Reviews of Wellington International Airport
E.
Wellington is my home airport.
Located short drive/ bus to the city, Wellington is reasonably connected. However traffic to the airport can be a nightmare due to roads in greater Wellington region. I advise that you allow extra time for travel to or from your destination.
Airport facilities are great, but definitely not in international standard. But then again other than regular traffic from Australia, Wellington don't see many international arrivals also.
Very clean and tidy. Super friendly service and you will find what you need.
There are also a few attractions in the airport which will keep your kids and some adults entertained 😁.
Flying in and out of the airport is also mesmerising. Beautiful views and stunning scenery.
An easy 5 star!
J.
Was instructed to remove an item from my checked bag. Little upset because I've carried my gear all over the world with no trouble. But in the effort of safety and security I was happy to comply. The Air NZ check in manager was able to help me check my carry-on on bag with absolutely zero extra time but he made it happen. This fella needs a raise.
S.
Design and interior 8/10
Utility and amenities 6/10
Acess to shops 8/10
Toilets 5/10
Love the space and interior. It's well lit and has a lot of places to eat, slightly less than Auckland Airport, but more than Christchurch airport.
The reason for me giving the overall 3 star review is because I give a lot of weightage to toilet conditions and utility. The toilets were evenly spaced throughout the airport, not hard to find-sign were put up. Well lit inside and space is alright.
The toilet seats 3/10. Toilet paper 0/10. 1 ply, and SUPER HARSH! For an international airport like this one, being the capital of the country-Wellington, they could have invested slightly more into the toilet paper. So overall toilet experience goes low.
The space between the toilet paper and the sanitary bin was 0. You can't sit on the seat without your bum touching the bin which is DISGUSTING and unhygienic.
The taps and basin were great, no splashes and full bodied running water. Touch less soap foam dispenser. Hand dryer was powerful and good.
Thanks!
B.
Love our airport. Good food outlets, very clean public toilets/showers. Plenty of seating. Everything clean and tidy. Easy to find way around.
A.
Excellent airport facility and operation. Drop off and pick up smooth, plenty of parking, taxis, shuttle or bus services. Terminal is efficient and staff are polite, helpful and friendly. Restrooms are modern and clean. Choice of food and drinks are great to suit all budgets. All in all an airport one would be pleased to travel to and from.
R.
Nice open area, with some good bars and great service from Peloton Bar!
s.
Nice airport with good sense of art. Transparent glass walls so you can see through. However, parking is a bit confusing. If you take the wrong lane, you might end up exiting the airport and have to enter the airport again.
M.
Quick fast and clean. Plenty of everything here. Food. Coffee and some Née Zealand shops
T.
International and domestic both airports are same. The signs are pretty clear and dont need to worry about getting to the right place. You won't feel lost as it is a small airport with really helpful and welcoming staffs.
Such a clean place with quick bite eateries.
Subway is there in ground floor opposite to luggage claim, you can order your meal for the wait time to claim your bag. No burger King or mc Donald's. Few shops (clothing, book, cosmetics, gift etc) to look around before your boarding but not big as Auckland Airport.
J.
I'm slightly prejudiced as it my main airport for Regional and International flights. It's small but with regular services to Australia (pre-covid) and all of New Zealand it runs very efficiently. Short queues for security leaving and fairly quick through customs and border security. Close to city centre. Worst part is that it's poorly served with public transport as the airport bus stopped with Covid. That's local council, GWDC. Taxis expensive.
H.
Wellingtin international and domestic airport is the best little airport in the world and is the centre of Middle Earth. Not only is this modern and well laid out airport fit for purpose, but the unique sculptures and artworks are worth visiting, even if you are not flying anywhere. There are plenty of parking options available, depending on your budget. There are also numerous eating options and some other retail shops for that last minute shopping. All in all the airport and it's surroundings are definitely worth a visit.
M.
No issues with Wellington Airport as it was easy to navigate and find our way around when we came through.
The cafes are expensive as like most airports. The car parking is normally always busy and there are enormous numbers of taxis. Only use the quick parking (if it's possible) is a good idea if you are being picked up or dropped off by a private vehicle.
When it is busy, and it can be, get to the airport early because it will take some time to get through to your flight.
J.
Awesome city, friendly engaging people, and the greatest country on Planet Earth. What's not to love!
M.
It has huge installments of famous kiwi movies like Lord of The Rings made by Weta cave. But walk around and you can also find the dragon and more. It's really nice! Has the basic of airports, so food and souvenir stores.
G.
Loving it, just flew in from Brisbane and transiting here in Wellington. Really nice vibe in the domestic waiting area, plenty of great food and some good coffee help to pass the time.
J.
Good airport but there is no public transportation from the airport to the city. They make you walk uncovered to a suburb next to the airport and catch a public bus. Not idea when you have bags and it's raining! I don't understand why an international airport in a capital city has no airport bus
s.
Love the fact we didn't have to go from one end of the terminal to the other to catch a connecting domestic flight, more selection of food available today, which was great
L.
Wellington Airport is both international and domestic. A bus runs between the airport and the CBD station. Lord of the Rings characters have large dimensions above the terminal, Eagles & Smaug made in large dimensions. The guarantee payment was updated recently. Parking is also available. Some shops where you can buy gifts, souvenirs or have something to eat, dessert, coffee and drinks.
P.
Arrived here after midnight so almost everything was closed and had a small staff on duty.
Have the electronic passport control which speeds passage through immigration.
Its a small, single level airport building that is getting tired in appearance.
Has two baggage carousels.
Public car parking and Disabled car parking. Public and disabled toilets / rest rooms located inside. Is a wheel chair friendly facility.
B.
One of the most amazing airports I've ever been in and no it's not large but we had to just see it with the Lord of the Rings and The large Hobbit figurines.
F.
As a passenger with limited mobility, I was treated with lots of attention. Nothing was too much hassle. Thanks AirNZ ground crew for the great trip. Awesome 🕉🤩
J.
