Nice, quiet and lovely beach with huge sand dunes, good for romantic couple
D.
Rugged west coast with hugh sand dunes. You'll need to cross a shallow stream to get to the beach and sand dunes. There's a few picnic tables onsite, toilet & shower and a place to camp or Park the RV overnight.
A.
We love it here. A wild west coast beach with attitude!
S.
Recommend the ride out if you are a motorcycle enthusiast. Nice country roads with good sweeping corners.
The beach is a great destination, rugged beauty sums it up.
I even got to corral some cattle that were on the road near the beach.
A.
A nice, quiet and a lovely place to spend with family. The beach is wild so I do not recommend for playing specially for kids. Toilets and tables available so if you want you can enjoy a little picnic time.
B.
Being the west coast of the North island, you are guaranteed an awesome sunset on a clear day or with a bit of cloud. All previous reviews I read before coming here were accurate. It has a public toilet in the parking area and two table tops with benches just across the car park. Great place for dogs too, but wasn't quite sure if we were allowed to drive onto the beach with our 4x4 even though it was clear others have done so. Enjoyed his beach very much. Signage of open and closing times posted somewhere nearby or at the entrance would be greatly appreciated

South Auckland's best kept secret! But no cellphone or internet. Access the beach through a shallow, clear fresh water stream, and appreciate the cliffs! Quite Martian. Black sand 'waterfalls', red sandstone layers, grey layers and white chalk layers, forming amphitheaters, dunes and rockfalls. Stunning. There's a grassy, sheltered freedom camping spot with toilets, shower and picnic tables. Care, the beach is rough and there are strong rips and currents. For kids there are still the streams, rockpools, lots of sand and plenty of flat ankle-deep water to play in as the waves spread out over the sand bars.

Very windy place, and cold. Clean toilets available as well as a shower room. There are also picnic tables. Nice to visit with kids for an afternoon stroll by the shore. Lucky we found a sealion sunbathing by the rocks that time.

Who can deny the beauty of a beatiful sunset at Hamilton's Gap
c.

Stunning west coast beach in south Auckland, a real hidden gem. Sadly coastal erosion is affecting the landscape but still amazing. Highly recommend for sunsets.
T.
They view was awesome. Did the sand dunes which was a workout, worth the drive
S.
Beautiful place. Better over the sunset.

Feels like home

Love it Love it Love it. Great beach. Amazing cliffs of sand, which change every time I go. Small car park. Toilets. Freedom camping allowed. Can walk for miles if the tide is out but be mindful of incoming tides because numerous headlands will be sea locked causing you to be stuck. Great spot to watch the sun go down.
F.
Nice quiet place when we visited 👍
G.
Really great west coast beach spot, even more so if you've got a 4x4. It's simply stunning how it turns from the sea, to a thin strip of black sand, and then jutting up sand dune cliffs. Perfect for a picnic. There's also a shower and some toilets near the parking area. The drive this far really isn't bad either.
S.
A realy lovely place. It blows a strong wind out there. But there are quit a few places between some plants and hills where you can stay for the night. There are some toilets and a free cold shower. The facilities gets cleaned every day.
The beach is a wonderful wide black sand beach. Swimming is a bit danger because of the heavy flow. But if you are careful and don´t swim to far outside, it should be no problem.
J.
Great place to watch the sun set. Surf casting, surfing
J.
Beautiful spot. Rad sand dune. Make sure to look for the patterns and variation in the erosion...
B.
There is ample space to park and camp.
S.
Beautiful and quiet place to have a picnic and relax. Sunsets from the top of the sand dunes make the climb worth it!
m.
I've never had a swim here but I do love going here with my family just for a nice lovely walk . Everytime we have gone hardly any people are there which is even better haha. Theres also a challenging soft sand mountain to walk or climb up . I have never done it lol but seeing people running down it so fast is pretty funny .
N.
People still drivi g cars there when theres a lot of people on the beach even at high tide
S.
It's a wild west beach, dangerous for swimming but surfers do use it when it's not too wild. Great for walking when tide is on the way out, with great cliff landscapes.
A.
Far less mungbeans than Karioitahi, as its further out, and the river crossing keeps the boy racers away. Much better for family picnics, and worth the extra effort to drive out.
V.
No crowd, sea waves were awesome. Just listen to the ocean and it also has a hill you can hike. Offers a great pictursque view!!
B.
Beautiful Location. Very private, stunning views with a huge sand dune you can climb. Kids loved it.
K.
Hamilton's Gap is a surf spot and a great wild beach to walk your dog or just walk yourself. There are toilets and a camping spot. Well known to the local people.

To be honest, I don't want to review this place because it should remain a local secret but for those of you that have found this somewhere on the internet. It's paradise
p.

D.

(Translated) With dunes, streams, beaches and ample parking, it's a great place to have a relaxing BBQ with your family.
Climbing the dunes is pretty tough.
However, personally, Karioitahi Beach is easier to access from Auckland, and I have no reason to go to Hamilton's Gap, so I think I will choose Karioitahi Beach from the next time.
This is a recommended place for those who want to go to a different place than usual.
(Original)
