It was cozy and they had a special screening during that time. Some of the people sitting around us assisted on the movie creation. We also got to see some of the items used on the movie..we did not expect that at all. Amazing surprise

Did my 6 year’s old birthday party here, the staff was amazing! Not to mention after the movie everything was set up for the food, which was also grand! I would totally recommend checking them out! So easy to talk with and organise. The staff helped us with the gifts and doggie bags for all the extra food! Great coffee too! It felt like we were all at home. We will definitely be back for more!

Roxy cinema's a very cool place to visit 🌻💚❤️ Look closely and you'll notice the carefully selected furnishings, objects & memorabilia. Just love the tease intro to the movie too "those are real Italian leather you know" yep I dislike feet on the back of my seat too! Lol Nice selection of cabinet food, along with fine dining. Lovely choc top ice creams, coffee, Prosecco - mmm, jaffas, & gluten free options! Other cabinet treats are yum & it really has brightened up Miramar. Their Gatsby themed event a few years back was fabulous! 😍 I even had a hot & sozzled LOTR star approach me when I collected my friend 😂 I've heard all their events are pretty neat 🎉🎊💃🕺 Thankyou to the clever minds & open wallets that help make the Eastern suburbs a magical place 😍🤗

Absolutely eclectic epic wonderful place that I've ever seen in my entire life. I went here on a tour with Mike the guide as our first stop before we went to the wedding Workshop on the Lord of the Rings tour. The cinema was absolutely chock-full of beautiful artwork and memorabilia from Lord of the Rings and the fifties and forties film industry. It is an absolute must for anyone visiting Wellington. I felt absolutely honour and honoured and privileged to me Jamie Selkirk who owns The Establishment and has done beautiful work for one of my favourite films the Lord of the Rings it was an absolute treat in a highlight of our adventure in New Zealand in 2016.

Love the old school feel and effort that they put in for a feature movie

Gorgeous building, super comfy&spacious seating, really great details in the decor inside. Family of 4 for just under $40, they also do cheaper tickets on a Tuesday and have a film club too. Fair bit of parking very close by. There's numerous options for food, some vegetarian and gluten free though didn't spot any vegan. Seems to get fairly busy so maybe book online in advance for a new release

Gorgeous little cinema, restored wonderfully back to it's Art Deco roots. You arrive into the front to find not a stuffy historical accurate cinema, but one that has modern appeal with bustling cafe / bar, big airy spaces, but with excellent nods to the Art Deco history of the cinema. The food and the coffee in the cafe / bar is excellent and is well worth enjoying with friends while you wait for the film to start. Can bring most items into the theatre itself if you need to. There is an extensive range of local craft beers and wines. The theatre itself is wonderfully restored with original fittings and velvet curtain for the screen. There are modern leather seats and of course the sound and picture is to modern standards. Overall a very enjoyable experience.

Been there many times and i just love the ambience of the place, it feels like cinemas of decades ago but with much more seating space and comfort. Also has great food if you want to make a night of it.

Came to the Roxy for a quiz night, we entered a team so had a table set aside for us with popcorn and water. The queue to order drinks was long when we arrived but help soon turned up and we were able to order. The food was superb and the quiz was lots of fun. We will be back for the next quiz.

I went for the Eat The Film screening of Alien, being a massive fan of the series, and was a bit hesistant when I saw the price, $75, but this was because Eat The Film are special screenings where you get a dinner and cocktails, which are designed to match scenes in the film. I was amazed. The food was so fancy and gourmet, exactly the sort of thing to expect at the price it was, so I was not disappointed by any stretch. One of the cocktails had dry ice in it, bubbling away and really adding to the Sci-Fi theme. It was an amazing experience which I you HAVE to go to before you die, it was a truly awesome night.

Enjoyed my first movie at Roxy and loved the first experience. The person who served me at the counter was really friendly and provided good quality service. I deducted one start only for one reason that the popcorn isn’t warm :( and they don’t play Bollywood movies :( hopefully they will bring the hot popcorns and Bollywood movies soon! Otherwise I love it.