Beautiful city to fly into, Nice airport (new and old in areas) but pretty good overall. Parking looks a little hectic but looks like it’s just been upgraded / still under construction but can’t really comment as only hired a car (short walk) - also only a short drive to the city hub taking Evans Bay Parade - B e a uuuutiful :D
On a side note and maybe someone can answer but Wellington is the only City (that I have been to over my life) that when I descend into, I have the worst ear pressure!!! Like grown man crying pressure hahaha (neurofen/Earplanes (ear plugs) are now a must) have been on hundreds of flights and for some reason Wellington is one I need to prepare for :D
C.
Only flew domestic with no baggage so check-in was a breeze. Was at the airport on peak hours and even if there were lots of people around, finding a good spot to wait for my flight never became a problem. Waiting area also has good views of the apron and runway so if you enjoy watching planes come and go, it's a bonus.
And yeah it was my first time there so I tried to look for Gollum but can't find him.
J.
An amazing little airport. Plenty of space and good food choice while you're waiting. Short queues (generally, though it can be busy at peak times). Easy and inexpensive access to the city by public transport, and a Snapper (public transport card) top up kiosk in the arrivals area.
There are statues from the Hobbit scattered around (courtesy of Wellington icon Weta Workshop), something for the kids to do is to hunt them out (there isn't much else in the way of activities for children).
Quarantine are rigorous, with good reason, to protect NZ's unique wildlife, so make sure to declare or dispose (or you'll get a really big fine). Bags are x-rayed and the are sniffer dogs, so don't even think of trying to sneak something through
Landings can sometimes be white-knuckle due to Wellington's famous breezes, but on a fine day you'll get a lovely view of the northern South Island or the harbour on the approach. Look out for the control tower - it sits atop a nearby ridge, amongst houses!
C.
Well organized in our current pandemic situation. Helpful staff. Continues to cater for a stress free travel experience
L.
Pretty Good
Wellington International Airport (formerly known as Rongotai Airport) (IATA: WLG, ICAO: NZWN) is an international airport located in the suburb of Rongotai in Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. It lies 3 NM or 5.5 km south-east from the city centre. It is a hub for Air New Zealand and its subsidiaries. Wellington International Airport Limited, a joint venture between Infratil and the Wellington City Council, operates the airport.
Wellington is the third busiest airport in New Zealand (after Auckland and Christchurch) handling a total of 6,049,194 passengers in the year ending 31 March 2017. It is the second busiest airport in New Zealand for IFR movements (84,070 in 2013). Auckland is the busiest (105,403) with Christchurch third (68,764).
The airport, in addition to linking many New Zealand destinations with national and regional carriers, also has links to major cities in eastern Australia. It is the home of some smaller general aviation businesses, including the Wellington Aero Club which operates from the general aviation area on the western side of the runway.
The airport comprises a small 110-hectare (270-acre) site on the Rongotai isthmus, a stretch of low-lying land between Wellington proper and the Miramar Peninsula. It operates a single 2,081-metre (6,827 ft) runway with ILS in both directions. The airport handles turboprop, narrow-body and wide-body jet aircraft movements. The airport is bordered by residential and commercial areas to the east and west, and by Wellington Harbour and Cook Strait to the north and south respectively.
Wellington has a reputation for sometimes rough and turbulent landings, even in larger aircraft, due to the channelling effect of Cook Strait creating strong and gusty winds, especially in pre frontal north westerly conditions.
K.
Great food options and many places to lounge while waiting for your flight.
w.
Easy parking system. Plenty of seats inside to enable physical distancing. Everybody being safe with masks, etc.
A.
Welcome to Wellington, weather might not be the best but the pilots get you down (and up). Heaps of food courts, some nice clothes shopping. A giant dragon and eagle with Gandolf in his neck (look up in main lounge). Thanks to a pragmatic approach now got a smoking area (upstairs car park right hand side of outside lift).
F.
very proud of our WGTN airport. The size is just OK as it is not a real international airport. only few flights between WGTN to Australia. but it is very good size & very comfortable for domestic traveler. few food selection & enough shops for shopping. very clean & comfortable space for rest. FREE WiFi is another bonus point compare to AKL airport only provide 30 mins free WiFi.
J.
It's a great airport. Easy to find your way around and the homey national pride is apparent in the decor.
A.
Very fine how easy it is, I enjoy the customer experience. Everything is notably more expensive.
g.
Everything is easy to find at the airport food and drinks if you smoke it's outside the departure entrance on the opposite side
J.
Very nice airport. My kids enjoyed the 4 hours flight delay and they didn't get bored at all, plenty of seats, nice Cafés and takeaways, free wifi, very clean bathrooms and beautiful panoramic views around you. Much better than Auckland domestic Airport
M.
Not much in the way of food at just before 6pm tonight. Most places closed. Used to be much more, covi-19 perhaps? Clean, good seating and bathroom facilities.
k.
If the WETA cave isnt enough, a quick drive at the Wellington Airport will surely feed more of your LOTR hearts. Gollum and the dragon, smaug will greet you upon arrival. Kiwis are super friendly folks that they will allow you to take pictures with thier 'greeters'
M.
No licensed staff in domestic departure lounge for liquor sales.
Poor quality doughy cheese scones at kiwi kai (? Only one open anyway & same scones at coffee place)
C.
Wellington is always a little interesting to fly into with its tight approach, but the airport is fairly basic - not surprising given the relatively small amount of traffic. Has some interesting design elements and is likely to grow.
W.
Easy airport to move through with road access to departure level.
P.
Domestic terminal works well. Good food court with views across the runway. Quite a pleasant experience. International terminal a bit of a muddle but ok. Usual gripes about parking fees and making it to shelter in bad weather - but could say that about a lot of airports! :-)
M.
Amazing fantastic everyone in hospitality cafes / hotel were so helpful. Most of all was the unbelievable friendly services from Air New Zealand. Totally saw to everyone's needs and even if flights were canceled they assured us we were in good hands. Well done to everyone involved in our journey back to the South Island during inclement weather conditions.😀
H.
Easiest airport I have experienced after traveling over 20 counties. Efficient and coolest airport in my eyes.
M.
Love this airport. So cost. Goid food. But wifi not very good.
R.
Great airport just a bit confusing as to where the exit is when going for your first time
k.
Wow what amazing staff, friendly,helpful.
When my flight got cancelled they were there with tissues and a solution...thank you Wellington air port you are amazing..great experience 🤩
R.
