Great choice of food, drinks and overall great area to visit. Town Basin is the place to experience in Whangarei city centre.

Magic spot on a sunny evening. Relaxed atmosphere, with lots of places to grab a drink, something to eat, or sit enjoy the views of the boats, harbour, hills and of course the new art gallery. Stroll onto toe children playground and Hatea Loop. Lots of parking, mobility parks and public toilets. Even a gass BBQ by the play ground.

Beautiful, relaxing space, great cafés and shops and the amazing Hundertwasser Centre.

I conversed with a group of people walking their dogs. The interesting part was not only the breed of the dogs but that they were training the dogs to accept the people like myself who showed interest in them. They also were taught to accept the other dogs in the group. These people have freely given their time to ensure the future and safety of the dogs. It is amazing what you come across in this Down Town Area. Pete.

Choices of restaurants within plus a park just beside for your young ones to enjoy and have fun!

One of my favorite places in the world. The basin has a great playground for children to enjoy. There is a fantastic art shop called Burning Issues. The Hundterwasser building is nearly ready. The cafe is open now. What an amazing building. Love the walk around the basin especially when we take the dogs. I haven't mentioned the variety of cafes and restaurants and the The Fudge shop where you can get yummy ice creams etc.

Well worth going to see, awesome shops, ice creams etc. You can view glass blowing being done plus a really good park at one end of it.

Well worth a look. Parking can be challenging at peak times. Great mix of retail, cafés, restaurants, art galleries etc. A 'round the basin' shared path starts here, for walkers, runners, bikers, pet walkers etc. Very family friendly. Kids play zone near by.

A truly lovely spot. Though busy due to its popularity. The newly opened "huntawaesser" museum a sight to behold. Great to visit. This part of the town is a lot more upmarket than any other part of Whangarei.

Love it! It's interesting, bright & busy. Great places to eat while admiring the boats in the marina. The new Hundertwasser building is absolutely stunning, & a real drawcard to the basin. Whangarei has reason to be proud of it - its spectacular!

Always a pleasant place to visit. Plenty of retail choices, any amount of food or coffee..... with milllions of dollars worth of yacht views. If you want somewhere a bit classy to visit while in Whangarei, this is the spot

Loved the new building, cannot wait for it to be opened. Listened to an eldery gentleman playing the guitar and singing, beautiful voice and music. His name is Mr T.

The town basin was a pleasure to walk around tonight Everyone was friendly Lots of people on scooters enjoying the ride. People eating at the restaurants and a few gatherings of people on balconies enjoying each others company

Lovely place on a sunny day. Hundertwasser Art Centre and its new restaurant Aqua very impressive. All that's missing now is the Oruku Landing hotel & conference center...

Wonderful place, many good restaurants and cafes. Good place to catch up. Lovely playground. Relaxed atmosphere.

It has a beautiful view of the hatea River. It has some nice restaurants and shops, it also has a wonder playground.

So Great to see families enjoying again now the STUPIDITY of Council taping it off with Danger tape is gone.Is it a Virus OR bacterial.? Children more likely to die from an Experimental Jab than falling off playground equipment !!!

Without the bar / restaurant there would be a very quiet place.bar has great food and drink options.

Fantastic playground, although crazy busy because of school holidays. Delicious icecream from the fudge shop, definitely going again. The downside is the the amount of building going on and the ridiculous cost of very limited parking.

Dined at Serendipity ..has been there since the 90s always good food and great value.

What an adorable little place! Would be cool if all of the cbd got a makeover to look like the town basin! Cool eateries, awesome market on the weekends, neat playground and lots of look at!

The touristy part of town. Enough activities to entertain most travelers. Steep price tag at eateries.

A wonderful place to visit, lots of choice for restaurants and cafes, I really hope you get the great Hotel across the harbour, your waterfront is just fab, leaves our Tauranga waterfront for dead!

One of the highlights of my life was the time I spent living on my dad's boat in this marina. Whangarei is a beautiful, idyllic town unlike anything I've encountered or likely exists in the States. There are many eateries nearby and an ice cream shop across the bridge. I can't say enough good things about this place and my time spent there.