The food is good. It is also a cinema, if you want to see Golum's statue, its right on the 2nd floor. Food presentation is very good, cozy place and friendly staff.

Cafe excellent value (recommended the green lentil salad). Coffee good and hot. Lovely atmosphere, good friendly staff.

Well if you wanna relive 80's in the 2020's, i do recommend Roxy for its interior designs and decor. Absolutely the best time machine ever.

Wonderful stylish venue, café and cinema theatres. Good attention to current Covid19 seating and spacing restrictions. Sunday the usual staff weren't there, warm coffee, slow meal then asked to pay again at table, I'd paid already at counter. A notch below usual excellent service standards, but remains a favourite place in Miramar.

Lovely restored cinema, with 2 screens, cafe and restaurant. Don't have to be going to cinema to use either. Worth a visit to see the art decor.

I love this place. So gorgeous inside! There's an amazing sci-fi mural on the second floor ceiling. Friendly staff. Lots of snack options, including alcohol! Roomy and comfy cinema seating and great sound!

This is my favourite cinema in Wellington! The seats are comfy and the screens aren't too large. They have the best events and special screenings! Also love the architecture as well always find reasons to go!

I love The Roxy. One of the best 5 stars Cinema in Wellington. Lovely crew, amazing food, drinks and restaurant. Always with some new display. The events are amazing, especially when we have movies from 80's 90's (1975 Jaws) or new as Harry Potter or Lord of the rings.

Entertainment hub of the Miramar Peninsula. Elegant comfortable environment. Cafe with cabinet treats and dining menu for something extra. Live bands, special showings and world class cinemas. Like all great opportunities - once there, one questions why not more often.

Popcorn bucket title should change to popcorn cup. However everything else was fantastic hence the 4/5

Visited the café with a group interested in regular visits (a tough crowd). Ambience great, service good, not too busy, selection reasonable, prices average-high for the area and clearly marked. Chicken pie lovely, coffee good, but scones stodgy. We're still looking.

Beautiful Art Deco interior, comfortable couches and friendly staff. They are doing a great job at making everyone comfortable during the pandemic restrictions.

The ambience in Roxy is really great, the prices are all reasonable and the seating is fairly spacious and comfortable. My issue with cinema one in particular is that if there is a movie in cinema two with loud bass you can feel it from cinema one which can be quite disruptive.

Best cinema in Wellington by far! Art deco architecture with movie memorabilia and an excellent restaurant. Great for a visit even if you don't come to see a movie. Both theatres have very comfy seats and excellent sound systems.

Went for special Mother's Day high tea and screening of the fabulous James and Isey. Excellent service, very interesting high tea menu (creative) and we adored the movie. Great value and I was surprised the event exceeded my expectations

Always love going to this cinema. Gorgeously decorated with a good selection of food and drink. Might not be the biggest screen, but with comfortable seating and lush surroundings - it's my preferred venue for film. They have a film club reward system which is good too!

So great to be able to go to the movies again. Shorts before movie were pretty awful & really loud though. The Peanut Butter Falcon was an enjoyable movie. Had some yummy meal there afterwards. Service with a smile too.

Called into the bathroom facilities, they were done. Bought a nice hot Choc done. Very able to give you a great drink an a movie.

Went to a pre-screening of La La Land. It was a deliciously decadent affair with bubbles and canapes. Perfect setting for such an event in this romantic old theatre.

The Roxy is fabulous! As you will appreciate they are stuck for new movies but are re-running some old and not so old classics and favs. They also have a great Café, just had an excellent coffee there. So take a short drive or bus out of the CBD and support them. ❤

Love doing dinner and a movie here. The atmosphere of this place reminds me of the olden days of going to the cinema. The food is quirky but I really enjoyed it. The cinemas are smaller but I quite like that, it makes you feel valued. I really enjoy going here and would highly recommend to others. 😊

Great Cinema! Beautiful interior design, makes it look fresh out of the 1900s! Theatre size is good for a cinema like this. Certainly enjoyable every time I go. I highly recommend going!