Hassle free parking, staff were easy to talk to both on the floor and the main contact phone number.
R.
Nice Airport as per NZ
As not that big as other country airport
Good restaurants
Shopping places
Car parking
Car rentals and
Many more
I liked the way they have monuments from lord of the rings...
My experience was good with this Airport
T.
Very clean airport and friendly staff.
One thing that I would love seeing in the future at this airport is a observatory deck to watch the planes taking off and land for people like me who love aviation :)
D.
Great service and quality of area for me really made my time at wellington airport a true experience to remember.
N.
Easy to navigate and great airport but parking is expensive.
M.
Walked thru as an arrival. Found way to luggage collect all very prompt. Lots of people all masked up.
G.
great place good food
A.
Awesome airport. My daughter enjoyed the massive Eagles and Gandalf
N.
Love this place olways think I should be there more often
M.
While somewhat limited in scope, gets the job done. The large scale model's are quite impressive...
A.
Lovely helpful staff. Good choice of food stores. Very pleasant experience.
H.
Very nice coffee's and food but my daughter was disappointed there was no McDonalds.
She did really enjoy her bagel though. Nice clean building and friendly staff.
A.
It was a bit quiet being Monday so shops were limited
J.
Love being able to sit an watch planes come and go as you are waiting for a flight food is good also
D.
Great airport. Variety of types of parking, from expensive to less so. I was impressed because the car park is automated when you exit, just have to remember to pay your docket before you get back in the car. Seemed really easy access. Heaps of food shops and cool coffee places, and a Whitcouls book store. Always seems clean and tidy, often has interesting mini displays, has a fun Lord of the Rings theme with the Eagles and Gandalf in the ceiling space, well done Welly!

Cant beat wellywood ona good day and on a windy day ,flyin in or out.. holdon....😊
R.
Gotta love the WLG Airport experience, esp on a Friday aft (perhaps happy hour-perhaps between flights?) Groovy DJ music, fab coffee (rediscover your "Mojo", a Wellington icon!), good wine on tap, great food that caters to all tastes, and all under a canopy of Wonderful Weta Workshop genius! Small enough to feel intimate, and grand enough to feel appreciated, no matter your destination.
M.
This review is for the Domestic Terminal. And it's pretty much O.K. Nothing to write home about and my only gripe is that everything closes very early for a 'major' airport. I'm a big fan of a cheeky beer and a snack before I board my plane if I'm early for my flight yet 4/4 of my visits to this airport everything has been closed except the subway. It's not like I'm taking very late flights either, I'm talking 6pm - 7.30pm weekday departures. Not early, but not too late either. What's the point of having 5/6 bars if they all close at 6pm? Lol
M.
Really nice airport, modern/funky. Only fault would be good to have some more food options after going thru int'l check in but not a big deal, points for the Lords Of The Rings touches around the airport :-)
p.
Had a scare when it seemed like my 92 year old mother was going to miss her bus connection after arriving at wellington air port. I phoned the wellington air port from nelson and spoke to an amazing and incredibly helpful young man who went well above and beyond to find her and get her on the bus. I'm very grateful for his help.
Thanks to all the staff
Phil Townshend
D.
Had something to eat at the bagel place great food and wonderful coffee
P.
3 hour stop over. Need some more comfy seating
S.
Cool place to land but seems more like a provincial Airport. Not very good connection options into the city. Taxi or Super Shuttle. Public bus requires a 700m walk.
G.
One of the most welcoming and efficient airports I have traveled through. The kids love to say hello to the sleeping dragon downstairs and then run upstairs to check on the soaring eagles. Always feels like you are setting off on an adventure when you are sitting by the window, sipping a cold beer and watching the planes come and go. Parking prices and the hassle of getting across Wellington in peak traffic only main drawbacks. The new Hotel 🏨 adds some real class to the place.
K.
My favorite airport in Wellington! By a long way! Has a runway, planes, those weird short arse truck things that fang-it around on the tarmac, adequate parking - at reasonable rates for these unprecedented times - and there are a couple of MASSIVE as manu in the main terminal.
P.
Great Airport, however it is poorly served by public transport. If you want to catch a bus to the city passengers have to walk outside the airport to a city council bus stop. Easy enough for able bodied people, but pretty tough if you have trouble walking long distance or are elderly. Perhaps the airport should drop it's charges for public transport operators to better serve it's flying customers. Price gouging to the point of causing a service to cease doesn't seem like a good business model
P.
The LOTR airport. Still has it's themed displays. Needs a refresher. Maybe when international borders open again. Clean. Not too busy overall. Easy to get to our gate (28). Security was quick as bathrooms were clean.
R.
Great displays. Food options I found were a bit fancy for us, but we found stuff to eat. I liked the option of pre-booking long-term carparking. Staff were mostly helpful and better on the actual plane :)
J.
Very quiet and no problems finding a carpark today ! 😷👻
P.
Clean and tidy, friendly staff and wasn't at all busy
W.
Pretty good..some nice food places... plenty of shops..
A.
Terrible signage to Long Term Parking but lovely staff at Airport!
P.
Look no further for local expression of life in Aotearoa. Upstairs Ridges Hotel, Wellington Airport
S.
Wellington is the most beautiful city in the world.
J.
Has a Subway but no McDonald's. Not crowded though so swings and roundabouts. Best part for me was you can walk up the road and right under the runway to Lyall Bay. And there's a Bunnings there. About 15 mins walk.
K.
Nice looking airport. Well laid out. Easy to navigate. I was hoping to find Gollum but didn't see him. :(
C.
Welly is the best capital city airport... easy to get through, great facilities, helpful people work here... today was like clockwork!
G.
Great place, clean, efficient, the staff is friendly and helpful, its lovely, just entering there a couple of huges Eagles I loved, there is a special area for apps pick up, just follow the road.
W.
A bit of excitement today - evacuated from the airport, not sure why but ohwell this is Wellington lol
C.
Really good airport - decent cafes inside
C.
Best airport in the world, especially coming home to it!
J.
no public transport to the airport and parking costs more than your flights. i smell a sneaky money grab!!
N.
One of the best international airports. It’s small but an excellent airport.
