Reviews of Belmont Regional Park
I.
Easy track to the waterfall, but be prepared to get your feet wet. It’s possible not to, but you will need to hope from stone to stone a lot of times.
M.
What a beautiful place to camp, 8 dollars a night per adult and 4 dollars per child, cash only, fill out the envelope and put monies into the 2 iron maidens provided. has excellent toilet facilities for all abilities. Drinking water tap on site. The walks are stunning, the walk to the waterfall expect wet feet. There are also streams of water where one can cool down in. No rubbish bins on site, please take home
G.
Belmont Regional Park
Another excellent easy walk park in the Hutt Valley Western Hills. Open daily from 5am to 10pm - these hours are in effect from 1 Oct 2020 until late Apr 21.
The breathtaking views and bush-clad valleys of Belmont Regional Park make it a favourite open space for picnics, walking, running, mountain biking and horse riding.
Located in the hill between Porirua and the Hutt Valley, the park features the historic Korokoro Dam, Pareaho Pa, World War II ammunition stores and the original main coach road from Wellington. Climb to the trig, enjoy sweeping views over Porirua Harbour, the Lower Hutt and the remnants of ancient boulder block fields. Highly recommended.
M.
Wonderful walk and Beautiful scenery 🚶♂️ 🚶♀️
K.
A beautiful park with a lot of long trails, mountains, forests, waterfalls etc. Bring enough time and water, you can't buy anything there, I also haven't seen a toilet or something.
I was there when it was very cloudy, so I couldn't take very nice pictures of the landscape. Make sure the weather is good tho.
J.
What a awsome place ...I was just waiting for a Tiger or a Velociraptor or a T-rex to come out of the bush....really made me feel like I was ain a Jarrasic world. Definitely going to do the walk again.
M.
Lots of dead sheep everywhere, government needs to step in and get some native bush in here thanks at least on the Porirua side of the park. But having the hills and space to run in close to home is good.
R.
We had a great walk from the Cornish Street entrance up to the Dam and then did a loop and walked back. The track is well sign posted, easy to manage for young ones with plenty of opportunities to spot birds and eels along the way.
N.
Good place to get away from it all. Hiking and biking opportunities. Close to town and free to use.
M.
Great park with lots of well maintained and quiet lovely trails.
L.
I dont think I can visit this place in one day because the whole regional park situated along the lower hutt to upper hutt high way. Also each part has its own entrance. I highly suggest the map designer could devote more details to this park.
R.
Took 5 hours to finish,
Legs were broken next day
Happiest pain of life
k.
Lots of trails to choice covering all levels of fitness
The korokoro dam walk is a 3km loop through the bush, the dam itself is well worth taking the time to enjoy
K.
What an amazing job they have done on the tracks since the floods. Great access from Cornish Street to the trig
N.
Go here. Moderate hikes. Rolling hills. Super pretty. Even my elder parents hiked well. I even got a quick sketch in.
P.
Nice short walks with bush and waterfalls.
D.
Nice little walk. Wellington wind likes to put it's 10 cents worth in
A.
One of the best hiking trails in Wellington in my mind!
G.
Absolutely stunning views. At the trig you have 360 degree view of the hutt valley and jville/porirua
T.
Great walks. Even on a windy day once in the valley it's calm
C.
Hiked up to Belmont Trig and enjoyed the beautiful views. We kept venturing around, and what I will say is bring some extra water and a flashlight just in case. We lost the path near dark and although we made it down safe, it’s always best to be prepared. Overall gorgeous park. Well worth a visit :)
A.
Awesome park. Challenging hill, wear good shoes and hiking poles if you have them.
J.
Very pretty walking tracks ,!
M.
nice walk up to the trig, mod fitness req, beautiful views
A.
Beautiful bush walk! With Waterfalls, rivers and a breathtaking view of Wellington at the top.
A.
Was very unsure of how to get in and there was a gate closed at the entrance but once I got past that and not knowing where to park, it's a beautiful place to for a quick or long hike. Would be great to have a picnic here and great views of the transmission gully among other things
C.
Awesome location to camp overnight for ferry to picton. Only 25mins drive to ferry terminal. Nice clean toilet and quiet campsite next to stream. Highly recommended!
M.
This park is a must see. It has a number of entrances and tracks so plenty of reasons to visit more than once.
Whether it's climbing to the trig (highest point) or getting amongst the dense forest listening to the stream or seeing the man made dam, I highly recommend a trip or 3.
k.
Great tracks not just your normal mountain bike park also some longer treks rather than short blasting trails. Awesome views from the trig and round knob also some great walking tracks dams old ambition dumps from WW2
H.
Nice place to take a walk.
V.
Great track, have walked this several times, but can get quite gusty in certain parts. Path is gravel so strollers with non inflated tyres will have a bumpy ride, plus 1km in one of the gates appears to be permanently locked (toward the Normandale end) and lifting a stroller through it is not practical or possible depending on the stroller. Great views!
V.
beautiful,i like it,recommended for a walk
N.
Great place to walk your dogs , everyone on the track was super courteous
N.
Beautiful hike up to the Belmont Trig. On our way down, we took the path going to Oakleigh Street. We had to cross the Korokoro stream, and some pathways were not very clear but still manageable :)
M.
Love the park. A real asset to our region. Get in there and see it, Wellingtonians
A.
The tracks could be made more interesting. Little information on routes. Saw many people with unleashed and furious dogs who were also creating a stinky environment.
J.
Enchanting place full of wonder and joy. Tell ya friends and family and get here and enjoy every little moment of this place. Keep up the good work Belmont regional park crew.
P.
A mixture of native bush, stream and farmland with some great views on Wellingtons door step and can be easily accessible using public transport.
My favourite entrance is the Korokoro stream near Petone railway station. The stream entrance provides a fairly flat walk along the stream for about 4km to the two historic dams with steeper side paths leading off the stream, such as the Baked Beans Bend track to Belmont Trig, 450 meter climb, with great views of Wellington harbour.
E.
Starting at the Manor Park entrance and finishing at Cornish Street Petone, the Puke Ariki Traverse is a challenging but very enjoyable day hike. It took me five hours and forty minutes to complete the 23 kilometers but it is best to allow six hours or longer. From the Manor Park Dry Creek gate the path leads up a winding dirt road before becoming a hiking track marked with orange triangles on poles at 100 metre intervals. The hike up to Boulder Hill (elev 442m) gets steep towards the summit but once there the views are astonishing from Cook Strait to Kapiti Island. From there the trail heads south through farmland until you reach the historic WW2 ammunition storage magazines. These are large concrete buildings. From there the trail goes through the Belmont Farm Hub then on to the tricky Dress Circle section.
P.
The views from the trig are 100%. From baked bean bend to the summit is hard going but worth it. If only they could get rid of the possums so the bush could really bounce back. The dam track is also worth it if your after a quite stroll.
S.
Awesome place to stay. Always activities at the park. Great place for families. Clean and tidy facilities.
M.
Amazing park.
In 10 min from wellignton CBD you can join it by car.
You can park very nearly but be careful if your car is low: some speed bump are very high.
For families, hikers or nature lovers.
D.
Its a beautiful place i actually work as a farm hand on the park here lovely views etc better then sitting in a drury old office inside any day