Beautiful theatre. A must-see for any visitor to Welly. Audio and film quality were great and the seating is comfortable. They do NOT have cup holders. You are expected to keep your drink safe on a smooth wooden block instead... Oh and uh, before the movie plays you experience the Ewok scene from Star Wars, which turns out to be a promo for the theatre itself. Freaking random. No popcorn 😂 I kinda respect that.

A great theatre complex, thoroughly enjoyed watching Cool Runnings there on the weekend just gone. Got to support these places or we lose them forever.

A great atmosphere with plastic containers of sweets so no rustling of bags, large seats are comfortable with generous leg room. The sound is fantastic quality and you can buy a drink for about $4 up and choc dip ice cream!. Best thing is before 6 we were able to buy a family pass for 3 when everywhere else you can only buy a family pass for four or more!

Haleigh and Suzie hosted us the most amazing wedding in May! Everything from the 2 week planning notice (sorry it was rushed!) to the big day, nothing was a problem at all! They were great at remembering the little things that made the day perfect, the menus with our names on top were so touching :) The food was delicious, many many compliments from my family afterwards. Highly recommended, thank you for making our day so memorable and special!

I went here for the first time last month and I was so impressed by how lovely everything was. I loved the historic feeling of the cinema. We were in the largest theatre, and the chairs were comfy, and you get a place to set your drink that you can order beforehand at the bar. I would recommend this over any chain cinema brand any day.

The atmosphere of this cinema is wonderful! The smell of fresh coffee as you enter the door and the furnishings and decorations are beautiful. I really love all the art throughout the cinema too! Very well priced as well.

Fantastic staff and frequent showings of cult classics are some of the things that make The Roxy one of the most iconic movie theaters in New Zealand. While it is a little more pricey than other grand movie theaters such as the embassy, The Roxy makes up for in in style, comfort and service. There on-site restaurant offers fantastic dinning options and there bar is well stocked, if your not feeling like a full meal, there café offers classic Wellington quality coffee and a few smaller food options. Overall the Roxy is a fantastic venue for a night out at the movies or even just a coffee at lunch. Whatever your reason is for going, your sure to have a great experience.

It's a fairly small cinema but it is really nice. The entire back row are mini couches so they're basically 2 seaters, so if you're on a date you can lean on each other without a seat arm in the middle. There is also a cafe and eatery and bar inside so you can go earlier and get something substantial to eat or drink before watching the movie. It is a nice cinema but not necessarily worth travelling far for.

Is a strong field but I think this is my favourite indie cinema in Wellington. Good seats and screens. Beautifully decorated with some cool LOTR stuff. Beer and coffee for the win. Classic screenings here are brilliant. Never visited the restaurant but the menu look good. It's on the last.

Really nice cinema, I just wish they had more evening showings during the week. The theater manager really seems to enjoy his job and giving folks an experience to remember. We really enjoyed the Harry Potter themed event for Fantastic Beasts.

Amazing location, I came here for multiple screenings as part of the Documentary Edge Film Festival. Beautiful cinema, with a very nice lobby, which serves a nice assortment of snacks and refreshments. The seats are very nice, I especially liked the 'love-seats' they had in the back.

The most iconic cinema I've ever come across - is still my favourite place to go see movies on the big screen. The restaurant is great too! Many Peter Jackson and Weta Workshop sponsored art works, statues and model displays in a tastefully art deco era restored cinema building and interior.

We love going to the Roxy, even though we haven't sampled the full delights of coco yet. It makes going to the cinema a special occassion and not some corporate box with a screen in. It's a great place, thoroughly recommend it.

The Roxy is undoubtedly my favourite cinema in Wellington and the perfect place for all cinefiles. The Art Deco style and amazing pieces provided by Peter Jackson and Weta add a specialness to the movie-going experience that is becoming a rarity. The cinemas themselves may be small compared to other theatre chains but I much prefer the intimate surrounds, comfortable seats and top notch picture and sound.