S.
Clean tidy efficient and cold beer what more do you need
P.
Wellington was cold and wet at midnight after leaving the sunny QLD coast. BUT... what was overwhelmingly noticeable was the service and kindness of airport staff. Thank you NZ xxx
G.
Still looks like a bit of work in progress. It's a bit of a hike to and from the main terminal to some of the gates for older and disabled people but the staff across all of the airport roles are friendly and helpful.
J.
The treatment I received was absolutely fantastic. All staff could not do enough for me. Keep up the good work New Zealand.
O.
Good airportt, love the Koru Lounge and got a couple of free juices and other stuff. Stayed at the hotel next to it and loves how it connects right to it.
J.
Feb2021: covid L2.. Hit NZers outside of Akld.
Dropped a family member to domestic.
No enforcement on non mask wearers out in the public spaces..majority of the airport visitors chose not to wear masks. Nor was there any social distancing anywhere.. Especially around the gates and the seating BUT.... COMPULSORY on the flight. Go figure.
In saying this... People were respectful, calm and careful of others.
P.
Not from Wellington found
the signage for pick up and drop off very confusing
K.
Sweet as I got there and airport was easy to get around got uber out of there
V.
A beautiful place restaurants all over the airport. ❤⭐❤⭐❤⭐❤⭐❤⭐❤⭐
G.
Great memories with Wellington and cozy little airport 😍
L.
Great airport. Unique decorations from Lord of the Rings theme
R.
The absence of the airport flyer bus service is a real step backwards. You now have to walk for 9 mins to catch a local bus and there are no signs pointing the way. Fleecing passengers with a $4 'airport fee' with taxis and Uber is also unacceptable but at least your shareholders (not customers) will be happy though eh.
B.
Easy to get around the place. Bright and open
C.
Plenty of seating. Plenty of coffee. Not problems.
J.
Spacious. Clean and tidy. Good food outlets
C.
Always enjoy flying in and out of Wellington Airport.
O.
Self check in and dump your bags then you're off
L.
Good . New outbound security arrangement is good too ! Pity the food places “outside” didn’t warn you that most were closed “inside “.
R.
Great airport. Please just extend the runway so we don't have to keep on flying out to UK via Auckland
M.
Awesome staff not overly dramatic about covid 19 policies and procedures
b.
Nice friendly airport with helpful staff
N.
This is a nice small airport but it still has all the things a bigger airport has. Checking in and departures are well organised and there is always staff on hand willing to sort out any boarding issues you might have. Customs is always seamless and the staff are very friendly and helpful. There is plenty of parking although it can get full during the Christmas holiday period.
P.
Good spaces, views, food and a few shops. Signage to baggage pick up on arrival a bit confusing in domestic
m.
Top floor of the Intercon! Love it. Very classy hotel. Friendly, helpful staff, Central location and a delicious breakfast buffet. I was here on the night of the Kaikoura earthquake and I can't think of a better hotel to have been in during that time. 👍
J.
Very nice service thank you
F.
This airport is great for plane watching, as many major roads surround the airport. I find the split level entryway a little confusing, but it's ok as this airport is naturally condensed due to the small amount of land it's based on.
D.
Airports seem to always be working on improvements for the traveling public and are always a step behind. Wellington Airport is not to bad, appears to be lots of parking but it costs.
Short term stays in the terminal aren't to bad but there does not appear to be enough seating but what is there is not to bad.
Good veriaty of shops at hand.
A.
Clean well organised and good location. 15 minutes walk to nearest bus stop
D.
well designed airport easy arrival lounge and departure great views toward the tarmac and across to the bay and views to the cook strait and bay pick up and transport to the city via shuttles service. airport well worth a visit for aviation enthusiasts.plenty of eateries worth trying , airport a very relax atmosphere.
M.
Nice airport, undergoing some expansion and upgrades, plenty of food and drink on offer as well as a handy drop off zone if you need to do it in a hurry. Singapore Airlines as well as Qantas, Air New Zealand fly in and out of this airport.
D.
Great transition spot, lounge was well appointed with great service.
杨.

The airport comprises a small 110-hectare (270-acre)[6] site on the Rongotai isthmus, a stretch of low-lying land between Wellington proper and the Miramar Peninsula.
A.
Good airport. Nice dragon and Gandalf
P.
The airport is well designed and easy to navigate. Wellington needs to provide good public transport to and from.
S.
Very beautifully designed airport. Self checking in and book your own luggage. If you need any help you will find people around those checking booths. Very simple design so you will not feel lost and easy to find gate. If your flight is delayed you can just sit in the lounge grab a cup of coffee or drink.
R.
Wellington airport is great, everything is well signposted, great food and easy to get around. Oh and very clean.
B.

Low key. Quite, easy to get around. Clean.
K.
Excellent .mojo is an awesome cafe on site the Jetstar check in staff went above and beyond and a great selection of on site retail .only downside is the long walk to the gates through tgevinterbational section for domestic travellors if you have walking disabilities will be a problem
A.
I've always had a pleasing experience at Wellington Airport. A great layout from check-in to gate makes it really easy to get around. The small size of the airport also makes it really quick to get around. Security lines are never often too long and large windows overlooking the runway make it a great place to sit back, relax and enjoy watching planes.
D.
Landings here can be a bit spicy, but one of the nicest airports I've been to. Lots of wood and light give it a comfortable feel, food and shops are good, and operations are a breeze. Plus, the eagles!
A.
Very good service great signage able to find our way around very well
Lots of food and coffee shops to choose from
J.
Not much to do here when you plane gets canceled and you have to wait 4 hours for your nedt flight. Bathrooms could do with an upgrade a few doors were broken in the ladies bathroom
m.
It's international Airport with several shops and food outlets, has Weta workshop displays hanging from ceiling very impressive works of arts
J.
The airport is awesome! It's clean, organized and the people are friendly. A good place to chill while waiting for your next flight. 👍🏼👍🏼
G.
I must say it's odd how some gates seem to have security checkpoints and some don't. Parking and the roadways also seem a little confusing right now with the nearby construction. Easy airport to walk to though and walking all the way around the runway is quite fun. They've got public showers available too which is cool. Small overall place.