Great family spot. Paid parking on both days of the weekend is a bit of a rip and beware they definitely police it right up to the last. Plenty of shade and room for lots of kids though, but not much in the way of fish & chips or convenience food so bring your food and drinks with you.

Had our burgers by the play ground at the undercover bbq table. But had to use three phone lights to light up our table. Otherwise a pleasant winter evening with the whanu and four grandsons.

Very nice setting accompanied, with a variety of cafes, restaurants and gift stores. There is a children's playground nearby and a grassy area to just sit, lie down or have a picnic. Must visit the clock museum.

Nice place. Flat paths and grass for wheelchairs and pushchair and bikes. Even a wheelchair swing. But it would be better if it wasn't locked up and the able bodied banned. Let them share the fun too. Make a everyone equal.

A dynamic and delightful part of town designed for people. The Hundertwasser Art Centre will be a great addition.

Beautiful spot, good facilities (especially Clapham clocks) and a great start to the Loop walk. The building of the Hunderwasser museum is well underway but the disruption is minimal and well managed it seems. Great choices of eating venues and distractions. Only real negative is the new policy of charging for parking which is a little annoying, but does not seemed to have impacted its popularity much if at all.

Always pleasant plenty of seats,eateries, gift shops, ice crem shop, clothing /gift shop under one roof, clock shop, good playground, tables for families plus the loop!what more could you ask for. Even dogs are allowed to walk with their family.

I visited this spot during my Northland trip. It was a pretty awesome spot. There are lots of restaurants offering different cuisines nearby. It’s a good spot to spend time around after the Claphams museum. Would definitely visit on my next trip to Northland again and would highly recommend! Cheers

Great place to grab a coffee and continue with the kids on a scooter or bikes down the track. Also a good playground to stop at on the way back.

Town basin is a great place to hang out with several eating places, sometimes music buskers, walkway and playground and shops and boats to look at. Wonderful ice creams .

Very pretty with nice restaurants. Beautiful new concrete walk around the marina with lots of interesting story boards about the history of the area.

We did a lovely bike ride into the town basin Whangarei. Had a coffee by the marina relaxed and watched activities happening along the waterfront, very enjoyable.

An enjoyable place to visit a bit tricky at night to find the entrance for parking. But interesting landscape its worth a walk around and have a good stroll around especially at night the place has good lighting.

I just love this little area with boats, musea and lots of flowers in spring. There are restaurants and as freedom camper there is a parking lot where you can park with a toilet that opens from 8:30 am to 8/9pm

Hired bikes and rode the loop here....great way to spend an hour, very enjoyable time. Then visited story time next door to bike hiring place & kids did great holiday activities for free. Coming up to Anzac Day they made Poppys & Medals which they really enjoyed. The ladies helped me purchase a game for the school holidays which they played with us first to show us before we brought it. Many hours of happy kids since playing it.... excellent customer service thanks Story Time Ladies🤗 Then an ice cream fron Fudge Farm to finsh off the day😋 Great Afternoon.

Convenient Marina for yachties, close to shops. Very congested and busy anchorage. Good repair services availlable. Enjoyable for visitors/tourist with lits of shopd/restaurants, ciffee shops, museum and art galeries.

Town basin is a good place to take ur family for a walk and feed the ducks and look at the great view and let ur kids play on the park...

Fabulous place. Only thing that would make it even better would be a gate around the playground, since it's so close to the roads.

This is the social heat of Whangarei. There are several good restaurants around the town basin, as well as interesting little shops selling Kiwiana and gifts, icecream and fudge, jewellery and clothing. The glass blower is well worth watching in the Burning Issues gallery. There is also Claphams Clock museum and giant sundial, the marina itself, Te Kakano (The Seed), a Hundertwasser type attraction, and a really good kids play area. The marina is also on the Hatea Loop walkway, a good walk through the sculptures to the bridge and back along the other side. The town cannot bridge is also the home of the summer craft market and various other attractions.

Probably the most exciting thing in Whangarei - I come from Auckland, so this marina is comparatively run down and old.

Great place to hang out with the family, so much to do with all the cafes, gift shops, playground and of course the Hatea Loop ☺.