Hands down one of the best cinemas around. Great, vibrant, and happy staff all year round, and at all times of the day. With some of the nicest cinema screens in Wellington, it's always a great idea to see the latest blockbusters here! Accompanying the brilliant cinema is an excellent bar, boasting a multi award winning cocktail legend, Ray Letoa, be sure to grab a drink before your film! Or if you're more inclined to a coffee, be sure to order a brilliant flat white from the excellent cafe! After all that, if you're still wanting more, maybe something to eat, be sure to visit Coco at the Roxy, an award winning restaurant with exceptional seasonal menus!

Great atmosphere, enjoyed the movie, comfortable seats. Disappointed they think they are too good for popcorn though And want happened to the roasted nuts? A lot of sweet treats on offer but not much savory.

My favourite cafe in Wellington. Great coffee and cabinet food, comfortable seating and a relaxed atmosphere. Staff are always friendly, fast and attentive. Chef Nick runs a great restaurant and Ray is an award winning cocktail magician. Located in the centre of Hobbit land (close to the studio and Weta cave), make sure to visit the Roxy when you're in town.

The restaurant has a nice range of interesting and reasonably priced food. The decor is fantastic; very nice restoration of 1930's cinema. Well worth a stop for a meal regardless of whether you are staying for a movie or not.

Went to Choose Love here. Great setting, food and drink. Comfy chairs, soundtrack was a bit loud, but we were in the 2nd row. Definitely go back again.👍🙂

Awesome cinemas - beautifully restored, love the cafe drink and food options to be able to take in. Have always had great service here also. Not the cheapest movie theatre around but it is a great experience (provided you pick a good film!).

Never disappoints. Friendly staff. Like the reminders to switch off mobile devices - may need to expand list to switching off smart watches as well!!! Not too many of them on this visit, but they're getting more popular.

It's always a wonderful experience at the Roxy - I have been to many theatres around the world and the Roxy remains one of my all-time favourites - from the atmosphere when you walk in, the friendly and efficient staff, the wonderful restaurant for a quick pre-movie meal or liesurely dining experience after (pork belly roast one of my favourites), the decor throughout especially on Level 1, the comfortable theatre seats and great sound system and screen sizes, it would be hard to be anything but enthralled from a visit. Nice home to film festival movies which a number of the mainstream blockbuster theatres just don't show. Online bookings OK but sometimes the General Admission seating means first in best dressed.

Wow what a fantastic venue! Went to a birthday party there and had an amazing time. Awesome company, great movie and fantastic food. If you want an awesome night out try it. Service was excellent too.

I want to love this cinema because of what it is but it unfortunately fell short. I was so excited but there was just no love in it. Even the memorabilia was hidden in the corner. Would not recommend this to the exploring tourist. The cafe had good food though.

When ever we visit we grab a coffee and a few desserts here. It's a cosy and relaxing place to enjoy a coffee. Haven't had the time to watch a movie here since we're usually travelling through and from Auckland on an exhibition trip to Welly.

Very nice cinema, arguably the best in Wellington, with an art deco theme, two auditoriums with good sound and comfortable seats, a cafe and bar. The range of movies tends to be more upmarket than say the Reading in the city but not as big as the Penthouse in Brooklyn.

The Roxy is worth a visit based purely on the decor of the grand hall on the first floor. It's owned by Weta Workshop (I believe) and they've put a lot of effort into making the place unique and beautiful in an art Deco style. Service is good, theatres are cosy, candy is overpriced .. it's a cinema after all

Great little theater, 2 screens and a restaurant. They really need to be open later however - their latest movie is usually 8pm. I would think there is an opportunity with the large movie crowd in the area to have screenings as late as 9:30.

The theatre has a unique design, also the grand lobby has a great paint on it. Good food and coffees. Bar and restaurant with a variety of options. Good service.

One of the best places to watch a film in Wellington. Ample parking and comfy seating (highly suggest trying one of the couches in the rear row of Cinema One). Plus, one can order a nice glass of wine or yummy coffee to enjoy during the show.