L.
Well laid out. However, it's a distance to some of the gates. The food outlets are expensive for what you get.
J.
I was amazed at the amazing airport design. So modern and elegant. Though I was flying in on a less elegant airline.... Jetstar. My legs were cramped from the tight plane but I was happy to be off. The search dogs looked Cute and it was a painless experience to get through custom.
T.
Obviously very quiet, but at least coffee shop, convenience/newsagents & duty free open
Airnz staff always on point
V.
Cute and clean airport. Well maintained. Good amenities. Only sad part is is not open 24h. It is closed in the morning for a few hours for maintenance.
A.
Clean and tidy with comfortable areas to wait.
L.
Good airport with friendly and helpful staff. The renovations to the regional flights area is a very good update from the last time I was here.
Plenty of room in the parents room for changing children and babies although a clock on the wall or flight board would be a nice addition.
t.
A lovely, simple yet energized place
J.
Everything you need and more. Friendly staff, very clean, love the clean toilets with the flash sanitary bins, excellent! Great to see all the hand sanitisers around the place, just place your hand under them it sprays the sanitiser onto your hand, excellent!!!
C.
Domestic was awesome! Have a nice ambience n very welcoming feel to it. Better than Auckland airport ... sadly.
A.
The best airport in New Zealand in my opinion. Location is good, although the downsize is that they are quite small.
H.
A relatively small Wellington international airport filled with shopping Cafe dining and souvenir shops. Great transportation including separate meeting spaces for Uber. Very clean and well managed. Also a good place to go for weekend-out, not just for ‘airport’ purpose. I’d say it’s the coolest international airport in the capital of the world :)
A.
Great airport. Friendly staff.
M.
Easy to get around, no fuss
T.
Air NZ staff at the kiosk were very helpful
And made checking in less stressful
P.
Ghastly weather to introduce our friends to the city. Planes late and therefore taxis were in the peak hour and very expensive so not a great experience
P.
Wellington airport is always busy, except under level 2 COVID 19.
Very quiet mid morning.
P.
Lots of choices for food! Strangely, the security checks are made at the departure gate, which was inconvenient for us, as we came from the Koru lounge when called, had to walk right across the terminal to our gate, only to find a queue for security. Guess who, with a few others was last on to the aircraft?
J.
The international airport is basically with the domestic airport. The winds into Wellington and the short runway mean that less international flights come into Wellington. The domestic is very busy because of Wellington being the capital city and politicians fly weekly in and out. Same goes for many government servants. It is very packed at the moment because it is being renovated and expanded. Plan time to get yourself around and check the layout particularly in the domestic part. Good shops and food outlets. Not too expensive compared to city.
D.
Average food selection (however nothing is open when you're on the last flight of the day), no power outlets anywhere, well nowhere obvious. Layout and staff seem friendly enough. Best thing is the cheap direct bus to/from the city ($18 return) so if you have a couple hours to kill, take the 20min trip to the city and back.
R.
Always good,staff very helpful
O.
I fly in and out of Wellington quite often and every time I come here it’s great, there’s an amazing variety in food you rarely get delays and it’s not that far from town.
M.
Small airport with a few shops and fewer airlines. Some of the airlines and customs check-in services are too slow and inefficient compared to their overseas counterparts. The long queues at 5 or 6 am can become so tedious when service is so slow especially for tired kids, disabled and old people booked for long hauls. And if you have less than 25 mins before boarding closes, there is a high risk that you may miss your flight altogether because of slow processing during busy periods!
The obvious solution is to have at least two queues through customs: one is a 'fast lane' where you fast-track travellers with less than 30 mins to board their planes, and a second for the rest, ie. those with ample boarding time to spare.
And there are insufficient seating and missed opportunities such as you won't find in other international airports that could help and actually boost tourism. Food is mediocre and pricey, eat there only if you have to!
Z.
Nice and clean small airport. Good choice of food and shops. Amazing Lord of the Rings decoration
m.
What a pleasure to be at Wellington airport. Lots food options. Clean !!! fresh and a great atmosphere compared to Auckland last week
Keep it up, it is awesome. Wishbone fabulous food and coffee. U.B.W great service, great wine. Clean and friendly .
a.
My life in Wellington, Nelson City, Queens town. N.Z Is the best decision In my life Here I am, my family & my project 'shanxi new zealand' in the best & safe place and under auspices of good people educated authorities and noble family. Yours efforts dear friends by this full details maps services are real great an ethical work. Thank you for this real efforts , thank you New Zealand family.
K.
Love the Middle Earth decor hanging from the ceiling.
My favourite are the aborted landings which can be common here.
R.
Wellington international airport is easy to navigate, no problems finding the rental car agents after getting out of the secure part of the terminal. SIM card booths were also easy to find and helpful for my stay in New Zealand. Security took a little longer than expected because I hit the wrong button on the automated system. The security kiosks could use an imporved user experience, as it did not let me go back to pick what I meant to press. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The bag checks were speedy and didn't take long either.
H.
Conveniently located international airport in Wellington. Due to covid 19 circumstances, many shops closed so be prepared.
A.
Great upgrade improvements, much better access & departure for flights & variety of food options
J.
Always a great experience at Wellington Airport

Wonderful experience to be at Wellington airport.
Well maintained and awesome ambiance. LOTR theme adds to the beauty of the airport. Limited but cheerful staff do their best to make you feel better during your stay at airport.
WiFi is available for free.
Both domestic and international terminals are located in same building. Comparatively small for the an international airport. You may need a great deal of patience to grab a cab to the city on a Monday morning.
b.
Comfortable airport, many great shops. Plenty of parking available. Easy to navigate
A.
Professional clean helpful friendly staff. The Ben n Jerry ice cream was just what I needed after a bumpy ride in!
D.
This airport is very confusing and we had so much trouble dropping off our rental car and getting checked in. The return car lot area has no instructions. So we just did what we figured and parked in a spot and dropped off the keys. Luckily everything went smoothly but there was no one around to ask questions either.
Once inside, even though we had a super early flight, they weren't completely staffed.
