to winter time. Lake temp was supposedly 23 degrees
S.

J.
Great place to entertain kids, Dinosaur playground, fish/eel feeding from the wharf, plenty of places to sit and watch on the lake front, food shops over the road.

Of course. Do not miss that super famous Wanaka Tree
M.
"Amazing", "beautiful", "wonderful" even "mesmerising", don’t know actually how to put words for the places that i visited(summer) in NewZealand and how i felt. Around the Globe, its the only place where i want to spent my holidays without any second thought. Every scenery is breathtaking! One can lay down on lake side grass top and spend the whole day only by enjoying the magnificent view.
R.
One of the most beautiful lakes to visit in NZ. Lake front, Wanaka tree, water sports, biking, walks and much more fund to do. Can easily spend couple of days.visited for few hours definitely coming back.
J.
Out of this world, you have to see it to believe its real...amazing views of the mountains with...eels and fish at your feet. Truly wonderful place.
K.
A fantastic hour or two spent at this spectacular location. Wasn't game to bunny jump myself but great watching others.
C.
A beautiful area to relax enjoy the nature and scenery. Public toilets and lots of trees for shade is really useful. You can swim in the lake - it's very cold but on a nice hot day its worth it.
S.
Went in August, first time visit, Wow! what a place! The beach was shelly not sand so no sand to get into your shoes. Long long walkable beach with changing scenery. Those are not ducks in the water they are the famed Ying Yangs! Air was so crispy n absolutely free of pollution. It doesn't matter if you go in the morning for the sunrise or the late afternoon sunset, I have not seen such vibrant colors anywhere else in the world, must be the clean air. Go visit and see God's painting.
R.
What a peaceful place. Should go at the sunset time. Awesome scenery. Will we very thrilled by watching lots of ducks and fishes in the water. The attractive thing os that the water is totally crystal clear. Beautiful!!!!
R.
The best place to spend the afternoon. Beautiful and very scenic place. Great for a good walk, nice restaurants along the lakefront.

A.
It's a happening place in the evenings. Liked all around the lake, town. Lovely people.
A.
Absolutely stunning views and walks on a day with decent weather. If the weather turns wet and cold, the views of the lake from several nearby restaurants, pubs and cafes are still great.
A.
Unspoiled and beautiful, loved the walking and cycling tracks, had a kayak ride, reasonably priced and a great experience

What an ideal place! Astonishing view, and a great array of bars and restaurants in a quick strolls reach. Bring a picnic and watch the ducks sail by!
B.
Amazing scenery 🤩
Great atmosphere.
Shame some people left their dogs poo all along the waterfront beach 😞💩
R.
Hasn't changed that much in ten years shop's still simular ..however there's a vibe in the air the place is moving the movie theater is a blast .The wind coming across the lake ...a cold blast and the motel price ...well.For other reasons in time to come l feel Wanaka will appeal to the young.
A.
Stunning view. Nice place to have a coffee on cold day.
B.
Quite nice quiet place with plenty of spots under trees for meditation. Some cold draft from the lake.
I.
A beautiful paradise. Shops in the village have high quality merchandise, but were often very expensive.
K.
Stunning. Beautiful spectacular scenery. Lots of shops. Plenty of selection for eating.
M.

M.
This very picturesque and a relaxing place to go.
D.
Beautiful place to enjoy a snack or meal on a sunny day while either getting in the water or watching the water activities. There's always something going on out in the water and with a few large trees, it's also the perfect place to enjoy a book. At night you can chill and watch the sunset while drinking a few dad sodas with friends.
M.
The lake view was awesome. We went twice cos the first time it was pouring, but we got a decent photo the next day. 😊😊😊
B.
Nice Open lake front that has quite a few things to look at. There's a play ground on one end with a dinosaur slide. There is also a wharf near the wooden lodge.

Beautiful lakefront area with nearby parking spaces. Perfect for a stroll or, if none of the restaurants are to your liking, you can grab some fish and chips or other takeaway food from nearby shops and eat it on a picnic bench. Ducks and seagulls may beg you for food but aren't overly aggressive about it.