Great Art Deco cinema and a delight to watch a movie in. It's a real shame New Zealand has lost so many of its quaint cinemas which have been replaced by the multiplex. The Roxy is a fine example of the movies the way they used to be, with a modern touch of course but even the modern seating has a vintage feel. If your going to pop in to the Weta Cave make this a stop along the way.

The Roxy Cinema is an excellent place for watching a movie with its unique theming making it stand out from other cinemas. If, however, you aren't already in the Miramar area it is quite far out of town but it very much has an experience all of its own and i would highly recommend it.

Wellingtons best cinema. A movie theatre designed by filmmakers and run by people with a true passion for film, this amazing restored building is a true film lovers paradise, with Art Deco fixtures and amazing artwork, and constant exhibitions from Weta studios up the road.

My friend thought he would be funny and take me to see Cats: the movie. The only redeeming quality was that it was showing at the Roxy, which is a delightful and classy little cinema with great staff. Would go again, just not to see Cats.

The cinema is good to go to large seats like gold class elsewhere. Food and drink can be bought inside from the bar. The resturant has a very limited menu now much smaller and not alot of variety of choice anymore.

Very I impressive retro style glamorous cinema / bar / restaurant. Friendly staff. Fabulous movie-geek paraphernalia, such as Jamie Selkirks gold Oscar on display in a glass case ! Recommended

A wonderful cinema that has a great line up of films, really interesting special events, good food, coffee and snacks. Fabulous atmosphere and beautiful WETA created decor. Lucky to have it as my local.

Refurbished with help from whats his face, you know, the guy that directed Lord of the rings. Yeah him. It's nice. Even if you don't like movies, go grab a coffee. And a cake. Everyone loves cake. Except diabetics

Quaint and quirky, revamped, art deco cinema with comfortable, sofa seating, good acoustics and screens. Not short of colourful character. If you're booking tickets in person you won't be allowed to view the Gatekeeper's PC screen but only the options she chooses to show you on her analogue, cardboard cards (in UPSIDE DOWN manner)! So if you wish to view the FULL seating plan (or prefer the online interface experience that you're probably used to by now) and have more control over your choices, then book ONLINE. That way you can avoid being thrust back into the booking Ice Age! The usher on the other hand is sweet as. The cafe downstairs does a bristling trade so go early if you intend to eat there before the movie starts. Food is rather pricey but there is not much around on Sundays so it's a captive market. Ice creams are also available in addition to the usual cafe fare. Roxy is different from other Wn cinemas in that full meals are available from their diner. Miramar is blessed to have RC (with Weta Cave close by) otherwise it's a long trek to the closest one in the city. Benefits include NZIFF screenings during the IFF season. If you're going by bus from the city, take the #2 / 30 to Miramar from Courtenay Place, get off at the stop in front of the Salvation Army building, then turn left towards the blue, art deco building (if you're in unfamiliar territory). Be sure to get off at THIS stop because the next one is a long way off.

A local cinema with lots of atmosphere, great food, and great screening rooms. The staff is always fantastic and the special screenings are always great fun.

Always torn on this a must see for out of towners, and a great picture palace. But just missing that little something to make it a truly great cinema, all the ingredients are there. Not sure what it is but it's still a great theatre. Highly recommend.

Service and food was a bit hit and miss, no one came to our table to ask if we wanted more coffees or drinks, and the food was only ok, except for a very yummy orange and almond cake.

If you want a bit of class with the next film you intend to see, go to the Roxy. Its retro aesthetic, great food and all round quality service. Creates a great experience! 4/5

Love the care that's been taken in the restoration of this beautiful building. Classy cinema with a fabulous restaurant. If you haven't been you really should.

Be sure to show up to your movie early to enjoy the great food and cocktails. The theatres are small but have the most spacious and comfortable seats in town.

Cute old school cinema, the staff is very nice and they organise some special classics screening (last one was the Big Lebowski) really cool!