However, I must say the staff that was there was extremely helpful! We had a big problem with my wife's passport but we always arrive at least 2 hrs + to account for these type of problems. They spent almost a whole hour resolving our problem. So kudos to the staff for their patience.
M.
Couldn't find an open bar at 0530, but otherwise a nice visit. Check out the wicked giant Eagle, don't know where to get tickets for that flight though... Maybe need a magic ring?
c.
Very busy but everything you need. Coffee at three quarters, the best
G.
Looking good with new hotel and multi-storey car park.
j.
UBER - walk out of the airport to burger king (5 minute walk) the difference in price i have found can be up to or over 50% saving today was $14.23 just past burger king compared to $37.39 inside airport) i noticed it was cheaper when you walk past burger king (in burger king area was still $27)
S.
Small cute airport, I like the Lord of the rings features
I.
Easy friendly transit through Wellington to nelson
H.
The airport itself is fine. Using public transport to get to and away from the airport is a total pain in the neck.
A.
Great to visit Wellington Airport during Christmas period! Beautiful Christmas trees increasing awareness of the lack of funding from Pharmac.
S.
Didn't take to long to get my bag after landing from Christchurch, nothing really to say other then it's basically your only choice to fly to Wellington
S.
Good selection of food and drink outlets, plenty of seating and space.
P.
In my opinion Wellington has the most user-friendly airport in Australia and NZ. I know it is small but it is nicely decorated, small and easy to navigate and there are plenty of seats. There is free wifi and it is clean.
J.
Since the renovations the airport has become much better.
N.
Beautiful and clean airport. Spacious as well.
M.
Great terminal with good amenities. Unfortunately however on arrival we went through very narrow old corridors because a large section of the airport appears to be closed
L.
The staff took my packet of batteries and power bank without contacting me to go and grab the items off them for me to hold on to on the plane... very disappointed!!!.
L.
Lovely airport, friendly staff, they know how to make a traveller feel welcome, whether you're a tourist or coming home. Better experience going through customs and immigration than any other airport I've been to (well, other than Tonga where they had a guy singing on a guitar, but that's another story!)
Plus you get to meet Smaug and Gandalf and two of the eagles!
O.
The airport of the coolest little capital of the world couldn't be different! Wooden decoration just makes it more cozy. Very nice shops too, pity not all were open when I was there at 5am.
P.
Small, efficient with plentiful eating / shopping options (for it’s size). We ended up here on multiple occasions as we traveled around NZ. Really hard to find an issue. The Hobbit / LOTR deco quite stunning :)
A.
The most interesting airport I've ever been to, decorated with a dominant LOTR theme. Loved how it has been designed and it keeps the visitors intrigued and amazed. Didn't have any issues with the staff or services as well.
G.
About as exciting as an airport can be really.
Few shops to browse and foodstalls at airport prices.
Lounge seats particularly hard on the backside when your flights get delayed or fogged in.
H.
Great airport especially in the departure check-in area. Modern check-in terminals for Qantas and Air New Zealand, with numerous flights to Australia daily (Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra & Sydney) and now a new flight to Nadi, Fiji nonstop. It overlooks Cook Strait and just as the sun is rising that view is unbeatable! Offers an early morning flight to Sydney which is a common choice for our family which is great because we arrive at about 8:30am Sydney Local Time. Clean, modern facilities and many shops/cafes to eat at. Departure is 5 stars but arrival is only 4 as the biosecurity could be improved; the queue is always long due to a shortage of staff...
Edit: Lack of parking if you go between approximately 10am and 6pm. Took 20 minutes to find a park. Luckily, a new parking building is being built for this steadily growing international airport.
J.
Wet, cold, and nice to head North from. On a nice day Wellington is one of our most beautiful cities but not today
L.
I enjoyed the wearable art display. Seeing the huge Falcons hanging from the ceiling. But loved the dragon❤. Nice friendly customer service. It was a beautiful day.
A.
Wellington airport isn't big but have what we need to travel from one place to another place. Impressed with the choices of restaurants opened that early (5.45 am) in the morning and ready to serve.
P.
For starters it's the only airport in town. The main airlines are Air NZ, Jetstar and Sounds.
Access is tricky and not often cheap. There is a public transport option, in the form of buses to town and you can walk, but it's a long way.
International flights are to the east coast of Australia, national flights are to Auckland in the north, Invercargill in the south and most airports in between.
Entry on the top floor, exit at the ground floor. The domestic and regional end of the terminal, despite being newly expanded, is often jampacked. The international end is usually much quieter and a better place to find a seat.
The dragons and giant eagles are cool.
J.
Best little airport around!
C.
VERY good Airport!! However the big baby hanging from the ceiling was extremely startling ;) the Donut King would not let me buy their produce even though the products were still there in the stand because it had been shut for 5 minutes. Very disappointing, as the only reason I ever choose to fly through this airport is because of the doughnut shop.
A.
The best airport experience every single time. Staff are really kind and helpful.
F.
Awesome shop with very helpful and friendly owner and staff..always call in on my Wellington trips from Canterbury
L.
Best than Auckland airport safe fun and home my sister home of New Zealand because home in comfort and also Wellington is splendid well done police officers enforcements and police customs were best than Auckland airport that best of the greatest of all time favorite
p.
Good airport, nice size (small but has everything you need). Domestic and international departs from same building. Modern and clean inside - toilets immaculate. A few souvenir shops (not too expensive), icebreaker merino, bookstore (both expensive) and plenty of range for food and coffee. No oneworld lounge sadly. Never much of a queue for check in. Parking is expensive, but up to ten minutes free for dropoffs. Downstairs is arrivals, upstairs departures. Public bus to airport is #91 (airport express) but it may be cheaper for you to just get a day ticket ($9.50) for travel to cbd and the hutt valley. Takeoff is usually beautiful. Lookout for the model eagles from Lord of the Rings suspended from the departures hall roof!! Undergoing expansion as we speak.
J.
X-mas traffic was crazy, but we got a great spot on the upstairs viewing platform while waiting. Staff were positive and very helpful, definitely recommend when travelling around the globe.
M.
Getting into the airport via car from the south early in the morning is easy. Leaving the drop off and heading south is where one takes a risk with their life. The safety mirror on the golf course side of the road is always covered in dew. As this mirror is integral, to seeing if cars are coming from the north, dew on it presents a huge safety concern.