What a setting! A delight from one end of the Bay to the next. Not over developed at all and very easy long term parking but walking the shore line at dusk is a must.enthralling place. Fo walk up Mt Iron as well. Only 45 minutes up but the views are awesome!
B.
We went wakeboarding in late November a just needed a spring wet suit. All the boards and gear was new. The tow was a brand new Malibu. It threw out a pretty tall wave even with the ballast tanks empty. Micheal was a great captain. I would recommend wakeboarding if you can get some glassy water in Wanaka.
R.
Beautiful views, friendly locals.
Wanaka's Sunday Craft Market small but lovely.
S.
Stunning scenery.on the lake front. We took a stroll and got lots of frresh air.
G.

S.
Super view here! Taking a walk along the lakeside is the best moment ever!

Just breathtaking. Most people go to Queenstown but it is worth coming up to Wanaka as it is only 45 minutes away. It's a smaller town and not as crowded. The Watersports are excellent and the lake not as big as Queenstown.

J.
Naturally beautiful. Can be enjoyed by sitting on the shore, or wining and dining in the numerous venues on offer to suit all budgets,or just good old beer drinking and soaking up the kiwi vibe still in this town 💙
V.
Our bus stopped in Wanaka for just about 10 minutes and I could get the view of this beautiful lake for just a couple of minutes. The place is so serene and makes for a perfect place for a picnic. Make sure you plan to visit Wanaka and stay here a couple of nights. I wish i had planned my stay better to spend time here!

B.
Lovely. Weeds could do with some attention along the front.
Shame about the teenagers making the public toilet area their meeting place. Having to walk around them, and over one of them??
J.
Picturesque lake from all angles. Decent walk around and surrounding stores and restaurants complement the scenery. Locals and tourists have a good vibe, That Wanaka Tree was as beautiful as you've seen in photos. Somehow roadworks and construction make the Lakefront seem like a masterpiece in progress.
O.

The lake front is the highlight of visiting Wanaka. Walk, bike, swim or paddle it's all very good. Parking and toilets and food are available towards to the left when looking out at the lake. We did the stand up paddle boards and kayak rental and this was great. The special tree everyone takes pictures of is ok but I think overrated, still to each their own

No matter what time of the year the lake front walkways can be enjoyed by all ages. It's strange how over the years that the type of buildings and the small industry that pop up as Wanaka changes to suit the type of new visitors.
E.

I loved it. The view, shops, people, and the lakefront, it was beautiful
R.
Nice lake. I was there on a cold foggy day but still enjoyed the view. You will find some cute ducks along the lakefront. Worth a stop if you are from Queenstown to Christchurch. Also Wanaka is a nice town (maybe you can say it is a big town after comparing with others) and people are quite friendly. You can get some food, supply etc here. Enjoy.
R.
Great views in a lake and mountain setting with Wanaka CBD a stones throw away. Perfect for the family to picnic and relax in the sunshine.
k.
Lovely place will visit again.
B.
Beautiful place with a beautiful story.
Like any other touristy place, expect a bit of wait if you want to take a picture with beautiful Wanaka Willow tree.
m.
Another beautiful town in the south island, only heard a lot about this tree in the lake when we got to Wanaka, was pretty cool

Cool wind with sushine make you fresh

Stunning views, even in winter when all the trees are bare. Lake is beautiful and would make for a lovely picnic and photo opportunity spot.

Perfect still sunny autumn day. Lots of benches to sit and gaze at the view, read etc.

Beautiful place, really nice to relax for the day or have a chilled drink in the evening.
N.
The Wanaka lakefront was way undersold to me before I went. I wasn't expecting to enjoy the place much before moving on to Queenstown, but it was truly a beautiful place to stay. Similar in beauty to Queenstown, just much more mellow. Worth a stop for sure.
V.
Lovely unit, great spa, nice restaurant with open fire, shame the weather was foggy
F.
A great place for a swim, lots of kids though. Wanaka is way more relaxed than Queenstown.
P.
Bustling tourist centre with cafes bars and shops overlooking the beautiful Lake Wanaka with its mountain backdrop. In April we found parking to be a bit scarce.