Great cinema in a nice suburb

The Roxy Cinema is the best place in Wellington. The atmosphere makes the whole movie going experience special. Not to mention the wonderful CoCo restaurant to have a meal before the show.

Great seats, picture and sound and price was reasonable. Will definetly be back.

Movie prices are great, especially the family tickets. Nice selection of food, ice creams and of course sweets. Comfortable seating in the movie theatre.

I saw a screening of Labyrinth here a couple of years ago - a wonderful experience. Staff are passionate about film and really cool. A wonderful screening and brilliant Art Deco cinema.

This is a great little theatre worth a lot of old charm. They have large comfy seats and the theatres are small for your comfort

A time travelling experience with heaps of character. Tickets are more experience but you are paying for the atmosphere as kuch as anything else. Would go again, more than one cinema to explore.

Charismatic atmosphere. Order a meal or your usual movie snacks and/or a drink then kick back with a movie on cosy comfy chairs, or just grab a table and catchup with friends.

Nice theater, like returning to Miramar and the Roxy every so often. Watching the stunningly restored 'Himmel über Berlin' made the occasion even more enjoyable.

Great screen and sound! No popcorn, overpriced chippies, too small coke that tasted like nothing I'd ever swallow.

This is what all cinemas should be like. Not a cramped multiplex in a shopping centre but a movie theatre with a restaurant, cafe, bar, cosy leather seats, plenty of room in a beautifully renovated building full of art and movie memorabilia. Look out for events and special themed screenings!

This place is great sound and picture is top quality, the front seats are not to close to the screen, very warm and inviting cinema that must be visited even if not watching a film.

Superb art deco cinema with beautiful Weta crafted artwork and paintings. Has a decent cafe, and a cool selection of Lord of the Rings statues inside and out.

Gorgeous interior and screen. Bar and cafe downstairs is great. Overall a top class cinema experience. 🙂

Brilliant theatre to watch movies at, have a lovely meal or coffee and nibbles. Beautifully done, inside and out and local area is trendy and fun.

Easily the best cinema in New Zealand, the staff are lovely and the interior is so cool! If I lived any closer I'd easily go there every week.

A beautifully restored cinema in Miramar (Wellywood) Wellington. Walking through this building is like a walk back in time to when going to the cinema was still classy. I could imagine myself sitting there watching a black and white film as if it was still the 40's. Richard Taylor of the WETA Group has done a wonderful job of restoring it back to the 1920's era. A touch of history and class among the world of modernization and the ever constantly moving forward and onwards.

A wonderful occasion 21st for Kawa Kawa Fox-Reo. A lovely venue and a very delicious meal. I loved the old footage of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers classic.

This place was amazing the Art Deco building is fantastic also Coco restaurant is here so you can eat before or after the flim this place is own and was refurbished by Sir Peter Jackson also don't forget take a look upstairs

Amazing place the mural upstairs is....out of this world...worth just going in for the food alone, let alone seeing a movie. Check out the art deco bathrooms whilst there

Cosy nooks in which to read alone and sip on a coffee or meet up with a friend. The savoury gluten free muffin was worth a return visit.

It was quiet although a few people around and enjoyed a long chat over a nice coffee with old and good friends which was great

Full of art deco nostalgia and beauty, the Roxy is a great place to see old classics, New Zealand film and of course the lastest releases.

Soft sofas, good experience. Way better than just going to the movies down the road.

Great cinema, nice atmosphere and nice bar, would definitely recommend it for a night out with some drinks and a movie. No vegan food options which is a shame.

Nothing better than a Whisky Galore tasting at the Roxy. Where else do you get a whisky with your movie. Then post movie live band, drinks, food, dancing. Awesome.

Went on a mum date to angry birds 2 and loved the cinema. Fantastic decor, great facilities and amazing hot chocolate!

They have great salads on offer. The soba noodle salad is delish. Great with hot fries or a sausage roll.

The movie theatre had heaps of leg room the staff were awesome and a great variety of food chocolates and my favorite chocolate dip ice cream I enjoyed my very first visit and definitely return in the future karawe