The renovated and extended interior of the airport is warm, light and open with lots of glass to view the action on the tarmac. I'm not so keen on the smell of donuts that permeates the place....
Weta have done a fabulous job with the dragon & the two eagles.
S.
This place was very safe and to all from Steven
B.
Nice building standard facilities,
found coffee good enough food and shops.
Á.
Nice and Spacious airport with shops and restaurants. Generally good wifi service, many power sockets or bookstores are available for people to hang around to wait for their next flight
S.
Wellington airport is fun and vibrant, there are loads of good eateries there and the Blue Lady serves the best chai lattes in the country 😊
M.
Love the design and the cafés there. After all these years it still looks fantastic.
D.
Airport was great and staff friendly and understanding even if all you want to do is go to sleep when arriving at midnight. Even helped me get out through a different path due to my MTB bag not fitting out the normal door
b.
Nice and quiet , air nz staff went extra mile to help temporary disabled passenger
R.
Very good.A well run efficient terminal.Koru lounge is excellent.
L.
Very impressed with our trip through Wellington airport.
We arrived at a ticketed entry confused as to whether we took a wrong turn ( in Sydney, you enter ticketed entry only to park your car). Buzzing the attendant we got a pleasant lady who was calm and gave us the instructions to return our rental car. In W.I.Airport you take your ticket to the car rental car park and insert the ticket to gain entry.
Navigating through check in seemed no fuss and easy.
The shop assistant at Tenery was helpful in guiding us that eat and drink was right where we were. In W.I.Airport you want to stay as long as you can before going through security. Last minute shopping. Something to eat or drink.
Getting to security was calm. You get a relaxed feel. It's small. Think a small Hawaiian airport where you board for Inter island flights.
The other side of security, gate lounges impressive. Really comfortable leather lozenge lounges. Relax. Snooze. Shop at Duty Free. There is truly not much else on this side and that's ok. It's a final relaxing stop before getting on the plane.
Duty Free. Little news/ convenience store and a cafe/bar. Plus the old vending machine.
Truly a calming experience. If you are leaving Wellington at the end of a great holiday this is the final happy ending to it before you go home.
D.
Nothing much past passport control but OK in the normal airport lounge area.
L.
Very easy for parking, great selection of food stalls, an very easy to find yr gates for departure
R.
Nice airport, easy to navigate. Not easy to find a staff member when you're almost late for a flight and need to skip the queue at customs...
C.
When I travel to and from Wellington, this place is very good, but when your dropping off and picking up people its a nightmare to try and get out of as the road bottlenecks towards the pay-station. I hope this dysfunctional road layout by the drop off/pick up zone is only temporary until the construction work is completed.
D.
New security process is much better
R.
Wonderful. I love this airport especially the huge lord of the rings birds hanging from the roof and view out to runway.
A.
Well laid out airport let down by the lack of decent dining options and average WiFi. Mojo have repeatedly let us down(they closed early on a whim). Another good dining option would be ideal.
G.
Beautiful, unique little airport. Massive eagle sculptures suspended above make for an interesting experience. A variety of food options and interactive kiosks everywhere.
A.
Congratulations to driver Gregory on the flyer yesterday afternoon. He was extremely helpful to all passengers. He went that extra mile for all of them ensuring they knew where to find various landmarks. He was lovely to a disabled lad and his mum. Great service Hregory.
K.
Wellington airport located at stewart duff drive. International and domestic terminals are under the same building so don't get confused! Drop off is on level 1 and pick up is on ground floor and taxi and bus is also on ground floor. Plenty of spaces for car parks and new car park building is under construction. Thank you for reading
M.
Obviously more automated services is good, but in this case I miss having the lovely staff
R.
The sushi at wellington Airport is amazing and the parents room is great all airports should have one! X
J.
Wonderful service from the Subway downstairs. Very busy but well staffed and quick service. All smiles from the team. Delicious food, great value.
s.
Small cozy airport. Needs some more direct international flights to and from malaysia, china and hongkong. Always had good experience especially now with increased parking capacity.
L.
There was a beautiful band playing and it even made me happy my flight got delayed. Kudos to the band and the person that hired them. This is now my favorite airport, ever.
P.
Great place for watching the traffic
A.
Very few masks being worn in communal areas until actually boarding a plane. Was a bit surprised by people being so casual
D.
Wellington airport is always a nice place to pass through. It’s looking sharp with its upgrades and there’s a reasonable selection of stores.
M.
Clean and small. That's what you need really. People complaining about not enough shopping, you can go to a shopping centre
J.
Disappointed by the food available. As an airport there should be far more meal options. Too many hipster snacks.
M.
Coffee places close too early
J.
Slow through xray lines have to remember to give yourself plenty of time to get to gates
O.
I fly to Wellington for work...Airport, can be easy to navigate through...sort of.
J.
Great airport, really easy to navigate, only downside is that food choice is limited in international departures so fill up beforebypu head through security!
L.
Rydges Airport Hotel a great place to stay. Excellent service!
P.
This is a lovely little airport! I really like how they promote NZ high-street brands as opposed to usual DFS fare. Tip: avoid the coffee vendor in the food court and head straight for Mojo.
J.
A busy airport for the capital, well designed, clean and efficient. If you are LOTR fans, this airport is a must visit, this is the "Middle of Middle Earth". Especially the food court, where you can see all the famous LOTR characters in action, such as Gandalf soaring the roof on a giant eagle and Gollum going for the ring.
J.
Great shops at Wgtn airport especially The axe, I always grab something to eat and great coffee
It's always a lovely and clean airport to just visit.
M.
The Airport is really small and the WiFi is not the best so I would recommend to be at the airport not too early because you can only go through the security 45 minutes before Boarding.
A.
Lovely airport and setup. Best Ugly Bagels make nice coffee.
C.
Its outright fun. Walking around and seeing the Hobbit, Lord Of The Rings models hanging from the roof and in the checkin gates was very enjoyable. Helpful staff too.
H.
Easy going through the airport, information desk available to assist. Generally the airport staff are very friendly.
S.