C.
Great walk to a beautiful waterfall.
M.
Superb environment with lots of walking and riding tracks for all skill levels and fitness.
A.
Great reserve park nearby town.
At some places could be no cellphone coverage.
Be aware of Ongaonga plants of walking by the creeks or stream and do not touch it. Else you will have needling and number feeling for few days on the area of your body touched by the plant
K.
Mainly farm track with great views in all directions.
J.
Boys love the bike track!
H.
Amazing trails
O.
Great walk, not too difficult and beautiful view at the top!
Z.
Great hiking trails. The part by the creek stays muddy even a few days after a rain because of all the tree cover. So plan ahead.
Q.
So many different tracks to walk, most with spectacular views. Boulder Hill and old coach road are my favourite so far.
B.
Great time out there, the walks up and around then Belmont trig include some lush ferns along the way and even some rainforest down the creek under Horokiwi.
E.
Beautiful scenery and many nice trails. Lots of mud and clay in spots, just like most of Wellington, and some barren hills from forestry work.
T.
Started at Kaitangata road to reach the summit.
Thoroughly enjoyable but you need average fitness...loads of butterflies. Coppers and Admirals. Large shiny green beetles along the way. Thank goodness for the canopy. Got sunburnt.
The view from Puke Ariki looking over to Mana, Titahi and Pauatahanui was lovely.
A.
Great park with many walks for all ages and levels
J.
I fell down some stairs

D.
The map and the paths don't match.

G.
Was raining an in a big truck . Road needs maintenance an widening. Trees pruned an fences fixed near roads ..not suitable for 15 metre trucks 🤔😐🙄
p.
Been going there from a young age I love it
P.
Clematis is widespread this year and all the tracks are in good condition. Great views all round from the open tops.
