Reviews of Pokohino Beach
U. E.
Beautiful little beach. Amazing scenery. There is a small cove, which I thought was pretty cool. However, the drive was rough. Had to drive 7km on a gravel road. Make sure you have good set of tires and a vehicle that is suitable for gravel roads. We walked down a path through the forest. Hike up was challenging but manageable for most people. Make sure you wear shoes though. The path is uneven and had lots of massive roots and fallen trees.
To get there, we took the Pokohino Rd, not the Norman Access Rd suggested by Google. You will find signage on the side of the Onemana Rd. Take that road all the way to the car park.

Gorgeous secluded beach, with high waves that are perfect for jumping. A 15-20 minute walk on a well worn path to get down to the beach.
Long stone gravel road for 3.4kms to get to the beaches car park.

Hidden gem absolutely worth the hike down & back up again. Careful if you’re not in a 4WD as gravel road access would be difficult if your car isn’t suitable for those types of roads.

This place got busier over the past year due to social media. It’s a quite a small beach with some shades near the rocks! Can be dangerous to swim and don’t enter the cave if the water is super rough (which happened during my visit and there was a rescue mission) ! Be cautious and best to come when waves are calm !
The road to the car park is all rocks 🪨 15-20min hike from car park , fairly easy to walk. Lots of people hike in sandals but recommend shoes.

Beauty ful little Beach. Clear water and a neat little cave by the entrance.
Walk in and out is a little tough going if you have knee/hip problems. Take a good pair of shoes or your sturdieat jandals

Amazing beach hidden away from busy Auckland City.
Best part of the beach is the cave leading to a secret area of the beach.

very nice beach worth the mission to get to

Nice beach. I think it is best enjoyable when the sea is calm. 20/25 minutes walking from the car park. Medium effort walk. Don't expect an easy walk. A fallen tree almost arriving to the beach require some yoga-stretching position to pass under (or over) it. We enjoyed the afternoon.

Fantastic secluded beach a short drive from Whangamata. Road in is a bit rough and the walk down a little challenging but all well worth it when you get down to the beach!

Cool spot to come for couple of hours

Beautiful spot but the drive is a bit rough. Best of taking a ute, suv or take your time. If you got low profile tires or a low car don't go.

Probably one of the best beaches I have ever been to. The walk in is 15-20 minutes with some quite steep sections and a few obstacles but it is definitely worth the effort. The beach has beautiful sand and an amazing outlook. With a small sandbar offshore there are some small surging waves most of the time.

Stunning beach! Really impressive drive to the car park followed by a steep 20min walk to the beach. Beautiful piece of the coast!

Most beautiful hidden beach. Not a soul in site. Not sure if it will still be accessable as they were busy putting up a gate.

Just stunning
Well worth the climb down and back up

Neat little beach with nice walk in from car park only room for about 20 cars so get in early

Love it, well worth the hike.

We love the ruggedness of the walk to the beach and the beauty of it all. It is paradise

Amazing. But if you go please try not to vandalize anything

Nice beach. Note that the road is Pokohino Road and not Normans Access Road as suggested by google maps. The gravel road is pretty difficult and the track down to the beach is steep and currently blocked by some fallen trees so requires some crawling or climbing.

Absolutely stunning beach. The road to get there is very rocky and dusty so be prepared for that! Can be driven with a regular car but wouldn't risk it if the car is too low. Can be quite busy in summer but so worth the trip.

There's a 20-min downhill trek before reaching the beach. Albeait easy, I recommend wearing walking shoes.
The beach is really pretty, well worth the trip.
There's a surprise cave that you can swim and explore as well.

Fabulous and very private beach at the end of a 20 minute trek through the forest. (Good pathway though). Safe swimming and a cave that goes through to another small cove.
W. A.
I really enjoyed walking to that beach. You might need a slightly average fitness to walk the track but well worth it.

A beautiful beach to go to but you have to drive along a forestry road to get to the car park then do a bush walk down to the beach

Beautiful little secret cove. Water was a bit rough for fishing and the walk there was blocked by a fallen tree.