I took my daughter to Wellington to return to Melbourne. I have to say the food options are now excellent. TJ KATSU, Sushi was delicious and other options looked beautiful too.
D.
Just pick up family fun waiting for people to arrive for one hour people coming and going as long as you don't want spend on food drinks every thing is good
P.
Wide range of facilities, food and drink, shopping and covered and uncovered parking at the airport. Airport bus can take you into town
L.
Apart from the pricey parking which is to be expected at an airport it's an amazing experience. Customer service second to none
R.
Neat and clean 👌
L.
Great easy access.
Off the plane and picked up luggage and in the cab within 15 minutes
E.
Small but everything you need and a bit quirky - like Wellington city itself
s.
Excellent facilities , very clean quit and calm airport , lots of food options , plenty of sitting and waiting area , very help full staff .
you can feel very cozy in side the air port.
R.
It still doesn't do it for me especially when the regional Koru club is closed on weekends!!
D.
"I'm leaving on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again"... Would definitely fly from Wellington again. 5 stars.
E.
👍
S.
Thanks to Kavitha and Team of Air New Zealand for their concerted efforts in engineering a reroute plan for my Singapore flight via Canberra. Have a blessed 2018 new year Guys; you added delight to my birthday holiday in New Zealand. Thank you all. :-)

If only the runway was longer 🤔
K.
Nice size and vibe 😉
G.
Boring 🙄, but coffee was great...
A.
Great airport: awesome views, good food options, free wifi, and power outlets. Service staff are friendly, and moving through security is quick and painless.
C.
Great wee airport, and with the current renovations it's only getting better. Parking is currently a nightmare, especially if you haven't been here before, but there are plans to improve this over the next year or two.
G.
Wellington airport has Gollum from lotr towering over you in the eating area. It's a bit grotesque, but it's interesting and adds a lot of character. I fly to and from Wellington airport and I find it reasonably nice. I would prefer it if there were a few more places with comfortable seating.
A.
In and Out. Not to big a airport, but big enough to get what you need to travel.
B.
Like Wellington itself the airport is small, Wellingtonians call this compact. Domestic and international are under the same roof- no need to race from terminal to terminal here-. Vibrant, full of 3D art and a multitude of coffee options.
j.
The free WiFi is great. Compared to Auckland, it is a real bonus. Well done to the creative capital for making it easy to work a d stay in touch.
J.
Transport to and from the airport is very difficult
P.
Bit of construction means you need to make sure you give yourself a little extra time to get through security and to your gate.
R.
Great service and excellent decor. The staff are very relaxed but efficient. I never mind coming through here but you can beat the size and simplicity of the layout. Plenty of food and shopping choices.
A.
If it's your first time don't forget to check out the huge statue of Gandalf riding the giant eagle in the terminal. You can't miss it!
T.
Very clean and food outlets were really great
B.
Easy to get around. Great lay out. One of my favorite airport in the country. Always a pleasure
L.
Lovely clean airport with good food options
H.
Friendly, lovely , engaging staff. Security ok - never a great experience anywhere. Weta "art" homage - awful. Very scary and unnecessary. Thank you for your time.
A.
There are several planes that live here.
A.
Good. I work there
D.
Always pleasant enough inside, sometimes not outside, though.
D.
Pretty good airport, fairly easy to navigate for domestic flights, clear signage, drop off + pick up point easy to access, some shops and fairly easy to understand layout
S.
Good airport, comfier seating and less crowded than Auckland Airport
F.
It was very nice and very clean
Well organised and very friendly staff
Beautiful scenery and great atmosphere
A.
The fun hobbit-themed stores and modern seating areas are nice in this airport. Plenty of art to view while you wait.
I.
Lots to see and eat and drink
A.
Changes seem to be positive, take account of the koru lounge to your flight gate.
A.
Clean and tidy. Its a bit confusing with domestic travel running through the international terminal so security is just before boarding again
R.
First time there and was so easy to get to where I wanted to go, well signed!
A.
Small but world class terminal and only a short distance to Wellington City. By far the best airport in New Zealand (sorry Auckland).
J.
smooth experience, good new security system, delicious food
J.
Love Welly airport. Good coffee, awesome takes on Middle of Middle-earth. Renovations in every direction are going to make this airport even better.
D.
It was pretty good considering school holidays and bad weather.
G.
Great little airport need to extend the runway to acomadate bigger aircraft and increase the number of international flights though, like the new air traffic control tower.
A.
Great airport!
T.
Increasingly busy and possibly too busy/understaffed for what it has become. Still better than most. I hope theyupgrade the terminal before the runway.
J.
Easy airport to navigate around. Security quick and easy to pass through
L.
Great choice of food, very clean ad tidy
M.
Disappointed with meal. Some food overcooked. Service not very good.
M.
Can get all coffie food if need to wait when arrive
Easy
P.
Lovely afternoon sunshine, good eats and great service from air nz.
S.
Standard airport, everything expensive
S.
Always a great place to fly in and out of. Compact and easy to move around.
K.
Nice place to wait for flight. Lots of snack and shopping choices.
I.
Nice airport. Very basic but large enough to not get bored.
S.
Nice airport but also fantastic! shops :)
P.
Currently it's very different due to Covid. But it's a pleasant facility.
m.
Opens at 5 am, Rydges lift is locked until 5 am, bit weird.
E.
Plenty of parking this morning, helpful Air NZ staff and not too crowded.
R.
Great Staff and facilities and accessible rooms.
W.
Well Signed and facilitys inthe departure area.
Annoucements needed to be clearer.Over alla good experience
T.
Small but very sympa airport. Beautiful view to the harbour. And good povs for plane spotter 😉
R.
Cool airport with large LOTR statues hanging from the sealings. Modern airport with enough facilities for an enjoyable visit. Free wifi available.
L.
Very quiet and easy to get through to the plane and great service at the bar!
P.
Clean tidy airport and always helpful staff around should you need help with anything.
D.
It was pleasant and uncrowded. The global pandemic may explain the lack of crowding.
P.
Not busy traffic wise. People coming and going on flights. No issues.
J.
Good. Good eateries for a quick bite. No delays in services.
E.
Great atmosphere
D.
Nice airport. Good food options but airport prices of course.
A.
